Brooke walks in and faces Taylor at the Big Bear cabin. She wonders why Taylor is so mad at her! Taylor tells her maybe because she just had to tell her children that their parents couldn’t figure out a way to stay married. Then she walks away and says she is not going to play this charade with Brooke. Brooke asks how long ago did Ridge leave? Maybe it’s not too late. Taylor mocks, “what? Brooke to the rescue! You’re going to beg him to take me back?” Brooke offers that Ridge is hurt; he’s not thinking clearly. Taylor says well she is, and she motions with her hands – go, go do what she came there to do. But, just don’t insult her intelligence by pretending to be there as a friend….and not as a vulture.

Nick stumbles around in the dark getting back into the beach house and bumps his foot into something in the bedroom. Bridget turns the bedside lamp on and chides him that he might as well turn the light on before he breaks his leg. He asks what is she doing; lying there pretending to be sleeping? She asks if there is anything wrong with a pregnant lady watching her husband undress? She has to get her kicks where she can. He jokes it’s not a pretty package, and besides he’s been poking and stabbing himself in the dark all evening – the generator again. She moans that the boat needs some serious upgrading (foreshadowing?). He quips she might be saying that about him before too long. He unbuttons his shirt and sits on the edge of the bed beside Bridget. He tells her that her mother came by tonight and Brooke thinks that Ridge and Taylor are seriously going to call it quits tonight.

Ridge lets himself into Stephanie’s house and heads straight to the bar. She thinks it’s Eric and calls his name, only to be surprised and finds Ridge. She asks is he drinking? He replies no (he’s changed his mind. He pours himself some water and says he needs a clear head for this. She asks for what? He states he just drove back from Big Bear; it seemed longer than that. From a place where he was married to a woman with three teen-aged kids, and he broke all their hearts tonight. She asks, “and now you’ve come to break mine?” That’s right, he answers.

Brooke tells Taylor she does not want her husband. Taylor replies, “excuse me, you’ve made a LIFE out of wanting him. It’s what you do for a living!” Brooke states that Ridge is R.J.’s father, that’s all. Right now she is concerned about Taylor’s kids. Taylor says it is a little late for that. Brooke continues that they have waited like their whole lives for her, only to lose her again. Taylor snaps that she’s not falling off the face of the Earth. They aren’t going to lose HER! And she will see that they don’t lose their father, no matter how short a leash Brooke keeps on Ridge. Brooke follows her around and tells her again that she does not want him as any more than a friend and R.J.’s father, that’s all.

Taylor retorts that it never ceases to amaze her that Brooke actually believes what is coming out of her mouth. It won’t take a year…..it won’t take a month….gosh if she hadn’t just missed Ridge, it wouldn’t even take an hour. She mocks, “of course you’ll be with Ridge. DESTINY is probably knocking at your door right now as we speak. So GO….go let him in!”

In his cute little black boxers, Nicks crawls into bed. Bridget seems down as she hates to see people break up……even though she doesn’t think they should have been together in the first place. He states that her mom thinks perhaps they can salvage this. Bridget it shocked; her mom thinks Ridge belongs with Taylor? He states for the kids. She asks could he tell what Brooke was thinking about Ridge? He shakes his head no; he doesn’t think she was thinking of him. Bridget asks if he thinks it would be good for her to get back with Ridge? “Well, I wouldn’t like it. I don’t like the way he treats her,” says Nick. Bridget relays she doesn’t think that would happen now, because she is so different. Nick wonders how? She opines that she’s different because she respects herself now; she stands up for herself; she relies on her own abilities and not those that aren’t so reliable. She thinks Nick did that for her to make her see that strength in herself. Bridget adds he’s done the same for her too; it’s just something in the way he loves. They kiss and then she lays her head on his bare chest and cuddles. She says as much as she feels sorry for Taylor and the kids; this time she thinks there is a real chance for her mom and Ridge. (check out Nick’s face, Bridget, he doesn’t look too happy).

