Eve pulls Whitney into her office at the hospital, telling her she will have Chad and Fox figuring out that the baby is Chad’s, not Fox’s, that she needs to calm down because she just made a scene out in the E.R. Whitney tells her mother she doesn’t care, that she hates this baby and it’s ruined her life, not realizing Chad and Fox have come in and heard her. Fox asks what’s wrong with her, that she was saying the same thing in the E.R., then reminds her she is carrying their baby. She tells him he should carry it, then, that she’s sick of it and it’s ruined her whole life and she can’t take any more. Julian has come in and asks Eve what’s wrong with Whitney. She hears him and tells him he and his sick father Alistair are what’s wrong, that they are the reason she hates her baby.

In the Wallace living room, Edna is putting flowers on a hat, listening to the country station. The announcer says to keep an eye out for the kidnapped baby, that there is a mother out there who wants her baby back.

Beth comes in and asks since when her mother has liked country music, and Edna tells her since she got a look at that hunky Brad Paisley, then gave a Minnie Pearl style “Howdy” as she puts the hat on her head. She goes on to say he can put her tractor in gear any time he wants to, then says they still haven’t tracked down Gwen Winthrop, Harmony’s number two wacko. Beth sarcastically asks who the number one wacko is, herself, and Edna hollers “Bingo!”, telling her she and Gwennie can start a kidnappers club on death row. She tells her mother to stop it, that Marty is her son and she’s the only mommy he knows. Edna tells her no, Sheridan is his real mommy, and soon she will realize he is her son and the day of reckoning will be started. She says she can’t wait for the day when Sheridan comes knocking on the door, demanding her son back. Beth tells her it’s not going to happen, and at that moment there is a knocking on the front door. Beth jumps up, looking like she wants to run, and Edna points at her and tells her she is just as scared that Sheridan will show up for her son, too.

Sheridan is still carrying and rocking the baby in the hospital nursery, and Luis tells her the baby has only known her for a couple of minutes and he already loves her. She says he’s not her baby. The nurse comes over to her and says the night crew is coming on so she doesn’t need to hold the baby any longer and takes him from her arms. Luis asks if she’s feeling any better, and she unconvincingly says “Yeah, sure”, then says no, asking how she could be. She tells him that Gwen has kidnapped Theresa’s baby and Sheridan is being flooded with memories of what she went through. She says they lost their baby, and she saw him die when he went over the cliff into the water, but her heart keeps telling her their baby is out there somewhere and he will come back to them someday.

In the hospital chapel, Katherine tells Father Lonigan that she will leave Harmony and Martin won’t know she’s gone until it’s too late. He tells her Martin loves her and will track her down, but she says never, she knows how to hide so he won’t be able to.

Theresa asks Sam to bring her baby back to them. Paloma and Martin hear her and Paloma feels bad for her. Martin tells her he has to go out there and look for her, but Paloma tells him they won’t let him, that they are too angry with him. He says he knows, but he can try, that all he cares about now is getting his granddaughter back. He leaves the room and Paloma thinks to herself that he is such a good man and doesn’t deserve to be hated. She says she should help, too, to find the baby and to help get the family to stop hating him. Out in the hallway, Sam tells the Lopez-Fitzgerald’s that there is no sign of Gwen yet, then says he hopes she didn’t cross the cordons before they had a chance to set them up or she could be just about anywhere. Theresa tells Ethan she has their baby, and Sam tells her not to worry, that he has a feeling she’s still in their parameters and they are doing a house to house search. She asks what else they are doing and he says they have the media involved, and Amber alert went out, and all the radio and TV stations are announcing it, so someone listening might spot them and call the police.

