Mimi’s loft:

Mimi runs back to the loft hoping to find Rex but instead finds Rex has already been there and taken all of his things, leaving only his keys. Mimi leaves a phone message for Rex in which she profusely apologizes, explains her actions, shares her hope of working things out, and ends by asking Rex to call her. Mimi begins to worry that Rex won’t call. Mimi curses Belle and blames her for the breakup as she tears up a picture of them together. There is a knock on the door and Mimi thinks it is Rex coming back but instead it is Bonnie who wants to know what is going on with Rex. Mimi starts to sob harder as she wraps her arms around Bonnie.

Belle’s loft:

Shawn returns with Belle and Philip to the loft as he helps carry in groceries. Belle brings up how Philip needs to take his medication and offers to make him something to eat with it. Philip doesn’t want Belle to do anything too active since after all, she did faint earlier and he is still worried about her. Belle insists she is fine. Philip offers his condolences about Marlena and the lost baby. Belle wonders whether the amnesia is a defense mechanism because it means that Marlena no longer remembers being locked up with Roman or the torture she went through when she found out she was pregnant. Philip assures Belle that Kate and Roman will get through this, as will John and Marlena. Philip leaves to call Austin with an update on Kate while Belle gets Philip’s medication.

Shawn starts to put the groceries away but Belle tells him that she can do that herself. Shawn insists on helping and mentions their need to talk. Belle insists that they don’t have anything to talk about; rather she needs to talk to Philip as soon as possible and in private. Shawn wants Belle to wait until they’ve worked everything out about their relationship but Belle now claims that there is nothing left to talk about. Shawn can’t understand how Belle can seem so cold and unexcited all of a sudden and Belle fires back by saying that she is pregnant with Philip’s baby now and therefore nothing about their lives is ever going to be the same.

Sami’s apartment:

Sami talks to herself about her plan to seek revenge on Kate by proving that she set up her and Brandon. Sami leaves but then comes back to retrieve her cell phone in case she may need to photograph something or voice record someone. Sami vows to be prepared this time and get her revenge if it’s the last thing she does. Sami turns and sees Lucas standing there. Lucas, having overheard, criticizes Sami for staying true to her old ways.

Hospital:

John waits by Marlena’s bedside, now in a private room, professing his love and vowing to stand by her side until she does wake up and remember him. Roman walks in and asks about Marlena. John demands that Roman leave them alone. Roman points out that it was his baby that Marlena lost and justifies that as his reason for being here when Marlena remembers. John claims that Lexie’s rule of no visitors specifically meant no to Roman. Roman declares that he doesn’t care what anyone said, he is going to be here for Marlena and there is nothing John or anyone can do to stop him. Kate arrives at the doorway in time to overhear Roman’s comment.

Sami’s apartment:

Lucas explains that he came to apologize because he felt he was too harsh on Sami at the hospital but now upon hearing what she just said, he begins to think otherwise. Sami doesn’t understand what Lucas means. Lucas yells at Sami for having her priorities wrong and tells her to leave Kate out of it because she’s already been through enough. Sami reiterates all that Marlena has just been through. Lucas tells Sami that Marlena would want Sami to focus her energies on being there for her mother and not on revenge against Kate. Lucas refuses to let Sami blame Kate for Marlena losing the baby. Sami agrees and relays how she talked to Roman who told her that Marlena fell because she was upset that John and Roman were fighting and that Kate was nowhere near Marlena. Lucas is still upset that Sami views Kate as a monster. Sami insists that Kate is a monster because she admitted that she didn’t want Marlena to have her baby. Sami blames Kate for that comment and for ruining her wedding day.

