At Bo and Hope’s place, Vivian tells Carly that they shouldn’t let past differences come between them. Since they have both lost Lawrence, they need to try to get through this together. Carly tells Vivian to get the hell out of there before she calls Bo. Vivian grabs Carly’s hand, reminding her what a terrible tragedy this all is, especially as Carly was Lawrence’s wife. Vivian grins, saying she isn’t sure how Carly gets through each day.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Hope tells Justin that she doesn’t blame Carly for her problems with Bo. Justin reminds Hope that Carly isn’t helping the situation, but she sighs, saying Bo is in that mode of protecting Carly, because he sees her as a damsel in distress. Justin asks if she is ok, but She admits he isn’t. Justin hugs her, promising that he will always be there for her. Bo walks in just then and scoffs, asking Hope if she feels better knowing that her boy Justin will always be there for her.

At the pub, Mia claims that Chloe is lying and demands to know why she would say something so awful. Maggie tries to reassure her as Mia sobs that it can’t be true the babies were switched. Maggie gapes as Mia bawls that Sydney is hers. Maggie assures her Sydney is hers and asks Chloe to confirm it. Chloe stares like a deer stuck in headlights. Maggie gasps. Mia collapses into her arms, bawling that Grace can’t be her baby. Maggie holds her as Mia shrieks that her baby is dead.

At the pier, Nicole is arrested and read her rights as she pleads with EJ. EJ warns her to keep quiet, as he will strangle her if he has to hear any more of her lies. Sami and Rafe walk over with Sydney just then. Nicole cries out for her baby. Rafe heads a few feet away to give EJ and Sami a moment alone with their daughter. EJ warns the cops to keep Nicole away and heads over, saying wonderingly that Sydney is his daughter. Sami corrects him, saying she is theirs. EJ sighs, saying that he should have known. He loved his daughter, then threw her out of the house without a second thought, even though Sami tried to talk him out of it. Sami assures him that she didn’t know what was going on then. EJ says she may not have known the facts, but she knew the truth. Sami assures him that Sydney understands, and that there is no way EJ could have known the truth after all the lies Nicole told. EJ vows to make Nicole pay for this, since it was because of her that he threw his daughter out of his home. Sami gestures towards Nicole, telling EJ that she thinks she is already paying.

Bo asks sarcastically if Hope has Justin on retainer. She snaps back that she and Justin have a little molehill here that she knows Bo would love to make into a mountain. Bo retorts that he can’t imagine why he would be upset about his cousin offering his wife sympathy every time he turns around. Justin says abruptly that he has to go. He admits that he cares about both of them, but he thinks Bo is acting like a real jerk. Bo scoffs, giving Justin his best to Adrienne as Justin walks out. Hope agrees that Bo is a complete jerk. Bo grumbles about Justin telling hope that he will always be there for her. Hope asks him to speak up a little louder so their daughter can hear them arguing. Bo sighs, telling Hope that he came to give her some good news. Hope glares, saying that she knows Carly was extradited, as Justin just told her. Bo scoffs, “Of course.”

Carly snatches her hand back from Vivian, complaining that she is hurting her. Vivian chuckles and apologizes, saying her bracelet must have caught on Carly. Carly asks if it’s poisoned and Vivian laughs gaily, saying that she is glad to hear Carly hasn’t lost her sense of humor. Carly asks Vivian if she knows whose house this is, and threatens to have Bo throw her out. Vivian says he would if he were here, but he isn’t, and fortunately for her, the guard is on a break. Vivian says that that is wonderful for her and Carly, because they have so much to say to one another. She steps inside, saying that they’ll both laugh about Lawrence, then cry, and then talk about how he died.

Maggie begs a distraught Mia to take a deep breath. She sobs that she knew Grace was hers, when she held her and Grace looked up at her, and now she’s dead. Maggie tries to reassure Mia that they don’t know that is true. She asks Chloe exactly what she said. Chloe comes out of her stupor and tells Maggie that she didn’t even find out herself until today. Mia bawls that Nicole swore she’d be a mother to her baby, and she lied to her. Chloe nods, explaining that Nicole switched Mia’s baby for Sami’s. Maggie rolls her eyes, saying she doesn’t believe everything Nicole says. She turns to Mia, telling her that she is going to go some place quiet, call Roman, and find out what is going on. She promises to be back and heads off. Chloe apologizes to Mia, saying again that she had no idea she was behind her. Mia shakes her head, saying she never understood before why Nicole made sure she held Grace and said goodbye to her before she died. Now she knows Nicole felt bad, and was soothing her own conscience. Chloe thinks she was probably trying to do the right thing, but Mia snaps at Chloe not to dare defend Nicole. Mia then says that a lot of weird things make sense now, but she still doesn’t understand why Nicole switched her baby for Sami’s.

