[Knock on door]
Nicholas: Dad, it's not a good time.Victor: We need to talk, son.
Nicholas: Let's do it later.
Victor: Later won't work. I've talked to Sharon. She told me that you are about to send the children down and you are separating.
Nicholas: They will be here any minute, if you don't mind.
Victor: No, son. You're going to hear me out. I want you to reconsider this. I want you to think this through.
Nicholas: I've already done that.
Victor: You have not. If you really thought this through, you wouldn't be doing this. Do you know what this will do to the kids?
Nicholas: Are you on Sharonís side?
Victor: How can you say that? I'm on the side of your family.
Nicholas: Dad, what the hell is so bad about staying with a woman that's obsessed with another man?
Sharon: Hi, sweetheart.
Sharon: I need you and your brother to come down to the house with me. Your dad is waiting for us.
Cassie: Why? What's wrong?
Sharon: Where's your brother, with Miguel?
Cassie: Mom, answer me. Something's wrong. It's about you and Dad, isn't it?
Cassie: I heard you and Dad talking downstairs. You sounded mad at each other. And then you pretend everything is okay in front of Noah and me.
Sharon: So sorry we worried you.
Cassie: It's something bad, isn't it? I know it. Mom, tell me what's going on.
Sharon: That's why your father and I want to talk to you now so we can explain what's happening.
Diane: Your secretary wasn't at her desk.
Jack: Then you heard.
Diane: About the indictment? Yes, I did. I know how hard this must be for you; to believe that Phyllis did this. Jack, you have to realize the grand jury wouldn't have taken those steps without good reason.
Jack: Is there a point to this visit?
Diane: I'm wondering what happens next.
Jack: I think we all are.
Diane: Has Phyllis' bail been revoked?
Jack: Unless this is about Kyle.
Diane: That's why I'm asking, because of our son. Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but I am frightened of your wife. I am frightened for you being around her. I feel I have every reason to worry she will come after me again which means our son --
Jack: You're right, I don't want to hear this from you or anyone else.
Michael: Oh, no.
Michael: Talk to me.
Phyllis: What is there to say? My life is over. I'm going to prison and my husband thinks I'm a murderer.
Michael: Jack said that.
Phyllis: He doesn't believe me. Can you believe that? Honestly, I don't know whether to cry or break something. I swear I don't know what I would do really.
Michael: Well, I am here. Why don't you tell me what happened.
Phyllis: She's won. Oh, my God, Michael, Dianeís won.
Lily: I am not going to stay in this stupid hellhole and go to school. Maybe it's what you want but it's not going to happen.
Neil: Not only do I want to you stay, you are staying.
Lily: That is so not fair.
Neil: If this was a negotiation that might be true. Your mother and I are doing what's best for you.
Lily: What's best is me going back to Paris.
Neil: I know about the way you've been behaving lately.
Lily: Oh, great.
Neil: It seems there's strong evidence to support the fact that Paris isn't the best environment for you.
Lily: Damn it. I can't believe Mom told you about that.
Neil: You see? You're swearing. That word, damn, isn't going to work.
Lily: She shouldn't have gotten into all of that with you.
Neil: I need to know what's going on. Now that I do, I can see you're not coming from a very good place.
Lily: You know all about that, wouldn't you?
Wesley: You're going to put Lily to school here?
Drucilla: Yes. My nephew goes to the same academy. She thinks she's running the show but she's not. I have news for her.
Wesley: Who is?
Drucilla: Excuse me?
Wesley: Whose idea was this?
Drucilla: I couldn't have possibly come up with this idea, right? I'm an irresponsible mother.
Wesley: Come on, Dru, I would never say that. I'm surprised you would make a decision like this.
Drucilla: Without consulting with you first, is that what you mean?
Wesley: You're not answering my question.
Drucilla: It's Neilís idea and I'm going with it because I think he's right.
Neil: You know, Lily, we all make mistakes. The people that look at their mistakes stand and take responsibility for them. Those are the true winners in life. That is what I am doing.
Lily: This is so stupid. It's not a big deal.
Neil: Getting in with the wrong crowd is so stupid and it is a very big deal.
