At the hospital, EJ tells Sami that while he may not be big fan of her boyfriend, he certainly doesn’t want to cause Sami any pain. He claims that all that matters now is that they have Sydney. Sami thinks he is right about that. EJ admits that he probably shouldn’t have said anything about Rafe, and adds that if Sami insists on feeling guilty, maybe he can give her something to feel guilty about. Sami asks what he means. Just as Rafe walks over, EJ tells Sami that he wants to stay night with her. Rafe glares.

In Maggie’s kitchen, Mia calls Chad and leaves him a message, telling him that she can’t stop thinking about him and the kiss they shared. She goes on to explain that she needs to make sure he is ok with what happened. Just then, someone knocks on the door. Thinking that it may be Chad, Mia flies over to answer it. Will is outside, and he takes Mia into his arms, kissing her.

In their hotel room outside Salem, Brady gets on one knee and asks Arianna to marry him. She says no. Brady, surprised, asks if she really said no. Arianna admits she kind of did. Brady, confused, asks if that means she won’t marry him. Arianna nods, reminding him that that’s what no means.

Maggie stumbles outside the Java Cafe. She flashes back to dropping a mug in her kitchen a few days ago and panicking over not having any feeling in her hand. Maggie comes back to the present and counsels herself not to overreact, as she probably just needs to get her medication adjusted. She assures herself that she will be fine as Nathan walks over and greets her. He explains that he got her message and asks how she is doing. Maggie replies that she is fine. Nathan suggests they head into the café and talk over what she called about. Maggie agrees, asking Nathan to lead the way.

Stephanie heads into Melanie’s hospital room and asks how she is doing. Melanie glares, “How do you think I’m doing, you bitch?” Stephanie stares. Melanie snaps that she really doesn’t want to see Stephanie playing innocent, as she knows Stephanie didn’t give Nathan the letter. She then accuses Stephanie of not doing so because she wanted Nathan all to herself.

Sami surprised, asks EJ if he wants to stay the night with her. He nods, saying that he does, more than anything. Just then, Rafe walks over, asking if someone will tell him what the hell is going on here.

Nathan asks Maggie what is going in, but she says that nothing is, really. Nathan is surprised that Maggie called and asked him to meet her for nothing. Maggie admits that she shouldn’t have called, as she knows how busy Nathan is. Nathan claims that he’s actually relieved to have a distraction. Maggie wonders what’s wrong. Nathan reminds her that they came here to talk about her. Maggie says that she can tell Nathan is upset, so she’s decided to rework the agenda and let Nathan go first. She asks again what is wrong. Nathan sighs, admitting that Melanie is.

Melanie whines that Stephanie never gave Nathan that letter, so Stephanie lied to her and to Nathan. Stephanie scoffs, wondering if she is supposed to be sorry about it. Melanie glares, guessing she admits it, then. Stephanie notes sarcastically that she can see Melanie getting upset, as she has never done anything underhanded to get what she wants. Melanie retorts that she never pretended to be holier-than-thou like Stephanie. Stephanie laughs, wondering how Melanie could when she wrote a letter to her ex, begging him to take her back minutes before she was slated to marry Philip. Melanie hisses that the real reason Stephanie didn’t give Nathan that letter is because she’d do anything to get him in bed. Stephanie snorts, saying that if Melanie had half a brain in her head, she’d thank her.

Rafe again demands to know what is going on. EJ claims that Rafe took what he said the wrong way. Rafe is shocked to learn there’s a right way to take it. EJ swears that it didn’t come out the way he intended, as he just wants to be with his children. Rafe asks how Sami was supposed to get that out of EJ saying that he wanted to stay the night with her. EJ sighs, admitting that he know it’s asking a lot and knows that all three of them have been through a lot, but he just wants to watch kids go to sleep. He wants to watch them wake up and he wants to know that he can walk into Sydney’s room anytime and see her. He know Sami knows what he is talking about. She admits that she does, but isn’t so sure about him staying at her place. EJ pleads with her, saying that he just needs to know that this nightmare is over with and make sure that his little girl is with him tonight. Rafe wonders if this is all really about EJ wanting to stay the night with his kids. EJ admits that it’s disingenuous of him to imply that, as he would also like to be with Sami.

