Tabitha: Forgive me for going high-tech for a while there, but let me tell you--mortals' machines can't hold a candle to dark side hocus pocus. Now, zoom in on Kay, if you please. I'm afraid Kay will get herself into trouble with Fox if she gets caught up in Theresa's latest plan to woo Ethan away from Gwen. Come on, bowl, show me Kay. Ah. Kay, Fox. You're back?
Kay: Yeah. How's Maria?
Tabitha: Oh, she is sleeping like a lamb; so is Endora. Oh, Fox, I'm sorry to hear about your sister's accident.
Fox: Thanks, Tabitha. I just hope that Fancy doesn't lose her eye.
Tabitha: Oh, that would be terrible. But then there is no shame in wearing an eye patch. Pirates do it all the time.
Fox: Thank you, Tabitha. You always seem to know just what to say. I am going to go hit the shower before we hit the hay, ok?
Kay: Ok. I am just going to get a glass of water and I'll be up in a sec.
Kay: Well, good night.
Tabitha: Your big mouth's going to land you in it yet, missy, huh?
Kay: What did I do now?
Tabitha: You helped Theresa conceive yet another plan to break up Ethan and Gwen.
Kay: Not on purpose. You're spying on me at work?
Tabitha: Right. I wanted to make damn sure that you wouldn't succumb to love and get engaged to Fox before the planets are realigned.
Kay: Look, you don't have to worry, ok? I learned my lesson. I won't put my future with Fox in jeopardy again, ok?
Tabitha: I hope not--for your sake.
[Sighs] Something tells me that Kay will put her future with Fox in jeopardy. How she mucks it up this time remains to be seen.
Gwen: Isn't this the best news?
Ethan: It's fantastic. It's--I'm very happy for you.
Gwen: Honey, I'm happy for us. You know, if I get hired, it will take the pressure off of you just needing to accept something so you'd put food on the table and...you know, in fact--you wouldn't even need to work if you don't want to. Because I'd be making enough to support us and Jane.
Ethan: Honey, don't you think you're getting a little ahead of yourself?
Gwen: Probably, yes. But I do think I should go online and check out what Collier and Company has been working on lately.
Ethan: Yeah, look, don't--don't feel bad if you're a little intimidated by what you see, though, ok? Because you've been out of the work force a while, Gwen, and things have changed, that's all.
Gwen: Oh, honey, I am really not worried, you know. Collier would be very lucky to have me. Besides, if I get hired, we wouldn't need to put our dreams on hold any longer, you know. We'll be able to buy a house, start a college fund for Jane, and we would no longer be at Theresa's mercy.
Theresa: Ok. All I have to do now is make sure that Collier and Company hires Gwen. Now that Ethan doesn't have a job until his contract is up, he should be furious and frustrated that Gwen is making more money than he is. Not to mention the fact that she's choosing to work instead of being a full-time mother to his daughter. I guess it won't be long before Ethan does leave Gwen, comes back to me, and brings Jane with him.
Pilar: What is it now, Katherine?
Rachel: Don't talk to my sister that way.
Pilar: Stay out of this, Rachel.
Martin: Listen, can we please not fight?
Theresa: Now, what's going on?
Pilar: I'll tell you. Your father and I are trying to plan tomorrow's ceremony when Katherine and Rachel come back, knowing full well I don't want them here. Every time I turn around, I find Katherine lurking, waiting to make another desperate play at Martin.
Rachel: Katherine and I came in here to have a sherry, and your mother started right in on us, demanding that we leave. Only you don't live here. We do.
Martin: Honey, listen, it's no big deal. The ceremony has everyone a little on edge. Things will be calmer after, you know, tomorrow.
Theresa: Well, of course, Papa. You two are renewing your vows tomorrow in front of friends and family and God. And then everyone will know that you two are committed to each other for life.
Miguel: Kay, it's Miguel. Hope I'm not calling too late.
Kay: No. No, actually I was just getting ready for bed.
Miguel: I'm sorry I haven't called in a while, but I've been on the move a lot lately.
Kay: Still looking for Charity?
Miguel: Yeah. What gets me is how close I keep coming to finding her, but at the very last, she always disappears.
Kay: That must be hard for you.
Miguel: It is. But I keep hoping I'll catch up to her soon.
