Billy: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, I don't feel a pulse. He's dead. I killed him.
Billy: Oh, my God, Ralph, he's dead.
Mackenzie: He can't be.
Billy: He's not breathing. He's not breathing. He -- oh, my God. This can't be happening.
Mackenzie: We should call the police.
Billy: No, why? What's the point? The man is dead. I killed him!
Mackenzie: No, Billy! Stop it! He's not, okay?
Billy: No, no, no -- I need to get out of here. I need to think for a minute.
Mackenzie: Okay, okay, okay. Come on.
Billy: Okay. No, no, no, hold on a second.
Amanda: Mackenzie went back to the house?
Katherine: To change her dress, yes.
Amanda: I don't understand. I thought that she was coming straight here right after the prom. How long has she been gone, Katherine?
Katherine: Actually, Amanda, I am a little surprised. I thought she would have been here by now at least, since --
Amanda: Since what?
Katherine: Billy called Mackenzie's cell and there was no answer, so he went out to check on her in case she had car trouble. Would you please relax? We would have heard something by now if there was a problem. And I have a hunch the two of them would love to skip all of this, find some time by themselves. I think they're becoming rather close again. And they're certainly gonna have a much lovelier evening if they can avoid Jill's unpleasantness.
Brittany: Why did you do that?
Raul: You know why.
Brittany: Raul, don't, okay?
Raul: Don't what, Brittany? Make you admit that you don't want to leave? Come on, we're starting to work things out now.
Brittany: We are? Since when?
Raul: Well, then we can start now.
Brittany: You want to?
Raul: Unless you'd rather just hike back to the car and go home.
Brittany: You're playing with me.
Raul: No, I'm not. All right, fine. I'll admit I don't want to leave here, all right? Not until --
Brittany: Until what?
Raul: We get past these feelings of hurt. All right, see if maybe there's something else worth talking about.
Larry: Mrs. Chancellor?
Katherine: Oh, Larry.
Larry: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sneak up on you. It's just -- I saw you talking to Mandy.
Katherine: Well, she was wondering where Mackenzie is.
Larry: Is that why she took off? To go look for her kid?
Katherine: She left?
Larry: Yeah, just now. She blazed out of here like it was some big emergency or something.
Katherine: That's not like her. I reassured her that -- did she tell you where she was going?
Larry: Are you kidding? I figured the reason she took off so fast is to get away from me.
[Cell phone rings]
Katherine: Excuse me, please.
Larry: Yeah. Thank you.
Nikki: Katherine, it's me.
Katherine: Oh, Nikki, thank God. I'm so glad to hear from you.
Nikki: I don't know if you'll feel that way after I tell you what's happened.
Hope: Just want to make sure you're the same man that I knew.
Victor: Because I'm here, asking questions?
Hope: Well, it takes a lot of courage to look in the mirror and confront what you see. Not everybody can do that. I think it's really wonderful. Not only that, but it changes my perception of you in a very profound way.
Waitress: Hope, honey, phone for you.
Hope: Oh, thank you very much. Hello? Hi. How was your day? Mmm-hmm. I just wanted to make sure that you got home all right, honey. Really? That sounds very exciting. I can't wait to hear all about it when I get home. Soon. I'll be home soon, all right? Okay, honey. Bye. That was your son, Victor Jr. You must be curious about him.
Victor: I'm very curious about him.
Chris: I still say you should be dead on your feet.
Michael: Whoa, no way. When I get this worked up about a case, I don't even think about sleeping.
Chris: Talk about the divorce from hell.
Michael: Do you believe those two? Were they nuts or what?
Chris: You warned me what I'd be walking into, but --
Michael: Nothing could prepare you for Barbie and -- biff? Biff. Biff!
Chris: Well, I can definitely see why you were at your wits' end.
Michael: Yeah, well, I owe you one for coming along tonight. I knew you'd be able to keep your cool negotiating better than myself and that idiot attorney of theirs.
Chris: Really? Staying cool was the easy part. Trying to keep a straight face? When Barbie said she wanted the cap from the toothpaste included in her marital assets, I swear I almost lost it.
