Same day continuation from Wednesday’s episode:

In the woods at Big Bear, holding on to each other, Brooke and Nick face each other, driven by passion. He tells her it shouldn’t be this hard. She laments when is she going to be able to wake up and not think about him? He tells her that day will never come for him. Tears stream down her face.

At Spectra, Gaby tells Taylor she has never been told she’s not good enough. Taylor looks squarely at her and says Thomas already has been taken advantage of once before by Amber, and she was not going to let that happen again. “You can not have my son, Gaby!”

Also at Big Bear Forrester Cabin, Ridge waits with Stephanie carrying a tray from the kitchen asking if he’d like some fresh lemonade and she baked some cookies. He replies no thanks. She tells him she is awfully glad he came…..she didn’t think he would. He hesitates and then says…..well, they had been wondering.

She says, “yeah, I can imagine. When a nuclear warhead is loose, the family, the troops don’t sleep very well until they find out where it is.” She hands him a glass of lemonade and he takes it. He offers that his Dad is expecting a few explosives to be lobbed in his direction. As she sits, she says he was right. And he was right to turn tail and head in the other direction. They all were. And she tells him what she’s been doing; going to Redlands every day and she volunteers at a homeless shelter. She’s the lady who cleans up after breakfast and keeps coffee going all day. Ridge asks what moved her to do that? She remarks he may have forgotten but she has a little knowledge with homelessness. And people’s stories aren’t really so different; they abandoned their families or their families abandoned them. And even though she has a roof over her head, she realized she really is adrift and homeless without all of them. When she comes home, she adds, she is going to volunteer down at one of the shelters in L.A. She thinks she might be able to help some people….and it will keep her from brow-beating the people she loves with help they don’t want. He says sounds like her time there has been good for her. She stands and says you know you love your children. And you don’t want to see them hurt. You don’t want to see them make mistakes, but that’s life. You can’t live your lives for them. All you can do is get on with your own. Which means letting go of him…….. and Brooke. He looks a little skeptical but very intent on what she says.

Brooke walks away and tells Nick that time will be their friend. Every day, it will get easier and easier. He tells her she keeps saying that, but that’s not the way it is for him. And he knows it’s not that way for her. She walks in the sunlight toward him. She admits that no, she can’t stop thinking about him or wanting him. Her love for him will never change. But what she loves most about him right now is the way he is loving her. And that can’t change either. He asks in what way is that? She approaches even closer and whispers by loving his wife too much to betray her.

Gaby explains to Taylor that she doesn’t want to be her enemy; she’s her mother-in-law. Taylor says no, she’s not. Gaby says she doesn’t understand. Taylor was willing to lie for her when she thought their marriage was a lie, but now that it’s real, she can’t face the truth about it. Taylor says the truth is she played on Thomas’ sympathy to trap him. Gaby tells her their marriage is as real as hers; at least they are together. Ouch! Taylor states that now she’s going to use ugly comments after everything nice she’s done for her? (What would Taylor say in justification of her to keep calling Gaby an alien?) Gaby says she is sorry, but Thomas and his dad had an agreement. Why can’t she honor that? Taylor interjects that a fashion contest is childish and it solves absolutely nothing. And if she thinks it’s going to gain her acceptance into the family, she’s wrong! Gaby says it could also get her instantly deported. Did Taylor really, really want hating her to get in the way of what she wanted for her son? Taylor says no, what she doesn’t want is a teenage marriage. And despite what she thinks, she doesn’t hate her. She states she really feels for her and she would still love to be able to help her. But, as long as she is married to her son, she can not do that.