Arianna stammers. Brady thinks he gets it, as she obviously doesn’t feel that she wants to marry him, and that’s fine. Just then, Brady gets a phone call and says that he has to take it. He tells Arianna that he will be right back and heads off. Arianna gets a call just then, too. It’s Gabi, complaining about beer dripping out of the tap at the pub. Arianna tells her to find Tony and ask him to reset the pressure. Gabi thanks her and apologizes for bothering her. She asks Arianna to tell Brady that she promises not to call again. Arianna explains that Brady isn’t in the room. Gabi is surprised to hear that he went out again. She adds that she hopes that they didn’t have a fight. Arianna chuckles, saying that Brady actually asked her to marry him. Gabi squeals, but then stops, confused, asking why Brady left the room again if they just got engaged. Arianna explains it’s because she said no.

Maggie worriedly asks if Melanie has had a setback. Nathan assures her that Melanie is doing well, medically speaking. Maggie wonders how Nathan is doing. He sighs, admitting that it upset him to see Melanie lying there in that hospital bed, knowing that she almost died. Maggie sighs, guessing that Nathan isn’t over her. Nathan admits that he doesn’t think he is.

Stephanie explains that she thought about the back and forth- Melanie and Philip and Melanie and Nathan and Melanie and Philip--and Stephanie doesn’t think Melanie is torn. She thinks Melanie liked having them both chase after her, because at the end of the day, it’s all about Melanie. Melanie, astounded, remarks that Stephanie really does hate her. Stephanie sneers, saying that all she’ll say is that she isn’t losing sleep over what Melanie thinks of her.

Mia, surprised at Will’s kiss, wonders what that was all about. Will grins, saying that that’s him being happiest he’s ever been. He goes on to say that they got Sydney back and that she’s fine. Mia, elated, thinks that is amazing. Will beams, saying that she should have seen his mom’s face. He then admits that he felt like he had to tell Mia in person because she has gone through so much of this with his family. Mia thanks him, touched. Will then tells Mia that when he saw Sydney, he thought to himself that he had to tell Mia right away. Will thinks that means he thinks that Mia is the most important person in the world. Will moves in for a kiss.

EJ tells Sami that she knows what he is going through and that no one knows better than him what she is going through. Rafe scoffs, asking if EJ plans on taking care of Sami now. Sami sighs, asking EJ to give them a second to talk. EJ agrees, and Rafe explains that now would be as good a time as any for EJ to give his statement to Agent Clark. EJ is amenable to that, and Rafe eyes him slyly, remarking that there is so much that happened that they know nothing about. EJ remarks that they know Sydney is alive and well. He adds coldly that even if Rafe had had all of the information, he couldn’t have found her. Sami sighs, begging EJ to let this go. EJ retorts that he doesn’t know if that is possible. He then huffs off. Sami then tells Rafe that she didn’t want to say anything in front of EJ, but she just wants Rafe to spend the evening with her and kids. Rafe admits that he wants nothing more than that. Sami is glad to hear it, as that is what she wants, too, but he heard EJ--he’s hurting, and Sydney is his daughter. Sami adds that she wants a fresh start between her and EJ with Sydney and she doesn’t think she and Rafe have a choice. They have to include EJ, and Sami wants to make sure that is ok with Rafe.

Brady returns and he and Arianna exchange uncomfortable hellos. Arianna lamely asks if he got everything figured out with the phone call. Brady remarks that it was very productive. Brady then sighs, saying that he doesn’t think this is working--trying to pretend what happened didn’t happen. He apologizes for not being so good at it. Arianna then admits that she isn’t good at saying how she feels, so she is going to show Brady. Arianna moves in for a kiss.

Maggie tells Nathan that she is going to do what many grandmothers do and state the obvious--Melanie is married. Nathan sighs, saying that he knows that. Maggie then warns him that pining after someone who in love with someone else is what is known as long-term time-release pain. Nathan confides in Maggie that he isn’t so sure that Melanie loves Philip. Maggie doesn’t think Nathan has any reason to think that, but Nathan claims he does. He then tells Maggie that Melanie wrote him a letter.

Stephanie tells Melanie that part of the reason she doesn’t care what Melanie thinks about her is that she is talking to the same person who not that many months ago was doing her fiancé in a hotel room. Melanie snaps that Stephanie and Philip weren’t together, but Stephanie shrieks that they were on a break. She wonders angrily if Melanie really thought that Philip was fair game. Melanie doesn’t answer. Stephanie snaps that if that’s the way Melanie operates, then she doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to her and Nathan because she is married. Melanie retorts that Nathan has a right to know about the letter. Stephanie scoffs, saying that Philip does, too. She then snaps that if Melanie had any class, she would have told Philip she couldn’t marry him instead of writing that letter--but she doubts Melanie has any class at all.