Michael: Well, you know what? Bizarre, yes -- strange, yes -- but you didn't lose it. You know, you handled it -- you handled the whole situation with your usual, professional aplomb.
Chris: Oh, yeah, right. I pinched my leg to keep from laughing. You can't get any more professional than that. Oh, my gosh. Serve it up. Oh.
Michael: You worked up an appetite, did you?
Brittany: Okay, where do you want to start?
Raul: Whatever it was that made you start pushing me away, it's still there. And saying "I'm sorry" is not gonna make it go away.
Brittany: Okay, fine. Then I'll take it back. I'm not sorry.
Raul: Come on, Brittany, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, all right? But we've swept things under the carpet before and look where it's gotten us. Now, you said you didn't know why you did those things. Right?
Brittany: Because I don't. God, Raul, why do you keep pushing this?
Raul: I told you why. Brittany, if I get in any deeper and bam , you start doing numbers on me again, I don't think I can take it. I really don't. Britt --
Brittany: I hated doing those mean things to you. Being mean and pretending. I wish I could tell you why I do those things. I wish I knew myself.
Raul: Maybe you had some help. J.T.
Brittany: Well, what makes you think that?
Raul: Oh, come on, please. Don't play dumb. You were planning on bringing him here tonight.
Raul: So if you had, I'm really sure that you wouldn't be standing here talking.
Brittany: Raul, stop it.
Raul: What? What, did I hit a nerve?
Brittany: You said you wanted to work things through.
Raul: Yeah. And that means being honest.
Brittany: But nice honest, not nasty.
Raul: Damn it, Brittany, I can't not talk about this. I'm not J.T. I can't come here and crawl into a sleeping bag with you for fun.
Brittany: Why not? You have something against having fun?
Raul: Look, of course not. But -- never mind.
Brittany: Is it because you -- I mean, you haven't --
Raul: What are you asking me? Why, does it bother you, Brittany?
Brittany: No. Not at all. I think it's romantic.
Raul: You do, huh?
Brittany: Among other things.
Raul: What's that supposed to mean?
Brittany: I'm not sure. But we could try to figure it out -- together.
Raul: Or maybe since we're gonna take things slow -- we should eat instead.
Victor: You call your son Victor Jr.?
Hope: No, no, just Victor.
Victor: You mean the "junior" would raise too many questions?
Hope: Well, I think so. But I always think of him as Victor Jr.
Victor: What did he say just now on the phone?
Hope: Oh, he was on an outing with his scout troop today. There was an air show in Selena. My neighbor Betty was picking him up and I asked her to have him give me a call when they got in.
Victor: Did you say an air show?
Hope: Oh, I don't think I told you. He is crazy about airplanes.
Hope: He loves them. They're his favorite thing right now.
Victor: How's he at school?
Hope: Well, he's gotten straight "As" so far.
Victor: Oh. What about sports?
Hope: Oh, he loves them all. Basketball, baseball, soccer -- you name it.
Victor: What about boxing?
Hope: He still has those gloves you gave to him years ago. They're getting a little small on him now.
Victor: Sounds like a wonderful boy.
Hope: Oh, Victor, he is so special. What can I say? I'm a proud mother. Would you like to see your son?
Victor: I'd love to see my son.
Nikki: Katherine, why didn't you tell me you were at the after-prom party? I wouldn't have asked you to come over.
Katherine: Darling, darling, please. It's all right. You know, besides, it was winding down. Time for the older generation to go home.
Nikki: Yeah, but if I had known, I wouldn't have bothered --
Katherine: Oh, stop it. Now, I could hear you were upset. I could hear it in your voice. What is it? What's happened?
Nikki: Well, you know how you had all those ideas swirling around about "the wedding of the century"?
Nikki: It's not gonna happen. Victor and I are not getting married. Not now. Not ever. It's over.
Jill: You have a problem with me, Mr. Warton?
Larry: Look, just shut up, Jill, all right?
Jill: I beg your pardon!
