Thorne is waiting to hear Eric say that Ridge's new line is a no-go. Ridge is waiting for him to say it's a go. There's a silence in the room, and Thorne tells his dad to take more time. Ridge says he doesn't need to, he's already made up his mind. Knowing glances pass between Ridge and Eric, and Thorne is beginning to look like he's just been stabbed in the back.
Thomas gets home from school and finds Brooke on the phone with the printer. The wedding invitations are finished! (Good Lord.) Thomas holds up the picture of their last wedding, and asks Brooke to promise him that this time she and his father won't dress in Halloween costumes. Brooke tells him that this time they're thinking of going with a Scottish theme. She tells him that when he has time she needs him to get measured for a kilt. He stumbles over his words as he chokes out "WHAT?" Brooke, unable to keep a straight face, bursts out laughing. "You're lucky I like you." Says Thomas. Brooke tells him that wasn't always the case. He says he's too stubborn for his own good. She says he gets that from his father. He tells her he really likes having her as a mom. She's touched, and gives him a hug and tells him he's sweet. They talk about how amazing it is how things came together. Thomas says he was just talking about that with Caitlin. Brooke recognizes the name and tells Thomas that they must have a lot in common. "More and more every day!" He says with a big smile.
Rick and Caitlin stop by Rick's house to pick up some papers he left there. As she walks in, her breath is taken away by the beauty of the house. She says it's like a castle, and if she had a house like that she would never leave it. Rick says it doesn't matter what your house looks like if there's no one to come home to. She can't believe Rick lives there alone. He says that it was his mother's house, but she's moved in with Ridge. Caitlin obviously feels pity for him that he seems so lonely.
Thorne is very upset that his father is even considering allowing Ridge to produce the new line. "This is a huge decision!" He says, adding that they need to take the time to properly consider a decision. Ridge says they don' t have that time, that if they're going to make it happen they've gotta do it now. Thorne says he's talking about millions and millions of dollars, and changing the entire direction of the company, "You can't do that on impulse!" He says. Stephanie agrees with him. Ridge begins to make fun of Thorne's decision making process. "Crunching numbers? Calling in focus groups?" He asks. Thorne says, yes, to start. Ridge says he doesn't need that to tell him what he already knows inside. "Which is what?" Asks Eric. "This line is a winner, it's going to take Forrester to places we've never been before." He says. Stephanie says she shudders to think where. "I'll tell you where we are now," Says Thorne. "We are back on track and producing the gowns that made us great." He says. Ridge says they can do both. Thorne says it will spread them too thin, as well as confuse their customers. Ridge says that Thorne is nuts, and that he isn't giving neither the customers nor his dad enough credit. Stephanie tells Ridge to stop putting Thorne down for trying to take a level-headed approach to business, and "you're just off and running." Ridge is getting more and more frustrated that they just don't accept what he wants to do with no questions asked. Stephanie tells him the company is still paying for a lot of Ridge's mistakes. "Oh here we go again, bashing Brooke!" He says. Stephanie says it has nothing to do with Brooke. She says he wants the company to commit millions and millions of dollars based on your gut. "I have serious questions about your judgment." She says. "I don't." Says Eric. "Dad!" Says Thorne. Eric tells Thorne to listen to his brother. He says Ridge is an artist, and when an artist has this kind of belief and enthusiasm you listen, you embrace his ideas, and you run with them. Thorne asks him what about all they talked about? About restoring their image, their bread. "I have faith in your brother's talent, he won't let us down." Says Eric. He extends he hand out to Ridge and says "The youth line is a go." Thorne looks at their handshake with disdain, and walks out of the room. Stephanie looks at Thorne walking out with sadness.
Thomas says it will be awesome to have Caitlin back at Forrester. Brooke says she knows Ridge has some big plans for her. He says they were just going in to meet with him when he left. Brooke says he should have stuck around to see what happened. He says he promised Brooke he would baby sit. He says that as long as he gets to see Caitlin at Forrester everyday, he's a happy man.
Rick is still looking for some paperwork at his house. Caitlin tells him that her first project when she is back interning is to get him organized. He's surprised she thinks she will be interning. He says that Ridge didn't call her into that meeting just to be someone's gofer. "Do you know what Ridge has in mind for me?" She asks. He says he might. She begs him to tell her. He says he doesn't want her to get her hopes up. She promises she won't. He says that Ridge is working on a new youth line. She says she already knows that. He says he wants to base it on her designs, with her as the spokesperson. She thinks he's kidding. She fumbles to try to come up with something to say, finally settling on "Can he do that?" Rick says it never pays to bet against Ridge, but for her to cross her fingers just in case. He takes her hand, and crosses her fingers for her as she smiles at him.