Rafe and Agent Clark question EJ about the notes he received from the kidnappers. EJ admits that he received a series of letters , and then was given a website address. There, he and Sami saw a video of Sydney. Afterwards, a ransom message scrolled across the bottom. Rafe asks if EJ can show the video to him. EJ shrugs, saying that he doesn’t see why not. The other agent is surprised that EJ decided to keep this information to himself. EJ explains that he and Sami felt that given the circumstances, keeping quiet and paying the ransom would be for best. The woman asks if he received the first call earlier in the afternoon. EJ nods. Rafe asks when he heard from the kidnappers next. EJ stammers, thinking, and says that the next time they called, they said the whole thing was a hoax. Rafe asks if EJ called Sami afterwards to tell her that. EJ admits he did. Rafe asks if he told Sami that Sydney dead. EJ again admits that he did so. Rafe then asks when it was that EJ received the third call, the one where he found out the second call was misleading, and that Sydney was still alive. EJ says that it was a couple of hours later. He explains that the kidnapper told him that this was his last chance, and that it was imperative that he not get the authorities involved. Rafe wonders why the kidnappers bothered to call EJ to tell him that it was a hoax when they intended on returning Sydney. EJ shrugs, guessing they wanted to make him and Sami feel vulnerable. Rafe finds this all very interesting, and says that he thinks when they found out what was going on when the kidnappers called EJ to tell him it was all a hoax, they’ll then know who was behind this.

Brady pulls away from Arianna, asking her what this is all about. Arianna thinks it’s pretty clear, but Brady doesn’t agree. Arianna sighs, saying that just because she isn’t ready to marry him doesn’t mean that she doesn’t want to be with him. Brady wonders if that kiss was just his consolation prize.

Melanie angrily shouts that that isn’t true. Stephanie scoffs that what bothers Melanie most is that she isn’t a moron and can see right through her. Melanie shrieks that at least she was honest about who she is. Stephanie chuckles, reminding Melanie that she is married to a guy who has no idea that she was thinking of Nathan on her wedding day. Stephanie then suggests that she make copies of the letter and show it to both Nathan and Philip. Melanie cries that she doesn’t want to hurt Philip. Stephanie sneers, guessing that she must have signed a prenuptial agreement. Melanie sobs that Stephanie is a bitch. Stephanie ignores the comment, warning Melanie that she can blow her marriage right out of the water.

Maggie’s hands shake and she nearly upsets her coffee. She takes a deep breath and recovers her composure, asking Nathan what the letter said. Nathan then admits that he didn’t read it. Maggie wonders how he can know that Melanie in love with him, then. Nathan explains that Melanie told him about the letter, and that she got upset when she learned he didn’t get it. Nathan thinks she must have written it right before the wedding, since he saw her the night before she got married and she didn’t mention it. Maggie shakes her head, but Nathan thinks Melanie was reaching out to him. Maggie patiently explains that she watched Melanie marry Philip, so she clearly made her choice. Nathan replies that that is why he should have stopped the wedding when he had the chance. Maggie groans.

EJ tells Rafe that he doesn’t think he gets it. He snaps that his daughter is alive, safe and healthy, and all Rafe is concerned about is an arrest and proving his record. Rafe smirks, asking EJ if he really doesn’t care that the person that put him through hell--the person that made him tell mother of his child that their baby was dead--is walking around free. EJ replies that the hell is over unless Rafe insists on prolonging it. Rafe asks EJ if he really doesn’t care that this person could do this to someone else. EJ doesn’t think that will happen. Rafe wonders what insight into the kidnappers EJ could have that he doesn’t have. EJ asks Rafe pointedly if he has any more pertinent questions. Rafe admits he doesn’t, as EJ has given him plenty to go on.. EJ forces a smile and excuses himself to go find Sydney. Rafe snorts, saying that if EJ doesn’t care about finding the kidnapper, that’s fine--at least he still does.

Sami sighs, telling Abe that she knows he sees things the way Rafe does, but they went to the FBI the first time, and didn’t get Sydney back, so they had to listen to kidnappers this time. Abe soothes Sami, telling her it’s alright. He then excuses himself to speak with Agent Clark. Rafe heads over and tells Sami gently that he knows how hard it must have been for her to keep things inside. Sami looks at him questioningly, and Rafe explains that EJ told him about the video and the hoax phone call. Sami wonders if that means that Rafe forgives her. Rafe again claims that all that matters is that Sydney is home safe. Sami tearfully tells him that she hated keeping him in the dark. Rafe assures her that it’s all water under the bridge and asks Sami to let it go. Sami scoffs. Rafe again asks her to forget about it. Sami agrees to do so. Rafe then asks Sami for her laptop so that they can examine the video of Sydney for clues. Sami readily agrees, and Rafe vows that he won’t stop searching until he finds the person that did this. Sami says she knows that and thanks Rafe, telling him how glad she is, as she knows she can spend her time focusing on Sydney. Just then, EJ brings the baby back. Lexie follows. Sami greets her and takes her into her arms, assuring Sydney that she is home and that she is never going anywhere again. Sami sighs, announcing that the nightmare is finally over.

