Michael: I knew. In my heart... I knew that you were still alive. I didn't even want this memorial service. That's how certain I was.

Lauren: And I knew in my heart that I would be with you again. It's the only thing that got me through.

Michael: We're pretty smart, aren't we? Look, as--as much as I'd like to sit here and drink in the sight of you, uh... half the town is on its way to your funeral.

Lauren: Oh, god.

Michael: I better go start making phone calls.

Lauren: Okay, okay. I love you. (Door opens)

Paul: Oh, thank god. Sheila is gone.

Lauren: She's dead.

Paul: No, I mean she's gone. She's missing.

Michael: What?

Lauren: What?

Paul: I just came from the farmhouse. The police, the paramedics searched every inch of rubble in that bomb shelter. There is no sign of Sheila carter anywhere.

Lauren: That is not possible. The ceiling collapsed. There's no way she could've made it out of there.

Paul: Look, Lauren, I don't know how she did it, but somehow, Sheila escaped.

Lauren: Oh, my god.

Paul: Look, until we find her, no one is safe.

Lauren: Oh, god.

Scott: Brenda. It's--it's good to see you. Come on in.

Scott: You must have gotten my messages.

Sheila: (Hoarse voice) yeah.

Scott: Well, it's been the worst week of my entire life.

Sheila: I'm sorry.

Scott: What's wrong with your voice?

Sheila: Oh, I-I-- I got a cold. I lost--lost it.

Scott: Yeah. Um... listen, I want you to come to my mom's memorial service with me. How do I-- how do I do this, Brenda? How do I say good-bye to my mom?

Sheila: I wanna be there for you, Scott.

Scott: Thank you, Brenda.

Scott: You have no idea what that means.

Victoria: So you see, you just--you sort of feather out the edges, and that's how you make clouds. You wanna try?

Abby: No, thanks.

Victoria: Oh. Just not in the mood, huh?

Victoria: Well, is there something else you wanna do?

Brad: Hey, sweetie. You've had a long day. You must be tired. You want to lie down for a little while? Daddy has a few things to finish up and then we can go.

Abby: Okay, daddy.

Brad: Why don't we go in the waiting area? It's quiet out there and there's a nice, comfy couch. And I think there's a cozy blanket in the closet.

Victoria: Oh, yes, there is, on the top shelf.

Abby: Do I have to go to school tomorrow?

Brad: Listen, baby, I know it's hard right now, but you have all your friends at school and you love your teachers.

Abby: They aren't my friends. All they're gonna be talking about is who went to the party tonight, and I don't care about that. I don't care about anything.

Brad: Come here.

Jack: Hey, you're still here?

Ashley: Where else would I be?

Jack: Did you forget? Lauren Fenmore's memorial service, we were gonna ride over there together.

Ashley: Oh, my god. Is it really that late? I completely lost track of time. I've been so worried about dad.

Jack: Why, has something happened?

Ashley: Yeah. I mean, he's okay, physically, anyway.

Jack: What does that mean?

Ashley: He found out I was arrested, jack.

Jack: Oh, damn it. How?

Ashley: Look, I don't even want to get into it, it's so stupid. And I'm so furious because I was trying so hard for him not to find out.

Jack: You know, sis, he was going to find out sooner or later.

Ashley: He was so upset when he heard, jack, he collapsed. He collapsed. And I'm worried what this is gonna do to him.

Gloria: John, I just wish you wouldn't get involved in any of this. You scared me half to death before.

John: Honey, I have got to get out of this hospital and do whatever I can to help my daughter.

Gloria: No. What you have to do is focus on getting well so you can be strong for her. That's what she needs from all of us right now.

John: What I don't understand is how all of this happened? I mean, one minute, I'm home, the next minute, I wake up in a hospital bed where I'm told I had a car accident. And then the same night-- the same night-- tom fisher is shot to death.

Gloria: It's a bizarre coincidence, yeah.

John: No, no, I wonder if it's more than that.

Gloria: What do you mean?

John: Listen, after what that scum did to our family, I would've killed him myself if I had the chance.

Gloria: Shh. Honey... now I have to leave soon to go to Lauren's service, okay? Are you gonna be all right by yourself for a little while? Do you want to go back to your room now?

