Episode #11349 ~ Nick adjusts to life without Chelsea; Mariah comforts Hilary; Lily worries about Devon.

Provided By Suzanne

Hilary: Are you firing me?

Devon: I'm not firing you. But you can consider this a warning. And what you did isn't gonna be forgotten by me or by lily or by cane anytime soon.

Phyllis: I think chelsea is the one who knocked out sharon, and she's making a run for it with the boys.

Victoria: Christian! Hey. What are you doing out here?

Chelsea: My dearest nick, by the time you read this, I will be long gone. I'm sorry. I only ask that you believe me when I say that what I felt for you was real. I love you, nick, and I always will.

Sharon: [ Grunts, gasps ] Ow! Oh...

Mariah: Mom? Mom, are you okay? What's wrong?

Sharon: I... I'm fine. I-I was just having a bad dream.

Mariah: Okay. Well, uh, why don't you just close your eyes and get some rest. The nurses had you up half the night.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] I don't want any more rest. I -- I want to go home. I keep worrying about faith.

Mariah: [ Scoffs ] Faith is absolutely fine. Okay? She slept over at kendra's, and she's gonna go to school straight from there.

Sharon: Does she know what happened?

Mariah: Well, I told her that you got a bump on your head, and the doctors just wanted to make sure that everything was okay.

Sharon: Well, now it's morning, and I want to get out of here.

Mariah: Why don't you just take it easy, okay? A head injury is not to be messed with.

Sharon: Yeah. You're right. Thank you for caring.

Mariah: Of course I care.

Sharon: Well, help me convince them to let me go home so I can get some answers. I mean, do the police know who did this yet? Because whoever it was doesn't deserve to be running around free.

Victor: Police departments within a 500-mile radius have been alerted, all right? But so far no sign of chelsea or connor.

Nikki: Oh, my god. That sweet little boy. Somebody has to find him.

Victor: I have my own team of investigators on this. They'll get her. But you know one thing that's helpful -- the police got ahold of the letter that chelsea wrote, where she confessed that she had stolen money from fenmore'S. On top of her other felonies, they are more than cooperative in trying to find her.

Nikki: Well, you said she traded cars with jordan, so we don't know what kind of car she's driving. She probably has a fake I.D.

Victor: She's doing this without any support whatsoever. She's gonna run out of stamina. She's going to make mistakes. And when she does, I promise you, we will nab her. Under no circumstances will I allow her to abscond with adam's son. Not gonna happen.

Nick: What's going on, man? You don't want to eat this?

[ Cereal crunches ] I know this is one of your favorites. You know, I could, uh, hook you up with some waffles, maybe. Some cut-up bananas?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Sorry, man. It's just us.

Phyllis: Could you be a teensy bit less obvious, please?

Hilary: About what?

Phyllis: Seriously?

Hilary: Well, I am still blown away by this chelsea story.

Phyllis: If nick would have listened to me, he could have stopped chelsea from taking connor. But all he would do is defend her and give me a lot of grief.

Hilary: I can relate. I did a show reminding the world about chelsea's professional grifter ways, and I felt like I was doing a public service. But will anyone come to me now and thank me?

[ Snorts ] Hell no. I can make the most humbling apology in the history of television, and still I cannot be trusted. I'm just being self-serving. Didn't mean a word of it.

Phyllis: And we're back to devon.

Hilary: No. No. We are most certainly not back to devon. He's so furious with me he won't even speak to me. I -- [ Sighs ] I think maybe I lost him this time. For good.

Phyllis: If you want him back, we'll get him. Just say the word.

Nick: Hey, you remember that

secret trip you were telling me about last night? You know, the one that you were supposed to go on with connor and chelsea? She had a last-minute change of plans. You know, that's the way life is sometimes. So it's just gonna be chelsea and connor going on that trip.

[ Sighs ] It's gonna be different, you know, not having them around. But I'm gonna make sure that we have lots of fun, okay? We get to stay home. With the rest of our family. And no one else is gonna leave us again, okay? I promise you that. You know, faith is gonna be around all the time. And you're gonna get to see your cousins more -- you know, johnny, katie, and reed. They love you so much. It's gonna be hard, you know, at first. It'll be hard. But your daddy's gonna always be there for you, bud. I'm gonna help you through this. It's gonna be okay.

