{Chris: I love you, Sheridan. You're so easy to love. I've never met another woman with a soul so pure and a heart so big. We've both been hurt, we've both lost so much, and yet we must have done something to please God because he's given us another chance at happiness. Marry me, Sheridan. Say yes. Will you be my wife? }

Sheridan: Am I wrong not to accept Chris' proposal? Am I making a mistake? Should I just take a chance and say yes? I do love him.

Tabitha: Oh, Fox. You do look handsome.

Fox: Thank you, Tabitha.

Tabitha: Come in, dear. Kay is still getting dressed. Oh, what lovely flowers. Are they for Kay?

Fox: Yes. I think they're her favorites. I know she's going to yell at me about the box of chocolates, getting her fat. But, what the heck? Valentine's Day only comes once a year, huh?

Tabitha: Yes, isn't that a shame. Ridiculous custom--all those hearts and cupids and flowers. So, do you have something big planned for tonight, Fox?

Fox: Absolutely. You know, I want to make this the most special Valentine's Day Kay's ever had. I want her to know how much I love her. So I got something special planned.

Tabitha: Something special?

Fox: Yep, it's a surprise for Kay, so--

Fox: Kay, you look so beautiful.

Kay: Oh.

Fox: Happy Valentine's Day.

Kay: Aw, happy Valentine's Day. You're so sweet. God, these are my favorite flowers.

Fox: I thought they were.

Kay: Oh, you shouldn't have gotten me candy. You know I'm going to eat the whole box.

Fox: I knew you were going to say that.

Kay: Thank you. Thank you so much. No one's ever done this for me on Valentine's Day. I love you.

Fox: I love you.

Kay: Thank you for making this day so special.

Fox: This is just the beginning. I've got a big surprise for you.

Kay: Ooh, what kind of surprise?

Fox: You'll see. It's going to be great.

Tabitha's voice: Oh, I can see that damn engagement ring on a chain around his neck. He's planning to propose tonight, and it's too soon.

[Rumble]

Tabitha's voice: Boys in the basement get really mad when I worry about Kay, but I can't help it. She's like a daughter to me. Well, a bad-seed sort of daughter, I suppose. Nevertheless, I do care what happens to the girl. And if Fox proposes too soon before the planets are aligned, their relationship is doomed.

Ethan: You can't be serious.

Theresa: I'm dead serious. You've finally convinced to me that you are never going to leave Gwen. But that is no reason for us to deny ourselves, our love for each other.

Ethan: Theresa, yes, it is. I told you it doesn't matter how I feel about you, I am not going to walk away from my wife to be with you. I won't--

Theresa: And I'm not--I'm not asking you to walk away from Gwen. I will be your mistress. You can stay married to Gwen and at the same time you can have your happiness with me. It's the only way we'll ever truly be happy.

Sam: Well, can you think of anyone, Julian? Anyone who hated both you and your father enough to try to kill you?

Julian: Well, as I said, my father's enemies are too numerous to name. I have enemies, too. My duplicitous wife comes to mind, in fact.

Ivy: Please, Julian. Rebecca would never try to kill anyone. That would require planning, and that would put a strain on her single-celled brain.

Eve: Besides, I don't think that Rebecca hates you, Julian. She's just annoyed that she has to share you with me.

Julian: As a matter of fact, I think Rebecca is the only person besides Fancy who doesn't hate Father.

Sam: Well, someone hated him enough to put him in a coma.

Eve: Sam, you're not still thinking that whoever tried to kill Alistair might come after Julian, are you?

Sam: No, I don't think so. I mean, no one's come after you since the initial attempt on your life, and that was years ago.

Julian: Yes, you're right. No, I truly believe that father is the focus of this--this murderer's hatred.

Sam: The question is, who is it? Who tried to kill Alistair?

Liz: Look at you. You can't talk. You can't move. You can't do anything.

Liz: Oh, I am going to stand right here and watch the great Alistair Crane die.