Ridge tells Stephanie he thought they could have a conversation without Brooke’s name coming up. Guess that wasn’t possible. She says she is sorry. She was actually trying to be diplomatic and tell him she wasn’t going to interfere. She’d called the house and found out from Steffy that he’d moved out, and she just assumed……He replies it had nothing to do with Brooke and he wasn’t with her. Brooke had thrown herself back into her work, and had other goals now. She nods; must be nice for Eric to have her to rely on. Ridge sets her straight; it’s just a business relationship, that’s all. Steph laughs and says she guesses she just can’t remember a time when Brooke didn’t have her eye on one man or the other in the family. Could he? He points out that she’s dating a friend of Massimo’s – Dante. And the point is she is no threat to Steph or any of the rest of them. So, if she can’t accept that, she might as well stay up there and bake her cookies. Because none of the rest of them wanted to hear it anymore.

Brooke sits on the bench and asks Nick how did the pictures of the wedding turn out? He tells her if she decides, he’s sure Bridget will show them to her. Brooke asks if she is happy as she seems? Nicks says he thinks so; he hopes so. He sits as well. She asks about him. He looks at her and says he has trouble when he’s alone. To which, she replies maybe he shouldn’t be alone. He says he thinks about the night on the Marlin when they’d said they’d never let each other go. She moves toward him and says she never meant to break that promise. He is on his knees, cupping her face, fighting his every fiber of being not to grab her and kiss her all over. He says for those few moments they had everything they wanted. She cries she thinks of that night too. She tried not to, but how could she wish that the happiest night of her life never really happened.

Taylor walks into the house just as Steffy and Phoebe are going at it tooth and nail; even physically fighting over something. Taylor tells them to knock it off. She heard one call the other a liar. And Steffy had said Phoebe needed counseling; and Phoebe said Steffy needed anti-freak medication. Taylor asks since when is the word counseling a bad word? And just because their dad didn’t want to do it, didn’t make it a bad thing. Phoebe fesses that she borrowed $50 and Steffy blabs that she took it without asking and that she wants to buy the answers to their trig test tomorrow. Taylor asks if this is true. Phoebe says it’s just one test, and everybody does it. Taylor tells her she needs the name of this teacher and guess she will have to meet with him. Phoebe throws her purse on the table and plops down on the couch and says fine. Steffy rats more that Phoebe is afraid Taylor will find out the teacher has been sending home notes saying she’s flunking. Taylor asks why doesn’t she know about these notes? Steffy says because she signs Taylor’s name and takes them back. Phoebe tells her to shut up. And tells her she is such a witch. Exasperated, Taylor tells Phoebe just go to her room, please go! Phoebe says she doesn’t even know why she has to be there; nobody else wants to live with her. Double ouch! Steffy half way tries to smooth it over by saying it’d be just as bad if Dad was here, he spoils her rotten. Taylor tells Steffy to go up and tell Phoebe she will talk to her after she starts dinner. Steffy says all Phoebe really wants is to be like Taylor. Taylor rubs her face and says that would not have been her guess. Steffy adds because she is smart and a doctor and all the boys think she is hot. Taylor thanks her for that vote of confidence. Steffy thanks her for being their mom, even though things are so horrible. They hug.

Stephanie tells Ridge when he’s right, he’s right. She can’t allow herself to blame Brooke for everything. He tells her they know she loves them, but she holds on too tightly. Look what happens when she lets go – absolutely nothing. They just all kept going, and they figure it out. She says she knows; how is Taylor? He shrugs that she’s expecting things from him, but he can only be who he is. She says she’s not so sure. She feels like one of those snakes that’s shedding that long, long skin (she demonstrates); getting rid of that armor you wear for protection. “I really wish I could be that person I was a long time ago. Honey, I often think that growing up is just losing the fear of losing. Does that make any sense?” He takes a sip of lemonade and tells her sometimes he thinks she makes too damn much sense. He’d better get back before nightfall. She tells him, of course, drive carefully. And she offers that maybe they can see a little more of each other, since she won’t be talking about Brooke. He replies that would help. She points at him and says she’s looking on the bright side of things. Sooner or later she’s got to get menopause. He shakes his head, out the door and tells her to take care. She laughs, then adds that Steffy said Bridget finally got married. If he had any wedding pictures, she’d appreciate it if he’d e-mail them to her. He said she got it! Last word was that she loved him.