Hilary: And if saying that my apology meant nothing didn't sting badly enough, devon walks right over to simone and practically starts making out with her. Talk about humiliating.

Phyllis: She's just a temporary distraction.

Hilary: She's a knockout. With talent. And none of my baggage. And... she's new. And men love new.

Phyllis: Okay. I still say, if we put our minds together, we can entice him back in your direction.

Hilary: Devon always knows when I'm hatching a scheme. The way he feels about me right now... [ Scoffs ] That would be the ultimate turn-off.

Phyllis: Okay. No, I-I-I get it. But what impresses me here, what's important, is that you are actually admitting your feelings for this man.

Hilary: Mm.

Phyllis: Uh-huh. And that -- that is amazing. They are alive and well.

Hilary: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Perfect timing. Right when he despises me again.

Phyllis: I truly doubt he's that angry at you.

Hilary: To quote him directly,

don't waste your time or mine trying to get me to forgive you. Just do your job. Then he, um -- he reminded me that I was in breach, and that I should never pull something that manipulative ever again.

Phyllis: Okay. That's ouchy.

Hilary: Yeah, devon's -- he's hurt. He's in pain. But... I don't know. Now he's made it obvious that he's moved on.

Phyllis: Okay. Then to hell with him. Plenty of other fish in the sea.

Hilary: You know what makes it worse? It's that I feel like I've lost another friend. Maybe forever. And if devon's just my boss, giving me orders and just non-stop critiques, I don't know. I don't know. I don't think I could take that.

Phyllis: Honey, you can take anything that this life throws you. The question is if you want to.

Hilary: I want devon. I know that.

Phyllis: Okay. My advice is that you step back. You give this some time. You let this whole simone thing run its course. And you focus on what makes you happy -- the thought of you nurturing that beautiful little baby. When you are filled with hope and anticipation of all the love you have to give a child, that is what makes you absolutely attractive, especially to a man who said he once loved you enough to dream of building a future together with you.

Hilary: How did you know that this is exactly what I needed to hear?

Phyllis: Great minds.

Hilary: There's only one problem. If I'm gonna go full speed ahead on trying to have a baby as a single mom, then... I need to try iui again, and --

[ Sighs ] After how the last donor turned out...

Phyllis: All right. Then look for another donor. You keep searching until you find the perfect one. If you want a baby, don't let devon stand in your way.

Hilary: Really?

Phyllis: Yeah. Make him the icing on your cake. Just not your whole cake. Now, if you take one piece of advice from me, let it be that one.

Sharon: The police really have no leads? How is that possible?

Mariah: There were no fingerprints on the metal pitcher the robber hit you with, and none on the register. Phyllis had this [Chuckles] Theory, although it's totally bonkers. She was running around here last night accusing chelsea, of all people. That's insane, right? But she must have told you that, which is why you guys have been so chummy lately.

Sharon: Then... you know why phyllis thinks chelsea would go to that extreme?

Mariah: Supposedly she was ripping off fenmore's, selling her designs on a phony website. Because you and phyllis both knew, chelsea decided to attack you. I know. It's -- [ Laughs ] It's crazy. But it doesn't matter, because it's all a wild, insane fantasy from phyllis' fevered brain. Nick agrees that she has really lost it this time.

Sharon: How is he?

Mariah: He's fine. He's probably just exhausted from pacing the floor worrying about you.

Sharon: Oh, he was? Really?

Mariah: You know how much he still cares about you.

Sharon: It's pretty amazing, when you think about everything we've been through over the years.

Mariah: Yeah, tell me about it. Usually someone would never forgive somebody coming between them and their child. But nick did. And he's back to being one of your biggest supporters.

Sharon: Nick is the most resilient man I have ever met. He can really survive anything that life throws at him.

Mariah: Seems that way.

Sharon: I should give him a call. (Vo) make her day with

Victor: I don't care what happens to chelsea. Make sure that I get my grandson back. I want him home, safe and sound. Is that clear? Get back to work.

Nikki: I know how much this is hurting you. Connor's your last connection to adam.

[ Sighs ] I just can't believe -- I mean, I-I hate myself for letting chelsea waltz out of here last night with both of those boys! But she was acting strange. I just couldn't put my finger on it. But I certainly didn't think it would be anything like this.