EJ takes Sydney from Sami and strokes her cheek, saying that this is hard to understand. He adds that he can’t believe Nicole let him throw his daughter out of the house without telling him the truth. Sami says it’s because Nicole was in too deep, and didn’t want EJ knowing that Sydney was Sami’s mother. EJ grimaces, saying that Sami and Nicole have something in common—they both like to keep his children from him. Sami sighs, asking if he really wants to have that conversation right now. EJ sighs and shakes his head, saying that it’s time to go home. Sami tells EJ to wait, and asks the police to wait as well, since there is something she needs to do before Nicole leaves.

Mia sobs, wondering if her baby wasn’t good enough for Nicole, or if she knew she was sick right away. Chloe says that isn’t it, and that the reason Nicole wanted Sami’s baby so badly was because EJ was her biological father. Mia says that this is unbelievable, and that it can’t be happening. Maggie comes over just then, telling Mia somberly that she just got off the phone with Roman, and it is true, as he confirmed it. Mia tells Maggie that EJ is Sydney’s father, and that’s why Nicole did it. Maggie hugs her as Mia wails that she gave Nicole her baby because she thought she could trust her. Now she has lost everything, and it’s her own stupid fault. Maggie holds Mia as she collapses in her arms, crying hysterically.

One of the cops agrees to wait, and Sami thanks him. She explains to EJ that this is a pivotal moment. Although they both hate Nicole, and what she has done, Sydney still loves her, and they both have to respect that. EJ draws back from her with Sydney, saying he can’t do that after nine months of Nicole’s lies. Sami tries to take the baby, saying that Sydney deserves this, but EJ refuses. Sami tells him quietly to stop acting like a DiMera and be Sydney’s daddy. EJ relents and tells Sami to do it herself. She takes the baby and heads over to Nicole, asking the police to un-cuff her. Nicole thanks her, but Sami snaps at her not to speak to her. She then hands Sydney over to Nicole. Nicole hugs her and tells her how much she loves her. She warns Sami that Sydney is cutting a tooth and Sami glares, saying that she will handle it. Nicole sobs that she just wanted Sydney to be with her daddy, and that she didn’t want to hurt anyone. Sami says she still did, however. The cops say that they have to get going. Sami takes Sydney from Nicole and the police haul her off, as she sobs that she loves Sydney and that she always will. EJ asks Sami if she is ok. She says she thinks they both are, and adds that she and Rafe are going to take Sydney home. EJ stops her, saying that Sydney’s home is with him.

Bo sighs, upset that Justin already told Hope, but he assures her it’s good news, as it gives Carly some room to breathe, and them a chance to work out some of their problems. Hope frowns, and Bo groans, guessing Justin didn’t put it to her that way. Hope wonders sarcastically what Justin has done now, and Bo retorts that he has to wonder why Justin giving her this news led her to end up crying in his arms. Hope scoffs. Bo claims that he is just wondering if Justin would be so sympathetic if Hope weren’t so gorgeous and fun to be around. Hope accuses him of playing her. Bo asks what she means, and Hope admits that while it is good news that Carly has been exonerated, they both know that when it comes to Carly and the Alamain family, nothing is as it seems. Hope thinks that this could be a set-up, and that Carly is going to need Bo—now more than ever.

Vivian looks around the living room and scoffs about the décor, saying that it’s pathetic the way public servants are paid. She then remembers that Hope has money and gasps, asking if this decorating scheme is intentional. Carly scoffs, saying that Vivian hasn’t changed a bit, and apparently getting really old hasn’t mellowed her at all. Vivian thinks grief is making Carly lash out, but she claims it’s just because she can’t stand Vivian. Vivian thinks they’ve gotten off on the wrong foot, and tells Carly that she wants to apologize. Carly scoffs, saying a premature burial is nothing between friends. Vivian admits she is sorry for trying to have Carly killed, and claims she could just shoot herself. Carly begs her to let her do it instead. Vivian ignores the comment, saying that she decided that she and Carly needed to meet and get rid of all that old animosity. She is sure they’ll find a way to bury the hatchet. Carly guesses that Vivian means for her to be holding it when it’s buried. Vivian chuckles.

A police officer leads Nicole into a jail cell and tells her he will let her know when she can make her phone call. He heads off. Nicole sinks onto the cot and moans, crying out for Sydney.

Sami scoffs, saying that another DiMera pronouncement is just what she needs right now. EJ claims that he is just reminding Sami that Sydney is used to living with him. Sami retorts that he kicked Sydney out, and now she’s used to living with her. Rafe steps in, reminding Sami of what she just did with Nicole for Sydney’s sake. He thinks that they all need to do a little more of that. He then adds that he doesn’t want to butt in, as he knows the two have a lot to talk about, and that they all need to figure out where Sydney is going to go, but this isn’t the place to do that.

