Kay: I still can't believe what happened to my sister. Poor Jessica.

Simone: I know. I hope your dad finds the guy who did it and puts him away forever. Imagine drugging a girl and then taking advantage of her.

Kay: I mean, how could a man do something like that?

Simone: I think most men are awful. It's so hard to find a good one. Right, Tabitha?

Tabitha: Oh, yeah. Well, I think my status speaks for itself. I'm still single, by choice.

Kay: Miguel was a good guy. He wasn't one of those guys who only cared about sex. I just feel so terrible for Jess that her first time with a man was awful. It should be the most wonderful thing to make love to a man who really loves you. Like Miguel and me.

Simone: Miguel didn't love you. He only slept with you because you tricked him into thinking you were Charity.

Kay: My point is Jessica needs a guy like Miguel, someone who's going to treasure her, who isn't just going to use her. That's what she needs.

Simone: Don't we all.

Jessica: You seem to forget -- I had that kind of man, Kay.

Kay: What?

Jessica: Reese! He was kind of the man you're talking about, and he loved me -- until you ruined everything!

Ivy: Were you able to get Jessica home from the hospital all right?

Sam: Well, she's still angry with me, but she's home.

Ivy: Ok. Sam, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything. You had every right to tell me to stay out of your daughters' lives and out of your life. So, I'll just go pack, and then you won't have to see me again.

Fox: Listen, Ethan, can I talk to you for a second? I need a favor.

Ethan: Sure.

Fox: We'll be in the living room.

Theresa: What's this favor that Fox needs from Ethan?

Whitney: Um, I don't know, I don't know. He didn't mention anything to me.

Theresa: He didn't? Researching power of attorney, Whitney? You're going to get Fox to give you his power of attorney so that you can place your baby up for adoption while he's out of town away on business without his permission. That's what you're doing, isn't it?

Sheridan: I can't keep thinking about Marty. It's just too painful to think that he's my son when I know he belongs to Beth. It just hurts so much. Marty? Oh, my god. Marty! Marty, come here! No. No, no, no. No, don't go. Where are you? Marty! I can't keep doing this to myself. But how can I go on without my son?

Mrs. Wallace: Luis, did you say you were here for Marty?

Luis: Yeah, I'm here for Marty. I'm going to take him back to be with me and Sheridan for the next couple days.

Beth: Mother, I just want to remind you before I go to the book cafe -- you are not to let Luis take Marty out of this house, and you are especially not allowed to let him go spend time with Sheridan. Do you understand?

Mrs. Wallace: Hmm, you're just afraid that if Marty does spend some more time with Sheridan, she's going to know the truth that Marty is her sun, huh?

Beth: Just do what I tell you. And if I find out that you let Marty go spend time with Luis and Sheridan, I will carve you up!

Luis: Oh, hey, Precious. So is Marty still awake? Can I take him?

Mrs. Wallace: Uh -- uh, I'm not sure.

Luis: Why? What's wrong?

Ethan: You're still determined to go after Gwen and Jane by yourself, aren't you? With no help from the police or the F.B.I.?

Fox: Well, you know what a risk that would be, right? We have to all assume that they're in Alistair's pocket.

Ethan: Fox, my dad isn't. He's the chief of police. You can at least tell him.

Fox: Ok. All right, we'll tell him. And then before you know it, you and Theresa will have your baby back. Of course, that means you'll have your wife back, too. I know you have mixed feelings about that.

Ethan: No, I don't have mixed feelings about it. I want Gwen here back safely, that's all.

Fox: But you are dreading the decision you're going to have to make, right? When I come walking through that door with Gwen, Ethan, you're going to have to choose between Gwen and the woman you really love -- Theresa.

Theresa: That's what you're doing, isn't it? While Fox is away on business, you're going to use his power of attorney to place your baby up for adoption.

Whitney: That's right. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Look, I can't raise this baby knowing that it's Chad's. He's my half brother. I mean, come on.

Theresa: You could tell Fox and Chad the truth, Whitney, try to work it out.

Whitney: There's nothing to work out, Theresa. Believe me, this is the only way. Giving my child up for adoption is the only way that it's going to have a normal life without shame, and that's what I'm going to do.

