Phyllis: Why couldn't I see it coming? Why couldn't I see that Diane was setting me up? If I could have stopped her.
Jack: You look nice.
Phyllis: I didn't sleep.
Jack: You don't exactly have the best accommodations here.
Phyllis: That's not why, Jack. This is Diane. Diane did this. She's setting me up. I'm screwed. I'm going to take the fall.
Jack: She didn't think it was proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
Phyllis: She will say I ran her down on purpose. Nobody was there. Nobody saw. I will look like the dangerous one and she will look like the helpless victim.
John: The judge is required by law to let the prosecutor present that you are danger to society.
Phyllis: Diane will come in and make me out to be a raving lunatic.
John: You're forgetting one key factor. She may not believe her.
Phyllis: I should get new lipstick to match my orange jumpsuit.
Jack: We’re going to get you out of here. You and I both know that you didn't do this.
John Silva: I'm going to give you a moment alone.
Jack: Okay, thanks. I am 100% behind you. You know that, don't you? Hey, one day we're going to laugh about this. We're going to sit at dinner with our friends and we're going to laugh about this. I know. I know. We're going to get you out of here. It may take a little time but we're going to prove you didn't do this. I promise you that.
Bailiff: It's time for the bail hearing.
John Silva: Jack, Jack, it's time to go.
Jack: I love you.
Diane: My God, Phyllis is in jail?
Isabella: Then you were right.
Diane: When I think of Kyle and myself living so close to that madwoman.
Isabella: So what happens now?
Diane: They try her for arson, I guess.
Isabella: That's unbelievable.
Diane: So Detective Weber came by my hotel last night. Came to revisit the driving incident.
Isabella: When Phyllis ran you over with the car? I bet he was trying to find out if Phyllis did it on purpose.
Diane: He wanted to find out if she's a danger to the community.
Isabella: Mike a mass murderer?
Diane: She might try to finish the job.
Isabella: This is getting scary. I bet you slept better last night.
Diane: Knowing she was behind bars?
Isabella: What did you tell the detective?
Diane: She laughed when she saw me on the ground and she was disappointed she didn't really kill me.
Isabella: But you didn't, did you? You didn't lie to the police.
Sharon: Where are you, Nick? Why didn't you come home last night?
[Knock on door]
Nikki: Is this a bad time?
Sharon: No, no. Come on in.
Nikki: I'm on my way to the stables. I wanted to come by and say hello to the family.
Sharon: Cassie and Noah have left for school.
Nikki: I'll have to settle for you and your handsome husband; where is he?
Grace: I ordered breakfast.
Nicholas: No thanks.
Grace: Coffee? I figured you could use some.
Nicholas: I'm cool. Look, about last night, that's not going to be a regular thing.
Grace: Your life has been turned upside-down, Nicholas. I have no intention of complicating it any further. You know my plans. I don't have to be back in New York any time soon. Whatever you need to get over this hurt you suffered, Nicholas. I'm here for you. Whatever you need, Nicholas.
Nicholas: You know part of me wishes I never called you.
Nicholas: You don't need me complicating your life, and that's exactly what you're doing. Right now, I don't have anything to offer you or anyone.
Grace: Maybe you have more to offer than you know, Nick.
Nicholas: I have to go.
Sharon: Nick went to the office.
Nikki: Already? He must be working on an important project.
Sharon: Must be.
Nikki: How was the family dinner last night?
Sharon: The casserole went over big.
Nikki: One of Nick's favorites?
Sharon: Unfortunately, Nick was tired. It really was a nice evening.
Nikki: But Sharon, please know I don't mean to pry. But last night I got the distinct impression that something was troubling you and I feel that now.
Sharon: Really? Nikki, I'm fine. We all are.
Brad: You were up at the crack of down.
Ashley: I couldn't sleep.
Brad: Anything I can do for you?
Ashley: I don't think so. What's wrong? Why are you looking at me?
Brad: Oh, wishing things could be the way they used to be.
Ashley: I wouldn't look for that to happen.
Brad: I don't expect anything to change. That's quite a pessimistic note.
Ashley: I'm drained. There's nothing left. Taking this drug that's trying to kill this disease that's trying to kill me, it's not working. In the meantime, I feel like I'm being poisoned.
Brad: Well, this was your last chemo.
Ashley: For the time being.
Ashley: Maybe that's why I was so restless last night.
Ashley: Anxiety. This is the moment of truth. I find out how I did with the chemo or how it did with me.
Brad: I believe everything is going to be okay.
Ashley: We have to wait and see and hope it all works out.
Brad: It's so unfair.