Hospital:

John grows angrier as he questions whether Roman is truly refusing to leave the room. Roman insists that he has rights too as the father of the lost baby. Kate becomes irritated and walks away from the room. John suggests that they take the conversation outside Marlena’s room and Roman agrees. Kate watches John and Roman’s conversation from across the room. John insists to Roman that Marlena doesn’t need him because he can take care of his wife just fine. Roman agrees but adds that if Marlena does need him too, he’ll be there for her. John can’t imagine what Marlena would need Roman for and accuses him of hoping that Marlena will wake up and think she’s still married to Roman. Roman likens Marlena’s situation to how John struggles with not remembering his past and insists that John would normally be the first person to tell him to give it a shot if he thought he could help Marlena remember so that 10 years from now, Marlena won’t be in John’s shoes, unable to remember her time with either husband. John insists that he wouldn’t wish that on his worst enemy but Roman isn’t so sure, accusing John of wanting to start fresh, forgetting the past and concentrating on making new memories. John accuses Roman of not wanting to let go of the past and seizing the opportunity in the castle to push himself on Marlena. Roman insists that that isn’t the way it happened but John persists. John demands to know how Roman manipulated Marlena into getting in his bed. Roman tells John that all he said was yes when Marlena asked him to make love to her. John laughs before turning back around and punching Roman. Roman fires back and they struggle. Kate runs up and yells at them to stop fighting as she tries to push them apart.

Mimi’s loft:

Bonnie calms Mimi down and shows her Rex’s resignation notice that she found on her desk. Mimi takes a look at the notice and is now convinced that Rex left Salem and is never coming back. Bonnie assumes that Mimi told him about the abortion but is shocked to hear that Belle is the one who blurted it out and Rex overheard. Bonnie sympathizes with Belle but Mimi claims that Belle only cares about herself. Bonnie insists that Mimi is only saying that because she’s upset and refers to Belle’s devotion to taking care of Philip as proof of how caring Belle is. Mimi scoffs at the reference and insists that Belle is only still with Philip despite secretly wanting to be with Shawn because Philip lost his leg and she would look heartless if she left him now. Bonnie agrees that it is awful. Mimi hopes that one day both Philip and Shawn get a clue and leave Belle just like Belle made her lose Rex.

Belle’s loft:

Shawn wants to talk and figure out how to handle this before telling Philip about the pregnancy. Belle continues to insist that there is nothing left to talk about because she can’t keep the pregnancy from Philip. Shawn insists that he would never expect Belle to do that and finishes putting away the groceries. Belle brings Philip his protein shake and medicine. Belle offers to help Philip further and Philip glances over at Shawn as he suggests that they head for bed and Belle agrees. Philip thanks and says goodbye to Shawn.

Belle walks Shawn out. Shawn asks Belle to wait at least one night to tell Philip so they can talk in the morning. Belle refuses to wait any longer to tell Philip the news because Philip should have known even before Shawn knew. Shawn is shocked when Belle gives him a non-committal answer to his question about their future. Shawn becomes furious when Belle quickly wishes him good night and closes the door in his face.

Belle returns to the kitchen and starts angrily cleaning up. Philip apologizes for being rude to Shawn but he thought Shawn would never leave. Philip notices that Belle seems preoccupied and Belle admits that she has something on her mind. Philip inquires further and Belle declares that she has something to tell him that he may not like.

Sami’s apartment:

Lucas points out that Sami has nothing but accusations against Kate and no proof. Sami insists that she has Eugenia’s confession so she knows it’s true, her only roadblock now is finding a way to prove it to Lucas. Lucas warns Sami not to try and frame Kate for something she did. Sami insists that Kate and Eugenia are as guilty as sin. Lucas, thinking this to be the same old song and dance, is sick of hearing it. Sami warns Lucas that he’ll be sorry when she proves the truth and will be begging her to forgive him. Sami adds that maybe if Lucas is lucky, she might actually forgive him.

Hospital:

Kate breaks up the fight, warning that if they keep it up, security will throw them both out. Roman apologizes to John but demands an apology from John as well. John refuses to apologize, justifying the fight by claiming that Roman is trying to place the blame on Marlena when it was his own fault. Roman insists that if given time to finish, he can explain what happened. John allows Roman to explain to which Roman says that their lovemaking wasn’t out of disloyalty, it just happened. Roman tries to convey to John about how he and Marlena thought they would never make it home and see their spouses again, leaving them to turn to each other in a weak moment which is something Tony made sure was going to happen. Roman flashes back to when he and Marlena feared that they’d never make it home.