Theresa: Whitney, don't give your baby up for adoption. You're going to regret it for the rest of your life.

Whitney: So instead I just keep a secret for the rest of my life? I mean, look at you. All your secrets end up coming out. No. The only way I can protect my child and myself is by giving it up for adoption, ok, and there's nothing you or anyone else can do to stop me, ok?

Luis: Mrs. Wallace, you all right? You look a little pale.

Mrs. Wallace: Uh, well, yeah, I'm -- I'm fine. I think I just need to sit down for a minute here.

Luis: Here you are.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, thanks, honey.

Luis: You sick?

Mrs. Wallace: No. No, no, I -- I think I just got up too fast to answer the door. I'm a little lightheaded, you know, a little dizzy.

Luis: I'll get you some water.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, thank you. That's very sweet of you, honey, thank you.

Luis: Hey there, Precious. Good to see you, too.

Mrs. Wallace: Precious, I want Luis to take Marty to see Sheridan, but if I do, Beth's going to kill me! You're right, Precious! She could kill you, too! Oh, boy, at least we're in this together, huh?

Luis: Yes, yes.

Mrs. Wallace: Thanks, honey.

Luis: There you go.

Mrs. Wallace: I appreciate this very much. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

Luis: Slowly.

Mrs. Wallace: Mmm. Mmm. Ah. Thank you. So -- so how is Sheridan doing? Is she ok?

Luis: Yeah, physically, she's fine.

Mrs. Wallace: Uh-huh?

Luis: Just emotionally, she's -- well, she's not doing too well. Even Dr. Russell's worried about her.

Mrs. Wallace: I see.

Luis: Yeah, she just -- she never really got over the loss of our baby. Dr. Russell says that she's not getting better.

Mrs. Wallace: The poor, poor thing.

Luis: Yeah, Eve says that if she doesn't have a child of her own, you know, somewhere where she can place all her motherly instincts, that she could lose her mind.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, that's terrible. That's really terrible.

Luis: So I just, you know, I figured if she could spend some time with Marty, maybe it'll help, you know, at least till she can have a child of her own again.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, yeah. I understand. I do understand why you want to help Sheridan.

Luis: I do. I really do. And also, you know, I want to spend some more time with Marty. I don't get to see him enough now. I really want to.

Mrs. Wallace: I'm sure you do.

Luis: So, is Beth around? You know, I just want to ask her if it's ok if I take Marty.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, honey, no, no, that's the problem. You see, she's gone down to the book cafe to close up.

Luis: Oh. Oh, all right. Well, I guess I'll just come back then a little later.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh.

Luis: All right. I'll see you guys later.

Mrs. Wallace: Yeah. Ok.

Luis: Ok.

Mrs. Wallace: Precious, what am I going to do? If I let Luis take Marty to see Sheridan, Beth's going to kill me. If I don't, then Sheridan's going to lose her mind. Huh?

Sheridan: Our old playhouse. Julian and I used to play here in the summers. Before I was sent to live in Europe. I always wanted my children to play here, just like I did. Are you having fun? Huh? Look. Ooh.

Luis: Torturing yourself and Beth is not going to bring our baby back, Sheridan. Please, you have to accept that our baby is gone. Don't blame poor Beth here, ok? She didn't do anything. She is completely innocent.

Sheridan: Maybe I was wrong. Everyone said that my baby died in that kidnapper's car. So maybe I am wrong to think that Marty is my son. Dear god, maybe I am going crazy.

Kay: Jess. I thought you were in bed next door.

Jessica: I was. I got restless, so I came over here and find you gossiping about me.

Simone: We weren't gossiping.

Kay: No, we were talking about you, but only because we've been so worried.

Jessica: Oh, like you really care about me.

Kay: I do care. You're my sister.

Tabitha: Kay's telling the truth, Jessica. She and Simone are very worried about you. We all are.

Jessica: So that's why you couldn't leave Reese alone? Because you "care" so much?

Kay: Jessica, that wasn't me. Our goody two-shoes cousin Charity, she's the one who took Reese away from you.

Jessica: Charity?

Simone: Yeah. Don't you remember? She went crazy and started throwing herself at every guy in town, including Reese?

Jessica: Yeah. How could I forget? But you were the first one to go after Reese. Don't you remember that night at the movies, Reese was acting so weird?

