Still New Year’s at Tridge Manor, Taylor and Stephanie are arguing about should she or should she not tell Ridge that Taylor slept with James over twenty years ago? Stephanie is adamant, do NOT tell Ridge; he does not need to know about this. Taylor is suddenly of the mindset that she has to be completely honest if the marriage is going to survive. Stephanie lashes that Taylor’s right. It won’t survive. It will destroy a marriage because of one mistake that she made YEARS ago. Taylor offers that it is a mistake she has made every day since it happened by keeping the truth from her husband. Stephanie fires at her, “well, you won’t have a husband if you tell him about this. I know my son; he’ll leave. I’m telling you this marriage will be finished.”

At Forrester, Sally asks Thorne if he is serious about offering her the new position of executive assistant? He asks her if she saw anyone (the applicants earlier) any better? She replies nice try, but Sally Spectra is nobody’s charity case. Darla bends down to Sally’s level in wheelchair and pipes up that they told her this was not charity. Thorne tells her to think of it as a favor; a favor she will be doing him. They don’t teach what she knows in design school. She quips it’s a good thing or all those upstarts would be out of business just like her. Darla points out that she would have brought Spectra back if it had been for her accident. Sally smarts – aha, is this what this is really all about? The accident - feeling sorry for the old lady in the wheelchair? Thorne tells her she says old, but he sees experience; valuable experience that he needs on his team. He’s asking her, will she give him her help?

At Marone Industries, Nick pointblank asks Brooke if she is saying that she would want a future with Forrester? She sidesteps it by saying Ridge is still married to Taylor. He says she is making it sound like that won’t last very long. She agrees, it might not. He offers that no, especially if she tells him she saw his wife kissing another man. Brooke points out that Taylor said she was going to tell him herself. Nick tells her good, then let her. But, Brooke says that woman has a way of coming out of these things unscathed. He asks if this time she would like to see that come out differently? Brooke admits she wouldn’t mind seeing Stephanie go after someone else for a change.

Nick retorts that he’s not asking about Stephanie. He wants to know what is going on with Brooke! Let’s just say that Ridge and Taylor split; would Brooke want to get back together with him?, he asks.

Wringing hands, Taylor explains that she knows Ridge will be upset, but when she explains it to him……Stephanie interrupts and tells her that once she tells him she had sex with another man, he won’t hear one more word after that. Taylor offers that they were NOT lovers. They were colleagues. And they were trapped in a life threatening situation (oh, that makes it okay?)

Taylor has a flashback of she and James in the freezing cold, at Big Bear, trapped after an earthquake. They are huddled under a blanket they are sharing, side by side with their body heat, trying to survive. (I believe the story is he was a virgin and did not want to die a virgin). He moans, “Oh, Taylor. How many times I’ve dreamt of touching a woman like this. So soft; so supple.” We see her hand under the blanket massage something (and it ain’t his big toe!) and he has a look of ecstasy on his face as he continues, “My Taylor; my beautiful Taylor. My angel; I feel your life. I can feel your warmth.” She kisses him and tells him they will get through this somehow one way or the other.

Taylor tells Stephanie that she thought he was going to die. He told her he had always loved her. She did not know why she let happen what happened. It just did. She shrugs that she tried to push it out of her mind. She thought she could pretend it didn’t happen. But, it’s always been there. It’s been there all this time. And then the kiss with Hector, just brought it all to the surface, “What I did with James, it’s time I faced up to it, Stephanie.”

Sally questions if Thorne’s family would be okay with this? He answers that SHE is a part of his family. And Darla adds that she is sure Stephanie would love another friend around there. Sally remarks, “me and her royal toughness working side by side. I never thought I’d see that day!” They add that day is here and all she has to do is say yes. Sally is hesitant then adds she would. But, she loves them too much to sell them a bill of goods. A year ago they would have been getting a bargain. She was on top of her game; going full blast 24/7. But, she offers that she can’t work those hours anymore. And her memory is not what it used to be and it’s going to be a long, long time before they get any fancy footwork out of her. Thorne points to his brain and tells her she always did her best footwork up there. And if you ask him, she hasn’t lost a step. She’s still the best damn manager in the business. She’s a problem solver and a motivator and that is what he needs!