John is having a hard time considering being held prisoner by Tony an excuse for Marlena and Roman’s infidelity. Roman mentions how Marlena referred to what they were going through as “Reverse Stockholm Syndrome” in that instead of identifying with their captor, they began to identify with each other and their past. John doesn’t buy that reasoning because if Marlena knew what was going on, she would have fought to beat Tony at his own game. Roman insists that both he and Marlena were determined but neither of them is infallible and what happened, happened out of need and desperation. Kate fights back the tears. John accuses Roman of waiting for the right moment to exploit the situation. Roman insists that he wouldn’t do that and that all they ever talked about was getting home to their spouses until Tony showed them the live feed of John and Kate together. John thinks this is just another excuse for Roman’s behavior but Roman quips that seeing John with Kate was like seeing what happened with John and Marlena years ago, he was watching John sleep with his wife.

Mimi’s loft:

Bonnie tries to comfort Mimi by suggesting that there are other guys in the world. Bonnie likens Mimi’s breakup to her own breakup with Mickey and declares that it’s the Lockhart way to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and move on. Mimi doesn’t want to move on. Bonnie tells Mimi not to count on the chance that Rex could come back one day and to start exploring new directions. Mimi declares that if she can’t have Rex, she’d rather live her life alone. Bonnie tries to convince Mimi that while she feels like her life is over now, the feeling won’t last forever. Mimi is convinced that she can’t even fathom ever moving on. Bonnie suggests moving on with Shawn but Mimi points out that even though she doesn’t love Shawn, he is in love with Belle. Bonnie thinks that Shawn will realize that Belle won’t leave Philip and then will turn to Mimi. Mimi tells Bonnie that she has to go away because she wants to be alone now. Bonnie touts her theory that Mimi should be with Shawn right up until Mimi accuses Bonnie of wanting her to be with Shawn’s multiple trust funds and pushes Bonnie out the door when Bonnie agrees with the idea.

Shawn returns home and asks Mimi why she is crying. Mimi tells Shawn about Rex leaving Salem. Shawn refers to Rex as upset when he found out but Mimi interrupts to claim that Rex was more than upset thanks to Belle because now Belle has ruined two more lives.

Belle’s loft:

Philip can’t imagine that Belle would tell him anything that would make him unhappy. Belle tells him that something happened that neither or them were expecting that affects their future. Philip becomes scared and asks Belle to come out and say the news. Belle declares that she’s pregnant.

Sami’s apartment:

Sami insists to Lucas that Kate is evil and doesn’t care whom she hurts to get what she wants. Lucas defends Kate by pointing out that she’s not the only one who has done things they’re not proud of. His point is interrupted when his headhunter calls about a job and he steps away to take the call. Sami realizes that Lucas won’t believe what Kate is capable of without proof but she knows exactly what Kate is capable of. Sami flashes back to arguing with Eugenia in Eugenia’s apartment. Sami looks over at Lucas who is telling his headhunter that he’d be willing to do the job she is describing if the money was right. Sami becomes convinced that Eugenia is the answer to all of this and wonders how to go about getting the truth out of her.

Hospital:

Roman explains that he and Marlena were devastated at seeing John and Kate together. John points out that they were brought together by grief because they both thought their spouses to be dead. Roman acknowledges that but adds that it didn’t make watching it any easier, claiming that that is what put Marlena over the edge. John accuses Roman of making his move when Marlena was at her breaking point. Roman explains that the thought of getting home to their spouses was what kept them going but then that changed when they saw John and Kate together. John accuses Roman again of choosing to throw himself on top of Marlena instead of standing by her and being her friend. Roman insists he was doing his best to reassure Marlena as a friend but when they saw John and Kate, that changed everything because it became clear that no one was going to come looking for them. Roman reminds John that if it weren’t for him and Jack rescuing Marlena and Cassie from the castle fire, Marlena wouldn’t be alive today as his proof that he was looking out for Marlena. John comes back to the bottom line, the fact that Roman and Marlena acted the way they did, knowing that their spouses were still alive. John heads back into Marlena’s room. Roman scoffs and turns to Kate. Kate asks Roman if he ever stopped once while making love to Marlena to think of her.