In their anguish, Brooke says this is wrong. But, Nick tells her being with her never seems wrong to him. He kisses her hands, nuzzles her hair, cups her face as she says if it’s just a few accidental moments, it’s all right. They have to learn not to make it harder on each other because this is the way it’s going to be. The only way they are going to be together is if by chance. They hear a car and Nick jumps up and asks if anyone is staying at the cabin; they should leave. She remarks that if anybody is there; they shouldn’t take a chance they’d be seen together.

Stephanie walks by the window and looks out. Something finally catches her attention. She goes and gets the binoculars. Yep, there they are – Brooke and Nick almost in each other’s arms.

He tells her maybe she can bring Hope by sometime. She says no, he just needs to focus on Bridget. She’s a much better woman than she is. And she was going to make him happy. And their love will always be there; just not in the way they hoped. He caresses her face as she slowly slips away. He doesn’t want to let go of her hand. He slowly sinks to the bench, a lost man. Stephanie watches.

At Taylor’s, the doorbell rings. She is astonished to find him leaning on the door and asks why is he ringing the doorbell. He asks if he should just barge on in? She says she needs a husband, not a visitor. And unless he is there for that, then he might as well go back to Brooke, as she is trying to do all she can to hold her family together. He says he hasn’t seen Brooke except at the office. Taylor says she knows; she called and he wasn’t there. Neither was Brooke though, and Megan felt the need to mention it. He says well he spent the afternoon with his mother…Hell must have frozen over because she claims she’s gotten Brooke out of her system. Taylor exclaims WOW, three cheers for Stephanie. He wonders if a marriage counselor could do the same for them? She looks at him in amazement.

Bridget is in kitchen stirring a dish on the stove. She has on the weirdest, looks like black bathing suit with a huge cut out around upper waist, with a bright orange apron, almost Halloweenish. Nick comes aboard and she can tell he’s bothered as he sweeps into her arms rather roughly and literally grabs her and won’t let her go; making her lips his. (Me thinks she's going to get lucky with some fringe benefits of his being hot and bothered with Brooke).

Brooke is at her desk when there is a knock at the door. She calls out to come in and assumes it is Megan. Then she looks up and sees it’s Stephanie, “oh.” Stephanie tells her she always thought her office was too easy to get into. Does she find that the case now that it is hers? Stephanie asks if she wants to hear something funny? She hasn’t thought of her once the entire time she was gone. Brooke deadpans, what’s so funny about that? She hadn’t thought of her either. Stephanie smiles and says touché. She had a realization today. You know how she’s always worrying about her children, and as everybody thinks, interfering with their lives….she realized the truth be known. She can be more useful to the next generation. Brooke retorts – if their parents will let her anywhere near them. And if she will excuse her, she has a lot of work to do. Stephanie asks if she wants to know where she’s been?

Brooke asks if she looks like she wants to know where she’s been? Stephanie ignores Brooke’s disinterest and says she was up at Big Bear; she loves that cabin. She’s always loved it, from the terrace. Guess what she saw just today? Brooke leans toward her and replies, “squirrels?” Stephanie sighs and leans in too and says, “lovers….liars…..cheats….My God, you’re after her second husband.” Brooke says she doesn’t know what she THINKS she saw…… Stephanie reveals nothing new, and that’s the sad part. She’s pregnant with his baby, and Brooke is going to steal her husband. Brooke stands and states that is a lie. Stephanie rises too and says of all the lousy things she could do.

Brooke picks up the phone and tells her to get out or she’s going to call security. Stephanie replies, “honey, you can call Satan and all the armies out of Hell. You’re not going to get rid of me. I am not going to let you do this to Bridget again.” She looks her in the eye with determination and presses her finger on the telephone receiver button to disconnect.
