Episode # 9597 ~ Victor Makes a Deal With Adam

Proofread By Emma

Abby:  So once the judge rules decide how much we're gonna get, how does it work? Like, will the money be transferred to our account today?

Victoria: Well, uh, I think that would be a good question for Leslie, since we're dealing with three very massive, complicated trusts.

Nick: Probably depends on whether it's an all-cash deal or if Judge Phelps just decides to award us Beauty of Nature.

Victoria: I assume it'll be a few days before all the paperwork clears.

Abby: Okay, well, we've waited this long, right? (Chuckles)

Victoria: Right. That's right. (Sighs)

Nick: You know, there's something, uh, I need to take care of. I'll see you guys at the hearing.

Victoria: All right, sounds good.

Abby: (Sighs) Mm...

Victoria: No, it's okay. Shake it off.

Abby: (Sighs) Yeah, I know. I know.

Victoria: Yeah. Focus. Concentrate. Breathe.

Abby: (Sighs)

Victoria: Hmm?

Nick: Oh very nice.

Victoria: What is it? What?

Abby: "Shattered empire, shattered family, Newman for sale?"

Nick: Media's sharpening their knives. Better get used to it.

Leslie: And?

Michael: This article contains details that could only have come from Judge Phelps' office, or... from a lawyer who has connections to it. Releasing information to the press in order to influence a private arbitration... its bad form, donít you think?

Leslie: I don't like what you're implying.

Michael: Just callin' it the way I see it.

Leslie: Glass houses, Counsel. You think I didn't read up on your colorful history with the Wisconsin state bar? Not to mention, your client is the poster boy for underhanded tricks. Makes sense you're representing him.

Adam: You know for a fact Sharon didn't kill Skye, but you refuse to go to the police unless I help you save your empire. What you should do is march down there...

Victor: (Laughs)

Adam: And tell them what you know, because that's the right thing to do. You know it, and I know it, regardless of some shady business deal. What's so funny, Dad?

Victor: Mm, you're schooling me in ethics?

Adam: Laugh all you want. I'm not gonna lift a finger for you.

Victor: You will, because what I'm about to say to you will help you, and it will help Sharon.

Adam: How do I know I can trust you?

Victor: There's the door. Feel free to walk right out of it. But if you want to keep your fiancťe out of prison, you shut up and listen to what I have to say. Can you do that?

Adam: So what is it that Iím supposed to do in exchange for you getting these charges dropped?

Victor: I want you to go to the arbitration hearing with me and testify on my behalf.

Adam: Testify? To what? What lie do you want me to tell?

Victor: You tell the judge that the trust documents are a fraud.

Adam: And how would I possibly know that they were a fraud?

Victor: Because you forged them.

Adam: Hmm. Of course I did. Now when would I have had time to do that?

Victor: When I was in Mexico and when I handed over the reins of the company to you for a while.

Adam: Okay, back up.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: Why would I have done something like that?

Victor: Because you wanted to lash out at me.

Adam: I could have done that a thousand different ways.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: You know it, and I know it, so why would I monkey with the trusts? What would be in it for me?

Victor: You just wanted to cause trouble for me. You just wanted to create havoc, you know make business tough. You know that the original trusts-- I managed them completely. I did with the funds what I wanted to do. The revised trusts, however, give the children a bit more say. That's what the lawsuit is all about. They complained about the fact that I used some of the trust funds to conduct Newman business without consulting them.

Adam: So you would have assumed that the old trust was still intact? You wouldn't have had any idea that it had been revised?

Victor: No idea, until this lawsuit came up. I looked at the documents, and realized it was a fraud. No one I could talk to until you came to me. You confessed what you had done.

Adam: And the judge would inevitably throw this case out, right out the window. He would reinstate that original trust, wouldn't he? This is-- this is ingenious, Pops.

Victor: Well, I'm glad you think so.

Adam: There's only two small problems with this scenario.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: If you win this case, which you inevitably would if I went along with this, what incentive would you have to go to the authorities and let them know you didn't come forward with what you knew about Skye and what you saw? Why would you tell them that you set up Skyeís fake murder and that you tried to frame me for that murder? That's two counts obstruction, at the very least.

Victor: What's the other problem?

