Kay: Oh! Ok, it's locked. Ok, how did that happen? Ok, I am sure that I heard someone or something in there.

Fox: Hey, what's the holdup? Let's just go.

Kay: There's something in --

Fox: I told you I wanted to have a drink at the Blue Note. I don't understand. I don't want to be here anymore.

Kay: Ok, I'm sorry.

[Phone rings]

Fox: Oh, damn it. Fox Crane. Konnich-- yes, sir, I -- no, I understand. I'm terribly sorr-- you know, someone in my office forgot to run a virus scan is what happened. I take full -- responsibility. Right. Well, like I said, I -- apologize.

Kay: Our Tokyo branch?

Fox: Yeah. Right there. Little ray of sunshine. He's happy. Boy, I'm telling you, when you screw up, you don't hold anything back. You just go for it, don't you?

Gwen: I swear, if I see Theresa anywhere near Ethan, I'm going to rip her heart out.

Theresa: Oh, my God, it's Gwen. I cannot let her find me here.

Rebecca: I mean, nobody would blame you if you did. I mean, she's the reason Ethan's in there in the first place.

Gwen: Yeah, I want to kill her. I mean, I really want to kill her. Oh, my God.

Sheridan: Chris, are you saying that you didn't mean it when you said you loved me?

Chris: I just said we needed to talk about it.

Sheridan: Oh, my God. After everything that we've been through, now that you're a free man, you don't have to run from the mob anymore, you don't want to stay here with me? Is that what you're saying, that you don't love me after all?

Rebecca: What is it?

Gwen: It just breaks my heart to see him like this.

Rebecca: I know. His eye is open like that, just staring so lifeless and pitiful.

Gwen: Oh, God. I mean, I knew Theresa was evil, but to do this, to the man she supposedly loves?

Rebecca: You know, I just can't believe she hasn't been arrested yet. I mean, putting the poison in the guacamole and then Ethan eats it -- well, that is attempted murder in my book.

Gwen: Yeah, she even admitted that she wanted to kill Alistair, but, no, she poisons Ethan, instead. I hate her. God, I hate her so much.

Theresa's voice: Not as much as I hate myself.

Kay: Fox, I'm so sorry, ok? I don't know what happened. But I am sure that I ran a virus scan before I uploaded the project to the mainframe.

Fox: Really? Then how'd the project get infected in Crane offices all over the world?

Kay: I wish I knew. I'm sorry.

Fox: You know what? Look, let's just forget it, ok? We've done everything we can to alleviate the problem, so really, all we can do is sit and wait. And you know what? If people have to redo their work, then they just have to redo it. Which, judging from my conversation with the Tokyo office, they're not going to be very happy about that. You know, I'm not totally sure, but I don't think I've ever been yelled at like that before.

Kay: I don't know what to say. I know that I did a virus scan. I know I did.

Fox: Look, let's just not talk about it anymore, all right? Let's just get out of here and hope my grandfather doesn't fire me over this.

Kay: He can't fire you. If anybody made a mistake, it was me. I'm the one who should go.

Fox: You know what? Forget it, ok? Let's just -- let's go to the Blue Note and have a drink. Try to relax, all right?

Kay: All right.

Kay: Ok, I know I heard something in that closet.

Fox: Kay, come on, let's go.

Valerie: That was close.

Ivy: Oh, yes, it was. But isn't it wonderful? I've never heard Fox so angry.

Valerie: I thought for sure he was going to fire her on the spot.

Ivy: So did I. Oh, well, the groundwork is laid, and he will get rid of her sooner or later. Preferably sooner.

Valerie: And when he does, it's bye-bye Kay and Fox as a couple.

Ivy: That is my ultimate goal, yes.

Valerie: I have a goal, too, Ivy -- to get to the top here at Crane. And I thought it was going to be with Chad, but --

Ivy: Oh, please. Alistair is never going to let Chad run this company. You're far better off hitching your wagon to a real star -- Fox.

Valerie: Just don't forget our deal, Ivy. I help you, you help me.

Ivy: I haven't forgotten. I need to get to the Blue Note and meet Sam. Maybe I can run into Fox and rub some salt in the wound.

Sheridan: So you didn't mean it when you said you loved me?

Chris: No, Sheridan, I did mean it. I do love you.