[Liz laughs]

[Rumble]

Fox: Tabitha, what's that noise? Sounds like it's coming from the basement again.

Tabitha: Oh, yes. I'm afraid that's just my old plumbing.

Fox: Again? I'm calling a plumber first thing in the morning. That noise has got to go.

Tabitha: Well, you can try, dear, but I've had it repaired many times.

Kay: You know what, we should go, we should go. Come on, let's go. Can you put these in water for me, please? Thank you. Tabitha--she can handle the noise in the basement. Yeah.

Fox: Ok, let's go. I'm going to make this an evening that you'll never forget.

Kay: Ooh, let's go.

Tabitha: Listen, I'm sure you're both going to have a lovely time, but, Kay, I need to have a word with you before you go, dear.

Kay: You do?

Tabitha: Yes, yes--you know, about Maria's medicine and her stuffy nose?

Kay: Oh, right, right. I'll be out.

Fox: Ok. I'll go get the car and meet you out front.

Kay: Ok.

Kay: Maria does not have a stuffy nose. What's going on?

Tabitha: What's going on is that you are waltzing into danger with your eyes wide open.

Kay: Danger? You mean about Fox?

Tabitha: Yes, of course I mean about Fox. He intends to propose to you tonight, and you have got to find some way to stop him.

Kay: Tabitha, I want to be his wife so badly. But I know we can't officially become engaged until the planets are aligned.

Tabitha: Because if you do, you will never walk down the aisle together, and your--your relationship will be doomed!

Kay: I know, I know. But it's making me crazy that I have to keep finding these ways to stall him from asking me to marry him.

Tabitha: Yes, well, just beware. Tonight is the night for marriage proposals. Just try not to get caught up in all this silly Valentine's nonsense. And if Fox does manage to pop the question, then the only answer you can give him is no.

Ethan: Listen to me. You can't be my mistress, all right?

Theresa: Why not? You told me you're not going to leave Gwen, so there is no reason for us to live our lives without love.

Ethan: I-- I have love in my life. I have Gwen in my life, Theresa.

Theresa: Why can't you just stop trying to convince yourself?

Ethan: What--what are you doing?

Theresa: I'm just trying to show you that you don't have this with Gwen, that you will never feel this kind of passion with her, that you will never feel truly alive until you are making love to me.

Ethan: Don't.

Theresa: Let's be secret lovers.

Ethan: Don't.

[Liz laughs]

Liz: Oh, yes, sir, it is payback time for you. You're finally getting what you deserve.

[Monitor flatlines]

Nurse: It's Alistair Crane in 213. Get the crash team in here stat!

Sam: Like I said, I don't think Alistair's case has anything to do with Noah and Fancy's incident.

Ivy: Well, that's a relief. I would be scared every day if I thought that there was a killer out there targeting anyone whose name is Crane.

[Pager beeps]

Eve: I'm being paged to Alistair's room. I'll be right back.

Julian: I'll come with you.

Ivy: You know, Fancy is not going to wake up for a while. Let's go, too. Maybe we can get to watch him die.

{Alistair: You've always been weak, Sheridan. You're a blot on my family's name. You've been a disappointment to me from the day you were born.

Katherine: Alistair, please!

Alistair: You're not worthy of love, of my love or any other man's love. You think the people who love you have run away. They must sense something about you.

Martin: Damn you, Alistair.

Alistair: Even the love of your life, Luis--he left you. Your mother left you.

Katherine: Not because I wanted to. Sheridan, you know the truth. Trust yourself.

Alistair: No, and it wouldn't be any different with this--this child. I mean, he'd-- he wouldn't love you. Not at all. Even if I let you keep him, he would grow up and use you. And then he would leave you like everyone else does. You want to know what I think is going to happen to you in the future--that is, of course, if you don't end up in a madhouse first? You're going to wither away and be lonely in that little cottage of yours. }

Sheridan: I believed you, Father, but you were wrong. Luis did love me. And now Chris loves me.

