Judge Chong: Has the jury reached a verdict?

Woman: We have, your honor.

Judge Chong: In the matter of the state of Wisconsin vs. Phyllis Newman, on the charge of extortion, how do you find?

Woman: We the jury in the aforementioned matter find Phyllis Newman guilty on the charge of extortion.

Michael: (Whispering) breathe. Breathe.

Lauren: Maybe the judge will give her probation.

Michael: Sit down, sit down. Come on, sit with me. Come on. (Indistinct murmuring)

Michael: (Normal voice) your honor, I motion to have the jury polled.

Judge Chong: Juror one, was this then, and is this now, your verdict?

Woman: Yes.

Judge Chong: Juror two, was this now, and was this then, your verdict?

Man: Yes.

Woman: Coming to you live from outside the Genoa City Courthouse with breaking news--the jury in the Phyllis Newman trial has just returned with a guilty verdict. Earlier today it was believed that the jury was unable to reach a consensus when one of the jurors had an eleventh hour change of heart. Judge Chong sent the jury back to deliberate. If you are just tuning in, Phyllis Newman has been found guilty.

Judge Chong: The jury has found you guilty of extortion. The court clerk will inform you of your sentencing date this afternoon.

Michael: Your honor, I request that Mrs. Newman remain free on bail prior to sentencing.

Heather: Your honor, the state requests that Phyllis Newman be remanded into immediate custody.

Judge Chong: Before we discuss bail, I'd like to thank the jury for their time and effort. The importance of citizen participation in the judicial process guarantees a fair trial. Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you again. You're dismissed.

Judge Chong: Counselors, I'll hear your arguments regarding bail.

Michael: Your honor, my client should not be separated from her infant child.

Heather: Ms. Newman should be remanded into custody as befits someone who's been convicted of a serious crime.

Michael: We'll be filing an appeal.

Heather: Your honor, she is a flight risk.

Michael: She has no history to suggest that.

Heather: She has access to large funds, which gives her access to private transportation.

Michael: Access to funds does not automatically qualify her as a flight risk! She has significant ties to the community. She has a husband and two children. She's not about to abandon her family, and she's not gonna leave the country with them.

Heather: Her son is currently out on bail facing charges of his own.

Michael: Are you really suggesting that a mother and son are about to skip bail together?

Heather: It is a possibility, yes.

Michael: Your honor, my client would never risk forfeiting bail, nor would she risk being charged with another crime, and most importantly, she would never risk her son's future.

Judge Chong: All right. We'll take a brief recess, and I'll render a decision.

Lauren: I can't believe it. I can't believe it.

Phyllis: I'm an idiot. I should have taken the deal. I'm an idiot.

Michael: Mom, you went with your gut. No deal means you still might not do any jail time. Okay? You might not go to jail. Just let Michael do this. Come here.

Sharon: Jack, are you okay?

Jack: I never thought they'd find her guilty.

Phyllis: Oh, gosh. I can't go to prison. Maybe we can write a note to the judge or something. But I have to be with you and Summer. (Crying) I can't go. I can't go!

Daniel: You know, if, uh, if Paris could survive, I think you could survive, Mom.

Lily: I tried to call.

Neil: Yeah, my phone was ringin' off the hook. I finally shut it off.

Lily: How do you feel?

Neil: You sound like the press.

Devon: How do you think he feels? Phyllis is going down, and everyone will remember her as the woman who was found guilty and thrown into jail.

Lily: Well, if they put her in jail.

Devon: Oh, there's no doubt they'll put her in jail. I'm just thinking maybe if they could even charge her for what happened to Mom, tack on a few more years, you know?

Neil: Ah, my son, that's highly doubtful.

Lily: Yeah, but what's the point in bringing all of that up again?

Devon: Justice is the point.

Lily: Well, won't she appeal?

Neil: Yeah, well, Michael's probably working on that as we speak.

Devon: You know what? Whatever. It doesn't even matter. She's guilty. Aren't you happy?

Lily: Sort of. I was... I thought I'd be happier.