John: Oh, I just feel terrible that I cannot be there.

Gloria: Thank you. We all loved her very much.

John: I know.

Gloria: No, no, no, no. Stop, stop, please. I can't do this because I have to be strong for Michael.

John: It's just driving me crazy that I don't know what happened.

Gloria: To Lauren?

John: I have got to remember about that accident. I have to do whatever I can to get back those few hours.

Dru: Junk, junk, junk.

Neil: Yep, crazy, isn't it?

Dru: Hmm.

Neil: This place is looking a lot more together.

Dru: Yeah. Um, is Devon still in his room?

Neil: I think he's with Yolanda, doing his homework.

Dru: Oh.

Neil: Hmm?

Dru: Oh, well, it's kind of like old times, like we have the place to ourselves again.

Neil: Mm-hmm. And are you thinking what I am thinking?

Dru: Yes, I am. And I'm gonna put those cards away. I beat you, by the way, at gin rummy.

Neil: That was only one time.

Dru: Yeah, all right, but I'm gonna beat you to the bedroom, okay?

Neil: All right. On your mark, get set, go.

Dru: (Laughs) whoo!

Neil: Now. Hurry up.

Dru: Yeah, you lost this game, brother.

Neil: That's all right 'cause I'm gonna win the next 20 times.

Dru: Oh, yeah, right. Right. Prove it to yourself. Prove it to yourself.

Neil: Hurry up.

Dru: What's this?

Neil: What's what?

Dru: This envelope.

Neil: I don't know. I've never seen it before.

Dru: It says, "the university of Boston."

Yolanda: Okay. What about this?

Devon: That's good.

Yolanda: Yeah?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Yolanda: No, it's not "businessy" enough. You know, I'm gonna go with the skirt.

Devon: Okay.

Yolanda: Enough. Get your nose back in the books.

Devon: I keep thinking about lily. It was cool getting to see her.

Yolanda: You miss her, huh?

Devon: I wish she could've come back with us.

Yolanda: Well, you know what? Maybe she can soon. She broke up with her boyfriend, right?

Devon: How do you know that?

Yolanda: Neil mentioned it. Isn't that why they sent her away, to keep them separated?

Devon: Yeah, partly.

Yolanda: Yeah. Well, then I'd say it worked. Wouldn't you?

Devon: It's probably best if she didn't come back home. They'd just get back together right away.

Yolanda: Why do you think that?

Devon: 'Cause whenever she's around that guy, it's "Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, Daniel." It's like she's being hypnotized. And the worst part about it is that she doesn't even realize it. That guy is bad for her, mom. He really is. I don't understand why she can't see that.

Yolanda: You miss that girl an awful lot, huh?

Devon: Yeah. I got a thing for her, too, and it's not like she's my sister, either.

Michael: Paul, that makes no sense. How could Sheila have gotten out of that predicament--

Paul: I don't know. I don't know. Somehow, she got out.

Sheila: Do you really think

they could keep me locked up?

You go ahead.

You pinch yourself

because I am real.

I am as real as the fact

that you're gonna be dead

very soon.

Everything that you took away

from me,

everything that you have

kept me from all these years...

Scotty--my precious Scotty...

Michael: Are the police at least looking for her?

Paul: There's an A.P.B. Out, but there aren't any leads yet. Look, if Sheila's smart, and she is, she'll try and get out of town as fast as possible.

Michael: Maybe she's at the bus station.

Paul: Or she could hitchhike. I mean, we're assuming she's rational right now. She may not be.

Lauren: Sheila's burning passion all these years has been to get back at me.

Paul: Oh, my god. I know where she's headed.

Lauren: I know what you're thinking.

Paul: She'll go after Scott.

Scott: I'm sorry. I'm trying not to fall apart here. I'll tell you what's really hard is trying to write something for this service. I haven't been able to get a word down on paper, and I'm hoping you can help me with it. Would you help me? I-I don't even know where to begin.

Sheila: I don't think I should.

Scott: Well, why not? You're my writing partner.

Sheila: I'm not family.

