Tabitha: Well, they're upset with Norma and Edna because they didn't kill Miguel, thanks to you.
Tabitha: Oh, I know you didn't, sweet pea. And to be honest, neither did I.
Norma: [Stretching and yawning] Phew! Good morning.
Edna: Top of the morning to you, Tabby and Endora.
Tabitha: I don't know that it is such a good morning.
Norma: Why not? I think we are in the clear, Tabby. The boys in the basement must have given up on punishing us.
Edna: Yeah, I think so, too. 'Cause we didn't hear a peep out of them since last night.
Tabitha: You didn't?
Norma: No, not a sound. Looks like they are gonna let Edna and me slide on this one.
Tabitha: No, Norma, you two aren't sliding out of this one. How strong was the sleeping pill you took last night?
Edna: Sleeping pill?
Tabitha: Yeah, the house was rumbling and grumbling all night. Didn't you hear it?
Norma: No, I didn't.
Edna: Yeah, well, I heard noises, but I just thought it was my Normie snoring.
Norma: Oh, I'm sorry, muffin. Did I keep you up?
Edna: Well, I'm getting used to it. Sort of sings to me like a lullaby.
Tabitha: You gotta be joking.
Edna: No, I'm not. I like the sound of it just as I like Normie sleeping by my side.
Tabitha: Yes, yes. Well, I think we have heard quite enough about your sleeping habits.
Tabitha: Seems as though the boys in the basement have heard enough, as well.
Edna: What do you think they are going to do to us?
Tabitha: I have no idea. But I'm sure it won't be good.
Noah: Paloma, uh, you just said we have a lifetime together. Does that mean that you're finally ready to accept my proposal?
Paloma: Your proposal?
Noah: Yes. I'd be happy to do it again, if you like. Paloma, will you make me the happiest man on earth by agreeing to be my wife?
Paloma: Oh, Noah.
Noah: I love you, Paloma, and -- and I want to spend the rest of my life with you and -- and I know you want to spend the rest of your life with me or at least I thought so.
Paloma: I do love you, Noah.
Noah: Do you think that we are perfect together? I mean, we, you know, complete each other.
Paloma: Yes, we do.
Noah: Let's make it official. Why don't we, you know, shout out to the world that we are -- we are madly in love and -- and we plan to spend the next 60 or 70 years together as man and wife. So what do you say? Will you marry me?
Julian: What did you just say?
Eve: Our son is a murderer.
Julian: A murderer?
Julian: I don't understand. Who was he supposed to have murdered?
Eve: Not "supposed to have murdered" -- murdered. He killed Rae Thomas.
Julian: Well, why on earth would he kill her?
Eve: To punish Simone.
Julian: Wait, wait, wait. This doesn't make any sense. Why would our son kill someone to punish your daughter?
Eve: Because she grew up with me, and he didn't. Oh no, Julian, he did it. He killed Rae. And if I don't do something, Luis is going to be executed tonight for a crime he didn't commit.
Julian: But this is crazy.
Eve: It's horrendous, but I have to tell the authorities.
Julian: Wait, now just -- just slow down a moment.
Eve: Julian, our son killed Rae. No, I have to do something or Luis is going to be executed for a crime our son committed.
Whitney: I know how hard this must be for you. This must be a complete nightmare.
Theresa: Yes, I feel like I am supposed to wake up any minute now. But it's really happening, you know, Luis is gonna die.
Whitney: It -- it doesn't even seem real, you know, because everybody knows Luis is innocent.
Theresa: Of course he is innocent.
Whitney: You know, I've known Luis since, like, forever. And I used to fantasize that I had an older brother like him, you know.
Theresa: Yeah, he was like everyone's big brother.
Whitney: Yeah -- yeah, he really was.
Theresa: So you are about to have a big brother of your own, right?
Whitney: Yeah, it looks like it. I mean, the child that my mother and Julian thought was dead is actually alive and living here in Harmony.
Theresa: You're excited to meet him?
Whitney: I am. I am, actually. And now that my marriage to Chad is over, I was thinking that, you know, it would be kind of wonderful for Miles and the baby that I am carrying to have a good male role model. And maybe, you know, my brother would want to be a part of my children's lives.
