Phyllis: Good morning.
Nick: Good morning.
Phyllis: Why didn't you wake me up?
Nick: Well, I, uh...
Phyllis: Thank you.
Nick: What am I, the warden?
Phyllis: (Laughs) you're definitely not the warden. Don't remind me of the warden.
Nick: I just--
Phyllis: I had nightmares of him.
Nick: I just wanted to let you sleep in this morning. Our daughter, too. She's still snoozing. She takes after you.
Phyllis: I know. I saw her. I peeked in. She was doing that little thing with her mouth that she does. It is the little things you take for granted. So... I'm not gonna do that anymore. You can have this.
Nick: Well, I don't want you-- you don't want that? Okay. I don't want you to, uh... take changing diapers for granted, okay? 'Cause that's your gig. You're flying solo on that for the next few months.
Phyllis: Okay, good. I'll take that gig. No problem. I wanna do it. So, um... any--any word from your parents?
Nick: No, not yet.
Phyllis: Well, we should get to the hospital. Right?
Nick: Yes, we should.
Nick: Let me just, uh, get on my computer. I haven't done it in so long. I have no idea what's going on in the world. Huh. Maybe it's best if I kept it that way.
Nick: Nice article about my dad.
Phyllis: What does it say there?
Nick: "Business tycoon, Victor Newman, the man responsible-- well, considered to be responsible for the mining deaths at Clear Springs, now being rumored to be involved in the death of Ji Min Kim." Sweet.
Phyllis: Yeah, your dad does not need this right now with everything he's going through, does he?
Nick: You know, I doubt he's even seen it. He hasn't left the hospital either.
Phyllis: You think you should warn him?
Nick: No. It's not gonna do any good. My parents have bigger problems to deal with right now.
Victor: We have good news, my sweetheart. We're gonna move you back home today. We're gonna set up your old bedroom the way it was. Okay? You're gonna be surrounded by people who love you. The best news of all... is that your mom is gonna move back to the ranch as well. We're both going to take care of you.
Nikki: Well, she's still in the coma, but her condition is stable.
David: Does that mean the crisis is over?
Nikki: For the moment. I can breathe again.
David: Nikki, that's wonderful. What about the baby?
Nikki: He's hanging in there. He's so tiny. You wouldn't believe it.
David: So does that mean that you're gonna be at the hospital all day?
Nikki: Well, actually, I was planning on coming back to the club for a little bit.
David: Good. I was thinking about going over there today, but I didn't want to add to the tension.
Nikki: I appreciate that. If you thought Victor's tolerance was low-- um, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later. That was David. I just needed to tell him what I decided.
David: Hi, this is David Chow. I'd like to schedule a massage and place an order for a breakfast to be delivered to my room afterwards. Oh, and throw in two dozen long stemmed red roses. Yes, it is a special occasion. Thanks.
Jack: We got your call right after we'd packed and were ready to go.
Sharon: Yeah, what's the emergency?
Ben: Ethics committee called. They want you to answer more questions.
Daniel: I thought he was done with that.
Ben: Yeah, so did I.
Sharon: Well, can he decline?
Ben: Theoretically, yes. But then they'll-- they'll either subpoena you or they'll vote to censure.
Jack: So if I refuse to let this continue...
Ben: Pack your things. Your days as senator are over.
Kevin: Hey, Mom.
Gloria: Kevin, you scared me.
Kevin: Have you had a chance to read your online news source this morning?
Gloria: Nope. Haven't had time. Why?
Kevin: Answer-- the state senate ethics committee is calling for more questioning of this state senator. Question--who is Jack Abbott?
Gloria: Yes, yes, yes! That means they didn't like his answers yesterday!
Kevin: Well, whatever it is, that sweet smell in the air might be the beginning of the end for day of the jackal.
Gloria: Thanks to my impassioned testimony.
Kevin: Oh, undoubtedly.
Gloria: But I still have to play this smart, Kevin. I've underestimated him too many times.
Kevin: Let me guess, you need my superior intellect and ruthless cunning?
Gloria: That's right. We got a lot of work to do. Is the hearing going on now?
Kevin: Yeah, I think it is.
Gloria: Well, let's listen. Let's listen. Come on, laptop. Laptop.
Kevin: One order of Jack's humiliation, coming right up.
Phyllis: Hey. Uh, where is everyone?
Nikki: Hi. Brad and J.T. went home to rest. And your father's in there with Victoria.
Nick: Okay. Well, I made all the calls. Everything should be set up when she gets home.
