In Gwen’s hospital room, Ivy, Rebecca, and Gwen hold
hands as Gwen sits up in bed and tells them that she is with them, that they
can’t let Theresa get away with what she’s doing. Rebecca agrees, saying the
“little tramp” has gone too far this time and they have to keep her from
breaking up Gwen’s family with Ethan. Ivy reminds them that they have papers
signed by Theresa that say she gives up all right to their baby, and Gwen
agrees, saying as soon as the papers are filed tomorrow, Theresa will not be
allowed to touch their baby again. Rebecca goes off about the gall of her, just
because she carried the baby as their surrogate she thinks she has a right to
it. Gwen says that Theresa is out of her mind if she really thinks Gwen will let
her keep the baby, then asks where Ethan is. Rebecca tells her he’s in the NICU
keeping an eye on Theresa and also calling the courthouse to see if he can get
the papers filed tonight instead of waiting for tomorrow. Gwen is happy with
that and says the sooner they can get Theresa out of NICU, the better. She then
tells them she is going to go wash her face and try to shake the last of the
sedative out of her system. She is hopeful that Ethan might have good news from
the court by then. Rebecca tells her it’s a good idea, and once her daughter is
out of the room she begins again, asking Ivy why Theresa is being so stubborn
since she signed away her rights to the baby in exchange for Little Ethan, and
if she keeps it up, she won’t get him back. Ivy thinks to herself that Theresa
thinks the baby could be hers and Ethan’s, that she drugged him and slept with
him and now she thinks the baby is hers. She calls her a conniving little bitch.
Sam tells Ethan it’s hard for him to believe that Theresa would disguise herself as Gwen and trick Ethan into sleeping with her.
Ethan explains that she thought
she had miscarried the implant that belonged to him and Gwen. Sam says it’s the
baby she needed to exchange for Little Ethan, and Ethan says yes, but they found
out she hadn’t really lost the first baby and Eve did DNA tests and found one
baby was Gwen’s and the other was Theresa’s. Sam asks if Gwen knows about it,
and Ethan says no, and they don’t know which baby died, but Theresa is convinced
the baby she had is hers. Sam tells him another DNA test would tell them, but
Ethan says while Theresa wants to do that, he doesn’t. Sam asks why not, and
Ethan tells him it’s because the baby is legally his and Gwen’s and he doesn’t
want it to be anymore painful for Theresa to have to give it to them knowing
it’s her child. Sam says she’s already convinced the baby is hers with him and
is determined to keep it. Ethan says yes, and if Gwen finds out that he slept
with Theresa and the baby is hers, it will destroy her and his marriage will be
over. He walks to the window and watches Theresa with the baby, and she looks up
and stares back at him.
Tabitha and Endora are still watching the goings on in the Crane mansion on their TV screen. Tabitha laughs about what a night of evil it was, and they hadn’t had to do one darn thing. She goes on to say that Alistair had arranged the party so he could reveal a huge secret, but everyone in the room hates him and wanted to see him dead, and one of them managed to do him in before he could tell the big secret. She says it’s too delicious, then starts listing the suspects and their reasons for wanting him dead. She mentions Katherine, who tried to kill him before and hates him because he planned to tell everyone that she is actually his dead wife, a secret that would have split Sheridan and Luis up for good since Luis already hates her because she took off with his father all those years ago. Then there’s Martin, who wants to protect Katherine from him, and Sheridan, who hates him for trying to kill her and keep her and Luis apart, and there is Luis, who hates him for a myriad of reasons, mostly because he killed his brother Antonio and for all the things he’s done to Sheridan. Pilar hates him because she blames him for Martin’s disappearance, Julian hates him for keeping him from Eve for all those years and for not telling him their son, Chad, was alive. Chad hates him for cutting him out of the company and his will, as does Fox and even Julian, and Beth figures if he dies, Luis and Sheridan will have to postpone their wedding. Whitney hates him for keeping the secret of Chad’s parentage from them and actually pushing her to have an incestuous relationship with her own half-brother and getting pregnant by him. Then there’s TC, who hates him for things he did to his family and for tearing his family apart, and even Liz has reasons to hate him. Tabitha chuckles with Endora and tells her there isn’t a person in the room who wouldn’t have loved to poison the her grandfather.