Sheridan: You do?

Chris: Of course. What I meant was I shouldn't have told you.

Sheridan: You said that before. You said that you didn't want to burden me.

Chris: I don't want to put you under any more pressure than you already are. God knows you're still grieving for the loss of Luis. And I've got so much emotional baggage tied to my love for you, it was just -- it was wrong.

Sheridan: No, it's not wrong, not if you're being truthful.

Chris: I would never lie about something as important as that. As hard as I tried not to, I've fallen in love with you.

Sheridan: So does this mean that you're not going to leave Harmony?

Chris: I still think I should take James and go.

Sheridan: But you love it here, and so does James.

Chris: Yes, I know, but I don't want to do anything to upset you or to make you feel uncomfortable in any way. And you'll be uncomfortable knowing how I feel.

Sheridan: No, I won't. I can handle it, a lot more than I can handle if you leave and take James away.

Chris: Honestly? You really want us to stay?

Sheridan: Are you kidding? Please tell me that you'll stay.

Chris: All right. Only if we can be friends.

Sheridan: Yeah. Of course we can be friends. Thank goodness I'm not going to lose you.

Chris: What's wrong?

Sheridan: I was -- I was just thinking about another dream, the dream I had of Luis and Marty coming back. Luis is dead and I have no idea where my son is. What kind of monster am I? How can I feel any kind of happiness when I'll never see Luis and Marty again?

Sheridan: I just don't understand my feelings. How can I be happy when I should never be happy again?

Chris: That's not true. You've suffered some terrible losses in your life, Sheridan. You deserve something to make you happy, even if it is just my friendship or your love for my little boy.

Sheridan: But I feel like I'm betraying Luis.

Chris: Don't. I think Luis loved you with all his heart. He would want you to find some happiness. He would never want you to go through the rest of your life in pain and grief. Am I wrong?

Sheridan: No, you're right. And James does put a smile on my face. Luis would have loved that. So, I guess we can go back to the Bed-and-Breakfast, right? There's no reason for us to hide anymore.

Chris: No more running. No need to ever hide again.

Sheridan: That little guy looks pretty tired over there. We better get him home.

Chris: Yeah, he looks pretty done in. I'll go get the car. Will you stay with James?

Sheridan: Good idea.

Chris: Ok.

Theresa's voice: Ok, they're both facing Ethan. Maybe I can slip out before they see me.

Gwen: Now, where is Eve, you know? There's got to be more that they can do for him.

Rebecca: I don't know. Eve's probably playing doctor with my husband even as we speak.

Gwen: Eve is a good doctor, no matter how you feel about her personally.

Rebecca: I suppose so. But then why hasn't she called in a specialist?

Gwen: Because she wants to see the results of the tests she's already run, you know, and then she's going to call in a specialist. But I just cannot believe that this is going to be permanent. Ethan is so young and full of life. He's got so much to live for.

Theresa's voice: Yes. He has me, little Ethan, and our daughter to live for.

Gwen: And I hate Theresa for doing this. I hate her for taking you away from me, for turning you into this. I hope she rots in hell for what she's done.

Kay: I just wish I could understand what went wrong. You know, when I was getting ready to send the project to the global offices, I remember thinking, you know, "you'd better make sure to protect it." You know, because so many things can happen when you send something like that to so many people in so many cities around the world, so I know that I ran a virus scan.

Fox: Let it go, all right? Look, what's done is done.

Kay: But maybe there's a way we can fix it so that all those people won't lose their work.

Fox: No, no, all the work is gone. There's absolutely nothing we can do, except sit here. Besides, I don't want to go back to the office. I don't want think about the office. The last thing I need to do is run into Chad, sit there and watch him gloat.

Kay: Look, Fox, you won the competition with him because your presentation was better than his. Just because I messed up, that doesn't give him the right to gloat.

Fox: Oh, you're right. But it does give everyone in the company the chance to think I'm an incompetent idiot.

Kay: Nobody's going to think that. You're not incompetent. You're brilliant.

Fox: Yeah. The guy in Tokyo thought I was brilliant, right? Right? Well -- you know what? Maybe -- maybe you could do me a favor. Can you go get us a table or something? I think I need a second to sit here by myself and cool off. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Sam: Kay, honey, did you just get here?