Chris: Here you are. Are you ready to go?

Sheridan: All set. Don't you look handsome tonight.

Chris: And you look beautiful as ever.

Sheridan: Thank you.

Chris: I've made reservations at Poi Poi. It's on the water's edge. The concierge said it's the perfect place for Valentine's Day.

Sheridan: It sounds wonderful. You know, Chris, I've been thinking about your proposal.

Chris: You don't have to talk about it. My timing was very off, and I'm sorry. It was too soon. And as I said, my offer is still on the table.

Sheridan: I appreciate that.

Chris: Well, I'm going to go ring the valet to bring the car around, and we can go. I'll be right back.

Sheridan: Ok.

Sheridan: Chris is offering me everything I always wanted-- a wonderful husband, and I already love his little boy. But I'm afraid. What if it falls apart like all my other relationships?

Kay: Oh, Fox, this is so beautiful. Thank you.

Fox: We make a pretty good-looking family, don't we?

Kay: Yeah, we do. Oh, I can't believe everything you've done to make this night so special. The flowers, the champagne, candy, this. Thank you.

Fox: I'm glad you like it. And I'm not through yet.

Kay: You're not?

[Woman squeals]

Woman: Oh, Harry, yes! Yes, of course I'll marry you!

Man: Oh, you've made me the happiest man on earth.

Kay: Aw, that is so romantic.

Fox: Must be the full moon.

Kay: Is there a full moon?

Fox: Absolutely. And all this romance--it's contagious.

Tabitha: Oh, no, I don't like the sound of this. Come on, Kay. Nip it in the bud.

Fox: I think it must be pretty special to get engaged on Valentine's Day.

Kay: Yeah, I'm sure it is. Well, you definitely wouldn't forget your anniversary.

Fox: Maybe that's why so many guys pick this day to propose.

Kay: Yeah.

Kay: What are you doing?

Fox: I just wanted you to know that I keep this with me at all times. And I especially wanted to have it with me tonight.

Tabitha: Be careful, Kay. It sounds as if Fox is leading up to that proposal.

[Rumble]

Tabitha: I know, I know. If Kay wants to have a successful marriage to Fox, she has to wait until the planets are aligned to accept his proposal, I know! And I know that you don't give a flying fig about Kay's happiness, but I do. She's a mortal, and you know how unpredictable mortals are when they're in love. Oh, I just hope that she can keep her wits about her when he does finally pop the question.

Tabitha: Oh, dear. A sign. Another sign that things are only going to get worse and worse for Fox and Kay.

Sheridan: Thank you. It's so beautiful here, isn't it?

Chris: Absolutely. The people are so warm, the climate is perfect. This is paradise.

Sheridan: I wonder what it would be like to live here.

Chris: Pretty amazing, I would imagine. I mean, but you don't have to live here to be in paradise. I think if you're with the right person, paradise is guaranteed no matter where you live.

Sheridan: You really believe that?

Chris: I do, because being with you is paradise.

Kay: Thank you.

Fox: So, you want some more champagne?

Kay: Oh, yeah, I would love some. Dancing really makes you thirsty, doesn't it?

Fox: Yeah. The music is pretty good, too, huh?

Kay: Yeah, it's great. Everything about this place, everything about tonight has just been wonderful.

Fox: You're the most wonderful thing about this whole night.

Kay: Aw.

Fox: I love seeing you have a good time.

Kay: I'm having the best time.

Fox: Great. But I still have one more surprise.

Kay: Another one? No, no, you've done too much already.

Fox: Ah, but this is the best one. This surprise is for both of us.

Kay: Both of us?

Fox: Yes. Now close your eyes.

Kay: What? No, what are you doing?

Fox: Just trust me. Close your eyes.

Kay: Ok.

Fox: Close them. Keep them closed.

Kay: They're closed.

