Bobby: This thing that's going on with Nikki, it seems that it involves me personally. I don't get it. Why me? Why is she so determined to do all this for me? Is there something I don't know, 'cause it just seems strange, don't you think?

Victor: Oh. Did you tell her how you feel?

Bobby: Yeah, till I'm blue in the face. But something's not right. She's done too much already, with all the help she's given me down at the club and then letting me and Brittany stay here, and she keeps wanting to do more.

Victor: You mean like paying for the remodeling of your condo.

Bobby: Exactly. She acts like she owes me something. Why would Nikki feel that way?

Brad: Morning.

Ashley: Hi.

Brad: We the only ones here?

Ashley: Yeah, but we're both kind of early.

Brad: Well, actually, I'm glad we have a few minutes alone. We really didn't get a chance at Christmas.

Ashley: Yeah, me, too. It meant a lot to Abby. She had a lot of fun, huh, singing Christmas carols, opening her presents?

Brad: Yeah. I'm glad we were able to make the holiday special for her.

Ashley: I don't know about you, but I'm not looking forward to this meeting.

Brad: We have a lot to discuss.

Ashley: Yeah, and none of it good. I can't believe how bad things have gotten. I mean, jabot was barely hanging on and now with this fire...

Brad: We're going to have to make some very painful choices, ash.

Ashley: I'm worried about my dad. This is gonna be really hard on him.

Brad: Yeah, I know. But whatever we decide, he has to be part of it.

Gloria: Actually, you're wrong. He doesn't need to be a part of this.

Ashley: What the hell are you doing here?

Gloria: I came here to straighten you both out before you put John in an early grave.

Jill: I'm sure Katherine will be down soon. I suppose I know the reason you're here.

Jack: I'm going to accept her job offer.

Jill: The new C.E.O. of Chancellor Industries.

Jack: Look, I know you're upset that she didn't offer the position to you.

Jill: You're damn right I'm upset.

Jack: I'm hoping that you will come onboard and work with me.

Jill: Doing what?

Jack: Anything you like. You name the title. I cannot imagine starting this without you by my side.

Jill: I'm touched, but I doubt that Katherine would approve.

Jack: Still no thawing in the mother-daughter wars, huh?

Jill: She chose you, Jack. She didn't give me a moment's consideration.

Jack: And you're taking that personally.

Jill: Of course I'm taking it personally. This was pure vindictiveness on her part to punish me for ruining her life.

Jack: It has never occurred to you that perhaps my experience of a chief executive of a major corporation had something to do with it? You have none of that experience.

Jill: I know, but she could have given me the chance to learn.

Jack: It's too important a position for on-the-job training. Besides, I told you. I want you to work with me.

Jill: Well, I think that Katherine would veto that if for nothing more than spite, okay? What, Jack?

Jack: If things are that contentious between you two, what are you doing living in this house? Why not just pack up and move out?

Daniel: Hey.

Kevin: Hey, man. Haven't seen you in awhile.

Daniel: Yeah. So how was your Christmas?

Kevin: It was okay. We were over at the ranch on Christmas Eve. They had this party thing for Michael.

Daniel: Seriously?

Kevin: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: Dude, you should have come by the tack house.

Kevin: Right. I'm sure your mom would have loved that. What's new with you?

Daniel: Frustrated as ever.

Kevin: Why? What's going on?

Daniel: You know I told you how hot the girls are at Walnut Grove, right?

Kevin: Yeah, only about a thousand times.

Daniel: Well, I'm not kidding, man. They're incredible. I mean, if I wanted to, I could be getting some major action.

Kevin: So what's the problem?

Daniel: Mac. Mac is the problem. I can't get her out of my head. I mean, it's getting ridiculous. Here I am surrounded by all these babes, and I'm passing up all these opportunities. You know, it was never like this in Switzerland. I mean, there I was kind of a legend.

Kevin: Must have been rough.

Daniel: There's gotta be something I can do to make it work with Mac, but what?

Kevin: Why don't you do the smart thing? Give up.

J.T.: Oh, it's your birthday. I forgot about that.

Colleen: It's no big deal. Don't worry about it.

J.T.: So 18, huh?

Colleen: Yep.

