This is one of the best shows on TV right now. But don't let the hint
at "quality" and all of the great reviews fool you. This is a very
entertaining, fun, and engrossing show.
British actor Hugh Laurie, who hides his accent well on this show, stars as
Dr, Gregory House, a gruff, often rude, doctor at a hospital. Laurie has
starred in many TV shows and movies, most notably "Blackadder" and "Jeeves &
Wooster" (both hilarious), but he might be best known to American audiences for
his role as the father in the "Stuart Little" movies.
Dr. House doesn't really like people much, so he has no bedside manner and
would rather skip seeing patients all together. He walks with a cane, due
to some disease from the past. The important thing is, he is a genius at
solving medical puzzles. That is what makes this show different from past
medical shows such as "ER" or "Chicago Hope". It is more like a mystery
show because House and his band of interns try to solve the latest puzzle that
interests him (usually a case that he overhears other doctors talking about).
House's acerbic wit and the way he talks to people gives the show plenty of
humor, but the show is also a medical drama.
Some of the interns or other doctors are played by some famous names, such as
Omar Epps and Robert Sean Leonard. All of the acting and writing is
top-notch. You won't find clunky dialogue or plots that drag on this show.
If you only have time in your schedule for ONE show this year, this should be
the one you choose. It's on FOX, so hurry and catch it before they come to
their senses and cancel it for another reality show or some sitcom featuring
huge-breasted women. Maybe PBS or A&E will then pick it up.