Scott: No. No, you never even met my mom, but, you see, I'm trying to paint a picture of who she was, and I think you're the perfect person to help me with that.

Sheila: What are you doing? What are you doing?

Scott: N-- why the hell did you do that? Hey! Unh!

Sheila: I expected more from you, Scott. You betrayed me just like everybody else. already, a and comes un by 9 o'clock. 19ú@d @ I am worried about dad, too. Right now, frankly, I'm a little more worried about you.

Ashley: Oh, I'll be fine. I'll be leaning on you a lot.

Jack: I hope you do.

Ashley: Thanks.

Jack: How you doin' anyway? Has the press been bugging you?

Ashley: Oh, not here, thankfully.

Jack: It's all over the news.

Ashley: I can handle it. Abby's another story.

Jack: Oh, that poor kid.

Ashley: Oh, you don't even know the half of it. Brad called from the office.

Jack: What now?

Ashley: Abby was all set to go to a big birthday party for one of her classmates, and the little girl's mom called and asked brad not to bring her because of everything that's going on.

Jack: Oh, my gosh.

Ashley: Abby was just crushed.

Jack: That stinks.

Ashley: It's one thing, you know, for my life to be going to hell, but it's totally unfair for Abby to have to pay the price for I did.

Victoria: How's Abby?

Brad: Well, believe it or not, she drifted off.

Victoria: Poor thing. My heart really went out to her.

Brad: Yeah, mine, too.

Brad: Thanks.

Victoria: Sure. Are you okay?

Brad: Yeah. I was just, uh, thinking that maybe I should hire a tutor for Abby. That way she could study at home, at least until this whole uproar blows over.

Victoria: Well, Bradley, she's already feeling singled out. I mean, don't you think keeping her out of school would make it that much worse?

Brad: Yeah. Yeah, you might be right. I hadn't considered that.

Victoria: You would have. You know, I really wish I could think of something to make her feel better.

Brad: Well, this, uh, little art project was a great idea.

Victoria: Yeah, well, I went through some rough things when I was Abby's age, but nothing like this.

Brad: You know, this isn't how I intended to spend our engagement. I wouldn't blame you if you gave back the ring and hightailed it out of here.

Victoria: This is what people who love each other do. They help each other through the rough spots. And once this is behind us, we'll appreciate the good times that much more.

Gloria: John, why are you so bound and determined to remember something that's only going to upset you?

John: Well, you would understand if you were missing a chunk of your life. And, you know, I am counting on you to help me jog my memory.

Gloria: Really? Well, honey, I'm not sure what I can do to help.

John: Sweetheart, we had to be together before I got in that car.

Gloria: We were, we were. We'd just gotten home from our very romantic honeymoon trip.

John: I remember that. Yeah, okay.

Gloria: Mm-hmm.

John: But... but what possessed me to go out again?

Gloria: We were hungry, and there was nothing to eat in the fridge, and you said you'd make a run to the grocery store.

John: No. That does not make sense. You're wrong. That couldn't have happened.

Paul: I'll call Scott on his cell phone.

Lauren: If she got to him...

Michael: No, we won't let that happen.

Paul: Damn it. I got his voice mail.

Lauren: Okay, let's go to the loft, then.

Michael: Come on, come on, come on, come on.

Scott: Let me go.

Sheila: I'll slit your throat. I swear to god, I'll slit it.

Scott: Why do you think I betrayed you?

Sheila: You could have called the police, have me arrested again.

Scott: Arrested? What are you talking about?

Sheila: Don't think I'm stupid. I'm--I'm not gonna let her win.

Scott: Who?

Sheila: Don't play dumb with me. You know who I'm talking about.

Scott: (Grunts) what, my mom? She hasn't won anything. She's dead.

Sheila: She's the one you love.

Scott: Yeah, that's right, I love her. Or should I say the villainess? That's what you called her in our book. I can't believe I never figured this out.

Sheila: Figured what out? I don't know what you're talking about.

Scott: That you weren't really my friend. This whole time, you were just using me. All you wanted was revenge. So what, now that my mom's dead you're coming after me?

Sheila: I don't want to hurt you. I want to destroy her.

