"Be Careful What You Wish For"
By Kelly
Chapter 1

All she wanted was his love,
Until she got it.

Chapter 1: Goodbye, My love

She opened her eyes, and immediately wished she hadn’t. Her head was pounding from the drinking spree she went on the night before. Rolling over, she allowed the comfort of her sheets to embrace her as she fell back into a deep sleep.

When she awoke again she remembered why she had let seven years of sobriety melt away. The love of her life, Jasper Jax, had left her. She loved him with a passion and she thought goodbye would never be a word in their vocabulary. She had let a lot of things go in her life but she thought that he would always be permanent. When their eyes locked with each other everything seemed to melt away. All that mattered was each other.

Why had he left her? She loved him more than life itself. She told him everyday how much he meant to her. Why, all of a sudden, did he want her gone from his life? They had a baby girl together. Aurora meant everything to him. Why would he jeopardize his love for the newborn baby?

She knew something was up. But, she’d just have to change that. She knew she could do it. She just had to try. She would not let another man just slip through her fingers.

After playing with Aurora, she gave her to the nanny and went to get ready. First, she put on the tan summer dress that Jax loved so much. It had a red flower beading along the bottom left corner of it. Then, she tied her hair up into a knot at the back of her head. Her make- up was applied with special care and she finished off the look with a pair of black silhouettes. A black purse hung from her shoulder. Looking in the mirror, she knew that no man could refuse her. She left the house with pride.

She headed to his office knowing that it was his favourite place to be when something was wrong. Knocking once, she heard no answer and entered. Walking in was the biggest mistake that she’d ever made. What she saw in front of her made her knees buckle beneath her and the floor around her sway. The man she loved was kissing the woman she hated. Brenda Barrett was back in town.

At first all she could do was gape. She felt nothing and life didn’t matter at all. Realizing she had been standing there too long, she turned to leave but banged into the door. Both Jax and Brenda looked up.

“Skye…I…I,” Jax tried to explain.

“You what Jax? Huh? You left the baby and me for her? How could you?”

“Its not what you think. I never meant to hurt you.”

“Sure you didn’t Jax. You knew what this would do to me but you still insisted on leaving.”

“Skye, why are you here anyway? I thought that you were going to stay home to play with Aurora Belle today.”

“I’m here because I wanted… I wanted to… oh never mind. I’ll just leave. Sorry I interrupted your little love fest.”

Jax gets a look of pity on his face.

“Skye, please don’t leave like this. Let me explain. Brenda, can you please leave?”

“Sure. I‘ll talk to you later.”

Brenda’s voice made Skye flinch.

“You don’t need to explain Jax. You’ve loved Brenda your entire life. Why stop now, when you have a wife and baby? Brenda will always set your heart on fire and there’s nothing that I can do about it.”

“Skye, I…”

“Goodbye, Jax.”

As soon as she left the office, she fell to the floor in tears. She couldn’t believe that she had held it together for so long. Sinking to the floor, tears streaming down her face, she let her cheek touch the ground, as she lied there crying. So much was racing through her head. She couldn’t believe that Brenda was back. How could Jax leave her and why? What would happen to baby Aurora? Would she miss her daddy? How could she go home to the memories? She’d see the pictures of his baby blue eyes and wish she were in his warm, comforting arms.

Finally, she stood up, and headed to her car. Jax was waiting for her when she got there. Wiping tears from her eyes and face she slowly approached him. With each step, the same thought ran through her head. It was telling her to hold back the tears until she was safe at home. She tried really hard to do so, but when she got to him, everything came pouring out.

“God, Jax. How could you? I thought you loved me.”

“Skye, I do…I did love you. But,”

“Please do not explain Jax. To me, your words are nothing but lies. Just 6 months ago you promised to love me for the rest of your life.”

“You know that I’ve always loved Brenda. I’ve known her for so long.”

“Why are you telling this to me? Do you think it’s helping?”

“I never thought that I’d see her again. I thought she was gone forever. But she wasn’t and she cam back pledging her love to me. I’m so sorry for hurting you Skye.”

“Oh please. Wasn’t I good enough for you Jax? Or to you was I just the emotionally damaged witch, starved for love and affection, self-destructive streak a mile wide, with a garden variety-drinking problem. I did all I could to make you happy. I hate you for what you’ve done to me.”

“I loved you Skye. But you have to realize that people move on.”

“Is that all you have to say? My God Jax. You make it out like you’re the innocent party here. Well, you’re not Jax. All I ever wanted in the whole world was to be really loved. Now, you’ve taken that away from me.”

“I did love you Skye. I loved you so much. But, my heart is in another place. I’m so sorry.”

“I need to leave, now.”

“Skye, not yet.”

“Let me go Jax.”

“Goodbye, Skye.”

“Goodbye, Jax.”

As Skye got into her car and drove home, she realized that her life could go on. She no longer needed a man who could not love her.  She wouldn’t make the mistakes that had caused her so much pain in the past. After all, she had a baby to take care of, and she did not want to make the same mistakes with Aurora that her mother had made with her. She no longer needed a man’s love to keep her happy. All she needed was the love of her baby and her baby needed her love too. She would never let another man hurt her. That was her vow to herself.