Kay: If I had a nickel for every time you said that. Well, who knows--maybe your luck will change.
Miguel: Maybe. So, how are you and Maria doing?
Kay: We're good.
Miguel: She looked great in the pictures that you e-mailed me. I can't believe how much she has grown.
Kay: I know, it's crazy, isn't it? Sometimes I look at her and she looks just like you. Well, she's beautiful just like her dad.
Miguel: It's nice of you to say that.
Kay: Well, it's true. It's true. Gosh, I just wish you could see her in person now. I mean, those pictures, they can't really capture how amazing she is.
Miguel: I want to see Maria. Believe me, I do. Before she forgets me. But I keep thinking I'm so close to finding Charity.
Tabitha: You'll not find Charity on my watch, Romeo. Nothing's changed in terms of you doing the deed with blondie. As a matter of fact, I've kept you from finding her all this time because if she knows your sweet loving, then she might come into her full powers of goodness--putting me and Endora and dark-siders everywhere in danger. And we can't let that happen, can we? Maybe Kay can convince Miguel to give up his quest to come home, see Maria. On the other hand, stud boy's return could cause a number of unforeseen consequences, all of them beneficial to the dark side.
Gwen: Collier and Company does the kind of work that I love to do. I mean, they have a lot of Far East acquisitions.
Ethan: It's, uh--it's right up your alley, honey.
Gwen: It's like this job was tailor-made for me.
Ethan: Yeah. Listen, are you sure you didn't send these people a resume?
Gwen: You know, babe, if I did, it was years ago. Why?
Ethan: I just find it funny that you get a call out of the blue for an interview that seems to be your dream job.
Gwen: Hmm. A minute ago, you were saying what a wonderful reputation I had and that any head hunter worth his commission would have my name on file. Would you like to make a retraction, counselor?
Ethan: No. I'm just saying that the timing of this whole thing is--it's... you know what it is--it's amazing. It's amazing.
Gwen: I know it is. Just when we find out that you can't do any legal work because Theresa is going to hold you to your Crane contract, this interview just falls in my lap. Except for not shooting Theresa with a bolt of lighting yet, God works in mysterious ways.
Ethan: Mysterious, yes he does.
Theresa: Oh. Oh, my gosh. You know what I just realized? Mama, you got to stay here tonight. Papa, you have got to stay at your house.
Theresa: Why? It is bad luck for the groom to see the bride on the day that they say "I do" to each other.
Pilar: You're right. You're absolutely right.
Theresa: Come on, let's go, Papa. Out of here. We can't risk you being here past midnight. Come on, let's go.
Katherine: Martin, may I speak with you, just for a moment, before you leave?
Martin: What about?
Pilar: Whatever it is, I'm sure it can wait till tomorrow. Martin? Sleep well, sweetheart.
Martin: You, too.
Pilar: God, I love you so much. You're my husband now and always.
Martin: I love you, too.
Pilar: I can't wait until tomorrow. Oh, Father Lonigan is going to marry us again in front of God and all the people we love.
Martin: It's--it's all I've been thinking about.
Pilar: Sweet dreams. Oh no, Katherine. I'm not going to let you ruin this for us tomorrow. There is no way you're going to come between us ever again.
Theresa: Not so fast, ladies.
Theresa: Please, please, sit down. I insist. You comfortable?
Rachel: Quite comfortable.
Theresa: Good. Because I think you should enjoy this feeling because the next time either one of you tries to come between my parents, I won't hesitate to throw you out on the street.
Rachel: There is no need to be rude, Theresa.
Theresa: Oh, I think I'm being nice, actually, considering I'm the new Mrs. Alistair Crane. Right? Which leads me to my next point. We have all had Alistair. Or shall I say he has had us. So, I deeply empathize with the two of you. Now, Katherine, you're Julian and Sheridan's mother. And you are their aunt. So you're family; you've got every right to be here.
Katherine: Thank you, Theresa.
Rachel: Of course we do.
Theresa: Yes, you have every right to be here, as long as you respect my wishes. Simply leave my parents alone. Do not come between them. If you do, I won't think twice about having you both shipped back to Boston in matching pine boxes.
Katherine: God, that's an awful thing to say.
Theresa: Oh, it's fair warning. You leave my mother and father alone, or else...