Tina, holding Alistair’s limp form on the floor of the Crane Mansion asks someone to help him. She asks how they can all just stand there and let him die, then asks Julian and Sheridan to consider that he is their father and they should help him. Everyone in the room simply stands still and stares at her as she holds the dead man and begs for help. (commercial)
Sam’s pager goes off and he tells Ethan he has to check in at the stationhouse . He asks if his son will be all right, and Ethan tells him he will be. Sam says he wishes he could have been more help, but Ethan tells him not to worry about it, he will think of something. Sam says he knows he will, and to keep him posted. Ethan promises to do that as Sam walks away. Ethan turns back to the window and watches Theresa and his baby.
Rebecca is still wondering why Theresa is putting up such a fight when she knows
tomorrow morning she’s going to lose the baby. Ivy says who knows why she does
anything, that she is a vindictive little bitch that just wants to keep hurting
Gwen. Rebecca doesn’t buy that, saying she is up to something and saying that
she knows her hands are tied legally yet she continues to claim the child as
hers and wonders what she’s trying to pull. Ivy says they will find out soon
enough, then changes the subject by asking if Gwen is all right. Rebecca calls
out to her daughter and asks how she is, and Gwen says she’s fine. Ivy wonders
to herself what Theresa is up to, saying that she’s been after Ethan for years,
almost getting him away from Gwen until she found out she was pregnant and Ethan
dropped Theresa to marry Gwen. Then the baby was stillborn, thanks to Theresa’s
selfishness, and now she’s trying to take this baby away from Gwen, too. She
wonders if Theresa really thinks she can get Ethan away from Gwen by convincing
him this baby is theirs.
Theresa and Ethan are standing outside the NICU, looking in the window as the doctor checks the baby over. He asks how she’s doing, whether the Dr. said how she’s doing. Theresa tells him she’s checking her again, that the next 48 hours are the most crucial so they will just have to wait and see. Ethan tells her he just wants his little girl to live, and she asks why this is happening, why their little girl can’t be all right. He tells her he doesn’t have all the answers. She agrees, telling him he doesn’t know how painful it is to stand there holding her little fingers and just watch her struggling to live. Ethan says he knows. She then tells him that she blames her father for this, that when she heard that he was back with his mistress, she went into premature labor, and if it wasn’t for him she might have been able to carry their daughter to term. She says it wasn’t enough that he abandoned them all those years ago, now he has to come back and cause them more pain, and now their daughter has to pay the price. “Damn him!”, she says.
Martin says that Alistair told them someone had poisoned his cigar and asks Tina if he happened to say who it was. She yells that no, he couldn’t say anything, then asks if anyone is going to do something to help him, that they can’t have him die. She asks Dr. Russell if she can help, but Eve says she checked his pulse and there was none, but Tina says maybe it’s not too late, she could try CPR or something. Eve goes to the phone and calls for an ambulance, and Julian asks why, since she said it’s too late. Eve tells him she knows, but Tina is right, there may be something she can do. Julian asks why she would want to, but she tells him she’s a doctor and it’s her job. Tabitha, watching on her telly, tells Endora that they can’t let him die . She says it was all well and good to see him get poisoned and wonder which one of them did it and all, but he has to stay alive to say that one word that will destroy them. She laughs about everyone standing there holding their breath, waiting and hoping the evil old man will die, but tells Eve to work hard to save him, for the good of evil everywhere. Luis tells Sheridan that he knows he‘s her father, but he hopes it‘s too late to do anything to revive him. She says nobody cares if he dies, including her. (commercial)
Theresa tells Ethan again that she blames her father for their baby being born to soon. He tells her to stop calling it “our baby”, since she knows it could just as easily be Gwen’s and his. She tells him she knows it’s their baby. He says she can’t know that, and besides, it is his and Gwen’s anyway because they have a deal. She asks how he can talk about deals while their daughter is lying in there fighting for her life. He says because they had a deal, that she would give them the baby to get Little Ethan back, and she is going to stick to that deal because Gwen needs the baby, it’s the only thing that’s kept her going since Sarah died. Theresa turns on him and asks if he’s asking her to give Gwen her child because she can’t have one, and he tells her she needs to think about Gwen, how much pain this will cause her, and since they’ve caused her so much pain already, does she really want to cause more for her. Theresa asks what about her pain, then recounts how Ethan was going to marry her until Gwen popped up pregnant and he married her instead. She says they were supposed to spend their lives together, and asks how he thinks that made her feel. He says she felt betrayed, and Theresa agrees, saying that he loved her but he married Gwen. He tells her he loved both of them, but she says it’s not even about who loves whom or anything else, it’s about her little baby and the fact she won’t give her up for any reason, that if Gwen wants to have a baby she can adopt one, but she will never have Theresa’s child.