Nikki: I think we made the right choice. It'll be a lot easier for us to take care of her at the ranch.
Nikki: Oh, you don't know? I'm moving back in.
Phyllis: Oh. Um, well, it's--it's good for Victoria to be around everything that's most familiar to her. She'll get better quicker.
Nikki: That's what we're hoping.
Nick: You sure you wanna move back home?
Nikki: My only concern is your sister's health.
Nick: You don't think it'll be a little bit complicated with you and Dad?
Nikki: It doesn't have to be. Look, this is just about Victoria. That's it. Nothing else matters.
Gloria: I'm just kicking myself that I didn't say worse things about Jack at the hearing yesterday.
Kevin: Well, it's probably good that you didn't lay it on thicker. You don't wanna cross over into melodrama.
Gloria: Yeah, you're probably right. Is that thing on yet?
Kevin: Uh, it's just rebooting.
Gloria: Honey, I need a huge favor.
Kevin: How shocking and different.
Gloria: I have left so many calls for John's prison friend.
Kevin: You mean his son?
Gloria: Yeah. And I don't understand why he's not calling me back. He seemed like he wanted to help me.
Kevin: What does this have to do with nailing Jack?
Gloria: I have to know if he found John's letter "To my beloved Gloria." And I need to read it.
Kevin: You will.
Gloria: What if he's hiding from me?
Kevin: Mom, you're being paranoid.
Gloria: Okay, maybe I am. And that's the favor. You try to find him.
Kevin: Fine. Say I do and I get the letter, what are you gonna do for me?
Gloria: I've already done so much, Honey. I gave you life.
Kevin: Oh. (Scoffs) you used that one a long time ago. If I do this, you will owe me, and I will come collecting when you least expect it. Here we go.
Tommy: This hearing is now in session. Counsel?
Cynthia: Are you prepared to answer further questions, Mr. Abbott?
Jack: Yes, I am. Although, I thought that I--
Ben: Senator Abbott is ready and eager to cooperate.
John: Now don't blow it, Son.
Cynthia: The committee would like you to clarify some of your answers in light of other testimony we have heard.
Ben: Gloria and Jill, of course.
Jack: You don't have to stay here for this. Why don't you go home?
Sharon: Jack, I'm not leaving. For better or for worse, remember?
John: Oh, you are a lucky man, Jack. Most wives-- they would've been out the door by now.
Cynthia: Mr. Abbott?
Cynthia: Yes or no? Were you aware that you were breaking the law when you bought and sold Jabot Cosmetics?
John: They want the truth, Jack.
Ben: Senator Abbott answered that question earlier, Counsel.
Cynthia: We'd like to hear his answer again.
Jack: I admitted that yesterday, and I take full responsibility for my actions.
Cynthia: Yes or no. Did you try in any way-- in person, in writing, or by an associate-- to dissuade the district attorney from indicting you for fraud?
Jack: No, I did not.
John: Oh, Jackie, I don't think they're gonna believe you.
Jack: Would you back off?
Cynthia: I beg your pardon?
Jack: I'm sorry, I was-- I was just thinking out loud.
Cynthia: Do you understand the question?
Jack: Yes, I understand the question. I have already answered the question. My answer is no. An unequivocal no. Mr. Chairman, I-- with all due respect, I think we covered this ground already.
Ben: I agree wholeheartedly. Why repeat the exercise?
Tommy: Mr. Abbott, Mr. Hollander, we're going to take a brief recess so you can consider your answer to that question.
Cynthia: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. When we return, Senator, we will continue the discussion. In detail. About Clear Springs, and about your relationship with Ji Min Kim.
John: Well, Jackie, I would take a deep breath. Because I think you're in for a very rough morning.
Nick: So I heard you're getting sprung today. I know if you could talk, you'd never let 'em take you away from your son. I don't want you to worry about that, all right? 'Cause J.T. and Phyllis, Brad and I-- we'll all take turns watching over the little guy. You just concentrate on getting better. And you know, if Mom or Dad are hovering too much, just wake up and give 'em hell. Okay?
Nick: Uh-oh. Nurse Ratchet's here. I'll see you at home, Sis.
Victor: Son? How is she?
Nick: She's the same. The nurse is checking her vitals.
Victor: Have you talked to your mother?
Nick: Yeah, she filled me in on what's going on. You sure that's a good idea?
Victor: She and I have talked about it. We agreed.
Nick: Yeah, well, Dad, you two aren't exactly on the best of terms. Now Mom's gonna move in and you're just gonna pretend everything's cool?
