Sharon: Did you hear what I said?

Nicholas: Yeah, I heard you.

Sharon: That beautiful little baby, she was ours.

Nicholas: How did you --

Sharon: Have the test done?

Nicholas: Yeah.

Sharon: You gave blood, remember?

Nicholas: That's how you did all this without telling me?

Sharon: Yeah. I almost had forgotten. And I got this bill in the mail just before Victor's Christmas trip.

Nicholas: That's when you got the results. This is what you've been carrying around with you.

Sharon: I haven't been able to just put it out of my mind.

Nicholas: Sorry you felt like you had to do that.

Sharon: You felt you had to have a paternity test done before the baby was born. It was so important to you; you couldn't let it go. I couldn't let it go after she died.

Nicholas: Why? Why couldn't you?

Isabella: Well, this is a surprise. I didn't expect to see you so soon. I was just telling Michael about our chance meeting at church Christmas Eve. I don't suppose you're here to congratulate him. I guess not. I'll leave you two alone.

Michael: Of course you will. Obviously you know about Isabellaís pregnancy.

Paul: That's right.

Michael: Why are you staring at me? This is none of your concern. Well, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do.

Billy: Well, this is cool, being invited to brunch by my big sis.

Ashley: You're getting more and more like Jackie every day.

Billy: That's a good thing, right?

Ashley: Anyway, I haven't had much time to spend with you lately. What's going on at home?

Billy: Something tells me youíre not talking about the newlyweds.

Ashley: What's happening with Colleen?

Billy: She pretty much stays in her room. I tried to talk to her, but her walls are way up.

Ashley: I thought if she would talk to anybody, it would be you.

Billy: I made the mistake of lecturing a little. Being thrown out of school has to be rough.

Ashley: She brought it on herself.

Billy: We bring everything on ourselves.

Ashley: That's a cop-out.

Billy: You live and learn.

Ashley: You take responsibility for your actions.

Billy: People make mistakes. You can't beat up on them.

Ashley: You think I'm being too rough on her? What Colleen did is a big deal. Don't you realize that?

Amanda: What you were saying about the holidays being family.

Mackenzie: Look I know this is awkward for both of us.

Amanda: Do you want to go?
Mackenzie: No. It's just --

Amanda: I'm trying too hard. All right. Maybe we should play it safe, talk about the weather?

Mackenzie: Maybe that's a little too safe.

Amanda: Okay. What if I ask you about your father? I know that you're living with your grandmother. I assume you've had some contact with him.

Mackenzie: He was in town for a while. We got to know each other.

Amanda: I bet you two know each other really well.

Mackenzie: He's in Louisiana building housing for others.

Amanda: That's Brock, making the world a better place. Have you told him about --

Mackenzie: That you're here and we're talking?

Amanda: Yeah.

Mackenzie: No.

Amanda: I guess you figure there's no point until you know what the future holds.

Mackenzie: Yeah, something like that.

Amanda: Look, I'm sorry. I know I'm making you uncomfortable. Maybe we should just stick to the weather, okay?

Mackenzie: Or you know what? I could tell you about Billyís brother's wedding, if you want.

Amanda: Yeah.

Phyllis: Good morning, Mr. Abbott.

Jack: Good morning, Mrs. Abbott.

Phyllis: I will never tire of hearing you say that.

Jack: What, good morning?

Phyllis: No, Mrs. Abbott. You know what else I will never tire of?

Jack: My wit and my dashing good looks.

Phyllis: That too.

Katherine: I'm sure Nikki is as anxious to come home as you want her to come home.

Victor: So you're mind reading again, huh?

Katherine: Come on, Victor, don't tell me you don't miss the woman.

Victor: The family misses her. Christmas wasn't the same without her.

Katherine: I would love to have the family over for a wig get-together especially now that you and Nikki are as close as you are.

Victor: You had to bring that up, didn't you?