Inside the Crane mansions, the party guests hear sirens as the ambulance arrives. The paramedics run in the house and ask Eve what they have. She says Alistair was poisoned and she can’t get a heartbeat, then asks for the defibrillator. They set it up and she zaps the unconscious man with it, then says she has a pulse. They get him ready to take to the hospital.
Tabitha is glad the old coot is still alive, although he’d kill them both if he got the chance, even if he is on the dark side with them. She says for now they need his evil, then Endora, who’s been holding on to Tabby’s glass, tries to pull it to her to get a drink. Tabby tells her no, she’s too young for martimmys, and they need to get to the hospital right away. She reminds her that he is her father’s father, after all, and they need to keep him alive to help spread misery to all the inhabitants of Harmony.
Tina thanks Eve as they start to take Alistair away to the hospital. Eve looks
at Julian and says he’s his father, no matter what kind of monster he is. Julian
tells her he’s done nothing to deserve anyone’s pity or mercy. Sam comes in and
asks what’s going on, that he had been at the stationhouse when the ambulance
called telling them they might have a possible homicide here. Luis tells him
yes, then Sam asks why he’s there. Luis tells him about the party, that Alistair
got them all there to terrorize them, then kept talking about the painting,
saying it would explain everything. Sam asked what he meant by “explain
everything”, and Luis tells him no one knows, that he just kept saying he could
destroy them all with one word. Sam asks what the one word was, and Luis tells
him that he never got the chance to say it, but he and Sheridan figured it was a
way to try to get them apart. Sam says “Again?”, and Luis tells him yes, but
they weren’t scared. Sheridan tells him that there is nothing he can say to tear
them apart and Luis tells him that Alistair kept talking about the painting but
never got around to explaining what it meant. They look at the painting, and Sam
says it’s a painting of a woman with a child, wearing a veil. He asks what it
could mean, but Sheridan tells him they don’t know. Then Luis goes on to say
Alistair was walking around with a glass of cognac but he never drank it, and
finally he told them that one of them had poisoned it. Sam said that Luis had
said he never finished the drink, and Luis said he never drank it at all, as a
matter of fact, he threw it into the fireplace. Then he went and lit up one of
his cigars, immediately started choking, said it had been poisoned, went into
convulsions, and passed out. One of the paramedics tells Eve they are ready to
transport Alistair to the hospital and the other one asks if anyone wants to go
with him. They ask if there is a family member who wants to ride with him, but
no one speaks up. Tina looks at Fox and says he’s his grandson, but Fox replies
not any more, and Chad pipes up saying him, too, but the racist bastard would
probably want him to ride in the back of the ambulance, anyway. Tina asks what
kind of people they are, that they call Alistair a monster but they are the
monsters, that one of them tried to kill him and the rest are willing to stand
there and watch him die. She then tells the paramedics that she works for him
and she will ride in the ambulance with him. Sam tells her she can’t leave town
because there are some questions he has for her, and she says she’ll be happy to
answer any questions he has. Julian tells everyone the party is over and they
can all go home, but Sam says no one can go anywhere, that it’s a crime scene,
one of them tried to kill Alistair and he’s going to find out who. (commercial)
Gwen comes out of the restroom and tells Ivy and Rebecca she’s ready. Her mother asks if she’s feeling better, and she says yes, she wants to go see Ethan and her baby. Ivy asks if she thinks she should, since Theresa is still in there with the baby. Rebecca adds that it could be upsetting for her, telling her that she herself was upset, and she had wanted to run in and rip her heart out when she saw her sitting there holding Gwen’s baby’s tiny fingers. Gwen says she can handle it because in a few hours Theresa will have no right at all to Gwen’s baby, and her daughter will finally have her real mother sitting beside her. Rebecca asks if she’s sure, and she says she is, she just wants to see her baby. They walk out to go to NICU and Ivy says to herself that if there is any justice in the world God won’t allow Theresa to keep that baby, even if it is hers.
