Brooke prepares the dining room table and asks Ridge if he has changed clothes? He remarks he thought what he had on looked more paternal. She tells him not to think that Rick is going to think of him in that way, just be himself. Phoebe comes in and Brooke suddenly remembers what day it is, and she is a Godsend. She wants her to have supper with them too. She brings in a arm full of clothes and asks if this room of hers is really hers? He says yes, this house is hers too. He tells her he needs a little help with Rick so he doesn’t think he’s such a terrible guy. Phoebe reminds him the last time she saw Rick she thinks she was in braces. She hardly knows him. Rick appears and has a bloody nose and a torn shirt. All he will answer is that he was at a lecture at a leather bar in Silver Lake.

Lounging on the floor before a blazing fire, Eric and Pam look like an old married couple as they share something as simple as popcorn. He confesses that one of the things he was most angry with Stephanie with was being ‘stuck’ with Pam. He wanted to hang around the house all by himself, angry. He wanted to be self-righteous and alone. But, instead, he has never felt so comfortable in his own home, in his own skin. He owes her. She states that she owes him too. She’s never done anything like this in her entire life – all those glamorous parties. And now sitting in front of a fire, all safe and innocent. Suddenly Stephanie bursts through the door, hollering welcome. She realizes she is a day early, but he was afraid she might start drinking before noon so she’d better come back. She hugs her sister, who tottles off to get her some tea. Stephanie asks Eric what is that wonderful smell and he informs her that Pam made a post roast. She quips gosh, he’s had someone taking really good care of him…..maybe he hasn’t even noticed that she was gone, or missed her. Or maybe she shouldn’t ask. But she does ask how was it with Pam? She knows she can be a bit chirpy sometimes. He maintains that she was the perfect guest, really. And a great help with the party tomorrow night. She pleads innocence of knowing anything about a party. He tells her he will go get her bags and dismiss the driver.

Pam comes back and asks how was the trip and how was her mother? Stephanie jokes that she almost came close to strangling her, but decided it wouldn’t do any good. Pam admits that Ann wanted to put a gun in the apartment, but she convinced her it might be safer not to. Stephanie asks how things were here and Pam admits they were wonderful. She had the best time. Stephanie hugs her again and beams that she is glad and thanks for everything. Then asks did Ms. Marone show up? Pam confesses that actually she did. And Eric wasn’t interested. “I honestly don’t think you have a thing to worry about that one.” Stephanie thanks her profusely. She has no idea how glad she is to hear that. Eric catches them in an embrace and says that is what he likes to see. Stephanie remarks that she loves her sister and Pam repeats the same.

While Pam goes to get the tea, Stephanie asks Mr. Forrester if he filed for a quickie off-shore divorce while she was gone? He says hmm, it must have slipped his mind. She remarks good, she knows now what she wants to be when she grows up. He quips – astronaut? She says that too, but she also wants to be the person that takes really good care of him for the rest of his life.

At the dinner table, Brooke questions Rick how the lecture was. He confesses it wasn’t a lecture, but a reading. He gets those words missed up in French. He also only looked at the address and did not know it was a leather bar. Soon he and Ridge are at odds with each other when he says he didn’t like leaving France and his friends the way he did. Ridge tells him to hold onto those contacts, they will need them. Rick reminds him they work for Nick Marone now. They liked Rick but they have families to feed and they couldn’t sit around for six months while he found them a job. Ridge thinks they will jump ship soon and come back to them. Brooke wants to change subjects. Ridge asks about Nick coming by earlier. What did he want? Why did he want to talk to Brooke? Rick sneers that is being a little personal, isn’t it? Ridge offers that Nick has one thing, and only one thing on his mind, and that is to destroy this family. Brooke says it was nothing like that. Again Rick sneers can they blame Nick? Since Ridge destroyed his. Brooke asks if that remark was really necessary? Phoebe wants to talk about something else – like the weather. Ridge says Rick just wants to blame him for losing the company when it was really his father’s decision. Rick digs oh it was Massimo’s decision. Ridge concedes, alright Eric is Rick’s father, not his. Rick doesn’t even know why they are talking about the company. Nick came over to see Hope and talk to Brooke. To him it sounds like some unfinished business. Brooke refutes that. Rick says okay, then what? If this isn’t the proper dinner conversation, when in the hell does he get to ask what happened?

Ridge suggests that Nick screwed up. Rick asks – and Ridge hasn’t? “You’ve pawed over my mother and walked away, how many times?” Ridge stands up and has had enough. Rick stands as well and says Ridge gets bored and comes crawling back. Is that how it works? It’s Brooke’s turn, she stands – she tells them it’s enough when Ridge says it was all of Nick’s doing, if Rick has to know. Rick says he’s sorry and leaves sarcastically saying guess he’s not old enough to understand. Phoebe tells the others she thinks they should cut him some slack. Ridge says excuse him – but he’s trying to make every effort here. She explains that Rick loves his mother, and the last thing he knew she was happy. Now all of a sudden she’s divorced and he doesn’t get it. No offense, but she knows how he feels. She says she will talk to him.