Fox: Kay, you know how much I want to marry you, how much I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Tabitha: Oh, no, no. Here it comes. I was afraid this would happen. Oh, it's all this silly Valentine's Day nonsense. I had a bad feeling from the moment Fox walked in with those flowers and that candy. Kay! Kay, can you hear me? Can you hear me telepathically? Don't let Fox do it. Don't let him propose!

Fox: I love you, Kay. I've never felt this way about any other woman before.

Kay: Oh, I feel the same way.

Fox: Kay, are you ready for this great surprise?

Kay: Yeah.

Fox: It's going to make this a Valentine's Day that you'll never forget.

Theresa: Ethan, make love to me.

[Monitor flatlines]

Eve: What's happening?

Nurse: I don't know. He just flatlined. He was ok when I checked earlier.

Eve: Ok, let's just push one cc epi, see if we can get him back.

Kay: Can I open my eyes?

Fox: Almost. Are you ready for the surprise of your life? Ready for a Valentine's Day you'll never forget?

Kay: Yes, yes, yes! I'm going to explode if you don't let me look.

Tabitha: Drat! My telepathy isn't working. Oh, oh, here it comes. Oh, I can't watch.

Fox: Ok, you may slowly open your eyes. Won't you join us?

Kay: My surprise is another woman? Well, yeah, I guess that would be a really memorable night, but I'm not really into that sort of thing.

Fox: Kay, no, it's nothing like that. This is Ari. She's an astrologist.

Ari: How do you do? I understand you need some help with the stars?

Kay: You're an astrologist?

Fox: Yes, and she specializes in how the planets and the stars affect people in love. She's going to give us a reading.

Tabitha: What? Did he say astrologist? What is Fox thinking? Everyone knows that those people are fakes. Don't listen to her, Kay. For Hades' sake, don't listen to her!

[Rumble]

Tabitha: Yes, I totally agree. Nothing irritates me more than mortals pretending they possess our powers--gives us witches a bad name. Well, usually these fakes are harmless enough, although this one could be the exception. This one is going to be downright dangerous.

Theresa: I want you. I want you so badly.

Ethan: God, no, uh-uh! Theresa, no. I'm not doing it.

Theresa: Ethan, we can do this.

Ethan: No.

Theresa: We can keep our love a secret. Yes, we can. I want this, you want this. Let's just do it.

Ethan: I can't.

Ivy: It's such a shame, all these people trying to save a worthless life.

Sam: It's what they do, Ivy, even if the patient is a monster.

Julian: Is he going to be all right?

Eve: Yes, yes, he's stabilized. That was good work, people.

[Monitor flatlines]

Eve: What the--

Julian: What's going on? I thought you said he was stabilized.

Eve: He was.

Nurse: Doctor, we're losing him again.

Chris: What he didn't realize was he was sitting on it all along.

Sheridan: That's a riot. You know what?

Chris: What?

Sheridan: You made me laugh. I don't remember smiling in such a long time.

Chris: Well, I'll have to make you smile every day. Your smile lights up a room.

Sheridan: It feels so strange to laugh when we're here searching for my son. Even though we keep coming up empty-handed, it feels good to laugh.

Chris: Yes, it does.

Boy: Aloha. Happy Valentine's Day.

Chris: Thank you.

Sheridan: Thank you.

Boy: You're welcome.

Chris: Are you all right?

Sheridan: I was just thinking about Marty. That little boy reminded me of him. And I was thinking about James, too. I miss him.

Chris: I do, too. But he knows we'll be back for him soon. My son is a good little boy.

Sheridan: I just can't wait to find Marty and bring him home with us. Then we can all come back here and vacation someday as a family.

Chris: That sounds perfect.

Sheridan: Then we'd really have paradise.

Kay: This is the surprise you're giving me? A reading with an astrologist?

Fox: Don't you want to do it? Kay, I thought you'd be excited. I know you've got this whole thing about not getting engaged until the planets are aligned, so I'm hoping she'll be able to tell us when that is.

Kay: You think she can do that? Can you do that?

