As The World Turns Update Thursday 08/31/00

By Bethany

Cornered, by Sally, the paraplegic that Kim once worked with, Andy
cannot seem to through to her that he doesn't want to attend the
meetings that are aimed at battling depression. How in the world did
he manage to get through the first month without being depressed, she
inquires? As she relates her story, Andy guiltily watches his toes
twitch.  He finally agrees to go to one meeting and they leave. Once
at the meeting, Andy is forced to face people who are true
paraplegics. One is an ex-cop that was injured while breaking up a
robbery. Another is a young mother that dove into shallow water to
save her three year old daughter from drowning.  Still another is an
Olympic hopeful that was injured while in training.  The group is
just about more than a functioning Andy can bear.
While this is going on, Denise shows up at Ben's. Curtis is very
impressed with her and wants to stay and discuss how he wound up at
Ben's.  He nearly lets the cat out of the bag concerning the deal
that Ben and Issac made about Issac helping him get the goods on Andy
until Ben distracts him with the satellite television. Denise
expresses concern over him taking a leave of absence. Ben says that
he had to. He will not discuss this with her.  Denise begs him not to
shut her out, but Ben stands by his work and tells Denise that there
is no way that the surgery could have been a failure. Andy should be
able to walk and with that said, why does she choose to stay with him?
If that is her choice, then she can't have is both ways. Broken
hearted, Denise leaves. Curtis reenters the room and Ben tells him
that his personal life is off limits and not to discuss the plan that
he and Issac have with anyone.
Hal and Barbara are preparing to leave. Hal takes the time to talk
with Jennifer and he assures her that just because she is not his
biological child, that he doesn't love her any less. DNA doesn't make
a family. Love for the people involved does.  They come to an
understanding and Hal and Barbara leave with the understanding  that
Bryant isn't allowed at the house and no other teenagers until they
return. They are barely out of sight when Bryant appears at the door.
At first, Jennifer is reluctant to let him in by but she relents and
they start talking about their relationship.  There is no
relationship, Jennifer informs him. Her family won't accept it and
right on cue, Adam appears and furnishes her with the proof that
Bryant is not welcomed there. Adam attempts to throw Bryant out but
Jennifer says she will handle it and she asks him to leave and forget
about her. He kisses her and tells her to forget about that. A little
later, Jennifer phones Bryant and tells him that he is right, she
can't forget.
Back in paradise. Lily cannot understand how Holden could not know
that Rose was not her. Tormented by the picture that Celia brought
onto the island, she rips it to shreds. She and Simon continue to
drink the stash of moonshine that Cooley left behind and it isn't
long before Lily loses her inhibitions. She does a fan dance as Rose
would do it and announces that since Rose took her life that she is
going to take hers.  All she has to do is lie, lose her morals, and
act the way she is now. As fascinated as Simon is with her, he is
still concerned that she will do something that she will later
regret. Not possible, she assures him. They dance as Lily sings and
come dangerously close to creating a storm along with the one raging
outside the cave.  As they prepare to cross the line between friends
and lovers, they do not realize that salvation is just a few miles
away in the form of Cooley and Holden.
Holden and Cooley have their own set of problems with the same storm
that Lily and Simon are experiencing. Holden is horrified that his
pilot is somewhat of a daredevil. As they fly into the storm instead
of around it, Cooley seems to delight in the fact that his passenger
wishes he had taken a different flight. They emerge from the storm
and Cooley tells Holden that his wife is just a few minutes away.
