Justin runs into Hope, who is leaving the Java Café. She explains that she’s bringing Ciara some hot chocolate, as they were supposed to decorate their tree with Bo, but things fell through. Justin asks what happened and Hope says that Carly did. Justin, confused, says he thought she moved out. Hope says she did too, but her guess is that Carly is moving back in even as they speak.

At Bo and Hope’s place, Carly tells Bo that he was right once again, and that she rushed things by trying to move in to Maggie’s. Bo reminds her that she just wanted to be close to her daughter. Cary sighs, saying that the problem is that she thinks her daughter hates her.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Victor asks Vivian if she plans on making Carly suffer through some long and drawn-out revenge. Vivian nods, admitting she can’t do it alone, and asks Victor if he wants to help her. Victor says he would enjoy watching, and even helping if he can, but he wants to know how Vivian plans to make this happen. She pulls out the letter Gus gave her from Lawrence’s safe-deposit box, explaining that she wants to show Victor something.

At the hospital in Cleveland, Rafe rushes into Nicole’s room to find her gone, and the door near her bed wide open. Rafe curses and rushes back outside, asking the guard if Nicole was taken somewhere for testing. The guard doesn’t think so. Rafe announces that she is gone. EJ rushes over, asking what he means by that, since Nicole could barely focus earlier. Rafe repeats that she is gone. EJ demands to know how she could have gotten past he guard. Rafe rushes back into Nicole’s room and checks the room adjoining Nicole’s. He groans.

Nicole lets herself into a storage room and flicks the light on, moaning that she has to find Sydney. She wanders around and comes across some scrubs on a shelf. She takes them, and then notices a jacket in the corner. Nicole picks that up, too.

At a pier near the hospital, Roman and Brady speak to the Commander of the police in Cleveland, Peter Hogan. Brady is frustrated that all of the leads have gone cold. He asks about the stakeout on Fay’s place, but Roman assures Brady that Hogan will let them know as soon as he knows anything. The man assures them he will, and asks the two to keep their phones on. They agree, and he heads off. Roman sighs, glad that Sami wasn’t around to hear that. Brady asks how she is holding up. Roman explains that he got her a hotel room near the hospital, so hopefully she went back there to get some rest. Brady sighs, wondering how he could have been so stupid. Roman reminds him that he had no idea Nicole switched those babies, and that he needs to focus on what he can do right now. Roman suggests he try talking to Nicole again. Brady agrees to do so, hoping that the drugs have worn off, and that she’s more coherent. Arianna walks over behind them and listens in as Roman admits to Brady that he isn’t sure if he believes that Nicole is hiding the baby, or if she really is clueless. Brady replies that judging from the head injury and how upset she was, he thinks she’s telling the truth, and that she can’t be responsible for this. Arianna stares in surprise.

Rafe angrily shows the guard that the door to the room adjoining Nicole’s is open. The guard insists that it was locked, but Rafe picks a hairpin off of the floor and brandishes it, saying that the lock was simple enough for anyone to pick. Rafe then declares that Nicole knows where Sydney is, and that this hospital must be locked down. He insists that no one can leave until every floor has been searched.

Nicole, now changed into the scrubs and coat, finds a pair of scissors and cuts off her medical bracelet. She starts to put the scissors back, then decides she might need them. She slips them into her coat pocket and turns the lights off in the storage room, preparing to sneak off.

Roman gets a call about a person of interest down at the bus station. He tells the person on the other line that he is on his way and hangs up, telling Brady ruefully that it is probably a dead-end, but he has to go check it out. Brady agrees to meet him back at the hospital. Roman reminds him again to forget about what happened before and to focus on what he can do now. Brady agrees to do so, and Roman heads off. Arianna walks over just then. Brady asks what she is doing here. Arianna starts to explain that she came down here to help Sami, then stops, saying that that isn’t true. While she does want to do everything she can to help find Sydney, the real reason she came here was for Brady. Brady confused, thought that she told him that he was out of her life for good. Arianna sighs, saying she just wants to understand what happened. She reminds him that he told her he loved her, but he also said he couldn’t get Nicole out of his heart. She wonders what she is supposed to do with that, frankly admitting that she can’t live with it.

