Nick: All right, what the hell is going on?

Phyllis: This is my wedding day!

Michael: That's what I wanna know.

Phyllis: This is a misunderstanding!

Michael: Phyllis--Phyllis, let me handle this.

Phyllis: This is a misunderstanding!

Sullivan: Okay, Sandy, let's go.

Michael: All right, Detective Sullivan, this woman is my client. I demand to know the grounds you're arresting her on.

Sullivan: Extortion.

Phyllis: What?!

Victor: What do you mean, extortion? Son, do you know what's going on?

Nick: No, I don't.

Sullivan: Okay, this way. Let's go.

Phyllis: Michael! Michael, do something!

Michael: Detective Sullivan, give this woman a break! It's her wedding day!

Sullivan: I'm sorry. I'm just following orders.

Phyllis: Michael, don't let this happen!

Michael: All right, don't make a scene. I will meet you there. I will meet you there.

Phyllis: No! No! Lauren! Lauren! The baby!

Nick: I'm gonna come with you. It's okay. It's okay.

Phyllis: Lauren, take the baby.

Lauren: I got it.

Victor: Detective, excuse me. This is absurd.

Sullivan: Mr. Newman, I'm sorry. I'm just following orders. Mrs. Newman, we need to go.

Phyllis: You're bringing the baby?

Nick: No, no, I'll leave her with Lauren.

Phyllis: All right, Sweetie, I'll see you later. Mommy loves you. Be good for Lauren, okay? You be good for Lauren. No! No!

Summer: (Cries)

Lauren: I know. Shh.

Victor: Do you know what's going on? I have a feeling you do.

Nikki: It's very complicated.

Victor: What do you mean it's complicated? Then uncomplicate it for me.

Victoria: Excuse me for a minute. Phyllis blackmailed Brad

Nikki: To get Neil elected to the board of directors instead of me.

Victoria: She found out about Brad and Sharon's little fling in New York and...

Victor: So with Neil on the board of directors, Phyllis knew that the Clear Springs project would go through?

Nikki: She was counting on it.

Victor: Were either one of you aware of this?

Victoria: Dad, we only found out yesterday.

Victor: Then why didn't you wait until after the wedding to report it?

Victoria: We didn't report it.

Victor: Then who did?

Phyllis: Well, I got ink stains on my dress and my--my wedding photo is a mug shot.

Nick: It's gonna make a great story for the grandchildren.

Phyllis: How much longer do I have to stay here?

Michael: I'll do what I can to have them set bail quickly.

Nick: Can we, uh, see a judge this late in the evening?

Michael: We can try.

Phyllis: We can try?

Nick: He's gonna try.

Phyllis: Do I have to spend my wedding night behind bars?

Nick: Well, that's an even better story for our grandkids.

Noah: We don't have to go to the dumb reception, do we?

Jack: Sorry, Pal, you're part of the wedding party. They all have to go, too.

Sharon: There will be cake.

Noah: I don't want any cake. It's just gonna be a bunch of boring adults just like at the rehearsal dinner.

Sharon: Well, at least this way you can change your suit. Why don't you go and get out of that thing?

Jack: You know what? Noah's right. I doubt we'd be missed.

Sharon: I suppose... we could just stay here. Celebrate our own wedding. I mean, we are still on our honeymoon.

Jack: Oh, I do like the sound of that. Of course, we just finished telling him we have to go.

Sharon: True. Okay, but, um... afterwards, I would like it if you would stay.

Jack: With Noah here?

Sharon: Well... we're married now, Jack. I think its okay.

Jack: You get no argument from me.

Brad: Hey.

Victoria: Hey. What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in Chicago, checking out those factories.

Brad: I finished sooner than expected. I took an early flight.

Victoria: Oh.

Brad: Aren't you going to the reception?

Victoria: There's not gonna be one.

Brad: Why?

Victoria: Well... right after the "I do's," the blushing bride was carted off to jail in handcuffs.

Brad: I didn't realize it would happen that fast.

Victoria: You didn't realize? Oh, of course... you turned Phyllis in.

Brad: Victoria... Phyllis was blackmailing me!

Victoria: If she hadn't, I still wouldn't know about you and Sharon.