Victor: We'll be all right.
Nick: You say that now, but something else could come up. What if it's a problem?
Victor: We'll deal with it. We both wanna take care of your sister. That's more important than any differences that she and I might have.
Nikki: I can't thank you enough for the excellent care you've given my daughter.
Phyllis: I admire everything you're doing.
Nikki: Well, thank you.
Phyllis: Yeah, I was telling Nick last night... you know, I-I can't believe what you two are going through. I mean, I would be out of my mind.
Nikki: Well, you just do what you have to do, without really thinking about it.
Phyllis: And you're moving back to the ranch?
Nikki: Another thing I'm not really thinking about.
Phyllis: Well, I-I know what you're giving up for it.
Nikki: I-I'm not giving up anything. It will give me a chance to spend more time with Victoria.
Phyllis: No, I-- what I'm trying to say is, I know how difficult it is being apart from someone you really love.
Nikki: I can't really worry about that right now.
Phyllis: You can't stop worrying about it. You can't turn your feelings off and on. No one can.
Nikki: I-I don't have a choice, so... David's just gonna have to understand.
(Cell phone ringing)
Phyllis: It's my son.
Nikki: Look, if anybody needs me, I'm at the Athletic Club, packing.
Phyllis: Okay. Hey, Sweetie. Aren't you supposed to be on a plane right now?
Daniel: Uh, yeah, well, that was before the committee decided to grill Jack some more.
Phyllis: How-- how's that going? What--what happened?
Daniel: Gloria and Jill testified, riled things up.
Phyllis: Why does that not surprise me?
Daniel: Yeah, so, what's new in G.C.?
Phyllis: There's some whispers here that Victor may have been involved in Ji Min's death.
Daniel: Yeah, I heard something about that.
Phyllis: Well, won't that help Jack with the committee?
Daniel: I don't think so. People think that he might be using his influence to steer the homicide investigation away from himself.
Phyllis: How's he doing?
Daniel: Well, he's kept his cool so far. I just hope that he can hold it together for round two.
Phyllis: Tell him I'm thinking about him.
Daniel: I-I will. Listen, um, I gotta go. It looks like they're getting ready to reconvene.
Phyllis: Call me. Call me when you have a chance, all right?
Nick: Who was that?
Phyllis: That was Daniel. Um... I think I-I need to go to Madison. I-I think I need to go there to help Jack. I mean, if you don't want me to go, I won't. It--it's not a big deal. I just, you know, I figure everything was sort of, you know, it calmed down here. Summer's at the sitter's and your sister's in transit. And the reason why I wanna go is because he was so supportive of me when I was in jail.
Phyllis: And--and during the trial.
Nick: You don't have to explain. Honestly, it's cool.
Nick: Yeah. I'm gonna stay here and make sure everything goes smoothly with Victoria's homecoming.
Phyllis: Okay. You're a very supportive husband.
Nick: Well, the guy did lift a huge piece of concrete off me and save my life.
Nick: I kinda owe him one.
Phyllis: You kinda do.
Nick: And from what it sounds like, he could probably use another friendly face in his corner.
Cynthia: And you still maintain, Senator, that your only connection to Clear Springs was your planned casino?
Jack: That's right. And those plans are now in limbo, thanks to this disaster.
Cynthia: Then suppose we turn to the untimely death of Ji Min Kim.
Jack: Yes, my former partner.
Cynthia: And front man for your illegal purchase and subsequent sale of Jabot.
Jack: Fine. Call it what you like.
Cynthia: No, Senator, you call it what you'd like. You admitted earlier that the acquisition was fraudulent.
Jack: I stand by my testimony. I testified that in an effort to save my father's company I overreached. But Ji Min Kim was my friend.
Cynthia: You had nothing to do with his death?
Jack: Absolutely not. The timing was unfortunate.
Cynthia: "Unfortunate?" I find that an interesting choice of words. Because he was about to do an interview that could compromise you and your career.
Ben: Excuse me, Counsel? May I have a moment with the senator?
Cynthia: Go ahead, Mr. Hollander.
Ben: Thank you. Sharon? I think this would be a perfect time for you to slip Victor's name into the conversation.
Sharon: Really? Do you really have to? You've already given the tape to the police.
Cynthia: Was Mr. Kim aware of your fraudulent intentions before he joined forces with you?
Jack: I would rather not speak ill of the dead, Counselor.
Cynthia: Let me rephrase. When did you tell him the truth?
Jack: I'm sorry. I don't recall.