Pilar: Yes, and Katherine, one more thing--remember to be some place else other than here tomorrow. I mean, I can't imagine that you would like to see Martin take me as his wife again.
Theresa: And you could keep your sister company.
Pilar: Yeah, Rachel, do that.
Theresa: Shall we? Good night, ladies. And please don't forget to turn the lights off before you leave. Because unlike the two of you living here, electricity--it isn't free.
Ethan: Um--honey, look. If Collier makes you an offer you can't refuse, you know you are not going to be able to spend as much time with Jane as you do now.
Gwen: I know, and I'm really going to miss that. Honey, you'll be there for her.
Ethan: True, but what happens when I get a job? Hmm? It's not like--it's not like I'm going to ask your mother to baby-sit. Rebecca--she's going to take Jane's juice, she's going to mix it with vodka and drink it herself.
Gwen: Well, you're probably right. Listen, let's not even worry about that right now. Because if I do get this job and go back to work, honey, you're not going to be able to work until your contract with Crane expires. And that's--that's still a while.
Ethan: I just--I don't like loose ends, ok? Especially where my daughter is concerned.
Gwen: She's just your daughter?
Ethan: I'm sorry--our daughter, Gwen. I am sorry.
Gwen: What are you doing? Why are you being like this?
Ethan: Like what, what do you mean?
Gwen: You're pick--you're picking on me. You're just trying to look for trouble where there isn't any. Do you not want me to go back to work?
Kay: So, I heard you're not coming home to see your parents renew their vows tomorrow.
Miguel: I hoped I could, but it's not going to work out after all.
Kay: I'm sorry. I know your parents will be, too.
Miguel: Mama had her heart set on it. But I can't be in two places at the same time, Kay. And like I said, I'm too close to finding Charity to give up now.
Kay: Well, it's your call. I mean, I wish you could come though. You know, Alistair made it so that Theresa is in charge of Crane Iindustries?
Miguel: I heard.
Kay: Well, who knows--if you come back, maybe she could use her power to help you find Charity.
Tabitha: Don't give him any ideas, Kay.
Miguel: I'm sure she could, but I don't want Theresa's help.
Kay: Ok, whatever. I just--I don't know, I just really wish you would come home. We've all missed you so much. Maria, too.
Miguel: I have to go now. I'll call you when I'm able to make it home.
Kay: Ok, Miguel. Good luck.
Miguel: Thanks. Tell Maria I love her.
Kay: I will. God, why is he so determined to find a woman who doesn't want to be found?
Tabitha: Will Kay never her lesson? Two men and a child who both men love... and a woman who loves both men. Mm, it's a recipe for disaster, if ever I heard one.
Kay: After all this time, Miguel is still chasing after Charity. I mean, what does she have that I don't? Oh well--oh well, I love Fox now. I don't know, it's just sad that he's still chasing after her. If she wanted to be with him, she would be. Oh well, I mean, there's nothing I can do about it. It's just a shame. It's a shame that he loves somebody who doesn't love him. Because he is such a great guy. He can make someone so happy.
Ethan: Maybe I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this idea that you have possibly been offered this dream job, and--you know, I can't even get an interview for one lousy job.
Gwen: Well, honey, I'm very sorry about that.
Ethan: It's all right. Don't be sorry. You should be happy. You should be happy. And I'm happy for you, I really am. It's just that things aren't turning out the way I thought they would.
Gwen: Well, is it really that bad?
Ethan: No, it's not bad. It's just different, that's all. I just thought once our careers settled down, you would stay home with the kids. I would be the provider, the breadwinner. And now it's just--
Gwen: You know what? Listen, our roles are going to be reversed for a very short time. You're going to be in a corner office with a fabulous view in no time. I know you will.
Ethan: Yeah, I hope so.
Gwen: This isn't your fault. You do know that, right? This is Theresa's fault. And listen, honey, the thought of me going back to work is very exciting. I love getting to put on nice suits and fabulous shoes and be creative and use my great education, you know? Being a full-time mother is absolutely wonderful. It is. But so is having a career. And the occasional martini at lunch on a corporate expense account.
Ethan: Those were the days.
Gwen: Listen, this job is going to be a great change for both of us.
Ethan: Yeah, I suppose. You know, more men nowadays are stay-at-home dads.