Eric is on the phone calling together a meeting with all the department heads, and asks his secretary to also track down Caitlin Ramirez as well. Eric tells Stephanie that he hopes she'll be at his meeting. She says that depends on whether he listens to her opinions or they have a repeat of what just happened. He says he made a timely decision. Stephanie asks him if it really would have hurt to have waited two or three days, or even a week in order for Thorne to make his case. "I think maybe it would have, yes." Says Eric. Stephanie says then he should have talked to him in private and told him where he was headed, and not blindsided him. Eric says that Thorne thought that being president meant that he was going to agree with everything. "He thought," Says Stephanie, "that he had your respect, and he deserves it." Then she says that as far as the line is concerned, she thinks he's right. She says that this was his first chance, after living in Ridge's shadow for all these years, to prove to Eric that he's a leader, and Eric didn't back him up. "What does that say?" Says Stephanie. "What does it say that you did?" Replies Eric. Stephanie says that it says he needed her support, and she gave it to him. Eric says that Thorne has always needed her support, but that she waited until today to give it to him. The day after Ridge threw her out. "That's really what all this is about, isn't it? Punishing Ridge." Thorne walks into his office, slams the door, throws something on his desk and leans on it with his head down. He's been humiliated and he's not happy about it. Just then there's a knock on the door. "I'm busy!" He yells. But the door opens anyway, and there stands Ridge.
"That's what this sudden allegiance to Thorne is all about isn't it?" Says Eric. "You're sticking it to Ridge for getting back together with Brooke." Stephanie looks stricken, and can't understand his even suggesting that. Eric says he knows her very well. Stephanie says she agrees with Thorne about the line. "Conveniently." Says Eric. She asks him if he really believes that she would side with one of her sons over another just to twist the knife. He says if she was hurt badly enough, he believes she would. She says she has no need to punish Ridge, living with Brooke will be punishment enough. Eric says that's good, because it's not up to her to fix Ridge's life. She says she's trying to talk to him about his son. He says whether she realizes it or not, she's using Thorne. "Are we through?" Asks Stephanie. "Are you gonna listen to me?" He says. "No Eric." She says, walking out on him. He yells after her telling her to be careful or she will end up losing them both.
"Get out of here Ridge." Says Thorne. Ridge says they have to talk about it. Thorne says he knows where Ridge stands, and Ridge knows where he stands. Ridge says they'd be a lot more productive if they could reach some kind of consensus. "You mean if I just shut up and stay out of your way?" Says Thorne. "Is that what you think I want?" Says Ridge. Thorne says it must have been a lot easier for Ridge, when he was downstairs following orders. Ridge asks him where he's getting all this. "What does it matter?" Says Thorne looking at things on his desk. Ridge says he's just never heard Thorne talk like this, at least not until. "Until what?" Says Thorne. "Darla?" Ridge says they had a business disagreement, that's all it was, and they happen all the time. He says that maybe when he gets a little more experience as president, he'll understand that. "Oh, words of wisdom from the great Ridge Forrester, huh?" Says Thorne, bitterly. Ridge says he's just trying to help. Thorne says "You're just always trying to teach your little brother aren't you Ridge?" Ridge asks if there's something wrong with that. Thorne tells Ridge that he's got a whole houseful of kids at home, and to go help them. Thorne says Ridge fought like hell to be together with Brooke, and asks if he really needs to be at Forrester right now stroking his ego. Ridge asks if this is what it 's going to be like every time his dad backs one of Ridge's ideas. Thorne says that if Ridge continues to overstep it damn well is. "Overstep?" Says Ridge. Thorne tells him he's not running the company with dad anymore. "You walked out of this office, you remember?" Says Thorne. Ridge tells him he doesn't want to be the president. Thorne asks him why the hell he's acting like one, waltzing back into Forrester like he never left, like nothing's changed, and then expect them to just stand aside and applaud. "Do us all a favor Ridge, go back to Marone where you belong." He says. Ridge says that's never gonna happen. Thorne says of course it's not, because they wouldn't bow down and do his will. Ridge says that he has a lot to offer, and his dad sees that. Thorne says of course he sees it, that's all he ever sees, "YOU!" (Go Thorne!!)