Cynthia: You don't recall? What was his reaction when he did learn of the fraud?
Jack: I don't remember his exact words.
Cynthia: To your knowledge, did Mr. Kim consult with law enforcement about your illegal purchase and ownership of Jabot?
Jack: I can't really speak for Mr. Kim's actions.
Cynthia: One final question. We heard an audio tape yesterday. That was Mr. Hollander on that tape, talking to a law enforcement officer about this investigation. Was it not?
Jack: Yes, that's correct.
Cynthia: Could we reasonably presume there was more to that conversation than was on that tape?
Jack: I wouldn't speculate that way.
Cynthia: Why am I not surprised? Are there more questions from the panel? You're excused, Mr. Abbott, though we reserve the right to recall you if necessary.
Jack: Mr. Chairman, if I may, as the focus of this hearing and one of its witnesses, do I have the right to address this committee?
Tommy: Is it relevant to this investigation?
Jack: Nothing could be more relevant.
Tommy: Any objections? Fine, we'll reconvene in ten minutes.
Jack: Thank you, Chairman, for the opportunity to be heard.
(Knock on door)
David: It's a good thing I work fast.
Nikki: (Laughs) I haven't seen you in so long.
David: Yeah, no kidding.
David: That's right. Last I checked, you still loved red roses.
Nikki: I do, but I can't stay very long.
David: No problem. I'll wrap them up and you can take them with you.
Nikki: Oh, David.
David: All right, listen to me, I know you hate to stay away from the hospital for very long, but there are other people there who can take care of Victoria and the baby for a little while. You need to relax, Nikki. Unwind a little bit.
Nikki: I really shouldn't.
David: Yes, you should. You've been living off of caffeine and adrenaline for days now. You're gonna make yourself sick.
Nikki: No, I-I don't have time to be sick. I have so much to do.
David: And all of it can wait for an hour or two. Now look, I've booked you a massage, then afterwards, you're gonna come up here and have some breakfast with a pot of herbal tea.
Nikki: You--you didn't have to do that.
David: Yeah, well, somebody needed to. Now I know you think you're superwoman, that you can be strong for everybody else, but now it's time for someone to take care of you.
Nikki: Well, it does sound awfully nice.
David: Yes, it does. So why don't you focus on something else, okay? And let the masseuse do her job. And afterwards, you'll come up here and you'll have some real food. Let your body know that you still care about it.
Nikki: Real food. I've been living off a vending machine. Oh, that sounds awful out loud, doesn't it?
David: Well, you just didn't wanna stay away from your daughter long enough to have some real food. There's nothing wrong with that. For a day or two.
Nikki: I know, I know, I know, okay?
David: And I'll be here, okay? So if you wanna talk, that's great. But if you wanna just sit and eat and not say a word, that's fine, too. But I have to warn you, I might stare at you for a little bit. It's been quite a while since I've seen you.
Nikki: You are something else. Thank you so much.
Nikki: For everything. Of covering this and I couldn't have asked for any more.
Gloria: Why haven't you been answering your phone?
Kevin: Uh, because I've been on it, making calls for you.
Gloria: Please, please tell me you found him.
Kevin: Mom, Todd Scheller is missing in action.
Kevin: What's the latest on the hearing?
Gloria: Oh, well, it would be great, but they've decided to give Jack another chance to make another statement.
Kevin: No way!
Gloria: They're on a recess right now,
Kevin: Did he sound nervous?
Gloria: Yeah, well, they're grilling him about Ji Min's death and whether he knew about the fraud or not and he's playing dumb, but I think they're getting wise to his little game.
Kevin: Did Sharon make a statement?
Gloria: Yeah, she's making a statement-- standing by her man. She believes in him. She is so snowed by him.
Kevin: Well, you gotta feel for her a little.
Gloria: I do feel for her.
Kevin: Although she's gotta be kinda naive to stand by Jack after everything he's done, huh?
Gloria: I know. I don't get it. I don't get it. She seems so nice. Why would she stay with someone who's so evil?
Kevin: You know what, Mom? If I could figure out what attracted people to one another, I'd write a book, sell it online, and make a lot of money. But in the meantime, don't drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out.
Gloria: Tell me about it.
Kevin: Let her do what she wants. If she falls into a trap, she'll figure a way out.
Nick: Looks like Miguel's been busy.
Victor: Yeah, he changed three rooms. Put on fresh linens and aired out.
Victor: Your mother, Victoria and the nurse.
Nick: So you found someone then?