Gwen: Well, I know that you are going to make Jane and me very proud, big daddy. Take this beautiful girl. I'm going to go look for a suit to wear tomorrow. Ok, princess?
Ethan: Wish it were me.
Gwen: What did you say?
Ethan: I said, I wish you luck.
Gwen: Well, thank you.
Rachel: Katherine, I warned you not to wait until the last minute to make your play for Martin. And now he's gone for the night, along with your chance to make him realize that you two belong together.
Katherine: I know, I know, I know. I'm not good at going for what I want. I'm trying. But Theresa standing there ready to pounce didn't make it any easier.
Rachel: Yeah, she is a clever one. Making her father go home to stay in his house for the night. Katherine, I hate to say it, but it may be too late to stop him from recommitting to Pilar.
Katherine: Oh no, no, it can't be, Rachel.
Rachel: In less than a day he's going to renew his vows with Pilar in front of his family, his friends, and God. After that, he will never leave her.
Katherine: You're right. It's true, Martin is a man of his word.
Rachel: If you're serious about winning him back, you better do something and you better do it fast.
Katherine: You're right. I do still have a chance. Rachel, I'm going to give it everything I've got.
Pilar: I have to say, that was very smart of you to have your father leave this house. Now I know Katherine won't be able to make a move on him every 3 minutes.
Theresa: Now, Mama, you cannot be too careful when it comes to the man you love. Now, if my history with Ethan has taught me anything, it's that you've got to fight fire with fire. And if you love Papa...
Pilar: I do.
Theresa: And you want to be with him...
Pilar: I do.
Theresa: Then I suggest that you go upstairs and you get a good night's sleep. And tomorrow, you'll be the most beautiful bride who has ever walked down the aisle.
Pilar: You're absolutely right. And Theresa.
Pilar: Thank you, mi hija. Thank you for everything you're doing so that--so that this day would be so special for me.
Theresa: Of course, it's my pleasure.
Pilar: Oh. Thank you.
Theresa: Let's go. Sleep well. That's an order.
Theresa: I love you.
Pilar: I love you. Good night, my angel.
Theresa: Good night, Mom. That's right, Mama, when you love someone, you do what you have to do to get them back, no matter who gets hurt. Yes, may I speak to Mr. Collier, please? This is Mrs. Alistair Crane calling. I understand it's late, but he'll take my call if he knows what is good for him.
Theresa: Mr. Collier? I'm so glad that I caught you.
Mr. Collier: Will this take long, Mrs. Crane? My wife is furious that I worked so late tonight.
Theresa: I just wanted to personally thank you for agreeing to interview Gwen Winthrop tomorrow.
Mr. Collier: Yes, the head hunter insisted I meet with Mrs. Winthrop. I must say her resume looks impressive.
Theresa: Well, I'm so glad that you think so. Because Gwen is smart, she is savvy, she is a real work horse. Now, once you hire her--well, she can stay late, freeing you up to be with your wife and your family.
Mr. Collier: Excuse me, Mrs. Crane, but I didn't promise to hire Mrs. Winthrop. I agreed to meet with her. Jobs at my company are hard to come by. Unlike Crane Industries, people enjoy working at Collier and Company. So, we have a very low turnover rate, especially at the upper management level. Frankly I don't have room for Mrs. Winthrop right now.
Theresa: Well then you'll have to make room.
Mr. Collier: Excuse me?
Theresa: I want you to hire Gwen Winthrop, and you will.
Gwen: Ok. So, I narrowed it down to these two. Which one do you like?
Ethan: They are both very nice, sweetie.
Gwen: Honey, of course they are nice. That's why I bought them. But which one should I wear? I mean, what do you think? Knock their socks off.
Ethan: I don't--why don't you just leave them both out? You can choose one in the morning, decide which one is best then.
Gwen: What's going on with you? It's not like you not to have an opinion.
Ethan: I'm--nothing. Nothing is wrong. I'm just--well, I'm wondering what Jane and I are going to be doing while you're out, you know, re-conquering the business world.
Gwen: This is really bothering you, isn't it?
Ethan: No, it's not. I'm fine.
Ethan: Ok, I'm not fine. I'm upset. I can't believe that you're the one that's going to work and I'm going to stay here. I'm feeling inadequate, Gwen, as a father, as a husband, as a man. I'm...
