Episode #11532 ~ Nick has a change of heart, Rey disappoints Sharon, and Cane's visit with Lily takes an unexpected turn.

Provided By Suzanne

Previously on "the young and the restless"...

Lily: Dear cane, it doesn't get easier here, but it does become more normal. And that's scary in itself. Like I'm losing who I was, and she's not coming back.

Mia: So our almost kiss was about my ego? Not about the fact that our history means that your heart is in mine, and I am stamped into yours. You and I both know what was going on.

Rey: We need to be in a place where we can trust each other. In a place where my brother can come over and fix the furnace, and I can go away on business with a co-worker.

Nikki: I killed J.T. And you need to know everything that happened.

Nick: From now on, my number-one priority is keeping you and my sister safe. And clearing dad's name.

Nick: Michael, that is great news. That is exactly why I wanted to bring you on board. Yeah, no, I get it. I will see to that myself. I appreciate it. I'll call you later. Thanks. Thank you.

Phyllis: You're welcome. That sounded like a promising phone call.

Nick: Yeah. Michael was able to get dad a new bail hearing.

Phyllis: Oh, well, I think i walked in in the middle of this movie. That's big news. Both michael and the hearing.

Nick: It was ridiculous that dad hadn't hired an attorney, so I just took care of that myself.

Phyllis: Okay, hang on. I got to catch up here for a second. So you personally hired michael for your father -- which I am sure victor loved -- and per that phone call you were just on, now you have even more to deal with?

Nick: Well, michael is concerned that dad is going to balk at any of the conditions the judge imposes for dad's bail. And dad needs to be home, like, now for my mom. So I'm not gonna let him set up any more road blocks for himself.

Phyllis: And this has been going on for the last -- how long?

Nick: Just, like, a day.

Phyllis: Okay, am I crazy, or weren't you the guy that said he was gonna stay out of it and let victor deal with all of this?

Nick: Well, this needs to go in a different direction. Dad does not belong in a cell, because he did not kill J.T.

[ Keys jingle, lock turns ]

Lily: Hey.

Cane: Hey. Hey, baby.

Lily: Hey.

Cane: Hey.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] The guard said it was you. What are you doing here?

Cane: I missed you.

Lily: Are the kids okay?

Cane: Yeah, yeah. They're good, all of them. They're good. I just, uh... I just missed your face, and i just wanted to make sure you were okay.

Lily: [ Sighs ] It's 'cause of my letter, right?

[ Inhales sharply ] I almost ripped it up. I-it [Sighs] Was all over the place.

Cane: No, it wasn't the letter. It's just, you know, when we talked on the phone, you know, you said that all we really do is try and cram the news of the day in, and we never really talk about anything real.

Lily: [ Snorts softly ] It's good to see you. Um, I woke up this morning, and you weren't there, and I wanted to come. Work can wait. You know, the people who need things from me, they can wait. 'Cause all that really matters to me right now is just being here with you.

Sharon: Coffee on the house. And here is a check for the furnace repair. Thank you so much for running to the rescue the other night. Mia would have frozen to death if it weren't for you.

Arturo: Yeah. I'm just lucky my friend had the part, you know? It was a close one.

Sharon: But, still, in the end, you did save your sister-in-law.

Arturo: Yeah, if I'd been out of commission or on a jobsite --

Sharon: What, in the middle of the night? In the weather?

Arturo: I-I'm just saying, I can give you the name of a handyman. You know, like, that you have someone on-call. For the future. In case...

Sharon: Oh. Okay. Sure. Yeah. I didn't mean to --

Arturo: No, no. It's -- it's nothing, really. It's just, you know, with abby's new restaurant, and dark horse, my schedule's a little tight, so...

Arturo: [ Gasps ] What are we doing?

Mia: I...thought you --

Arturo: Mia, I -- I am so sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. But -- but I-I can't do this, and neither should you.

Rey: Morning. [ Sighs ]

Mia: Morning. Heh.

Rey: Yeah? You're freezing. How long have you been standing there?

Mia: Uh... you'll warm me up.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Mia: Mira, mi amor.

Rey: Oh, that's a lot of dishes for juice and toast.

Mia: Mm-hmm. What? You think that's all I'm good for? A piece of toast?

