All My Children Update Thursday 5/13/04

Ryan and Greenlee are walking outside what looks to be a chapel or honeymoon suite, sounding happy. He tells her that they could make a movie out of this. She inquires if he means a movie about two friends getting married. They run together happily, looking like neither of them regrets their choice to get married.

Meanwhile, Kendall is on a plane, impatiently waiting for it to take off. Simone is with her and tells her maybe she should not be so determined to get Ryan back right now. Simone suggests that maybe instead of obsessing over this, Kendall should just call Ryan. But Kendall says that now that she’s made this monumental breakthrough, she needs to talk to him in person. But Simone tells Kendall she needs to wait. Kendall is convinced that Ryan has simply entered into a business arrangement with Greenlee and it does not matter if she finds him with Greenlee. But Simone sees it differently and tells Kendall that if she goes after Ryan, right now, it might be too late. Simone asks Kendall what will happen if she finds them in their hotel and the deed is already done. She asks if Kendall would really be o.k. knowing this. Kendall says if she has to accept it that way, she will. Simone tells Kendall that she really believes she is not in any state to go and find Ryan by herself and demands Kendall either gets off the plane or lets her come along for the ride to be there with her.

Right at the same time, in the midst of their happy interaction, Greenlee wonders where Ryan went and what he did earlier on this day. And his answer does not really satisfy her. She confronts him, telling him that she thought that he was fine with all of this and happy. He tells her that he is, but he’s a little uneasy about the place where they are for their honeymoon and asks whether this is what she really wants. She tells him that she knows that this is what she wants. She tells him that she wants this to work, like a dance in total sync.

In the hospital, Anita witnesses what looks to be a brawl outside Edmund’s room. She goes into Edmund’s room and inquires why he’s thrown a tantrum and thrown a physical therapist out of his room. She protests that this guy is highly qualified and Edmund should work with him, not against him. He tells her he is not comfortable with this. She tells him that it’s a good thing that Maria is not here to witness this. He reminds her that she is able to walk, whereas he is not, and he needs to do things his way. She urges him to see that in spite of the fact he cannot walk, he’s still the same Edmund, with a wife and kids whom he knows love him. She urges him to imagine what he’d do if Maria was in this bed instead of him. She goes on to tell him that if he believes that Maria loves him less because of this, then he never deserved her in the first place.

Tad appears at Jack’s apartment and informs him that what little he knows about Erica is that she’s not coming back to Pine Valley any time soon. After viewing pictures taken of Erica in Vegas, gambling, dancing; and after learning from Tad that Bobbie is hiding Erica, lying for her and preventing anybody from finding her, Jack asks Tad if Erica is drinking. Tad says as far as he knows it’s “just Champaign”. But Jack firmly tells him that there’s no such thing as “just…” in regard to alcohol, for Erica. At that moment, Bianca comes out of her room and wants to know all about what they are discussing.

Erica is with Bobbie in the gambling casino. He informs her that a rave review has been written about her dancing, addressing her as Desiree Dubois. She appears happy. But he tells her that when her name is in the media, it could blow her cover. But she keeps telling him that she’s not about to quit after only one dance. He concludes that he must admit that he admires her ambition.

Bianca informs Jack that she knows he’s been up every night, that she has been blaming herself for Erica’s choice to go away, and now she is very angry to know that her mother is relieving herself of her grief by being out in Vegas, drinking and becoming a showgirl. She admits that it looks as though her mother could care less about any of them. Jack tells her they do not know the whole story. She inquires whether Erica is having an affair with Bobbie. And she says not only is that a terrible thing to do to Jack, but that she really cares about Anita Santos, who has been so good to her when she was in the hospital. And what is Anita’s husband out doing? He’s in Vegas having an affair with her mother.

Bobbie calls Anita on his cell phone and tells her that she must trust him in what he’s doing right now. He fights on the phone to make her realize that he wants to make their marriage work. He tells her he realizes he’s not always been financially secure. But he says the reason he’s there is to make more money so he can provide for her. She tells him she does not care about material things. What she wants is a man she can count on. And she hangs up on him.