Kay: Yeah. Hi, Dad.

Sam: Sweetheart, honey, what's wrong? Why are you so upset?

Kay: It's nothing. It's just been a really emotional night for me. What are you doing here?

Sam: I'm waiting for Ivy. She's late.

Kay: She's late?

Sam: Yeah.

Kay: Well, where is she?

Sam: Well, I don't know. I mean, she left a message with me over at the Seascape restaurant telling me to meet her here, but she hasn't showed up, but -- so I went to look for Jessica.

Kay: Oh, did you find her? How is she?

Sam: Yeah, yeah, she's fine. Look, it's a long story. She's home. She's safe for now.

Kay: Thank goodness.

Sam: Yeah.

Kay: At least something good happened tonight.

Ivy: Oh, hi.

Sam: Hey, honey.

Ivy: Oh, sorry I'm late.

Sam: Can I get you something to drink?

Ivy: Oh, yes, please. One martini, dry.

Sam: Ok. Kay?

Kay: I have a soda, thank you.

Sam: Ok. I'll be right back.

Kay: Where have you been? Did you have anything to do with what happened to the Singapore project?

Kay: Well, where were you tonight?

Ivy: I don't think I have to answer to you, Kay.

Kay: Yeah, you do, because if you were the one who messed up Fox's project, I swear I will make you pay.

Ivy: What are you talking about? Why would I mess up Fox's project?

Kay: To make me look bad, of course. Did you install a worm on the computer's mainframe?

Ivy: A wha-- I don't even know what you're talking about. I don't know how to even turn on a computer.

Kay: Why should I believe you?

Ivy: Ask Fox. He'll tell you.

Sam: Ahem -- here you go.

Ivy: Thank you.

Sam: Is everything all right here?

Ivy: It's fine. Fine, other than worrying about Ethan. I went by the hospital. But visiting hours were over, and they wouldn't let me in, his own mother.

Sam: So his condition hasn't changed?

Ivy: The nurse said no.

Kay: Poor Ethan. I can't believe this happened to him.

Sam: I just hope that he pulls out of this coma, or whatever it is. My God, if it's not one of my kids, it's another. I saw Fox at the bar. He seemed pretty upset, too.

Kay: Yeah. He had a terrible problem with work, and he thinks it's my fault.

Sam: Your fault? Why?

Kay: Yeah, it was, like, some computer glitch, and I might have been responsible, but I don't think so.

Ivy: Tsk. Poor Kay. You know, the corporate world, it is very, very hard. I'm going to go talk to Fox, because he looks terrible.

Sam: Sweetheart, is that why you were upset earlier?

Kay: Yeah. I screwed up, Dad. And not just my job, but I think that I've ruined my relationship with Fox.

Sam: Oh, sweetheart --

Theresa's voice: I can't listen to this. I need to be with Ethan, and Gwen needs to leave.

Rebecca: Gwen, I don't even want you to think about that little tramp. It's just going to make everything more painful.

Gwen: I'm sorry, I can't help it. My life was perfect until Theresa decided she wanted Ethan. I mean, he loved me. He wanted to marry me.

Rebecca: Honey, trust me, I know. I know everything that that woman has done to you, but I just don't think we should talk about it, because I read that people in a coma can hear everything that's being said, so I think we need to keep what we say very beautiful and positive for Ethan.

Gwen: Ok. It's just really hard to see him like this.

Rebecca: I know, honey. But you have to stay positive. We cannot give up on Ethan. You have to keep hoping.

Gwen: Well, I am hoping. I'm hoping with my whole heart that Ethan comes back to me. But then there's always Theresa. She's always there. She's lurking, she's threatening, and she is always there. How can I hope for a future with Ethan when that bitch is determined to ruin our lives?

Theresa's voice: You're the one who ruined my life. All you had to do was walk away and let Ethan be with me, the woman he really loves.

Gwen: I mean, how could I have been so blind and so stupid? You know, when Theresa went to work for Ivy, she's pretending to be my friend and wanted to help me plan the wedding, but the whole time she's trying to steal Ethan away from me. How in the world could I not have seen that?

Rebecca: Honey -- honey, how could you know? Really? I mean, and when you think about all the horrible things she's done -- I mean, it is very hard to believe that one person could be that duplicitous.