Brad: You make it sound as if you're glad she did it.

Victoria: I would much rather know the truth, even if I hate it. But I do not need this going public.

Brad: Okay, listen, you have to--

Victoria: No, I can't listen anymore! I can't believe this is gonna be all over the news-- your compromised vote, your cheating with my sister-in-law!

Brad: If you would let me finish a sentence!

Victoria: This should've been handled in private. You are creating a huge scandal for no reason!

Brad: You have to understand exactly--

Victoria: We need to do damage control. Drop the charges.

Brad: I can't.

Victoria: We'll ask Neil to resign. My mother can take his place. The funding for "Jack's folly"-- it can be yanked.

Brad: Victoria, stop! It's too late. The case is already in the D.A.'s hands.

Victoria: The D.A. and our attorneys. I called them before I left the church.

Brad: What do you think our attorneys are gonna do?

Victoria: Clean up your mess.

(Door slams)

Noah: Mom, I can't get this tie off! It's choking me!

Sharon: Coming! (Telephone ringing)

Jack: I'll help Noah.

Sharon: Okay.

Jack: Coming!

Sharon: Hello?

Brad: It's Brad. I can't talk long.

Sharon: How are you?

Brad: I called to warn you.

Sharon: About?

Sharon: Please tell me you're kidding.

Brad: I just found out that Phyllis was arrested right after the ceremony at the church.

Sharon: Why would you-- I don't get it.

Brad: I couldn't let her win. I... I needed to fix my mistake.

Sharon: By having her arrested?

Brad: Listen, Sharon, I voted Neil onto the board because I was coerced and I lied to Victoria about it. This was the only thing I could do.

Sharon: So you're calling to tell me that our affair is going public no matter who it hurts? Great, Brad! Thanks for the warning that you're messing up my life and I can't do anything about it.

Nick: The funds are ready. Just as soon as bail's granted.

Michael: If it's granted.

Phyllis: How much trouble am I in?

Michael: Did you write anything down? A letter? An e-mail? Anything that could incriminate you?

Phyllis: No, it was all verbal.

Michael: So it's your word against theirs.

Phyllis: That's good, right?

Michael: It would help if we knew who turned you in.

Nick: My money's on brad. Maybe Sharon.

Michael: Who else?

Phyllis: Neil knows what we fought about at the cliff.

Michael: You think he holds you responsible for Drucilla's death?

Phyllis: Yeah, partly, sure.

Michael: Oh... William, glad you're here.

Will: You're happy to see me? That's a first.

Michael: I want you to tell me who swore out a complaint against my client.

Will: Sorry, Counsel. I'm afraid I can't give you that information.

Michael: My client has a right to know who's accusing her!

Will: The state is accusing her. She'll have every opportunity to defend herself at trial.

Michael: It was Brad Carlton?

Will: Brad Carlton is the victim. But then I'm sure you already knew that.

Phyllis: Oh, Brad Carlton--

Michael: Quiet! Quiet! Phyllis!

Phyllis: Okay, fine, fine.

Michael: He's the one behind this, isn't he?

Will: You'll have to excuse me. I have a few things to wrap up.

Michael: I'll take that as a yes.

Nick: I'm gonna go ask Brad.

Michael: No, you're not! Not unless you and your new bride want adjoining holding cells for a bridal gift.

Phyllis: This is shocking. I honestly-- I underestimated Brad. I didn't think he'd go this far.

Nick: All right, what is the worst thing that they can do to her?

Michael: Phyllis committed a felony. If convicted, she could go to prison.

Phyllis: Oh, no, Nick...

Nick: Hey, hey, hey, hey... no tears on the dress, remember? Michael's gonna do something, right?

Michael: I'll see what I can do to speed up the bail hearing.

Phyllis: I ruined everything. I'm so sorry. I ruined everything.

Nick: No, you didn't. Look, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, all right? I have always had this jail fantasy. You know, the cold table, you in one of those orange jumpsuits, handcuffs... that's what I'm talking about.

Phyllis: Nick...

Nick: I'm serious. Is there any way you can get one of those orange outfits and bring it home with you?

Phyllis: I'm not laughing.