Reluctantly, she admits she does have a way with people. Darla hugs her and tells her they love her. Thorne urges her to please take the job. She comments that she won’t come cheap. She would need a company car and a driver; a handsome one…. with biceps. Thorne chuckles, folds his arms and tells her anything she wants! Darla laughs and thanks her.

Stephanie sits besides Taylor and calmly tells her that she realizes this situation with Hector has brought up a lot of emotions. And she realizes that Taylor feels guilty. And she knows Taylor thinks she will feel better if she tells the truth, but she won’t. Taylor tells her she is telling the truth because it’s the right thing to do. But, Stephanie wants to know for whom? Who is going to benefit from this confession? NOBODY! At one time she was going to tell Ridge about James. She was going to show him the letter. But, it was Taylor’s father that begged her not to. He was absolutely convinced it would ruin the marriage. And in retrospect, Stephanie thinks he was right. Taylor shrugs; says she has been in denial with this long enough. It’s time she deals with it.

Stephanie implores her; if she wants to face what happened, then face what JUST happened. But, don’t talk about James. And for God’s sake, face the real issue – Brooke. Brooke seeing her kiss Hector. Taylor tells her again; she is going to tell Ridge about that. She gestures that she forced Ridge into counseling. She asked him to be completely honest about his feelings for Brooke. And if they are going to have a marriage that really works, it has to cut both ways. Stephanie answers and it should and will….in the future. He will understand about Hector. He can accept a mistake; one mistake. But if she tells him about James and the fact that she kept it from him all these years, he won’t accept that from her!

Taylor nervously rubs her neck. The phone rings and it’s Ridge calling her Doc. He says he’s at the airport. She thinks Paris; he replies no, L.A. The driver is putting the bags in the car right now and he’s told him to take every shortcut between there and Beverly Hills because he can’t wait to see his beautiful wife. Shyly, she says she can’t wait to see him too. They have a lot to talk about. The women exchange a glance; both are apprehensive.

Brooke doesn’t know what Nick wants her to say. He replies – the truth; he’s asking. She replies that no, she does not want a future with Ridge. And she can not think of any other guy right now, and Nick knows why. She sinks on the couch and purrs, “my heart still belongs to you, Nick……maybe a part of it always will.” Uncomfortable, he tells her not to say anymore. She replies he wanted to know. And that he’d touched her like no man ever had. And she really believed for one perfect moment that they would have a life together. She saw it on the boat; their future, their family. He admits he saw it too. But, she adds, now he has a future with Bridget and he has his own family to worry about –the baby and Dominick. And she has her family. Ridge will always be the father of R.J. and she thinks he should be a strong presence in his life. He asks what about hers? What about her life? She replies that Hope and R.J. need the stability she had when married to Ridge. And considering the way she has been feeling lately, maybe so does she. They both look a little more saddened by that statement.

After Sally is gone, Darla corners Thorne and asks him if he really was interviewing people for this job, or was this a setup? He remarks that it was a real interview. She goes hmmmmmmm? He then admits okay, maybe he forgot to call in the most qualified of the candidates. She calls him sneaky. He says selfish. She tells him he does not have a selfish bone in his body! He replies no, just wait until Ridge, Dad and Brooke don’t give him the respect he deserves; Sally will get them in line. They remark it will be good to have somebody else on their side and look how happy it made Sally. Thorne says that’s the way he’d like all his employees. She boasts that not only is he the smartest president Forrester has ever had, but the sweetest. She touches his face and then gives him a big, juicy kiss. He grabs her completely off the floor by her tush as she wraps her legs around his waist and he plops her down on his desk where they exchange several passionate kisses.

Stephanie heard enough to know Ridge is on his way home. And Taylor admits that she’d like some time alone with him, if Stephanie doesn’t mind. She’s absolutely made up her mind. She is going to tell him about both James and Hector. Seriously, Stephanie tells her then she might as well tell him to leave his bags in the car, because he will not be staying the night. Taylor asks if she has that little faith in their marriage? Stephanie counters that she has all the faith in the world in their marriage. Why does she think she fought so hard to keep the two of them together? She knows what they bring to each other’s lives. Taylor differs. That is the way it used to be. It hasn’t been like that in a long time, and there is a reason for that. Stephanie states it is because they have been apart. But, here they are, will be together and this is their moment. This is the moment to try and rebuild this marriage. Taylor still thinks that the only way to do that is based on absolute trust.