In the country store, Gwen is looking for the baby wipes and finds some she likes that have Aloe, but no alcohol. She tells the baby to never use alcohol on her face, that Grandma Rebecca taught her that. The radio is still playing and the Amber alert announcement goes out again, causing the clerk to look at Gwen and the baby. Gwen takes the wipes back to the counter, saying she thinks they will be enough, then asks why he’s looking at them like that. (commercial)

Father Lonigan tells Katherine that she’s spent a lifetime running from the truth and that leaving Harmony in secret again is wrong. She disagrees, saying coming back to Harmony in the first place was wrong. He asks if she can bear a life alone on the run, and she says she has to make amends somehow, that she has to go. She asks him to pray for her, that she can’t stay here and with any luck her leaving will solve all the problems for everyone, including Martin and Sheridan. She thinks about her daughter, then asks the priest to do her a favor and when he says yes she asks him to watch over Sheridan. She tells him she had no idea until tonight how troubled she really is, that she’s plagued by nightmares and guilt, and she’s innocent, never did anything wrong. She says she will need people to support her that she can trust. He says she doesn’t need to ask her that, and she thanks him, then leaves. He tells her he wishes that she find peace.

Luis reminds Sheridan that they’ve gone over this before, and to hold out hope their baby is alive is….Sheridan finishes it for him, saying “Madness.”, then says she knows, that she saw her baby die, but that she can’t help it, can’t control her heart, and her heart tells her the baby is still out there and he needs her. Luis says he’s worried about her, but she says that same heart put all of her faith in him, so how can it be wrong.

She begs him not to take that hope away from her because she couldn’t take it if he did, that it is what makes her life bearable, her hope and him. He says that hope can sometimes be cruel, and she agrees, but says dreams can come true, that her whole life she kept dreaming that everyone was wrong and her mother was still alive, and now she’s back. He tells her to look how that turned out, but she says she can’t help it, that she just misses that baby so much. Katherine walks up to them, hearing the last few words, and asks if something happened to Theresa’s baby, and Sheridan tells her know, nothing yet. Katherine is relieved, but Luis tells Sheridan they need to go check on Theresa. She says he’s right, then asks what Gwen has done. Luis tells her that he knows Gwen is her friend but he can’t feel much sympathy for her now considering she’s kidnapped his niece, and she says she knows, then says that for any mother to lose her baby has to be one of the worst things that can happen. Luis speaks loud enough for Katherine to hear clearly, saying unless you abandon your own daughter or a father abandons his son. They walk toward the rest of the family as Katherine watches, saying to herself that it’s just as painful to leave your child voluntarily in an effort to keep them safe.

Martin watches Pilar comforting Theresa, wishing they would let him help. Paloma comes out of her room and asks how she can help. Pilar asks what she’s doing, telling her she should be in bed. She says not to worry about her, that she wants to help. Martin tells her she can’t leave the hospital, she needs to take care of herself, but she tells him she’ll be fine. Theresa thanks her but says there isn’t much she can do, but the girl replies that she can, and grabs her mother’s hand, saying joining together makes them stronger.

She says she knows they hate their father, but they need to forget about it now and all work together to find Jane, as a family.

Gwen asks the clerk why he’s staring at her, and he tells her he just heard an Amber alert, that a woman kidnapped a baby in Harmony and is on the run. Gwen is scared and tells him that has nothing to do with her, then starts to leave. He tells her she’s not going anywhere. (commercial)

Gwen tells the clerk she needs to go, but he says she can’t go anywhere. Gwen asks why not, and he tells her that he just told her some nut job is out there kidnapping babies. She says “So?”, and he tells her to look at her baby, that she’s cute enough to be on a baby food jar, that a woman alone in a lonely place like this needs to be careful, and a kidnapper would just love to get her hands on her. He tells her to let him finish ringing her purchases up and then he’ll walk her to the car and get them on the road safe and sound. Gwen thanks him and says he’s been a really big help, and he tells her they aim to please. As he finishes ringing up the things she bought, Gwen looks relieved, telling “Ashley” that it’s a sign that no one will ever take her away from her again.

Martin helps a weak Paloma into a chair as Theresa tells Pilar that if her dad wants to help find Jane they should let him, that it doesn’t mean they’ve forgiven him. Pilar motions with her head that she accepts that, and Paloma says that’s good. Luis, Sheridan, and Katherine come in and Martin goes to Katherine and asks if she’s all right as Luis and Sheridan go to Pilar and Theresa. Katherine tells Martin she’s fine, and he asks where she’s been. She tells him she just took a little time for herself, and she’s fine. Theresa asks Luis if they’ve found Gwen and Jane, but they have to say no. Sheridan says she so sorry, that she knows exactly how Theresa feels.

