As The World Turns Update Friday 10/27/00

By Jackye

Simon is working in the garage and mumbling to himself when Lucinda strides
on in to see him. What on earth is she doing there? He muses that her cars
don't go to the mechanic, the mechanics go to the cars. She says that she has
come to praise him. For what, he questions? Well, for saving Lily's life. And
with that in mind she gives him and envelope that contains $20,000.00. This
is just seed money but it will surely get him out of town and out of Lily's
life. He is impressed that she does her own dirty work but he has no
intentions of going anywhere. He has come to enjoy Oakdale and will be
relocating to a place close to the garage shortly. Lucinda is livid and
insists that he take the money and get out of town and out of the way of
Holden and Lily's reconciliation. He tells her that he is in love with Lily
and he not going anywhere. After several warnings from Simon that she is in
his turf and the work is dirty, Lucinda is suddenly sprayed with oil from the
engine that he has been working on.
Joe and Nancy wait anxiously for Rose to join them for a dinner that she
requested that they meet her at. Late, she arrives as a fretting Joe wonders
what it is that she is actually after. Nancy excuses herself and Rose waste
no time in telling Joe that she wants to know if the diamond that was given
to her was accompanied by a letter or anything. After thinking about it, Joe
recalls that there was a letter from Caroline Carpenter, Iva's biological
mother, when the box with the diamond and a few other items were left for the
then 5 year old Rose. She wants to know if Joe knows where the letter is and
he states that he feels that it is in the attic with about half of his life.
She insists that she must retrieve the letter so that she can provide proof
of the diamond's existence. She is determined to get what is owed her. Joe
cautions her against going up against Lucinda but Rose thinks that she is
capable of handling the fallout from such a venture. Nancy returns to the
table and they persuade her to stay for dinner and toast to new beginnings.
Rose asks Nancy what her intentions towards her father are and Nancy is
amused by the old world thinking that once a woman and a man see each other a
few times, that there must be something going on between them.
Back at the garage, Lucinda and Simon continue to argue about Simon's
reluctance to leave town because of Lily. Lucinda tells him that many a good
man has tried to break them up and have failed. She even tired to do it and
it was impossible. She advises him to take the money and run. But Simon fells
like the best place for the money is at the end of his torch. He tells her
that if she doesn't get out and take the money with her, he will torch it.
Finally, Lucinda agrees to leave but she is clearly annoyed that Simon will
not leave town.
While Lucinda has tried to clear all the obstacles in Holden and Lily's way,
they are making strides of their own. Lily has come into the bedroom
following a shower and Holden is in the house after dropping by to see the
children. The sight of his wife in the towel only is more than Holden could
wish for and after several minutes, they give into their passion and make
love. Afterwards, Holden assumes that the problems of the past few months are
behind them and he will be moving back into the house. Lily pulls away and
tells him that he can't move back in yet, that she is not ready for that.
Holden is clearly confused from the mixed signals that he is receiving from
his wife. Lily tries to explain that just making love has not erased the
problems that they have had over the past few months and challenges him to
say that he has forgotten about the situation with Rose and Simon and that it
is all a dim memory. When he can't, Lily has made her point and Holden agrees
that they need to take more time to be with each other before trying to be a
married couple again. She invites him to go with her to the Halloween party
that Craig is having and even though Holden hates this type of party, he
agrees to go if that is what it will take to help get their marriage back on
track. He prepares to leave for the evening and after he is gone, Lily
flashes back to the moment of passion that she and Simon had on the island
before Holden discovered them. She vow that she must make her and Holden's
marriage work.