Stephanie tells Ridge that he looks tired. He confesses it hasn’t been the easiest of days. She answers all marriages have days like that. He twirls around to her and states that it is over between him and Taylor. She offers that he feels betrayed because of James. He differs; no, when he lost her to that bullet, he lost who HE needed to be – her husband. Then he berates his mother that she didn’t know that. Or she wouldn’t have tried to trick him into being that man again; it wasn’t going to work. Matter of factly, Stephanie says she sees. If he wants to blame somebody for this whole mess, then blame her. He accuses, when did she stop being his mother? She replies NEVER, not for a minute. He asks when did HIS happiness stop being more important than HER happiness at his expense. Because that is what she did in that hospital bed with all that faked death stuff. She points out that she has apologized for that, and thought she was doing what was best for everyone. He asks why doesn’t she act like his mother now and let it go? He doesn’t have that many more chances to be happy. She states that is ALL she has ever wanted for him. He tells her he was happy with Brooke, and she knew that, but she couldn’t stand it. Her jaw tightens.

Brooke tells Taylor she understands that she is upset, but she doesn’t appreciate being called a liar. Taylor fires back that she never called her a liar; Brooke's not THAT creative. Brooke laughs, okay, it was a mistake to come here. Taylor asks if she thought she was going to thank her for her concern? Psych 101 dropout could read this situation. She pretends to be the heroine rather than the home-wrecker that she is, so that when Ridge throws her over his shoulder, she can pretend she didn’t see it coming. Brooke retorts that if she had wanted Ridge, she could have had him by now! Taylor points out that is more like it. But, then she doesn’t like that reputation of the Forrester family whore anymore. “So now, when you make a grab for one of our men, you just pretend it’s something else.” Brooke asks if she is calling her a whore? Taylor continues – like her concern for HER children. And Brooke gets to go home looking innocent.

Brooke fires back too. She looks at the ceiling and wants to know which beam was it, this one, or that one? And where did she and James you know, do it? Was it the couch…or the floor? Taylor stares at her with contempt and says she would have NO concept of what happened between her and James. Brooke says, “yes, when I sleep with a man, I’m a whore, but when you do, it’s a beautiful sacrifice.” Taylor snorts that she doesn’t just sleep with a man; Brooke sleeps with a gene pool. First, the father, then the son, then the brother, then the half-brother and then she starts through the whole line-up again. “You can’t tell me that most normal people wouldn’t find that revolting!” And psychiatry hasn’t even come up with a name for her disorder. Brooke laments that there has always been one for Taylor’s – conceited bitch. Taylor turns around and gives her another ‘how dare you’ look.

Nick is still trying to convince Bridget that Ridge is all wrong for her mom. He has the ego of a whale and the attention span of a goldfish. Bridget agrees it’s hard to understand, but they work…..and it’s like they have this own little dialect that no one else understands but they get it perfectly. He gives a hrmpppppph look. She asks him to just please do her a favor and don’t be too hard on her mom, if it comes down to that. He offers that he will always want her mother to be happy, no matter what.

Brooke tells Taylor that she came there for Thomas, Steffy and Phoebe. She was a mother to those children. Taylor reminds her that she has thanked her for that. Brooks goes on, Taylor kicked her out of her own home, and looked the other way when Stephanie tried to bury her. Taylor reminds her that was AFTER she tried to steal her husband again! This victimization myth ideology of hers was something else. And her outrage at any obstacle in her quest for unlimited self-gratification. Brooke is astounded – the way Taylor treats people. She looks at them like they are specimens under a glass case. Taylor admits she is right. Her clinical training and her personal beliefs seem to get in the way of her honest gut feeling. “Namely, my common-sense wisdom that some people are just no damn good…….and you’re one of them!” Once again astounded, Brooke tells Taylor she never realized she had so much ugliness in her. But, she guesses that is the secret to her success. Nobody really knows her.

Taylor counters with that everybody knows Brooke. There is NOT a thought in her head that she doesn’t utter. Not an impulse that she doesn’t act out on. And all the while blaming it on some cosmic force – her DESTINY that she can’t resist. She guesses destiny has her in a bind this time, doesn’t it? Who’s it gonna be – Ridge or Nick? Brooke points out she has made a life for herself and her children without him or any man. (yeah, for about 5 minutes). Taylor extols yeah like a cow pie her life exists of men buzzing around her like flies. Wow, she must really be proud of herself for being able to congratulate herself and to say she hasn’t slept with her daughter’s husband….yet! Does Brooke think it’s really normal for any healthy woman to be attracted to her own son-in-law? And then Brooke comes here and expects her to believe she is NOT interested in Ridge? And this is all in the interest of Taylor’s children, which Brooke has shown NO interest in since the day she packed her bags and left the house in tears. Does Brooke want to see Taylor cry? Is that what brought her here? She spouts she hopes she made it worth the trip.