Adam: If I did this...

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: I commit fraud and forgery, and I perjure myself. That would likely mean I would see the side of a prison. Never again will that happen-- ever. You got that? So I'm just gonna go to Sharon and help her myself. I don't need your kind of help.

Victor: (Chuckles)

Sharon: So Jack told me about the footage he has of Victor, which you knew about days ago.

Nick: If you're asking me why I didn't come to you sooner--

Sharon: No, I'm just wondering if that's why you joined the lawsuit. Actually, you know what? I really appreciate the impulse, but those days are over, Nick. I don't want you getting involved in any more of my battles.

Nick: I'm not. This is not about you. This fight was my father's and my own.

Sofia: Thanks.

Malcolm: So you sure I can't buy you some lunch?

Sofia: Um, no. You go ahead and order if you like. I'm not really that hungry.

Malcolm: Yeah. Well, um, it's been a rough past few weeks. You know, I, um, was thinking, uh, I really want us to-- to try and work on gettin' back to the way that I know we can be with each other, Sofia.

Tucker: Neil?

Neil: Hmm?

Tucker: What is it you wanted?

Neil: Um, Tucker, I don't want to alarm you, but this is how far behind we are in our project management since you fired Sofia. Now I know you did what you thought you had to do, but she's far too valuable to lose for good.

Tucker: What do you expect me to do? Hire her back?

Neil: Yes.

Tucker: Forget it-- ain't gonna happen.

Abby: "The plaintiffs' overblown sense of entitlement is evident in the outsized demands they've made-- $3 billion in cash, or an entire division of Newman Enterprises-- daddy's choice. Apparently, none of the three Newman siblings are acquainted with the tale 'The goose that laid the golden egg.'" This is mean. I-I don't even know how this kind of garbage gets on the front page. (Scoffs)

Victoria: I wonder what ever happened to "The only bad publicity is no publicity."

Abby: You know, everybody accuses me of being willing to do anything for attention, and that's not true, not to mention that the people who wrote about "The Naked Heiress" were never this nasty.

Victoria: Whether or not the truth comes out in the paper, when the arbitrator makes his ruling, we're gonna be vindicated.

Sharon: Why would you turn on your father so emphatically if not for me?

Nick: Don't get me wrong. I am disgusted by the way Dad is treating you. But you're not the first person who's become collateral damage from one of Dad's wars. It's gotten to a point where I can't take it anymore. I'm through with my dad, and Iím sure you are, too.

Sharon: Big-time, but he's not my father.

Nick: Well, here are times when I wish he wasn't mine.

Sharon: You don't mean that.

Nick: Oh, yes, I do.

Sharon: But what if your father's out of your life for good? You know it took years to repair the damage after you turned him in for bribery. What if there's no going back this time?

Nick: How am I supposed to maintain any sort of goodwill towards this man who has pulled this much crap? Look, I can't trust my own father anymore. And I'm telling you, anyone who does is a complete fool.

Victor: I will not press charges. And without a victim, the D.A. wonít prosecute.

Adam: Forging trust documents are a felony.

Victor: Yeah, but only if money changes hands, and that wasn't the case. So you won't face jail time, just maybe some probation. That, I think, is a very small price to pay for Sharonís freedom, don't you?

Adam: You still didnít' answer my question.

Victor: Mm.

Adam: How do I know I can trust you? How do I know you will keep your word? I need a guarantee.

Victor: Right. So... uh, Connie, would you kindly ask Michael Baldwin to come in? Thank you. Um, take a look at this.

Adam: What's this?

Victor: Just something to sweeten the deal.

Adam: You've created a trust for me.

Victor: Replacing the one I ripped up years ago. I can sign this right now if you want me to.

Michael: Sign what right now?

Victor: This new trust document revising Adam's old trust. I want you to sit down with him and explain to him what it contains so there's no confusion, all right? Once it has been done, you hold on to the documents until he has delivered on his end of the bargain.

Victor: So are you in or out?

Adam: If I show up at this hearing, that'll be my answer.

Michael: Victor, what the hell is going on?

Victor: If you sign this, you'll be a hero to Sharon, and you will have righted some of the wrongs you have committed against me and my family, not to mention that you'll be a very, very wealthy man. So I'll see you at the arbitration?

