Sheridan and Marty are together in the bed in Beth’s guest room as she talks to herself about him being her son, then argues with herself that he isn’t because Luis says so. Outside the room, Edna and Precious, still sucking on their liquor bottles, commiserate about poor Sheridan and all the hurt Beth has caused her. Edna calls Beth at the Book Café and tells her she’s evil and she stinks. Beth correctly surmises she is drunk and is totally unconcerned about her mother’s opinion of her, actually agreeing with her but saying so what. She hangs up as Luis comes back and sits down to talk. He asks who was on the phone and she tells him it was Sheridan, and that she absolutely doesn’t want to see him or talk to him ever again. He is hurt, of course.

Sam and Martin talk at the police station about whether Martin wants to get back with Pilar now that Katherine is gone. Martin skips all around the subject, admitting Katherine won’t be back since Alistair helped her disappear, but seems to not be willing to say how he feels about Pilar. He does say she probably couldn’t forgive him, but Sam tells him not to underestimate her ability to forgive, and then talks about how he, himself, got back with his first love, Ivy, after Grace left him. Pilar listens to all of this from behind a pillar.

In the Bennett backyard, Chad tells Fox Whitney turned down his proposal because she really wants to live with him, even if they can only live as sister and brother. Fox tells him heís high if he thinks thatís what she meant.

Eve asks her daughter if thatís what she meant as Tabitha enjoys all the pathos. TC says she canít mean she wants to live with Chad, but Fox says of course itís not, that sheís having his child, and Chad tells her to tell them she wants to be with him.

Up in Jessica’s bedroom, Simone asks Kay if she said she had a vision like Charity and her mother used to have, but Kay isn’t sure. Simone tells her she’s tripping out, that Jessica is probably sneaking back into the house right now. Kay remembers Tabitha saying all Standish women have powers and wonders if it’s true, then sees Jess again, lying under a street lamp with her head bleeding and gasps. She says it can’t be true. Meanwhile, Jessica is lying in the street with a car coming straight at her, and she begs someone to help her, then screams for her mommy. In the car, an amorous couple are paying very little attention to the street ahead of them, but the woman looks up and sees Jessica and screams. The man tries to stop.

Chad, Fox, Eve, and TC continue to barrage Whitney with questions about why she won’t marry Fox, if that means she wants to live with Chad, and all the reasons that won’t work. She finally tells them she doesn’t want to live with or marry anyone, that marriage is archaic and why should she get married when it will only lead to disaster. Julian says she’s seen to many marriages fall apart and she agrees, saying she’s seen too many “strong” marriages fail. Fox tries to tell her there’s won’t, he’ll always be there for her and the baby, but she tells him she and the baby will do fine on their own and he can’t predict what might happen in the future. Fox says he’ll always love her, but she still isn’t buying it. Eve and TC tell her maybe she doesn’t want to marry Fox, but in time she will want to marry someone, that it’s a wonderful experience, but she sarcastically tells them she can see pain and heartache is one of life’s wonderful experiences, and tells them all to look around, that they all look like poster children for not getting married.

Luis asks Beth if Sheridan really said she didn’t want to see or talk to him again, and Beth assures him she did, then goes on to says he doesn’t understand how Sheridan can’t understand why he’s angry with Katherine since she lured his father away and broke up his family. She lays it on thick, pointing out the fact that she totally agrees with him while Sheridan simply can’t see his side of things, or doesn’t want to. She figures she’s done a good job on him, but he throws her a curve ball when she says it must be hard on him to give up his relationship with Sheridan and he tells her he’s giving nothing up. He says he still loves her and she loves him, too, and they will work their problems out. He says he’s going for a walk, then thanks her for being a good friend and also for giving Sheridan a safe place to stay tonight. As he leaves, she repeats “a safe place” to herself, then says Sheridan will never leave her house alive.

The man driving the car finally manages to stop it after feeling a distinct thud as it hit something. He wonders if it was the girl, Jessica, but the woman isn’t sure, either, so they decide to get out and look. As they look behind and around the car, the woman can’t believe what’s happened.