Sam comes over, saying the roadblocks turned up nothing, neither did the airport or buses, and that the house to house search has started and he thinks that’s their best bet. He thinks Gwen is holed up somewhere. Luis says if that’s the case, she’s probably holed up somewhere she’s familiar with, like the Crane mansion or the outbuildings there. Sam says that makes sense, that there are stables and garages there, besides the mansion and Sheridan’s cottage. Rebecca says the security guards and staff have already searched there, but Luis asks who pays them, and she meekly says Alistair does. He tells her he will search it himself. Rebecca says she is going with him, but he warns her not to think she can interfere with the investigation. She asks who they think she is, that she just wants to find her daughter and make sure she’s all right. Paloma says they will all go, since they all want to find Baby Jane, and Martin says he’s going, too. Sam says it’s a good idea since there are hundreds of acres up there and they will need all the help they can get. Ethan says they can split into teams, that he will lead one since he knows that place like the back of his hand. Theresa says she knows he can find their daughter, and he promises he won’t come back until he has. Sam tells Pilar to take Theresa and Little Ethan home and calm her down, that he will call if they find anything. She agrees and thanks him. Theresa gets maudlin again, whining that she can’t even help find her little girl because she’s stuck in the wheelchair, and Rebecca starts to jump all over her but Ethan stops her, then tells Theresa they will find the baby. Sam leads them out as Theresa calls after them to please bring her baby home. Alistair is watching in his bedroom and laughs at that, mimicking her, saying “Please bring my baby back to me.” in a falsetto voice, then laughing harder. Tina rouses, and he says he is going to order some baby back ribs and coleslaw because of all their pleasurable exercising. She starts teasing him and he laughingly tells her to stop, not really meaning it.

Whitney says it is all the Crane’s fault, but that’s nothing new, that the whole family is evil and that they are at fault for all this and for her hating her baby. Fox tells her it’s their baby, telling her to stop saying she hates their child and saying the baby has nothing to do with his family. Eve jumps in, taking Whitney by the arm and walking her across the office. She tells her to pull herself together, that she is about to expose her own secret. She tells her mother she doesn’t care any more, then walks over to the others and says she knows they are probably wanting to know the whole story, why she hates her baby, and that she is going to tell them everything and then they will understand it all. (commercial)

Chad tells Whitney not to say she hates her baby, that she can’t mean it. Fox says he thinks he knows what’s up, that it’s a hormonal thing, that they are raging. Chad asks if it’s about Theresa, and Gwen taking her baby. She says they don’t understand, no matter what she says, they won’t understand, and starts crying. Fox walks to her, putting his arms around her and comforting her, telling her they want to understand and to know what it is that’s bothering her, that he knows she doesn’t hate their baby. He tells her to talk to him, that he’s here for her. Chad speaks up, saying he’s here for her, too, and for the baby, that he will be like a father to it. Fox snaps at him that the baby has a father, and one is enough, thanks very much. Chad tells him he can’t ignore the fact that he and Whitney were close, that he wants to be in her life. Fox turns on him and tells him to get it through his head that that time is over, then tells Julian that maybe Chad would like a transfer to the company in the Philippines or something. Whitney has had enough and says that maybe she should go to the Philippines where she can be alone and raise her baby by herself. She starts walking out, telling them not to follow her. Fox calls after her, but doesn’t follow.

The clerk tells Gwen he is all done, and says he will help them out to the car so they will be nice and safe. She thanks him, and he says any man would have done it, especially on a night with kidnappers on the loose. He says you have to take care of a sweet baby like her, and Gwen says not to worry, that she is her whole life and nothing will ever come between them. They walk out the door and the radio announcer starts talking about the kidnapper again, this time giving her name, the car she’s in, what the baby is wearing, that Gwen slit her wrists earlier so watch for bandages on them, and she is considered dangerous. Of course, the clerk hears none of this. The announcer says their next request is from Edna Wallace of Harmony, telling her he hopes the rest of her is as sexy as her voice.