Victor: Connie, um, no, just hold-- hold off on that. I don't have any time for that right now, okay? Right. Thank you.

Victor: (Sighs)

Malcolm: I mean, Sofia, I-I should have at least tried to walk in your shoes, see where you were comin' from. Instead, I just-- I directed the anger I had for Drucilla towards you, and I shouldn't have done that, Baby.

Sofia: (Sighs)

Malcolm: I finally realize that Dru kept Lily's paternity a secret to save her own hide. Sofia, you a down girl. You were trying to protect my family

Sofia: (Sighs) When did you stumble upon that epiphany?

Malcolm: Well... (Sighs) Man, I hate to admit it,? But I-I was havin' a conversation with Neil, and my big brother went out of his way to remind me of what a catch you really are.

Sofia: Neil said that?

Malcolm: Yeah.

Tucker: I need to be able to trust my employees, Neil. And with all the top executives out of work right now, I'm sure one of them could take her place without stealin' me blind.

Neil: Hey, Tucker, um, when you were a young man on your way up, are you saying that you never, never, ever made mistakes? Made decisions that, you know, you regretted later? Like one involving, a foreign official and a certain... valuable painting? And hey, come on. The point being, don't you think that Sofia deserves another chance?

Tucker: What's this really about, Neil? When Sofia came here, you could barely stand to work with her. Now you're her champion all of a sudden? What changed?

Neil: I was wrong about Sofia. She's a rare talent.

Tucker: Yeah, she is very good at what she does. But I didn't get where I am by keeping disloyal employees around.

Neil: Well, hold-- hold on, Man. Wait. Hold on, uh, disloyal? I know you remember my family was in great danger, right? She was just protecting a mother and her children. Now you may not have approved of her priorities, but her motives were pure. And she's an honorable woman, Tucker. McCall Unlimited needs her. I need her. And if we're talkin' man-to-man right now, I think you need her. So how about it, Tucker, hmm? Do you think you can find it in your heart to forgive her?

Sofia: (Sighs)

Malcolm: Baby, with Cane being gone, I feel like we're-- we're going down, you know, a new path, you know, a path we never expected. And I want to walk this path with you by my side. Sofia, I want to put all this behind us.

Sofia: I want that, too, Malcolm, more than anything.

(Cell phone rings)

Sofia: Oh.

Malcolm: Who is it?

Sofia: Neil. I wonder what he could want.

Malcolm: One way to find out.

Sofia: Yeah, Neil. What's up? He did? Wait, now? Uh, hold on. Neil says Tucker wants to see me right away.

Victoria: Liesl? Hi. Oh, my gosh, haven't seen you since I left Newman. How are you? Oh, and this must be Connor. He's gotten so big. Look at you.

Liesl: Connor, this is Ms. Newman, the woman I used to work for, before I was let go after 15 years.

Victoria: Uh, let go? I-I don't understand. Uh, you were one of the best statisticians that I've ever worked with. I...

Liesl: My whole department's gone, thanks to this feud of yours.

Abby: Thank you very much. (Gasps)

Woman: Hey, Sweetie.

Abby: Hey. Mwah.

Woman: How are you? You look amazing. You know what? I would love, love, love to interview you.

Abby: Oh, my, okay, well, my order won't be up for a few minutes yet.

Woman: Plenty of time. Come on.

Abby: Great.

Woman: Okay, so we have to dish.

Abby: Okay, well, I am so excited about what's coming up next for "The Naked Heiress." The response to my animal rights message was so unbelievably positive. I am branching out to a second cause-- reducing our carbon footprint. If all of my fans rode bikes to work one day a week instead of driving--

Woman: Abby, Abby, Abby. No, no, no, no, no, really, that's fascinating, but I want to know the story on your big lawsuit. I mean, you're about to screw over your father for billions. Now that, my friend, is a story.

Abby: (Scoffs)

Victor: I have seen it. What do you want?

Nick: According to this article and our sources, Judge Phelps is going to rule against you today.

Victor: Counting your chickens, Son, is never a wise thing to do.