Rey: Oh, you are... good for much more than that.

Mia: Mm-hmm. Well, get ready for a genuine meal. A huge breakfast.

Rey: Tamales? The ones lola gave us?

Mia: Yep. Sitting in the freezer for a special occasion.

Rey: What are we celebrating?

Mia: You coming home to me. After the storm.

Sharon: Rey?

Rey: Yeah?

Sharon: Sweet dreams.

Rey: Sweet dreams, sharon.

Mia: Every time you leave home, I get a shiver that you won't make it back.

Rey: I will always come home to you. You've got to get in there, like...

Rey: It was delicious.

Mia: Mm-hmm.

Rey: Thank you.

Mia: Yeah. Put all my kitchen skills to use heating up lola's food.

Rey: You're the one who went to the work.

Mia: For a reason. Because I want something.

Rey: Don't you always?

Mia: Well, if you don't ask, you don't get.

Rey: What is it?

Mia: You. Home. For as long as I can keep you here. Babe, call in sick.

Rey: [ Scoffs ]

Mia: Okay? You arrested victor newman. You busted the drug dealers, okay? You've earned a snow day.

Rey: [ Sighs ] Sounds tempting.

Mia: Then give in.

Rey: [ Sighs ] I have leads to follow up on the drug bust.

Mia: [ Groans ] And you always have to be the responsible one.

Rey: I thought that's why you loved me.

Mia: It was. It is. You know... what's right and wrong. You make me feel safe.

Rey: Mm.

Mia: My protector.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Mia: But maybe I want to know that I can make you a little less responsible. Just for me.

Rey: [ Grunts ]

Mia: [ Exclaims ]

Lily: Look, I didn't mean to worry you with that letter.

Cane: It's okay. It's good for me to know what you're thinking.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Even if it didn't make any sense?

Cane: You know, if you want to tell me something, you can say it. I mean, I know you do. And, just, if I'm not giving you enough support or reassurance, tell me that. And then just point me in the right direction.

Lily: No, cane. I-I don't want you to feel like you have to jump through hoops.

Cane: I can do that. I can, and I will, jump through hoops for you.

Lily: [ Sighs ] No, we just have to admit that this is really hard. And that's just the reality of it.

Cane: Sweetheart, the reality is, I could be a better husband to you.

Lily: No, I didn't mean for my letter to put pressure on you, and make you feel like you have to fix something. I don't want that.

Cane: No, no. Listen, I'm not doing -- I'm not doing that. I mean, I wanted to come down here so I could let you know that you are still my priority. I don't know. Maybe I can't fix everything. Maybe I can. But I'll always be here when you need me. Do you believe that? And we'll be okay. And we'll get through this together.

Phyllis: I'm just surprised at this sudden dedication for victor's cause. You hadn't mentioned him in the last few days, so I just assumed you were focused on business and family.

Nick: Victor is family.

Phyllis: When he's not disowning you. Or you him. I hardly saw you yesterday, so I just figured you were knee deep in dark horse business, not saving victor from himself, which is a full-time job.

Nick: Look, I put in one call to michael that took all of a few minutes. I went down to the station, and it was done.

Phyllis: So it was a plan that was churning in your head that you never mentioned to me. And I can't help but wonder why. But the obvious answer is because you didn't want me to know. So, in that way, victor is already getting between us.

Nick: No. Okay? No. I didn't bring it up because I know that you and I see things differently.

Phyllis: As of when? How? I'm not saying abandon your father, and leave him to his substantial devices. But what I am saying is that it's me that's laying beside you in bed at night, and in the shower with you sometimes, in the morning and coffee and dinner, and you never mentioned a word.& You know, and just a few days ago, you weren't convinced that victor was innocent, and now this. But what happened?

Nick: I just... you know, I really thought about things, and the evidence that the police have, and it's not enough.

Phyllis: That's it? I mean, did michael ask you to speak to your father because he wouldn't take him on?

Nick: No. It wasn't like that.

Phyllis: Okay. Then is it nikki? Is it victoria? How did this happen?

Nick: Are you that sure that he's guilty that you expect me to just walk away from this?

Phyllis: What I think is that victor sucked you back in.

Nick: My dad did not say a word to me, phyllis.