Hope asks Bo if he can tell her Carly’s big secret now that she has been exonerated, but Bo says he can’t, as it isn’t his secret to tell. Hope grumps that she suspects things haven’t changed at all, and that Bo just wants her to think that they have. Bo promises that she will know as soon as Carly deals with what she came to town to deal with, but Hope claims that she can’t wait. Bo again reminds her that she chose to move out of their house with their daughter. Hope glares, asking if he is saying that this is her fault. Bo says that isn’t true, and that all he meant is that Carly isn’t the problem here. Bo thinks that Hope just doesn’t want him to be himself anymore. She isn’t sure how to respond to that. Bo shouts that she knows who he is, and that he isn’t that hard to read. He doesn’t coddle to kidnappers, and he doesn’t like it when he finds his cousin with his arms wrapped around his wife. He knows he gets mad and says the wrong thing, but he loves his wife and daughter more than life itself. If that doesn’t work out for Hope, then he is sorry. Bo then storms off. Justin walks into the living room, telling Hope how sorry he is. He offers to go talk to Bo, but Hope refuses, saying it isn’t his problem. She admits that she loves that she is assertive and stands up to Bo, but she still feels sick every time he walks out the door. Justin says it’s because Hope loves him. Hope changes the subject and asks Justin what the hell is wrong with Carly, and why she would admit to killing Lawrence when she didn’t. Justin thinks she may have been protecting someone, but Hope doesn’t buy it, saying that she believes Carly did kill Lawrence. She thinks that whoever took the fall for Lawrence’s murder is working for someone that is trying to set Carly up. Hope wonders who that could be.

Vivian asks Carly if she and Hope are working together, darning Bo’s socks and planning his meals. Carly snaps that it isn’t any of her business, but Hope isn’t living here right now, and is staying with Victor. Vivian thinks that that is convenient. Carly asks Vivian if she has been in touch with Victor, as she is pretty sure he will want to bury the hatchet too—right in her head. Vivian winces.

The police officer lets Nicole out to make her call, telling her that her public defender arranged for her bail to be set for baby trafficking. He suggests that she make bail before the other charges start piling up. Nicole asks what he means, and he tells her that she has been a very bad girl. He heads off. Nicole picks up the phone and sighs, calling Chloe, who she says is her last friend in the world. Chloe is back at Daniel’s place and answers. Nicole begs her to come bail her out, as she has to go get Sydney. Chloe refuses. Nicole vows that she will pay her back. Chloe snaps that she has the money, but she isn’t going to help Nicole. Chloe then demands to know how she could do this.

Sami, EJ, and Rafe are back at the DiMera mansion, where Sydney has fallen asleep. EJ offers to get the two a drink, but Sami just wants to get this over with. She starts to lay into EJ, but he interrupts, telling her that he must say something. He then tells Rafe that he will forever be grateful to him for returning his daughter. Rafe admits that since EJ saved his life, they can call it even. Rafe then says that he is going to leave, since Sami and EJ need to settle this alone, but Sami begs him to stay, telling EJ that Rafe is going to be a part of her children’s lives. EJ says he understands, and is in no position to judge someone else’s choice of a life partner. Sami then tells EJ that she wants to use this as a chance for a new beginning. She says that since they now have both Johnny and Sydney, that they must find away to try to work things out between them. She thinks they can, and asks EJ if he thinks so, too.

Mia sits with Maggie at the pub, sullenly telling her that Nicole knew all along, and made her lie about herself. Maggie assures Mia that Roman told her that Nicole has already been arrested, and that she will pay for what she did to Mia. Mia sobs that she did all of this for Nicole because she thought she loved her baby. She gets up, thanking Maggie for being so nice. Maggie isn’t sure Mia should be alone right now, but Mia says she won’t be alone, as there is something she has to do.

Nicole sobs, begging Chloe to help her, as she is her only friend. Chloe snaps that Nicole has been playing her for months, and that she isn’t her friend, she’s her patsy. Nicole promises Chloe that they will talk about this later, and begs her to bail her out of jail. Chloe retorts that Nicole is exactly where she belongs, where she can think about what she has done and the people she has hurt. Nicole exclaims that she didn’t hurt Sydney; she just wanted EJ to have his own child. Chloe hangs up on her. Nicole sobs that she just wanted EJ to have his daughter.