Nick: Now you can sit there and bluff and pretend you're not worried, or we can settle this privately within the family. We can avoid the headache of the media blitz after you lose. So what do you think? You think we can come up with a solution ourselves?

Victoria: I, uh, I did hear that there were layoffs, but I-I didn't realize that... (Sighs) I'm sure that you think that this isn't really fair, but I truly believe that what my brother and sister and I are doing is for the best-- not just for ourselves, of course, but for the whole company and all of the people that work there. You know, once the dust settles, I plan on having more of a say in how Beauty of Nature's managed, of and when we, uh... get staff up again, uh, you'll be one of the first people that I call for sure.

Liesl: I appreciate that, Victoria, although I hope you'll forgive me when I say I'll believe it when I see it.

Woman: So are you and "Big daddy" still speaking? What if you lose the lawsuit?

Abby: (Scoffs)

Woman: I mean, will you still show your goodies" if you're not an heiress?

Abby: Wow, uh, I-- I don't want to talk to you after all. (Stammers) The lawsuit that my family's involved with is actually none of the public's business, so thanks--

Woman: Listen up, Little Girl. This is not how this game is played.

Abby: Excuse me?

Woman: You heard me. You chose to be a celebrity. You're fair game. You don't get to pick and choose when you want to be in the spotlight.

Abby: Oh, you just watch me.

Woman: No, you watch me. I'm one of the people who helped make you a phenomena, and I can unmake you just as fast.

Abby: You know, my salad is ready. You have a wonderful day.

(Camera utter clicking)

Abby: (Offs) Nice. Get out of my face.

Victor: You know I've tried settling but, alas, your sisters weren't interested. If the Newman name now gets a bad reputation in the press, that's on you.

Nick: Finger-pointing isn't doing anyone any good. Let's work this out while we can. We can preserve Newman Enterprises and keep our dirty laundry out of the public eye.

Victor: Son, I know that for your sisters, this is about greed, and for you, it's about helping Sharon and I guess you expect me to ride to her rescue.

Nick: Just admit that you were in Hawaii, and not as much for Sharonís sake as it is for mine. This whole lawsuit is about you learning to be accountable for your actions. When you scheme against people and operate outside of the law--

Michael: Victor, we have to talk about this.

Victor: You want to talk to me about accountability after the havoc you and your sisters have caused? Are you serious? You take your holier-than-thou attitude and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Adam: So there's no jail time for that, either?

(Front door opens)

Adam: Huh no, I never would have guessed, actually. Thanks for your help. It's nice to get confirmation from a lawyer. Yep, well, I owe you one, Buddy. Bye. Well, look who's here.

Sharon: Why are you talking to a lawyer?

Adam: Uh, investment stuff. (Sighs) Language in a prospectus.

Sharon: Okay. Great. Now tell me the truth.

Adam: Why do you say that?

Sharon: Because you have that look in your eye-- that one that you always have when you're up to something.

Adam: Okay, I- went to go see Victor about the video. I didn't want to tell you because I knew you'd be upset.

Sharon: Well, I'm sure it was a colossal waste of time trying to get him to do the right thing.

Adam: I think, uh, I think eventually, he'll come around. That's--that's what I think, at least. I mean, you know him. He's, uh, he'll bark. He'll wail and growl. But eventually, he comes around.

Sharon: Not unless he has to. You know Victor. He never does anything out of the goodness of his heart.

Adam: In your case, I think he might.

Sharon: Why? Did he say something to make you think that? Or... wait a minute. Please tell me that you didnít.

Adam: Didn't what?

Sharon: You didn't make a deal with the devil to get me out of these charges, did you?

Sofia: (Sighs)

Neil: Hey.

Malcolm: Yo, Neil, what's up with you callin' my baby back into the lion's den and then rollin' out, Man?

Sofia: Oh, you didn't want to stick around for the bloodshed?

Neil: Well, no, it--it-- see, of-- no, I-I-I did something on impulse, and I'm--I'm hoping it works out for the best.

Malcolm: Whatever that means.

Tucker: Sofia, let's talk.

Adam: Me do a deal with my father? The guy hates me.

Sharon: Maybe so, but he's not above using you.

Adam: Sharon, this is exactly why I didn't want to say anything. I knew it was gonna upset you, so I just--

Sharon: No, because you knew that ultimately, I would find out what's going on.