Brooke says she still can't believe that little Thomas is all grown up and has a girlfriend. Thomas says that technically they haven't really said that she's his girlfriend. Brooke says she doesn't think it's something that technically happens, you just know. Thomas asks how one knows. She asks him if he's kissed her. He doesn't really answer her. "You have!" Says Brooke. Thomas gets a grin on his face and says "Girlfriend!" They laugh.
Rick is still looking for those papers at his house. Caitlin is following him around saying "You're really not kidding?" He tells her he's not kidding. "Me, a Forrester designer?" Says Caitlin. Rick tells her she would be working very closely with Ridge. "And you?" She asks softly. "And me." Rick says, going off to look some more for those papers, leaving her with a huge grin. Suddenly she gets a serious look on her face and says "I can't!" Rick asks her what she means. She says it's crazy, and she doesn't know what Ridge is thinking. Rick says that Ridge is thinking that she is incredibly talented. She says she doesn't have any experience. Rick says Forrester has the experience and they'll look out for her. She says she doesn't have the first clue about modeling. "As beautiful as you are?" Exclaims Rick, a little too enthusiastically. He slows himself down, and says he's sure she'll pick it right up. He tells her that anything she needs to learn, they'll teach her. "If it even happens, which it probably won't, this is way too good to be true." She says. Just then Caitlin's cell phone rings, and she runs to answer it. "It's Forrester!" She says to Rick before she answers it. When she says hello, Eric is on the other end. He asks her if she could come by the office in the morning, that they have a job offer they'd like her to consider. She answers him in a very excited voice, that yes, she'll do it, she'll be there. When she hangs up, she runs over and throws her arms around Rick saying, "thank you! Thank you!"
"What can I say; I just think she's so incredible." Says Thomas. Brooke, kidding him, says that she couldn't tell. He says it seems like she likes him too. "Of course she does, you're Ridge's son! What's not to like?" Says Brooke. Thomas says "This is gonna be the best summer of his life!" Just then, the scene changes to Rick and Caitlin, who have changed from just a hug, into a full-blown kiss. After which, they gaze into each other's eyes.
Back in Thorne's office, the confrontation continues as Ridge asks Thorne what he's talking about. "Dad went with this idea on it's own merits." He says. "Like hell he did, Ridge. He's so damn glad to have you back he would do anything." Says Thorne, throwing a folder down. He starts to say that he thought this time it was going to be different, "that I'd finally get my.," but he stops and looks up in the air and says, "just shows what a fool I was." "You just couldn't stand it could you? Being out of the spotlight." He asks Ridge. "No." Says Ridge, as though that only makes sense. He tells Ridge that he couldn't have survived living Thorne's life, or Kristen's, or Felicia's. Then he goes on to imitate his parents:
"Don't interrupt, Thorne, your brother's talking!"
"Wish we could have been there, but Ridge had a game, you understand!"
"You know what, Ridge? We did understand! They couldn't get enough of you." He says, pointing to him. "But you know what? You know what my strongest memory was? It wasn't even about me." He begins. "It was your first design, at a Forrester showing. Being backstage and watching dad's look as the applause came up, the way he put his arm around you, it was the proudest day of his life. And I was proud too, I mean, my big brother was the best there was, no one could touch him." Ridge tries to stop him. But Thorne tells him you get used to it after a while - sitting at the dinner table just waiting for someone to ask how your day went. "But they never did." He says, "Because Ridge was so fascinating. His stories so funny. You made them laugh so hard Ridge, that they would have tears streaming down their faces. I couldn't even catch their eye. But who could blame them? You were the star! I thought that if I just hung in there long enough, I'd get my chance." Thorne walks away. "Thorne I didn't know." Says Ridge. Thorne tries to dismiss Ridge by telling him he has work to do. But Ridge says they have a problem and they need to talk about it. Thorne says he should never have brought it up. Ridge puts his hand on Thorne's shoulder. Thorne tells him not to worry about it, that it's not his problem. Ridge grabs Thorne and holds him. "I'm sorry." Says Ridge. At first Thorne struggles to get away, but Ridge won't let go. Eventually Thorne puts his arms around Ridge too.
