Donna continues to pump Phoebe that true love is precious and if she has found that with Rick she has to hold onto it. Don’t let anyone stand in her way.

Rick and Ashley dine and she questions him more that if this tension with Ridge won’t get in their way? He declares not. She wonders if he can put his family loyalty before his feelings for Phoebe. He maintains that she will learn that when the Forrester’s have a problem, they manage to work through it. He thinks Ridge will come around. She says she has had so much upheaval in her life that now she could just use a little bit of stability. He offers that sounds boring, and not at all like the woman he met in Paris. She comments that the spontaneity and fun was his doing. She’s really not that woman, not really. He mentions the serenade at 2 a.m. by the Seine. She says he said he could sing so all she did was make him prove it. And he sang beautifully. She asks is he keeping up with that? He answers that his mom and dad want him to focus on the business for now. Ashley says that is too bad. He shouldn’t have to give up on something he loves so much.

With clothes strewn about and cards on the floor, food lying around, Taylor and Nick are snuggling and smooching on the couch. She breaks away and reminds him the deal was for five minutes of kissing. He quips he likes this game. “Even when I lose, I win.” She remarks she is feeling really lucky tonight. Perhaps she might just go all in. Jackie and Hope in tow come in and the lovebirds scamper to upright themselves. Hope rushes into Nick’s arms and they declare how much they have missed each other.

Phoebe asks Donna if she is telling her to defy her father? Coyly, Donna says she is not telling her to do anything. Enough of the others have already done that. Just stop listening to them and listen to her heart. Just because her dad says no, he can’t control what Phoebe feels. Phoebe asks why does she even care? Donna replies because she is Rick’s aunt and she wants to see him happy. Phoebe is surprised that she wouldn’t care if something messed up the big wedding plans. Donna answers this isn’t what this is about. Phoebe reminds her that she works for Jackie and Nick. And they would all be in serious trouble if the Forrester stores were a big success. Donna says they are a little nervous about that – linking a big wedding on Rodeo Drive to the opening of Forrester Originals boutiques, lots of press. Phoebe says but not as big as a Forrester dating a Forrester, that’s quite a headline. Donna boosts her again by saying she doesn’t mean to bash her father, but she thinks Phoebe can take care of herself. So how can she let him between her and Rick? Phoebe says he hasn’t. It’s not over. They’ve just put it on hold until after the wedding. And after the stores are open, it won’t matter so much what the tabloids say. And her dad just needs time to get used to the idea. Donna asks but what if it takes Ridge months or even years to come around? Is she willing to wait that long? Or Rick? She says yes for herself, but……

Hope tells Nick that her mommy is in Australia. Can they play cards? He says sure but she reminds him Fish is only for two people. Taylor says she has to go anyway. They will have plenty of evenings together and she puts her arms around him for a goodbye kiss while evil-eye Jackie glares disapprovingly.

Phoebe glumly asks if Donna thinks Rick will meet someone and not wait for her? He’s not that kind of guy. Donna says she knows and she just wishes her father could see that too. But how can he if they stay apart? How will he ever see what a good guy he is for Phoebe? Really the only way he is going to see how good he is for Phoebe is for them to be TOGETHER. Phoebe sees how that makes sense, but what about the wedding? This will cause problems for Brooke and Ridge. Donna agrees that bothers her too. She is her sister. But if she and Ridge’s relationship is strong enough, then nothing will bother it. And if they can’t survive a little thing like this, then maybe they don’t belong together. Phoebe knows he is committed to Brooke. Donna says then fine, if they are so happy, what can’t Rick and Phoebe be happy too? Love can be so elusive and if you think you’ve found it, don’t let it go. She’ll regret it, trust her!