Rafe tells EJ that there is no sign of Nicole in the hospital thus far, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t here. He rushes off again. EJ, frustrated, smirks at the guard, asking if this is the best Cleveland has to offer. The man gulps, telling EJ that the door he guarded has been closed this whole time, and he was informed that the other door was locked. EJ snaps at him to stop groveling, admitting that he isn’t the first man Nicole has taken advantage of. EJ wonders aloud if Nicole knows where his daughter is.

Rafe finds the storage room Nicole changed in. He finds her gown in a garbage can, but can’t be sure it doesn’t belong to another patient. Rafe then finds her ID bracelet. Rafe groans, saying to himself that Nicole did it—she really got away.

Nicole arrives at the bus station.

Hope admits to Justin that Carly told her that she was moving into the Salem Inn, but Hope doesn’t trust her with the time of day, let alone with anything else. Justin tells Hope to come on, but she says she is serious, and that everything seems to be one big secret when it comes to Carly. She adds that Carly was trying to rent a room at her Aunt Maggie’s place, and never even said a word to her. Justin asks why she would. Hope reminds him that Maggie is family, but Justin replies that Hope doesn’t have the power to veto the move, so it doesn’t matter. Hope thanks God someone else did, and tells Justin about her conversation with Mia, and how she didn’t want Carly to move in either. Justin asks why not. Hope isn’t sure, as Mia wasn’t that specific, but the bottom line is that Mia doesn’t trust Carly. Hope adds that she thinks the girl has good instincts. Justin admits that Carly does come with a lot of baggage, but it’s not as if he and Hope don’t. Hope ignores the comment, telling Justin that she thinks her gut reaction as to why Carly really came back to town may have been right. Hope then admits that she thinks it had nothing to do with a big secret—Carly just came back to town to take her husband.

Carly tells Bo that she wasn’t sure what she expected, but she certainly didn’t expect her daughter to be so hostile. Bo thinks that must have hurt. Carly admits it did, and that the other girl not wanting her around didn’t help either. Bo thinks things would have been different if her daughter knew what she went through to protect her. Carly sighs, telling Bo that she can never know, as Lawrence became more and more obsessed with the fact that she betrayed him, and he would have done anything to make sure her child was dead. Bo asks if she is sure he never said anything to Vivian about it. Carly nods, saying that Lawrence was mortified by her affair, and he didn’t want anyone to know about it, especially Vivian. Carly believes that she will be able to keep her secret, and make sure that Vivian never finds out about her daughter.

Vivian explains that the letter was one that Lawrence wrote before he died. Victor asks who it was addressed to, but Vivian decides to let him guess. She reads the letter aloud. Lawrence obviously wrote it to Carly, and in it, he tells her that what she has done will never be forgiven, and that she’ll never escape punishment for the shame she has brought on him. He finishes it by saying that the proof of her sins will be destroyed. Victor asks if that is all. Vivian thinks Lawrence was unable to finish the letter. Victor assumes Carly must have had an affair. Vivian agrees, and tells Victor that the things Carly did after the murder makes her wonder if the man Carly betrayed Lawrence with was Bo.

Rafe tells EJ and Commander Hogan that he found Nicole’s ID bracelet. He adds that he found her gown in a trash can, and guesses she is wearing someone else’s clothes right about now. Just then, an officer rushes over, telling the group that an employee has just reported a stolen parka. Hogan thanks him, telling Rafe that he guesses they now know what Nicole is wearing. EJ groans. Rafe asks EJ not to say anything about this to Sami yet, and rushes off. EJ orders Hogan to set up a two-mile perimeter around the hospital, since Nicole is most likely on foot. EJ then demands that Hogan find his daughter.

Nicole sits in the waiting room of the bus station. She finds some coins in the pocket of the jacket she took, and she makes a call at a pay phone, hoping her mother can help her. She gets Fay’s voicemail and hangs up. Nicole then remembers that this was the exact place Sydney was taken. She flashes back to phoning Sami as Sydney sits in her stroller nearby. Nicole comes back to the present and weeps, sobbing that she has to find Sydney.

Justin tells Hope that he thinks she is wrong, and that there is some dangerous secret that Carly is keeping, considering that she came to town fleeing a murder charge. Hope reminds Justin that that is all over with, and Carly still won’t say what she is hiding. Justin suggests they be constructive, and wonders if Hope has a way to resolve this. She tells Justin that she plans on finding out Carly’s secret. She grins. Justin worriedly asks what will do once she finds out.