Scott: But you already have! I know exactly who you are. Your name isn't Brenda. It's Sheila carter. You killed my mother. You murdered her!

Neil: Hey, you know what, baby?

Dru: Huh?

Neil: This looks like a college acceptance packet.

Dru: How can you tell?

Neil: Well, first of all, it's got the school logo on the upper left-hand side...

Dru: Oh, yeah.

Neil: And then it's-- it's heavy. It's a big, weighty envelope, you know?

Dru: And it's addressed to Devon Hamilton. It's not opened. Do not say a word, Neil winters.

Neil: Are you kidding me? I'm curious, too. Open it up. Come on.

Dru: Oh! "Dear Mr. Hamilton, it is with great pleasure that the university of Boston welcomes you into our class of 2010, with a full scholarship."

Neil: Let me see that. Come here.

Dru: Baby, "tuition, fees, room and board, books and required classroom supplies."

Neil: Oh, man. This is fantastic.

Dru: It's a blessing, honey. This is such an absolute blessing.

Neil: Baby, you know what? The best part of all-- this is Devon's first-choice school.

Dru: See, I didn't even know that he applied to the university of Boston.

Neil: Well, sure. Lots of kids go online and do it themselves these days. You know, I told him to turn in-- the application in early, but I had--I had no idea he'd actually done it.

Dru: What about the costs?

Neil: I told him I'd cover the cost.

Dru: Oh, baby.

Neil: I know he saved most of his pay from his summer job at Newman, you know, but, um, I don't know why he'd want to pay for it himself.

Dru: Well, maybe because he didn't want to deal with us in case he got rejected.

Neil: His test scores were way too high, baby.

Dru: Can you believe those high S.A.T. Test scores? I don't know who was more surprised, Devon or us.

Neil: I'd say he was, definitely.

Dru: This is the icing on the cake, honey. This is our boy!

Neil: Oh, I know. I am so proud of him.

Dru: Me, too.

Neil: But you know something? I do have a question, though.

Dru: What?

Neil: Why was that envelope behind the books over there?

Devon: I probably shouldn't have said that.

Yolanda: Yeah, well, but you did.

Devon: Do you think that that's weird?

Yolanda: (Chuckles) what, that you have feelings for lily?

Devon: I--you know, I've never said that to anybody before. It feels... wrong.

Yolanda: What's wrong with that, Devon? I mean, you're not related. You guys didn't grow up together. You've just been living under the same roof on account of circumstances, that's all.

Devon: Thanks, mom.

Yolanda: (Chuckles)

Devon: That helps me to hear that, a lot.

Yolanda: Yeah? You've kept this inside a long time, haven't you?

Devon: Yeah.

Yolanda: Well, don't be embarrassed, okay? And maybe now that lily's broken up with this guy, you know, maybe you can ask her out.

Devon: I wish.

Yolanda: Why do you say it like that?

Devon: 'Cause, mom, even if she did come back home, we'd still be living with her folks. You know, it's kinda hard to go out on dates.

Yolanda: Well, by the time lily gets back, you might not be living here. I've been socking away everything I can, working. Should be able to afford an apartment soon, you know, for the two of us. (Knock on door)

Devon: Really?

Dru: Excuse us. You rascal, Devon. We are so proud of you, baby.

Neil: Hey. (Laughs)

Devon: For what, guys?

Dru: "For what?" The full scholarship to the university of Boston.

Neil: How about that?

Dru: Man.

Yolanda: College?

Neil: Yeah, we're really happy for you.

Yolanda: My, oh, my. Baby, that's wonderful.

Dru: Yes, it is. Yes, it is, sweet pea. And, you know, this is a top-drawer institution. You're gonna get yourself a fine education.

Neil: Yeah. Yes, you will. Hey, but, Devon, can I ask you something? Why didn't you, uh, why didn't you tell us?

Dru: Yeah.

Devon: 'Cause I didn't want you guys to know.

Brad: I don't know what I'd do without you.

Victoria: Well, fortunately, you don't have to worry about that, because I'm not going anywhere.

Brad: (Chuckles) I wish I could tell everyone. I want the whole world to know that I'm the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

Victoria: Oh. As long as you know that.