Ethan tells Theresa that she needs to think about what she’s doing, how she’s going to destroy Gwen, and that she’s not even sure the baby is hers. Theresa replies that she is certain and that’s why she wants to do another DNA test. He tells her she’s forgetting about the legality of the situation, that she signed a binding contract to give him and Gwen the baby as soon as it’s born, and if she tries to fight them, she will lose. She tells him she won’t lose, that no court in the world will force her to give up her own flesh and blood. He tells her she knows Gwen would be a good mother, but she says not to her child, that she will never let someone else raise her child. He asks what about if it turns out to be Gwen’s, will she still keep it then, but Theresa says that will never happen. He tells her he can’t stand to hurt Gwen like this anymore. She asks if he really loves Gwen, then reminds him about California, how Gwen was delivering their baby but he was with her, kissing her, wanting her. She asks him what if she is right and the baby in there is his with her.
She asks if he will leave
her to raise their baby alone. He tells her none of it matters because in a few
hours the papers are going to be filed and she will have to give them the baby.
She tells him no, she won’t. He reminds her again that she signed an agreement
to give them the baby when it is born, but she tells him she agreed to give them
the implanted baby that was his with Gwen, but that this is her baby and has
nothing to do with Gwen. She tells him the truth about them sleeping together is
going to come out and he needs to accept it. He tells her they will fight her on
this. She says “Fight me!” and starts walking away, then swoons and he catches
her as she falls. Bending over her, he asks if she’s ok. She looks up at him and
asks why he keeps denying that he loves her, that he has always loved her from
the first day. Gwen, Ivy, and Rebecca walk up and see them together, and Gwen
asks what’s going on.
Sam tells everyone to listen up, he needs to question each of the party guests. He tells them to get comfortable, it might be a while. They all look at each other, and Sam goes to Luis. He repeats that Luis had said Alistair knew someone had poisoned his drink, and Luis said yes. Sheridan speaks up, saying that when he started choking he tried to get the words out to name who had done it but he couldn’t and then just passed out. Luis tells him it could have been anyone in the room, even Luis himself. Sam looks around and asks if anyone might want to confess. Pilar speaks up and tells him she knows who did it, that it was obvious it was Katherine.
The paramedics wheel Alistair into the hospital and through the corridors to the emergency room. Tabitha and Endora are close behind, and when the old woman spots him, she tells her daughter she hopes they aren’t too late. The doctor examines Alistair and says the poison has reached his heart. He asks for defib, and says to give him 300. Tabitha tells Endora they are too late, that he is dying. The doctor gives him a shock. (commercial)
Ethan tells Gwen that Theresa was weak, she fell, and he caught her. Rebecca says she’s never been too weak to try to seduce him. He tells her that Theresa just gave birth, so she needs to give her a break. Gwen says yes, she just gave birth to her baby, then asks Theresa why the hell she’s not in her room recuperating. Ivy tells Ethan that she thinks it would be a really good idea if Theresa were to go back to her room to rest, and Gwen says yes, it would, and then she can stay with her baby. Theresa tells her that it’s her baby and no one is going to be at her side but her. Gwen says that she is really incredible, and asks how she can seriously think that Gwen is going to let her keep Gwen’s baby, then asks Ethan why he keeps defending her, that he can clearly see what she’s trying to do. He tells her he’s trying to make a bad situation a little easier, but she tells him he’s not doing a very good job and asks why he keeps letting Theresa hurt her this way. Theresa tells her that the baby is hers, but Gwen responds that she’s just a vessel that carried the baby made up of Gwen and Ethan’s DNA. Rebecca butts in and calls her a little tramp, telling her to give it up because she will never win. Theresa tells her that she will win, but Gwen gets even angrier and says that she won’t win, that once the papers are filed, Gwen will never let her anywhere near her baby again, and now she won’t even get Little Ethan back. Theresa tells her she will get Little Ethan back and she will keep her baby. Gwen calls her a psychotic little bitch and asks if she has any idea how much she hates her as she tries to attack her as Ethan holds her back, telling her to cool it. She tells Theresa that she will never get her baby, ever.