[ Sighs ] You're probably upset with me. At least she had the sense to bring christian back and not take nicholas' son.

Victor: We can be thankful for that.

Nikki: [Voice breaking] I love both of those boys so much. And I don't care which one is biological and which one isn'T. It doesn't make any difference to me.

Victor: I know you've never played favorites. And I know that you're as heartbroken as I am.

Nikki: Well, I wish there was something we could do, but... apparently there isn'T. We have to wait.

Victor: We may not be able to confront chelsea. But we know where nicholas lives.

Nikki: Are you suggesting that we go charging over there? The way things are between the two of you? It will just make matters worse!

Victor: I have another grandson living under his roof. And I'm not about to lose him, too.

Phyllis: I assume no one has spotted chelsea?

Nick: Well, nobody ever said she was a bad con.

Phyllis: Just a bad person, right?

Nick: All right. Let's have it. I'm sure you got a lot on your chest. Uh, you warned me.

Phyllis: I did. Multiple times. But I'm not gonna say

I told you so.

Nick: Why not? After some of the things I said to you, I deserve it.

Phyllis: What? Y-you mean the part where you called me an irrational crackpot full of conspiracy theories?

Nick: Yeah.

Phyllis: That's okay. I've been called worse. And you are suffering now, so that wouldn't be too classy of me, to let you have it.

Nick: Fine. You can gloat later. But thank you for being so predictably stubborn and not letting it go.

Phyllis: My specialty.

Nick: I heard you went out to the ranch to check on the boys personally.

Phyllis: Yeah. I'm just -- I'm so sorry I wasn't able to stop chelsea.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I should have trusted you.

Phyllis: I shouldn't have given you years of reasons not to.

Nick: You know, you're a very hard person to thank.

Phyllis: You're welcome.

Nick: Chelsea left me a note.

Phyllis: Oh, man. Seriously?

Nick: She said some pretty amazing things.

Phyllis: Whatever sob story she gave you, I am not interested in hearing it, okay?

Nick: I don't even know how much of it I believe. But she said something about christian that doesn't make sense to me.

Hilary: Nope. [ Sighs ] Nope. Oh, god, no. Hmmm. Mm. You're cute. Ugh. Not father material. Oh, my god. Not reproduce. Huh. Over 6 feet. Easy on the eyes.

[ Breathing lamaze-style ] This isn't that bad. I thought having a baby would be a lot tougher.

Don: Okay, now. On the count of three, I want you to push. Ready?

Hilary: Yes. I can't wait to meet my baby.

Don: Here it goes. One, two, three. Now push.

Hilary: [ Breathes deeply ]

Don: Perfect.

Hilary: [ Sighs ]

Don: You are doing great. Keep going. There!

Hilary: [ Huffs, groans ]

[ Baby crying ] Oh! Is that him? I-I -- I think I hear a boy.

Don: Good ear. He is a handsome little man, indeed.

Hilary: [ Squeals ] A son! I have a son! I can't wait to meet him. May I hold him?

Don: I'm sorry. I'm keeping this child all to myself.

Hilary: Excuse me? No, I'm his -- I'm his mother. Is there -- is there a problem?

Don: No problem. I've performed another miracle.

Hilary: Wait. You're not a doctor. You're my... you're my donor.

Don: Thank you so much for delivering my son. Daddy's got it from here.

Hilary: Wait, what?! No! Wait --

Don: I'll be raising the boy on my own.

Hilary: No, you can't do that. We -- we signed papers. Give him to me. No! Come back here! Give him to me! He's my baby! Give him -- he's mine!

[ Gasps ]

Hilary: Oh!

Carl: Oh!

Hilary: Oh, excuse me. I'm sor-- I -- I know you.

Carl: Well, my lucky day.

Hilary: You're... um... I probably shouldn't tempt fate, but... I can't help myself.

[ Chuckles ] I'm hilary curtis, and... this is your baby. I'm carrying your child. I was inseminated eight months ago at the facility on east chestnut.

Carl: Of course. I've donated there a few times.

Hilary: I'm taking a huge risk by telling you --

Carl: No. I can tell you're going to be an incredible mother.

