New Year’s Day

At Brooke’s, she pauses on the stairs as she descends, thinking back to what Stephanie said about Taylor bringing back class to this company. And stability to the family; she was an example for her children! You’d never see her on the cover of some tabloid in the supermarket. She was a woman of unimpeachable integrity. Then Brooke remembers what she just saw last night – Hector and Taylor kissing in Taylor’s bedroom and the panicked look on Taylor’s face when she spotted Brooke. She’s jerked back to reality with the ringing of the doorbell, to find that it is Taylor……again.

At the Forrester guest house, Felicia also opens her door to find Dante. He smiles and asks if it is too early for a visit? She replies that obviously he isn’t the parent of a five month old. He remarks that Dominick must be keeping her up. She answers that yeah, but his nanny took him out already to the park, so “handsome, what brings you by?” He hands her a bottle of wine and walks on in. She looks at it and declares that it is her favorite brand; how did he know? He flashes those dimples and says he thinks she was drinking this when they met. In that case, she surmises, and she starts to open it. He questions that, isn’t it a little early? And she relays that she is living on borrowed time anyway. And when he doesn’t think it would be such a good idea in her condition, she jokes that she is not pregnant, just dying. And she’s not going to keel over from a glass of bubbly, okay? “Old Felicia is not ready to check out quite yet!”

Darla seeks out Hector at the fire station. She finds him shirtless mauling the punching bag. She stands a while to admire the view until he spots her and stops. She remarks it doesn’t hurt to look, does it? And he replies as long as she doesn’t bite. Awkwardly, she apologizes for interrupting his workout, but asks how are things? He answers that work is fine, but……he knows that is not the real reason she is here. Again, she apologizes but wants to know how was his New Year’s Eve? She doesn’t want to pry, but is afraid the last time she spoke to him she may have said some things she shouldn’t have. He asks if she means by “going for it with Taylor?” She replies yes and that marriages really should be respected, and that she guesses she just let her feelings for Ridge get the better of her. They seem to be on the same page. He offers that if a husband can’t be bothered to spend time with his wife on the holidays, then he really doesn’t deserve her, right? He towels off and puts his shirt on. She wonders how he knew that Ridge wasn’t there for New Year’s? He replies because he was there…..at her house. Darla thinks maybe they should just keep this between the two of them. But, Hector tells her too late, Brooke already knows. She found the two of them together last night.

Taylor doesn’t wait for an invite; she comes on in, telling Brooke she never gave her an answer last night. She says she is not playing games and she’s not going to be put off. This is too important. They bicker back and forth about ‘the affair with Hector.’ Brooke sees it as Taylor being caught with a hunky fireman in a compromising situation and Taylor offers that it was NOT compromising and she’s already given her side of the story. She’s going to tell Ridge when he gets back, but she also wants Brooke’s assurance that she isn’t going to stick her nose into this and stir the pot by telling him first. Emphatically, she tells her to stay out of this and don’t try to make this into something it’s not!

Yes, Brooke understands that Taylor wants all to believe that she was left high and dry on New Year’s by Ridge, but she believes there is more to it than that. Because, Hector stood there in front of everybody and declared his love for her. And she doesn’t think he seems like a guy who would pursue a married woman unless he was encouraged. Taylor denies that; she did not encourage Hector. Brooke asks shall they ask him? Taylor tells her no, they will not ask him because Brooke is going to stay out of this! Brooke counters that no she’s not. She was married to Ridge. She shared a life with him. She has a child with him. And if Taylor thinks she will just turn her head so she and Hector can have their fun……Taylor argues there is NOTHING going on between her and Hector. “There is no Hector and me.” It’s nothing like Brooke is insinuating.

Brooke reminds her if she was in the same situation, Taylor certainly wouldn’t cut her a break….her or Stephanie. So, why should she be quiet and do her a favor……after the way they have treated her?