Devon: I'd say I'd like to visit Phyllis in prison.

Lily: Why?

Devon: Well, wouldn't we all like to see the woman who's responsible for what happened to Dru behind bars? I tell you, that's an image I'd like to remember forever.

Nikki: Congratulations.

Brad: Was it worth everything we sacrificed?

Nikki: We didn't do anything. Phyllis is getting what she deserves.

Brad: Yeah, at what cost? My career, my marriage... if you hadn't put me in the position where I had to file the complaint against Phyllis--

Nikki: Hold on. If you hadn't have been unfaithful to my daughter--

Brad: I might still be married.

Nikki: That marriage was never gonna last anyway.

Brad: You know what, Nikki? You and your preconceived notions aren't always right.

Nikki: Brad, if it hadn't have been this, it would have been something else. We did the right thing. Phyllis is an extortionist, and she's gotta pay the price for that.

Judge Chong: The state has brought up several good points. But... I see no history to support the idea that Mrs. Newman is a flight risk. Therefore my ruling is that she can remain free on bail upon the following conditions. You will turn in your passport. You must stay within the jurisdiction, and you will check daily with your parole officer. The P.O. will conduct a home interview and submit a written report which will be taken into account upon your sentencing. Is that clear, Mrs. Newman?

Phyllis: Yes, it is. Thank you, your honor.

Judge Chong: Failure to meet these conditions, any misconduct or concealment of your whereabouts, can and will affect your sentencing and will result in a warrant for your arrest. Understood?

Phyllis: Yes, Sir.

Judge Chong: Court dismissed.

Phyllis: Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Michael: You heard the man. You check in every day.

Phyllis: Right. Scout's honor.

Michael: You were never a scout. Don't mess this up, or no one will be able to save you.

Jack: I cannot believe they found you guilty.

Phyllis: Well, I bet your wife can. She certainly helped.

Jack: This has been difficult for everyone.

Phyllis: I highly doubt that.

Lauren: All right, at least you're out on bail.

Phyllis: I need to see my daughter. I need to see my daughter.

Nick: Let's go. I'll take you home.

Nick: Yeah, I know, Mom. I'm gonna call Dad right now.

Michael: Once I get the transcripts, I'll go over them with a fine-tooth comb. There are, uh, several possibilities for appeal, starting with the Granville Global tape.

Phyllis: Yeah, sounds good.

Daniel: Michael?

Michael: Yes?

Daniel: What are Mom's chances?

Michael: We have strong grounds to file. Uh, I'll know better once I look at the transcripts. Phyllis, I'm gonna do everything I can, everything possible, to get this verdict overturned.

Phyllis: I know you will.

Nick: Sharon, wait.

Jack: I thought I was prepared. I still cannot believe that verdict.

Nick: Sharon, I, uh... I wanted to talk to you about Noah.

Sharon: Oh, yeah. He's on an overnight with Sam.

Nick: Yeah, he told me.

Sharon: Won't be back till tomorrow.

Nick: What if he hears about the verdict on the radio?

Sharon: Sam's step dad said that he would keep the radio off, so they're watching DVDs in the car.

Nick: Yeah, but he could walk into a store or see a paper or something.

Sharon: Yeah, yeah, that could happen, but he's not a little boy anymore.

Nick: You're right. He's double digits. I keep forgetting. Well, I want to be with you when you decide to tell him about this.

Sharon: Okay, we'll tell him together.

Jack: He's gonna be upset.

Nick: All the more reason to do it together.

Sharon: Well, I'll call you the minute he comes home.

Phyllis: I can't wait to pick up Summer from daycare. I just can't wait to hold her in my arms.

Michael: All right, uh, we'll see you later.

Phyllis: Okay.

Michael: And remember...

Phyllis: Yeah, check in. I know, I will.

Lauren: All right. And if you need anything, you're gonna call, right? See you soon.

Phyllis: I really wanted you to come home with us. I want us all to be together tonight.

Daniel: Yeah, I'll be there.

Phyllis: Okay. Good. I must be the biggest disappointment to you. Hey, you know, at least I'm consistent, right?