Ashley: Who ever said life was fair? Don't look at me that way, please. The last thing I need is your pity.
Brad: Sometimes, Ash, I wonder if the last thing you need is me.
Drucilla: Liv, have you seen Lily's passport? Sorry to interrupt.
Olivia: I'm just thinking.
Drucilla: Whatever it is, it sure is deep.
Olivia: Just something I have to get out of my mind.
Drucilla: It seems you're having some trouble to do that.
Olivia: You're a psychiatrist like your boyfriend. I don't need the third degree, Dru.
Drucilla: Whoo, which broom did you fly in on?
Olivia: Dru, wait.
Drucilla: Okay. You know you haven't been yourself lately. What's going on? I figure it must have something to do with Ashley, everything that she's going through with cancer. How's she holding up?
Olivia: The chemo is taking its toll.
Drucilla: She losing all her hair?
Olivia: It's not just the physical thing. She's depressed. Her energy is nil. She's been making these tapes for Abby.
Drucilla: What kind of tapes?
Olivia: Home videos, these mother-daughter chats in case she doesn't make it.
Drucilla: That's deep.
Olivia: Exactly. She gave me the last one.
Drucilla: You, for what?
Olivia: Because I'm her best friend.
Drucilla: I wonder what's on that tape. She didn't give you the rest of the tapes, right?
Drucilla: Did she tell you when to look at the tape?
Olivia: She left that up to me more or less. If something happens to her, that's my decision.
Drucilla: She's got all that family, and she trusts you.
Sharon: You're home.
Nicholas: Where are the kids?
Sharon: I told them you left for the office early.
Nicholas: I have to change. I'm late for work.
Sharon: Nick, aren't you going to tell me where you were last night?
Nicholas: Does it matter?
Sharon: Of course it matters. I waited up all night. I even went looking for you.
Nicholas: You did what?
Sharon: I'm sorry. I don't want to fight. I assume you were at the office. You weren't there, so I guess I missed you.
Nicholas: I guess you did. I know what you were trying to do last night, pretending everything was back to normal.
Sharon: I wasn't pretending.
Nicholas: I had to get out of there.
Sharon: The kids know you didn't come home last night and that's what matters.
Nicholas: Good. Sharon, I can't tell you what you want to hear right now. And frankly, I don't think you should expect me too. I will try to be more aware of the kids.
Sharon: And your Mom. She's starting to pick up on things.
Nicholas: Like what?
Sharon: Well, it's pretty hard for me to act like things are normal when you're out all night and you don't come home.
Nicholas: What'd you tell her?
Sharon: Nothing. I covered.
Sharon: I'm right, you still don't want your family to know about this?
Nicholas: What would that accomplish?
Sharon: I just keep hoping.
Nicholas: Well, don't. Don't do that. I can't give you any hope right now.
Sharon: Were you at the office?
Sharon: Of course you were, right? You and the janitor.
Nicholas: I'm going to go take a shower.
Nicholas: Sharon, I never thought it would be like this, not in a million years. But it is and we both know why.
Diane: Of course I didn't lie to the police even though it would have been easy to stretch the truth and keep Phyllis behind bars. Jack knows the broken leg was an accident.
Isabella: You never answered me. What exactly did you tell the detective about the driveway incident?
Diane: I told him I couldn't be sure if it was an accident or not.
Isabella: Which leaves you free to change your mind if you remember anything.
Diane: If she set the fire, I don't have to.
Isabella: Now she's behind bars.
Diane: And for the first time in weeks, I truly feel safe.
Jack: Here. How's this?
Phyllis: Great. That table in the kitchen would be fine.
Jack: Enjoying your freedom?
Phyllis: You don't realize how much you miss it until it's gone.
Jack: Like a lot of things.
Phyllis: Table's fine. Thank you. You know what would be better? A big plate in the middle with Diane's head and an apple stuck inside her mouth.
Ashley: How could you say that? Of course I need you. Brad, you have been my rock throughout this whole nightmare.
Brad: I've wanted to be there.
Ashley: You have been.
Brad: Ash, sometimes I feel so much distance.
Ashley: I'm sorry.
Brad: I know. You're sorry. We're both sorry.
Ashley: What do you want me to say?
Brad: I just wish I could understand better.
Ashley: Okay. Understand what?
Brad: What you feel. Why do you keep pulling inside yourself?
Ashley: I don't know. It's just facing your mortality. It makes you question things.
Brad: What things?
Ashley: Everything. Your life. Your choices. Your decisions.
Brad: You know how much I love you.
Ashley: I know.
Brad: It tears me apart seeing you like this.
Ashley: It's going to get better.
Brad: Thank God the chemo’s over.