Sam is still trying to get Martin to say whether he wants to try to get back with Pilar, and she also listens intently from behind the pillar. Martin tells him he doesn’t know how to answer that, then tells him how wonderful Pilar was, how much in love with her he was, and what a great life they had. Sam asks what the catch is, but Martin says there is none, that Pilar was wonderful and he loved her very much, hated to leave her, and thought he’d never get over the pain he felt. Sam asks why he left if it was so wonderful, and Martin says because he had to. Sam says he keeps saying that, and then asks if he fell in love with Katherine despite his wonderful marriage to Pilar, and Martin says no, he didn’t fall in love with Katherine until several years after they left, once he realized he’d never see Pilar again. He says Katherine leaving reminds him of the pain he felt when he left Pilar. Sam asks if Pilar knows this, that she thinks he left because he fell for Katherine, but me tells him she doesn’t believe him, that he made her life hell when he left but it would have been much worse if he had stayed. Sam asks how, and Martin tells him if he had stayed, Pilar, the most wonderful woman he’s ever known, would have been destroyed.

Whitney tells her parents she grew up thinking they were the perfect family, that her parent’s marriage was perfect, and Eve tells her they did, but she says no, it was built on lies that Eve told, especially the fact that she had a son out there somewhere. Eve tells her she thought he had died, and Julian backs her up, saying they both thought he had died at birth until very recently. Whitney says that once they thought Chad could be their son she should have told her so she wouldn’t have gone through the pain she has, but Eve reminds her they ran DNA tests that showed he wasn’t theirs, and Julian reminds them that Alistair had rigged the results. TC tells her that just because her mother ruined their marriage is no reason for Whitney to turn against marriage at some point, but she tells him he has no room to talk, he’s not innocent in the breakup of their marriage, either, that he always told her they loved each other so much that nothing could ever tear them apart, but the first time there was a test of that, he failed. Liz steps in, saying she can’t expect him to forgive her mother who had lied about her entire past, but Whitney asks why not, that the vows say “for better or worse”, but as soon as the worse came along, he folded like a tent. Touché, Daddy dearest.

The man and woman see that Jessica isn’t lying in the road and figure she somehow managed to get out of the way. The man sees a tire in the street, saying that must be what he hit. The woman wonders where she could have gone. Jessica is staggering down the street again, and when she comes to a bench she sinks down on it. Three men come around the corner, one being Randy, the Rapist, and one of them says she looks like she’s had a hard time. Randy realizes it’s Jessica and suggests they take her with them, clean her up, and all have a turn at her.

Martin tells Sam he wishes he could tell Pilar that he still cares, that a love like that doesnít go away, that he hated leaving the family but he had no choice. Sam reminds him he says heís been in love with Katherine for years, and he says yes, but he never forgot about Pilar, never stopped loving her, that Katherine knew that Pilar was his first love and understood it. Sam says she sounds like a wonderful woman, and Martin says she left so he could reunite with his family, that she felt Luis hated her and didnít want to cause problems between him and Sheridan. He says she only wanted to make her daughter happy, and she is a wonderful woman.

Sam wonders about him saying he still loves Pilar, and Martin says he still feels the same way he did when he first saw her, that his heart jumps up in his throat and that she meant everything to him. Sam says he can see she still does, then asks what was so horrible that he had to leave his family. Martin says he canít tell him, but Sam says if he would tell Pilar why he had to leave she would forgive him, that she knows he left to protect her and the kids and if he tells the truth heíll get his family back. Martin says the truth would only cause more harm, but Sam tells him the truth will set you free, but Martin reminds him that the cure is worse than the disease, and if her tells her the truth, she would hate him. She comes out from behind the pillar and asks him to tell her the truth and let her decide if the cure is worse than the disease.

Whitney tells everyone that there is no such thing as a happy marriage, giving the marital histories of everyone there and all those they know. TC and Eve split up, Sam and Grace, too, when she left with her first husband, Julian and Ivy, who never loved each other, and are now with Eve and Sam, respectively, that TC is with Liz, and she even mentions Julian’s marriage to Theresa and what happened to the Lopez-Fitzgerald’s. Liz tells her not to let a few marriages that failed keep her from finding happiness in her own marriage, but she says there are no happy marriages and challenges everyone there to give her one example of a couple in Harmony who is truly happily married, saying if they can she might change her mind about marriage.