Gwen: It's also very hard to imagine the kind of brain that would hatch a plan to marry Alistair. What, so she can steal Ethan and Jane away from me?

Theresa's voice: Jane is my daughter, mine and Ethan's.

Rebecca: And then she decides to kill Alistair. Comes up with this harebrained plan to put poison in the guacamole. I mean, even I wouldn't come up with something that stupid, and if I did, I would make sure Alistair was the one who was poisoned and not Ethan.

Gwen: She's just so stupid. She's so stupid. I wish she were dead. I wish she were lying here. What was that?

Rebecca: What was what?

Gwen: I felt the bed move.

Chris: So we're back to figuring out how to do the laundry, again, are we?

Sheridan: Well, I've gotten better at that. It's the cooking that I need help with.

Chris: And, you, young man, you need a nice hot bath and a bedtime story.

Sheridan: Hmm.

Chris: All right?

Sheridan: Why don't I help?

Chris: That's one area you don't need any help. You know how to be a loving mother. Let's get you to the bath, ok? Come on.

[Chris growls]

Ivy: What are you doing here? Kay cannot see us together.

Valerie: I'm meeting friends. I come here all the time. So I saw you with Kay. Just wondering what's going on.

Ivy: Oh, she's suspicious, but she knows nothing. I was just on my way to talk to Fox to drive another nail into Kay's coffin.

Valerie: So we still have a deal, right? I help you split up Fox and Kay, and when I go after him, you won't interfere.

Ivy: That's the deal.

Valerie: I kind of feel sorry for Kay. But all's fair, right? Once I got Kay out of the picture, I'll get my chance with Fox.

Ivy: Now, as I said, I do not want Kay to see us together, so why don't you just go back to your friends. You'll have a chance with Fox over my dead body.

Sam: So this Singapore project was something that Fox was counting on to boost his career at Crane Industries?

Kay: Yeah, and he did a fabulous job. And I ran a virus scan, but he won't believe me.

Sam: Look, he's just upset right now. Look, I have seen you two together, and from what I've seen, I think he's in love with you. He's not going to let something like this ruin your relationship.

Kay: I hope you're right, because it'll just kill me if I lose him.

Ivy: Hello, honey. I heard what happened at work.

Fox: Oh, really? Oh, great, I'm sure you did. I'm sure the whole world knows what a fool I am by now.

Ivy: Oh. Don't be so hard on yourself. Kay told me it was her fault.

Fox: Well, it's -- anyway, I can't believe it's happened. You know, an hour ago I'm master of the universe, and now I'm a piece of dirt.

Ivy: Look, Fox, I know you're upset, but I'm sure whatever Kay did, it was an honest mistake. I mean, she was hardly qualified to be your assistant when she took the job. She barely graduated high school. Her only job experience has been gutting fish at the cannery.

Fox: Well, hold on a second, though. You know, I mean, to be fair, she's smart. She caught on really quickly, actually.

Ivy: I'm sure she did.

Fox: Yeah.

Ivy: It's just I'm wondering if maybe she took on a little more than she was capable of handling. I've always told you how important a college education is. It prepares you for the business world in more than one way. Kay doesn't have that.

Fox: Yeah. She's taken a couple of college courses, though, right? And let's not forget I didn't finish college. Look at me.

Ivy: I know.

Fox: Right.

Ivy: All I'm saying is it couldn't have been easy for Kay to be thrown into the pressure cooker that is Crane Industries. I think maybe you were expecting a little too much of her, darling.

Fox: Yeah, maybe.

Rebecca: Well, what do you mean, the bed moved?

Gwen: Wait, didn't you feel that? It felt like someone jarred the bed.

Rebecca: No, no, I didn't feel anything.

Gwen: Nurse, I just felt the bed move. I mean, it's just us. Is it possible that Ethan moved?

Patty: Sometimes patients in Mr. Winthrop's condition move involuntarily. I think that's what you felt.

Gwen: Well, if he moved, I mean, does that mean he's getting better?

Patty: Dr. Russell's still waiting for test results. And I'm sure as soon as she gets them she'll be able to assess your husband's condition. But we never want to lose hope, Mrs. Winthrop.

Gwen: No, I'm never going to lose hope.