Stephanie bemoans to Ridge that he thought he was happy with Brooke, but look what she did to Eric. And how many times has he told her that Taylor was the LOVE of his life? She starts off on a rant, but he interrupts and tells her that he is in love with Brooke. He always has been. She tells him no; he has discovered that his wife is an imperfect and complex human being, just like the rest of them. She’s fallen off her pedestal and being with someone safe and simple-minded sounds……

Gruffly, he tells her to stop it and just listen to him. He hesitates before calmly saying that he’s going to ask Brooke to marry him…..and he thinks she will. With mouth agape and shaking her head, she tells him this is not the way the world works. You don’t end a marriage one day and propose to another the next. He states that his relationship with Brooke was cruelly interrupted, and he thinks they all know why. Stephanie points out that she is no more free to give herself to Ridge than she was to marry Eric. She says she doesn’t understand this dance she is doing with Nick, but plainly it is not over. He scowls that she never would have turned to Nick if he hadn’t walked away from her. “Decades, mother, for decades, Brooke and I have been waiting for our moment….it’s NOW.” Stephanie replies that she is listening, she really is, but for God’s sake, give himself some time to grieve.

Coldly, he tells her that he’s grieving about what this has done to his kids and to Taylor. And to a marriage that never should have been. He’s grieving because he gave up his happiness in favor of hers. He tells his mother that he can’t change her; he isn’t even going to try. She feels what she wants about Brooke, but to know this. She IS going to be his wife and Stephanie is going to have to treat her the way a woman treat’s her son’s wife….with respect and consideration. “Do you understand me? Or if hating Brooke is more important than my happiness to you, tell me right now.” And he goes further, if she forces him to choose between the two of them; he doesn’t think Stephanie will like the result.

Brooke tells Taylor that she used to think she was good. Taylor states she really is done with caring what Brooke thinks. Brooke says she never even blamed Taylor for what Stephanie said and did, even when it benefited her. She always thought she was too good and too nice to stand up to her…..but no, they were the same, just like her! Taylor laments there actually is a lot about Stephanie to admire. Brooke shoots down all those lofty moral principles while sneaking around and lying behind everybody’s back. Taylor and Stephanie felt justified in everything they did to Brooke. She counted for nothing; her marriage counted for nothing.

Taylor smarts that she might have shortcomings, but at least she has standards. Brooke says, “oh, my God, Stephanie said the exact same thing. You are going to end up old, bitter, and alone, just like Stephanie.” Taylor concedes that the reason she is alone is because of Brooke. Her hanging around the fringes of Taylor’s marriage. Her and her never-ending train of crisis, needing some man to help her sort it out; her hanging this bait over Ridge about R.J. Brooke shows her that Taylor is the only one to blame for the death of her deathbed marriage. Her vows were so fake. As fake as Stephanie’s heart attack. But, she hung on for dear life, plastering on that perfect smile, pretending to be the perfect little wife. “You know what, Taylor, men don’t like perfect. They like assurance, warmth, trust, a little FUN. Perfect is dead. You were more competition when you were in the grave than you were when you popped out of it.” And she wonders why Ridge misses Brooke, which, of course, she punished him for too.

Taylor faces her and tells her then go. Taylor can’t make him happy, so go give him her warmth. Go give him her comfort. Make him forget she’s given it to every man she’s known. She digs in her pocket and takes Brooke’s hand and slaps her wedding ring in the palm. She delights in telling her that she can save him a trip to the jewelers. How easy can she make this for her? The ring that was hers; the name that was hers. The last laugh on Stephanie, everything Brooke ever wanted dropped right into her lap. Is she too proud to take it? Taylor doesn’t think so.

Taylor claps, “well, congratulations, Brooke. Go…..go for it. Al those years of flirting, and begging, and wiggling and jiggling….it’s all finally paid off. So take Ridge, and score one for the WHORES of the world. And for the rest of us, God help us!” Brooke stands, cut to the quick.