Daniel: I was kind of thinking the same thing about myself. I mean, come on, with a murder charge and everything.

Phyllis: Hey, it's not your fault. Genetics.

Daniel: Well, I know how much you love court, so I am gonna save you a seat, front and center.

Phyllis: I will be there, I promise. I will be there.

Devon: "An argument between N.V.P. Spokesmodel Sharon Abbott and Phyllis Newman at a cliffside photo shoot led to the accidental death of Newman executive Drucilla winters. Mrs. Winters' body was never recovered in the search and recovery operation. Phyllis Newman was recently charged with extortion and is currently out on bail pending appeal."

Lily: How can they let her out on bail?

Devon: I don't know. The woman is guilty, and she should be locked up.

Neil: Well, she has the right to an appeal with the system. Although I'd like to be the one to lock her in prison and throw away the key, let me tell you.

Devon: I know about the system. It's "She with the cash goes free."

Lily: If Phyllis is out on appeal, then you could run into her at work.

Neil: Oh, I'm not responsible for my actions, am I?

Lily: You know, maybe you should take some time off or something.

Devon: And let her win? Come on, Dad. I think you should tell her exactly how you feel the next time you see her. What is the maximum you can get for blackmail?

Neil: I believe its six years.

Devon: That isn't even close to enough for all the people she's hurt. There's got to be a way that she is charged with mom's death.

Neil: Oh, Son, if I thought there was a way, then I'd pursue it, believe me.

Lily: Listen, I was there when Mom fell. Phyllis will never be convicted of her death.

Devon: Isn't it worth a try, though? I mean, you said you wanted to choke the life out of her a while ago.

Neil: Well, now it's time for our family to put it behind us, all right? This may be the closest that we'll ever come to seeing justice.

Devon: And we should just forget about it? No way!

Neil: I don't mean that we should forget your mother. We will never forget her. I'm saying that we start over right now as a family.

Lily: This has been the worst year of my life.

Neil: Well, hey, Babe, so start a new year today.

Devon: Just like that, it's a new year?

Lily: No, Dad, you're right. I mean, it doesn't have to be January 1st. It...

Neil: You know, it, uh...

Lily: It could be today.

Neil: Absolutely right. They have a, uh, a Chinese new year. There's a Jewish new year. I say we make today the official Winters' new year. Hmm?

Victor: Have you heard?

Nikki: What, that Phyllis got what she deserved?

Victor: Does your family deserve to get hurt because of your spite?

Nikki: Spite? That woman blackmailed Brad to keep me off the board.

Victor: I knew it was about you... your damned insistence on keeping these termite-ridden buildings in Clear Springs.

Nikki: Please, you are the one who divided this family over the project.

Victor: You are the one who told Brad Carlton to go to the police. I did not do that.

Nikki: None of this would have happened if you had backed me for the board vote.

Victor: Backed you for the board vote?

Nikki: Yes.

Victor: Uh-huh. You're jeopardizing everything-- your family, your dignity-- for the damn board vote.

Nikki: Oh, please, don't start with me on that. You have put work above your family for years.

Victor: Do you know what you did? You put your grandchild's mother in jail.

Nikki: I did nothing of the kind.

Victor: You certainly did.

Nikki: I am not responsible for that woman's actions.

Victor: You are responsible for that. You are indeed responsible for that.

Phyllis: Home, home. Let's go home.

Nick: Yeah, let's do it.

Jack: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. There's a whole crowd of press right outside the front door.

Sharon: Yeah, but the guard said that you could go out the back.

Phyllis: No! If they want a show, let's give it to 'em.

Daniel: Oh, okay. No, that's a bad idea.

Nick: Let's go out the back.

Phyllis: Well, they're gonna keep on hounding me. They wanna see me remorseful and beaten.

Jack: But that's not gonna happen. You don't have to put on a show for anybody. You'll be happier going out the back door.

Sharon: Yeah, you're gonna need security if you go out the front, so why don't you just go out the back?

Phyllis: Yeah, you must be in a big hurry to go home and gloat, right? I mean, you did your job.