Defeated, Ridge is confronted by Brooke who asks if he wasn’t going to say what she thinks he was? Ridge wonders why they can’t just tell him. Brooke asks in front of Phoebe? Ridge laments that when he hears that Nick cheated on her with his own sister, that’ll bring him around real fast. She declares this is not a topic for open discussion! He fires, “oh, we can dredge up history with you and me, but God forbid we tarnish Nick’s name.” She asks what about Bridget, what about herself? Does he think they really want to go on explaining for the rest of their lives? Ridge shrugs okay, then they will just let him think what he thinks. She says it’s going to take some time, but that’s alright. They have that. Ridge says if Rick wants to get to know him instead of just insulting him, he’s open to that. He’s going to go check on R.J. as he was coughing when he put him to bed.

Phoebe joins Rick out in the garden. He asks if she has been delegated? She opts that she volunteered. He admits he knows he’s an ass. She doesn’t need to tell him that. She remarks his table manners could use some work. Simply, he asks what happened? She says his mom and Nick were married and then they weren’t. Nobody ever really said exactly, but she believes his mom loves her father. He quips and he does believe he could go skydiving without a parachute. She tries to convince him that she doesn’t know if them getting married is a good thing, but as their kids, they kind of need to let their parents make their own mistakes. He scoffs, so what else does she think he could do to SPOIL it for everyone? Maybe fall asleep with a lit cigarette and burn the house down? She offers perhaps a blow-dryer since he doesn’t smoke. He thinks that would be very noisy and take a very long time. She remarks that if he wants everyone’s life to be miserable, he has to be dedicated. Like the time she put gum in her sister’s hair and it took two days to get out. They laugh, now he knows why she isn’t coming home.

Pamela asks Eric how it went? They didn’t argue, did they? He tells her she worries too much. She just says his marriage is very important to her. He says he knows. Why is that? She ponders, saved by Stephanie who enters and says she doesn’t know what it is about airplanes. They make you feel so grimy, you just want to get home and shower. She’s not unpacked yet but she tells Pamela again that she is glad she is staying over. She gives her another hug. Pam thinks it’s going to be quite the shindig, but she is sure to hear about it from Ann when she gets home. She believes she will go to bed and hugs Stephanie goodnight.

Stephanie turns to Eric and asks if he is as angry with her as when she left? He admits he doesn’t understand her any better. She remarks but he didn’t leave. He says no, but he did come to some conclusions. One of which is that he doesn’t get enough of what he needs from her. Demurely she asks him to just tell her what that is and she will do it if it’s within her power. He sits by her and rattles off – attention, appreciation. And it’s not like he’s going to bail if he doesn’t get it, not right away anyway, but if she wants to make a success of this marriage thing they have been doing for so long, something is going to have to change. And he thinks that is going to have to be her. She stammers that she doesn’t know what promises he wants her to make. He tells her that he doesn’t want her to promise. He wants her to stop. He wants her to stop abrading him for being weak and indecisive, and then when he does make a mistake, jumping down his throat every time. He wants her to stop that. She agrees. Criticism he can take, but not contempt. She says she understands. And he wants her to stop these elaborate schemes and plots. He wants her to stop making plans that involve him and then leaving him in the dark about it……..and he wants her to stop this never-ending war with Jackie Marone. She asks if he is in love with Jackie? He stands and says he has not been unfaithful to her, not since their last set of I Do’s. Stephanie says Pam did say she made a bee-line over here, but he did turn her away. He admits that pretty much sums it up. She admits that would be the hardest thing, for her to think that he could get from another woman whatever he thinks he could not from her. She tells him she loves him, and he asks why? She says habit. He asks if they can start again? It’s what they do best. She goes into his arms and they both give a big embrace. On the balcony Pam looks down in a saddened, jealous way.

On the lawn, Rick and Phoebe lie on their backs looking up at the stars. She doesn’t want to hear his “it’s better in France speech.” And she hates the Big Dipper, she just sees stars. He explains it to her and they giggle and joke over the Big Dipper, the Big Zipper, the Big Flipper, the Big Stripper. Ridge calls down and asks if Brooke is coming to bed. She’s straightening up the table and tells him she will in a minute. He asks about Phoebe and she says she is still out in the garden with Rick. He’s a little concerned and asks what are they doing? She answers nothing, they are fine. But she closes the doors and takes a look at them lying side by side on the ground and smiles.