Hector admits he was comforting Taylor. There was a kiss and that’s what Brooke walked in on. He realizes how that sounds, but that’s all, nothing happened. Darla tells him that she knows how he feels about Taylor. An innocent kiss? She also knows how Brooke feels about Taylor so you can bet she will say something. He thinks that might be for the best. And he doesn’t feel he is breaking up this house; Ridge is. And it can’t go on like this. Taylor can’t go on like this.

Darla reminds him that more than a marriage is at stake. There are children; children who need both parents, a mother and a father. Hector slams a folder down and reminds her that a father who was so self-involved he couldn’t bother to fly home and be with his children…..or his wife on their first Christmas home together in years? Taylor’s return was a miracle. For God’s sake, how could Ridge not be there to celebrate?…..especially this time of year when it’s all about miracles. So, let Brooke go to him with whatever she thinks she knows. Maybe this will finally set Taylor free to start a whole new life….a better life….a life with him.

Taylor says she is not Stephanie. But Brooke tells her they both know how she feels about Taylor. It’s Taylor, the saint. Taylor can do no wrong. Taylor the only one moral enough to be with her precious son. “Taylor, Taylor, Taylor. Do you know how many years I’ve heard that?” How Brooke couldn’t live up to her. She was the slut from the Valley and she should be ashamed. She asks Taylor if she knows how that feels like, hearing it day in and day out that your life counts for nothing? That she should just blow her brains out rather than inflicting herself on anyone else? But, Stephanie never said one bad word about Taylor. Taylor offers that doesn’t mean she doesn’t think that Stephanie hasn’t gone too far at times. But, Brooke counters with she certainly never came to her defense. She adds she would never wish that woman on her worst enemy.

Taylor tells her she is not her enemy although it might have seemed that way at times. She fought to come back to Ridge only to find out that Brooke had married him. Because in her heart she felt they were still married, so she fought for him. Brooke reminds her that she got it because Stephanie helped her by faking a heart attack. But, now it hasn’t turned out to be the marriage that she expected. Taylor admits they have their troubles but she knows they can work on those problems. Brooke opines that she MADE Ridge the problem. She kicked him out of the house because he wasn’t over Brooke yet. She made him go to counseling. She offers but there is more to the story and after what she saw last night, it’s not too hard to figure out. She tells Taylor this isn’t about her or Ridge, it’s about her. Taylor is the reason her marriage is falling apart…..maybe because “you’re in love with another man?”

Felicia and Dante share a glass of wine and she calls him tall, dark and studly. Was it fate that they ran into each other the other day? He doesn’t know, but he apologizes for not knowing about her condition. She shakes it off that he couldn’t have known. The last time they saw each other was that night at the disco when she got plastered and he walked her home. And he shouldn’t pretend it’s such a big deal. It’s actually kind of nice, spending some time with someone who isn’t so close to her that will be devastated that she is checking out so soon. She remarks how she had led her life with gusto, and that was enough….until she got pregnant and that changed everything. And then the only thing that mattered was that her baby boy was going to be healthy, and thank God he was. And the first time they put him in her arms was the first time she felt love so completely that she could hardly breathe. He asks about Nick. Has becoming a father changed him much? She answers yes from the first moment he held his son. How could it not? They are past the surprise now and she’s just relieved that her son is going to grow up with Nick and Bridget. Two parents that would be there for him, nurture him and protect him the way that she would…..if it weren’t for “this damn cancer!”

Taylor tells Brooke she is not even going to dignify that because Brooke is purposely twisting things. Brooke goads her – so she is NOT in love with Hector. Taylor replies no, she is committed to her marriage and her husband. Yes, they have problems and they will solve them because they love each other and they have a family to preserve. Again they argue because Brooke feels Taylor didn’t respect her marriage when Taylor came back or the fact that she asked her to respect the fact that she had children by Ridge. She only thought of her children at the expense of Brooke’s, even though she took care of Thomas and the girls like they were her own the entire time Taylor was gone. Taylor tells her she was grateful. But, not grateful enough, moans Brooke. She doesn’t know how much R.J. misses her father and here she is, “oh woe is me, Taylor.” Taylor laughs at her. What, she is now acting like she has been sitting there pining away for Ridge all these months? When the very next moment she is telling Nick that he’s her destiny!