Hilary: You mean that?

Carl: My name's carl, by the way.

Hilary: It's a pleasure.

Getting sloppy, carl.

Carl: [ Sighs disgustedly ]

Hilary: Um... wait a minute. You're arresting him? There must be a mistake.

No mistake. The guy's wanted for a triple murder.

Carl: Bring junior to visit me in prison, huh?

Mariah: That one looks decent.

Hilary: Oh, my god! Mariah, don't sneak up on me like that!

Mariah: Sorry. You're just looking through potential sperm donors, right? I just thought I'd let you know that I approve of that one.

Hilary: Oh, no, no. Forget it. I am done with this.

Phyllis: I-I don't know what chelsea meant with the letter. You know, I-I think you should just burn it. Forget about that woman, okay? And her ugly little lies.

Nick: In the letter, she talked about both connor and christian. But she left christian behind. Why do you think she did that? Why do you think she changed her mind?

Phyllis: [ Exclaims ] There could be a hundred reasons.

Nick: Like what?

Phyllis: I -- [ Sighs ] You know, for one, chelsea was racing out of town. You know, maybe she realized that two kids would weigh her down more than one. You know... maybe she realized that she would be looking at a kidnapping charge, you know, if she was taking a kid that wasn't hers.

Nick: Yeah, I guess that's a possibility. I want to believe that she felt guilty. You know, for trying to take my son away from me. But I realize trying to figure out where chelsea's head was at is probably pointless. You know, I don't even know what was real about chelsea and what was part of her scam. I mean, the way she lied to my face with such conviction, swearing that she was innocent.

Phyllis: Everyone was taken in by her. Everyone who knew her was conned by her in one way or the other.

Nick: Who takes the prize? I mean, who did she use the most?

Phyllis: Come on. There had to be something good about chelsea, or you wouldn't have fallen in love with her. You didn't want to see anything but the good in her, just like you did with me. Back in the day. Being with you changed me for the better. The world needs more people like you.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, I'm not sure gullibility is a trait to admire, but I will take the compliment.

Phyllis: Please just be happy that you saw her real colors, her true colors, before you married her.

Nick: Yeah. And before she could legally adopt christian.

Phyllis: Definitely.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Nick: Is that mine?

[ Ringing continues ]

[ Line ringing ]

Phyllis: No, it's mine.

Nick: You know, I realize I'm probably better off without chelsea in my life. But connor, that's rough. You know, I promised adam I'd look out for him. And christian, he's too young to understand what's going on, you know. He just sees that there's two people that he loves who aren't around anymore.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know. I'm just so sorry that you and the little guy have to go through this, you know?

Nick: You taking off?

Phyllis: Yeah. I have to deal with something before it turns into a massive headache. I'll see you soon. At petsmart, we understand that different pets

Mariah: So, all of those hours researching sperm donors and you're just giving up?

Hilary: You don't get it, okay? You can't even imagine what it's like to try and choose a father for your child from an online profile, okay?

Mariah: You're right. I don't get that. But daddy issues, that I get. My biological father was an immature jock who got my mother pregnant in high school and left her high and dry, and then the guy that --

Hilary: The father who raised you is a notorious cult leader. We all know the story, mariah. Now can you get to the point?

Mariah: The point is, I had crummy luck with dads, but I didn't let it ruin my life. And regardless of who you choose and what their flaws are, you are still going to be the mom. You're gonna be there every day doing the heavy lifting.

Hilary: Well, you... you didn't have a say growing up. And neither did I. But I do now. And this insemination thing, I don't know. All of a sudden, it just -- it feels wrong. And I'm gonna be responsible for this child forever. And I just -- I don't want to make a mistake. And don't get me wrong. I'm sure that it is a great way to go for a lot of other women. Just not me.

Mariah: So, that's it? There's not gonna be a mini hilary in a few years, bossing people around and producing the show?

Hilary: Okay, I don't find that funny.

Mariah: I wasn't trying to make a --

Hilary: I do want to have a child, mariah. But unless I find a man and I fall in love with him, and we decide to have a child together, then... there's not gonna be a baby in my future. No tiny little hands reaching out, no chubby cheeks to kiss, no...bright, smiling eyes to come home to every night. And no angel to sing to sleep. Like my mom used to do to me.