Edna, hearing the same announcement, yells at the radio for him to come on over and find out. Beth gets upset and jumps over the sofa to turn the radio off, telling her mother to leave the country music alone for one night. Edna protests, saying he was going to play her song as Beth yanks the hat off her head. Edna tells her to give it back, then gives it up, saying she’s just nervous because of the news bulletin, another crazy kidnapper in Harmony. Beth says she can’t hear her, and Edna tells her to do her a favor and not run when Sheridan shows up at the door because she’s sick and tired of her shenanigans. Beth smiles sickly and says it’s not going to happen.

Edna tells her those two have a connection, that she read somewhere that it takes three minutes for a baby to bond with it’s mother, then asks how long she kept them down there in that pit, then reminds her that Sheridan had to breast feed him because he was sickly and Beth was bone dry, having never been pregnant. She goes on to say that somewhere under her blond hair Sheridan’s brain is telling her the truth, that Marty is her baby. Beth tells her to stop, but she just keeps on going, asking if she doesn’t get scared every time a car pulls up, then tells her to listen, asking if she hears it now. She says that Sheridan will be coming for her son one day, and it might be very soon. Beth is upset and pulls away from her mother’s grip.

Pilar walks into the E.R. and looks at Katherine standing by the doorway. She walks on by to her daughter, telling her it’s time to go, that they are bringing the van around and Little Ethan will be there to meet them. Sheridan asks if they want her to go, too, that she has her car, and Pilar says that would be very good of her. Theresa tells her mother she can’t do it, but Pilar tells her she can, saying she has to be strong for Little Ethan. She rolls her daughter out, past Katherine, but as Sheridan starts to follow, she stops her. Sheridan tells her she looks so grim, then asks if anything is wrong. Katherine says she was hoping to have a word with her, that she wants to talk with her about the future. Sheridan shakes her head yes. (commercial)

Sheridan asks what he mother wants to talk about, saying she knows she and Luis don’t want to have any more contact with her. Her mother says she wants to apologize to her for all the pain she’s caused her, by leaving her as a child, for all the pain she suffered by Alistair, how Katherine and Martin coming back had caused so much pain for her, and the confusion about why they left and all the secrets. Sheridan tells her she’s heard all this before, and the woman says she knows, but says the most important thing she wants to tell her is that she loves her, always has and always will, no matter what happens. Sheridan says it sounds like she’s saying goodbye, then asks if she and Martin are leaving.

Katherine tells her no, that it’s just so important for her to understand that her happiness means more to Katherine than she will ever know. Sheridan thanks her for that, and that after all that’s happened tonight, she wants to say she’s sorry she wasn’t hear for her when her baby was kidnapped and…..but can’t say the word. Killed, Sheridan says, telling her she can say it. Katherine says yes, and she’s sorry for all the pain she’s endured and she hopes she and Luis will have more children, that she wants her to experience the bond between a mother and child. She goes on to say she knows she left her when she was young and that she hates her, but she says she knows the bond is still there because she can feel it. Sheridan says she knows about the bond, that the few minutes she had with her baby taught her about it and she can still feel it, too.

Beth comes down stairs and tells her mother that Marty is snoring like a chainsaw, saying she feels sorry for the woman he marries. She sees that Edna is working with something and asks what it is, so Edna says she took away her music and her hat and she had to have something to amuse herself. Beth looks at the book and sees it’s pictures of Marty and one of Sheridan. Edna says Sheridan and Marty look so much alike it’s scary, then says maybe she can get the woman to give her a picture of her as a baby, that she knows they would look like twins. Beth tells her to stop it, stop playing games, then says she’s in it as deep as Beth is as she tears the picture of Sheridan up. Edna says no, she isn’t, that old people get away with everything. She says she’s not going to the slammer, that one day Luis will put two and two together because there is no denying that Marty looks just like Sheridan, and Luis himself won’t be able to deny it, either.