Theresa: Yeah -- yeah, I'm sure he'll want that. He's been away from his family for so long. I'm sure he'll feel honored --
Theresa: To be a role model for your children.
Theresa: Excuse me.
Man: Theresa, I was wondering if you had a comment for me about your brother's execution tonight?
Theresa: How dare you, Vincent?
Whitney: Wha -- what does he want?
Vincent: I'm going to write a story with or without your comment, so you might as well give me something.
Theresa: I'm not going to give you anything.
Vincent: Just give me the quote.
Theresa: Ok, why don't you quote me on this.
Whitney: What did that scum want?
Theresa: He -- he wanted me to comment on my brother's execution.
Whitney: Well, you know what? I hope my brother takes care of him and teaches him a lesson.
Theresa: What happened? Is the governor going to give Luis a stay of execution? Is he going to live?
Valerie: Why is my door open?
Valerie: Hello? Is someone in here? I have a gun, so if you don't want to get shot, you better show yourself now.
Vincent: You have a gun? Right.
Valerie: Vincent, how did you get in here?
Vincent: I still have the key.
Valerie: Well, give it back to me. I want you to leave now.
Vincent: But I just got here.
Valerie: Vincent, we broke up. I don't want you here. Please leave.
Vincent: Sorry, no can do.
Valerie: What do you want? You and I are over, don't you get that?
Vincent: No, it's not over until I say it's over, Valerie.
Valerie: Please, Vincent, just -- just go.
Vincent: I'm not going anywhere, not until you give me what I want.
Valerie: Don't hurt me. Please, just don't do this.
Vincent: Shut up, bitch. You are not going anywhere.
Whitney: Did you reach the governor?
Theresa: What did he say? Is he going to stop the execution?
Ethan:: I haven't been able to talk to the governor.
Theresa: Is he sick or is he out of town or something?
Ethan:: They say he is unavailable. Besides, when my -- when my mother tried to talk about Miguel to him, he said that his hands were tied. So I think this blackmailer has a really powerful reach.
Theresa: We're gonna watch Luis die.
Ethan:: Theresa, hey, look at me. Don't say that. I'm going to ask you something. What are the odds that you and I would be together? What are they?
Theresa: Slim to none.
Ethan:: Exactly. But we are together, aren't we? And it's going to stay that way, isn't it?
Ethan:: So you are not going to give up hope. Your brother is going to beat the odds, he will. Just like we have beaten the odds.
Whitney: Ethan is right. I mean, it's early. There's still time.
Ethan:: It's true, it's true. I mean, the execution isn't until midnight. I mean, there is a good chance someone can track down the blackmailer by then.
Theresa: Right, or someone could come forward with some information.
Ethan:: That's right, that's right. He's gotta have some family. He's gotta have, you know, somebody he confides in.
Whitney: That's exactly right. And if that's true, let's hope that they, you know, take this monster to the police right away.
Theresa: That's right, we are gonna pray for that.
Julian: Eve, really, you can't be serious. You -- how can you believe that our son is a murderer?
Eve: Because he is. Because he told me that he did it.
Julian: I don't believe it.
Eve: Oh, I'm telling you that Luis is innocent. It's our son who killed Rae.
Julian: You really believe that?
Eve: Julian, I don't have any choice. He told me that he did. Why would he say that if it weren't true?
Julian: I have no idea. This is surreal, I mean, we finally find our son we've been searching for all these years who we thought was dead, and it turns out he's a killer?
Eve: I know, Julian. It is unbelievably awful. But we have to decide what to do.
Julian: What to do?
Eve: Yes, we can't let Luis die for something that he didn't do. They've moved his execution up. He's going to be given a lethal injection at midnight unless we do something.
Julian: All right, what happens to our son if we go to the police?
Eve: We'll save Luis, but we'll sacrifice our son. Oh, God, I don't know if I can do that.
Eve: But then I -- I can't live with Luis' death on my conscience. I can't let an innocent man be executed.
Edna: Wha -- wha -- what are we going to do?
Norma: We have to get out of here.
Tabitha: They're not gonna let you leave, Norma. Once the boys in the basement get upset like this, they are not going to stop until they are satisfied.
Edna: Oh, well, how -- how can we make it up to them? Oh, maybe we can make a deal.