Carly doesn’t think Bo can know what it feels like for her, knowing her daughter is right there, but not being able to share or know anything about her life. Bo wonders if she really thinks being in the same house would have been enough. Carly admits that was all she could hope for. She adds that she isn’t sure she will ever be able to tell her daughter the truth, because she knows Vivian would carry out Lawrence’s wishes if she knew what he wanted to do. Bo thinks there is only one solution to this problem—eliminate Vivian.

Vivian moans that her poor Lawrence died of a broken heart and so he lashed out at Carly like a wounded animal. Victor reminds Vivian that women betray men every day, and that something else happened here—something that made Carly have to kill Lawrence to keep him from getting revenge. Vivian says she’d like to know what drove her nephew over the edge. Victor agrees that that is what they have to find out, and adds that if she is right, and Bo is involved, then the sooner Carly is out of his life, the better.

Roman brings Fay into the hospital and introduces her to EJ, saying that they may get some answers now. EJ declares that she is the one that took his daughter and glares, demanding to know where Sydney is.

Nicole tries to call Fay again, but gets her voicemail. Disappointed, she heads back into the waiting room. Rafe is there, waiting, and he grabs Nicole’s arm. She gasps.

Carly tells Bo that even if he is the police commissioner, he can’t make decisions like that. Bo chuckles, saying he didn’t mean that they should kill Vivian, just that they should eliminate her as a threat. He adds that he thinks they need to come up with something they can use as leverage. Carly asks what they could use. Bo isn’t sure yet, but it has to be something they can pin Vivian down with so that she can’t hurt Carly or her daughter. Carly thinks that sounds nice, but isn’t sure it will work. Bo reminds her that a woman like Vivian probably has a lot of skeletons in her closet. Carly sighs, saying that she appreciates Bo’s optimism, but she is a lot more cynical. She says that she thinks it’s going to be a long time before anyone can know about her daughter—if ever.

Victor tells Vivian that they need to set a trap for Vivian—that way she’ll walk right into their arms without blinking an eye. Vivian claps her hands, saying that Kate may have given her the perfect set-up. She tells Victor that Kate accused her of being back in town because she had her sights set on him. She thinks that is the perfect way to fool Carly—convince everyone in town that she isn’t here because of Lawrence’s murder, but because she and Victor are madly in love. Victor raises an eyebrow.

Brady says that he is just trying to be honest with Arianna. She snaps that she doesn’t get it, as it isn’t as if Nicole is this wonderful person—she’s totally screwed-up. Brady says that he understands that Nicole has had a negative influence on his life. Arianna practically spits in anger, asking if he realizes that Nicole only wants him around when she needs money. Brady says that isn’t true, and that Nicole has needed a lot more from him than just money. Arianna shouts that she needed him to help her with her lies and schemes, and help to keep Sydney away from Sami. Brady says sullenly that he didn’t know that Sydney was Sami’s daughter. Arianna knows he didn’t then, but he knows the whole ugly truth now, and yet he still wants to help Nicole. Brady admits that it’s because Nicole is alone and desperate, on top of the fact that she really has had a tragic life. Arianna accuses Brady of being addicted to Nicole, and claims that she is like a drug to him. Brady scoffs.

Fay swears she doesn’t know where Sydney is. Roman suggests that now is the time for Fay to come clean. EJ snaps at her that the police already know Fay met Nicole at a hotel. She swears she hasn’t seen Nicole since then. Roman asks her what Nicole’s plans were the last time she saw her. Fay explains that Nicole was planning on taking the baby to Canada. Roman says that that never happened, as Nicole was knocked out cold and brought to the hospital. Fay, in a panic, asks where Nicole is. EJ thinks she knows full well that Nicole has escaped. Fay asks worriedly where the baby is. EJ says that that is a good question—one that he would like her to answer. Fay claims she has no idea, and that the last time she saw Nicole and Sydney, Nicole was heading to Canada. Roman tells her that when the police stopped her, they found two tickets to Canada, a black wig, and some baby clothes in her car, as well as a doll that could possibly pass for Sydney at a distance. Fay flashes back to promising to do anything to keep EJ from hurting Nicole or Sydney. She comes back to the present as EJ angrily tells her that the next words coming out of her mouth had better be the truth.

