The Bold & The Beautiful Update Monday 1/22/07

The Forrester’s are gathered around the newspaper headlines and sales reports calling them the hottest Couture House in the country….vendors calling like crazy. Everyone has a big smile on their face. Lauren sips coffee with Taylor and they discuss what a difference a few weeks has been for Eric who was so depressed earlier. Lauren can identify with him and Taylor is glad they are both better.

Eric snags both Phoebe and Bridget to model for him. Bridget reminds him she wants to help, but still has a full schedule at the hospital. He states that will work around that. First and foremost, Forrester Originals is a family business. He wants everyone involved, even his beautiful daughter! He greets Lauren and asks her to stay. He thanks her for coming saying that having the distributors here has given them a lot of confidence. To have her here at the press conference after all that is going on in her life with the new baby and all….and her first trip away from him…..She praises him too but has one hesitation. How is he going to distinguish himself from Forrester Creations? Ridge steps up and says their designs will be the ones flying off the racks. Eric tells him he doesn’t know. Lauren may have a point. Forrester – Forrester – it could get confusing. Ridge points out that it won’t if the customers are looking for quality. Theirs will have it, Nick’s won’t. Lauren says she knows both Jackie and Nick and she’s really sorry their families are at war. But Jackie earned her reputation in this business, and Nick cut his teeth running one of the largest companies in the world. They are not amateurs and they won’t go down without a fight.

Nick questions Jackie about her business and she tells him he needs to concentrate on Forrester Creations. He still wants to know how many fashion houses does Jackie M handle? She replies that all depends on how many collections she thinks she can sell. She has a few long-term with some of the bigger, more reliable houses. He re-affirms that Forrester Creations can’t have a contract with everyone who carries their designs? She replies oh, no. There are five big major distributors that handle the majority – Lauren Fenmore in the midwest, Harvey Golden in the northeast, Arthur Harrison, west coast. And then there is St. Julienne in Europe and Chen’s in Asia. And they all conduct business much the same way she does, just on a larger scale. Nick declares then that is it. They control those companies and they will control the entire industry. Shocked, she tells him he can’t be serious. He CAN’T buy them all. Does he know what they will cost? He tells her to handle the designs, and he’ll handle the business.

Thorne shows his dad some fabric and Eric laments that is what Forrester Originals is all about…the best fabrics on the market and the highest quality….opulent textures and sumptuous detail. Thorne adds that opulence doesn’t come cheap. That stuff he is holding is pricey. Eric says yeah and it’s perfect. He wants everyone to understand something. This company will make a profit in the end. It may end up being more successful than Forrester Creations ever was. But he reminds them he is not looking at the bottom line, just yet. What he wants to do is create something absolutely original…every gown an original….of an absolute work of art. Brooke says they are all backing him up. Ridge says they dropped a hell of a lot of cash getting this place up and running as quickly as they did. So they didn’t need to put themselves too far in the red here. Felicia chimes that they can’t hold back on the first collection either. Thorne advises they have to separate themselves from the pack and they have to do it right out of the gate. Ridge gloats that he doesn’t care what Lauren says. They could design the whole collection out of denim and burlap and Captain Bligh still wouldn’t have a prayer.

Taylor chastises him for why he has to be that way? And when he knows that Forrester Creations was a huge part of all of their lives. Why does he want to see it destroyed? Eric defends by saying it was already destroyed. It was destroyed the day Nick bought the company. Taylor asks, “what? There isn’t room for Forrester Creations and Forrester Originals?” Felicia speaks up and says no. Taylor wonders what Bridget or Brooke thinks? Doesn’t this bother them? Bridget shrugs and says that Nick has never been afraid of a fight. Brooke adds this is the fight he’s been waiting for. Ridge quips yeah, they can call it that! Nick seems to think he’s going to sell based on the name. What he doesn’t understand is that it is not the name, but the designs.

Nick tells Jackie that it’s not about designs. It’s about distribution. She argues that if just one company holds out, his plan will backfire. And with just one or two retailers, Forrester Originals will seem that much more exclusive. He says that is why they must shut them down immediately. Is he missing anything else – department stores, the Internet? She tells him to forget the Internet. When you are paying that much for a gown, you want individual attention. These designs have to be fitted, they have to be accessorized. The Forrester’s rely heavily on these five big retailers to move their inventory.

Jackie looks around and sees Lauren Fenmore. Nick tells her to get to work. They greet each other and Lauren is glad she looks so well after her fall; she was worried. Jackie maintains that the Marones are nothing if not resilient. She pumps Lauren by saying she guesses Eric gave her a real sales pitch to her and the other distributors. Lauren says he really didn’t have to. Eric and Ridge are one of the few safe bets in this business. Jackie asks if there is any chance on taking a gamble on Forrester Creations? The cruise line, it garnered some quite exceptional reviews. Lauren remarks that she thought their first offering was quite confident, but she has to be honest with them. She’s not sure that Forrester Creations can succeed without a more dynamic designer. Nick vows that they shouldn’t count him out just yet. Lauren answers that she is not. Not at all. In fact she was just telling the Forrester’s that Nick and his mother were a very formidable team. Not to mention one of the best baby gift givers of all times, and she thanks them. Jackie gushes that it was their pleasure. She’s so happy for her and Michael. And it must be so hard being away from Fen when he is so young. She retorts yes she can’t wait to get home to him. Jackie asks her about work? She knows how time consuming it is to run her own business. Is that something she wants to keep on doing? Lauren thinks that is a strange question for her to be asking. Does she think now that she has a baby, she should give up her career? Nick says he doesn’t think that is what she was saying at all. Lauren points out that women today can be both successful business women and have very satisfying lives as mothers. Like Brooke and Taylor. She was just with them at Forrester Creations and Eric is getting the whole family together. It’s really nice, really exciting. Nick offers that he hopes she can be just as excited about what they are turning out at Forrester Creations. Lauren promises that she will send her buyer to sit front row at their next show. They say their good-byes with safe journey to Lauren and good luck to the both of them with Forrester Creations.