J.T.: That's a pretty big one.

Colleen: I know.

J.T.: How do you feel?

Colleen: Honestly? A little strange. I mean, I'm actually an adult now. Can you believe it?

J.T.: Wow. Well, anyway, happy birthday. I wish I would have remembered. I would have got you something.

Colleen: Well, you know, the day's not over yet.

J.T.: What are you suggesting?

Colleen: I don't know, maybe a shopping spree at Fenmore's.

J.T.: Oh, right, right. Well, Paul doesn't pay me that much.

Colleen: Hey, I talked to Billy on the phone the other day, and he said Brittany married Bobby Marsino. Is that really true?

J.T.: Yeah, unfortunately. I didn't actually think she'd be able to say the words "I do," but somehow she got them out.

Colleen: You almost seem sad about that.

Jill: Are you suggesting that I give Katherine the satisfaction of driving me out of my own house? No, I'd rather slit my wrists.

Jack: I am simply saying if things are that miserable around here--

Jill: Well, the holidays sure were.

Jack: Well, why didn't you come spend Christmas with us? You were invited, you know?

Jill: I know and I really appreciate that, but the truth is I didn't feel like celebrating anyplace.

Jack: Wow. That gloomy, huh?

Jill: Jack, you know how much I was looking forward to the holidays, with my family reunited and my mother and father finally married. Then Arthur left, and of course Katherine blamed me. I don't wanna talk about this. It's just making me feel worse.

Jack: You know the day will come you and your mother will mend fences.

Jill: I think that's impossible because where I'm concerned, Katherine has reverted to the miserable old harpy she used to be. I have a board meeting at jabot and I'm gonna go before Katherine comes downstairs.

Jack: Okay, but remember one thing-- as long as I am in charge, there is a place for you at Chancellor Industries.

Jill: You are my angel. Thanks for making me feel wanted.

Kay: And the spider just chased Miss Muffet away.

Jack: Well, I would hardly call you a spider, Katherine. Maybe a rare butterfly.

Kay: Oh, you're too kind. All right now, what, um, what brings you out in this chilly weather when you should be home toasting your feet in front of a cozy fire?

Jack: Well, I have some news for you.

Kay: Good news?

Jack: Suppose you tell me. I've decided to accept your offer to head up Chancellor Industries.

Ashley: Where's my father?

Gloria: At home in bed.

Ashley: Is he not feeling well?

Gloria: He isn't ill, at least not physically.

Ashley: I don't understand. What are you talking about?

Gloria: Well, of course you don't 'cause you have no idea what this is doing to him. John is terrified of losing his company. He's so depressed he can hardly speak.

Ashley: Oh, for Peteís sake.

Brad: This isn't our fault, Gloria. Jabot's taken a lot of hits recently.

Ashley: We're trying very hard to fix things.

Gloria: Well, can't you do that without involving your father?

Ashley: He's the chairman and the founder of the company, Gloria.

Gloria: I know that, but he can't take all this stress. It's not good for him.

Ashley: Look, this is a very complicated situation. You don't begin to comprehend all the details. Please excuse us. We have to get back to work.

Gloria: Look, I may not have gone to some fancy college, but I'm not stupid. Now there must be something you can do to turn things around. Have some kind of sale or, I don't know, invent a new product, something everybody will love.

Ashley: Oh, why didn't we think of that?

Brad: Listen, while we appreciate your input, Gloria, it's really not quite that simple.

Gloria: Well, maybe you're just not trying hard enough.

Ashley: I beg your pardon?

Gloria: Well, look at the two of you, standing there like a couple of bumps on a log. What good will that do? If you really wanna save Jabot, you'll stop crying and roll up your sleeves.

Ashley: Would you just shut up?

Gloria: What?

Ashley: Shut up.

Gloria: I beg your pardon?

Ashley: This is none of your business, Gloria. If you're so worried about my dad, go back home and take care of him instead of standing here and making an idiot out of yourself.

Brad: Ash--

Ashley: No, she's driving me up the wall.

Gloria: Well, I don't know what I did to deserve this.

Ashley: Maybe you were able to worm your way into my family, but that doesn't give you the right to stand here and start issuing orders. I will deal with my father as I see fit. If that doesn't work for you, too bad.