Katherine: Where you and Nikki are concerned, hope burns eternal especially in the hearts and minds. (Phone ringing)

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Hello.

Victor: Speak of the devil.

Nikki: Excuse me?

Victor: We're just talking about you.

Nikki: Uh-oh. Should my ears be burning?

Victor: The jet is on standby. Wally's ready to pick you up.

Nikki: That's not necessary. Casey's fine, but I can't come hope just yet.

Victor: Why not?

Nikki: It's just not possible.

Victor: That doesn't make sense. You said Casey is fine. Why can't you come home?

Nikki: There's something I have to take care of first.

Victor: Does this have something to do with Jabot?

Nikki: Victor, I have to go. Give my love to the family. I'll be home as soon as I can.

Paul: You really are a scum ball, Baldwin.

Michael: Spare me the righteous anger, especially from someone whose hands are hardly clean.

Paul: What are you talking about?

Michael: Isabella turned to someone else and now you feel protect -- protective or possessive? Did you think she might have taken advantage of me?

Paul: I don't think that's in the realm of possibilities.

Michael: You know, children were not in my game plan. If you hadn't led Isabella to believe she had some sort of future with you, she wouldn't have for love in all the wrong places.

Paul: Isabella and I broke up, it happens.

Michael: So does sex between consenting adults. You play, you pay. This won't stop you from blaming me this mess more than you and Christine.

Paul: This isn't about me. It's about Isabella. She seems to think you're going to do the right thing.

Michael: You're concerned, I won't follow through. Here's a news flash, Williams. I already have. I am paying for the lady's new apartment. She gets three squares and everything she needs. I'm doing the right thing.

Paul: For how long and at what price?

Michael: I have no idea --

Paul: You know exactly what I'm talking about, which is why I'm putting you on notice now. Whatever promises you made Isabella, you better live up to them. It's better for her to stand in a soup line somewhere than accepting one slimy cent from you.

Isabella: How did you get in here?

Lauren: I convinced your landlord to let me in.

Isabella: I -- really. I'll have to have a talk with him.

Lauren: How can you tell Paul Michael Baldwin is the father of your baby? It doesn't make you -- I'm sure he's over there right now confronting Michael.

Isabella: I know he is. I just left them together.

Lauren: He was there and you walked out? Do you have any idea how much they hate each other?

Isabella: Actually, I do. I know Michael is the last person Paul would want to hear is the father of my baby.

Lauren: You are still hanging on to that story.

Isabella: Initially, I thought the baby was Paulís. I met Michael at Jack Abbottís engagement party. I thought there was --

Lauren: Stop! One more word of this bull, I will go to Paul and we'll let him decide!

Billy: Ash, I don't want to argue.

Ashley: I don't either.

Billy: Obviously CeCe has to find a new school. Traci and Steve are working on that, right?

Ashley: Of course.

Billy: This break will be good for all of them.

Ashley: For Colleen to take responsibility for what she's done.

Billy: The fissure between Colleen and her parents are deeper than I thought.

Ashley: You don't think they will find their way back to each other?

Billy: It happens to parents and kids all the time.

Ashley: I have a feeling you're not talking about Colleen anymore.

Billy: I'm thinking about Mac and her situation too.

Ashley: What situation?

Billy: Her mom's in town. She's been here for a while.

Ashley: How's it going?

Billy: Mac's being cautious, which I don't blame her for. I thought they could have some relationship together, at least eventually.

Ashley: Are they patching things up?

Billy: I don't know. They're talking right now. They're at the coffeehouse. They're taking it one step at a time.

Ashley: Sweetie, you sound worried.

Billy: Seeing her mom stirred stuff up for Mac that she hasn't thought about in a while. It's tough having to go through all of that. Look, do you mind? I'd really like to get over there, see how Macís doing.

Ashley: Of course not. What's that?

Billy: It's a special gift for Mackenzie. Mac was telling me about this memory she had with her mom when she was a kid. It's basically a happy memory, but it reminded her of stuff she lost.