Alone, Jackie chides Nicky for stopping her when she gave him the perfect opportunity to talk to Lauren about selling Fenmore’s. He confides to her that Lauren is too close to the Forrester’s. It will leak back to them. He wants them to sink as much capital as they can into this new collection until they realize they got no place to sell it.

Eric rounds up the clan and says they are going down to the production floor…all except Felicia, she has to check in on Dino and Bridget has to get back to the hospital. Ridge rushes them out so he can be alone with Thorne. He has some things to discuss with him. He asks if Thorne has asked Taylor about the gift that Nick dropped by? Doesn’t he think he should? Thorne tells him no he doesn’t. He and Taylor are focused on helping Allie right now, to get her to accept the fact that they are getting married. Ridge says okay, that’s a priority but they can’t ignore this problem. Thorne promises that Nick Marone is not a threat to his relationship. No one is coming between them; they are solid!

Taylor walks into Jackie M’s and heads to Nick. He looks up and asks if she would like to buy a frock? She laughs no, she was there actually to see him, was told he was here. He asks again if she is sure she isn’t interested in buying a Forrester design? He’s been told they are collector’s items. Jackie saunters over and coos that word of their demise is extremely exaggerated and very premature. Nick says they have been told their design team isn’t dynamic enough. Taylor says well that is what she wanted to talk to him about. He quips that really, is she giving up psychiatry and taking up sewing? She says no, but she is there to give him a little advise. Jackie excuses herself to let them talk. Taylor continues that this is more of a heads up. He says he is all ears. She suggests that he has lit a fire under the Forrester’s and they are determined to crush him. And she hates to say this, but when she has seen them like this, they could do it. Nick just smirks.

Ridge tells Thorne, okay forget about Taylor. What about what Lauren said? He agrees with her. Nick and Jackie are not going down easy here. He already knows Nick has a grudge against them. Thorne acknowledges that, but what can he really do? Good question, says Ridge. Thorne answers that Nick could come after them for using the Forrester name which is theirs. Tangle them up in a lawsuit. or what…..try to keep the collection from coming out? Ridge agrees that would take a lot of energy, waste a lot of energy. He should be applying to get a new designer. Thorne advises he has been asking around and Nick doesn’t seem to be doing that. Does that bother Thorne? He replies he thinks Nick is the one who should be worried. There is NO way that Forrester Creations can go toe to toe with them with the crap they are putting out. Ridge states that Nick knows that. Which means he’s going to go some other route to get back at them. Maybe something personal, maybe something through Taylor. She’s obviously a friend to him. Otherwise why would he have gone out of his way to give her a gift like that? Thorne tells him he doesn’t like the guy or trust him any more than Ridge does, but he does trust Taylor. And if he is trying to use his friendship to screw this family over, Taylor is going to see right through that. Ridge warns him just to keep his eyes open. Thorne returns by saying no, if he’s so worried, he can keep his eyes open. He’s not going to insult the woman he loves, the woman he’s going to marry by doubting her loyalty to him or the family.

Taylor tries to impress upon Nick that she’s never seen the Forrester’s more determined or focused. He says good. It’s the fashion business. It’s not like there are lives at stake. She says yes it is. What about all those people that work for him that have families? He laughs. Does she mean the six people who didn’t defect to Forrester Originals? She tells him he can laugh all he wants, but she knows this is important to him. He reminds her it’s not like he’s going to stress out over it. He asks if she case and she admits she does. He says she must because she is taking a big risk sneaking over here to the dark side. She warns him that the Forrester’s know what they are up against, he should too. He says maybe they don’t know. Maybe they have no idea. She accuses him of having some trick up his sleeve or some sort of surprise. He retorts well maybe he will take the whole world by storm and gestures with his hands, “Nick Marone takes fashion industry by storm.” She laughs and says he is crazy. He says she ought to know; she’s his shrink. She tells him he doesn’t even like this business. He wonders what is not to like? Models, fancy clothes, beautiful, sexy, socialites, just like those two over there……as he points toward two elderly ladies. She tells him he is bad. He argues that he is just coming out of his shell, thanks to her. He grabs her by the arm and pulls her into a dressing room and closes the curtains. Jackie sees this. He says the Forrester’s won’t run him over. And if they think they can, they are making a big mistake. He says he appreciates her concern when she says she doesn’t want anyone to make a mistake. He knows her concern is genuine and that’s why he wants to tell her this. He relays that things are going to get ugly very soon, and he doesn’t want her caught in the middle. What they did to his mother, he’s going to make them accountable. And he’s going to hit them like they’ve never been hit before.

Ridge hangs up the phone and tells his Dad that Forrester Creations is in full production. Eric scoffs that Nick is a fool. Ridge wonders if Nick might have a plan? Eric doubts it. To compete with them? Fashion is about lines on a page…it depends on experience and talent. That’s THIS company. Their clientele will follow them. There’s not a damn thing Nick Marone can do about that.

Nick tells Taylor the old man can draw all he wants. It doesn’t matter. He doesn’t think they are that capable anymore and he can compete with them, but he doesn’t think he has to. She asks him if he realizes he is talking about her fiancée and his family? He claims that if she and Thorne are meant to survive this, then they will. If not……she’s going to have to make a choice. They are confident because they have talent and experience on their side. But there is only going to be one man standing at the end of this, and that……..he caresses her cheek…… “pretty lady” is him.