Lily: My friends are great.
Neil: I'm sure they are when they're not defacing other people's property.
Lily: It was art.
Neil: Art, huh?
Lily: Yes. Some of it was really beautiful. Mom had to make a federal case out of it.
Neil: Paying for damage you didn't cause has a way of making people upset.
Lily: There's no point you talking to me about it. Mom has until she was blue in the face and I still don't agree with her.
Neil: About graffiti or what?
Lily: About anything. She drives me nuts. She doesn't even try to understand.
Neil: You know, Lily, just listening to you re-affirms. I understand. You have to admit you have a problem. Young lady, you have a very big problem.
Victor: Son, I don't mean to seem insensitive. I know the problems between you and Sharon are sensitive indeed. You are escalating to a level which is very difficult to come back.
Nicholas: Well, I'm doing what I need to do. I need some space or things will explode, and they're already out of hand.
Victor: To be honest with you, I know Grace Turner was in town.
Nicholas: You know what I'm talking about. I need you to back off.
Victor: The more I'm listening to you, you're not thinking about the consequences for your family.
Nicholas: Tell me how to handle this. What would you do if you were in my shoes, Dad? Would you play nice and pretend nothing happened? And what, for the kids' sake? Did you and Mom do that when you and Mom were having problems when I was young? No, you took off.
Victor: Yeah, I did. I've regretted that all my life. Don't you make the same mistakes with your kids that your mother and I made with you.
Nicholas: I already said this to Mom. The reason I'm doing this is to hold my family together.
Victor: How can you hold your family together by separating from them?
Nicholas: It's my logic. It's not yours or Momís and certainly not Sharonís. I don't need any more do as I say, not as I do, stuff from you.
Nikki: I'm sorry. I didn't know the two of you were in the middle of something.
Victor: Hey, hi, sweetheart. Noah. How are you two doing? Nice to see you. Well, I have to be going, all right? Nice to see you.
Nikki: Have you heard?
Victor: About our son's approach to salvaging his marriage? I just came from the house. They are about to sit the kids down and break the news to them.
Nikki: God, I just can't believe they're going through this again.
Victor: They shouldn't go through it. They have everything.
Nikki: Except trust, evidently.
Victor: I told our boy that running away from his problems is a coward's way out.
Nikki: Sounds like you took a pretty hard line with him.
Victor: Those two should be making every effort to salvage what they have.
Nikki: I agree. At the same time I can see why Nicholas needs to get some distance from that woman? If anyone is to blame it's Sharon.
Victor: Sweetheart, that's what you hear from our son.
Victor: You know there's more than one side to a story.
Nikki: That's right. I think there's more to this story than you know.
Diane: The woman is still out there, a loose cannon.
Jack: You know, I don't think you and I should discuss Phyllis.
Diane: You believe she's innocent.
Jack: Next topic.
Diane: I'm sorry. I don't mean to upset you. It's just that I care about you. And it hurts me to see what this is doing for you.
Jack: Well, this has been a difficult time, Diane, for everyone.
Diane: I'm sure a part of you blames me.
Jack: For what?
Diane: For all the hostility with Phyllis. I regret every minute of it.
Jack: Well, join the club.
Diane: I realize there were times, many times, that I might have aggravated the situation. We're both trying to live together.
Jack: It was absolute insanity.
Diane: Believe me, if I had known then how far Phyllis would go, I would have bent over backwards to keep things peaceful.
Michael: Without seeing that video surveillance tape that sounds like a pretty damning piece of evidence.
Phyllis: Yeah. Now do you believe me when I said I was set up?
Michael: I didn't say I didn't believe you. All that's important is what a jury believes.
Phyllis: A grand jury believes I'm guilty and my husband believes I'm guilty.
Michael: Did Jack say those words?
Phyllis: No, no, on the contrary. He said "I believe you."
Michael: What's the problem?
Phyllis: He said the words. He formed the sounds. That's all it was, words coming out of his mouth. That's how much faith my loving husband has in me.
Michael: What did Silva have to say?
Phyllis: Oh, Silva? Heís just has a barrel of good news.
Michael: This is a little predicament here.