Tabitha: Make a deal with the dark side? I don't think so. There's no Howie Mandel down there, you know.
Edna: Well, we've got to try. We so didn't know that we'd be spending the rest of our lives in the fiery depths of her basement.
Norma: Oh, but then we'd be together, right, Eddie?
Edna: That's right, Normie. They can't take that away from us.
Norma: Let's give it our best shot.
Edna: Hello, demon sir, we'd like to talk to you.
Tabitha: This ought to be good. Cue the violins.
Norma: We just want to be friends. I'm sure we can find a way to make it up to you. I know we disappointed you a little by not killing Miguel.
Edna: If you give us another chance, give us another assignment and we promise we will not let you down.
Norma: She's right. We definitely will not let you down again. Just tell us what you want -- what you want us to do and we'll do it.
Edna: Yeah, you know what? We could steal candy from children and then give it to people who are trying to diet.
Norma: Oh, or we could rearrange Father Lonigan's furniture and drive him nuts.
Edna: Oh no. Could you picture that poor, sweet, old kook trying to find the bathroom?
Norma: Whatever, you just tell us what you want us to do and I swear we're on it.
Edna: They gave us an assignment.
Norma: Oh, I knew this was going to work.
Tabitha: I don't know.
Norma: Oh no.
Tabitha: "No deal."
Edna: It didn't work, Normie.
Norma: I guess not.
Tabitha: Maybe Howie Mandel was down there after all.
Edna: I don't want to go back down there.
Norma: Neither do I. Oh, that NBC peacock's loud mouth.
Edna: Oh, God, it squawks all the time, makes a terrible noise.
Tabitha: I don't know what it's got to squawk about.
Norma: Don't worry, we'll think of something.
[Norma and Edna muttering]
Noah: Are you going to give me an answer?
Paloma: Noah, I am so honored that you asked me to marry you.
Noah: Uh-oh, I hear a but in there.
Paloma: But I can't think of anything except Luis right now. My brother is going to be executed tonight.
Noah: Look, I'm so sorry, Paloma, I'm sorry. Of course, I mean, how could you think about your future when your brother might not have one?
Paloma: I can't. My family is in such pain.
Noah: Isn't there anything that we can do?
Paloma: Well, I know Ethan was trying to reach the governor to ask for a stay of execution. But I don't know if he has had any luck.
Noah: This is just insane. I mean, that trial was a joke and they sentenced him to death on the same day, and now they moved up the execution so that Ethan: didn't even have a chance to have his appeals heard.
Paloma: I know. It's horrible. But don't give up on me, Noah. I -- I just need some time.
Noah: Hey, nobody is giving up. I love you, Paloma, and I will be here for you when you're ready.
Pilar: You should be ashamed of yourselves. Get up. Fighting like this.
Fancy: You're right. You're right, I just can't bear the thought of --
Pilar: No, I know, Fancy, neither can I. But unless some miracle happens, Luis is going to be executed tonight.
Sheridan: We can't let it happen, Pilar. We have to do something.
Pilar: Everything that can be done has been done. All we can do is just pray. I don't want Luis to die knowing that you were fighting like this.
Fancy: I'm sorry, Sheridan.
Sheridan: Yeah, me too.
Pilar: Good, now come with me. We're going to go cook all day and we're going to make Luis this amazing feast to take to him tonight, all right?
Fancy: Theresa told me she asked you to come here to cook so you could all be together.
Sheridan: Pilar, you know I am not really all that experienced in the kitchen.
Fancy: Yeah, neither am I.
Pilar: I will show you both what to do. Now let's go. Let's cook Luis the most amazing meal he has ever had. Come on.
Tabitha: What's all this?
Edna: Yeah, what are you going to do with all that stuff?
Norma: Shh, we tried to be nice. We tried to talk to them. But it didn't work. Heck, we failed. Now it's time to play hardball.
Tabitha: Play hardball with the boys in the basement?
Norma: Right, I'm going to nail that basement door shut. I'm going to close it up so tight that nobody -- I mean nothing, no matter who, no matter what's down there can't escape.
Edna: You tell them, Normie. I love it when you use your muscles.
Norma: I know you do.
Tabitha: Oh, brother.
Edna: Well, look, let's get to work. I'll help.