Gwen: Let me tell you there is nothing and I mean nothing inadequate about you whatsoever.
Ethan: Thank you. That's--thank you. But I can't find work.
Gwen: But it's not your fault, honey. It's Theresa's fault. She's holding you to your contract with Crane, so you can't get hired anywhere else until it expires.
Ethan: You know, she is relentless. You know that? She's--you know what, she's not even hiding it anymore. She used threats. She used money and power; she threw it at me. She used everything she could to try to get me to work with her at Crane. And when I refused--you know what, the bride of Alistair just turned on me the same way that that old man would. You know--damn Theresa. I don't--I can't believe she's doing this to us. Why are you smiling?
Gwen: Because you finally see her for the selfish, manipulative little bitch that she actually is, ok? And listen to me--as for what she's done to us--she has brought us much closer together. That's what she has done. Because we're still here. We're still together. We have Jane. And, honey, this new job is going to finally get us out from under Theresa's thumb.
Miguel: Kay, you look beautiful.
Kay: Miguel, what are you doing here?
Miguel: You said I should come home to see Maria, so I did. You were right, Kay. The pictures you e-mailed me did her no justice. We have a beautiful daughter. Beautiful just like her mother.
Kay: Thanks. Did you ever find Charity?
Miguel: No. And I'm through looking for her. I belong here in Harmony with Maria and you.
Kay: I thought Charity was your soul mate.
Miguel: I thought so, too. But seeing Maria--seeing you like this made me realize I made a mistake leaving you in the first place. I belong here with you and our daughter, Kay. That is, if you'll have me.
Kay: God, I've waited so long for you to ask me that. But now I'm with--
Miguel: Me again. This time for keeps.
Kay: Oh, Miguel.
Fox: Kay, did you say something? Must have been my imagination.
Martin: Katherine. What are you doing here?
Katherine: Martin, I came to beg you not to renew these vows with Pilar tomorrow. You'll be making the biggest mistake of your life.
Martin: Please don't say that.
Katherine: Martin, you know it's true. You love me. I love you. We belong together. You and Pilar...don't. Not anymore.
Katherine: Martin, please stay with me. Be with me.
Theresa: For starters, Gwen Winthrop is more than qualified to work at Collier and Company. Now, I assure you--once you hire her, you'll be glad that you did. I mean, I cannot say enough wonderful things about her.
Mr. Collier: If Mrs. Winthrop is so fabulous, why don't you give her a job at Crane?
Theresa: Oh, that's a long story. Let's just say that I'm doing Gwen Winthrop a personal favor-- payback for all the things that she has done for me over the years.
Mr. Collier: Your generosity is duly noted, Mrs. Crane. What's in it for me?
Theresa: If you promise to hire Gwen Winthrop after your interview with her tomorrow, then I can personally see to it that Collier and Company is awarded every Crane contract that you bid on... whether you are the low bid or not.
Mr. Collie I must say that's some payback
Theresa: Well, I'm a firm believer in payback, Mr. Collier, especially when it comes to Gwen Winthrop.
Gwen: Honey, please be happy for me. Because, you know, we can live and we can live very well off of my salary until you go back to work.
Ethan: I know you're right. I know you're right and I really am happy. I'm happy for you; I'm happy for us.
Gwen: Really? Really?
Ethan: Honey, spending time with you and Jane is the most important thing in the world to me. It really is. I'm just worried about how Jane is going to react when her mommy is not at home. We always planned on having you at home with the kids.
Gwen: I'm only going to work until you find a job.
Ethan: Don't get me wrong. I'm--I'm grateful that you're willing to step up to the plate and support our family at this time. But I'm just a little upset at the way things have turned out.
Gwen: Honey, I'm going to keep saying it until you understand that this is not your fault. This is Theresa's fault.
Ethan: You're right. I know you're right.
Gwen: And you know what I want you to do? I want you to enjoy this time with Jane, ok. Think of it as a gift. Because I know that I'm going to really miss her. And I know I'm going to appreciate her a lot more when I start staying home again after you go back to work. But right now, one of us has to make a paycheck.
Ethan: I just wish there was a way we could make Jane understand that Mommy isn't going to be around as much anymore.
Tabitha: I wonder what Kay is dreaming about.