Ari: My gift was passed down to me from my mother, and her mother to her, and her mother to her, and so on.

Kay: Wow.

Fox: I've heard she's good.

Tabitha: Good? The woman's a charlatan, a fraud!

Kay: Ok, let's do it. Can't wait to hear this.

Fox: Neither can I. We're all yours. You need to ask us some questions?

Kay: Do we have to shuffle cards or something?

Ari: Please, there is no tarot reader in front of you. I deal with physics and the metaphysical. But first I must cleanse your aura of all negative energy.

[Kay coughs]

Kay: Whew. Oh. Whew.

Ari: Now, I have consulted my charts, I have studied all planetary formations, I did a check with the spirit world, and what I have to say is this.

[Ari chants]

Tabitha: That woman is shameless. Not only is she a fraud, she's a lousy actress.

Ari: I have news, important news.

Fox: What is it?

Kay: Good news, I hope.

Tabitha: Kay, Kay, don't listen to her! I told you what would happen if you accept Fox's proposal before the stars are in synch. If you listen to that damn gypsy, you're done for.

Ethan: Damn it, damn it! I can't do this, Theresa. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I went through with this, all right?

Theresa: You can, ok? Just don't think about Gwen. Look, just--just we will know, ok?

Ethan: No, no.

Theresa: Yes.

Ethan: Gwen would know, too, because I'd tell her.

Theresa: But, Ethan, why would you tell her?

Ethan: Why would I tell her? Because I'm in a marriage with her. And people in marriages, they don't keep secrets from each other. Oh, and I'd never be able to go to mass again, ok? I'd have to confess this whole thing.

Theresa: I think that you need to let go off this guilt that you have. Because you and I belong together. And I know that you are married to her, and I know that you are never going to leave her, but the only way that I can accept that is if you make me your mistress.

Ethan: I can't--no, I'm not making you--

Theresa: Yes, listen to me. I am standing in front of you-- look at me, please-- and I am offering you my body and my heart and my soul. The least you could do is just take what I'm offering you.

Ethan: How could I do that? How could I do that? You deserve to be someone's wife. You don't deserve to be the other woman, Theresa. And, honestly, I respect you way too damn much to put you in that kind of a position.

Theresa: And don't you think that I want to be your wife? I want to be your wife more than anything. Yeah, I want to shout it out to the world that we love each other and that we are together. But I am willing to be your mistress, Ethan. I'm willing to make that sacrifice because I will do anything to be with you.

Kay: Well, what's the news?

Ari: Don't rush me.

Kay: Oh, sorry.

Fox: You said you had news, Ari. We're kind of anxious to know what it is.

Ari: Ok, you got it. Here goes. The planets and the spirits are in agreement with what my charts say, which is--

Kay: Yes?

Ari: There is a strong romantic energy in the atmosphere. This is the best possible time for a couple to come together.

Fox: Come together? You mean like get engaged?

Ari: You got it. The couple that get engaged now is blessed by the stars. You can't lose.

Kay: Fox!

Fox: You heard the lady. We don't have to wait for the planets to get aligned anymore. We can get engaged tonight.

Kay: Really? We can really get engaged?

Tabitha: No, no, no, Kay! No, you can't do it. Don't listen to her. You'll lose Fox forever.

Ethan: You may think you can deal with something like this, but I don't believe it. You would never be happy being with me just part of the time, Theresa.

Theresa: Well, I won't be happy not having any part of you, Ethan. I mean, do you honestly think that I want to be your mistress? I want a life with you. You know, I want to be your wife. I want to raise Jane together with little Ethan. That's what I want. Just somewhere along the way things got really messed up, and it's wrong--it's wrong that we aren't together.

Ethan: Maybe, maybe it's wrong. It's the way things have to be. Why can't you just accept it? It's the way it has to be.

Theresa: Because I know you don't love Gwen. Not when you can kiss me the way that you just did, not when you tell me how you long to take me in your arms and make love to me.