Brooke shouts that what happened with Nick happened because Taylor broke up her marriage. Taylor accuses her of doing this, to settle the score by destroying her marriage. This is payback? If it is, then Stephanie has been right about her all along.

Felicia apologizes but Dante tells her it’s okay. She’s got a great kid and she is going to miss out on raising him. But he offers comfort that at least he’ll be left in good hands with his father and Bridget. She knows he is close to Bridget so she wonders if he has a problem with her asking her to raise another woman’s child? He remarks that when Nick and Bridget were going through some hard times, he was prepared to raise another man’s child. She senses that he is still in love with Bridget. And he tells her that she is still in love with Nick. She smiles, so what does that make them - losers? She makes the capital L on her forehead with thumb and forefinger. He says he prefers losers at love. She laughs and says not for long. Some sweet, sexy little thing will come steal his heart and make him go ‘Bridget who?’ He succumbs to maybe, but right now he’s just liking getting to know her better. She warns him to be careful; a girl could fall fast for those dimples. He flashes them and asks would that be so bad? She offers it might be her last breath, but then what a way to go!

Darla is feeling terrible. She thinks if she had just kept her big mouth shut, Hector might not have gone over to Taylor’s. He tells her he knows she doesn’t want to see a family torn apart and neither does he. But, sometimes it just is for the best. He confides that Caitlin’s mother was a socialite. She was driven by material things, like Ridge. They were incompatible; no one was happy. And that’s just the way it is with Taylor. She deserves so much better. Darla declares yet she stays with Ridge. Hector says well there is loyalty, and then there is loyalty to a fault. Which is what he hopes Taylor is starting to realize. He confesses that he loves her. He doesn’t know when it happened or how, but he’s not going to feel guilty or ashamed that he’s doing the right thing. Because if you want something in life, you do have to go for it. “I am going to make this happen. Taylor and I are going to be together, Darla. It’s meant to be.”

Brooke tells Taylor she is glad she brought up Stephanie. What would she say to know Taylor had been unfaithful? Taylor reminds her she has not been unfaithful. Brooke wonders if Ridge would see it that way? Taylor asks if that is a threat? Brooke will only admit to if she said a few well chosen words, she could end her marriage like that (snaps fingers). With the added bonus of shutting up Stephanie for good…..unless, of course, Stephanie wanted to defend her. But, if she wanted to protect him, she’d have to turn on Taylor. Wonder what other sins she had committed that they didn’t know about? Taylor comments that Brooke would actually destroy her life and her children’s lives just so Brooke could have her revenge?

Brooke hammers away that this isn’t revenge. And don’t dare suggest she would hurt Thomas or the girls. She loves them and always will. And Taylor didn’t win Ridge. Stephanie won him for her. It’s a flawed marriage and will be flawed forever. Because she did something behind Ridge’s back. Something he should know about. Taylor starts to interrupt but Brooke goes on, “no, you listen to me. Hector thinks you deserve better. Well I think Ridge does.” Taylor thinks Brooke means herself and shouts that he’s her husband so Brooke should back off. No words, Brooke gives her a gloated look. Taylor offers that if she loves her children and Ridge as much as she says she does, why doesn’t she take the higher ground and stay out of this? Brooke asks – and Ridge? Taylor says she will tell him because unlike what Brooke thinks, she wants her marriage.

The baby cries and Brooke looks toward the upstairs. She says poor little R.J., Taylor has no idea how much he misses his father. A father that was STOLEN from him. Brooke turns on a dime and marches upstairs with Taylor pleading with her not to do this. Please stay out of this, she begs. She cries not to interfere with her marriage, please!