Norma: Oh, it's gonna work, Eddie. I just know it will.
Tabitha: What do you think, pumpkin? [Chuckles] You are wise beyond your years, my witchlet. Those two don't know what they're up against.
Theresa: Did you hear anything?
Ethan:: I just talked to the office, and there is nothing new right now.
Ethan:: But listen, as soon as I hear anything about our appeals, I will let you know, ok?
Ethan:: Where is Whitney?
Theresa: Um, she went to Valerie's house to warn her about Vincent.
Ethan:: Warn her, what do you mean warn her?
Theresa: I am not really sure. I mean, I guess Vincent showed up at the Russells' last night, and he started talking crazy and making all these threats and just -- Whitney has this feeling that maybe Valerie is in danger.
Ethan:: I don't know why Chad even hooked up with that jerk Vincent in the first place.
Theresa: He actually called here a little while ago. He wanted me to comment on Luis' execution.
Ethan:: What? That's unbelievable.
Theresa: Well, at least Chad ended his relationship with Vincent, right? So hopefully he'll just leave them alone, stay out of their lives forever.
Valerie: Vincent, stop, please stop. Why are you doing this?
Vincent: Ah, you know. You know exactly why you're being punished.
Valerie: No, I didn't do anything.
Vincent: Yes, you did, and it's all your fault! You thought you could get away with it, but I know what you did.
[Muffled] You told them. So now you have to pay.
Valerie: [Muffled] No, please, Vincent, stop!
Whitney: Oh, my God.
Valerie: Please, don't hit me!
Whitney: Oh, my God, Valerie's in danger.
Valerie: Oh, my God!
[Screaming and breaking glass]
Valerie: Vincent, stop, please stop!
Eve: What are we going to do, Julian?
Julian: I don't know. I have to think.
Eve: We don't have time, Julian. We don't have time to think. Not if we're going to save Luis' life.
Julian: Eve, you're being hysterical.
Eve: Of course I'm being hysterical! My son is a killer. Luis' family are our friends, and right now they are going through hell because they know that Luis is innocent, and they can't do anything to stop his execution. But I can, Julian. I can stop it!
Julian: Then why haven't you? Because you're choosing to save your own son's life instead.
Eve: Oh, God help me. Yes, I am that selfish. I am that horrible.
Julian: You are not horrible. You are a mother. Your feelings are totally understandable, and besides, we do not know for absolute certainty that he is a killer.
Eve: He said he killed Rae. Why would he lie?
Julian: People confess to crimes they didn't commit all the time as a way of getting attention. Perhaps he felt that he had to say bizarre things to get our attention.
Eve: And maybe he's just telling the truth, but I just can't do nothing, Julian. I have to call Sam. I -- I can't let Luis die for a crime he didn't commit.
Valerie: Stop it, please! Go away, leave me alone!
Whitney: Valerie! Valerie, honey, open the door.
Valerie: [Crying] Oh, my God, Whitney, thank God.
Whitney: Honey, what is going on? I -- I heard the screaming. I heard Vincent. Why is he beating up on you, honey?
Valerie: I don't know. He just went crazy.
Whitney: Where is he?
Valerie: He went out the back when he heard your voice.
Whitney: Ok, well, I'm -- I'm gonna call the police.
Valerie: No! Please, don't get the police involved. It'll just make Vincent madder.
Whitney: Valerie, look what he's done to you. He needs to be stopped, honey.
Valerie: I'm terrified of Vincent. Whitney, please, don't. He's insane.
Whitney: Ok, I -- I can see that. Now -- now why is he after you?
Valerie: He just keeps saying that his secret's out and -- and it's my fault that I told people his secret, but I swear I didn't tell.
Whitney: What -- what secret? Honey, what are you talking about?
Eve: Maybe Sam can help us figure out how to get help for our son, and -- and maybe the courts will be lenient and -- no, Julian, what are you doing?
Julian: I don't want you to call the police. Not just yet.
Eve: I have to, Julian. It's the right thing to do.
Julian: We cannot turn our son over to the police. He is a Crane. The press would be terrible. I can't afford that sort of publicity, not just now, especially since Theresa has signed my power back over to me.
Eve: Your power? How can you think about business when someone's life is at stake?