Nicole struggles, but Rafe tells her she isn’t going anywhere. He asks where Sydney is. Nicole tearfully replies that she doesn’t know, and that she left the hospital to find her. She looks around the room in a daze. Rafe shakes her, asking her to focus on him. He asks her again where Sydney is. Nicole replies that they hit her over the back of the head and she heard Sydney crying, but she couldn’t get up. She sobs, wondering if Sydney is out there somewhere, crying and hungry. Rafe demands to know what she is talking about, asking if Nicole really doesn’t know where Sydney is. She doesn’t answer and just cries hysterically. Rafe groans, saying that Sydney could be anywhere, and that she could even be dead. Nicole pummels Rafe’s chest angrily, screaming at him not to say that about Sydney. She weeps miserably as Rafe fends her off.

Bo and Carly get the Christmas tree up and in its stand. Bo thinks it was worth the wait, and Carly agrees. Carly then says that she thinks he ought to call Hope and Ciara so they can come decorate it. Bo says he will send them a text, but he is pretty sure Hope is probably putting Ciara to bed, and considering what happened earlier, they’ll probably wait until tomorrow to come by. Carly asks what that has to do with her, and Bo explains that it means that she can spend the night. Carly says she can’t, as she has already ruined his Christmas enough as it is. She tells Bo that he has the chance to make up for what happened, and insist that Ciara and Hope come over to decorate the tee. She knows Ciara would love to come and help, even if she is going to bed. Bo says he would like them to come over, too, but there’s no rush, as Christmas isn’t for a couple of weeks yet. Carly asks him what the date is, then stops, embarrassed. He asks what is going on, and Carly reminds him that today is the day that they were married, so many years ago.

Back at the Kiriakis mansion, Justin says that he appreciates that Hope is confiding in him, but he reminds her that finding out Carly’s secret might be dangerous. Hope vows to find out what she needs to know. She isn’t sure how she will do it, but she’ll find a way—without letting Bo know what she is up to, as he would kill her. Justin thinks going behind Bo’s back is reason enough not to do this. Hope reminds Justin that he is the one that keeps telling her that she and Bo need to find a way to work things out. She insists that they can’t do that as long as Carly is in the picture. She adds that she needs to find out Carly’s secret in order to get her out of the way. Justin sighs. Hope heads off to heat up Ciara’s hot chocolate. Justin goes through some bills and letters on the desk and finds a card addressed to him. He opens it and chuckles.

Roman tells EJ that he thinks Nicole knew she was going to get caught. The wig was to make Fay look more like Nicole to ease Sydney’s transition. Then Nicole planned to come back and get the baby once she got out of jail. Fay asks what he is talking about. Roman tells her that this is her last chance, and asks her where she is hiding the baby. Fay refuses to say another word until Roman tells her why her daughter would have to go to prison.

Nicole shouts at Rafe to never again say that Sydney is dead. Rafe says they have no way of knowing if she is or isn’t, but Nicole sobs that she knows she isn’t dead. Rafe shakes her, telling her if she really cares about Sydney, then she has to tell him where the baby is. Nicole shrieks that she has told everyone already that she doesn’t know where she is. She claims that she changed her mind about taking Sydney, and tried to call Sami, since she now knows that Sydney belongs to her. Rafe scoffs, saying it is hard to believe that someone knocked Nicole out and took the baby. He decides to just let the cops take care of Nicole. He takes out his phone, but Nicole whips out the scissors she took from the hospital. She waves them in Rafe’s face, warning him to stay away from her.

Hope comes back in and sees Justin reading the letter he opened. She asks if it’s bad news, but he tells her it’s actually Christmas letters from his family with pictures. Hope thinks Christmas can be rough when you’re cut off from your family. Justin thinks she would know all about that except she isn’t cut off from her family—she’s just rooting around for information on Carly. Hope asks why Justin is suddenly mad at her, and he admits that he’s mad and sad because he can’t see why she and Bo can’t get back together, especially now around the holidays. Hope grumps that her husband must not be too sad about it, or he’d open up to her as to why his old friend is really back in Salem. Justin sighs. Hope tells him that she needs his support right now and all she feels like all she is getting is criticism. She says that he is acting as if she is the one at fault when Carly is the one that is screwing everything up. She snaps at Justin that it was Carly who talked her husband into not trusting her. She curses Carly, vowing to find out her secret and throw it back in her face.