Gloria: Guess that's my cue to leave.

Ashley: Smartest thing I've ever heard you say.

John: No, you stay right here. And, you, you will not talk to my wife that way ever again. Do you hear me?

Gloria: John, what are you doing here?

John: I decided to attend the meeting.

Gloria: I'm not sure that that's a good idea.

John: Hush now. I will be fine. After all, it's my company that's dying, and the least I could do is attend the funeral.

J.T.: Yeah, well, I guess I am kind of sad for Brittany. I mean, she's my friend, you know? I don't think Bobby Marsino's the right guy for her, never have.

Colleen: But it was her choice. I mean, obviously she loves him. What, you don't think she loves him?

J.T.: Why are we talking about Brittany?

Colleen: Well, what do you wanna talk about?

J.T.: You, it's your birthday. Let's go do something to celebrate, all right?

Colleen: What did you have in mind?

J.T.: I don't know. Let's go to the athletic club and work out.

Colleen: You're kidding, right?

J.T.: No. Come on, what do you say?

Colleen: I say it's not exactly my idea of fun.

J.T.: What? We used to do it all the time.

Colleen: Yeah, but not on my birthday.

J.T.: All right, all right. Tell you what. I will, uh, I'll buy you a protein bar with, like, 18 candles when we're done working out, okay? What do you say? Let's do it.

Colleen: What is with you?

J.T.: Nothing.

Colleen: You're just acting all strange all of a sudden.

J.T.: You know, I think you're getting senile in your old age. Now come on, go get your stuff, old lady. I'll help you to the car, all right? Hurry up.

Colleen: Okay, you weirdo.

Daniel: That's your brilliant advice, that I should just give up on Mac?

Kevin: She's obviously not into you.

Daniel: Only because she's still hung up on the age-difference thing. I just gotta find a way to get through to her and let her see that it's only a number.

Kevin: Well, that's deep, man. I'm getting all choked up.

Daniel: You know, what do you know anyway? You're the one who's supposed to be helping me get close to her. That's the last time I count on you to be my wingman.

Kevin: Don't blame me. I tried my best, but she thinks of you as a friend. Trust me on this, once a woman says that, forget it.

Daniel: There's gotta be something I can do, man. I don't know, like some kind of way of wearing her down a little bit. I don't know, maybe I...

Kevin: What?

Daniel: Look who's here.

Kevin: Oh...

Gloria: Sweetheart, are you sure you wanna stay here for this?

John: Yes, yes, I felt I should be here.

Gloria: Well, I'm sure Ashley can fill you in later. Come on, why don't we get out of here and we'll spend the day together, hmm?

John: You know what? I just love the way you look out for me, but I will be fine.

Ashley: Dad, excuse me, we're ready to start.

John: All right, you go on. I'll meet you back at the house, okay?

Gloria: All right.

John: Bye.

Gloria: Bye, all. Ashley.

Ashley: Bye-bye.

John: All right, let's get this over with. Who wants to start?

Brad: I will. I've checked in with our retailers out west. The situation's worse than we feared.

Jill: How much worse?

Brad: Well, I don't have to tell all of you how devastating it was, losing the distribution center in Bakersfield. Stores out there already had low inventory and that-- Nikki?

Nikki: I'm sorry. What did you say?

Brad: Are you with us?

Nikki: Yes, I'm listening. Go ahead.

Brad: Maybe this would be a good time for you to go over the revised fourth quarter earnings.

Nikki: Okay. Um, let's see. I, um... I met with Morgan Sherwood from finance, and he mentioned to me that, um...

Jill: Nikki, are you all right?

Nikki: No, I'm fine. I lost my train of thought for a second. Let me see, where was I?

Ashley: Is there someplace else you'd rather be? This is the most important meeting this company will ever have. If you can't be here alert and contribute, maybe you should leave.

John: Ashley--

Ashley: No, I'm not trying to be harsh, honestly. The future of this company is at stake and so is your $35 million. Doesn't that mean anything to you?

Nikki: You know what? I can't do this. Brad, could you please take care of this report? John, I'm giving you my proxy. I can't do this right now.

Brad: Nikki--

Nikki: I'm sorry. I just-- I can't be here for this. Excuse me, please.