Brad: I do.

Abby: Daddy!

Brad: What, honey? What is it? What's wrong?

Abby: I had a bad dream. Horrible monsters came and took mommy away forever.

Brad: It's okay, honey. Everything's okay. Shh.

Jack: Don't worry about Abby. She's got a whole family that loves her and wants to protect her. As far as brad's concerned, I don't know how he's gonna behave.

Ashley: Don't start bad-mouthing him. If the worst happens, he's gonna be the one that raises her. Don't forget that.

Jack: Don't even talk like that.

Ashley: How can I not?

Jack: Michael Baldwin is an excellent attorney. If this goes to trial-- and I don't think it will-- there's no way a jury will believe you're a cold-blooded murderer.

Ashley: Well, I don't have your confidence, jack. Neither does brad, actually.

Jack: You're saying he believes you're guilty?

Ashley: I don't know what he believes.

Jack: Oh, for crying out loud.

Ashley: There's a lot of evidence against me. Tom wasn't armed. So, yeah, people have doubts in their minds. I wouldn't blame you if you felt the same way.

Jack: I don't. Not for one minute, I don't. The Ashley I know would never kill another human being. For you to shoot that gun under any circumstances, there is only one possible explanation. You weren't yourself.

Gloria: All right, darling... what do you think happened?

John: I'm not sure. Why wouldn't Mrs. Martinez have gone shopping for us?

Gloria: Oh, sweetie, it was late, and you didn't want to bother her. You're very considerate that way.

John: Did I make it to the store?

Gloria: No. Apparently, you had your accident before you got there.

John: And where did it happen?

Gloria: Now what difference does that make?

John: Because if I went back to the scene of the accident, it might--

Gloria: Oh, honey, I have no idea where it happened.

John: You don't know what street it was on?

Gloria: I'm sorry.

John: The police didn't tell you?

Gloria: They probably did. But when I heard that you were in the hospital, I really wasn't listening to any details.

John: Fine. I'm gonna call the station.

Gloria: No, no. John, no. Not until you're well enough to go home. What good would it do anyway? Because you can't do anything about it till then.

John: You're probably right. But it better be soon, for Ashley's sake. You know, just the thought of-- of my beauty facing a murder charge... I just wish I could take her place.

Ashley: What does that mean, I wasn't myself?

Jack: Ash, you're one of the strongest women I know, but you've had a couple of rough patches in your life, experiences that drove you to do things you wouldn't ordinarily do.

Ashley: So what are you saying, that when the going gets tough, I have a tendency to lose my mind?

Jack: No, that is not what I mean.

Ashley: No?

Jack: Tom lied to you, he tormented Gloria for months on end, he confronted you the day of Lauren and Michael's wedding.

Ashley: Yeah, okay, so... what's your point?

Jack: You were scared to death of this man. You saw him, you had every reason to think he would attack you again. There is not a soul in the world who would blame you for snapping at that moment.

Ashley: I never thought about it quite like that. (Cell phone rings)

Ashley: Excuse me.

Ashley: Yeah, hello, victor.

Brad: No, it's brad. Listen, I'm still at the office. You need to come over here right away. Abby needs you.

Scott: You stabbed me.

Scott: You are the sickest person I have ever met. You've been hurting me ever since the day I was born. You took me away from my mother. She thought I was dead, and there you were the whole time, hiding me, pretending I was yours. It makes me sick. Thank god they figured it out so I didn't have to grow up with you as a mother.

Sheila: You think you know everything about me, Scott. You don't know how much I've suffered, the lengths I've gone to just to be here with you right now.

Scott: You tell me what you mean. Make me understand.

Sheila: When I was locked up, it was the thought of you that kept me going. It's because of you I'm still alive. No! No! Don't you-- I'm not gonna let you send me back!

Troy: Drop the weapon, now.

Brad: Here, honey. Have a little sip for daddy.

Victoria: You know, whenever I have a bad dream, I always feel so much better when I tell someone about it, from beginning to end.

Abby: You have bad dreams?

Victoria: Sometimes.

Brad: Yeah, grown-ups have nightmares, too

Ashley: Abby, honey, I'm here. Come here.