Luis stops on the wharf and looks at Sheridan’s picture, telling her he loves her so much and they are going to get through this and move on with their lives. At Beth’s house, she walks in to find Edna and Precious upending bottles of booze, then says they need to go to AA. Edna says it wouldn’t work, that you have to want to be sober and they don’t. Beth says they really need to be in a program, and Edna asks if she’s going to join the Attempted Murderers Anonymous program. Beth says it won’t be Attempted, that she is going to kill Sheridan tonight.

Simone tells Kay to calm down, that she’s just scared for Jessica, not having visions. Kay says she’s terribly afraid for her, then asks where she is. Still sitting on the bench, Jessica seems not to notice the three men there with her. Randy asks what they think of his idea to take her to a motel and all have a turn, saying she’s so out of it she’d never know, but the other two don’t want any part of it, saying she’s bleeding and they should take her to a doctor instead. Randy says to forget that, they would think they had beaten her up and they leave. Jessica decides it’s time to start heading toward home again and stands up and starts staggering along.

Whitney has waited for an answer to her challenge, but there is none. She says as much, telling them they can’t think of even one happy marriage, but Liz says she caught them unawares and they can’t think right now. She says their thinking is fine, there is just no one they know who has a really happy marriage, and that being the case, she isn’t going to change her mind. Ivy apologizes to Fox, saying she feels partly responsible because of her failed marriage, but he tells her it’s not her fault and that he thinks there is something more to the story than just her being afraid of marriage. Eve tells Julian she has really ruined her daughter’s life, but he says they’ve all made mistakes and he’s afraid she will give up on life instead of fighting to make the best of things. Eve wonders when her secrets will stop causing problems for her family. Tabitha tells Endora that she wishes Whitney would have accepted Fox’s proposal because the marriage would have exploded eventually when Whitney’s secrets came out, that such secrets can’t be kept forever. Liz overhears her and asks what secrets Whitney is keeping. Tabitha tells her she wasn’t talking about Whitney, specifically, just that marriage does fall apart when secrets are kept, naming Ivy and Julian, TC and Eve…. Liz makes sure she wasn’t saying Whitney has a secret, and Tabby says of course not, how would she know if she did have any, then tells them she has to go change Endora and starts out. She runs into Chad, asking how he’s holding up. He says he’s ok, just surprised she’s talking to him, that everyone else is acting like he has two heads or something. She says no one really knows what he’s going through, and anyway, some day Whitney might change her mind. He is shocked, asking if she doesn’t think it’s wrong for them to live together as brother and sister, platonically. She says of course not, as long as they have no children. Chad agrees, and Tabby walks on, telling Endora to wait until he finds out Whitney’s baby is his.

Fox tries to talk to Whitney, but she says not now and pulls away. He wonders what’s going on with her.

TC tells Liz he feels bad for the way Whitney feels about marriage, but Liz tells him he has no reason to feel guilty, that Eve’s lies are what caused their marriage to break up. He tells her that Whitney blames him, too, and maybe she’s right, but Liz tells him she will talk to her and make her understand that not all marriages have secrets. He is happy with that, but Eve, overhearing, isn’t. She tells Liz to stay away from her daughter. Liz says she doesn’t take orders from Eve, and she will give advice to Whitney any time she wants to. Eve says she’d better not unless she’s ready to tell her own secrets. Liz tries to play it off, saying she has no idea what Eve is talking about, but Eve says she likes to think she’s better than her, that she’s going to marry TC, but she bets Liz has a lot of secrets of her own she’s keeping and one day they will come out. Liz looks guilty, but quickly says it’s called wishful thinking, but Eve says no, that her secrets are going to come out and ruin any chance at happiness she might have with TC. She walks away while Liz simmers, and TC asks her what Eve is talking about, what secrets is she keeping from him.

Pilar asks Martin to tell her the truth, the reason he left her. He asks how long she’s been listening and she tells him she heard it all, how he feels about her and Katherine and that he left to protect Pilar, that if he tells her the truth she will hate him, and that he left to protect her. She asks what he was protecting her from, and he says if he tells her it will make things worse, that he was protecting her then and he’s doing the same now. She begs him to tell her, that nothing could be so horrible, but he says he won’t tell her.