Kay: Whatever happened that night, it wasn't my fault.

Jessica: Yes, it was.

Tabitha: I seem to remember having a little something to do with that myself, but Kay's getting all the blame.

Jessica: You couldn't stand the fact that someone actually wanted to be with me. And you were furious that you couldn't hold on to Miguel. You know, when he left Harmony, he left skid marks.

Tabitha: Good one.

Kay: That's a lie.

Jessica: Kay, he couldn't get away from you fast enough!

[Door closes]

Tabitha: Oh, these mortals do have their problems, don't they, my little witchling, hmm?

Sam: Ivy. Look, I don't want you to go, ok? So don't pack. I want you to be here.

Ivy: Really?

Sam: Yeah. Look, I know I was pretty rough on you at the hospital.

Ivy: Sam, you have to know I would never, ever try to come between you and your girls.

Sam: I was just upset about Jessica.

Ivy: Yeah. And I'm just a failure as a stepmother.

Sam: No, you're not.

Ivy: No, I'm a failure. I'm a failure. But I want to be better. I do. I want to do better.

Sam: I know.

Ivy: I mean, I really want to try to take better care of Jessica and Kay. And maybe I can call my own girls, you know, and see if they'll come home and maybe we could all just be a family.

Sam: Do you think they would?

Ivy: I don't know. I don't know. They were raised by nannies and then sent away to boarding school when they were really young. Sam, I don't know much about being a mother. But I do want to learn, and I want to try to fix all my mistakes.

Sam: I love you for wanting to try. But it's my fault what's happened to Jessica, ok? And I was thinking about what happened at the hospital and why you were worried about Grace coming home, but this isn't about you and me, Ivy. It's about Jessica needing her mother. That's why Grace needs to be here.

Ivy's voice: But if Grace comes home, I'll lose everything.

Sheridan: Maybe I am going crazy. Oh, god, this walk is doing me no good. I can't stop thinking about Marty. I can't stop thinking that I don't have a child to call my own. I just need to go back to the cottage and get my head together. Because I don't have a baby, and I might never have a baby, and I just need to start dealing with that fact, the fact that I might be facing a future without any children.

Luis: Tell Beth I came by, all right? I'll try and call her later.

Mrs. Wallace: Wait, Luis! Wait.

Luis: What? What is it?

Mrs. Wallace: Well, I -- I just remembered something. See, before Beth left, she said that if you came by to take Marty that it would be ok.

Luis: She did?

Mrs. Wallace: Yes. Yes, I'm sorry. I forgot that. You know how it is with old people. You know, sometimes our minds just go -- bzzt -- blank. Sometimes, you know. I'm sorry.

Luis: No need to apologize. All right, this is great. Where is he?

Mrs. Wallace: He's upstairs. You can go get him.

Luis: Thanks. All right, tell Beth to call me when she gets home, ok?

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, right. You bet I will. Oh, Precious, when Beth gets home, we are dead meat. Dead meat!

Ethan: You are so wrong. I am not afraid for Gwen to come back.

Fox: Ok. All right, whatever. I think the reason you're trying to hold me back from finding Gwen and the baby is because you don't want to make that decision.

Ethan: No, no, no, there's no decision to make. I'm not holding you back. I just want to see you do this thing right. Go to the police, that's all.

Fox: Like I said, man, whatever.

Ethan: You know what, actually, Fox, I have a better idea. Why don't you and I both go talk to my dad and tell him that we know where Gwen and Jane are?

Fox: All right. All right. Hey, look, help me finish these power of attorney papers and we'll go talk to the chief, ok?

Ethan: All right, good. Just so I'm clear, Fox, this means you're not going off by yourself to try to find Gwen and Jane, right? Right?

Fox: No. Wouldn't think of it.

Ethan: All right, let's print these out and get this done.

Fox's voice: I'm sorry, Ethan, but I'm leaving tonight to get Gwen -- without you or your father.

Theresa: And what about Fox? The poor guy thinks you're having his baby, Whitney. What are you going to tell him when he comes home and he finds out that you've given away his baby?

Whitney: Well, I'll -- I'll lie. Look, god, I'll think of something, ok?