Phyllis: He didn't have to. It's a silent, magnetic pull, which I honestly thought you were over. Nick, all of this -- this place, dark horse, me -- you have been given a whole new universe. Victor is sucking you back in to the old way.

Nick: So you were looking out for me.

Phyllis: Yeah, I was looking out for you. For us.

Nick: You've said that before, and I'm just not buying it. It took nothing from my work or personal life to go down there and say, "hey, maybe my father shouldn't be rotting in a cell." But what I'm hearing is, you want me to think he's guilty. You wouldn't mind if I let him face prosecution, and I don't get it. What is going on with you?

Cane: [ Sighs ]

Lily: So, I was gonna call you and tell you today, but here you are.

[ Chuckles ]

Cane: [ Chuckles ] What, you have news?

Lily: Yeah. U-um... I have been assigned to teach the ged class.

Cane: Seriously?

Lily: Yeah. Every afternoon.

[ Laughs ]

Cane: Wow.

Lily: Yeah. The last inmate who taught it got early release. And that's not why I'm doing it, but I didn't think the warden would let me 'cause I don't have a college degree. But I applied and interviewed, and now I'm the teacher.

[ Chuckles ]

Cane: Well, and you wanted to find a way to help everyone. Look at you. You're doing it.

Lily: Yeah. A ged is a huge leap for a lot of these women. You know, if they pass, they can get vocational training, which means they'll have skills to take on the outside. And if someone gives them a shot, they can get a job, make a wage to help themselves and their families. It's a new chance, you know? And [Sighs] It all goes back to education.

Cane: Yeah.

Lily: And I get to be a part of that.

[ Chuckles ]

Cane: That's amazing.

Lily: Yeah. I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, but --

Cane: No. No, no, no, no. Please. I'm proud of you.

Lily: Thank you. I'm hoping to be proud of me, too. I've had a lot of shame since... you know, and I -- I know I can't undo what I did, but if I can at least just put some good into the world...

Cane: Hey, hey, hey. The students are gonna love you.

Lily: Well, I'm already the new girl. And the last person who taught was here for years. So if I can get them to at least tolerate me, then [Inhales] That's a win.

Cane: Well, you're gonna do great. Listen, what you just said about shame -- you know, I want you to know that you -- you have put a lot of good in this world. The way you love the kids, and the way you parent them from a distance. And they love and they respect you. You are the guiding light of this family. Nothing's gonna change that.

Phyllis: As I recall, you were thanking me for backing you up, because you suspected that victor was behind J.T.'S death.

Nick: Because, at the time, it was a legitimate consideration.

Phyllis: Okay. But according to you now, with no new evidence, you are convinced that victor didn't do it. And if I can't see that, I am being -- what? Irrational?

Nick: I'm not saying that at all.

Phyllis: Okay, well, then, what are you saying, nick? Because I'm lost, here. I don't get it.

Nick: You hate my dad.

Phyllis: Duh.

Nick: And with very good reason.

Phyllis: Also, duh.

Nick: So that is coloring your take on this. The fact that you'd be willing to let my dad go to jail for something that he may not have done is probably more about what he did to you and less about J.T.

Phyllis: Okay. Now that you mention it, let's talk about the time that victor was supposed to serve. But didn'T. Because he got out early. If he had served that time, let's look at all the things that wouldn't have happened. Like taking christian away from you. Sending our daughter halfway across the globe. Using you against victoria. You know, the list is endless, nick. I need it to stop.

Nick: Okay. So we don't let him get to us. But we also don't let him rot in a cell.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Nick: I mean, even if he's innocent?

Phyllis: You know, the cops and the D.A. Don't think that. Why don't you let a judge decide without you interfering?

Nick: So we just ignore the fact that somebody's framing him?

Phyllis: Ugh. Okay. I know that's what you think right now --

Nick: Who started that fire on our ranch?

Phyllis: I don't know. It could have been a bad wire. I don't know!

Nick: No. No, no. It was arson. And that person is still out there.

Phyllis: We have no idea who started those fires, and nothing has happened ever since.

Nick: You don't know that.

Phyllis: Okay, but you do?

Nick: You know, nobody knows anything for sure.