Kevin: How long are you gonna keep staring at Mac?

Daniel: Can't help it, man. Look at her. I mean, she's--she's beautiful.

Kevin: You don't have to tell me that.

Daniel: Kevin, what's going on with you?

Kevin: Nothing.

Daniel: Oh, I get it.

Kevin: What?

Daniel: Don't give me "what." What, do you think I'm blind? You think I can't see what's going on here? You're trying to poach on my territory.

Kevin: Newsflash, Daniel-- Mac is not your territory.

Daniel: So you don't deny it? You know, no wonder why you haven't been trying to help me out with her. You just want her for yourself.

Kevin: I do not.

Daniel: Oh, really. So you're telling me you don't like her whatsoever? Do you wanna look me in the eye and lie to my face? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Kevin: Look, it's not like I'm hung up on her or anything. I just, I don't know, I kind of like her. Well, what do you expect? You ask me to chat up this beautiful, sweet girl, say all these things to her to make her smile and--

Daniel: Yeah, only not about me, right? You know what, man? Whatever. I don't even really care.

Kevin: You don't?

Daniel: You know what? Don't get me wrong, this totally bites 'cause you're supposed to be my friend, but you know what? I-I just have more important things that I have to think about right now.

Kevin: You're talking about this thing with your mom?

Daniel: Whatever, man. I'm out of here.

Kevin: Where are you going? I'll come with.

Daniel: No, you know what? You stay here. I'm sure that you and you-know-who would love to have a little alone time together.

Mac: Hey, Daniel.

Daniel: Hey. Uh, I need to go. I'll see you later.

Mac: What's Danielís problem? All right, thanks.

Paul: Whoa!

Nikki: Oh, I'm sorry.

Paul: Hey, it's okay.

Nikki: Paul, I'm sorry.

Paul: I guess you're in a hurry, huh?

Nikki: Yeah.

Paul: Is everything okay? Obviously not.

Nikki: I just--I've had a horrible morning, okay?

Paul: Does this have to do with Bobby?

Nikki: Yes.

Paul: Let's go out there.

Paul: Right here. Did you decide to talk to Bobby? Nikki, did you tell him?

Nikki: No, I can never tell him. He can never know that his brother is dead.

Paul: Why not?

Nikki: Because Bobby thinks of Joshua as being alive.

Paul: What?

Nikki: That's how Bobby got through everything that happened with his family. Why would I destroy that?

Victor: Why are you asking me these questions, Bobby? You should be asking my wife.

Bobby: Well, I have asked her, but I don't get a straight answer. She just says she wants to help. Every time that I tell her to stop, she keeps wanting to do more. That's why I think somehow, whatever's going on, I'm connected to. Maybe I'm part of the problem.

Victor: Hmm.

Bobby: Like, look, after I turned down her offer to pay for repairs to my condo, she offers to buy the club for a hundred grand. Nikki tell you that?

Victor: Yes, she did mention it. Right.

Bobby: Victor, its way over the top. She's seen the books. She knows that the place is just barely hanging on. It's like she's just trying to throw money at me, and, no, I ain't taking it.

Kay: Oh, Jack, my darling, you have no idea how pleased I am.

Jack: I have given this a great deal of thought, Katherine, and I think it's a good move for both of us.

Kay: Oh, hey, hey, I could not have made a better choice.

Jack: I wanna be very clear about something, though, upfront.

Kay: All right, mm-hmm.

Jack: I want carte blanche running this company. I want to run things there as I see fit.

Kay: Well, no argument from me.

Jack: I will want your input, your guidance from time to time when I'm unfamiliar with certain things.

Kay: Oh, well, yes, of course. At least this time I'm not going to make the mistake of employing someone who is going to embezzle the company funds.

Jack: Katherine, we all make mistakes.

Kay: Oh, yes, we do, don't we? Well, when I hired Elliot Hampton, I made one doozy of a mistake. Jack, I trusted a man I knew nothing about.

Jack: Well, now you've gone to the other extreme. You've hired somebody you know too much about.

Kay: Well, I won't hold that against you. Oh, Jack, Jack, oh... I cannot tell you the burden that you have lifted from these shoulders. I can--I can actually sleep at night with you at the helm.