Theresa: But your lies are getting bigger and bigger, and trust me when I tell you this is only going to end badly for you.

Whitney: Can you leave me alone, please? I know what I'm doing, all right? God.

Fox: Whitney, what are you talking about?

Whitney: Um -- well, Theresa and I were just thinking about what I might be able to, you know, keep down.

Fox: Hmm.

Whitney: And I was thinking about having a milkshake or something.

Fox: Maybe a milkshake, huh? Well, do it. I mean, if you think you can keep it down, go for it.

Whitney: Well, ok, but she was just -- you know, she was worried about me because she knew when we were kids, I was allergic to dairy, and she just worries about me.

Fox: Well, now that you're all grown-up, are you still allergic to dairy products?

Whitney: No, now I'm fine.

Fox: Well, then a milkshake sounds great. I'll make it while Ethan finishes the power of attorney papers.

Whitney: Oh. You have the papers already?

Ethan: Right here.

Theresa: Please don't do this, Whitney. You're going to regret it.

Whitney: No, I won't.

Theresa: I can't stay here and watch. I'll be back. I'm going to go check on my son.

Fox: Ok, so what do we do?

Ethan: Oh, I just have to ask you a few questions, and then both of you sign it, and I can even record it for you tomorrow.

Fox: All right. Sounds good. Just think -- a few minutes, you'll have your milkshake and my power of attorney to make any decision while I'm gone in case my trip, you know, takes longer than expected.

Kay: Jessica, wait! We just want to help!

Sam: What are you doing down here, Jessica? You should be upstairs resting.

Jessica: Leave me alone, Dad. Why can't you all just leave me alone?

Luis: All right, say "bye-bye" to Grandma.

Mrs. Wallace: Bye-bye, my big boy! You have a wonderful, wonderful time with your -- Daddy, ok, huh? Ok, there?

Luis: All right. Take it easy.

Mrs. Wallace: Yeah.

Luis: We'll see you later.

Mrs. Wallace: Ok, honey, bye-bye. Oh, he loves frozen peas, too. Bye. Ugh! Precious, I'm going to get the car keys and we are getting the hell out of dodge, ok? Look, come on. Come on. We got to go now before Beth comes home. Ah!

Beth: Mother.

Mrs. Wallace: Oh, Beth, what are you doing here?

Beth: I live here, remember? What is -- what did you do now, Mother?

Mrs. Wallace: Nothing. I've done nothing.

Beth: Where's Marty?

Fox: This right here will be the best milkshake you ever had, I guarantee.

Whitney: Mmm, it looks awesome. I'll have some in just a second, but why don't we do the papers, ok?

Fox: Ok. Fine by me. Ethan?

Ethan: Yeah, all right. First, actually, I need to know what kind of power of attorney you want. Do you want limited or unlimited?

Whitney: Well, what exactly is the difference?

Ethan: It's basically just what it means. Limited means you can only sign certain things for Fox, and unlimited means you can sign anything.

Fox: Well, unlimited's fine.

Ethan: Ok. Whitney, it's not that I don't trust you, of course, but, I mean, I'd be a lousy lawyer if I didn't tell Fox that, you know, giving unlimited power of attorney can be a dangerous thing sometimes.

Fox: Thanks for your -- your warning, Ethan, but like you said, I trust Whitney -- ahem -- you trust Whitney, so I think it's fine. I just want her to be able to make any kind of decision she has to while I'm gone, so unlimited's great.

Ethan: Ok. All right, pretty simple. Just sign right there.

Fox: Ahem. Ahem.

Whitney: No, wait.

Fox: What?

Whitney: I mean, it's nothing. It's just that it's such a big step, you know?

Fox: Well, I guess a lot of men wouldn't trust a woman enough to do this, but I trust you. I trust you with everything. It's not like I'm going to come home and find out you've given away my whole life, right?

Whitney's voice: You have no idea what I'm going to give away, Fox.

Beth: What is wrong with you? And where's Marty?

Mrs. Wallace: I've got to go.

Beth: What?

Mrs. Wallace: I've got to go to the bathroom! You know, so unless you want to clean up another mess, I suggest you stop the inquisition.

Beth: No, please, go right ahead. I'm going to go up and see Marty.

Mrs. Wallace: That's what you think.