Sharon: My job? And what was that, Phyllis, telling the truth?

Nick: Okay, Ladies.

Phyllis: Oh, you would have given your left arm to see me convicted, Sharon, come on.

Jack: Okay, let's go.

Sharon: Are you completely deluded? I wanted nothing to do with this.

Phyllis: Your testimony paid off. Good for you! I bet you're thrilled.

Jack: Okay, we're leaving now. Let's go.

Sharon: You know what? I am thrilled. You know what I'm happy about? Is that you got exactly what you deserve, finally.

Nick: This isn't a good place for this. Let's go home.

Sharon: The only thing is, they should have dragged you out in handcuffs for dramatic effect.

Phyllis: Oh, you would've loved that, wouldn't you?

Sharon: I really would've.

Jack: Let's--

Sharon: Hold on, Jack, no! I made one mistake one night, and you made sure that I was mortified, having to talk about that over and over again.

Nick: All right, enough.

Daniel: Can we not fight in the courthouse?

Phyllis: And you just loved to stand there and testify against me, didn't you?

Sharon: Oh, yeah, because I spend all of my spare time thinking, how can I make sure that Phyllis spends her entire daughter's childhood in prison? That's what I do with my time.

Phyllis: I have two children. I have two children, and they need me right now. I can't discuss it with you anymore.

Sharon: You should've thought about that a long time ago instead of putting your own narcissistic self first, which is what you always do, and then none of this would've happened.

Nick: Sharon, please. Please, that's enough.

Jack: Let's go.

Devon: Lily, you have gotta come and see this.

Neil: Hey, Man, she's gonna kill us. She's gonna kill us.

Devon: I know.

Lily: What? My baby video? No, thank you.

Neil: Look at you--that baby fat, those chubby legs.

Devon: Mm, mm!

Lily: No, we are not starting the New Year watching the chub rub that kept me from walking straight.

Neil: I was just about to get some popcorn.

Devon: It's funny, though. You toppled over so easy.

Lily: You guys, check all this stuff out. Mom saved all of this.

Devon: (Blows horn) (laughs)

Lily: Okay, you're definitely born on this earth to annoy me.

Devon: (Laughs) I'm just gettin' started.

Lily: Oh, gosh.

Neil: (Chuckles) let me see those. Oh, yeah. Hey, let's put these up. You know, um, remember last year, New Year’s Eve?

Lily: Yeah, we were at Indigo.

Neil: Yeah, we were. We were at Indigo, and I couldn't get your mother off the dance floor.

Lily: I know. She said that her feet were killing her.

Devon: I remember she took her shoes off, and she lost them.

Lily: Yeah. Those were her favorite. Remember how she wanted to pat everyone down as they left?

Devon: And then she, uh, started to get all philosophical about it... talking about how certain things come into your life, but they're not always meant to stay.

Lily: Yep, but she made peace with it.

Neil: Yeah, she did. Remember what else she said? "Some things, some people come into your life. No matter where you go, they'll always be with you."

Lily: Yeah... like Mom is with us.

Devon: Hey, Mom, you hear the news? Phyllis is guilty. Happy New Year.

Gina: I just heard about your mom.

Daniel: Oh.

Gina: How is she?

Daniel: Horrible. Why does she have to get convicted? It's just not fair, you know?

Gina: Oh, Sweetie, I'm so sorry.

Daniel: I know.

Gina: I'm so sorry, Honey.

Daniel: Well, I had to sit there, and I had to listen to all the bad stuff they wanted to say about her, and I couldn't even fight back.

Gina: Well, you're lucky. You got an old aunt you can tell everything to. Please, I want you to talk to me. Just open up and tell me what you're thinking about. What's on your mind?

Daniel: Ah, I don't know. You know, the prosecutor lady, she tore her apart. They made her look like some kind of monster.

Gina: Well, that's her job. The main thing is, is how did Phyllis handle it?

Daniel: Well, she didn't freak out in court, if that's what you mean. She put on, you know, that tough routine. Everyone knows that's just a show.