Sullivan: Mr. Newman? You have to leave. Lawyers only. It's the rule.

Victoria: Legal's working on ways to put a stop to this.

Brad: I don't want it stopped.

Victoria: You know... just when I let my guard down, you drop another bomb.

Brad: Is there any little part of you that enjoys seeing Phyllis get what she deserves?

Victoria: I do not enjoy publicizing my private affairs, all right? How do you think Neil's gonna react when he finds out that his board seat was fixed?

Brad: He knows.

Victoria: How?

Brad: After the accident at the photo shoot, Sharon told him.

Victoria: And you know this because she told you.

Brad: Yes.

Victoria: Oh, yeah. Of course! Sure! You and Sharon kept your secrets while your wife was walking around clueless.

Brad: It wasn't like that.

Victoria: You know, I get why you kept it from me. But I'm surprised that you didn't think about how this would affect the company.

Brad: I took a gamble.

Victoria: And you lost! Well, thankfully, Neil does care about Newman Enterprises.

Brad: What is that supposed to mean?

Victoria: He's a smart businessman. I have to believe that Neil will consider the big picture and he'll give up his board seat.

Victoria: Did you, uh, did you hear what happened after Nick and Phyllis' wedding?

Neil: Uh, I don't care. I'm not interested.

Victoria: You might be interested in this. Phyllis was arrested for extortion.

Neil: Wow! Today's gonna be a good day after all.

Victoria: No, Neil, not good. Not for Newman. We need to suppress this whole thing A.S.A.P.

Neil: Really? How do you plan to do that?

Victoria: I'd like you to step down. I'd like my mother to take your place and we'll get Phyllis to accept a plea.

Neil: I knew this day was coming. No, that's not gonna work for me.

Victoria: Neil, it's the only way to keep this from turning into major headlines.

Neil: Hey, I'm sorry, Victoria. I worked too hard to give up my board seat.

Victoria: You know, people are gonna find out how you got that seat. And I'm not thinking that that's gonna be very good for your career in the long run.

Neil: Really? Wow, you're worried about my career?

Victoria: Listen, as soon as there's another vacancy, we'll put you in.

Neil: That won't be for years and you know it.

Victoria: Please, Neil.

Neil: No. I'm not gonna take one for the team this time.

Victoria: Will you at least think about it?

Neil: There's nothing to think about. I'd have been on that board years ago if it weren't for Brad. He's been manipulating my career all these years.

Victoria: Neil, I need your help, all right? I need your help. Will you consider it?

Neil: Okay, let me consider it. No. I earned that position. I'd be an idiot to give it up now.

Victoria: There's nothing I can do to make you change your mind?

Neil: I'm not the bad guy here. Brad did this to himself. He's gotta deal with it. So do you.

[Sharon remembering]

Jack: You and Brad?

Sharon: Look, it happened a long time ago, before you and I ever--

Jack: Yeah, I know, when you were both married to other people. Go ahead, say it.

Sharon: What do you wanna know?

Jack: That it was just sex. That it meant nothing more than that. Oh, my God, you can't even say it. What... so what was this? Was this revenge? Some way to get back at Nicholas?

Sharon: I suppose, yeah, that was part of it.

Jack: Part of it?

Sharon: I-I needed someone.

Jack: Right place, right time? And what was Carlton's excuse? It seems to me he was... he would've been on his honeymoon with Victoria at the time, am I right?

Sharon: Listen... none of this matters.

Jack: You and I made a lifetime commitment to each other last night in this room! If it was so damn important for me to know about Brad, why didn't you tell me before last night? What... oh, wait, I... I'm not the first to know, am I?

Sharon: Jack...

Jack: You were afraid that I would hear this from someone else and that's the only reason you told me.

Jack: Well, Noah's changed his mind about going to the reception. I don't think he wanted to let his dad down.

Sharon: It's been canceled. Phyllis is in jail.

Jack: Did she forget to pay the florist? Sharon?

Sharon: Phyllis was blackmailing Brad.

Jack: Oh, come on.

Sharon: It's true.

Jack: Wait a minute, blackmailing him about... about your affair?

Sharon: Victoria found out. She's furious with Brad and I guess he just wanted to get back at Phyllis.