Ashley: That's to replace it?

Billy: It's worth a shot.

Ashley: Billy, you're such a sweet kid. Come here you sweet kid.

Billy: Thank you.

Ashley: Oh, thank you.

Billy: See you later.

Mackenzie: Jack and Phyllis wrote their own vows. It was amazing.

Amanda: Billy was the best man?

Mackenzie: He and Jack are really close. All the Abbotts are.

Amanda: You said the wedding was at their house.

Mackenzie: Mostly family, but the ceremony was formal.

Amanda: You must have been all dressed up, huh?

Mackenzie: My grandma brought me -- bought me this really great dress.

Amanda: I wish I could have seen you in it. What was it like?

Mackenzie: It was full length and maroon, kind of like my shirt and it had these ruffles that cut across.

Amanda: It sounds beautiful.

Mackenzie: It was. I think there's a picture. I could get you one.

Amanda: Really? I would love that. Thank you. I guess a wedding is the perfect way to start off the holidays, huh?

Mackenzie: Yeah. It got kind of busy with Christmas right after.

Amanda: Still, the holiday season is still going on for you, because of your birthday. Mackenzie, what is it? Did I say something wrong?

Diane: Nikki.

Nikki: I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time.

Diane: What on earth are you doing here? Don't tell me you just so happen to be in the neighbourhood.

Nikki: It's a small world.

Diane: Don't treat me like an idiot or Iíll return the favour.

Nikki: I made a few phone calls and found out where you were.

Diane: This can't be a social visit. Out with it, Nikki. What's the real reason?

Phyllis: All right. Here you go.

Jack: Oh. You temptress.

Phyllis: Who's the temptress, me or the chocolate?

Jack: What do you think?

Phyllis: This is the most amazing honeymoon.

Jack: We haven't left our bedroom in G.C., Honeymoon capital of the world.

Phyllis: It doesn't matter as long as you're in love. I am so in love.

Jack: And I am so in love with you, now and forever. What do you say we make it back to the bed?

Phyllis: Why? Do you want to make mad, passionate love to me? Is that why?

Jack: Have you got a better idea?

Phyllis: You know what? I don't want to kill the buzz, but I have a doctor's appointment in the afternoon. Iím starting the next phase of the hormone therapy.

Jack: How do you feel about that?

Phyllis: Um, I feel excited. I feel a little anxious. I'm not afraid of needles and I hear the higher dose of hormones can make you feel a little crazier.

Jack: Do you think Iíll notice the difference? Seriously, everything is going fine so far?

Phyllis: It's going okay. You know, I don't want to jinx anything but --

Jack: But we're on track for making our own baby.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. A baby you want more than anything. Not that I feel any pressure, of course. You've been very supportive and loving. You're the most devoted husband.

Jack: We're in this together. No matter what happens, I will always be there for you.

Phyllis: How did I get so lucky?

Jack: When you believe in fate, destiny, and kismet.

Phyllis: I believe in all three of those. More than that, I believe in our love.

Sharon: I made some tea, Nick. Here is yours.

Nicholas: I don't want tea.

Sharon: I had to make some herbal tea to calm my nerves.

Nicholas: You have to stop stalling. We have to talk about this.

Sharon: This will help.

Nicholas: Help what?

Sharon: Why are you so angry?

Nicholas: I'm not angry. I'm worried. Something's going on here, Sharon, something bad. Without one word to me, you did a paternity test on a baby that died. Why would you do that?

Sharon: I don't know. I mean, I can't explain it, Nick. I just had to know. If anyone would understand that, I would think you would.

Nicholas: You could have told me.

Sharon: No, I don't think so.

Nicholas: Why not?

Sharon: I wasn't really planning on ever telling you. I just thought knowing the truth somehow might make me feel better.

Nicholas: And that hasn't happened yet, has it?

Sharon: Nope.

Nicholas: All right, so what? What does all this mean to you?