Ashley: It's strange how it affects you. Just the littlest things, you know, the smallest things, the stupid, everyday things, suddenly you're so tired and you feel so drained. Like taking Abby to the park and the day that I felt too tired to do that. Maybe you can't understand unless you live it.
Ashley: It's okay, you can get it.
Victoria: Good, you're alone. You have no gunslinger on your arm.
Nicholas: Save it. I'm not in the mood.
Victoria: Is that what you told Grace?
Nicholas: If you're here to rag on me --
Victoria: I'm not. I just got the Q.C. reports. I wanted to go over the numbers with you.
Nicholas: Sure, but not now.
Victoria: So how was last night?
Ashley: What? What did my dad say?
Brad: Phyllis has been arrested for arson.
Ashley: She's actually been accused of setting that fire?
Ashley: Oh, my God, Jack. What this must do to Jack.
Brad: What about Diane? She could have been killed?
Ashley: Phyllis wouldn't do that no matter how much she hates Diane.
Jack: I am glad the DA came up short.
Phyllis: Claiming I ran over Diane's leg on purpose. They talked to Diane about the accident; I still would be in the Gray Bar Hotel.
Jack: The police have to keep an open mind about this.
Phyllis: Wait a second. Are you expecting me to believe that anyone but Diane set me up?
Jack: Sweetheart, I'm saying it's possible.
Phyllis: Jack, come on. Listen to me. Who else would go to such extremes to ruin my life? We're not talking about a childish prank here. Somebody could have been hurt and killed. Other than Diane, a firefighter, a neighbor, a child, Kyle. Kyle. Oh, my God.
Jack: Honey, Kyle is okay. Oh, great. What do you say we get out of here right now.
Phyllis: No, no, no, no. Don't worry. I'm fine. I'm not going to go over there and gouge her eyes out. I'm not going to go over there and pour hot coffee on her lap. I won't stick a steak knife in her heart. Don't worry.
Jack: You're giving these options some thought.
Phyllis: I came here to have a nice meal with my husband. I am going to enjoy my meal. I will not let that miserable excuse of a human being run me out of the restaurant. What is she doing here? She should leave.
Phyllis: Don't Phyllis me. She planted a chain of evidence to put my hide in jail.
Jack: We established the evidence is very thin.
Phyllis: Thick enough for me to be dragged off in handcuffs. Diane did this. Who else would put paint thinner in the trunk of your car? Diane is the only one. No arsonist in his right mind would take a can of paint thinner and gloves and throw them in their right mind. Diane did this, okay? She did it. Nobody else is so obsessed and twisted. She waited until nobody was home, until Kyle was safely out of the house.
Jack: You got lipstick on your dress and had to go home. If it doesn't hold up here in Gina’s, it's not going to hold up in court. You want to get out of here? Come on.
Nikki: Sharon, are you still here? Hi.
Sharon: Nikki, how was your ride?
Nikki: It was great. I just love being in the woods all alone. It's so peaceful and quiet. All's right with the world. So any word from Nicholas?
Sharon: Yeah, he just called from the office.
Nikki: Really. Well, that's very odd, because I just saw his car leave the driveway. Sharon, I know you told me earlier that everything was fine but I don't think it is. I know you don't think it's any of my business, but I'm very concerned. Honey, please talk to me. It's obvious something is upsetting you.
Sharon: Things are a little off. It's nothing that Nick and I can't work through.
Nikki: Sweetheart, if you talk to me about it, maybe I can help.
Sharon: It's just that it's no big deal. I appreciate your concern but please try not to worry.
Victoria: How was last night?
Nicholas: What about it?
Victoria: Dinner with the family.
Victoria: Did you bring Grace? She is your new best friend.
Nicholas: I didn't bring Grace. I told her to get out of town.
Victoria: As much as I despise the woman, I feel sorry for her. You call her, get her revved up and tell her to go back where she came from. I don't understand what you were thinking. Why were you reaching out to her in the first place? Wait, you weren't thinking. At least not with your brain.
Nicholas: What is this, an intervention?
Victoria: Any chance, no matter how remote it could be, you have one chance to put your marriage back together.
Nicholas: I told her to go back to New York.
Victoria: Did she listen? Did she go?
Nicholas: I didn't put a gun to her head. Victoria, I don't know where Grace is.
Victoria: I have a feeling you're not being entirely straight with me. Are you hiding the bimbo somewhere?
Nicholas: My life is so messed up.
Olivia: Here you go, cream, no sugar.
Drucilla: Thanks. Liv, I know it must be difficult.
Drucilla: You being a doctor and all, feeling powerful watching your girlfriend go through all of this. It must be affecting you.