Larry: You've been on Mandy's case, haven't you? Giving her a hard time when I'm not around? That's why she's been having headaches. Yeah. This whole mess -- it's all your fault!
Amanda: Mackenzie? Sweetheart? Are you up there? Please, please let her be gone. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! What's happened? Ralph?
Amanda: Oh, thank God.
Ralph: Amanda, is that you?
Amanda: Yeah. Yeah, it's me. What happened?
Ralph: Damn. Oh, my head. Oh.
Amanda: What? What is it?
Amanda: Oh, my God, you're bleeding.
Ralph: That crazy kid hit me with something.
Amanda: What kid? Mackenzie?
Ralph: No, no. That little punk boyfriend of hers.
Ralph: Yeah, Billy. He tore in here and attacked me. Look --
Amanda: Oh, my God.
Ralph: This is so weird. It was like a dream. I was floating on the ceiling, and I was looking down on him. He was standing over me and he kept saying, "I killed him, I killed him." And I kept saying, "no, no, I'm not dead." But they couldn't hear me. It was weird. Oh, God.
Amanda: Why did he hit you, Ralph?
Ralph: I don't know. Probably because of you.
Ralph: You got everybody thinking in this town that I'm the devil or something.
Amanda: Come on, Ralph, he wouldn't just hit you for no reason. What happened? Oh, my God. You were with Mackenzie. Mackenzie saw you, didn't she?
Ralph: Calm down, all right?
Mackenzie: Oh, my God! Ralph, you didn't tell her that I was helping you, did you?
Ralph: Will you get a grip, Amanda? It wasn't like that. Mac was freaked out to see me again.
Amanda: Oh, my God.
Ralph: She didn't know which way to turn. I tried calming her down --
Amanda: Ralph --
Ralph: -- And that's as far as I got when the kid bolted in.
Amanda: Where did they go?
Ralph: How the hell do I know? Oh, God. Look, okay? Look, we gotta move fast here. Help me. Help me up.
Amanda: Damn you!
Ralph: Oh. I got a plan. I found the old lady's key.
Amanda: Another plan?
Ralph: We'll go up to her room and --
Amanda: No. No, Ralph! Mackenzie and Billy are gonna be here soon, and they'll probably have the police with them.
Ralph: I don't give a damn! I'm not leaving without that necklace. Oh, God.
Amanda: Oh, my God. Come on. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, someone's coming, Ralph. Come on. We gotta get out of here.
Michael: You know, as bizarre as this divorce has been, I can't help but feel sorry for these people.
Chris: I know. It's obvious she's hurting. Plus, she has to sit across from the man she feels betrayed her. Believe me, I know all too well from my own experience. It's like every nerve is exposed and all you want to do is just -- oh, never mind. We're not talking about me. We're talking about that.
Michael: Okay. Okay. Back to the list of marital assets. Who gets what. There are some pretty strange items on this.
Chris: Yeah, this list from Barbie about what she wants the most. She will give Biff the Grateful Dead poster in exchange for The Three Tenors concert video.
Michael: And you're skeeving me out here. You think that's wild? Look at item 15.
Chris: A potted palm?
Michael: Yeah. Apparently, he used it as an ashtray and she bought it to match the drapes.
Chris: How do people who are so different ever get together in the first place?
Michael: There are some submental people who said the same things about us, partner. Sorry. Anyway, get back to the list.
Chris: Looks like one of us is starting to fade.
Michael: No, no. I am immune to sleep. Anyway, I'm determined to get through this list tonight, if it's the last thing I do.
Chris: Okay. You know what? You need some coffee. I'll go make some.
Michael: All right.
Michael: I'm sorry.
Brittany: This place is everything you said it was -- and more.
Raul: The eats are pretty good, too.
Brittany: Well, what can I say? I pack a mean picnic basket.
Raul: One of your many talents, right?
Brittany: Would you like to know some more?
Raul: I don't know if we should go there.
Brittany: Are you afraid of getting in over your head?
Raul: No. But that makes me wonder if maybe that's what you were afraid of -- getting in over your head with me.
Wally: Not to worry, Mr. Newman. I'll give the boy a grand tour of the cockpit.