Jack: So he had her arrested? What could that possibly solve?

Sharon: I couldn't believe it either.

Jack: No, wait, Phyllis wouldn't do this. No, she's changed.

Sharon: Apparently not. Look, I know what you're thinking. I wish that I had told you--

Jack: Told me everything?

Sharon: Yes.

Jack: You lied to me. Again.

Sharon: I didn't lie.

Jack: You didn't tell the truth! You were supposedly confessing everything, only you left this out. What, did you forget?

Sharon: Jack...

Jack: Here we are again. The only reason you're telling me is because I'd have found out elsewhere. A pattern here, maybe?

Sharon: I'm sorry. I... I wish I would've told you.

Jack: Yeah. Maybe you should have.

Sharon: Jack, I have no reason to hide anything from you.

Jack: Your actions say otherwise.

Sharon: I've told you everything there is to know.

Jack: Like you told me everything before, huh?

Sharon: I disappoint you, I know...

Jack: What did you expect?

Sharon: You have to know how committed I am to you and to our marriage.

Jack: Let me ask you something. Do you trust me?

Sharon: Yes, of course.

Jack: Then why didn't you tell me everything to begin with?

Sharon: I wanted to! I wanted to, okay, but I was afraid of--

Noah: How come you guys are fighting?

Sharon: We're not fighting. We're just talking loud.

Noah: Did Jack tell you, Mom?

Sharon: Tell me what?

Noah: I think I should go to the reception.

Jack: You know what, Sport? Uh, something's come up.

Sharon: Yeah, um, the reception's been canceled.

Noah: How come?

Jack: A problem with the caterer, I think.

Noah: Oh.

Sharon: We're not exactly sure.

Noah: No cake then, huh?

Sharon: Oh, but, um, guess what? That book that we ordered for you online-- that came in today. And with the wedding and everything, I almost forgot to tell you.

Noah: Oh, my Geronimo book!

Jack: Geronimo, like the apache?

Noah: Yeah, he was way cool. Can you come and read it with me?

Sharon: We both will.

Noah: Promise?

Sharon: Promise.

Jack: Go on up. We'll--we'll be right there, okay, Buddy?

Noah: Okay.

Jack: Is there anything else you need to tell me? Anything you maybe left out?

Sharon: No.

Jack: Then we're done.

Victor: I guess Gina is none too pleased.

Nikki: Oh, she's all right. She's gonna send the food to a homeless shelter.

Victor: What about the guests?

Nikki: Lauren's trying to contact them. If somebody shows up, Gina will tell them.

Victor: This has been quite a day, hasn't it?

Nikki: Yes, it has.

Victor: I guess I was hoping that the divisiveness of that board vote would not last too long. I thought that the wedding would just sort of smooth things over, you know?

Nikki: Nothing is easy where Phyllis is concerned.

Victor: That's for sure and she'll live to regret it.

Nikki: She probably already is.

Victor: No one interferes with the way I do business.

Nikki: You'd think she would understand that by now, wouldn't you?

Nick: You know, you're a real bastard!

Brad: I'm not the one who did something illegal, Nick. Phyllis broke the law.

Nick: Broke the law?! What about you? Your whole life is a lie! What if I go public about your background?!

Brad: Well, if that's what you feel you need to do, you go right ahead. My family isn't in danger anymore, so I really couldn't care less.

Nick: Oh, really? What about those two guys you killed at that church?

Brad: Self-defense. And you were an eyewitness. So if I go down, you'll go down with me.

Nick: Does it make you feel good to see my wife arrested on her wedding day? You feel like a big man?

Victoria: Hey... this is the last thing we need.

Brad: I was just leaving.

Victoria: Good idea. So I assume you heard about what Brad did?

Nick: He turns in my wife, he cheats on you. What else is it gonna take? How much more does he have to do to show you he is a loser?!

Victoria: Nick...

Nick: Don't defend him! Don't do that! Sis, he is gonna keep hurting you. Leave him now! Before it gets any worse!

Neil: Hey, Brad. Can I pour you a cup of coffee?

Brad: Drop a little dose of arsenic in there?

Neil: The way I see it, I owe ya. I couldn't figure out why you'd vote for me, but it turned out in everyone's favor, didn't it?