Sharon: Well, I'm relieved to know that it wasn't Matt Clark's baby I was carrying around, thank God.

Nicholas: Yeah, thank God.

Sharon: But that I never really believed that it was. The results didn't exactly come as a surprise to me, Nicholas.

Nicholas: But you had the test done so there must have been some question for you.

Sharon: Your point?

Nicholas: We're not going to get into all of that again, okay? In case I haven't said this to you and I certainly have admitted it to myself, if I could do it all over again, I never would have asked you for that paternity test.

Sharon: But you did. You did ask me, didn't you?

Michael: Well, if it were, that's where Isabella would be, in a soup line.

Paul: That's a bunch of bull.

Michael: What's your contribution to the lady's welfare, except for dumping her and raging on the person that offered a helping hand. You want to be Isabellaís white knight.

Paul: No problem. You make sure you don't let her down.

Michael: Or Iíll have to answer to you?

Paul: You act so blasť. I know your so-called professional reputation means a lot to you.

Michael: Your point being?

Paul: You managed to fool a lot of people to keep your legal practice going. If you screw over Isabella, I will make sure everyone knows it, and that includes all your current clients and any future ones.

Michael: You're making threats now.

Paul: I don't make threats. You of all people, Baldwin, should know that.

Isabella: You're that sure you're right.

Lauren: The first time we talked, you were sure you were pregnant with Paulís child. I don't believe for one second you had an affair. Why are you telling Paul this lie?

Isabella: All right, it's true. I'm having Paulís baby, and I don't want him to know.

Lauren: Why? I don't understand why.

Isabella: Because he doesn't love me. Michael is a means to an end. I don't care how he feels about me. I won't use this to force Paul in a relationship he doesn't want to be in. Nor will I spend the rest of my life constantly looking over his shoulder to see how his precious Christine is. I don't have to just my -- justify myself to you. I was in a tough situation, alone and no way to support myself during this pregnancy.

Lauren: I see. You've convinced Michael he's the father of this baby and he will support you during this pregnancy and beyond.

Isabella: We're together, Lauren, for a time anyway. The point is, this is a short-term solution. I will worry about what happens after the birth later.

Lauren: I cannot believe you would go to such lengths.

Isabella: I'm doing what I have to for my baby.

Lauren: Has Michael asked for a paternity test?

Isabella: I beat him to it. Call it a tactical move.

Lauren: That will haunt you in the end.

Isabella: I know that.

Lauren: Do you think Michael is an idiot. Do you think he will sign up for a lifetime of responsibility without making sure that baby is his? What can I --

Isabella: What can I say? I am in a difficult position and I am doing the best that I can.

Lauren: And you expect me to keep quiet about this.

Isabella: I know you will because you don't want Paul involved in my life for your own self-servings.

Jack: Your husband has some surprises. I made plans for us for New Yearís Eve.

Phyllis: You did? I thought we would spend a quiet evening at home.

Jack: This is lovely. I thought it would be proper to bring in the New Year in a big way. I made reservations for the private dining room at the colonnade.

Phyllis: Nice.

Jack: And I have something to go with it.

Phyllis: You do?

Jack: Yes, I do. So what do you think?

Phyllis: I think it's lovely. I'm not sure if that's your colour.

Jack: Very funny.

Phyllis: You bought a dress for me to wear on New Yearís Eve?

Jack: I'm still trying to figure out your taste and it's not easy.

Phyllis: I think it is lovely, just beautiful.

Jack: Yes?

Phyllis: Yes.

Jack: Wow. How lovely, thank you.

Phyllis: There's more where that came from.

Jack: Yeah? I thought you had a doctor's appointment.

Phyllis: I do, but what I have in mind we'll have plenty of time.

Jack: Yeah?

Mackenzie: Why would you think something's wrong?

Amanda: When I lied about your birthday, I thought -- never mind.

Mackenzie: I'm going to get some coffee. Do you want a refill?

Amanda: No, thank you. Let me pick up it up.