Victor: Thank you, Wally.
Hope: If you're wondering if I'm having second thoughts, I'm not.
Victor: I'm just surprised you're letting me see him. You've drawn the line so carefully all these years.
Betty: Hope, are you here?
Hope: In here, Betty.
Betty: It's your son and me.
Hope: Hi. Victor, this is Mr. Newman.
Victor Jr.: Hello, sir.
Victor: Hello, Victor.
Hope: And I'm sure you must remember Betty.
Victor: Betty, how nice to see you again.
Betty: You, too. It's been quite a while.
Victor: It certainly has.
Hope: I was telling Mr. Newman how much you love airplanes, and he thought it might be nice if you took a tour of his jet. Wasn't that kind of him?
Victor Jr.: Great!
Jill: You have no right to talk to me that way.
Larry: Yeah? Well, you've got no right doing what you've done to Mandy.
Jill: You don't know what you're talking about.
Larry: Oh, don't I? I know that she's still very upset tonight, even after gettin' the good news that this phone guy's probably the thief.
Jill: Is she, now?
Jill: Well, see, the fact is, this man has not confessed, Mr. Warton. Hell, the police haven't even questioned him yet.
Jill: So think about it. If your girlfriend isn't relieved by this new development, what does that tell you?
Larry: What are you trying to get at here, Jill?
Jill: You know what I'm trying to get at. Amanda's behavior tonight was not that of an innocent person, was it? If you believe otherwise, you are kidding yourself big time.
Katherine: Oh, Nikki, darling, I understand how upsetting this is. But you have to consider the sources -- Leanna Love and this Hollister fellow? They clearly have an ax to grind with Victor.
Nikki: So what? You think that I should cut Victor slack after everything I've told you? That I should just automatically assume this Max guy is the villain?
Katherine: All I'm saying -- try not to judge Victor until you've heard his side. Now, have you even tried to reach him?
Nikki: He deigned to call me earlier. I think that would have been the appropriate time to explain himself.
Katherine: But he didn't?
Nikki: No, he didn't.
Katherine: Did you ask him to?
Nikki: I asked him where he was, and he wouldn't tell me.
Katherine: Still, I find it very hard to believe that Victor is doing -- what did this witch call it? He's doing a "sexual Victory lap?"
Nikki: It's just disgusting.
Katherine: Well --
Nikki: You know, I keep thinking about that engagement ring. How he had it with him that night at the apartment. If he was going to give it to me, why didn't he? What possible reason could he have for waiting?
Katherine: Well, I take it you must have some sort of a plan.
Nikki: Yeah, I do. And it sickens me. I think it's very possible that he was planning on having romantic evenings with all of these women, including me, and then he could just stand back and pick the lucky winner.
Katherine: Oh, Nikki, Nikki, Nikki --
Nikki: I mean, it's like he thinks he's Prince Charming, prancing around the country with some damn glass slipper! And whoever fits the slipper best, gets the prize. Well, I can't wait to tell him what to do with his damn slipper!
Betty: I'll wait in the car, Hope. Give you some privacy.
Victor: Thank you, Betty. Nice to see you again.
Betty: You, too.
Hope: Thank you, Betty.
Victor: So, your mom tells me you know a lot about airplanes. What do you know about this one?
Victor Jr.: I know what kind of engines it has.
Victor: Oh, you do?
Victor Jr.: Br 710, with 14,000 pounds of thrust.
Victor: How do you know that? That's impressive. What else do you want to know?
Victor Jr.: I think I remember meeting you.
Victor: Yeah, a long time ago.
Victor Jr.: You gave me boxing gloves.
Victor: You remember that.
Victor Jr.: And your name -- it's Victor, just like mine.
Victor: Yeah, just like yours.
Victor Jr.: How do you know my mom?
Victor: Well, I met her on the farm. I used to work for her.
Victor Jr.: You were a farmhand?
Victor: Yep. It's a long story.
Victor Jr.: Won't you tell it?
Hope: You know what, honey? It's getting late. If you want to take a tour of the cockpit, you'd better go find Wally, okay? Scoot.