Adam: No, that's not it. I--

Sharon: Listen, even if Victor agreed to go to the police and tell them everything, do you really think that he's gonna keep that end of the agreement? I assure you anything he said to you is lies. Now please tell me what you agreed to.

Adam: I won't do anything rash, okay? Does that reassure you?

Sharon: No!

Adam: Well, Sharon, look, I would love to talk to you about this right now. I canít. We'll have to talk about it later. I have to go to a meeting.

Sharon: What? Adam, no. You cannot leave here until we're done.

Adam: Sharon, Baby, I love you, okay? Don't worry.

Abby: Damn paparazzi chased me the whole way here. I cannot wait until this is over.

Victoria: (Sighs) Amen to that.

Abby: Oh, you don't look happy.

Victoria: I just ran into a woman who used to work for me at Newman who's been laid off.

Abby: I bet that was jolly.

Victoria: Yeah, well, when we win, I am gonna make everything right with all of the innocent people that have been hurt in this mess.

Nick: I just came from seeing Dad.

Abby: I-I'm sorry, what?

Victoria: What? Hold on. Why would you put yourself through that?

Nick: Dad's about to get hammered in this ruling. I thought maybe he'd want to settle, make it a little less painful.

Abby: Let me guess, he told you to go to hell.

Nick: Yeah, pretty much.

Abby: (Scoffs)

Victoria: Good. Good. Then you got it out of your system

Nick: Yeah. (Sighs) I tell you, what was interesting, though, was how calm he was. It's almost like he's resigned to his fate.

Victoria: I'm sure it was just an act. Well, I mean, he wouldn't want to seem weak in front of you.

Nick: Maybe. But maybe he still thinks he's got us. But why on earth would he believe that?

Michael: Adam? That's who we're making deals with these days? Have you lost your mind?

Victor: Think about it. Between Sharonís predicament and Adam's new trust, I have enough to keep him in line.

Michael: You do realize this is illegal, not to mention that you've admitted tacitly to culpability in the whole Skye Lockhart affair.

Victor: I've done none of that. But I get the feeling that you perhaps might want to recluse yourself. Is that it?

Michael: No, no, no.

Victor: Mm.

Michael: Why would I want to miss out on all the fun? (Chuckles) But listen, Victor. This forgery scenario-- it will be examined under a microscope.

Victor: So?

Michael: Do you think that your manipulative backstabbing son can be entrusted to see this through? I mean, if this perjury of his does not hold up, then taking Newman public will be the least of your worries, or mine.

Victor: (Sighs) Nothing will happen to you, Michael, okay? Uh, you were not present when I concocted all this. You had no knowledge of it, did you now?

Michael: If you really had wanted me to be able to maintain plausible deniability, you wouldn't have let me know about any of this. You would have just let me be blindsided, like everybody else is gonna be.

Victor: I'll remember that.

Michael: Yeah, well..hmm, well.. (Chuckles) We won't be able to give the judge a heads-up that we're presenting new evidence. Uh, we're just gonna have to spring it on the whole courtroom.

Victor: That's how I intended it--it to play out.

Tucker: Never thought I'd see you sittin' in that chair again. (Sighs)

Sofia: The last time I was here, you threatened to have me arrested.

Tucker: I did, didn't I?

Sofia: So... what's up? Why am I here, Tucker?

Tucker: Neil... just got through tellin' me what a mistake I was makin' not givin' you another chance.

Sofia: Does this mean you're not gonna press charges? I mean, I know you wanted me to get the money back we paid James Collier, but with Cane and Blake both dead--

Tucker: Forget about the charges and the money.

Sofia: Seriously?

Tucker: I'm still not happy about bein' ripped off, so I expect you to make up for it by salvaging the biodiesel project, which, by the way, is in a total shambles.

Sofia: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. Is this a job offer?

Tucker: Oh, don't tell me you're gonna play hard to get.

Sofia: Well, no, it's just completely unexpected

Tucker: Well, you can thank Neil. He made quite a case for hiring you back. Apparently, this place just doesn't run right without you.

Sofia: (Chuckles) Well, I'm sure I'm gonna have my work cut out for me.