The nurse tells the doctor they are losing Alistair and asks if she should give him some more Narcan. He says they did that in the field, then injects something into his heart. The machine shows no response, a fact the nurse reports. The doctor finally says he’s gone, and he doesn’t think anyone in town will miss him. Tabitha and Endora are still watching, and Tabby tells her daughter that she has to make them disappear. She picks up a sheet and has Endora zap it, turning it into an invisibility cloak, then they walk into the emergency room and Endora zaps Alistair as the doctor and nurses are cleaning up. Alistair starts to breathe and his heart starts beating, and when the doctor hears the machine beating with his heart, he checks and realizes he has come back to life. They are all amazed, and the nurse says she can’t believe heaven sent a miracle to revive Alistair Crane. Tabitha, still under the cloak with Endora, says that heaven had nothing to do with it.
Pilar tells Sam that Katherine is the one who poisoned Alistair, that she shot him before and now she used poison and it worked. Martin says that it isn’t true, but Luis tells him to shut up. Sam tells them all to calm down, then asks Pilar how she knows this is true. They walk away to talk in private. Martin asks Katherine if she’s ok, and she tells him she’s a little shaky. He tells her not to pay attention to Pilar, that everything will be all right.
She looks at him
pointedly and asks if it really will, and he asks if she thinks he did it. She
tells him that if he did, he did everyone in the room a favor. He retorts that
whoever did it did the whole world a favor, not just the people in that room.
Chad asks Whitney if she’s ok, and she says yes. He asks if she thinks Katherine
really did it. Fox says he doesn’t know, that she tried it once before, then
tells him to look at everyone there, that everyone of them could have done it.
Chad says he knows Whitney didn’t do it, and Fox asks if that means Chad did.
Liz gives TC some coffee and tells him to sober up before he talks to Sam. TC
says he hopes Alistair dies, that he doesn’t deserve to live. Liz tells him to
be quiet, that everyone knows how much he hates Alistair and Sam will suspect
him. Then she asks if he really did do it. Beth tells Eve she was amazing, the
way that she saved his life after all the horrible things he’s done to her.
Sheridan agrees, saying she saved his life. Eve reminds them that she didn’t
jump right into action, that she does hate the man, then says that he did
survive. Beth says that it’s still not certain that he won’t die, that he could
pull through, but if he does die, everyone would be happy. Sheridan says she
understands why the others all hate him, but she asks why Beth does, what had he
ever done to her. Pilar tells Sam he has to arrest Katherine. Luis tells her to
calm down, and Sam asks how she knows Mrs. Wheeler killed Alistair, asking if
she saw her put poison in his drink or on his cigar. She stares at Katherine,
who stares back at her. (commercial)
Ethan tries to get Gwen to calm down, but she turns on him and tells him to shut up, then asks why he keeps defending Theresa. He tells her he’s just trying to find a peaceful solution to all this. Theresa tells her she will never take Theresa’s baby and that she’s never going to forgive her or the whore she calls mother for stealing her son.