Rebecca: Nurse, I was just telling my daughter that I think it's very important she stay positive. That's right, isn't it?

Patty: Absolutely. But the situation isn't going to change anytime soon, and I think for your husband's sake it would be good for you to go home and get a good night's sleep. It's always easier to stay positive when you're well rested.

Rebecca: Gwennie, she's right. You need to stay strong for Ethan.

Theresa's voice: Yeah, get out and go home.

Gwen: How am I supposed to just leave him here? Just lying here completely disconnected from the world?

Rebecca: Gwennie, you're his wife. You are his only connection with the world now, so you have to stay strong. And besides, think of Jane. She needs to see you. She needs to see that you're not both out of her life right now.

Gwen: Well -- all -- all right. Just give me a moment to say good night to Ethan, ok?

Rebecca: Oh, honey, of course. Listen, I'll go get the car.

Gwen: Ok. Please come back to me. Honey, I love you so much.

Theresa's voice: But he doesn't love you. He loves me.

Sheridan: Good night, James.

Chris: Good night, son.

Sheridan: Well, good night.

Chris: Good night. I'll see you in the morning?

Sheridan: Yeah. I still can't believe you're going to be here. Sleep tight.

Chris: You, too.

Sheridan: Well, good night.

Chris: Good night.

Gwen: I do not want to leave you. But I know that if you could you'd tell me to go home and take a bubble bath and try to come back here with a happier face. I know how you don't like to see me unhappy. Babe, I don't know if I'm ever going to be happy again, not until you come out of this and you come back to me and you hold me in your arms again. God, I'm going to miss being in your arms tonight. And I'll miss making love with you tonight. You have always been the gentlest and the most passionate man in the world from the very first time. Do you remember that night? You had come home to be my date at the spring cotillion I was making my debut. And after all the parents went to bed, we ran out by the pool and we went skinny-dipping. You looked amazing in the moonlight. And we ran to the gazebo. I was usually so self-conscious about myself and about my body, but not with you. Never with you. God, you always made me feel so beautiful and so loved. Remember, you took me by the hand, then you led me over to the chaise. And you read me that poem you had written for me, remember? It was so beautiful. That was just the most perfect, most wonderful night that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Oh. I'm going to try to stay positive. I'm really going to try to stay positive, ok? No, I'm going to stay positive. I'm going to stay positive, and somehow I'm going to will you to get better. You are going to come back to me, and when you do, I'm going to take you and Jane and we are going to move far away from Harmony. We're just going to go far away from Theresa, and I promise you I'm never going to let her hurt you again. I love you so much.

Theresa's voice: You will never take Ethan away from me, Gwen, never.

Fox: I don't know. I mean, you think I pushed Kay into something that was way over her head?

Ivy: Oh, I didn't say she couldn't handle it, Fox. I said it is a possibility.

Fox: Huh.

Ivy: I mean, after all, if she made a mistake at the cannery, they'd dock her what, 50 cents? If she makes a mistake at Crane Industries, it could cost millions.

Fox: You know, I hadn't thought of that. That is true.

Ivy: I feel sorry for Kay. I really do. I'm sure she's doing her best, but you have given her this huge opportunity to fail.

Fox: Right. I didn't -- I wasn't trying to do that, though, you know? I --

Ivy: Oh, I know.

Fox: I don't know what to do. I made such a big deal of giving her the job, I can't go back on my word now. What do I do?

Ivy: Hmm. Yeah, well, I see your dilemma.

Fox: Right?

Ivy: Maybe it's as simple as just reducing her responsibilities. She might be relieved, you know, to get rid of the pressure.

Fox: Yeah. You may be on to something.

Ivy: You could even suggest that she go back and take some more college courses, eventually get her degree. And by then, you know, she'd be more able to handle the complexities of your work.

Fox: Ok. It's brilliant. Then it's settled. I'll -- I'll go talk to her right now. Thanks, Mom.

Ivy: Oh --

Fox: Thanks for the advice. Hey. Do you mind if I have a minute alone with your daughter? Is that possible?

Sam: No, no. Absolutely.

Fox: Thank you.

Sam: Please, please.

Fox: Thank you.

Sam: Ok.

Fox: Hi. Well, first of all, I wanted to apologize, because I've been a jerk.