Luis and Sam come in to the Crane mansion, and Paloma and Martin are close behind. Luis asks if they’ve found anything, but they say no, telling them where they’ve searched. Sam says it’s the same with them, and tells the others where they searched. Rebecca and Ethan walk in and when asked, say they haven’t found anything, either. Rebecca sits down, asking who knew how big the estate is, that you could hide an army out there, and then complaining about having ruined her shoe. Ethan says he doesn’t think Gwen would risk the baby’s health by staying outside and the only place they haven’t searched is the mansion. Luis asks Paloma if she’s ok and she says yes, then tells him he should have seen their dad out there, that he searched everywhere, just like a blood dog. Luis says she means blood hound, and she says whatever. Luis flippantly says “Good for him”, then tells her she was hurt badly and if she starts hurting any worse he will take her back to the hospital. She tells him she can decide for herself. Sam says the mansion is huge, telling Martin to take Paloma and Rebecca and search the ground floor while he, Luis, and Ethan will search upstairs. They take of to search, and Rebecca lags behind, wondering where Gwennie is, and whatever happened to Baby Jane.

Upstairs, Alistair is watching them from his bedroom and tells them to waste their time and search the whole mansion, that she just isn’t here, then laughs.

Back in the cabin, Gwen takes the groceries into the kitchen, then grabs a can of tomato soup and tells the baby that Daddy brought her favorite soup and it’s so good on cold nights. She says she just has to find a can opener, and pulls open a drawer to look for one. She finds a framed photograph in there, and turns it over to see it’s Ethan and Theresa. She goes berserk, slamming it against the counter and breaking the glass as she has fits, calling Theresa a bitch and saying she hates her. (commercial)

Julian asks Eve what is wrong with Whitney, but she tells him it’s a long story. She says she’s glad he’s back, that it’s just been hell here, then asks if he found out who tried to kill Alistair. He looks at her bleakly, and she tells him to tell her that he said who it was, that she can’t go back to prison, then asks again that he tell her who it was. Still watching them on closed circuit, Alistair says his son has some exceedingly bad news for her, and watching her suffer just really turns him on. He gets into bed and kisses the arm of the sleeping Tina, asking her if she’s ready for round three. He looks at the screen and sees Katherine talking to Sheridan, then says his lovely wife is saying another sappy goodbye. He says good riddance to her, asking who needs a wife when you’re Alistair Crane.

Katherine tells Sheridan that she knows how she must hate her, but if she really does know how strong that bond is then she must know how much she loves her. Sheridan says she has a strange way of showing it, but Katherine tells her that everything she did was for her, thinking it would be best for her. She says all she ever wanted was for her to be happy, then asks her to try to be happy, asking her to promise. Sheridan says thank you for her kind words, then says she has to go, that with all the talk of babies she’s just remembered something and she has to go. She walks away hurriedly, and Katherine watches her leave, softly telling her goodbye, and that she loves her.

Gwen is now pounding on the picture glass, telling Theresa that “Ashley” is hers now and she is to stay away from them. She hears the baby crying and heads into the other room, then stops and remembers finding out that the baby was Theresa’s, not hers, and how upset she was while Theresa was ecstatic, telling Ethan that she had his first child.

Gwen comes back to the present and says that “Ashley” is her daughter, all hers. She looks at her hands and sees that she has cut them, telling that to the baby and wiping the blood on the cover on the sofa. She picks the baby up and says that Mama’s here, then keeps saying “My baby” over and over.