Phyllis: Okay, but I'm trying to understand where all this is coming from. I mean, the last time we talked, really talked, it was my incredible bad judgment at the memorial, and -- and you brought your mom home, and you are talking, and I -- [ Stammers ] Is that what this is about? I mean, what exactly did nikki say to you?

Nick: [ Sighs ] I need some air.

Mia: Whew! Heh... oh. Yes.

Rey: Okay. Now I definitely have to go to the station.

Mia: Mm! Who's stopping you?

Rey: That wasn't you back there?

Mia: [ Laughs ] I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm a very busy, important person. I have new bronzing powders to try.

Rey: Oh, so I kept you from work.

Mia: Mm-hmm. You're always after me. Can't get enough.

Rey: I can'T. Never could.

Mia: [ Giggles ] All this for a bunch of christmas tamales. Hey, I might even learn how to cook.

Rey: You know, I wasn't sure we could get back here. I didn't know if you wanted it.

Mia: Of course I wanted it. I married you for it. I moved to genoa city uninvited for it. Because you're good for me.

Rey: [ Scoffs ] Like vegetables and cardio?

Mia: Heh. You believe in me.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Mia: You support me. You don't judge me. And I'm good for you, too.

Rey: There's no argument there. You make life interesting.

Mia: "Interesting"? Mm. Is that all that happened back there, is interesting?

[ Both laugh ]

Rey: In all the best ways.

Mia: Hey. You need me. I need you. We don't ever forget that. Ever.

Tech: At safelite autoglass

Sharon: Yes, that notification means the trial has been set for that date. And I can be there with you the whole time. No, that's exactly what I'm here for -- to see that you get through it and come out the other side. Okay. I'll see you soon. I wasn't sure if you were coming in today.

Rey: Yeah, I got a late start. Did I miss anything?

Sharon: Mm. Just a reporter who won't leave.

Rey: Yeah, I saw that. Always a pleasure. Joanna.

Joanna: Got an update for me on the newman case?

Rey: [ Clears throat ] Nothing you don't already know. The judge had him remanded without bail. The guy's a notorious flight risk, and we are helping the D.A. Build a case for a conviction.

Joanna: So you're confident?

Rey: I have faith in the process. Mr. Newman seems to underestimate his legal jeopardy, given that he hasn't bothered to retain legal counsel.

Nick: Let me save you the embarrassment of repeating false information. I'm nick newman. My father has indeed hired a lawyer, and even has a new bail hearing scheduled. We are very much looking forward to his release, and an apology from this department for its flimsy, manufactured evidence.

Joanna: Care to respond?

Rey: Not really.

Nick: Why don't you come by dark horse? Bring a camera crew. I'll give you a live interview with accurate information. You will not get that here.

Joanna: Let me make a call.

Nick: Looks like you're out of the loop.

Rey: And here I thought you were the one newman [Sighs] Who wouldn't let victor get away with murder.

Nick: You got the wrong guy my dad did not kill J.T.

Mia: You came.

Arturo: Is rey home?

Mia: He left for work, and then I texted you.

Arturo: So he has no idea I'm here?

Mia: I don't have to tell him every second of my day, every little thing I do. And besides, I invited you over here just to talk.

Arturo: About?

Mia: I think there's something you should know. And I didn't want to text you in case your girlfriend checks your phone.

Arturo: She's not that type of girl.

Mia: Everyone's like that in the right situation.

Arturo: Mia...

Mia: Fine. I just wanted you to know that nothing happened between rey and sharon. They were out of town on police business, and they got stuck over there in kenosha because of the storm. That's it.

Rey: I told you. Rey's not that type of guy.

Mia: Kind of guy who steps out on his woman? Can't control himself?

Arturo: [ Sucks teeth ] He's the guy who comes home and tells his wife everything.

Mia: Actually, he didn't mention sharon at first. I just told him what I knew, and he had no choice.

Arturo: So, what, you just backed him up against a wall?

Mia: No. I let rey explain himself, and I believed him. Because we're in a different place now. We have trust and respect.

Arturo: And what did you tell him?

Mia: Nothing. Nothing that matters. You fixed the furnace.

Arturo: [ Sighs ]

Mia: He's glad you came over to help me out.

Arturo: So... [ Sighs ] You two are fine?