Julian: I have to protect the Crane empire. And name. Besides, we don't know for certain if he really is a killer.
Eve: He told me that he did it.
Julian: Perhaps he's emotionally unstable, psychologically unbalanced.
Eve: That would be an understatement.
Julian: As I said before, perhaps it's a cry for help. Maybe his confession is a -- is a ploy to get -- to get our attention. I mean, you've read about cases like this, haven't you?
Julian: As hard as it is to acknowledge, perhaps he's just a little bit crazy.
Eve's voice: Oh, Julian, if you only knew. It's more than just a little.
Noah: Mm, I don't know what you're cooking over there, but it smells great.
Paloma: Gracias. I think it's done, but I'm not sure. [Sighs] I wish my mom would get back. She'd know.
Theresa: So? Started without us?
Ethan: Smells really good, though.
Paloma: Mama's making Luis' favorite, enchiladas and tamales.
Theresa: Where is she?
Paloma: I don't know. She -- she thought she heard something.
Pilar: Oh, Theresita, good, you're here. And, Ethan, look who I found, Fancy and Sheridan. They're going to help us make this the best meal ever for Luis. Right, girls?
Ethan: You two are gonna cook. I got to see this. I really do.
Pilar: Well, they're gonna make a salad together.
Ethan: Good, 'cause they can't burn the salad.
Pilar: You start making the rice, Ethan.
Theresa: And I'll help.
Pilar: We're going to work, all of us together. For Luis, ok?
Theresa: Kind of reminds me when I was a little girl and we were, you know, getting ready to have a big party, and we'd all get together as a family in the kitchen and start cooking.
Pilar: Yes, Luis was always in charge of mixing the cornmeal for the tortillas, remember?
Theresa: I used to fight him for that job, but he'd always win, so Miguel and I had to clean up.
Paloma: It sounds wonderful. I'm sorry I wasn't there.
Pilar: Oh, mija. Palomita, we were always wishing that you were there during times like that.
Theresa: I wish Luis were here with us now.
Pilar: He is, mija, just like Antonio. He's in our hearts. No matter what happens tonight, Luis will always be in our hearts.
Norma: There, that ought to keep the beastie boys in the basement where they belong.
Edna: Oh, I got to hand it to you, Normie. You know how to use your noodle.
Norma: Man, nobody pushes me or my Eddie around.
Edna: You tell 'em, toots. Boy, if they were smart, they'll find somebody else to torture and not us anymore.
Norma: Ah, don't worry about it. They won't bother us again.
Tabitha: I don't want to rain on your parade, girls, but don't be too sure of yourselves. You must know by now that the forces in the basement are incredibly powerful.
Norma: We'll see if they have enough power to bust through this barricade.
Edna: Yeah, don't be such a wimp, Tabby. We got 'em beat.
Tabitha: Norma and Edna are about to eat their words, sweet pea.
Julian: Eve, I know you. You are a loving, wonderful mother, and you wouldn't just throw away the son that you've been searching for all these years.
Eve: Do you think that I want to do that, Julian? It just kills me to think about it. All those years of imagining our child and what our son would be like, but I didn't think it would be like this, just so devastating.
Julian: It doesn't have to be.
Eve: But it is, Julian. Even when Chad and Whitney were together and we thought they had committed incest, it wasn't this terrible. All I wanted was to know that my son was all right. I just wanted to bring him into our lives and just have a normal relationship. I didn't want this. I -- I wish that we had never even looked for him.
Julian: What -- what are you -- you don't mean that.
Eve: Yes, yes, I do mean it. I wish that he had never come to Harmony.
Julian: Wait a minute. What is it? There's -- there is something more, isn't there?
Eve: Oh, Julian.
Julian: There -- there's something that you're -- you're not telling me. There's something you're -- you're hiding from me about our son.
Whitney: Valerie, what secret are you talking about? If it's that Vincent is gay, I mean, he was sleeping with my husband, so trust me, he couldn't wait to tell me all about it. That secret's already out.
Valerie: His being gay isn't it. I mean, I just found out myself, but I swear I didn't tell anyone.
Whitney: Then what is it, honey? What did you find out?
Whitney: I don't think I should tell you.