Phyllis: It's a predicament, that's right.
Michael: What was the next step?
Phyllis: My attorney said shipping me off to prison and throwing away the key.
Michael: Be serious.
Phyllis: You think I'm joking?
Michael: Just calm down!
Phyllis: You calm down! My entire life is on the line! Don't think that this wasn't Dianeís scheme, okay? Don't think that this isn't her plan to get me out of the picture so she can get her hooks into my husband while I'm convicted.
Michael: Phyllis, sweetheart --
Phyllis: Don't Phyllis, honey, sweetheart, baby me, okay? I know what I'm talking about. I feel worse now than when I came here.
Michael: Phyllis, where are you going?!
Phyllis: Out! Get away from me. Donít touch me!
Michael: I worry about you!
Phyllis: Don't worry about me.
Michael: I'm worried about where you're going, who you might meet. The last thing you need to do is incriminate yourself.
Phyllis: I'm not going to see the bitch, all right? I can't stand here and talk to you and I can't look at my husband.
Michael: Phyllis, just --
Nicholas: All right. Tell him I'll meet him in the morning. Don't forward any more calls here, okay? Thanks. Sorry. Did you --?
Sharon: No. I haven't said anything yet.
Cassie: Mom, Dad, I know what it is.
Noah: You keep saying that.
Nicholas: Everyone calm down, all right? We made a decision and we need to tell you about it.
Cassie: You're getting a divorce?
Sharon: No, sweetie, no.
Nicholas: But we are having some problems.
Cassie: What does that mean?
Nicholas: It means exactly as it sounds.
Sharon: It's more than just a disagreement, honey.
Cassie: Something you guys can't work out? You did before.
Sharon: It's something that will be easier to work out if we --
Nicholas: If your mother and I spend some time apart.
Cassie: You're moving out again?
Nicholas: Yes, for the time being.
Noah: You won't be here?
Nicholas: No, sorry, buddy.
Cassie: That's what I want to know.
Sharon: Just so that this is very clear, this has nothing to do with the two of you. This is strictly between your daddy and me.
Nicholas: We love you both so much, and that is never going to change.
Noah: Then why are you leaving us?
Cassie: Because they're mad at each other. They have been pretending not to be. But I guess they can't keep it up anymore.
Cassie: It's true, isn't it?
Noah: Don't yell.
Nicholas: Nobody's yelling, Noah.
Noah: When will I see you?
Nicholas: You will see me every day, I promise.
Noah: You won't be here. You won't tuck me in. You won't eat dinner with us.
Nicholas: I'm really sorry, little man, I have to do this.
Cassie: No, you don't have to. You want to. I can't believe you're doing this to us -- Again!
Sharon: Noah, honey.
Cassie: You promised me this wouldn't happen again. You promised!
Diane: Jack, I hope you understand what I've been going through. These past few months have been an absolute nightmare. I mean, at times it felt like Kyle and I were under siege right up to the fire that almost killed me. Despite everything I suffered, although all the pain and fear, humiliation, the worst was knowing that you didn't believe me. You didn't seem to care that I could be at risk.
Jack: Look, I am sorry if it seemed that way. I certainly never wished you any harm.
Diane: Because of the type of man you are. You're compassionate, loyal. Don't ever doubt how deeply I respect that. And let's face it, no one wants to believe someone they're close to is capable of what Phyllis did. But I would like to think that with everything that's happened that you're beginning to see things through my eyes now.
Jack: I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Diane: Jack, we have been put through the ringer. When all either one of us wanted was for you to bond with our son. And I was wondering if maybe there's some way we can help each other get through this time.
Jack: What are you suggesting?
Diane: Oh, Jack, I wish things could be different. If I could go back and do it all over again, God, I made so many mistakes. We were finally in a place where things would have worked for us and I let Victor turn my head. One thing I will regret l until the day I die. But what we had together was so good. It was so right, and I threw it all away. And I hurt you terribly, Jack. I would do anything to change that, anything. You know, I've never stopped hoping. I have never stopped thinking about you. And then when I learn you and I shared a son together, it was like a dream come true. It was like the answer to a prayer.