Gina: Trust me, Daniel, your mother is really tough.

Daniel: Yeah.

Gina: Was Nicholas there?

Daniel: Oh, yes, Nicholas was there, trying his best to be supportive, but we could all see, you know...

Gina: It was that obvious?

Daniel: Oh, it showed.

Gina: Well, maybe he just needs, uh, a little more time to adjust.

Daniel: Maybe I just need them to drop the charges against me.

Jack: Phyllis shouldn't have gone after you like that.

Sharon: But?

Jack: But she's under a lot of pressure, and she shouldn't be going to prison.

Sharon: She committed a crime.

Jack: Yes, she committed a crime. So she pays a fine, or she does community service. This conviction is gonna be on her record for the rest of her life, and Summer and Daniel need their mother. She should not be taken away from them.

Sharon: Okay, so-- so what you're saying to me is, when somebody commits murder but they have children, we should not lock them up?

Jack: She did not commit murder, and her children need her right now.

Sharon: You know, after all of the pain she has caused, I can't believe that you are defending her.

Nikki: Oh, Phyllis, what a coincidence. I was just now wondering how long Senator Abbott would allow a convicted felon on the payroll.

Phyllis: And I was just now wondering how long it's gonna take you to realize that your insults don't affect me.

Nikki: It's just good to know that sometimes the system does work.

Phyllis: That's right, and the Newman system works, too. I see you still don't have a seat on the board.

Nikki: Well, I'll have plenty of opportunity to correct that while you're in prison.

Phyllis: Excuse me, I need to see my daughter.

Nikki: Oh, spend as much time with Summer as you can... while you can.

Nick: I should've known you'd be first in line to heckle her.

Nikki: Son, don't you understand what she's done to our family?

Nick: No more than you have. You're the one who brought this to court.

Nikki: I was not going to allow her to destroy this family's integrity.

Nick: Look, I don't care what you did or she said. This is my wife and the mother of my daughter, and I demand that you treat her with respect.

Phyllis: She's looking at everything right now. Oh, she wants Mommy's purse. Look how cute she is. Oh, that smile of hers kills me.

Nick: There you go. She is a beauty.

Phyllis: She is a beauty. Hey, Summer...(whispering) you know what your daddy just said? Your daddy just said you're a beauty, and you are.

Nick: All right, I gotta check in and grab some work, and then we can go, okay?

Phyllis: (Normal voice) okay, I'll be here.

Brad: Well, if it isn't the woman of the hour. Didn't expect to see you here.

Phyllis: Sorry to disappoint you, Brad.

Brad: Mm. I'm sorry about the verdict.

Phyllis: I'm sure you are. It's not over yet.

Brad: No, I suppose there is always a chance of an appeal, although there is that pesky videotape of you blackmailing me. I don't even think the great Michael Baldwin is gonna be able to get you out of that one.

Phyllis: You're not getting rid of me that easily.

Brad: Mm. Threats, huh? Still making threats. You haven't learned a thing, have you?

Phyllis: Oh, I love this. (Laughs) this is rich.

Brad: Mm.

Phyllis: Look at you. Look at you. You've practically lost your job. You lost your wife, didn't you? And, uh, what's next? Huh? Your seat on the board? Are you gonna lose that, too, Brad? I don't have to do anything to you. You're gonna lose everything on your own. That right, Sweetie?

Devon: Remember the first time Dru made me set the table?

Neil: (Chuckles) you think I forgot, Man? Come on, you were a punk, a real knucklehead.

Devon: (Chuckles) I didn't believe that she really wanted me to stay with you guys. I thought she was just blowin' smoke like the other foster families.

Neil: You know, Drucilla saw potential in you long before anybody else did. Now you see, me, I-I knew you were trouble right from the beginning.

Devon: Oh, you did? (Laughs) no, Man, I'm just thinking... you know what she said to me on the--on the day that the adoption went through? She said that she always wanted a son.

Neil: Yeah, one like you.

Devon: She said that finding me and adopting me was even better than giving birth to her own.

Neil: Son... she lied.