Tucker: I'll need this by Monday-- noon at the latest. You think you can handle it?

Sofia: Uh, please. Who do you think you're talkin' to?

Tucker: Well, hop to it then.

Sofia: I missed you, too, Boss.

Judge Phelps: Thank you. Hello, one and all. Thank you for being prompt. I am prepared to rule. My directive as per the disposition of the trusts of Nicholas, Victoria, and Abby Newman will be final and binding, based as it is the complete facts presented by both parties to this lawsuit.

Michael: Your honor, I realize this is an unusual request coming at this late hour in the case, but we have just obtained new and highly relevant information.

Judge Phelps: What kind of information?

Leslie: I'd like to know that, too.

Adam: Adam Newman. I'm a witness.

Sharon: Adam!

Victoria: Uh...

Adam: Sorry I'm late.

Victoria: What is he doing here?

Victor: Your honor, this is my other son Adam. He is the only one of my children who has not turned against me.

Malcolm: (Sighs)

Neil: Hey, Bro, I'm hoping that Tucker will hire her back, but, you know, uh, uh, we know that--

Malcolm: Whatever Tucker decides, Man, I owe you.

Neil: No, Man, you-- you don't owe me a thing.

Malcolm: Yeah, yeah, I do. You were the one that gave me the kick in the head I needed, helped me realize how simpleminded and foolish I was bein'. I think that Sofia and I are finally back on the right track, and I have you to thank for that, Big Bro.

Neil: Well, I'm--that's--that's good, because, you know, what makes you happy makes me happy, too, so... huh?

Malcolm: Look, Man, we've had our differences in the past, you know? But, Neil, you've always taken the high road, Man. And I just want to let you know I'm really grateful for that, Man.

Neil: Um, I got a meeting that I-I have to get to, but I will call you a little bit later, and we'll chop it up, but, uh...

Tucker: Well, good goin', Winters. Your workload's just been cut in half.

Neil: Wow. Good deal.

Malcolm: You got your old job back, Baby?

Sofia: Sure do!

Malcolm: (Laughs) Congratulations!

Sofia: (Chuckles) And, um, Neil, thank you so much for puttin' in a good word for me.

Neil: My pleasure.

Tucker: The man's very convincing when he wants to be.

Neil: Yeah, uh, we both know a good woman when we see one, right, Malcolm?

Malcolm: Yep.

Sofia: (Chuckles)

Sharon: Please, please donít do anything we'll both regret.

Leslie: The judge has already made his ruling.

Michael: Which he has yet to announce.

Leslie: Your honor, this is obviously some last-minute attempt to try and sway your decision.

Judge Phelps: I understand your position, Ms. Michaelson. However, I will listen to what Mr. Newman's son has to say, and then I will decide if it's relevant to this case or my ruling.

Michael: Thank you, Judge. As I was saying when the witness arrived, my client and I just learned today of what transpired over two years ago. Adam Newman has agreed to come here today to reveal his actions to the court

Judge Phelps: Mr. Newman, would you please rise? Raise your right hand. Do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Adam: I do.

Judge Phelps: And please tell me as succinctly as possible what this is all about.

Adam: In 2008, after a personal tragedy, my father left for Mexico. He left me in charge of Newman Enterprises. Long story short, I caught wind that my tenure there would be temporary, and I would no doubt be cast aside again. So I decided to leave, uh, a little mess on my father's hands, create a little anarchy. I meddled with my three siblings' trusts. I revised them, gave them more power. Then I forged all three documents with my father's signature.

Michael: Rendering all of them fraudulent, the very documents on which this case is based.

Victor: Therefore, the case has no merit, your honor.

Leslie: I don't believe a word of this.

Victor: The company that clothed you and fed you l and allowed you to live like royalty for all these years is crippled now because of this action. Hundreds of people will lose their jobs. This company will lose millions of dollars in revenue because of what the three of you are doing now. But it ain't gonna happen, because your case is based on fraud. Your greed and self-righteousness will finally bring you what you all have deserved for a long time-- nothing.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Nick: No matter what happens after this weíre done with you.

Victoria: We all are done.

Jack: We got a big problem, Tucker.

Ashley: Whatís that, Jack?