Kay: No, you haven't. No.

Fox: Yeah, I have.

Kay: No, you had every reason to be upset. And like I said, I don't know how it happened, but I'm sorry, anyway.

Fox: Right. So listen, I've been thinking -- thinking about work, and, you know, how we can handle things at the office from now on, maybe a little better.

Kay: What do you mean?

Fox: Well -- I was just thinking that from now, at least, until this, you know, Singapore project fiasco blows over, maybe everything that needs to be handled -- I should maybe handle personally, myself, on my own.

Kay: Ok. What do you mean? Like, you don't want me to do research for you or compile statistics or --

Fox: No, you know, I can do all that, I can do all of that myself, and it'll take the pressure off you, so --

Kay: But I don't feel pressured.

Fox: It's for the best, I think.

Kay: Well, then what am I going to be doing?

Fox: Um -- well, you know, there's -- there's plenty to be done, you know. Color coordination is one -- one thing off the top of my head, just --

Kay: Color coordination?

Fox: Yeah, you like colors, right? You know how important it is for me to make sure my projects look great, right? You're good at that.

Kay: Yeah, yeah, I guess. Fine, yeah, whatever you need me to do.

Fox: Really?

Kay: Mm-hmm.

Fox: Wow. Well, thank you. You're the absolute best. You know that? I'm going to get another drink. Do you want something? Are you ok or --

Kay: I'm fine.

Fox: You're fine?

Kay: Mm-hmm.

Fox: I'll be right back.

Sam: Well, did you and Fox patch things up?

Kay: Not really. He was just telling me that he's changing my job. Dad, I failed.

Sam: No, you did not. Ok, you're a huge asset to the company, all right? Maybe he's just trying to protect you.

Kay's voice: I wish I could believe that. I think something else is going on.

Ivy: So did you talk to Kay?

Fox: Yeah, you know, I let her know I was going to lighten her workload.

Ivy: How'd she take it?

Fox: Not good, not very good, but you know what? I'm going to make it up to her. And I'm going to do what you suggested. I'm going to ask her to take some college courses. You know, I think that could be a good thing.

Ivy: That's an excellent idea.

Fox: Yeah, yeah, I think it is, I think it is, and then, you know, once she has more training and experience, then I can give her more responsibility.

Ivy: Of course, of --

Fox: Anyway, as for now, I'm sure I have a ton of messages that I got to listen to, so I'm going to do that.

Valerie: So, how's it going?

Ivy: Very well. I'm sure the next time Kay screws up, Fox will be forced to fire her, and that will be the end of their relationship.

Sam: So maybe Fox took away some of your responsibilities --

Kay: Some? He took away everything I was doing.

Sam: Ok. All right. Look, it's not the end of the world, all right? Work hard and you'll be back doing what you did before, probably even more.

Kay: I don't know.

Sam: Sure, you will. Ok? Fox will realize that he was smart to give you a second chance.

Kay's voice: Well, how can I prove myself if someone very close to Fox is committed to making me look bad?

Gwen: I love you very much. I'll be back first thing in the morning, ok? I love you.

[Door closes]

Theresa: She's wrong. We're going to be together. That's our destiny. I'm sorry, Ethan, that this happened. But you're going to come out of this. I'm going to give you all the positive energy that you need. And one day, very soon, we're going to be a family, with our daughter and little Ethan, the way that we're supposed to be.

Theresa: I love you. I love you very much.

Sheridan: Oh, they're going to stay. I'm going to get to see Chris and James every day. There's nothing to be afraid of now.

Sheridan: Oh, Luis. I hope you understand. I hope you're watching and you're happy that I have someone -- little James to look after. I wish I had gone with you to find Marty. I should have. But I just let my anger get in the way. I'm so sorry, my love, so sorry. I miss you so much.

Chris: "To the zoo. What a nice place for George to live." It's over, son. We're free. No more running. I can finally be here for you, be the best daddy anyone could ever ask for. I think we finally found a home here, James, with Sheridan.

On the Next Passions:

Tabitha: With my spell and poison Ivy and vicious Valerie, I'm afraid our Kay is going to lose her man.

Gwen: I told the entire nursing staff that Theresa's not permitted anywhere near Ethan's room.

Theresa: If Gwen finds me here, she's going to kill me.