Mariah: Uh... it'S... it's okay. It's okay. Come here.

Hilary: [ Sobs ]

Hilary: Um...

Devon: Hey. What's wrong with you?

Hilary: Nothing. It's, uh... it's personal. Okay? And according to your dictum, it's none of your concern. So. What business are you here on? Must be important, hm, if you would actually deign to talk to me.

Devon: I'm here to talk about the show. 'Cause I've been hands-off since our blow up, and it's time for me to be more involved 'cause i have an investment to protect.

Hilary: Oh, yeah? Hmph. Well, this investment can protect herself.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart. We had to come. Oh! You doing okay?

Nick: Yeah, I'm all right.

Nikki: This must be devastating.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I'm surprised you're here.

Victor: I'm always there for my family, son. And this time, my grandson needs me.

Sharon: Oh! Just come right in. Don't worry about the patient.

Phyllis: I saw you were calling nick. So obviously the patient is healthy enough to stir up her favorite brand of drama.

Sharon: How did you see that I was calling nick?

Phyllis: Doesn't matter.

Sharon: I thought you were out of control last night, but you've officially lost it. You need someone to rein you in.

Phyllis: No, you need someone to enlighten you about what's going on in the world. And unlike nick, I have no problem rubbing how wrong you were in your smug, self-righteous face.

Devon: When I bought the show back from you and took it over, I asked you to implement certain changes, okay? Now, you can be as self-involved as you want to be on your own personal time, but when the red light on that camera comes on, you need to be about your guests, and about the stories that you have pitched in advance and gotten approved by me.

Hilary: Yes. And I've heard your concerns, and we are taking steps to address those. However, every show that I've done where I've been more spontaneous and intimate and revealing more about myself as a human being, they've had killer ratings, okay? People want to see me on their screen, okay, not a puppet. Frankly, I think that you are making this personal.

Devon: You can think whatever you'd like to think. But I'm the boss, and it's my prerogative.

Hilary: And I'm just expected to blindly follow orders?

Devon: When I make a reasonable request, yeah, i expect it to be carried out.

Hilary: Well, never fear, devon. I am very familiar with my new situation around here, and you -- you have made in painfully clear that you can't stand to be around me, so I'm gonna do us both a favor. I quit.

Nikki: I just thought it was so odd that you wanted to take the boys sledding on the same day that faith's mother had been attacked. But when I asked chelsea about it, she gave me this song and dance about how you wanted to have family time before the wedding, and... I really should have asked you first about it, since I didn't hear anything about that plan. But she was so convincing. She was so believable.

Nick: Mom, it's -- it's not your fault, all right? I don't blame you.

Nikki: I do. I blame myself.

Nick: Well, don'T. This is on chelsea, 100%.

Victor: I second that.

[ Car rattles ]

Nick: There he is! The man of the hour! The star of today's tv show.

Nikki: Wow! Who's here? Come here, sweetheart. Ohhh! Mwah! I love you so much. Look who's here. Grandpa's here.

Victor: Come here, come here, come here, come here, come here.

Christian: That car.

Victor: Yes. It's a beautiful car. I love cars like that. Race cars. I love race cars. You miss connor, don't you? Well, we all miss connor. However you feel, I am here, your grandma's here, your daddy is here. There are so many people who love you, okay? So, nothing to worry about.

Nikki: No, let him be. This little boy needs as much love as he can get right now.

[ Christian babbles ]

Victor: That's right.

Christian: Car.

Victor: Oh, yes. Oh!

Sharon: So, all that ridiculous nonsense you were spewing about chelsea going on the run with the boys...

Phyllis: It's not nonsense. So you can start apologizing to me right now.

Sharon: Or is this just a ploy to keep me from saying anything to nick?

Phyllis: [Laughing] Do you really think I am that much of an inept liar that I would make up something that you could check out?

Sharon: Right, phyllis. What was I thinking? You're an amazingly skilled liar.

Phyllis: Thank you. Fyi -- chelsea left nick a goodbye note/confession, admitting in writing that she hijacked those sales from fenmore'S.

Sharon: Did she admit to anything else?

Phyllis: Well, no, she conveniently left out the part where she bashed you over the head and ripped you off. And she also did not blab about christian's paternity. Thank goodness.