Mrs. Wallace: What? No, no, no, that plan is not going to work anymore. No, see, if we drive away, Beth is going to hunt us down like rats! No. We got to stay here, hunker down, and ride it out. Ok, Precious, I got an idea. Hey, come on with me.

Sheridan: Luis. Oh, thank god, you're here.

Luis: Why, what's wrong?

Sheridan: Nothing. I'm -- I'm fine. No, I'm not. I'm not fine. I've been walking and thinking and --

Luis: Well, what is it? What is it?

Sheridan: I'm just -- I'm having a really hard time. I can't stop thinking about Marty. I can't stop thinking about our baby that died in the car. I can't stop thinking that, in my heart, Marty is really our son, and I'm just so confused right now.

Luis: Well, I've got a surprise for you -- something that should make you feel a whole lot better.

Ethan: I can have that filed first thing tomorrow.

Fox: Thanks, Ethan, I appreciate that.

Theresa: See you've signed the papers.

Fox: All signed, so now we know Whitney's free to take care of whatever she needs to while I'm gone. Listen, I want you to know how much I trust you. Listen, if it's ok, if you could you give us, like, a second? I want to say goodbye to Whitney.

Ethan: Yeah, but then we're going to go talk to my dad, right?

Fox: Yeah, of course.

Ethan: Ok.

Fox: Thanks.

Ethan: Theresa, can we go to the other room for a sec?

Fox: So I asked him to leave so that we could say goodbye to each other.

Theresa: Ethan, um, the power of attorney thing -- it means that Whitney can sign Fox's name to anything, right?

Ethan: Yeah, that's right, anything.

Theresa: It's totally legal?

Ethan: Completely.

Theresa's voice: Oh, Whitney. I hope you can live with yourself after this.

Fox: Ok, so now that you're all taken care of, I'm going to keep my promise to you. I'm going to bring home Theresa's baby.

Whitney: Thank you, Fox. Thank you so much. I mean, you don't know how much this means to me. Thank you.

Fox: Man, I'm going to miss you.

Whitney: I'm going to miss you, too.

Fox: You hold on in there, ok? Don't make your big debut till I get back.

Fox: Ok, bye.

Whitney: Bye. Be careful, ok?

Fox: Sorry, Ethan.

Whitney: I'm so sorry, Fox.

Jessica: You can't help me, Daddy, and you certainly can't help.

Sam: Jessica, honey, what happened? Why are you so upset?

Jessica: Ask her!

Kay: I don't know. I mean, we were just talking, right, Simone?

Simone: Yeah, just talking and --

Kay: We were worried about you, Jess. We're feeling bad for what you've been through.

Jessica: Oh. You have no idea what I've been through!

Kay: No, I don't. But I would like to help you get through it, if I can.

Simone: Me, too.

Jessica: No, you don't! Nobody cares whether I live or die!

Sam: Sweetheart, that is not true.

Jessica: Yes, it is! I used to think you cared, but you don't. Mom left me the first chance she got. Reese went after Charity the first chance he got. Kay ignored me totally until she saw that Reese was interested in me, and she tried to ruin that!

Kay: Jessica, I didn't try to ruin --

Jessica: Yes, you did!

Sam: Sweetheart, listen, I'm sorry you -- you felt ignored. But we love you. My god, we all love you.

Jessica: Who could love me when my own mother couldn't? She left me to go be with David. She left us all behind. She couldn't stand to be around me.

Sam: Sweetheart, listen to me, that is not true. Your mother loved you. She loves you very much.

Jessica: Then where is she? Why isn't she here? Oh, you know what, who cares? I hate you, all of you!

Sam: Jessica!

Kay: I'm sorry, Dad. She doesn't mean that.

Sam: I think she does. Why hasn't Grace called back? I mean, she would know what to do.

Tabitha: Oh, look at Ivy. Huh. She's absolutely terrified that Grace will come back and that Sam will find out that Ivy set David up -- yes -- to pretend to be her husband. Oh, and then, of course, Ivy will lose Sam. Oh, what fun, Endora.

[Phone rings]

Grace: Sam? Hello, it's Grace. Is anyone there?

Jessica: Ah! Why?