Maggie asks Nathan in surprise if he really considered stopping Melanie and Philip’s wedding. Nathan admits that he was there, and that Chloe talked him out of stopping the ceremony. Maggie thanks God she did. Nathan wonders if she is angry. Maggie groans, admitting that she has had enough drama this past month to last a lifetime. Nathan tells her how sorry he is. Maggie thinks that he’s clearly done a lot of thinking about Melanie and himself, but she has to wonder if Nathan has given any thought to Philip or Stephanie.

Melanie admits that Stephanie is right, and that she could really screw her over, but she would hurt Philip in the process. Stephanie scoffs, saying sarcastically that Philip is clearly Melanie’s first priority. Melanie switches tactics, asking Stephanie how she thinks Nathan will feel when he finds out that he didn’t get the letter because of her. Stephanie claims that when she went to give Nathan the letter, all he could talk about was how excited he was for them to go away together. Stephanie then snaps that Melanie made her choice, and Nathan made his--and he chose her, not Melanie.

EJ simpers, telling Rafe that he hopes he didn’t give the impression earlier that he wouldn’t cooperate. He claims that he was just upset. Rafe says that he understands. EJ then asks Lexie and Abe for word in private and the two head off. EJ reminds Sami that she never gave him an answer regarding him spending the night with her. Rafe claims that if that is what Sami wants then it is fine by him. Sami nods. EJ remarks that Rafe allowing him to stay is wonderful news. Rafe coldly reminds EJ that he may have some more questions for him regarding the kidnapping. EJ glares and excuses himself to say goodbye to his sister. Rafe apologizes, admitting that he shouldn’t have said anything to EJ. Sami sighs, saying that she knows this isn’t how he pictured his evening. Rafe remarks sarcastically that they’ll all be one big happy family.

Lexie asks EJ if he is really staying the night at Sami’s. EJ nods. Lexie thinks that Rafe must be thrilled. EJ loftily declares that he thinks Sami just wants him to be able to spend some time with the kids. Lexie wonders if this has anything to do with Sami. EJ claims it doesn’t and says goodnight to Lexie. Lexie smirks, telling EJ to keep telling himself that.

Arianna tells Brady that when she gets married, she wants to be sure that it is going to last forever. She talks about couples celebrating golden anniversaries in the paper, and claims that fifty year mark isn’t just about how much you love each other-- because she is sure she loves Brady enough to marry him. She then says that she just isn’t sure she is grown up enough to accept. Brady groans, telling Arianna that she ticks him off because he likes her even more for turning down his proposal, and that isn’t fair. She guesses he understands why she said no. Brady says he does, and that he even agrees with her, but he reserves the right to make future proposals. Arianna grins, hoping he does. He grins too, wondering if she knows how long it might take him to grow up. He thinks it might take long time. Arianna says she knows how they can pass the time. She kisses him.

Nathan claims that he really likes Stephanie, and that they had a wonderful time at the ski resort, but this letter thing is throwing everything off. Maggie suggests he do himself a favor and move on the way Melanie did. Just then, Nathan gets a page. He groans. Maggie tells him to go. Nathan reminds her that they came here to talk about her and they ended up talking about him. Maggie thinks that’s as should be and again asks Nathan to go. Nathan thanks her, telling her how lucky he is to have her in his life. He heads off telling Maggie that he loves her. She says that she loves him, too.

Melanie scoffs, asking Stephanie if she really thinks Nathan chose her. She sneers, asking if Stephanie knows how to spell rebound. Stephanie replies that she and Nathan were planning that trip for a while, and were forced to postpone because she had to be in Melanie’s wedding. Melanie is taken aback. Stephanie adds nastily that she Nathan kept their trip a secret because they knew how Melanie felt. Melanie doesn’t buy it, and asks Stephanie if Nathan was just trying to throw her off the trial when he told her he wanted her the night before the wedding. Melanie giggles. Stephanie angrily tells Melanie to spin it however she wants, but at the end of the day, she is still Mrs. Philip Kiriakis. Stephanie wonders if Melanie really wants to hurt the guy that has done everything for her. Melanie doesn’t reply. Stephanie scoffs, telling Melanie to go ahead, as at least then the whole world will find out what kind of person Melanie really is.