Mia: He blew off work this morning. That's how fine we are.

Arturo: Well, then, you don't have to worry about sharon or anything else. You guys are in a good place.

Mia: We are. I think.

Arturo: How do you not know after everything you just said?

Mia: Because I can't stop thinking about you and me the other night.

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Cane: Thank goodness for the walnut grove counselors. You know, they're staying on the kids, making them do their college applications. So I don't have to be the bad guy.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Cane: Um... oh! And mattie wanted me to bring an essay she wrote, which is all about you, and how much of an influence you are on her.

Lily: Wait, her inmate mother? She's not afraid what the admissions people might think?

Cane: Well, you can read it yourself. I mean, it's nothing but -- but love and respect and pure admiration. You know, I mean, you realize that she is your biggest fan besides me?

Lily: [ Snorts softly ] How is, um... how is charlie handling the breakup with shauna? Every time I ask him, he just changes the subject.

Cane: Um... [ Sighs ] Well, you know, he's a teenage boy, so...

[ Sighs ]

Lily: Well, I've never been one, so I don't -- I don't know what that means.

Cane: Right. Um... he's, uh... he -- he's, uh... he's messed up. You know, he -- he, uh, acted out, but I -- I dealt with it.

Lily: How bad?

Cane: It could have been... worse.

Lily: [ Sighs ] You look tired. Is it the long drive, or... is there more?

Cane: Sleep's not really my friend lately.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Yeah. Me neither.

Cane: You know, I, uh -- I get distracted at work, and my mind is full of the mistakes I've made, and... you know, things I did. Things I didn't do. Yeah, I just wish I could kind of take some things back, that's all. But, hey, we have paris, right?

Lily: What?

Cane: We have paris. You know, I've been planning, for when you get out here, a trip to paris -- you know, with hotels and vineyards and museums. And I keep saying to myself, you know, "should we get a car, or should we just stay in bed?"

Lily: Cane --

Cane: Because if we do that, we can just have room service and champagne. And...

Lily: Cane --

Cane: ...You know, we're gonna get you a new wardrobe, because I want to leave all this stuff behind, and we need to find some time to --

Lily: Okay. Cane, stop. Please -- please! You have to stop.

Nick: Sharon, actually, I came down here to see you.

Sharon: Oh. About what?

Nick: Well, you are the victim liaison, and my mother was the primary victim of the fire at the ranch. I was hoping to see all the information you've gathered so far.

Sharon: That's not what I do, nick. I think you're well aware.

Rey: Nick, the documentation won't be made public until the investigation is closed.

Nick: So, then, never?

Rey: Look, I want to find out who set those fires as much as you do. You have my word.

Sharon: Nicholas, I can tell you for a fact that the gcpd, they pursue every case.

Nick: I want the bastard who set the fire.

Rey: So do I.

Nick: The sole purpose of that fire was to draw attention to the planted evidence against my father. If you find that person, it will blow up your case against my dad.

Rey: Oh, so now you're a soldier for victor's cause? What changed your mind?

Arturo: I am not doing this again with you, mia.

Mia: What, being honest about what happened?

Arturo: Nothing happened!

Mia: That's not true.

Arturo: You said it yourself -- nothing that mattered.

Mia: I want it to not matter, okay? I don't want it to be anything, because that's the way it should be.

Arturo: Well, it only matters if we let it.

Mia: And it's that easy for you?

Arturo: No, it's not that easy for me, because you keep calling me over here to talk about things we have no business discussing! I mean, does it feel smart to you, mia? Does it feel like a good idea?

Mia: My head is all over the place with this. I don't know what I will do or say.

Arturo: To who? Rey?

Mia: To him. To myself. I -- I don't know!

Arturo: Why are you doing this? Why -- why are you talking about it, making me talk about it? Wh-why?

Mia: Because if I don't say anything, I'm afraid I'll explode!

Arturo: Mia, that night stays between you and me, all right? Secrets in this town never stay private.

Mia: I didn't come to town for you.

Arturo: I never said you did.

Mia: But you thought it.

Arturo: Of course. I mean, you show up at dark horse, you get in my face. And then, at the party, you scream to everybody there about our affair.