Abby: Mommy.

Ashley: Hi, sweetie. Daddy said you had a bad dream. I'm so sorry. You okay?

Victoria: I'll get going.

Brad: You don't have to.

Victoria: No, Abby needs to be with her parents right now.

Ashley: Was it a big, scary monster?

Victoria: I'll see you tomorrow.

Brad: Thanks for everything.

Ashley: Yeah?

Abby: There were monsters that took you away, and I was never gonna see you again.

Ashley: Oh, that must have been so scary.

Abby: But what if it happens for real?

Brad: Honey, mommy's here, okay there are no such thing as monsters.

Abby: I know, but mommy still might go away.

Ashley: Oh, honey, I don't want to ever leave you. I want to be with you forever.

Abby: What if you can't?

Ashley: What do you mean?

Abby: Mommy, is it true? Did you kill tom?

Gloria: Honey, you really should go back to bed.

John: I will when you leave for the chapel.

Gloria: My poor sweetheart. So many things on your mind, and there's really no need.

John: No need?

Gloria: For you to be worrying about all of this. Ashley has tons of support. And, besides, she has the best lawyer in town defending her.

John: And who might that be?

Gloria: Hmm. Michael Baldwin, of course.

John: Oh, Gloria, for goodness sakes, Michael's just lost his wife. He's not in shape to take on a big murder trial.

Gloria: I know, but Michael thrives on work. This is probably the best thing for him. It'll give him, you know, a purpose.

John: (Sighs)

Gloria: And he cares for Ashley. She is family. And he'll figure out a way to get her out of this.

John: Well, if he can't, I will.

Gloria: Don't talk like that, john. It scares me.

John: It's true. There's nothing I wouldn't do for my daughter, no sacrifice I wouldn't make.

Sheila: You're making a mistake. I haven't done anything wrong.

Scott: She stabbed me.

Troy: It's over, miss carter. Put the knife on the table. You're only gonna make things harder on yourself.

Troy: On your knees, hands behind your head.

Troy: How bad did she cut you?

Scott: It's not that bad. She's a real head case, though. It's a good thing you got here when you did.

Troy: You did the right thing, keeping your cool, getting that message to our dispatcher. We used your cell phone to trace your location. I'll get you an ambulance.

Scott: No, no, you know what? It's, um, it's all right. It's really not that bad.

Troy: Son, you need to see a doctor, get that checked out.

Scott: Yeah, yeah, I know. I will, but--but my head's just a little-- a little messed up right now. Just give me some time, all right?

Troy: I'll take miss carter down to the station. I'll get a statement from you later. Let's go.

Scott: Hey, you know what? Wait a minute. There's something I want to say to her first. All right, you listen to me. I am never gonna forgive you for what you've done to my mother. I am gonna testify against you in court, and I am gonna make sure they lock you away forever, all right? I hate you. You hear me? I can't stand the sight of you. I hate you! And I'm gonna do my best to forget I ever met you. You understand? I am not your friend! All right? And I am certainly not your son! All right, get her the hell outta here.

Neil: Y-you didn't want us to know?

Dru: What the heck is this about?

Devon: It's not such a big deal, okay?

Dru: Not a big deal?

Neil: Are you kidding me? It's a huge accomplishment.

Yolanda: Sounds like that to me.

Neil: Devon, I mean, you worked very hard on this. This is the university of Boston. This is a name school, man, lots of prestige.

Dru: Yeah, they're not trying to accept just anybody.

Neil: So why aren't you happy about this?

Devon: It's Boston, you guys. Okay? Boston. That's very far away.

Neil: Yeah. Well, it may seem like it now, but living in a dorm, meeting other kids from different parts of the country...

Dru: Right.

Neil: That's what's so great about goin' to college.

Dru: Yes, baby, and if it's about being homesick... man, you can come home spring break, winter break. You can write me, you can e-mail. I'll call you every night.

Devon: No, guys, guys, you don't get it. You don't get it, okay? I don't wanna go there.

Dru: Well, Devon! Devon.

Neil: I'll talk to him. Let me talk to him.

Dru: (Sighs) Yolanda, did you know about this?

