In her bedroom, Dusty rubs Jen’s arms and stands close to her as he confesses that he feels for her and that he wanted her even before she got her baby back. He uncertainly tells her that he understands if her feelings have changed. Jen walks away from him, saying that “everything has changed.” She then turns to Dusty and tells him that she has dreamed of this moment every single night for so long, and that she has literally ached for him. He travels the short distance between them and kisses her passionately. They confess their love for each other. Sitting on her bed, Jen seriously asks Dusty about Meg. He tells her that it is over, but she believes that what she saw between the two of them was real.. Dusty tells her that it was real, but in a different way. He and Meg have known each other for more than half of their lives; she gets him. He tells Jen that Meg was in a different place than him. He thought that in time he would be able to get there. He looks at Jen and tells her that he is in love with her and that she makes him want things that he has never thought about before her. He tells her that he wants to be with a woman who loves him, and maybe settle down. When Johnny cries, Dusty assures Jen that he is not going anywhere. When she returns, he is there waiting for her on the bed. He looks at her with so much love in his eyes. Jen tells Dusty that she needs to go find Meg and look her in the eye. Dusty doesn’t want her to, and Jen asks if he thinks that Meg will say something that she can’t handle. Dusty smiles and tells her that he thinks that there are better ways that they could be spending their time in. Jen gives in and they embrace and give each other soft kisses. Jen still wants to find Meg.

Meg covers her mouth in shock as Paul pulls himself over the ledge and falls on his back, gasping for air and clearly in pain. She rushes over to him and kneels beside him. She asks him who did this to him, and he tells her that it was hunters. Meg instinctively wants to take him to the hospital, but Paul is adamant that he does not want to go. In between painful moans and groans, he manages to tell Meg that there is a cabin that he saw on the drive up there that is not too far away. Reluctantly, Meg helps Paul to the cabin. With him lying in the bed, she starts a fire in order to warm him up. She looks at him suspiciously and tells him that he is lucky that those hunters used a small hand gun instead of a rifle. She once again tries to get him to realize that he needs medical attention. She tells him that he is lucky that the bullet went straight through and that it didn’t touch any major organs, but he will need a blood transfusion, X-rays and antibiotics. Paul remains stubborn and insists that she, as a nurse, should be able to get access to all of these things. Meg bluffs that she should just leave him there, and finally she takes off and doesn’t tell Paul where she is going.

Jen arrives at the hospital and talks with a nurse about Meg’s schedule. The nurse tells her that Meg won’t be in for a couple of hours. Jen sighs loudly and turns to leave. At the same moment, Meg is quickly rounding the corner. She stops when she sees Jen, and the two women look at each other. Jen eyes Meg accusingly.

Susan finds Emily waiting for her at a chair in the hospital. She can clearly see that something is wrong with Emily and guides her into a hospital room for privacy. She tries to get a distraught Emily to tell her what the problem is. Emily is calm one moment and then hysterical the next. Susan can not get any answers out of her. At Susan’s house, she makes Emily a hot cup of tea. Still dressed in her white coat and wedding dress, Emily snaps at her mother every time her line of questioning touches on Paul. She wants her to stop questioning her. Her mother sees the blood stain on Emily’s coat, and Emily just tells her that she fell. Being a doctor, Susan is concerned and wants to examine Emily. She insists that she is fine. Susan invites Emily to come live with her because the house is really lonely. When Susan goes to take the coat away, Emily sees that she dropped the ribbon with all of Paul’s blood on it. Emily grabs it and hides it. After she has showered, Susan tries to comfort Emily and tells her that she has friends who care about her, like Hal. Emily freaks out at the mention of his name and tells her mother that she doesn’t want to see him. Emily sits by the fireplace. The doorbell rings and Susan quickly volunteers to get it. She opens it and quickly steps outside with her coat on. Hal is afraid to ask why she called him there and wants to know why they have to talk outside. Susan tells Hal that something is terribly wrong with Emily. She tells her that she hasn’t seen her in this much shock since she was raped. Hal doesn’t feel like Emily wants him around and wants to go. Susan tells him that he doesn’t have a choice. Her beeper goes off and she quickly leaves Hal standing there. Emily balls the ribbon up and is about to throw it in the fireplace.. Hal surprises Emily when he walks up behind her and asks her what she is doing. She has a guilty look on her face as she averts her eyes.

Holden calls Lily on the house phone. She answers and seems happy to hear from him. He tells her that he is at Java and that he wants her to come out on the front porch in a few minutes because he is headed over there. She pretends to be cautious but agrees. Keith comes in and has big news for Lily. He tells her that he got a job offer in San Diego and that Lily is coming with him. Lily is shocked and gets emotional and defensive. She tells him that she can’t leave her family here and asks him why he would take a job out there. Keith tries to calm her down, to no avail, by telling her that the kids can come too. Lily is certain that Holden will not allow it. Keith says then that the lawyers can duke it out while they get settled in San Diego. Holden rings the doorbell and tells Keith that he wants to see his wife. Keith opens the door wide and proclaims that he and Lily have big news. He gives Lily some privacy and loudly states that he is going upstairs to pack. Lily is upset as she tells Holden that she and Keith are going to California. Holden is shocked at how far Lily is taking things and is fed up with this nonsense. They have a heart-to-heart, and Lily admits that she fears going back on her promise because God might take Luke away, just like he did Rose. Holden tries to assure her that Luke is fine and that it won’t happen. She finally admits that it makes no sense, what she is doing, but she still has to do it. Holden kisses her on her forehead and tells her that he will always be there. She thanks him for knowing her better than anyone else.