Jack: I want you to know I will not let you down, Katherine.

Kay: There's one condition, and it's nonnegotiable.

Jack: And what is that?

Kay: Jill, she is not to be involved in my company whatsoever, not at all.

Brad: So that's the situation we're faced with. We're hemorrhaging money in every division, and it's only going to get worse as we move into the New Year.

Jill: And servicing the debt we already have is killing us.

Ashley: Which means borrowing is out of the question.

John: Which also means we have to protect ourselves against our creditors.

Ashley: So we're talking chapter 11. We're have to file for bankruptcy.

Jill: Oh, my God, what a horrible word that is.

Ashley: Yeah, it is a horrible word. But either we do that, keep the wolves at bay and restructure things, or we just lock the doors to this place for good.

Jill: "This place" has been going downhill ever since you fired Jack.

Ashley: Oh, no, not with that again.

Brad: Jill, what are you talking about? We were in deep trouble long before Jack left.

Jill: You chose Victor's money over your most valuable asset, and now you're worse off than you were before.

John: Jill, I don't appreciate your bringing up ancient history. What's important right now is us to concentrate on the here and the now.

Jill: I will never understand why you went along with that, John.

John: Damn it, Jill, stop it! This is hard enough for all of us without you laying guilt on everyone in this room.

Jill: I have every right to speak my mind. I have as much interest in this company as anybody else.

Ashley: Then why the hell haven't you done anything to save it?

Jill: Well, now I could ask you the same thing, Ashley. He's just feelin' a little young these days.

Mac: Okay. Whatever that means.

Kevin: He'll get over it with time. Get it? Well, have a seat. Unless, uh, there's somewhere you need to go.

Mac: No, I can stay for a little while.

Kevin: Great. So how have you been?

Mac: I'm okay.

Kevin: You sure? You don't seem okay.

Mac: There's something on my mind. It's dumb, but it's still bugging me.

Kevin: Well, what is it? Maybe I can help.

Mac: Its J.T. things were going great. He asked me out on another date, I moved back in, but... I was thinking we were headed somewhere, and then he asked me to help him plan this birthday party.

Kevin: Who is it for?

Mac: His old girlfriend Colleen. She's back from New York.

Victor: I think all my wife wants to do, Bobby, is to make your life a little better.

Bobby: Yeah, and I told her it doesn't fly. She's making me feel like some kind of wounded animal.

Victor: Is that what you said to her?

Bobby: Yeah. That was the day that you came back. She broke down and told me that all she was trying to do was help and that she was making things worse, and then she just started cryin' her eyes out. I didn't know what to do, so I just gave her a hug.

Victor: And that's when I walked in?

Bobby: Yeah. I can only imagine what you thought. If I was in your shoes, I woulda thought the same thing.

Victor: For your information, I realize now that I was wrong about that assumption.

Bobby: Thanks. Does this make any sense to you?

Victor: Yes, Bobby, it does.

Bobby: Well, can you explain it to me? Look, Victor, something's goin' on here, and this is makin' me crazy.

Paul: You think Bobby really believes, in his heart of hearts, that his brother is out there alive somewhere?

Nikki: Paul, he was heartbroken. He made up that whole scenario as a child. He never thought of his brother as dead.

Paul: Right, of course, because they never found a body.

Nikki: Because my father buried him. And if I take that fantasy away from him, even now as an adult, it'll devastate him.

Paul: Okay, so fine. Let's--let's say that Bobby never finds out. Can you live with that? Can you just drop this and put it out of your mind?

Nikki: I don't know. I don't know.

Paul: So how are you supposed to find closure? You have to think of yourself here, you know?

Nikki: I don't have the right to do that after what I have done. I might just carry this inside forever. I don't know, but if I tell him about this, it will completely destroy his life, and I'm not gonna do that to him, not again.

Paul: Nikki, I'm wondering if something else is going on here.

Nikki: What do you mean? Like what?

Paul: With respect to Bobby, something more than-- than feelings of guilt and remorse.

Nikki: This isn't some little transgression. When I killed his brother, I destroyed his family.