Carly apologizes for bringing up the past, but Bo reminds her that it was an important time for both of them. Carly smiles, saying that if it was, he wouldn’t have forgotten the date. Bo says he didn’t forget, and that he just thought better of bringing it up. Carly reminds him that it wasn’t a real wedding ceremony anyway, and that it was just symbolic. Bo chuckles, admitting it was a hell of a ceremony. Carly flashes back to reading her vows to Bo at their Mayan wedding, and promising that only good things will come for both of them in the future.

Fay demands to know why Nicole would go to jail when her abusive husband is walking around free. Roman says he knows Fay wants to make up for what happened to Nicole when she was young, but now isn’t the time. Fay shouts that she is talking about EJ physically abusing Nicole, and how Nicole ran to escape from him. Fay claims she is glad Nicole took her granddaughter with her. EJ glares. Roman thinks Fay must not know, and explains that Sydney isn’t her granddaughter. Fay scoffs, saying that of course she is. EJ insists she isn’t, and that Fay’s daughter stole Sydney from her real mother, Sami, and then tried to pass the baby off as her own. Fay gapes.

Brady tells Arianna that the idea that he is addicted to Nicole is ridiculous, but she doesn’t think so, since he knows Nicole has a negative impact on him, yet he still can’t seem to walk away. Brady sighs, saying that he gets her point as his phone rings. It’s the police. Brady answers, listens, then thanks the person for calling and hangs up. Arianna asks what happened, and Brady tells her that Nicole has escaped from the hospital. Arianna wonders how that could happen, since she thought Nicole was under arrest. Brady says he thought she was, too. Arianna asks worriedly if he can think of someplace here in Cleveland that Nicole might hide. Brady tells her he has an idea and rushes off. Arianna hurries after him.

Rafe struggles with Nicole, gets the scissors, and throws them to the side. He gets Nicole into a choke hold and hisses that she has used up her last chance. He tells her to tell him where Sydney is; otherwise, she’s going to end up in a world of hurt.

Victor heads into the living room, telling Vivian that he’ll have her things sent over by Henderson. Vivian thanks Victor, telling him that being here with him brings back a lot of nice memories. Hope, now alone in the living room, interrupts the two, asking if Vivian is back for good. Vivian greets Hope, and Victor explains that Vivian is going to be his guest here. He hopes she doesn’t have a problem with that. Hope, surprised, stammers that it’s no problem and that in fact, she thinks it’s a great idea.

Carly tells Bo that she really has to go, but he wishes she wouldn’t, as he feels she would be safer here. Carly sighs, telling him she just wishes that he and Hope and Ciara would get back together again before Christmas. Bo sighs and nods, admitting that he just doesn’t understand Hope at all. Carly tries to reassure him, telling him that there’s a chance--there always is when two people love each other the way he and Hope do. She strokes his face, telling him to never give up. Outside, Justin grumbles to himself, wondering why he has to be the one to tell Bo. He starts to knock, and sees Carly stroking Bo’s cheek through the glass. Justin gapes.

EJ tells Fay the whole sordid story of how Nicole had a miscarriage, arranged to adopt a child named Grace, then switched her and Sydney at birth. Later, Grace died, and Nicole watched while he and Sami grieved for a child that wasn’t theirs. Roman then explains that Nicole was arrested, but she skipped bail and kidnapped Sydney, then came to Cleveland and called Fay. Fay stands there, stunned. EJ explains angrily that her daughter has stolen his child a second time, so if she has any compassion left, she’ll tell him where his daughter is. Roman adds that Fay can’t make up for what happened to Nicole, but she can help that baby. He urges her to do the right thing, and tell them where Sydney is.

Rafe screams and shakes Nicole, calling her a selfish bitch and threatening her that if she doesn’t tell him where Sydney is, it will be the last thing she ever does. Just then, Brady swoops in with Arianna at his heels. Brady forces Rafe off of Nicole, shouting that she doesn’t know anything. Rafe scoffs. Brady warns Rafe not to hurt Nicole. He stands over her protectively as Nicole gasps for air. Arianna looks on in shock.