EJ tells Sami about Mary watching Johnny, and her telling him to mind her, and how Johnny retorted that she should be minding him. EJ claims that he could hear Sami’s voice in his head, and admits that he is glad their children have her genes to fight Stefano’s. He adds that he wants the same for their kids that Sami wants, and that he truly wants them to come together to raise Johnny and Sydney. Sami says she is glad, but EJ warns her it won’t be easy, as he has no intention on being one of those fathers that only sees his kids on the weekends. Sami says she understands, and reminds EJ that when they disagree, it’s not a fight; it’s just that they both want what is best for Sydney. Sydney grumbles from her playpen. EJ thinks she wants her mother. Sydney cries out for mama. Sami sighs.

Vivian asks Carly if the neighbors think she is a home wrecker, but Carly claims that Hope moved out before she even arrived in town. Vivian is surprised and Carly sighs, saying that she only came to Bo because Vivian sent people after her to kill her. It isn’t as if she is back in town trying to rekindle and old flame. She then reminds Vivian that she is in mourning, so her heart is like a block of ice. Vivian snaps that Bo probably has a blowtorch around here somewhere. Carly warns Vivian that it’s time to go. Vivian gets up and puts on her coat, telling Carly that she ought to go somewhere to unwind since she has been exonerated. Carly says she plans on staying right here in Salem, and Vivian offers to take her to lunch. Just then, Bo walks in. Carly notes sarcastically that they have a guest. Bo demands to know how the hell Vivian got in here. Vivian tells Bo that she is sorry, but she has to run. She says she hopes they can talk soon and tells Carly to stay strong. She heads off. Bo says that that was an unpleasant surprise and wonders if Vivian is back for a little revenge. Carly says no—she’s back for a lot of it.

Justin answers the door at the Kiriakis mansion, and a man serves him with legal papers.

Sami promises to learn to cook for Sydney as she soothes her. EJ tells her how wonderful she is with the baby. Sami claims that the two got to know one another since Sydney has been living with her, but EJ thinks it’s more, since Sydney quieted right down when Sami picked her up. Sami reminds EJ that sometimes kids want their mom and other times they want their dad. EJ sighs, telling Sami to take Sydney home for the night, though he wants her to know that he isn’t starting a precedent. Sami thanks EJ. Just then, the bell rings, and EJ heads off to answer it. Sami tells Rafe that she can’t believe this is going to work. Rafe agrees that EJ seems to be trying hard. At the door, EJ opens it to find a police officer outside. He tells EJ that he is going to have to come down to the station to have a little chat. EJ stares in confusion.

Hope doesn’t think Justin got good news, and he informs her that Adrienne had him served with divorce papers. Hope asks if he knew they were coming. Justin shakes his head, admitting that he knew things were serious, but he was hoping Adrienne would wait until they could talk face to face. Hope tells him how sorry she is. Justin decides that since he knows where he stands, he can least get a lawyer. He sighs, saying he doesn’t think he is ready to get a lawyer, and he really can’t pretend that this doesn’t hurt. Hope tells him that he doesn’t have to pretend—not in front of an old friend like her.

Bo asks Carly how long Vivian was here, and tells her to remind him to fire the guard outside. Carly begs him not to, as no force of nature would stop Vivian from delivering her message in person. Bo reminds her that Vivian also follows through on her threats, and suggests that Carly take this opportunity to get the heck out of Dodge. Carly refuses, saying that she isn’t leaving Salem now or ever—and Bo knows why.

Vivian is at the Java Café. She takes a sip of coffee and chokes, saying to herself that she ought to take her revenge on Carly by making her drink this swill. Gus heads in and greets her just then, asking if she talked to Carly. Vivian nods, saying this is going to be harder than she thought, since Carly has Bo Brady wrapped around her little finger. Gus asks if Vivian is worried that Carly might leave town, but she isn’t, since she doesn’t think Carly has what she came to town for.

The officer tells EJ that they need to have a little chat about the attempt on Rafe’s life. EJ scoffs, saying he actually saved Rafe’s life, but the cop shrugs, saying that he has his orders. Sami and Rafe head into the foyer with Sydney, and EJ snaps that the police are here on her daddy’s orders. He demands to know if all that talk of them getting along was just a stall tactic until her father’s men got here. Sami, aghast, claims that she had nothing to do with this. EJ retorts that that isn’t going to work, and tells Sami that Sydney isn’t going anywhere. The officer tells Sami to ignore EJ, and that she can leave. He puts a hand on EJ, who jerks it away. Rafe tells Sami that they need to leave, as Sydney has been through enough today. Sami protests, but Rafe leads her off, saying that they will call EJ in the morning. EJ glares after them.

An officer comes in to let Nicole know she has a visitor. Thinking Chloe has changed her mind, Nicole gets up to thank her profusely. Mia walks in instead of Chloe. Nicole sighs.

Melanie tells Philip, “I want you out of my life, 'cause I'm with Nathan now.”

Roman tells EJ, “He says Stefano didn't hire him. You did.”

Mia shouts at Nicole, “My baby is dead because of you!”