Ethan: Theresa, none of those things matter, do you understand? If we were to become lovers, as you suggest, I would lose-- I would lose my self-respect, is what I would lose.

Theresa: No, you would have respect for yourself if you were honest.

Ethan: I can be honest without destroying other people's lives, Theresa. Think about what you've done to yourself in the name of loving me. You went to Julian to--to beg him to take me back into the family when it was revealed that I was Sam Bennett's son, right? What happened? You ended up getting drunk and getting pregnant.

Theresa: And that was a terrible mistake. But I did it out of love for you. And I love my son with all of my heart, even if he isn't yours.

Ethan: I know you love your son. I know you do, but you don't even think about him before you act. You married Alistair Crane. You married Alistair Crane! You knew he was a monster, but you thought you could use him. You thought that he could force me to leave Gwen, Theresa.

Theresa: Yeah, another really dumb mistake on my part--I got it--and very painful, too. But you know what? I made a pact with the devil, I married Alistair because that's how desperate I was to be with you.

Ethan: Yeah, well, all this desperation has led to some really terrible, dangerous things, and I happen to think that you deserve much better.

Theresa: But I can't have it.

Ethan: Not with me, no.

Theresa: There's no one else. Why don't you understand? I love you. I will always love you. Ethan, fate means for us to be together.

Ethan: Hey.

Theresa: It's our destiny.

Ethan: I don't believe in fate. Because if fate existed, wouldn't we be together? I can't do this to you, I can't do this to my wife, I can't live a double life, and I'm--I'm not going to live a lie, either, Theresa.

Theresa: Well, you are living a lie, Ethan, if you stay married to Gwen when you really want to be with me.

Ethan: I can't be with you! I can't. And what is the sense of wanting something if you just can't have it?

Theresa: You can have it. I'm right here, and you love me. And we cannot just turn off our feelings for each other.

Ethan: I do love you. I admit it--I love you. I do. I've never denied it. But you have to get it through your head that I'm committed to another woman. I'm committed to my wife and I have to stay married to her.

Theresa: Ok. Ok, I accept it. And, you know, I don't care anymore if I can't have all of you. I just want to be with you however we can make that happen. So, please, be with me.

Man: Ow.

Woman: Oh, sweetie, I told you to use sun block. You're a lobster all over.

Man: Cindy, I've got to ask you a question.

Cindy: Why are you down there? Did you lose a contact or something? Here, I'll help you look for it.

Man: Cindy, no. Will you marry me?

Cindy: Yes! I want more than anything to be your wife.

Man: Ah, oh! Sunburn.

Cindy: Sorry. Sorry.

Sheridan: You know, Chris, you're right. We don't have to be in Hawaii to have paradise. Paradise is loving someone and having that person love you in return. Life is pretty grim if you don't have someone to share it with.

Chris: I believe it, Sheridan. Life is meant to be shared.

Sheridan: I was thinking about you asking me to marry you. I know you said you thought it was too soon.

Chris: I just didn't want you to feel pressured.

Sheridan: I know, and I appreciate that. But you asked me a question, and I'm ready to give you an answer.

Eve: This is crazy. Alistair was stabilized before. What made him crash again?

Sam: Well, maybe this is the problem.

Eve: Oh, my God. That's Alistair's oxygen supply.

Nurse: He's starting to come back now.

[Alistair groans]

Eve: This is crazy. It is virtually impossible for that plug to just fall out of the wall. Someone had to have unplugged it.

Julian: This could be another attempt on my father's life?

Sam: That's what it looks like. And he almost got it right this time.

Sam: Odds are, whoever tried to kill Alistair won't give up.

Liz's voice: You got that right.

On the Next Passions:

Ethan: You have to accept what's going on here. This is the point where I go my way and you go your way. This is the end. Theresa, this is the end of us.

Tabitha: You cannot become engaged to Fox yet. Otherwise the both of you will be finished.

Sheridan: If you ask me to marry you again, I'll make it worth your while.