Paul: Come on, Nikki, there's something more to this. There is. I can see it in you. I mean, so he finds out about it, he gets upset, angry, he gets over it, he moves on, he's a stable guy. This isn't adding up. What's at stake for you?

Nikki: I just... I don't want him to think less of me.

Paul: So what if he does?

Nikki: I wouldn't be willing to live with that, all right? Why is that so hard for you to understand? God.

Paul: Nikki... how deep are your feelings for this man?

John: All right, let's get back to the matter at hand.

Ashley: For your information, Jill, I'm doing everything I can to help this company.

Jill: Really? Such as?

Ashley: I spoke with Victor. I asked him to make an exception to our agreement and let Jack come back and help us through this difficult period.

Brad: You did?

Ashley: Yeah, a few days ago.

Brad: You went crawling to Victor? Why would you give him the satisfaction? He's the reason we're in this mess in the first place.

Ashley: I felt somebody had to do something.

John: And what did Mr. Newman say?

Ashley: He doesn't think that Jack is the answer to our problems. Frankly, I don't either.

John: Mm-hmm.

Jill: Well, he may not be the answer to your problems, but apparently Chancellor Industries feels differently, 'cause he's over at Katherineís right now accepting the C.E.O. position.

Ashley: Oh.

Brad: Is there anything else we need to discuss?

John: No, I think we've covered everything.

Brad: All right, then I'll talk to our lawyers and get something prepared to take to a judge.

Ashley: Once the creditors get wind of this, what a mess this is gonna be.

John: Publicity's going to get very ugly. I hope you're all prepared.

J.T.: Let's get a water. You want to?

Colleen: Okay.

J.T.: What are you looking for?

Colleen: Why did you bring me here?

J.T.: To work out.

Colleen: No. I know that there is something up your sleeve.

J.T.: Oh, God, not this again.

Colleen: Oh, my gosh, I figured it out. You're throwing me a surprise party.

J.T.: A surprise party? Wow. Now what would make you think that?

Colleen: Because I know you. This whole "forgetting my birthday" thing, that was just an act just to fake me out.

J.T.: Ooh, where you gettin' all this?

Colleen: Where is everybody? Did you reserve the founder's room?

J.T.: The founder's room. Now that is pretty presumptuous. I mean, you been in town a couple of days. Like I would even have time to plan something like that...

Colleen: Mnh-mnh.

J.T.: Even if I had remembered your birthday.

Colleen: Can't fool me, J.T., because I'm smart. Just admit it, we're here for my party.

J.T.: You got me. You got me. God. I'm throwin' you a surprise party.

Colleen: Aha! I knew it.

J.T.: I can't believe you figured it out. Look, your, uh, your first guests are actually already here. Thank you so much for coming. I really appreciate it. And I'm sure I don't have to introduce you to the guest of honor Colleen.

Colleen: I'm sorry. He's mentally challenged.

J.T.: What? Um, we'll be right back.

Colleen: You're really embarrassing me.

J.T.: What? Those are your guests. That's your party. You're being really rude.

Colleen: (Laughs)

J.T.: Sorry. Drinks are on me.

Kevin: Colleen is in town?

Mac: Yeah, why?

Kevin: She's someone else who doesn't like me too much.

Mac: How come?

Kevin: Some stuff happened.

Mac: What kind of stuff?

Kevin: Mnh-mnh.

Mac: It was that bad?

Kevin: Well, a lot of people thought so. But that's the kind of guy I am. All I seem to do is attract negative attention.

Mac: I really wish you wouldn't say stuff like that.

Kevin: It's true.

Mac: Well, you know what I think? People feel that way because they don't know the real you.

Kevin: I did do some bad stuff, Mac. I admit that. But I've changed so much, I feel like I'm not even the same guy. And it gets hard sometimes, you know? Always fighting the negative image people have of me. I hate it.

Mac: I'll tell you what I think.

Kevin: What?

Mac: All that rotten karma that you had in the past, it's in the past. And to me, you seem like a really sweet and caring guy. I'm glad that we're friends.

Kevin: You mean that?

Mac: Of course I mean that.

Kevin: Well, you know what I think?

Mac: What?

Kevin: I think that you might be the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Kevin: Can I give you some advice?

Mac: Yes.

Kevin: Okay, about Colleen's party...