Brad: You're welcome.

Neil: Yeah. The problem is, Victoria doesn't agree. She's trying to do something about it.

Brad: She asked you to resign from the board.

Neil: Yes, she did. She wants to replace me with Nikki.

Brad: What'd you tell her?

Neil: I told her, not a chance. That if she wants to clean up after your mess, she's gonna have to find another way. You see, I'm not giving up my board seat without a fight. And if it comes to that, it's gonna get ugly. Brad, I look forward to working with you for the good of the company.

Nikki: Oh, great, you're both here.

David: You summon, we respond.

Karen: I hope this is good news.

Nikki: Um, yes and no. Let's just say that my video is not gonna be a problem anymore.

David: Okay, and why is that?

Nikki: It's been replaced with a bigger and better story.

Karen: What now?

Nikki: Well, my newly married daughter-in-law just got hauled off to jail in handcuffs.

Michael: Bail money's been posted.

Phyllis: Can I go now?

Michael: As soon as the paperwork's finished.

Sharon: What a nice surprise.

Victor: Where's Jack?

Sharon: He's upstairs with Noah reading a book.

Victor: Ah. Jack reading a book to my grandson--well, well. So I gather you've heard about the wedding?

Sharon: Yes. Um, Brad already called me. I'm just thankful that Noah wasn't there to see it.

Victor: Yeah. You, of course understand that your affair with Brad has caused a lot of problems.

Sharon: You know, if I could go back and change that, I would.

Victor: Unfortunately, the damage has been done.

David: You're positive?

Nikki: Find anything yet?

Karen: I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

David: Well, I guess it's to be expected. One of the guests probably had a friend who knew a friend who knew somebody in the media.

Karen: I take that back.

Nikki: Whoa!

Karen: It just popped up on that blog.

David: Well, thanks a lot for getting back to me, J.W. take care. The press already knows about Phyllis' arrest.

Nikki: It's all over the internet.

Karen: We can't undo the damage now.

David: Nikki, I know your first concern is your family, but I gotta tell you, this will definitely affect the senate race as well.

Nikki: Well, that's true. There will be fallout for Jack's campaign.

Karen: There's no getting around that.

David: Even if he did not know what Phyllis did, he benefited by getting his project pushed through.

Nikki: He certainly did.

Victor: Hi, Jack. How's Noah?

Jack: He's oblivious. He's upstairs reading.

Victor: Uh-huh. Well, it was inevitable that he will find out.

Sharon: I, uh, I have to talk to Nick and see how he wants to handle things.

Victor: I think that's wise.

Sharon: Well, I think that I can keep this from him, at least until tomorrow.

Jack: I'm sure you can.

Victor: Did you have any idea what Phyllis was up to?

Jack: Not until tonight, no.

Victor: I believe you.

Jack: Well, thanks. I'm not sure everyone will. And Clear Springs is a pretty big part of my platform.

Victor: Uh-huh. Well, without Neil's votes, there wouldn't have been approval.

Jack: Not exactly the kind of thing a guy who's running for the senate wants on his resume, is it?

Victor: Don't you think it's time to issue a statement to the press?

Jack: Could we... maybe, uh, talk about this tomorrow? I'll happily come to your office.

Victor: Sure. Why don't you come to my office early? I'll see myself out. Good night.

Sharon: So now you and Victor are afraid to talk in front of me?

Jack: I think you promised Noah you'd come back and read with him. I'm sure he still takes you at your word.

Lauren: Oh, thank God! I was starting to worry. I thought you were gonna be there all night.

Michael: Not if I had anything to say about it.

Lauren: You okay?

Phyllis: Uh, no.

Lauren: No, of course you're not. I'm sorry. Come on, come sit down. Can I get you anything?

Phyllis: Uh, a new life? I'll take one of those.

Lauren: What about the press? Were they all over you when you tried to leave the jail?

Michael: Bardwell arranged for us to leave through the back. Whatever he is, the man is courteous.

Phyllis: How's my baby girl?

Lauren: She's okay. She's okay.

Phyllis: Yeah?

Lauren: She's been fed, changed. She and Fen are sound asleep and they're dreaming about whatever babies dream about.