Devon: (Chuckles)

Neil: Come on, you were a great gift... to your mother... and to our family. We both love you very much.

Gina: Sweetheart, I know you want to be strong for your mother, but you've got to promise me you'll start thinking about yourself and getting prepared for your own trial.

Daniel: I can do both. I plan on fighting those charges.

Gina: I have all the faith in the world in Michael's ability.

Daniel: Oh, come on. Even after my mom's conviction?

Gina: He's not done fighting yet, Honey.

Daniel: (Sighs) I guess it just goes to show that nothing in this world or this life is for certain... oh, except for one thing.

Gina: What do you mean?

Daniel: Lily hates me.

Gina: You don't know that.

Daniel: Are you kidding me? Look at the way she's staring at me from across the room.

Gina: Daniel, you don't have to talk to her if you don't want to.

Daniel: Yeah, yeah, I do. I owe her at least that much.

Daniel: Hi.

Lily: Hi.

Daniel: Take-out?

Lily: Um, yeah, family dinner.

Daniel: Cool.

Lily: Hey, um, I heard about the trial.

Daniel: Yeah. You okay?

Lily: Yeah... I will be. I'm just, you know, glad it's over.

Daniel: Me, too.

Lily: Um, well, I have... I have to go.

Michael: Well, I'm on my way to the clerk's office to file my notice of appeal.

Phyllis: Okay, thanks.

Michael: I'll start working on the brief right away.

Phyllis: What if you don't find anything?

Michael: Hey, that's what you pay me the big bucks for.

Summer: (Cooing)

Phyllis: Hey.

Michael: (Chuckles) is that, uh, code talk or is Summer cooing?

Phyllis: Yeah... (Chuckles) she is. I can't put her down.

Michael: There's no need to. Look, be with your daughter. Forget about the trial for a night.

Phyllis: Okay, I will. Hey, listen, thank you for everything.

Michael: Oh, thanks for nothing, you mean. All right, I'll talk to you in the morning?

Phyllis: Bye.

Victor: Look who's come to visit. Look at that. What are you doing there?

Phyllis: (Chuckles) it's your granddaughter-- hi, Baby-- and her miscreant mother.

Victor: They should not have convicted you today.

Phyllis: I-I'm sorry. Um... thank you. I-I didn't expect that from you, especially after my run-in with Nikki.

Victor: I don't blame you for this, Phyllis. I blame my wife and Brad Carlton for this fiasco. There, look at you! You look... there. There.

Phyllis: You told me to plea bargain. You told me to do it. I didn't listen to you. That's what you told me to do. I was too stubborn.

Victor: You took a chance, that's all.

Phyllis: Oh, yeah, I took a chance. I lost.

Devon: Lily, what took you so long? I'm starving.

Neil: Lily, is that you? We were about to send a search and rescue out for you.

Lily: Yeah, I needed some air, so I took a drive. Hey, um, warm this up in the oven, okay? Um, I ran into Daniel at the athletic club.

Devon: Oh, really? He better be happy he didn't run into me.

Neil: Lily, are you all right?

Lily: No, I'm not all right. Seeing Daniel just made me feel worse about... everything.

Michael: (Hums) what, you want Daddy to smash you up some fruit, my friend? Would you?

Lauren: Oh, yeah. See that look right there? That is "Yes, Daddy, please." There's, um, peaches in the diaper bag.

Michael: Oh, get that-- ooh, not Daddy food.

Lauren: Want me to help you?

Michael: Please, oh, and more coffee.

Lauren: Oh, no, absolutely not. I am cutting you off.

Michael: No, I-I'm working late. Aren't I?

Lauren: What do you mean you're working late? I thought you said you had time for this appeal. Can't you just relax? It was a hard day.

Michael: It was harder on Phyllis. The thought of not being around Fenmore for years... it would kill me.

Fen: (Coos)

Michael: Summer needs to be with her mommy, and I gotta figure out a way to make that happen, don't I? Don't I?

Lauren: I'm really worried you're gonna burn yourself out.

