Guiding Light fans have been hopeful for the past few
months, since the previous headwriter and executive producer were
fired. They brought in actress/writer Ellen Wheeler to be the
new EP and promoted former associate headwriter David Kreizman to be
head writer. Kreizman has worked his way up from intern and
learned the ropes, plus respects the show's history. So far the
show has been a bit better, but there are still things that need to be
changed. Let me say that I am not a daily GL watcher. I have
mostly been an ABC soap fan and have watched Y&R, B&B and Days off and
on for years. I have only watched GL a little off and on for the
past two years.
The few times I've tuned in since Kreizman and Wheeler have taken
over, the show has seemed really boring. It doesn't seem to have
any "pizzazz" to it the way the other CBS soaps do. It's not
that the show is bad or predictable, I just don't care about what's
going on. It's not because I haven't watched the show much;
whenever I tune in to ATWT, it's been really exciting.
The show still focuses on fan favorites Danny and Michelle;
Michelle currently has amnesia. I always love amnesia
storylines, and the actress who plays Michelle is obviously having fun
being the "new" Michelle. Fans are antsy about her being
attracted to Tony, and I do have to say that seems forced. Just
another plot point to get in the way of Danny and Michelle being
happy. On the other hand, it really beats the mobster storylines
that have plagued the show in the past few years. Fans never
like it when their favorites are broken up, so that is not new.
The re-introduction of Dinah has been interesting and it has given
the Jeffrey/Cassie/Edmund story a new twist. The only problem I
have with it is that I like Edmund and Cassie together, but I don't
want Jeffrey with Cassie. I'm not one of those Jeffrey-haters,
but I really don't see any point in putting him together with Cassie
again.
The most objectionable change is how they've destroyed the
character of Phillip. Fans don't like seeing him act so evil and
taking Harley's child away. Now they are writing out the actor
and things have gotten really ugly with terrible rumors. Phillip
is more interesting when he's not goody-goody, but he really doesn't
have to be so bad. He has a long history on the show and is a
fan favorite, too. They should change their minds about how they
are writing him and about killing him off, before it's too late.
I am a big fan of Gus and Harley, but I think they have done a good
job with them. You can't have the couple constantly being happy
and in love. The story about how they have been kept apart
because of the Spauldings has been great. I love that Frank and
Buzz have been given more to do.
They also need to give more time to veteran actors like Beth,
Holly, and Blake, and OF COURSE Reva and Josh!! The producers
need to get it through their heads that younger is not always better.
The fans are not tired of these actors, they are just tired of bad
writing. I hope the show continues to improve over the coming
months! |