Phyllis: Oh... I wish today were a dream, so I could just wake up-- (doorbell rings)

Michael: Excuse me.

Lauren: Do you want something to eat? Do you want something to drink?

Phyllis: No, I'm fine.

Lauren: Are you sure?

Phyllis: Oh, definitely. Don't worry. Hey, Baby.

Nick: Hey.

Phyllis: Oh...

Michael: I know this is the last thing you two wanna do on your wedding night, but we need to discuss a defense.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know. Anything to keep me out of jail.

Michael: For starters, no talking to the press.

Phyllis: No comment. I get it.

Michael: I mean it. They're not joking when they say everything you say can be used against you.

Nick: We understand.

Lauren: Let me get you something-- let me get you some clothes or something.

Phyllis: No, I wanna keep this on. It's the only thing that reminds me that today was my wedding day.

Nick: What do I do? Do I remind you at all?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. It took us so long to decide what our song was gonna be. We never even got to dance to it.

Nick: We're gonna dance to it.

Sharon: Noah fell asleep before I could get past chapter three.

Jack: Yeah, he had a busy day-- a lot of responsibilities.

Sharon: Thank you for helping me keep him distracted.

Jack: He's a great kid. He's a great kid. And I wish there was something we could do to keep him from knowing all this.

Sharon: Well, um... you wanna make some dinner?

Jack: No, I, uh... kinda lost my appetite.

Sharon: Okay. Let's just go to bed then.

Jack: Yeah, I think I'm about ready to bring this day to an end.

Sharon: Great.

Sharon: Aren't you coming up?

Jack: No, I'm gonna go home. I'll catch up with you tomorrow.

Brad: You done for the day?

Victoria: I did as much as one person could do.

Brad: Well, why don't you let me drive you home? We can leave your car. That's what security guards are for, right? Or we could, uh... leave my car, take yours.

Victoria: Why don't you just drive yourself home, hmm?

Brad: You can't ignore me forever, Victoria.

Victoria: I could try.

Brad: Listen, no matter what you think, I did the right thing. The only thing I could do under the circumstances.

Victoria: You're just making me angry again.

Brad: Why can't you see this from my perspective?

Victoria: I see that your perspective is entirely selfish.

Brad: That's not true! I had no choice!

Victoria: Yes, you did. It's bad enough that you called the police, but you made a big decision yet again without bothering to talk to me. You put Newman Enterprises at risk and you ruined my brother's wedding day!

Brad: All right, look, the timing was not my fault.

Victoria: No. Nothing's ever your fault.

Nick: That didn't take long.

Phyllis: Yeah, Summer was tired. She didn't get a nap before the ceremony. You know, I had a lot of fantasies about our honeymoon.

Nick: Nice. Care to share?

Phyllis: It wasn't gonna be like this.

Nick: Maybe they involve those handcuffs you were wearing?

Phyllis: I'm not gonna laugh about this. Thanks for trying, but I'm not gonna laugh.

Nick: Okay. What if I told you that someday we're gonna look back on this and laugh? Does that work?

Phyllis: I could miss our daughter's first steps. I could miss... her getting her first tooth. And I could miss her graduating from elementary school.

Nick: Okay, all right, now you're getting carried away.

Phyllis: I'm not getting carried away.

Nick: Yes, you are. I'm not gonna let that happen, all right? We're not gonna let that happen. It's not gonna happen.

Phyllis: I missed-- no, but I missed so much of my son's life. I can't bear the thought of my missing Summer's, too.

Nick: I assure you, it won't get that far. Because I will tell Brad's history to the right people. And he'll be more than willing to cooperate.

Phyllis: You think?

Nick: You just wait and see how fast he backs off on those charges.

Phyllis: But you were at the church when he killed those men. And you helped cover it up. You would get in trouble, too.

Nick: I don't care.

Phyllis: Oh, I care! Listen, there's a possibility that I might go to prison. You're not gonna go, too. Nick, I mean it. You're not going. You're not gonna do that. I got myself into this. I'm gonna get myself out of it.

Victor: So what's the problem?

Neil: The problem is, your daughter asked me to resign from the board and... I refused.