Kay: Miguel, stop. We shouldn't be doing this. I mean, I love Fox and he loves me, and we're going to be married.
Miguel: You're not married yet.
Kay: I know--I know, but--oh, God, that feels good.
Miguel: I'm just getting started.
Kay: Miguel, stop. Fox won't like this.
Miguel: Because you would rather be with me than him?
Kay: That's not what I meant. Oh--mm--mm. Stop. Fox--he's going to be really mad. Miguel--Fox--Miguel--Fox.
Fox: That must have been some dream you were having.
Kay: Why--why would you think that?
Fox: The way you were yelling out. That was intense.
Kay: I was yelling out in my sleep?
Fox: You kept yelling out a man's name.
Martin: No. This isn't right.
Katherine: Oh yes, it's right. We love each other, Martin.
Martin: And--and I love Pilar.
Katherine: Not the way you love me.
Martin: Pilar is my wife. I wouldn't be renewing my vows with her tomorrow if I didn't love her.
Katherine: Don't lie to me, Martin. Don't lie to yourself. You're renewing these vows because you feel guilty because you left her years ago.
Martin: Of course I feel guilty. It's more than that.
Katherine: Martin, you shouldn't do this ceremony because you feel obligated. It's not fair. To you. To Pilar. Pilar deserves true happiness, true love. So do you, Martin. You deserve the love and the happiness that we have.
Martin: I've cheated Pilar out of so many years. I owe her what time we have left.
Katherine: Darling, you're so loving, so noble. But Pilar is not going to be happy if you're not happy. And you won't be if you stay with her.
Martin: I'm marrying Pilar.
Katherine: But you love me. We were together for years, Martin, loving each other so much longer than you were with Pilar. We know each other through and through. Puerto Arena--all those memories of each other. They're too precious to bury. You love me, Martin, and you know it.
Martin: I don't deny that.
Katherine: Well, don't deny yourself the happiness, the love, the future we deserve.
[Whispering] Be with me, Martin. My love, be with me.
[Knock at door]
Pilar: Martin, are you in there?
Kay: I called out a man's name in my sleep?
Fox: Not just any man's name.
Kay: Look, I can explain. Ok, when you were in the shower--
Fox: You dreamed that you were taking a shower with me. And you know how it is when we take showers together--you get steamy. And I'm not talking about the water. And when we do, you usually call my name out, just like you did now.
Kay: Of course I called out your name, honey. Who else would I be making love to in my dreams?
Tabitha: Me thinks Ms. Kay is lying. It wasn't Fox who came into her dreams; it was Miguel. You have to be careful, Kay. If Fox realizes that Miguel isn't out of your system, you could end up with no one keeping you warm at night.
Theresa: Well, Mr. Collier, do we have a deal?
Mr. Collier: Absolutely, Mrs. Crane.
Theresa: Pleasure doing business with you. Oh, and remember not to say a word of this to Gwen. Let's just keep this our little secret.
Mr. Collier: Gladly. The amount of money my company will make from doing business with Crane will more than cover Mrs. Winthrop's salary.
Theresa: Wonderful. You get back to that wife of yours. Because nothing is more important than family. Mm. This is interesting... different. Having money and power to get what you want. You can pay people off, like I did with Collier. And you can intimidate them, like I did with Katherine and Rachel. Well, tomorrow Mama and Papa will be renewing their vows. And Gwen will be hired to do a job that is going to take over her life. And knowing Ethan, he's going to want Jane to have a full-time mother, which is where I come in. Which will lead Ethan and our daughter back to me.
Gwen: Listen, I agree that Jane deserves to have a full-time mother. And, honey, she will. Just not right now. As soon as you're able to support us again, I'll be happy to stop working and stay home with Jane.
Ethan: What if it takes me a while to find a job?
Gwen: Jane will be better off for having you around.
Ethan: I hope you're right.
[Knock at door]
Pilar: Martin, answer me. You're not already asleep, are you?
Martin: No. I'm not. Hide.
Katherine: No, Martin, it's time that Pilar find this out before the ceremony tomorrow.
Martin: Pilar, wait.
Pilar: Oh, my God.
On the Next Passions:
Maya: Noah, they want us all dead.
Ethan: It's Gwen and me and our marriage--it's completely falling apart.