Back at Sami’s place, Rafe heads out of the bedroom and tells Sami that the twins are already asleep. Sami chuckles, saying that she thinks Sydney will want to stay up and watch the late movie with them. Just then, someone knocks on the door. Sami thinks that it’s probably EJ and says that she hopes this isn’t too horrible for Rafe. Rafe admits it’s a weird situation as Sami answers the door. EJ heads in as Rafe puts his coat on. Sami asks what he is doing. Rafe reminds her that he has to get her laptop examined. Sami is surprised he is doing it now. Rafe nods, saying that he is already days behind in catching the kidnapper, and he has to make up for lost time. He leans over and kisses Sydney before he goes, welcoming her home. EJ rolls his eyes as Rafe heads off. EJ, concerned, asks if Sami is ok. Sami admits she is, though everything is a big mess.

Outside the Java Café, Will presents Mia with a St. Christopher medal, explaining that he is the patron saint of travelers. Mia has heard that, and tells Will that surfers carry them for protection. Will then explains that the medal means something else, though.

Maggie heads into her kitchen and calls out for Mia. No one answers. Maggie suddenly gets dizzy and passes out, collapsing onto the kitchen floor.

Nathan walks along the pier. He flashes back to Melanie dropping her purse, and how the two kissed while gathering the contents. Nathan comes back to the present, telling himself that he has to know what was in that letter. He decides that he must talk to Melanie.

Stephanie angrily asks Melanie if this is that what she wants to do to Philip--the guy that has done everything for her and the guy that has been through so much. Stephanie asks again if Melanie really wants to blow his world apart. Melanie shakes her head sadly. Stephanie suggests that Melanie stay away from Nathan, then. Just then, Melanie’s phone rings. Stephanie guesses that that is Philip, calling to wish her a good night. Melanie nods. Stephanie says that she will leave Melanie to talk to her husband then. She heads off. Melanie tearfully answers her phone.

EJ guesses that Rafe isn’t taking him staying the night here so well. Sami snaps back that EJ probably doesn’t think that Rafe has a leg to stand on. EJ admits that he finds the man to be a tad egocentric. Sami retorts that she doesn’t need EJ’s opinion, and that she’d appreciate it if he stopped being so obnoxious and snippy when it comes to Rafe. EJ chuckles. Sami shouts that it isn’t funny. EJ smiles, saying that he didn’t just get Sydney back tonight-- he got Sami back, too. Sami nods, saying she is back. She then warns EJ not to forget it.

At the police station, Rafe tells Agent Clark that he wants to find out everything he can about the video link the kidnappers sent, as he is sure that one way or another, they left their signature on it. Clark asks if Rafe needs anything else. Rafe nods and flashes back to EJ telling the two about the second call claiming that the ransom note was a hoax. Rafe comes back to the present and asks Clark to pull the records on EJ’s incoming and outgoing phone calls for the past few days.

Will admits to Mia that by giving her this medal, he was kind of hoping that it would mean that he and Mia are an exclusive couple. Mia seems less than thrilled, but Will hugs her ecstatically, not picking up on her signals. Will tells Mia that this is the best night ever. Mia rolls her eyes.

Maggie struggles to get off of the floor and into a chair. She sighs heavily.

At the pier, Stephanie tells herself that Nathan has to hear this from her.

Melanie tearfully tells Philip that she will talk to him in the morning. He says something and she smiles wanly, admitting that they are like old married couple. She tells him she loves him and then hangs up. She tells herself that Stephanie is right, and that she can’t hurt Philip. Melanie closes her eyes. Just then, Nathan walks over and stares at Melanie through her room’s window. Just then, his phone rings. It’s Stephanie, telling him that they need to talk. Nathan agrees that they do.

Agent Clark comes back with EJ’s cell phone records. Rafe looks through them and finds the phone call EJ made to Sami, telling her that Sydney was dead. Rafe explains to Clark that he was there when Sami received that call, so he can pinpoint the time. He thinks the kidnapper must have called right before then, and rifles through the list, saying that they are closing in on the sucker.

EJ comes out of the bedroom to tell Sami that the twins are finally back to sleep, but he finds Sami asleep with Sydney in her arms. EJ smiles and covers the two with a blanket. He then sits on the couch and watches them.

Nicole tells a prison inmate, “I still am a DiMera... more of a DiMera than they know.”

Melanie asks Arianna, “What! Why did you do that?”

Rafe says, “I think this was set up to hurt Sami.”
