Ridge tells Nick this is so ridiculous, so much BS. Nick states that his mother is lying in a hospital bed not knowing what tomorrow will bring. Eric interjects they all want to resolve this as much as he, but to sell him Forrester Creations? Nick winks and says it’s a small price to pay for what Stephanie did. She flatly tells him he’s crazy. He walks toward her and says it might not seem so bad if she looks at him as the man that can keep her out of prison.
Dr. Hillman examines a despondent Jackie and tells her that she is making progress, but he can prescribe her more pain killers. Bridget visits on her hospital rounds and there is a small awkward silence between them, but Bridget stays when Jackie asks her to please keep visiting. Bridget asks where is Nick? He’s been there full time since her fall. Jackie opines that it was not a fall; Stephanie pushed her. She gloats that Nick is going to make sure she pays for it.
Ridge tells Nick they have all listened to his ridiculous pitch, and the answer is no. Nick walks out and tells Stephanie, “Enjoy prison.” The attorney tells him that no laws have been broken yet. Stephanie quips – oh, that blackmail is legal all of a sudden? Nick answers that this is NOT blackmail, it’s a fair deal. Stephanie chuckles and says oh yes it is blackmail – he gets the company or she goes to jail. He tells her he is making her a fair offer and she knows it. Ridge points his finger and vows they will NEVER sell to him. Nick glares and says then make sure he can accept the consequences. Eric tells him to hold it; he’s made his point, now be reasonable. Gruffly he tells them he sat with his mother yesterday and watched her try to form a few very simple sentences, and he came here in peace today, he considers this reasonable. Stephanie sighs a deep breath and tells him surely he realizes she feels terrible about his mother’s injuries. He says well why doesn‘t she show it? Sit behind that desk and draw up some sale’s contract. Looking him in the eye, she says she is never going to do that. He tells her that her entire stake in her family’s company is right there in his hands, “or I’ll make sure they throw away that key after they close the cell door.”
Jackie opines that what Stephanie did was a crime. Bridget asks if she really wants to run a fashion house? Jackie states yes, if it gets Ridge away from Brooke and the Forrester’s. Bridget tells her that Stephanie alone didn’t break Brooke and Nick up, he played a part in that. Bridget played a part in that, and Ridge. She starts to tell Bridget that she’s never going to be the same when she grimaces and grabs her head in pain. Bridget calls for help.
Eric apologizes to Nick and that he is sorry it happened in his home. No one is denying there was an argument and it became physical. Nick replies and it had a very ugly ending. Eric reminds him that it wasn’t a premeditated act of violence. And Stephanie points out this has nothing to do with compensation, does it? Ridge states that this is all empty threats. No jury is going to convict his mother for an accident. Nick opines that it’s Donna’s word that Jackie was pushed on purpose. Stephanie says well Donna is a liar. But, she has another question for him. Where does Brooke fit into this scheme of his? Working along side of him, the faithful wife and helpmate, just the way he has always wanted it? Nick quips that wherever she winds up, it’ll be better without Stephanie around……and God willing, his mother will run Forrester.
Stephanie says, “oh,” looking at Brooke. Brooke tells him she thinks he is forgetting that she already owns controlling interest in Forrester. He replies that actually she doesn’t. She owns the 50% Stephanie gave her and the 2% he bought from Taylor was in the Marone Industries name…it’s not community property. She reminds him that he bought it for her. He states that as long as they are married, then it’s hers, but as soon as that is no longer the case, he’s keeping it (sounds like blackmail #2). She asks if she can have a word with him…..alone. All the eyebrows in the room, especially Stephanie’s, raise.
Bridget warns Jackie that this is the reason that she needs to avoid all these outside factors in her life to not aggravate these headaches. Threatening to put Stephanie Forrester in jail is a bad idea. And Bridget points out that she is not taking sides; she cares about Jackie and Nick. But, she is letting her anger do things that she normally wouldn’t do. She reminds her that she has a period of recuperation in front of her, and it might be a long one, and she doesn’t need to poison it with bad thoughts about Stephanie. With all her might and strength, Jackie vows that Stephanie is going to pay….it’s going to cost her.
Ridge puts his hands on the back of Stephanie’s shoulders and promises her they are behind her with everything they have. Every Forrester resource will be available and they will fight this. Eric also says they will not let anyone put her in jail. The attorney says he will work on it, but at this juncture it looks as if Nick is not interested in listening to anything less than them selling him Forrester Creations at fair market value. And he suggests they just let things cool down a little. Eric says but that’s the problem, Nick isn’t going to cool down. Stephanie agrees….you can’t negotiate with people that are that emotional. How about his mother? She’s always been reasonable. Maybe she is the perfect person to reign Nick in! She starts to walk out and Ridge asks where she is going? She replies – to the hospital. They all think that is not a good idea, and the attorney tells her anything she says to Jackie could work against her. She says she will be careful. Ridge responds, “why do I always worry when she says things like that?”