Mac: Mm-hmm.

Kevin: If you don't feel like doing it, then don't do it. If J.T. gets bugged, so what? It's his ex-girlfriend, right?

Mac: I don't know if I can blow him off like that.

Kevin: Well, it's your decision. All I know is I would never put you in a situation like that. Um, all right, I should get goin'.

Mac: Are you heading home?

Kevin: No, I'm gonna head over to the athletic club, work out for awhile.

Mac: Oh.

Kevin: My brother's a member there. Got some guest passes if you want to join me.

Mac: No, no, that's okay.

Kevin: You sure?

Mac: Yeah.

Kevin: Might help you clear away the cobwebs.

Mac: You know what? On second thought, that might be the perfect thing for me.

Kevin: Great. We could stop by your apartment, pick up your stuff.

Mac: Okay.

Kevin: And maybe if you want to get some lunch afterwards, my treat.

Mac: Yeah, that sounds good.

Kevin: Great.

Jack: Katherine, may I ask you a personal question?

Kay: Yes, of course you can.

Jack: Why are you so adamant about Jill not being involved in chancellor industries? She is, after all, your daughter.

Kay: Jack, that carries no weight with me, not now, not after what she has done.

Jack: Come on, Katherine, is that being fair? You're really holding Jillís personal mistakes against her considerable experience as a business woman?

Kay: My decision is firm. I've already told you that.

Jack: I'm just saying she'd be a great asset during the transition.

Kay: Did you not hear me? It is nonnegotiable.

Jack: Katherine, if I may--

Kay: Wait now, please. I don't want to discuss this any further. Now, young man, you either want this job or you do not. And it is the opportunity of a lifetime. And you would be doing me a great honor if you said yes, if, that is, you accept my terms.

Jack: All right. You are the boss. I accept your terms. Jill will not tread the hallowed halls of Chancellor Industries, though I would like it on record, I think you're making a mistake.

Kay: You give me your word?

Jack: You have my word.

Kay: Good. Welcome aboard. Oh, Jack. I think this calls for a toast. In fact, I will go and get us some champagne.

Jack: W--champagne?

Kay: Without the "pain."

Brad: Ash, we're gonna get through this. Everything will be okay.

Ashley: You don't know that. Maybe this is the beginning of the end. (Sighs) everything my father worked for, the company he built... maybe we're gonna lose everything.

Brad: Don't assume Jabot can't survive this. Many companies have come back from a chapter 11 filing to be very successful. This will give us an opportunity to do just that.

Ashley: Yeah, maybe. How did I let this happen?

Brad: You didn't let it happen. It's not your fault.

Ashley: Well, then whose fault is it? I'm an Abbott. My father trusted me to protect this company, and I let him down. I let everyone down.

Paul: Nikki, whatever your feelings for Bobby, you have to figure out some way so you can deal with this.

Nikki: I know. I know!

Paul: Look... I gotta go to work. I don't want to leave you here--

Nikki: No, it's fine. Go ahead.

Paul: Can I give you a ride home?

Nikki: No, no, thank you.

Paul: You sure?

Nikki: Thank you. I... I'm glad we talked. It helped.

Paul: Anytime.

Nikki: You know, I just... I just wanted to find Charles Cassen so badly so I could tell him, so I could bring him closure, you know? But now I know that telling him will just devastate him. He can never know about this. I'm not gonna tell him. That's just the way it has to be.

Victor: So you have no idea what my wife is talking about?

Bobby: No, not a clue.

Victor: You're right about your feelings, Bobby. Nikki is indeed carrying something around with her that involves you.

Bobby: Well, why won't she tell me?

Victor: Because she's afraid.

Bobby: She's afraid of what?

Victor: Of how you might react.

Bobby: That's ridiculous.

Victor: Perhaps you should talk to my wife one more time.

Bobby: No, no, no. Victor, if there is something that I should know, maybe you should tell me because I don't think Nikkiís goin' to.

Victor: All right, Bobby, if you insist, I will tell you.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Malcolm: I need you to tell me as a doctor.

Olivia: If I can.

Bobby: How could Nikki have had anything to do with my brother?

Kevin: I heard you were back. How are you?

Colleen: Get away from me.