Diane: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just got a little caught up in the past. I'm sorry. I should go. But if there's ever a point you want to talk, you know where to find me.
Drucilla: Wes, I think it's high time that child go back to school and do something other than whine.
Wesley: I don't disagree.
Drucilla: You're not thrilled about something.
Wesley: I told you about my concerns.
Drucilla: If she's depressed, it's her attitude. She has to make an effort around here.
Wesley: What about the people she cares about in Paris? They have a bond, a connection.
Drucilla: It's brought her nothing but trouble. She has to bond with her family. She has to connect with her family if she intends straightening up her life. You're the one that advised me she needed to rebuild a relationship with her father.
Wesley: I said they should have been given the opportunity. We have been here a while. Your daughter feels more alienated than ever to the point I'm concerned.
Drucilla: Whose damn fault is that? She hasn't lifted one finger to do anything. Her father has reached out to her umpteen times. All she does is duck and dodge the man.
Wesley: Considering the state the man's been in.
Drucilla: I talked to that man. He is back to his old self. He turned himself around, thank God.
Wesley: You think so.
Drucilla: I know so. He is convinced he can make a difference in our daughter's life. And he's convinced me of that too.
Wesley: Despite the past several weeks he's accomplished nothing.
Drucilla: She won't return his call. I refuse to twist her arm. I wanted it to happen naturally. Okay, look, I was upfront with Neil. I told him what I was dealing with. Now I want to give him a chance. I want to give him a real chance without this whole I'm running back to Paris thing.
Wesley: That's what Neil was angling for.
Drucilla: I think it's right. I think it's right for Lily right now.
Wesley: In other words you're staying here indefinitely.
Lily: Okay. So I screw up once in a while. Show me someone who doesnít.
Neil: That's exactly my point. We all need a guiding hand at times. I just want to see you headed back in a positive direction.
Lily: I know you're concerned. If you think I need someone to guide me, I've got someone, Wes. He's a professional. We totally click. I mean, he understands what I say to him. So just let me go back home to Paris, and I'll talk to him as much as you want. Okay, Dad? Deal?
Neil: Sweetheart, I'm glad you feel you have someone to talk to. But I am your father. And your mother and I have made our decision. You're both going to be staying for the foreseeable future. We will enroll you at the Walnut Grove Academy, and that's just the way it is.
Lily: This can't be happening. I mean, you come out of nowhere; I haven't seen you in years, and suddenly you're going to start running my life?
Neil: Lily, you are my daughter. I want what's best for you. And I truly believe this is what's best for you. And I know that I should have been more involved in your life before now, and I'm sorry about that. But I tried on many occasions to contact you to no avail. I understand it's a shock for me to be standing here and to be running your life, as you say. I see good things coming out of this, Lily. Very good things.
Lily: I'm glad you do because I sure donít.
Victor: More to the story meaning what?
Nikki: Look, this terrible rift going on between the two of them isn't just about a one-night stand.
Victor: Sharon admitted she had difficulty letting go of that Diego guy.
Nikki: That was very forthright of her.
Victor: You and I both know Nicholas isn't entirely innocent in this.
Nikki: When I met her years ago, I didn't like her. I didn't trust her. I didn't think she was worthy of our son. I put my doubts aside. You know what? I'm starting to think maybe my first instinct was absolutely right.
Jack: Phyllis. Honey? No, no, no. No.
Phyllis: Get away.
Jack: You're not going anywhere. I am not going to let you leave.
Phyllis: Why should you care? You don't have any faith in me anyway.
Jack: That is not true.
Phyllis: Yes, it's true. More and more I realize it's true. I'm going to prison. You think I'm a murderer. You should get used to my not being here.
Jack: This is insanity.
Phyllis: Whatever. Get out of my way. I mean it, get out of my way.
Jack: Why do you think I don't trust you? I told you I believe you.
Phyllis: You told me you believe me. Wow! After a long pause, you told me. If you believed I was innocent, truly innocent, you wouldn't have waited a second.
Victor: I'm surprised at your attitude. Don't you think Nicholas and Sharon both made mistakes in this?
Nikki: Yes. In this case I'm on my son's side.