Nick explains to Brooke that he DID buy the company for her…..but, it was supposed to be used to kick these people out of the company. She offers that she couldn’t do that. There is NO company without them. He tells her that is what they want her to believe, he doesn’t. She says he can’t run Forrester Creations, he’s too busy running Marone Industries. He states that WHEN his mother recovers, she will run Forrester…..along with Brooke if she so chooses. They’ll get new designers, fresh ideas. She asks why? Ridge is doing some of his best work right now. He says she made some decisions she needed to make, and he respected them. Now he needs to do the same. “And this decision has been made.”
Jackie is given more painkiller and Dr. Hillman explains to Bridget that one of several things could happen with the headaches. He’s worried that at worst they could evolve into one of several forms of epilepsy and even if she doesn’t, she could end up on painkillers. They have to hope that doesn’t happen. Jackie feels better but tells Bridget she really doesn’t want to get hooked on this stuff. Bridget tells her to listen to her body. It’s really not her job to bring Stephanie to justice. What is her job is just to lay there, relax and recuperate and stay in a really positive frame of mind.
Suddenly Stephanie darkens the door and Jackie asks what is she doing here? Bridget speaks up and says she doesn’t think this is a very good idea, Jackie is really, really tired. Stephanie laments that she won’t say anything to upset her (famous last words!), and Jackie holds the call button and says it’s okay, she has help if she needs it. Bridget gives Stephanie a long stare as she leaves. Jackie tells her if she has come to apologize, she can save her breath. “I’m never, ever, going to forgive you for this.”
While filing papers away, Bridget has tearful, bittersweet memories of happier times with Nick and wishes they could start over again.
Nick tells Brooke to think of this. This is her chance to run Forrester Creations free of that family ….a company that she loves. And he’s willing to do this for her. She asks if he really thinks that Stephanie and Eric and Ridge are just going to hand it over to him? He remarks that he could have that woman put away, and she knows it. This way they can cash out and make amends for Stephanie’s past. She states that they won’t do that. He says guess they will just have to wait and see.
Ridge opines that this plan of Nick’s can’t work, can it? His mother didn’t mean to hurt anyone. The attorney points out that they have a witness that WILL testify to that. Juries are unpredictable, but they tend to believe eyewitnesses. They tend to like underdogs. Ridge asks but don’t they have to actually prove intent of harm? The attorney replies yes, beyond a reasonable doubt, but that is all very subjective. And, don’t forget, that no matter what a jury decides, there is always the publicity angle. By the time it gets run through the legal system, the respected brand name can be damaged beyond repair. Ridge replies he doesn’t give a damn about that. What he’s really concerned with is can they put his mother behind bars? The attorney answers that aggravated assault does carry a jail term in this state and nowadays there is a lot of pressure to make sure the laws apply to everyone equally. Eric says, “well, Stephanie can be diplomatic when she chooses to be….. (wonder what wife does he think he sent over there?)……she’s talking to Jackie right now……maybe she is apologizing. Ridge doesn’t think so. And they are underestimating Jackie. She is out for BLOOD just like Nick is.
Stephanie starts off trying to play nice by asking Jackie how her head is? Jackie dismisses her kindness by asking if she ever fell that many feet below on a marble floor on HER head? Stephanie says she knows they have never gotten along, but she certainly never ever wanted her to be physically harmed. Can’t they be reasonable? Jackie asks if she is there to apologize? Stephanie says she is sorry it happened. Jackie sniffs it’s not the same thing. Stephanie says does she wish she would have done things differently? Of course. And that is the definition of sorry. Jackie states that no, the definition of sorry is that she feels BAD, and she doesn’t. Nick came to see her and he told her what they wanted. Stephanie grumbles that yes she is worried that they are both losing their minds. Jackie boasts and Stephanie is going to lose her company and her freedom. Stephanie asks – for an accident? Jackie states that Donna saw it, and it wasn’t an accident. Stephanie says she doesn’t care what Donna thought she saw……but, she states that she loves her company and her family just as much as Jackie does hers. She knows she is angry and she has every right. She knows she is in pain, but eventually her body will heal and everything will return to normal. So what does she want to do….go to court, prosecute and have the jury look at her and say nothing is wrong? She honestly feels she is just over-reacting. Then Jackie wonders why she is there trying to crawl out of the trap that she damn well knows she is in? Stephanie says, “because on a simple human level, I’m concerned about you.” Jackie laughs – it just astounds her that Stephanie is so caught up in her own world…….that she doesn’t realize how transparent she is. “You are a bully.” And this is the way it is with bullies - they are as tough as nails until that day of reckoning …”and you plead…..and you apologize and you try to make deals, but this time……finally you are going to be held accountable for what you did….and if it means losing your company, then so be it. Because, I’m not going to let you bully anyone ever again!”