Luis looks around at the wharf and remembers they were going to have wedding pictures taken there, then daydreams about it. He and Sheridan are very much in love and very happy to finally be married. He comes back to reality and says they have to find a way to work their problem out.

Edna tells Beth she cannot kill Sheridan, showing her Marty snuggled up with the woman and both sleeping peacefully, saying they look like the perfect mother and child. Beth tells her to shut up and asks how he got in there with her. Edna says he brought him to her, that she’s his mommy. Beth tells her that she is his mommy, that Sheridan lost her son and she will never have any others because she is going to kill her tonight.

Kay is looking for Jessica, and Simone asks if thereís any sign of her yet. Kay says no, and Simone says sheís sure sheíll be home soon. Kay has another vision, seeing Jess being pursued by some men who want her to stop. She reacts in horror to the vision, and Simone asks whatís wrong. Kay tells her she saw something, and Simone asks if she had another vision. Kay says sheís not sure they are visions like her mother and Charity used to have, and it could just be because sheís upset and imagining terrible things. Simone asks what she saw, but Kay tells her it doesnít matter, Jessica is probably fine, then asks God to let her be OK.

Meanwhile, Jessica arrives at their house, glad to be home, but she falls down and hits her head on a rock, calling softly for her dad to help her.

Sam tells Martin he thinks Pilar deserves to know the truth, but Martin says it would only cause her more pain. She asks how much more pain could there be, what could be worse than the pain she felt when he left her with no note, no reason, that he just walked out leaving her to raise five kids on her own, and then when he came back all these years later he brought his mistress with him. She asks how there could be more pain than what she felt then. He says she can’t explain it, but it would cause even more pain than that. Sam asks the same question, what could be more painful than what she’s already gone through. Pilar begs him to tell her the truth.

TC asks Liz if she’s keeping secrets from him, saying he always thought she was being straight with him. She laughs it off, saying of course there are no secrets, that Eve is just trying to cause trouble for them. He buys it, as usual. Eve asks Whitney if she wants to talk to her about what’s going on, but Whitney says she’s talked enough and her mind is made up. Ivy tells her not to let what happened with her and Julian and her own parents to jade her against marriage. Fox says he always thought she wanted to be married before the baby was born, but Chad tells him not to tell her what she wants. Whitney tells them both to stop fighting, saying she will do what she wants and her mind is made up. TC tells Eve it’s all her fault that Whitney thinks so badly about marriage, but Julian tells her not to listen, that it’s a lie. Fox tells Chad if anyone is to blame it’s him, that if he hadn’t barged in and interrupted his proposal, Whitney would have accepted and they would be ready to get married. Whitney tells him he’s wrong, and he’s shocked by that. She says she wasn’t going to marry him, doesn’t want to marry anyone, and Fox asks if it’s because their parents screwed up, saying that makes no sense. She says she just doesn’t want to marry anyone, doesn’t want her life any more messed up than it already is. Fox asks what she means by messed up, that she is having a baby and is surrounded by people who love her so how can her life be messed up. Tabby tells Endora that Whitney’s secret is hanging by a thread again, then wonders how much longer it can hang before the thread snaps and he secret is revealed to the world. She is happy about all the pain and suffering it will bring. Fox still wants Whitney to tell him what is so horrible about her life.

Luis says he never thought he and Sheridan would spend another night apart, nor that they would ever fight like this. He hopes she will realize they belong together because he doesn’t think he can live without her.

Edna tells Beth she can’t kill Sheridan and take Marty’s mother away from him. Beth tells her if she’s not going to be helpful, then get out, but Edna says she’s trying to keep her from committing a crime that will land her in hell for eternity, but Beth just says “Blah, blah, blah.” Edna tells her to look at the two of them on the bed, saying they are their angels. Beth says she’s partly right, that in a few minutes Sheridan will be a real angel. Edna asks what she is doing, and Beth tells her she’s making use of natural gas and carbon dioxide, that Sheridan is never going to wake up from her angelic sleep. Edna tells her no, but Beth says yes, in a few minutes Sheridan will be dead and there’s nothing she nor anyone else can do to stop that.