Belle’s loft:

Philip is overjoyed at the news that Belle is pregnant. Belle complains that this will change their lives and is happening at a time when they originally said they wanted to wait until later to have kids. Philip acknowledges that this pregnancy wasn’t planned but thinks that it was meant to be. Philip delights in the idea that the baby will only make their bond stronger and bring them closer together. Belle flashes back to professing her love to Shawn. Philip wants confirmation that Belle is as happy about the news as him but Belle proclaims that having this baby would be a huge mistake.

Mimi’s loft:

Shawn defends Belle to Mimi because Mimi is convinced that Belle blurted her secret on purpose. Mimi acknowledges that Belle is going through a lot right now but all she can think about is that Rex, the love of her life, just left her and is never coming back. Shawn tries to instill hope that Rex might come back until Mimi tells him Rex’s plan to take the job in Chicago. Shawn doesn’t believe that Rex would never come back because Philip didn’t mention anything about Rex leaving. At the mention of Philip being home, Mimi wants to go and see if Philip can get a hold of Rex but Shawn suggests that Mimi wait for Rex to call her. Shawn insists to Mimi that once Rex calms down, he will call her.

Sami’s apartment:

Sami suddenly has an epiphany. Sami jumps when Lucas approaches her to let her know that he has to leave to go chase after a job lead. Lucas notes Sami’s expression as one she gets when she’s plotting a scheme. Sami vows to prove her innocence to Lucas. Lucas is hopeful that Sami can prove it but asks her to stay out of trouble while he pursues this job lead. Sami is confident that Eugenia is going to help her nail Kate and decides who can help her with all of it. Sami leaves her apartment.

Hospital:

Roman insists to Kate that his every thought is of her but Kate doesn’t believe that was the case while he was making love to Marlena. Roman starts to reiterate his explanation for that but they are interrupted by the nurse walking between them and into Marlena’s room where Kate notices Roman’s pained reaction to the nurse preventing Roman from looking in on Marlena through the window by closing the blinds. Kate turns back to claim that Roman’s only concern right now is Marlena. Roman denies it but Kate accuses him of wishing that they hadn’t escaped and were still locked away thousands of miles from her and John.

The nurse offers John a cot to sleep in so he can remain by Marlena’s side. John turns down the offer, refusing to sleep so that he can be right there when Marlena wakes up. The nurse says to let her know if he changes his mind and leaves. John sits down next to Marlena, who is still unconscious, and tells her not to be afraid because he is not angry and still loves her. John tells Marlena that he understands how she was just a victim of Tony trying to tear them apart and then how Roman took advantage while Marlena was vulnerable. John vows to make Roman pay.

Belle’s loft:

Philip can’t understand why Belle isn’t happy about the baby. Belle flashes back to telling Shawn that Philip won’t stand in their way and will grant the annulment. Belle tears up as she claims to Philip that she’s scared that she’s not ready to be a mom and might not be able to do it. Philip assures Belle that she’ll make a wonderful mom but guesses that there is something else on her mind and wants to know what it is. Belle starts to tell Philip the truth about her and Shawn but Mimi interrupts by storming into the loft, closely followed by Shawn.

Mimi begs Philip to tell her how to reach Rex. Philip doesn’t understand why Mimi can’t just call Rex’s cell phone until Mimi explains that Rex left her. Belle is shocked at the news. Philip can’t believe that Rex would leave Mimi and wants to know what happened. Mimi blames Belle and tells Philip that Rex left her because Belle couldn’t keep her mouth shut and is so wrapped up in her own drama, she can’t even see that she’s ruined someone else’s life. Belle insists that that isn’t true. Mimi insists that if Belle had cared about her, she would have supported her and not berated Mimi at the top of her lungs so Rex could hear. Belle starts to claim that she didn’t mean for Rex to overhear but Mimi yells at her to shut up. Mimi mocks Belle by calling her perfect Belle as she complains that Belle never thinks anything is her fault and claims that she’s so selfish but can’t even see it. Belle calls Mimi selfish and points out that if she had told Rex the truth in the first place, he might not have left her. Mimi slaps Belle. Mimi takes offense at Belle’s remark and insists that she is the reason he left, vowing never to forgive her.
