"The Wedding Bells" is a new dramedy on Fox from David E. Kelley. The
premise of the show features three sisters whose last name is Bell, and
they have
taken over the family wedding planning business after their parents'
divorce.
Employed in various duties at “The Wedding Palace,” the sisters include Annie Bell
(KaDee Strickland) as the sensitive-but-strict sister; Jane (Teri Polo) as
the
sole married-but-practical sister; and Sammy (Sarah Jones) as the youngest
and
most flirtatious sister. Also working at the palace is a variety of
supporting
characters such as Russell (Benjamin King), Jane’s frumpy insecure
husband;
David (Michael Landes), a wedding photographer who wants to reunite with
Annie;
Ernesto, the worldly chef who tries to seduce Jane; and Ralph (Chris
Williams) as the wedding singer.
The pilot episode featured great actors like Sherri Shepherd, Nicholle
and
Heather Tom, and the amazing Delta Burke as mother of the bride. The show
was
full of drama, but it has such a comedic twist to it. In classic David E.
Kelley style, the comedy was done more in an educated satire style than
cheap
jokes and comic pratfalls.
I’d characterize it as comedic family
banter, yet
with the closeness of Gilmore Girls meets the wacky cases and work-related wildness
of
Boston Legal.
"The Wedding Bells" is a refreshing new show that could become one of
this
spring’s shows worth watching.