Victor: Yeah. I interviewed quite a few of them. It's the only one who referred to Victoria as "Victoria" and not as a patient or a client.
Nick: I like that. Sounds like a keeper.
Victor: That may be her.
Victor: Hello, Gabby, please come in.
Victor: Through there.
Gabby: Thank you.
Victor: May I introduce you to my son, Nicholas.
Nick: Hi. Very nice to meet you. Thank you for coming.
Gabby: Is Victoria still in the hospital?
Gabby: I'd like to see her room before she arrives.
Victor: Of course you can. And if you need anything, please don't hesitate to call me, all right?
Gabby: Well, after I see her room, I may need supplies.
Nick: I tell you what, I'll, uh, I'll show you where Victoria's staying.
Gabby: Excellent. Thank you.
David: Oh, there she is. How was your massage?
Nikki: Oh, my God. It was heavenly and wonderful in every way. I feel like a new person.
David: Well, you look like one, too. You're glowing.
Nikki: You were right. I really needed to take that time. I'm a different person than I was an hour ago.
David: You see that? You always trust your ex-campaign manager. They'll never steer you wrong.
Nikki: That's right. Thank you for knowing what I needed then and now.
David: Speaking of which, I ordered you everything you like. Some eggs benedict, wheat toast and fresh fruit.
Nikki: Uh, I don't know if I can eat anything right now.
David: Nikki, come on. You need this. Your body will thank me for it. Have you ever seen the ingredients listed for those peanut butter crackers in the vending machines? The first ten listed are nothing but chemicals.
Nikki: I know. I know. Look, enough about me. How have you been?
Nikki: I'm so sorry everything got dumped in your lap.
David: Oh, don't even give it a second thought. I can handle N.V.P., okay? Everything's under control.
Nikki: What would I have done without you? It's unbelievable.
David: Well, for starters, you'd be malnourished with a stiff back.
Nikki: Oh, my gosh. I-I haven't even giggled in days.
David: I missed that. And you. And I'm not saying that to make you feel guilty.
Nikki: I know. I've missed you, too. You know, I... I need to tell you something and I-I don't know how to say it, so I'm just gonna say it.
Nikki: Um... Victoria's gonna be moved to the ranch today.
David: That's wonderful, isn't it?
Nikki: Yeah, but I'm gonna move back there, too.
David: What? But I thought that--
Nikki: No, look, look, this has nothing to do with you, nothing to do with Victor. It--it's all about Victoria. I just need to be with her.
David: There has to be another way.
Nikki: Well, we talked about putting Victoria in a long-term care facility, but I don't feel comfortable with that. I feel like we would be abandoning her to strangers.
David: No, of course, of course. I understand that, but...
Nikki: Well, that's the best option for her.
David: Really? What about renting an apartment or buying a condo or something? You could spend as much time as you wanted with her, without any of the inconvenience.
Nikki: No, no, no, it's not the same. I mean, she needs to be at home in her own room, with her own things. Her father, her brother, Phyllis--they're already there.
David: All right. Then you can spend your days there at the ranch and your evenings here with me.
Nikki: David, she needs 'round the clock care. I need to be there full-time.
David: For how long?
Nikki: I don't know. Until she's conscious. Until she's healthy.
David: So... you're not just moving in with Victoria, you're moving back in with Victor.
Nikki: No, not-- not the way that sounds. It's--it's just-- it's too much work for one person to do.
David: Well, I certainly won't be able to see you there.
Nikki: David, please try to understand this.
David: Am I gonna be able to see you at all? Are you planning on leaving the ranch at any point?
Nikki: I don't know. I-I can't think right now.
David: So what does this mean for us?
Nikki: I... I-I guess... oh, this is terrible. I-I have to say that right now, I guess it means there is no us.
Nick: Relax, Dad. Mom's gonna be here soon.
Victor: What makes you think I'm thinking about your mother?
Nick: Well, we both know Victoria's not coming home for awhile. And I saw the magazines and flowers you put in Mom's room. And let's not forget all the groceries you got. They just happen to be Mom's favorites.
Victor: I'm just trying to put her at ease, you know? It's gonna be strange for her to come back here.
Nick: So that's the story you're going with, huh?
Victor: I'm just trying to make her feel comfortable, that's all.
Nikki: I'm sorry about breakfast, but I have to go.
David: Nikki, wait a minute. Don't you think we should at least talk about this?
Nikki: No. There's--there's nothing more to talk about. Um, don't make this any worse than it is, okay? Good-bye, David.