Victor Jr.: Cool!
Victor: He's a very curious boy, isn't he?
Hope: Yeah. Well, there's no question in my mind -- he is definitely his father's son. You know, I think I'm finally comfortable saying that. In the past, I was worried about complications that would surface if you and he started bonding, but after our talk today, I don't feel as concerned.
Victor: I'm very glad to hear that. I'm very happy you let me see him. It means a lot to me. I just want you to know that unless you want it otherwise, I will never -- never let on that I am his father. But if you and he ever need any help, you --
Hope: I know. I know. Thank you so much.
Esther: Oh, it's just you.
Jill: Oh, shut up, you dimwit.
Esther: I was hoping you were Mrs. C. I don't know where she is.
Jill: With any luck, she's been abducted by aliens.
Esther: Anyway, nobody is home but me.
Esther: Yeah, that's right, Jill. Billy and Mac haven't come back, either. I'm sure they're out having a really good time.
Jill: You are so pathetic! You just got to focus on other people's lives, don't you, 'cause you don't have one of your own. Especially now that your phone man fantasy has gone up in smoke.
Esther: You mean Jay? What about him?
Jill: Well, your friend Larry did a little snooping and found out that "Jay" isn't from the phone company after all.
Jill: That's right. He's a fake. He's been lying through his teeth. Of course, now everyone thinks he's responsible for the burglary, but I'm not convinced of that. What? You didn't know? I just assumed that Katherine would have -- oh, well. Now you know. God!
Jill: You left the coffeehouse way before I did. Where have you been all this time?
Amanda: What's it to you, Jill?
Jill: You're right. It's nothing to me. I couldn't care less. It's been a dreadful evening. I'm going up to bed.
Amanda: Wait a minute. Have you heard from Billy or Mackenzie?
Jill: What? Do you want to rub it in, too? You and Esther working as a tag team?
Amanda: What are you talking about?
Jill: She was just going on and on about they're out and they're having this wonderful time. Like it's supposed to upset me.
Amanda: That wasn't my intention.
Jill: Oh, what is it about you? Everybody's so eager to assume the best of you. You're very clever, Amanda. But I see right through you. You've got secrets, don't you? You've got dirty, little secrets.
[Music box playing]
Hope: I'm sure Victor is asking your pilot about a million questions right now.
Victor: That's all right. Wally doesn't mind.
Hope: I don't want to hold you up, though. I'm sure you're anxious to get home.
Victor: You're not holding me up. Why do you say that?
Hope: Well, I would think that you would want to get home to Nikki.
Victor Jr.: Mom, the cockpit -- it's totally digital! Plus, there's like, a jillion instruments.
Victor: That's cool, isn't it?
Victor Jr.: Totally.
Victor Jr.: Thanks, Mr. Newman.
Victor: You're welcome.
Hope: Well, we should probably get going.
Victor: All right.
Hope: It was really nice to have this time with you.
Victor: Well --
Victor Jr.: Goodbye, Mr. Newman. Thanks again.
Victor: Goodbye, Victor. You're welcome anytime. All right? It meant a lot to me.
Hope: Me, too. You take care of yourself.
Victor: Let me show you out.
Hope: You want to guide me there, cowboy?
Victor Jr.: Bye, Mr. Newman.
Victor: Bye, Victor.
Victor Jr.: Thank you again.
Victor: That was my son. Wow.
Raul: Brittany, um -- listen to me. Um -- I've never felt this way about any girl before. If I didn't care so much, none of this would matter. Now, you said that you wished you could tell me why you did what you did.
Brittany: It's just with you, it's all been so different. With other guys -- Raul, it's hard to explain.
Raul: Maybe it's because you're scared of what you feel when you're around me.
Brittany: Scared? Come on.
Raul: You're not in control.
Brittany: Oh, great. So now you're telling me I have a control issue?
Raul: Are you telling me you don't?
Brittany: Okay. Maybe I am scared -- a little.
Raul: I know what you mean.
Brittany: You do?
Raul: Yeah. But you don't have to be scared, Brittany.