Mrs. Wallace: Ugh. Ok. Ok, Precious, this gives us a fighting chance. Let us just hope and pray that Beth searches the house first for Marty before she comes after us, ok, yeah?

Beth: Mother? Mother, where are you? I can't find the baby. He's not in his room. He's not downstairs. Do you have him up here? Hey. You in there?

Mrs. Wallace: Oh. Here we go, Precious. Listen, this is it. I just want you to know that it's been an honor serving with you. I'm in here, Beth, yes!

Beth: Why's the door locked? Is Marty in there with you?

Mrs. Wallace: What did you say? The batteries in my hearing aids are low!

Beth: I said is Marty in there with you? He's not in his room! He's not downstairs! Do you have him in here?

Mrs. Wallace: No, he's not here!

Beth: Well, where is he?

Mrs. Wallace: Marty's with Luis! Luis came by and took him.

Beth: What? At this hour? Where did they go?

Mrs. Wallace: Come again?

Beth: I said where did they go, Mother? Where did Luis take my son?

Sheridan: Luis, what are you talking about?

Luis: I told you, I've got something that's going to make you feel a whole lot better.

Luis: Come here, buddy! Come on! Look what I found.

Sheridan: Marty! Come here, honey! Oh!

Luis: Yeah!

Marty: Hi.

Sheridan: Yeah, hey!

Marty: Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!

Sheridan: Hi!

[Marty babbles]

Sheridan: Hi.

Luis: Hey, buddy.

Sam: You know, I'd better go up and see if Jessica's all right.

Ivy: No, Sam, wait. I think maybe you need to give her a little space.

Tabitha: Yes, you know, Ivy's right. The girl needs time to calm down.

Kay: Yeah, she's too upset, Dad. She'll just get madder if we try to talk to her now.

Sam: Yeah, maybe you're right. But I don't understand why Grace hasn't called back. I left a message. I mean, she'd know how to handle this.

Grace: Sam? Look, I'm returning your call. I'm at the hotel now, so you can call back anytime. I hope everything's ok. Bye.

Sam: I don't know what to do about Jessica.

Kay: Don't worry. She's been through a lot. I'm sure she didn't mean what she said.

Simone: Yeah, Kay's right. I'm sure she'll be fine once she settles down.

Kay: Yeah, sure she will. I mean, once she remembers that we all love her, she'll be her old self again.

Tabitha: They don't know it yet, but Jessica's problems are just beginning, starting with what she's up to right now. Her pain is manifesting itself in a way that Sam may never understand.

Ethan: Theresa? Theresa? You all right? What's wrong?

Theresa: I'm really worried about Whitney. You know, she hasn't been eating much, you know, and she's barely gained any weight since she's been pregnant. Now Fox is leaving so close to her due date.

Ethan: Theresa, he won't be gone long.

Theresa: I hope not.

[Car starts]

Ethan: That's Fox's car. Damn it, he lied to me. He is going off to find Gwen and Jane himself. I can't believe this. I'm going to have a decision to make -- Gwen or Theresa. There's no way I can escape it now.

Fox: I'm sorry, Ethan, but I had to go. I have to do this alone. I just hope Whitney's ok by the time I get back.

Whitney: Fox, I am so sorry. You deserve better. But I have to stick to my plan, no matter what. Ugh. Ah, ah, ah. Oh, my god. Ah! Ah! Oh, my god! I'm in labor! Ah! Ah!

Beth: Mother! Open this door! Get out here and tell me where Luis took Marty!

Mrs. Wallace: He took him to see Sheridan!

Beth: Sheridan. Damn you! I told you not to let that happen!

Mrs. Wallace: He took him to see Sheridan, and he's going to keep him there for a few days!

Beth: No. No! No!

Sheridan: Luis, thank you. Thank you. This is -- thank you for bringing him to me. I love you so much.

Luis: I love you, too. I love you more than anything in the world. I would do anything for you. You know that, don't you?

Sheridan: This is what I needed. This is exactly what I needed.

On the Next Passions:

Eve: Teenage girls can be overly dramatic. Everything is life or death.

Jessica: Ah!

Ethan: Why is Whitney lying to Fox? What, she doesn't want her baby's father to be here when the baby comes?

Sheridan: Oh, Luis, I have never been happier than I am right now.

Beth: She's going to be your problem now.
