By Bethany

Margo and Tom are having a pleasant chat and meal at Al's diner when
Tom brings up the urgent message that he received from Chris asking
for legal advice for Emily. The discuss Emily and Chris' relationship
and Margo is quick to point out that he following Tom's example. Tom
tells her about the shirt incident that he walked in on at the office
a few days ago and the thought of Chris and Emily together as a
couple is just about more than Margo can stomach. Margo opens the
paper and finds the auction notice in the paper for the Intruder. Tom
decides that he needs to get over there right away so he can take
advantage of the situation to offer Chris a job with him at the
Argus. Margo isn't so sure that is the reason but she gives Tom the
benefit of the doubt.
Katie is in Craig's hotel room and is reading the obituaries. Craig
thinks that it is weird to read them but Katie says it make her know
that there are people worse off than she is to read them. She runs
across the auction notice for the Intruder and realizes that Chris
will unemployed soon and she cannot contain her glee. She will sleep
like a baby tonight she gloats. Craig expresses interest in the paper
and asks Katie to tell him about it. When he finds out that Emily is
involved he begins to think how he can make the paper work for him.
Katie and Craig make a $10.00 bet that Emily will be out on the
street by morning. They shake on it but Craig warns her to never
underestimate a blonde. Katie doesn't heed his warning. She is
certain she has a sure winner.
Emily comes back from the bank with bad news. She has presented the
figures of the papers financial standing but the bank will need at
least 30 days to come up with an answer and she doesn't have that
kind of time. Chris tries to encourage her to go to Craig but she
tells him that she and him have a past. She was instrumental in
breaking up Samantha and Craig and caused problems for Craig and
Sierra also. Chris wants to know if she was in love with him. Emily
sidesteps the question. Chris reminds her that she is running out of
time. She decides that she is going to call Tom and ask him for the
money but Chris points out that he probably doesn't have that kind of
money and he is probably happy to see her fail. She breaks down in
despair and Chris asks her if there is anyone that she can thing of
that she doesn't have a sorrid past with and would hate to see her
fail that could help her. She gets an idea and leaves a dumbfounded
Chris to deal with the man that has been hired to change the locks.
He is early and Chris tries to bribe him to wait out the 2 hours that
Emily has left. He begins to work anyway and Tom comes in and ask
Chris what is going on. Chris gives him the quick run down and
despite stopping Emily from asking Tom for the money, he does and Tom
turns him down cold. Tom begs Chris to come to the Argus to work with
him.
Molly, Jake, and Abigail are having dinner at the Lakeview. Despite
the fact that Molly went to David's funeral and by all accounts the
man is dead, when another customer's cell phone rings, she nearly
jumps out of the chair. Abigail hurries off to check on dessert and
Jake asks Molly what is really going on with her. She tells him about
the phone call at Al's and she tells Jake that she is either is very
grave danger or she is losing her mind. Jake decides that maybe she
is being stalked and they decide to take action to help ease Molly's
mind. Back at the apartment, they meet with Hal while he installs a
recording device on her phone. Hal asks if she has anyone that would
try to harm her. Abigail offers Emily as a possible suspect but Jake
thinks that it maybe someone with a connection to David. Molly thinks
that David's memory and presence is all over the apartment that once
was his. Speaking of Emily, she arrives to talk with Jake. She is
curious as to why Hal is there and is insulting to Molly. Molly tells
Jake that if he wants to talk to her, to take it outside. They are
not going to do it in the apartment. Jake and Emily go outside and
Emily asks Jake for the money to save the Intruder. Jake is
incredulous and says that there is no way. First of all, it is a
conflict of interest because he works for Lucinda's paper. Emily
pulls out all the stops and tries to tell him that they would make a
good team and he could help elevate the respectability of the
Intruder if he came to work with her. But she over plays her hand
when she insults Molly one more time and Jake goes back into the
apartment and slams the door in her face. Once inside, he is
momentarily left alone with Hal. They discuss possible suspects and
Jake offers the possiblity of some kid getting his kicks. Molly over
hears them and insist that this is no kid. Don't they believe her?
Abigail and Molly try to decide where she is going to stay for the
night and Molly finally agrees for her to stay with her at the
apartment. Jake and Hal tell her to call if she needs them and they
leave.
Back at the Intruder, Emily arrives crestfallen because she still
hasn't gotten a prayer of coming up with the money. She berates Tom
for his indifference to the welfare of the mother of his child. Tom
tells her that he does care but the time has come for her to cut her
losses and get out now. She will find something to do, she always
does. Craig enters the discussion and announces that he is ready to
let by-gones be by-gones and put the past in the past. He makes the
incredible offer to save the paper for her. He will buy the loan and
she can pay him as she has been paying David. But Chris is the one
that is leery now and wants to know what he wants in exchange for the
loan. Tom tries his best to talk Craig out of it but Craig is able to
take care of himself he tells his brother-in-law. So Tom makes one
more appeal to Chris to come to the Argus. Chris turns him down so
Tom leaves and Chris focuses his attention on finding out what kind
of strings come with the loan. He tells him that he wants to be like
a silent partner but he will have say in business decisions but Emily
will be free to run the paper. Chris doesn't like the deal that could
change on a day to day basis and Emily hesitates. Craig tells her
that it is a one time deal and it ends the minute he gets out the
door. With no other option in sight, she agrees to Craig's
conditions. They plan a meeting for the money and Craig leaves. Chris
senses gloom and doom. He doesn't like the way that Craig had the
upper hand because Emily was so desparate. Emily just wants to
celebrate but Chris remains aloof.
Back at the hotel, Katie begins to gloat that she will win the bet
when Craig informs her that she lost. Emily now has the funding for
the paper. Katie scream foul when she learns that her brother is the
benefactor of Emily's good fortune.
Tom goes back to Al's and informs Margo about the strange business
arrangement that her brother has just gotten himself into. Margo
senses that Craig saved Emily hide for some higher purpose.
Molly is acutely aware of ever sound that is coming in and around the
apartment. She closes all the blinds and curtains and checks the
locks and phone equipment. Satisfied, she lays down on the couch for
the night. The phone rings and a terrified Molly hears the same
scratchy voice singing "Beautiful Dreamer". She screams for Abigail
to call Jake. Hal and Jake come over and Hal checks the equipment. He
goes to play the message and the only voice on the recorder is that
of an operator recorded message. No Molly says, she heard it. The
song, he called her kitten. Abigail suggests that they check the
equipment but Hal says that he has done that and it is fine. They
check the message again and it is still the operator recording.
Please believe her Molly begs. She knows what she heard.