Stephanie asks about Brooke. Does Taylor think she won’t make a move on him if he reacts the way Stephanie thinks he will? Taylor replies that Brooke is not the problem in this marriage. She hasn’t been for a long time. Stephanie reminds her that she will be. She saw her kiss Hector. She smells blood. ”You give him one reason to walk out this door, and I’m telling you, she’ll be right at him snapping at his heels.”

Nick asks Brooke if that is what she wants? Her and the dressmaker, a happy little family ALL over again? She confesses that he should know there is no greater happiness for a mother than to see her children safe and secure. He scoffs, safe? Is that what she’d be with Forrester, safe? She maintains she thinks she would feel more secure with him right now than Taylor does. Nick wants to know what the hell does that mean? Just because she said she was going to tell him, doesn’t mean she is going to. And Brooke smarts that even if she does, her halo is always Teflon coated. He reminds her she did catch her kissing another man. Brooke reminds him it is just her word against Taylor’s. What reason does she have for lying? She is sure Stephanie will find one. She’d say Brooke wanted Ridge back or that she was punishing Taylor for taking the job at Forrester. Nick doesn’t think Stephanie could defend Taylor this time if she is cheating on him. Brooke says she could if it meant keeping her and Ridge apart. Even if Taylor and Ridge don’t want to be together, and right now it looks like they don’t. Because, Taylor was fooling around with another man, and Ridge didn’t even bother to come home for the holidays. Nick finally succumbs and says maybe she would do everybody some good by just getting it all out in the open; he doesn’t know. She asks but is it the RIGHT thing to do? That’s why she had come there – to ask his advice. She begs him to please tell her what to do. She NEEDS to know if she is justified in telling Ridge, or is she just trying to get even with Stephanie and Taylor? He comments that the results are going to be the same either way. Brooke wonders if she would be stooping to their level? He tells her it’s a little hard to stoop that low unless she is planning on faking a heart attack. She maintains she only wants to tell the truth. He admits that maybe they could use a little dose of that. So she surmises that he’d do it? He tells her she knows how he never liked secrets. But, it was her call and whatever she decided, she’d have his support. She tells him she guesses that is why she really came there. She’d been feeling on her own lately and she just needed to know she wasn’t. He tells her she wasn’t. And as long as he’s around, she never will be. She complies okay. If Taylor won’t tell him the truth, then she will tell him herself.

At the open door, Taylor tells Stephanie, okay she tried the guilt trip. Now they are down to scare tactics. Stephanie states she should be scared. Because if she tells Ridge, she’s telling her, she’ll end her marriage. Or make it stronger, muses Taylor. Stephanie questions her that if Ridge came home tonight and confessed he’d had sex in Paris with a woman, would she feel secure? How would she feel? She confides Ridge has made his share of mistakes and she has forgiven him, so she knows he will forgive her. But, Stephanie asks what if she is wrong? Taylor tells her she knows Ridge loves her. She knows the passion they had when she first came back and she still thinks they can get that back. Stephanie thinks that is wonderful. She speaks passionately. Why don’t they go away? The two of them go away tonight, on a vacation? Go to St. Thomas or to Hawaii, she doesn’t care. Go anywhere, but don’t talk about James. “I’m begging you. And it’s not just for you and Ridge. Think about the children. Don’t do this!”

Ridge bounds through the open door and declares himself home. Stephanie greets him with a kiss and he heads straight to Taylor and jokes if this is his wife, right? “My wife, I have missed you so much.” He cups her neck and kisses her. Sheepishly, she tells him she missed him too. He tells her no more holiday business trips. From now on, he’s staying right there where he belongs. He then remembers that he got so excited, he forgot the stuff in the limo. For her not to go away, he’ll be right back. He literally skips out. This gives Stephanie a last second chance to shake her finger at Taylor and warn her that if she wants to keep this marriage, do NOT tell him about James. She would not be able to repair the damage that this STUPID confession will bring out. And neither could Taylor.

Ridge returns and puts his bags down and tells his mother as much as he loves her…..She gets the message; she’s leaving. He turns to Taylor then and says he is never, never, never going to leave her again. He feels like he’s been gone forever. “So tell me; tell me what’s been going on. Tell me everything I’ve missed.” (oh, you’ll be sorry you asked this).

They hug. Taylor looks over his shoulder and Stephanie has a worried look on her face staring back at Taylor.