Olivia: Of course it's affecting me. I'm watching my best friend fight for her life.
Drucilla: I read an article that most marriages don't make it through --
Olivia: That won't happen with Brad and Ashley. I know what they have is special.
Drucilla: I know you want the best for them but this article --
Olivia: Can we just not go there? Ashley is so young and she and Brad have this beautiful little girl and this great life together. It's bad enough what cancer can do to people.
Drucilla: Sweetie, am I hearing you correctly? Are things really that bad?
Olivia: I don't want it to get worse.
Drucilla: Break it down for me. What's really going on?
Olivia: It's just Brad and Ashley are so concerned about protecting each other's feelings that they have stopped communicating. Especially Ashley. No matter how hard Brad tries, she shuts him out. He's standing by watching his wife suffer knowing there's not a damn thing he can do it. The man is wonderful. He loves her so much. It's just tearing him apart.
Drucilla: Yeah. Good thing he's not alone, that he has you in his corner.
Olivia: And what's that supposed to mean?
Drucilla: Nothing. I imagine he needs all the support he can get. And given the way Ashley's illness is affecting you so heavily, I must imagine he's going through sheer hell.
Olivia: Sheer hell, yeah. That's a good way of describing it. Why are you looking at me like that?
Drucilla: I'm worried about you.
Olivia: Well, don't be. I'm fine. Ashley and Brad, that's who you should be concerned about. Worry about the two of them.
Ashley: There has to be some mistake.
Brad: Maybe. See how it plays out.
Ashley: Phyllis is in jail?
Brad: There's a bail hearing this morning.
Ashley: This is so sick. You think Phyllis is guilty. I know you and Diane are old buddies.
Brad: Diane and I are not old buddies. I don't like the --
Ashley: You are taking sides again.
Brad: This is not about taking sides. This is about crime.
Ashley: You tried and convicted Phyllis.
Brad: She's a friend, Ash. You don't need me to approve your friends. Now you have to approve mine?
Ashley: That's what you do, you bring Victor up. Your friendship with Diane is not at all the same thing.
Brad: You're right, it's not at all the same. I have no history with Diane. We're not former lovers. We were never married. And I don't throw them up in your face --
Ashley: I don't throw Victor up in your face. He has been a good and loyal friend, more sensitive than you have been. He hasn't laid guilt trips on me like you do!
Brad: Guilt trip. That's what you think this is.
Ashley: Well, what would you call it?
Brad: You know, Ash, sometimes I -- forget it. I'm going to get some air.
Diane: Phyllis. My God, get away from me.
Phyllis: Guess where I was last night, sweetie. You know because you put me there. Your evidence didn't amount to anything in court.
Diane: Will you please -- Jack, will you make her leave?
Phyllis: I'm not finished here. Look at you, your little eye witness. How much did she pay you, sweetie?
Isabella: I told the police what I saw.
Phyllis: Right, right. You're either in cahoots or you're too stupid and she's duped you too.
Isabella: I don't need this.
Phyllis: Your brain job will blow up in your face. Your phony evidence didn't hold up in court. It's a joke. You want me out of the picture so you can get your hands on my husband. We have grown stronger. My husband is supporting me every inch of the way.
Diane: I have no idea what you're raving about.
Phyllis: Some day somebody -- not me but somebody -- is going to give you what you deserve. You understand what I'm saying?
Diane: I need a restraining order. In the meantime, keep this crazy woman the hell away from me, Jack.
Phyllis: Well, that felt good.
Jack: Could we please go back to our table?
Phyllis: I have to see somebody.
Jack: Not Diane.
Phyllis: Not Diane. I'm done with her. I'm done. I love you. Do you love me? I'm high maintenance, aren't I.
Jack: Yeah, you are but you know what? You're worth it.
Nicholas: Look, I know you're concerned.
Victoria: We are talking about your marriage.
Nicholas: Well some things can't be saved.
Victoria: You don't mean that.
Nicholas: You can't unpop a balloon. One of us trashes the other, and we go into healing mode for a year before it happens again.
Victoria: I guess that's up to you. I thought your dinner was a first step.
Nicholas: That's for the kids; we will probably do a repeat performance for our parents.
Victoria: You're just putting off the day of reckoning.
Nicholas: When they find out what Sharon’s done -- look, I want to give them a few more days before they get all wrapped up in my problems. You understand?
Miguel: Mrs. Newman. Congratulations.
Nikki: Oh, thank you.
Cody: That was an amazing wedding. Thanks for inviting me. Are you looking for Nick?
Nikki: Is he here?
Cody: He's not in yet. When he comes in, I'll have him call you.