The teams hunting Gwen and the baby in the mansion meet up in the upstairs hallway, saying neither team found anything. Sam says they’ve searched the Crane estate from top to bottom and there’s nothing there, so they might as well call it a day. Ethan has a thought, telling them there is another door they haven’t checked. Sam asks what he’s talking about, that he searched every room, but Rebecca tells him it’s Alistair’s bedroom, that he’s not here that often but when he is he uses it as his own private lair. Luis asks where it is, saying he went through every room on the floor, and Ethan tells him it’s a secret door, that he ran across it when he was a boy. Rebecca says she was riding Pepe and her castanets scared him and he ran right into it. Sam asks who Pepe is, and she tells him he’s her donkey, then says not to ask and she won’t tell. Luis yells where is it, and Ethan walks over and pulls a ring, and a section of the wall opens up, revealing a door. Luis tries to open it, finds it locked, then kicks it in, startling Alistair and Tina. The old man asks how he got in there, and Luis says he’s the one asking questions and he’s only got one - where did Gwen take his niece. Tina looks over at one of the screens and sees Gwen walking back and forth in the cabin with the baby in her arms. (commercial)

Whitney is sitting by herself when Fox and Chad come in. She tells them to give her a break, and Fox asks how he’s supposed to do that when she keeps saying she hates their baby, asking what kind of talk is that. Chad says she can talk to them, and Fox says she can talk to him, then asks her to tell him what’s wrong, if she’s still worried the baby will have Crane blood. He says he thought she worked that all out with his grandmother, but she says no, she didn’t. Fox says ok, and Whitney adds that the fact the baby will have Crane blood is driving her crazy. He tells her not to worry about that, that they will be great parents and that’s what counts. He asks her not to run away again, saying they will have conversations, that they are a couple and they will work it out together. Chad says he’ll be there for her, too, adding that as he said, he will be like a father to it. Fox yells at him to shut up, and Whitney says they should finish it by themselves and she will leave, then does.

Fox tells Chad to look at what he’s done and starts to follow her out, but Chad stops him, saying he won’t let him go after her. Fox gets tough, asking him what he’s going to do, and Chad says he should just handle his business, saying he won’t let him go until he talks to him about how he’s been neglecting Whitney. Out in the hallway, Whitney damns the child, saying it’s ruining her life.

Eve asks Julian to tell her if he knows who tried to poison Alistair, because the only way she can stay out of prison is to find out who the real murder is. He tells her that Alistair claims he doesn’t know who tried to poison him, and she reminds him that at the party he said he did. Julian tells her that he was just playing with them, as he usually does, and she gets upset, saying she can’t go back to jail, that Whitney needs her to be there for her, then says he doesn’t understand. He realizes that’s the same thing Whitney had said and asks what is torturing her so, and Eve as well.

Beth says she’s going to go check on Marty and then put the new rubber sheet on her bed. As she starts upstairs, there is a knock on the door. Beth wonders who it could be at that time of night, and Edna says maybe it’s the FBI, then hollers for them to come on in. Beth tells her to be quiet, then opens the door to find Sheridan and asks why she’s there. Sheridan tells her she’s there because of her baby.

The baby cries and Gwen tries to calm her down, rocking her and talking softly to her. She says they are ok, they are there together in their snug little house and nasty Theresa is never going to hurt them. The baby quiets, and Gwen sees the picture on the table where she left it and goes over and picks it up, then tosses it into the trash can. The camera shows the photo and frame with the glass broken and bloody.

Theresa is looking at a picture of her, Ethan, and Jane. Pilar comes in and tells her Little Ethan is in his jimmies and he brushed his teeth. She tearfully asks her mother when they are going to call and tell her they’ve found her baby. Pilar comforts her.

Luis tells the old man to answer him, tell him where Gwen took his niece. He says if anyone in this town knows where she took her, it’s him. He tells them to get out of his room, but Ethan says no one is going anywhere until he tells him where his daughter is. Tina jumps and looks toward one of the monitors, and everyone turns to see what she’s looking at. Ethan is stunned, saying “Oh, my God!”

Previews:

Luis, to Alistair: “If you don’t tell me where my niece is, you’re going to leave - in a body bag.”

Sheridan, to Beth: “It’s almost like you’re afraid for me to see Marty. Why, Beth?”

Julian, to Eve: “Eve, what’s going on? What is it you’re not telling me?”

Eve’s reply: “Fox - he isn’t the father of Whitney’s baby.”