Whitney: Well, if you're worried about protecting me from Vincent, don't, because I can take care of myself.
Valerie: No, that's not it. It's just -- it'll be a terrible shock for you, Whitney.
Whitney: For me? Well, what, are you going to tell me that Chad and Vincent are sleeping together again?
Valerie: No, no.
Whitney: Ok, then what is it? Valerie, tell me.
Valerie: Whitney, he's your brother.
Whitney: My brother? No, Valerie, we thought Chad was my brother, but then we found out that was nothing but a lie.
Valerie: I'm not talking about Chad. I'm talking about Vincent. He's your brother.
Whitney: Vincent. What, are -- are you serious right now?
Valerie: I'm sorry, Whitney. I told you it was going to be a terrible shock.
Whitney: Wait, so -- no. No, that -- that can't be true.
Valerie: Vincent is the child that your mother and Julian thought was dead.
Whitney: No, no, I -- I think I better go.
Valerie: Whitney, wait!
Edna: What is it? What does it mean?
Norma: What's going on?
Tabitha: I'm afraid the boys in the basement are laughing at your pitiful barricade. They're coming to get you.
Edna: They're coming to get us?
Tabitha: Yes, siree.
Edna: No, I don't want to go back down in the basement! Help, Norma! Get us out of here!
Norma: Ok, they can't hurt us if they can't catch us. Let's go!
[Norma and Edna screaming]
Whitney: Vincent's my brother. He's the one my mother's been searching for all these years. No, no, no, this can't be.
Valerie: Vincent is the child that your mother and Julian thought was dead. Vincent's your brother.
Whitney: Dear God, this -- no, this can't be happening. Vincent cannot be my brother. He can't be.
Julian: I know you too well, Eve. There's something -- there's something about our son that you're not telling me. What is it?
Eve: Believe me, Julian, you don't want to know.
Julian: Oh, yes, I do want to know. He's my son. Now, why can't you tell me?
Vincent: What's this I'm interrupting? Family argument?
Julian: Well, what the hell are you doing here? We're having a -- a personal conversation. Now, get out!
Vincent: Now, that's not very friendly of you.
Julian: It wasn't intended to be friendly. Last thing I need is for some sleazy tabloid reporter to be listening to my personal business. Now, why don't you go crawl back under your rock?
Vincent: Oh, dear. You see, now you've hurt my feelings.
Julian: Your feelings? I don't give a damn about your feelings.
Vincent: I thought you loved me, daddy dearest.
Eve: Julian, meet Vincent, our son.
Vincent: Hey, daddy-O.
Sheridan: Look at all this food.
Fancy: Luis will be so happy to have something other than prison food for his...
Pilar: For his last supper.
[Woman singing in Spanish]
Noah: Sit down.
Pilar: [Crying] Oh, my God. My son. How can I lose another son?
Theresa: Mama, listen.
Pilar: Oh, God. No, no, no, I can't do this. I can't do this. We have to stay strong for Luis. All of us.
Fancy: I don't -- I don't think I can do that, Pilar.
Pilar: Yes, you can. Yes, you can. Luis loves you. He needs you to be strong. Come on.
Theresa: It's just kind of hard, you know, to accept the fact that we're gonna lose him, Mama.
Paloma: I just got to know him. He was so hard on us at the police academy, remember? But now I know it was because he wanted to keep us safe.
Fancy: Yeah, you're right. He was just making sure we can take care of ourselves.
Paloma: How can this be happening? Luis is innocent, and this country is supposed to protect the innocent.
Ethan:: Ah, it's not -- it's not the country, Paloma. We all know who's responsible for this whole thing.
Theresa: It's the blackmailer, and -- and we're gonna find him.
Sheridan: What if we find the blackmailer, and it's too late? I've lost everyone in my life that matters. I -- I can't lose Luis, too.
Pilar: Even though everything doesn't look very good right now, we can't lose hope. We have to stay strong. We have to pray for a miracle to save Luis.
Radio announcer: This special bulletin just in. The governor has just rejected the latest request for a pardon in the case of Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, convicted of first-degree murder and set to be put to death at midnight tonight. The execution will take place as planned.
On the Next Passions:
Ethan: My request for a stay of execution was rejected.
Whitney: Your lover is my brother.