Ryan and Greenlee check into the hotel and order two different rooms. The hotel clerk admits that he finds it very odd that a couple about to get married would be in separate rooms. She bluffs an explanation that she is old fashioned and does not want her groom to see her in her wedding dress before the wedding. And she tells him that they must get married because she cannot wait for him any longer. They fake a passionate kiss for “appearances”. But it’s clear to both of them that it’s unnatural.

Kendall tells Simone that Bianca gave her a pep talk to get back with Ryan and to forgive Greenlee. She admits that maybe she was wrong to deny Greenlee partnership at Fusion, but now she needs not be threatened that Ryan has anything other than a business relationship with Greenlee. Yet Simone seems not to see it that way. But Kendall says that when you really, really love a person, you will fight all the odds and do whatever it takes in order to take them back. And she says she knows that wherever Ryan is, whatever he’s doing, and whomever he’s with, she knows he will take her back.

Jack keeps defending Erica to Bianca and Tad. But Bianca tells Jack that Erica’s choice to drink is a cop-out, which they should not keep making excuses for. She says that she has gone through hell in the last year herself, but she has not given into her eating disorder, nor is she abandoning the people who love her and making them worry about her because of it. She admits that her kidnapping Babe and JR’s baby was a terrible thing to do, that Kendall’s trust issue with Ryan is really messed up, and that everybody has their problems. But what Erica has done is unacceptable and inexcusable. She informs Jack that she knows he’s been up every night, that she has been blaming herself for sending Erica away, and now she is very angry to know that her mother is relieving herself of her grief by being out in Vegas and becoming a showgirl. She admits that it looks as though her mother could care less about any of them. Jack tells her they do not know the whole story. She inquires whether Erica is having an affair with Bobbie. And she says not only is that a terrible thing to do to Jack, but she cares about Anita Santos, who has been so good to her in the hospital. And she says Anita deserves better than having her husband out in Vegas cheating on her with Erica.

When Bobbie finds Erica again, he reveals that he is discouraged because it sounds like his wife does not believe in him. He tells her that he wants to help his wife with the monetary proceeds of his “business ventures”. Erica tells him she will get some money to invest with him because she wants to help him the way he’s helped her. She tells him she knows all too well what it’s like to try and fail, throughout one’s life, to be the person that people can appreciate, and how she will no longer worry about that, now that she is Desiree Dubois. And she tells him that he must not be discouraged by his temporary setback.

After Bianca’s left Jack’s in anger after hearing the disheartening information about Erica, Jack tells Tad that he can tell that Bianca is very upset. Tad asks if anybody could blame her and he apologizes for having to be the “bearer of bad tidings” and tells Jack did not know that Bianca would be there, right when he comes to deliver the information he’s found out. Jack says that he is so discouraged and angry with Erica for abandoning her family and everybody who loves her. And he vents that after how inconsiderate she has been, he must admit that if he saw her out on the street druink, he wouldn’t do anything to help her. Tad tells Jack that nobody can understand why Erica is doing what she’s doing, except Erica herself. Jack says what if he does not care? Tad says he knows that Jack does care. He tells Jack that he wants to help, not just professionally, but as a friend. He admits that he will never forget Dixie and how he felt that she was worth any sacrifice. But he believes that Jack’s judgment may be clouded by his anger. So he says he wants to wait a while, and after some time has gone by, he will go to Vegas, to find Erica if Jack asks him to.

When Ryan and Greenlee are distracting themselves trying to sound happy, she tells him that she will let him back out of their agreement if he wants. But he says that won’t happen. They “invite” a man to their hotel suite who sounds like he’s tying up their “legal agreement” by getting signatures. And it looks like their business wedding is ready to go off without a hitch. Ryan asks Greenlee if she’s ready for “phase 2”. She says yes.

Right at that moment, Kendall and Simone are off the plane, walking the very same grounds as Ryan and Greenlee have been walking, while Kendall is determined to take back the man she loves.

In the hospital, Anita runs into Aidan remembering he’s just gotten back form Las Vegas. He seems to evade the topic but she tells him that he needs to tell her if he saw Erica Kane with her husband.