Mackenzie: No, no. I get coffee free. I work here.

Amanda: You volunteer at the shelter and you have a job?

Mackenzie: Actually two jobs. I work a couple hours a week at the Jabot Glow by Jabot Boutique.

Amanda: That says a lot about your character. I'm so proud of you.

Billy: Hey, there you are. Everything okay?

Amanda: Yeah. Would you like to sit down?

Billy: Thanks, but I know you guys are still talking. I'll wait inside.

Mackenzie: So, I guess you're wondering how I'm feeling after this talk.

Amanda: Yeah.

Mackenzie: I'm not sure.

Amanda: I understand. If it's okay with you, Iíd like to let you know how Iím feeling. Reconnecting with you, even a little, means the world to me. So if you'll accept me being around, Iíd like to stay. So how long are you on vacation for?

Mackenzie: Until mid January.

Amanda: That's great. It means you can celebrate anything you want without worrying about school.

Mackenzie: So I'll talk to you again.

Amanda: Yeah, I'd like that.

Katherine: That's all Nikki said. She was delaying her homecoming because she was taking care of something?

Victor: It sounded like she was on a plane which means it has to do with Jabot.

Katherine: It's nothing to get upset about. Come on.

Victor: You know something? I don't think it has anything to do with business. It's a bit after holidays. Why would she want to stay away when she knows how much her family wants her to be here?

Nikki: Goodness, you're suspicious.

Diane: I wonder why.

Nikki: I admit we're not exactly the best of friends.

Diane: That's an understatement.

Nikki: Is that why you didn't see me when you were in Genoa City?

Diane: Are you hurt I didn't?

Nikki: No. Although when I heard you were in town, I thought I might see you.

Diane: Talking to you was the last thing I needed.

Nikki: Do you think it would have been an unpleasant encounter?

Diane: Yes.

Nikki: Too bad. I might have surprised you.

Diane: Nikki, Nikki, Nikki, you don't think I know where you're coming from? It's one thing to make sure I didn't have Victor's child. Don't insult my intelligence by making me think you have anything but poison to spew in my direction. Well, Nikki, arenít you going to tell me Iím wrong?

Woman: [ On phone ] Alta Mira investment services.

Mackenzie: So, I guess Iím going with Billy then.

Amanda: Mackenzie, I imagine you have some special plans for the rest of your holidays.

Mackenzie: Not really. I'm going to spend New Year's with Billy.

Amanda: That's all you have planned?

Mackenzie: Why?

Amanda: No reason. Just asking.

Mackenzie: Okay. Well, if I don't see you before, have a Happy New Year.

Amanda: Thanks. You too.

Mackenzie: Okay. Bye. Hi.

Billy: Hey. How'd it go?
Mackenzie: It went okay. Just really weird at the end. It seems my Mom was expecting something from me. I don't know. Maybe I was just imagining it.

Diane: I was right. You're here to harass me. I'm in Europe. Let's drop in on Diane; drag her down that dirty old memory lane. Forget it. I refuse to give you that satisfaction.

Nikki: Would you calm down? I didn't mean to upset you.

Diane: Right. I have to finish these sketches. Why don't you turn around and walk out that door, and we'll forget this impromptu visit never happens -- happened.

Nikki: I can't do that.

Diane: What do you mean you can't do that?

Nikki: I can't deny my part I played in your pregnancy. That's why Iím here, to tell you how badly I feel about that.

Nicholas: Sharon, you're really catching me off-guard here.

Sharon: Well, Nick, that's how I felt.

Nicholas: I am so, so sorry for everything that happened.

Sharon: I know. I know, but that doesn't change anything because our little girl is still dead.

Nicholas: That's what I was afraid of. You got the test done and you got the results and it brings back all these terrible, terrible memories, Sharon. You have got to let this go.

Sharon: I don't know -- I don't know if I can. I don't know if I ever will be able to. I don't think that I can ever just let it go.