Ashley tells Rick that she is the last person to be giving him advice on love or anything else for that matter. He laughs and says then let him give her some. It sounds to him that she and Abby need a new start. And L.A. is a lot of things, a place to reinvent yourself. This is a place that made Archie Leach into Cary Grant and Norma Jean into Marilyn Monroe. She quips isn’t it a little late for that kind of transformation for her? He argues no that it’s never too late to do something exciting, to reinvent yourself. Look at his dad. Most men his age would be retired. He’s all fired up and the entire family is fired up because of that. She asks didn’t he say he came there to eat and not make a sale’s pitch. He remarks that he is a pretty talented guy and he thinks he can do both. She theorizes if there is anything he can’t do? He says he can’t sign her contract for her, as much as he would like to. She realizes how hung ho he is about this. He says he is, he thinks it would be so good for “us” – well, Forrester Originals. Marilyn Monroe? she proclaims. Sounds glamorous. He says it is, but the fashion industry is also very hard work. She says she is not afraid of hard work. He can’t promise her there won’t be bumps in the road with a new company expanding, it’s a risk, but he can assure her that she will be appreciated here. She says that is all she needed to hear. She’ll take the job. Count her in, she’ll be THRILLED to take the risk with him. He’s elated, orders champagne and doesn’t know whether to toast himself or her, but “welcome aboard.” She warns him all she needs to do now is call her brother and tell him she needs a leave of absence. Does he miss Paris? He says it was a good fit for him. And when he first came home, he thought of going back every day. But not so much anymore, there is too much to look forward to here. She says she feels the same way.

But no more champagne. She’s still trying to get used to the time change from Hong Kong. She thinks she can use some cappuccino more than champagne. He says the food is great here but not so great for coffee, but he knows a spot just down the street with the best. She agrees and tells him he is a very persuasive man. She’s finding it hard to say no to him tonight.

Nick shows Hope where Australia is on the globe and she wants to go there with him some day with the koala bears and the kangaroos and where it is summer when it is winter here. He says he would like that too, maybe someday.

Donna surmises that Phoebe might not trust her. Phoebe says she does get what she is saying, but she and Rick agreed to keep their distance, just keeping it professional. Donna says she hopes they can do that, maybe things aren’t as intense as Brooke told her. Phoebe advises her they are in love. But Donna thinks not enough to die to be together. Phoebe says yes, she hates to be near him and not be able to put her arms around him, or when her father is around not be able to even look at him. It’s torture for both of them. Turn around and there is Rick walking in with a lovely Ashley Abbott. He sees Phoebe and comes over and introduces them to Ashley. Jealously, Phoebe comments that she has been trying to reach him all night by phone. Now she knows what he’s been up to.

Nick tells his mother that he wishes she would have told him she was bringing Hope over. Jackie half-heartedly apologizes, not knowing Taylor was going to be there. He says everything is alright but when he sees Hope, he is reminded how much he misses her. She asks then why is he getting involved with Taylor when he knows all he really wants is the family he had with Brooke? He has already said he doesn’t want Brooke marrying Ridge. And this Phoebe-Rick thing is a very big issue that could explode. He reminds her that is THEIR problem, not his. Even the wedding doesn’t happen, leave it alone.

Rick makes his apologizes, he was at Cafe Russe and turned his cell off. He and Ashley had business to discuss. Donna is smart enough to know they might not want to discuss that with the competition, her being Jabot’s leading cosmetic genius and chemist. Donna assures her that she won’t tell either Ridge or Nick that she saw them here together.

Later Rick asks Phoebe what’s up with her having coffee with Donna? She says she was just being supportive. Ashley tells Rick she thinks she will just get her coffee and go back to the hotel; she thinks the two of them might need some time alone. He makes noises about probably needing to go too, but Phoebe makes herself available and drags him away and asks him to stay. He says she knows they are not supposed to see each other. Somebody could report back to her dad and he’d never believe they just happened to run into each other. She drapes her arms over him, looking up dreamingly into his eyes and he’s putty. She tells him so what that they aren’t supposed to see each other. Why does her father get to determine when and where they see each other? He reminds her they have talked about this and they were trying to prove to their parents that they can be mature adults about this. She pouts that they are proving nothing, nothing at all. Does he really want to continue to be with her? He remarks that of course he does. She begs him to stop playing this ridiculous game. He only wants to do this the right way. But she whines the right way for whom? Her dad and Brooke? They just can’t them dictate their lives like that. If he really, really loved her – he says he does – then they can’t worry about someone seeing them. Or what their parents are saying. They can’t let any of that stop them.

Donna calls Jackie and reports in that Rick is there now with Phoebe. And Jackie should have seen her when he walked in. They definitely are in love. Jackie is pleased to hear this, no wonder Ridge is so nervous. Donna says she hopes she got through to Phoebe and Jackie laments yes but before Brooke marries Ridge. Donna looks around and sees the kids kissing and tells Jackie it’s so beautiful – young love. They can’t stop no matter how hard they try. And when Ridge finds out and goes berserk on Rick again, she knows Brooke won’t put up with that. “I’m looking at it, Jackie. The end of Brooke and Ridge.”