Victor: We shouldn't take sides. We should do everything in our power to make sure they salvage their marriage.
Nikki: I guess that's going to be up to Sharon, isn't it, and her willingness to look within herself and figure out why the hell she decided to just trample on her wedding vows.
Victor: And I think she's willing to do that. It's our son I'm concerned about. He's not sure if he's committed to putting his marriage back together again. I don't think he is either, after talking to him.
Nikki: For what it's worth, he promised me to use the separation as a time to sort things out for himself.
Victor: It's very upsetting to think that our boy's willing to leave everything behind him.
Nikki: You know who's going to suffer the most.
Victor: The kids.
Nikki: My heart just aches for them. I can't even imagine what they must be going through right now.
Nicholas: Cassie, I don't know what to say to you. There have been a lot of problems around here lately.
Cassie: That's for sure.
Sharon: We need to spend some time apart to work things out. We will both be working hard to solve our problems, right, Nick?
Cassie: How could you do this to me, to our family? How could you?
Sharon: Because right now it's the only way.
Cassie: Why? What happened? Do you think Dad said something wrong again?
Nicholas: Your mom's right. You don't need to know.
Cassie: Tell me I'm old enough to know.
Nicholas: It's complicated.
Cassie: Not that again.
Sharon: It's adult stuff.
Cassie: Make a promise to a kid and break it?
Cassie: This has to be someone's fault. I want to know who did this to our family.
Drucilla: You know, Wes, I realize if you have to go back to Paris, that's okay. I'm amazed you have been able to stay as long as you have.
Wesley: One of the reasons I've chosen to work in a hospital. It means I can travel. It means I can take time off. The kind of freedoms you don't get with a private practice.
Drucilla: It's still your work.
Wesley: Are you trying to get rid of me?
Drucilla I'm not trying to get rid of you. I know you have a life there, that's all.
Wesley: So does Lily. So do you.
Drucilla: Sometimes in life we have to make serious decisions. This is one of those times. Look, man, I'm trying to go on instinct. Baby, please hear me. I think now is the time for Lily to stay here. I believe that's what's best for her.
Wesley: For Lily.
Wesley: Dru, be honest. Is that the only reason you've agreed to go along with Neil?
Neil: There was a time way back when you were a little girl, and we were very close, you and I, we were like this. You know? You were so happy. I'd like to see that for us again. And all I want to see really is that beautiful smile, your pretty face. I know in my heart I can help to make that happen.
Lily: Are you sure this isn't about you, Dad, putting your life back together? Because if it is please don't use my life as a way to make yourself feel better.
Neil: All right. You make a good point. So let me put it this way. If this works out as I want it, as I know it will, it'll be good for both of us. As it should be. Lily, I'm not going to play games with you. I'm not going to lie to you. I need you in my life right now. But I think if you look at it closely, you'll agree with me that you need me now too.
Lily: Daddy, it's too late. It's too late.
Neil: Sweetheart, don't say that. It's never too late. Come here. It's not too late.
Jack: Look, I will admit I was thrown by the tape. Anyone would have been thrown by that tape.
Phyllis: You keep telling yourself that.
Jack: I'm on your side.
Phyllis: You want to be on my side. The miserable bitch, she's a lot more clever --
Jack: Will you let me get a word in edgewise?
Phyllis: Did I not French fry Diane? I wouldnít.
Jack: Diane came by my office. She told me she was frightened to death. She knew about the indictment. She told me she was frightened, that she wanted things to be better between the two of us.
Phyllis: Oh, I'm sure she is.
Jack: Will you stop interrupting me?!
Phyllis: So I can hear how you don't believe in me more?!
Jack: That is not it! I am here to tell you this is all starting to make sense to me.
Phyllis: It makes sense to you. This is insane.
Jack: No, it isnít. You are right. You have been right all along.
Phyllis: What did you say?
Jack: Everything Diane said, the way she looked at me, I think the light finally dawned. This is a woman with an agenda.
Jack: I know I should have seen this a long time ago. I'm sorry, but I'm finally seeing it now. This is a woman who knows what she wants. If my gut is right, she will do anything, anything to get what she wants.