Mia: You know how I am. Don't act all surprised. But I know, whatever I said or thought or felt, I want rey. Okay? I know that in my head. But then, out of nowhere, the other night, you --

Arturo: It's not out of nowhere. It's never out of nowhere with you, mia.

Mia: You say things like that, and I don't know what you want me to say back.

Arturo: Nothing! Okay? Because it's done. Nothing like this will ever happen again. Daddy diaper duty...

Phyllis: Glad you came back. I think we should talk about this.

Nick: Yeah. If by talk you mean, uh, exchange information, then let's do that. But if you expect me to let my dad sit in jail, that is not an option. I'm going to get him home to the ranch with my mother, where he belongs.

Phyllis: And I understand that. I absolutely do. Okay. I loathe victor.

[ Huffs ] And I'm sure there are prettier ways I can get my point across, but that is not more important than you. Than this. You know? Us. And I'm sorry. I know that you are worried about your mother and what she needs, even if that is victor.

Nick: She's going through hell.

Phyllis: You know, the fire at the stables, if that was so the cops could find a gun and some shirt, I mean, that's scary stuff. Why doesn't nikki just move out? She can go back to victoria'S.

Nick: No, she's not gonna be chased from her home. But she did allow me to beef up security at the ranch.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I know it's driving you crazy that she's all alone there except for the staff.

Nick: I have to respect her judgment.

Phyllis: I know that can be difficult when it comes to someone you love. I get that. Or at least I'm trying to. So, I mean, after the memorial, what? Did you talk to your mom about arson and, what, she convinced you that someone's setting up victor?

Nick: She left me with no doubt in my mind that my father had nothing to do with what happened to J.T.

Phyllis: What did she say? I want to be with you on this, nick. And maybe what nikki said to you that changed your mind will convince me, too.

Cane: But the night before your sentencing, paris is what we held onto. How has it changed? I don't understand this.

Lily: I thought you came because of my letter.

Cane: I did.

Lily: Did you read it? Because I said you and I never talk about the now.

Cane: That's what we're doing right now, isn't it? We are talking about the now. But it's okay if we also talk about the future.

Lily: No. It's too far away.

Cane: Baby, it's just months.

Lily: Every day here is a lifetime.

Cane: I know that. That is why paris is so important, and that's 'cause it's our touchstone.

Lily: It hurts too much, cane.

Cane: Look, I understand that you are right. I understand the now is what matters.

Lily: [ Sighs ] I know I'm -- I'm all over the place.

Cane: Baby, wherever you go, that's where I want to be, okay? And I'm not gonna go anywhere.

Lily: Well, the kids are, though. They're gonna be off to college soon. You know, they'll be on the other side of the country by this time next year.

Cane: Okay, but we don't know that. I mean, when their college acceptances come in, maybe they'll stay local.

Lily: Because of me?

Cane: Why is that wrong?

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Cane: Hey.

Lily: At least there's no college applications for sam, right? Not for him. [ Scoffs ] No essays for him.

Cane: Hold on. Just -- hey. Mattie's essay. Here.

Lily: Um, do you think that, maybe, uh -- maybe she can, um... read it to me over the phone?

Cane: Okay. Of -- of course.

Lily: Okay. I'd like that. Um... I'm sorry. I have to go now.

Cane: Wait. Hang on. Hang on. What -- what do you mean you have to go? Visitation's not over.

Lily: Well, my class is about to start.

Cane: Well, it has to start right now?

Lily: Yeah, it's on the schedule. I can't throw things out of whack on my first day.

Cane: Well, maybe someone can cover for you. I mean, can -- can they cover for you, maybe?

Lily: No. It's my job.

Cane: Okay. I know it's your job, but it's just one day.

Lily: Cane, I just told you that I'm lucky to even have this assignment. I mean, look, I'm happy that you came unexpectedly, you know, but if I had known, I wouldn't have arranged this. I need the women to know that they can count on me.

Cane: Well, I'm sure they have visitors, too. I mean, they'll understand, won't they?

Lily: No, actually. A lot of them don'T. So I can't just throw in their face that my loyal, faithful, successful, businessman husband came to visit me. You get that, right? Sorry -- cane, have you been listening to me at all?

Sharon: I know I have no reason to apologize for nick's behavior, but we've just known each other for so long, a part of me feels responsible for him.

