Cane Ashby, born Ethan Atkinson, came to Genoa City from Australia and got a
job bartending at Indigo, but he really wanted to find his biological family.
He had been adopted by a woman named Violet Montgomery, but when she died, he
was raised by her brother, Langley Ashby, in Canberra, Australia. He met and
started a relationship with Amber, who suspected Cane was related to Jill Abbott
after doing some online research. Everyone accepted Cane as the real son
of Jill Foster Abbott and Phillip Chancellor II, but a DNA test proved he
wasn't. He had actually been switched with another child by Katherine
Chancellor shortly after his birth in 1975. The real Phillip Chancellor III
arrived, shocking the entire town with his tale. Phillip explained that he
was living a lie and didn't believe his family would accept the fact that he's
gay, so he faked his death and moved to Australia where he met Cane.
Phillip sent Cane to Genoa City to keep an eye on Phillip's family.
Cane eventually married Lily, a woman much younger than himself and daughter
of his ex-boss. Throughout their relationship, Cane has lied time and
again to his wife but she forgave him every time. It seems his lying days
are over and he is dedicated to his family. Cane and Lily have twins,
Charlie and Mattie. They used friend Mackenzie Browning as a surrogate.
Cane's father, Colin, was involved in the Australian mafia. He has a distant
mother, a deranged twin brother, Caleb Atkinson, and a much loved sister who'd
been killed as a result of the family's dangerous lifestyle. Mysterious
gifts and messages, seemingly from the late Samantha have haunted Cane, Lily,
and Cane's mother, Genevieve Atkinson. Upon catching and confronting the
culprit, Cane was told it had all been orchestrated by Genevieve.
Genevieve denies any involvement.
In spite of all the problems they've had, Cane and Lily are a favorite
couple. Cane is very romantic and loving. Perhaps because of his
less than perfect childhood, Cane is a devoted father.