Victor: Of course you refused. You deserve that job.

Neil: Thanks. Thanks for saying that.

Victor: You're an honest man, Neil, unlike my son-in-law Brad Carlton. Why the hell should you pay for his mistakes?

Neil: I appreciate your support, Victor.

Victor: To be honest with you, I wish my daughter had never set eyes on that man. I've never trusted him.

Neil: No argument there.

Victor: I may disagree with what Phyllis did, but the way Brad Carlton handled it-- it was absolutely unconscionable. If that man thinks I'm gonna sit by and just take it, he's deluding himself.

Karen: You know, in spite of the embarrassment to your family, Nikki, this couldn't have come at a better time.

David: Any way Jack tries to spin it, you are the wronged party.

Karen: He made Clear Springs central to his campaign.

David: Absolutely! Which could easily backfire on him with the suggestion that he stood to gain from--from Phyllis' extortion.

Nikki: I suppose there is some justice in that.

David: Don't take any calls from the media until we draft up a response.

Nikki: No, no. No calls. No comments. I can do that, but I may have a few suggestions for that statement.

David: Got it.

[Nikki remembering]

Nikki: Oh, hi, I was just calling Victoria.

Brad: She's on her way home. She couldn't get away from me fast enough. Do you understand what this is costing me?

Nikki: Infidelity is costing you, Brad. And by the way, our plan is working.

Brad: Your plan, Nikki, not mine. I'm busy, Nikki. What can't wait?

Nikki: Too busy to let Phyllis get away with taking advantage of Newman Enterprises?

Brad: Look, Neil's on the board. Clear Springs is funded. Live with it.

Nikki: Let me give you a quick history lesson. Neil is on the board and Clear Springs is funded because Phyllis threatened to expose your little affair. In doing so, she committed extortion.

Brad: And extortion is big news in Genoa City.

Nikki: Oh, this one will be.

Brad: Why?

Nikki: Because either you go to the police or I will.

Brad: You'll what?!

Nikki: Hey, if I don't report a crime, how can I expect my voters to take me seriously?

Brad: I got it. This is about Jack, not Phyllis. You want the people to think she influenced my vote to benefit him.

Nikki: He did benefit from your vote and Phyllis was successful in threatening you. That is extortion.

Brad: And what's the difference between her threat and what you're doing now?

Nikki: Brad, I'm not threatening you. I am merely giving you the chance to report a crime. This way, you're the victim, not part of the cover up.

Brad: You would embarrass your own daughter just so Jack takes a hit in the polls?

Nikki: Look, I am doing what anybody would do to win an election. You're the one who embarrassed her by sleeping around.

Brad: Voters won't like a candidate who subjects her daughter to ridicule by bloggers and talk show hosts.

Nikki: What, you think I'm gonna show up at a police station and say that my son-in-law was threatened with exposure over an affair he had? No, that will be leaked by reliable sources. Look, just say that you voted your conscience in spite of the extortion. That's a lie I can live with. Whatever you do, just let me know after you've filed your police report, so that I can release a statement saying how very saddened I am by allegations that my opponent's ex-wife sought to further his financial interests by illegal means. Hey, you think I should put that part in about everybody's innocent until proven guilty? All that jazz?

Brad: You're a piece of work.

Nikki: I am just giving you the chance to do what's right for everybody.

Brad: I'll do what's right for me, not for you.

Nikki: Like there's a difference?

Nikki: Hi, listen, can you try to stop David Chow before he leaves the building? Yeah, it's very important. It'll just take a second, thank you.

David: Two more seconds, I was in the elevator and out of the building. What's up?

Nikki: Um, I didn't wanna say this in front of Karen, but you have my full permission to use Phyllis' legal troubles against Jack.

David: All right. Um, I'm happy to do that, as long you realize that your daughter will end up in the fall out.

Nikki: It's very sad that Victoria will be yet another victim of extortion. But I just don't think that Jack Abbott deserves a free ride.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Sharon: Do you thrive on people hating you?

Brad: There doesn't really seem to be any way around it.

Michael: The D.A.'s file on the tainted cream? Where did you get this?

Victoria: Brad's affair is not for you to make public to use in your-- your damned campaign!