Rey: Yeah, nick doesn't even register half the time, so...

Sharon: You look so preoccupied. Is it another case?

Rey: I should probably just say it. Uh, mia knows that we were together in kenosha. But not about us sharing the same hotel room. So if it comes up...

Sharon: Oh, of course. Yeah, I would never... I know that you didn't want to get into it with her that night when you two spoke.

Rey: It seemed like the right thing at the time. It seems like the right thing not to mention the fact that the motel was completely booked. But maybe I don't give mia enough credit.

Sharon: You two talked it through?

Rey: Yeah, I told her nothing happened, and she believed me. You know, things haven't always played out like this for us in the past. Maybe that's because mia was younger, or 'cause she runs hot. You know, emotional. But it's like... [ Sighs ] It's like she finally has faith in me. Like it sunk in that she doesn't have to worry anymore, or spin things out in her head. All the ways things could go wrong. We're back on track.

Sharon: That'S...wonderful. That's what you wanted. You should let yourself be happy about it, rey.

Rey: I was [Scoffs] So wrong. About everything. I could have blown this chance with mia. If I had made other choices. I didn't realize what i stood to lose. And when I... think of the other outcomes --

Sharon: You know what, what you're feeling is called relief. It's recognition that you make good decisions. You should give yourself a break.

Rey: I've made one rule for myself. One rule for as long as I can remember. I'm not gonna be the man my father was. I won't be. Our grandparents checked their smartphones

Cane: Of course your job is important, okay? I -- I've missed you. I've missed you, and I -- I'm being selfish, and I admit it. It's just...

[ Sighs ] Every second I get to spend with you, sweetheart, it's like my paris. I know it's too much to ask, but can't you just push the class, I don't know, 30 minutes?

Lily: I didn't know that you were coming. You know, I-I made this commitment. So for you to ask this of me... look, I know that this is hard for you. I do. But you have a life outside of here. You have choices that you get to make every single day. I don'T. I don't choose when I wake up. I don't choose what I eat. I don't choose when I take a shower. But I can lead this class. And you want me to choose -- what do you want me to prove to you?

Cane: I don't want you to prove anything. So, you made a commitment. Maybe you should just -- just go and honor it, then.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] You know, you say that we're in this together, but I don't feel like we're on the same side.

[ Sighs ] Cane, I need your support. Like you said.

Cane: Well, I'm standing right here. I'm not the one who's walking away. Hey -- [ Sighs ]

Arturo: This is how it works, mia. You said it yourself. No one forgets their first love, but people grow up. You know, they have real relationships.

Mia: Are you saying what we had wasn't real?

Arturo: No, it was. Back then. But we were so young. It was always gonna end. Like fireworks. You know, they're loud and exciting, but... it's over.

Mia: It's in the past. It's been in the past for a long time now.

Arturo: I was never gonna be the one to make you happy. You know, that's why it ended. And all those reasons are still there.

Mia: Rey is everything I've ever wanted.

Arturo: And he's never gonna let you down. So the other night, we put it away, and we move on.

Phyllis: Whatever nikki said --

Nick: I can't get into the details.

Phyllis: I would love the broad strokes. I mean, is this you saying that victor is innocent, or you would just like him home for nikki's sake? I imagine she was going on and on about the fire, the accident, her M.S., Sobriety, which I imagine got to you. Of course it would and -- and nikki depends on victor. But she's just as strong as he is, frankly. But how does this translate into "victor didn't do it"?

Nick: My dad is innocent.

Phyllis: You hope so.

Nick: No, I know he is.

Phyllis: All right. Well, that's some pretty amazing psychic powers you got going on.

Nick: Look, can we just let it go, please? We're not gonna agree on this.

Phyllis: Yeah, we're not gonna agree on this. We're not gonna agree on this. But, you know, nikki must have been pretty convincing, so someone must have convinced her. How could she be so sure?

Nick: Because my mom is the one --

[ Sighs ] My mom is the one who knows my father the best. And if she tells me that my dad is innocent, then I believe her.

Phyllis: Okay.

Nick: Okay?

Phyllis: I understand.

Nick: What does that mean?

Phyllis: You love your mother. And I respect that. You stand by nikki. And I'm with you.