Fen: (Laughs)

Michael: Worry about Phyllis. I'm the one who ruined her life.

Lauren: You know, you cannot take credit for that. I saw the tape. Phyllis did what she did, and you can't change it.

Michael: It was my job to get her acquitted. And what if Daniel's convicted? I'll never be able to look her in the face again.

Lauren: Okay. Okay, time-out, really. That's it, you are officially banned from talking about work for the rest of this meal.

Fen: (Giggles)

Michael: (Chuckles)

Lauren: Fen? See? Eat your wrap.

Michael: Mommy's a bully. Mommy's a beautiful bully. Isn't she? Yes, she is. Where you lookin'? Where you lookin'? Where you lookin'? Ooh!

Lauren: (Laughs)

Michael: Ooh!

Fen: (Laughs)

Michael: Yes! Yes.

Phyllis: Perfect timing. We're about to, uh, eat dinner.

Daniel: Oh, yeah, I thought I smelled something burning.

Phyllis: Oh, you're so funny. You're a comedian.

Nick: She's making something with crushed potato chips.

Daniel: Yeah? Well, Mom's a real whiz in the kitchen. Uh, you expect us to eat this?

Phyllis: Yes, I do expect you to eat it. Pretend like you like it.

Daniel: Yeah, I don't know if I'm that good of an actor. Hey, have you heard from Michael?

Phyllis: Hey, uh, I don't want to talk about the thing, okay? We're not gonna talk about the thing. We'll talk about anything else. We'll talk about the lamp, whatever, but not the thing. We'll talk about your thing. I'm all ears.

Daniel: How about no trial talk?

Phyllis: All right. I just want to be there for you. Anyway...

Nick: Hey, uh, we're planning on taking Summer to the zoo tomorrow. If you want to come with us, we'd love to have you.

Daniel: Uh, yeah, you know, let me see if I can make it.

Nick: Okay. How about Noah's baseball game on Saturday?

Daniel: Definitely gonna be there.

Phyllis: Ohh. Well, this is mush. It's mush! It's not good enough.

Nick: How about if I help you make something else?

Phyllis: I-it's all right. It's no problem. There's no time to make any-- anything else. I don't have any time. I don't have any time to--

Nick: Hey, it's--its okay.

Daniel: Listen, why don't I get the to-go menus?

Sharon: Oh, that's too bad that Sam got that sick.

Jack: Yeah, it stinks that you had to cut your trip short.

Noah: Yeah, well...

Sharon: There will be other trips to the lake.

Noah: I don't care about the stupid lake. I saw the news on the TV in the lobby. Phyllis is going to jail, isn't she?

Jack: Uh, that hasn't been decided yet.

Noah: They said she was guilty. Doesn't that mean she's going?

Jack: Not necessarily.

Sharon: Um, let's talk about this more when we get home, okay?

Noah: No, I don't want to go anywhere with you.

Jack: Hey, hey, hey. What's going on with you, Pal?

Noah: I heard what they said on the news. You testified against Phyllis. It's your fault. You're the reason she's going to jail.

Sharon: Noah--

Noah: Why did you do that? Why did you say all those mean things about her?

Jack: Noah, your mom had to tell the truth.

Noah: No, she didn't.

Sharon: Sweetie, listen to me--

Noah: Just leave me alone. I hate you! I want my dad! I don't want to live with you anymore!

Sharon: I did not want to testify against Phyllis.

Noah: Then why did you?

Sharon: I had to.

Noah: No, you didn't. Besides, you've never liked her. You want to see her in jail.

Jack: Noah, your mom had no choice.

Noah: Yes, she did.

Jack: You know what a subpoena is?

Noah: I-I don't care.

Jack: A subpoena is a piece of paper that tells you you have to testify. If your mom had refused, if she'd lied on the stand, she could be in very big trouble, maybe gone to jail herself.

Noah: You're lying.

Jack: I'm not lying. I'm telling you the truth. You lie in court, they can lock you up.

Noah: For real?

Jack: For real. You wouldn't want that for your mom, would you? She did not want to hurt Phyllis. She had to tell the truth.