Sharon: I-I still can't believe that chelsea would go that far. Was she trying to kill me?

Phyllis: No. I -- I think that she was trying to delay you from spilling the truth. Give herself enough time to grab the boys and get out of dodge.

Sharon: She took connor and christian?

Phyllis: She started to, and then she thought better of it. She left little christian in his pajamas on victoria's doorstep in the middle of the night.

Sharon: Dear god.

Phyllis: Yeah. You know something, even in the end, she had enough heart not to rip nick's son away from him.

Sharon: Is that supposed to be aimed at me?

Phyllis: Chelsea's busted. She left town. She took her little blackmail threat with her. This paternity secret, it's safe now, sharon. We don't have to blow things up anymore.

Sharon: Yeah, except that we'd be lying to nick for the rest of his life.

Phyllis: If you pick up the phone, today of all days, after he's been shattered, and you want to drop the bomb?

Sharon: I'm not just gonna blurt it out, phyllis. I'm not that callous.

Phyllis: Oh, I -- I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Remind me. Remind me how you usually tell nick his kids aren't his? How do you do it?

Sharon: Stop it. Stop.

Phyllis: I'm starting to think you get a perverse pleasure from stopping him from being a father to his children. Any children except yours.

Sharon: That's not what I'm doing. And I'm not gonna sit here and take a morality lesson from the likes of you.

Phyllis: Okay, then prove that you're a better person. Nick is shattered. He just lost the woman he loved and the child that he was planning to adopt. How cruel can you be?

Hilary: Ahh! This is the best decision I've ever made. A clean break. [Inhales sharply] Exactly what I needed. I should have done it when i sold you gc buzz.

Devon: Does one of those files happen to have your contract in it?

Hilary: Probably. Although it'll end up in a circular file soon, hm?

Devon: I suggest you read it. Because when I bought gc buzz, it was contractually dependent on you coming with it. So if you quit, you're gonna have to repay me, plus costs. 'Cause you have no legal standing to resign unless i sign off, and I don'T.

Hilary: You are actually gonna hold me to a contract even though you hate me, and you don't think I'm performing up to snuff? What is wrong with that picture? Why -- why won't you just let me go?

Devon: Because you're the one that keeps telling that this show is you. And you are this show. And that's what I bought. And you're under contract to me. So, I expect you to come to work tomorrow on time, broadcast this show while sticking to the material that I have approved. Make sure hilary is in

the hilary hour.

Victor: You know why you're tough? Because you inherited that from your dad. And he in turn inherited that from his old man.

Nick: Toughness isn't the only thing that matters.

Victor: You know, when I was a little boy, I went through something like you did. Little difference, though. Because you have me, you have your grandma, you have your daddy. You have so many people who love you. Things will only get better. I promise you that. I'm gonna make sure that you enjoy every minute of the good life you deserve, okay?

[ Christian babbles ] Oh, let me see. What is that? Oh, my god. Those are fancy shoes, you know.

Christian: They're my shoes.

Victor: Yes.

Phyllis: You know this is partly your fault, right?

Sharon: How on earth is this my fault?

Phyllis: Because if you did what I told you to do and tell the cops that chelsea was the one who assaulted you, they would have stopped her in time. But now she's on the run, okay, to who-knows-where with an innocent little boy.

Sharon: I didn't know who hit me. I would have been lying.

Phyllis: For the greater good.

Sharon: You didn't know that then, and you still don'T. As usual, phyllis, you're speculating. Chelsea didn't confess in that note to attacking me. The police, they have no evidence.

Phyllis: You know as well as I do that chelsea did this. She was willing to give you a traumatic brain injury to cover her own ass. She packed up her stuff, she took the boys, and she took off. And by some miracle, she changed her mind and decided to leave christian behind. And now you want to take the one solace that nick has, you want to rip it away from him? For what? For some misguided sense of honor? What?

Sharon: I'm trying to do the right thing. Nick deserves the truth.

Phyllis: No, no! Sharon, he deserves an ounce of happiness. He deserves not to be gutted again. You tell me what the truth is gonna prove. You tell me who it's gonna help. You do this, you're gonna be no better than chelsea. Think about that.