Gloria: Oh, there you go.

John: (Sighs)

Jack: So you ready to head out?

Gloria: Yes, as soon as we get the reluctant patient back to his room.

Jack: Dad, I know you learned about Ashley.

John: Yeah, I wish my family didn't feel the need to hide it from me.

Jack: I'm sorry. You had every right to know. We had no business keeping it from you.

Ashley: You just asked me a very grown-up question. I never meant to hurt anyone.

Abby: But did you? Did tom hurt you?

Ashley: No, he didn't. But he frightened me.

Abby: Is that why you had to kill him?

Brad: Abby, sweetheart, I hate to see you dwelling on this.

Ashley: It's okay.

Abby: I have to, daddy. This is about my mommy.

Ashley: It's okay.

Abby: (Sighs) is that why you had to kill him, 'cause you were afraid of him?

Ashley: Honey, sometimes things happen, and you feel like you have no choice... and you need to protect yourself. You want to protect the people that you love.

Abby: Is it okay to kill someone if you're afraid of them?

Ashley: No, it's not.

Abby: That means you did a bad thing.

Ashley: Something bad happened, honey. I'm not gonna lie to you.

Abby: That means you're gonna go to jail.

Ashley: Well, remember what your dad and I talked to you about? There's gonna be an investigation by the police, and--

Abby: How do we know everything's gonna be all right? How do you know you won't be locked up?

Ashley: There's a small chance that that could happen, but I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure that it doesn't.

Brad: Baby, I know you're scared, but mommy is dealing with this.

Ashley: And I think everything is going to work out.

Abby: What if it doesn't? Will they take you away forever?

Ashley: Come here.

Brad: Abby, no matter what happens, we're gonna keep you safe. Nothing bad is going to happen to you.

Abby: If something bad happens to my mommy, it will.

Ashley: You listen to me. I am your mom. And that means that I'm always going to be a part of your life, always. Okay? Okay? (Knock on door)

Paul: Scott, are you in there? Scott, are you okay?

Michael: Scott, it's Michael and Paul, open up.

Scott: Yeah, guys, I'm fine. I'm fine.

Paul: We're here just to warn you that Sheila's...

Michael: Oh, my--

Paul: What the hell happened to you?

Scott: Yeah, no, I-- Sheila was here.

Michael: What? When?

Scott: Not that long ago, but it's all right, we just-- things got a little intense.

Paul: What did she do to you?

Scott: She had a knife and she cut me, but the police arrested her.

Michael: She cut-- she cut you?

Paul: Wait a minute. How did the police know she was here?

Scott: I sent a message from my cell phone to 9-1-1. And then detective Hawkins and this other cop showed up. They got her before she could escape.

Paul: They took her downtown?

Scott: Yeah. Yeah. She's not gonna be able to hurt anybody.

Paul: All right. You need to see a doctor.

Michael: Thank god.

Scott: No, Paul, really, I'm gonna be okay. It's not that bad. I'm just a little shaken up, but, um, I'll be all right by the time mom's service starts.

Paul: Uh... I'm gonna let give you guys some time to talk.

Michael: Thank you, Paul, for everything.

Scott: Yeah. Really, thanks. We'll see you at the church.

Scott: Listen, Michael, I'm--I'm really okay. I promise.

Michael: All right. Uh... that's good news. And, uh, this seems to be a day for good news.

Scott: What are you talking about? Listen, Michael, after what I just went through with that psycho bitch, I think I can handle pretty much whatever you throw at me.

Lauren: You sure can, sweetheart.

Lauren: Aren't you gonna say anything?

Michael: (Chuckles)

Scott: How... mom...

Lauren: I'm here. I'm alive.

Michael: You're not seeing things. She's alive.

Scott: Oh, my god. You're alive?

Lauren: Yes.

Scott: You're alive?

Lauren: Yes. (Laughs) oh, sweetie. Oh, god.

Next on "the young and the restless"...

Neil: Are you gonna let your mother stand in the way of your entire future?

Kevin: One other thing I wanted to say. It's about Mackenzie.

Lauren: I want to see Sheila for myself.

Michael: No.