Daniel: I can't believe the committee keeps trying to put you on the defensive. What's up with that?
Jack: You know what? They're doing their job. And I'm gonna do mine and go with a pre-emptive strike.
John: Now that's my boy.
Ben: You know, an apology is a great idea. Why don't I jot down a few specifics?
Jack: No, no, no, this time I'm gonna talk from the heart.
John: This time I hope you mean it.
Ben: Okay, but don't be specific. Uh, be, uh, honest and sincere.
Jack: Yeah, yeah, make 'em cry.
Ben: If you could do that, that--that would really help salvage your reputation.
John: Jack, listen to these people.
Ben: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, what are you doing here?
Phyllis: Well, I'm here to support Jack.
Ben: Yeah, well, the last thing he needs right now is support from someone who just got out of prison.
Jack: Hey, hey, excuse me, what's going on?
Ben: She's here to lend her support.
Jack: What's wrong with that?
Ben: If I have to explain it to you, Senator, you don't belong in politics.
Jack: I'm glad you're here.
Ben: Okay, Daniel, would you please escort your mother outside?
Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah.
Daniel: Come on, Mom, let's go.
Phyllis: Good luck.
Jack: Thanks. I'll need it.
Sharon: Are you okay?
John: Remember what you said earlier. Say it from your heart.
Jack: Everything's better than okay. Let's do this thing.
Victor: Let me take these from you.
Nikki: Thank you.
Victor: I know this isn't easy for you, but you belong here now.
Nikki: Where's Nicholas?
Victor: He's preparing some last minute things in Victoria's room.
Nikki: Have you heard from the hospital?
Victor: Yeah. The ambulance in on its way. Victoria should be here any minute now.
Nikki: We made the right choice, bringing her here.
Victor: I know. We'll take good care of her. I'm glad you came home. Even if it's only temporary.
Nikki: Me, too.
Victor: Was everything all right on the transport over here?
Man: Very well, Mr. Newman.
Nikki: Um, everything was all right with her blood pressure?
Man: No, it was a smooth, easy transport.
Victor: Well, thank you very much. All right, we appreciate it. Thank you.
Nick: Thanks. Appreciate it.
Victor: Um... would you mind looking after your sister for a moment?
Nick: Yeah, no problem.
Victor: Thank you.
Nikki: I'll be up in a minute.
Victor: You okay?
Nikki: Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay. Just, um... a lot to process.
Victor: Yeah. Been awhile since the three of us have been under one roof.
David: Nikki, hi, it's me, David. Look... I know your main concern is helping your daughter get better, and I fully support and understand that. She is very lucky to have you for a mother. But... this whole idea of us not seeing each other... that's crazy. I mean, even if we have to see each other in the middle of the night, or you can only manage an hour a week, that's fine with me. Hey, I'll take whatever I can get. But... if you're honest with yourself, Nikki... you'll realized that you need me just as much as I need you.
Nick: Newman residence. Yeah, hang on.
Victor: Yes? I beg your pardon? I'm not going to comment on a story that has no basis in reality, you got that? And don't you ever call here again!
Nick: What were they asking you?
Victor: About Ji Min Kim's death. Speculation I had something to do with it.
Nick: Yeah, I've heard that rumor, too.
Victor: Why didn't you tell me about it?
Nick: It's so ridiculous, it wasn't worth mentioning.
Victor: Well, you know who had something to do with it, don't you?
Nick: I'm gonna say Jack Abbott?
Victor: You bet. That man is not only in trouble with the police, but also with the ethics committee. He's trying to shift the blame to me, so then the public thinks he's innocent.
Jack: Mr. Chairman, Counsel, distinguished Senators, standing before you today admitting my mistakes has been a humbling experience. Well, no, I'll say a humiliating experience. Although my plan to purchase Jabot was born of a desire to save my father's company. To protect his legacy, I made some serious errors in executing that plan. And I am deeply sorry to the people I hurt and wronged. I let down my family, my friends, and most of all, the people of the state of Wisconsin who elected me to the senate. That is a burden I have to bear, because I have no one to blame but myself. No excuse for my behavior. What is left is convincing you that I have learned, and learned the hard way. I honestly believe that what I have learned will make me a better senator. And by being a better senator, by better serving my constituents, I can perhaps... right these wrongs. That will be up to you. I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. I am sorry. And I thank you for your time.
Kevin: That was good. I gotta give it to him.
Gloria: Good? Good? You call that a heartfelt apology? Are you kidding? How can they not see right through him? If he gets away with this, without being punished--