Noah: Why is Phyllis going to jail? Did she do something wrong?

Jack: Sometimes... people do things without realizing they're breaking the law. Or--or sometimes they realize it's against the law, but they do it anyway because they don't think it's so bad. Here, when I was your age, my friends and I used to climb a neighbor's fence and pick apples off of his tree. We knew it was wrong. We knew if we got caught stealing, we'd be in big trouble, but we did it anyway.

Noah: I get it.

Jack: Phyllis' situation is something like that. Your mom is not to blame. She was forced to tell the truth. She did not want Phyllis to go to jail.

Noah: Is that true?

Sharon: Absolutely.

Jack: You okay, Buddy?

Noah: I guess. Can I have a soda?

Sharon: There's some juice in the break room.

Noah: I want a soda.

Sharon: Thank you. I appreciated that.

Jack: What, me lying to Noah?

Sharon: You agree with him? You think I'm to blame for what's happened to Phyllis?

Lauren: Now don't you work all night. Promise?

Michael: Well, the night is young.

Lauren: Ah, mnh-mnh, I'm serious.

Michael: I am, too. I'm not gonna let Phyllis down again.

Lauren: Yes, well, you have a wife. Don't you let me down, either.

Brad: Uh, Miss Stevens. Excuse me, your office said I could find you here.

Heather: What is it, Mr. Carlton? I have to be in court in--

Brad: I think it's important you know the reason Phyllis was late to court this afternoon.

Heather: Oh.

Brad: She left town, and she wasn't planning on coming back for the verdict.

Nikki: So you think I was unkind to Phyllis?

Victor: Look, it is obvious that you have no sympathy for that woman at all.

Nikki: And you do? She has no one to thank but herself for what happened.

Victor: You set the whole damn thing in motion. You know it!

Nikki: Okay, I am done arguing. Done.

Victor: You just live with the idea that you are responsible for our grandchild growing up without a mother!

Phyllis: Oh, I think somebody is wet. I think somebody is wet.

Daniel: Hey, let me take her. I could take care of it.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. Its okay, I'll do it.

Daniel: No, it's cool. We'll be gone for just a couple of seconds. We'll be fine.

Phyllis: All right. Okay.

Daniel: You want to come with me?

Phyllis: Hey, Sweetie, take care of your big brother, all right?

Daniel: Come on. Come on. Ooh, come on. Ooh. You okay?

Phyllis: She got my shirt.

Daniel: I got you.

Phyllis: All right.

Daniel: I got you there.

Phyllis: Good job. Bye, Sweetie!

Daniel: Come on, I'll take care of you.

Phyllis: All right. Go have fun.

Nick: He's great with her.

Phyllis: She loves her big brothers. Noah is great with her, too.

Nick: What are you thinkin' about?

Phyllis: When I said good-bye to her this morning... I thought the next time I'd see her was, uh, on one of those jail visits. The thought of that--I can't...

Nick: Well, it turned out better than you thought, right?

Phyllis: I'm such an idiot. Why do I do this? (Crying) why do I do this?

Phyllis: I could be separated from my family for six years. Why didn't I think of that? My baby girl, my sweet baby girl, my-- my son... who's gonna help him? Who's gonna help my son if I'm not there? Who's gonna do that? I am such an idiot! Everybody is right. Why don't I think before I act? I'm so selfish. I don't know why I do this! Nick, I... I don't know what to do. (Sniffles) oh...

Nick: All right, listen to me.

Phyllis: I-I can't even think about this anymore!

Nick: Listen to me. Listen to me, listen to me. I support you... and I'm gonna look out for you after the trial the way I tried to during the trial. And you better believe that I'm gonna support your son. Look, whatever happens, it's--it's gonna happen. But just know that I plan on being around to help you both any way I can.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Phyllis: (Whispers) thank you.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Sharon: I would never do anything that would hurt my husband.

Ben: I hope that's true.

Michael: She had it on good authority that you definitely tried to run.

Phyllis: Who told her that?

Man: The surgery itself is very risky.

Jana: So you mean I could die?