Sam asks Pilar again if she saw Katherine put poison in Alistair’s drink or on his cigar. Pilar looks at her, then says no, but she tried to kill him twice before and she just thought she had tried again. Sam tells her that Mrs. Wheeler is a suspect, but not to make accusations unless she has proof. He tells Pilar and Luis he will need to talk to them later, so just relax. Liz asks TC again if he killed Alistair, but he just puts his coffee cup on the table and stands up. Liz says ok, she doesn’t want to know, but he’s going to need an alibi, and she’s it. He asks what she means, and she says she will be his alibi, that she will tell Sam she was with him all the time so he couldn’t have done it. He looks at her and says “You’d do that for me?”, and she says of course she would, that she loves him and would do anything for him. Julian asks Beth why she hated his father, and she reminds them that he had taken her café away from her. Julian says he did have a hand in that, but Eve tells him he was a different man then. Beth says that they all have their reasons for wanting Alistair dead, but maybe they shouldn’t be so open with Sam. Luis asks Sheridan if she’s ok, and she says yes. He then assures her that Sam is like a bulldog and he’ll find out who poisoned her father. She tells him she knows how much he hated the man, and he says yes, he did, but he’d never start their marriage out by killing her father. Then he jokes “Maybe afterwards…” She says all she ever wanted was for her father to love her, but now she sees what a monster he is and she doesn’t really care if he dies. Luis tells her not to be that open with Sam, not to draw any attention to herself. She agrees, no undue attention. Fox tells Chad he hasn’t answered his question, then asks again if he killed his grandfather. Chad says no, then asks if he did. Fox tells him no, then Whitney says if she had gotten hold of some poison, she might have done it. Fox warns her to be careful what she says, she doesn’t want to make Sam think she might have done it. Sam loudly tells the room that someone in there is lying, and he is going to find out who.
Theresa tells Gwen she is her sworn enemy since she stole her son from her, but Gwen tells her she doesn’t care, that once the papers are filed she will never have to see her again, and she won’t let Little Ethan suffer in her custody, either. Theresa tells her he’s her son, but Gwen says not any more. The doctor comes out and asks what’s going on, that this is intensive care and then asks if they know how sick the baby’s in there are. Gwen apologizes and introduces herself, saying that she is Baby Winthrop’s mother. Theresa says no, she isn’t, that Theresa is the mother, then asks how she is. The doctor says Eve had told her about the conflict with them, and Ivy tells her they will keep them in control. Rebecca agrees, then asks her to tell them about the baby, if she’s improving. The doctor says she is the same, stable but critical, and if they keep up the ruckus her condition could get a whole lot worse. Theresa apologizes, then asks if she can go in with the baby now.
Gwen says she is Mrs.
Winthrop, the baby’s mother. Dr. Carlisle tells her that they know until the
legal papers are signed, they can only let the birth mother in. Gwen huffs up,
telling her she is the mother, but the doctor tells her she doesn’t care, she’ll
call security if she has to. Ethan tells her that’s not necessary, then Rebecca
tells her this is outrageous, that she will eat the doctor’s license for lunch,
but the doctor responds that she will have them all thrown out if they don’t
settle down, then tells Theresa to come on in to be with the baby. Gwen has a
fit and says she is not going to let that bitch take her baby away from her, but
Ethan tells her it will only be for a few more hours. Rebecca tells her daughter
that they are going to get her daughter back even if it’s over Theresa’s dead
Ivy asks Ethan what he will do if the baby turns out to be Theresa’s, whether he will keep the baby and stay with Gwen anyway.
The doctor starts to leave the emergency room, and tells the nurse to call him if anything happens, since they don’t want to take a chance on losing him. Tabitha and Endora, still under the “cloak of invisibility”, tells Endora that they need to stay there and help Alistair through, since that’s the only way they will hear him utter the one word that will destroy Sheridan and Luis as well as so many other lives in Harmony.
Sam tells the group of suspects that the hospital just called and said that Alistair is still alive, but just barely. He then tells them that if he dies, whoever tried to kill him will be charged with murder one and if they are found guilty, they could be put to death.
Previews: Sheridan to Luis: “Now, what could be an improvement upon this moment?”
Luis: “Hmmmm.” Sheridan: “Hmmmm.” Luis: Hmmmm.”
Beth: “I will stop Luis and Sheridan from getting married.”
Gwen: “Ethan is about to file the custody papers with the court, and then you are going to hand me over my baby.”
