Theresa: Gwen, I really should put my feet up. They're a little swollen. Would you mind handing me that pillow?
Gwen: Of course not.
Rebecca: Oh, for heaven's sake. This is ridiculous.
Theresa: Thank you. What's that, rebecca?
Rebecca: My daughter acting like a servant waiting on the maid's daughter, that's what.
Gwen: Mother, it's ok. All right, look, theresa's carrying our babies, and we want her to be as comfortable as possible, don't we, sweetheart?
Ethan: Of course we do.
Theresa: Mama, you're still up.
Pilar: Yes, I couldn't sleep, and I see no one else could, either.
Theresa: Well, come sit down.
Pilar: I see what you're doing, theresa, and I think you're pushing gwen too far.
Theresa: Not far enough to make up for what gwen and rebecca have done to us -- stealing my little boy, taking away your home, getting you and everyone else in the family fired. No, I'm going to enjoy this pregnancy, and I'm going to keep these babies, and I'm getting little ethan back, as well.
Pilar: Not if you make gwen suspicious.
Gwen: Oh, honey, theresa's up to something, I know it. I just -- I don't trust her.
Ethan: Well, we have to trust her. We don't have much of a choice, ok? She's carrying our babies.
Gwen: I know. It's the only reason I'm not wringing her neck.
Ethan: I have to go back to the office, actually.
Gwen: Now, at this hour?
Ethan: Yeah. I just remembered I left the papers that theresa has to sign concerning her medical expenses. I will see you later.
Rebecca: You are so right, gwen. Look at her face. She is up to something. But what?
Julian: No, don't turn us away, chad. Your mother and I love you. We want to help you however we can.
Chad: And I told you already, I don't want your help, all right? I hate you! I hate you and my mother, dr. Russell!
Julian: Chad, you're speaking out of pain.
Chad: Hell, yeah, I'm speaking out of pain! You've brought nothing but pain into my life. You caused me to lose whitney.
Julian: Look, I know it's tragic, but we are so sorry.
Chad: No, sorry doesn't cut it. The fact is if I would have known who you were before, I wouldn't have been in love with my half sister. Now I can't love her. You know what? So do me a favor and get out of here.
Julian: All right, now, that's enough! Your mother and I have apologized to you over and over again out of love, but I'm your father, and I'm tired of you lashing out! Now, I am not leaving here until you listen to what I have to say, and you will listen to every word.
Fox: Whitney, why are you looking at that website?
Whitney: This is terrible. This is how big I could possibly be at three months? I got to hurry if I'm going to pass chad's baby off as fox'S. Um --
fox: Oh, my god. Are you pregnant?
Luis: Sheridan -- sheridan? Where is she?
Sheridan: Mother. Are you really here? Is it true?
Katherine: Oh, my darling sheridan, yes, it's true. I am your mother. Oh, my god, I've missed you so much. I'm so sorry I was gone for so long.
Sheridan: Oh, mother --
katherine: Oh --
singer: I would hold the hand of the one who could lead me places and kiss the lips of the one who could sing so sweet and i would fly on the wings of the bird I knew could take me highest breathe in, breathe out you keep me alive you are the fire burning inside of me you are my passion for life
Fox: Oh, my god, whitney. Are you pregnant with chad's baby? My god, you are, aren't you? That's terrible.
Whitney: No. No. Fox, you're wrong. I'm not pregnant.
Fox: You're not?
Fox: Well, why are you looking at this website then --
whitney: Well --
fox: If you're not pregnant?
Whitney: Well, I was just doing some research for theresa, that's all.
Fox: Uh-huh. For theresa?
Whitney: Uh-huh. Well, you know how she's pregnant with twins, and she just wanted me to research a couple things for her.
Fox: Oh. Whew -- I think I just had a heart attack there.
Whitney: Well, I am so sorry about that.
Fox: No, I saw you looking at this, you know, and a couple of things raced through my brain. I thought -- you know, can you imagine if you were pregnant with chad's baby how horrible that would be?
Whitney: Well, I'm not. So let's not even discuss it, ok? Let's just forget all about that.
Whitney: So anyway --
Whitney: How's work going? You know, I heard you came up with a new plan to deal with the media about your grandfather being shot, right?
Fox: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I did. I came up with a plan. It's a terrific plan, and I'm not going to let my father just dismiss it.
Whitney: Is that what he's trying to do?
Fox: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, and he didn't even look at it. He just tossed it on the desk like it was last night's garbage.
Whitney: Well, that's awful. Why would he do something like that?
Fox: Because he doesn't take me seriously. And admittedly, I've pretty much played around my entire life, but I'm serious now. I'm working hard to be a part of crane industries.
Whitney: Well, I can see that, but I guess julian can't, huh?
Fox: Nope. All he cares about is talking to chad. I'm the son he's known since the day I was born, but he still prefers his bastard son over me.
Julian: Your mother and I want to have a relationship with you.
Chad: Well, it's a little too late for that, daddio.
Julian: Yes, I know it's late, but I'm trying to make up for that. And I can see, even though you're angry, that you long to be part of a family. Well, I'm offering you -- I'm offering you the chance to belong, to have a loving mother and father, the chance to be part of one of the most powerful families in the world, the cranes.
Rebecca: Look, you can cater to that cow if you want to, but I intend to do something about it.
Gwen: About what?
Rebecca: About this whole situation with her ordering you around. Come on, let's go.
Rebecca: Upstairs. I have an idea.
Gwen: Ok, theresa, so we are going to go upstairs. If you need anything else, just call one of the servants, all right?
Theresa: Oh, I was just going to ask -- never mind.
Pilar: Theresa, I'm telling you, gwen is suspicious, and rebecca's watching your every move.
Theresa: Yes, I know.
Pilar: Really? Then how do you expect to keep these babies, mija? You are their surrogate. And gwen believes that both these babies are hers and ethan's, and she expects to get custody the minute they're born.
Theresa: I know, mama. And I don't know how I'm going to keep these babies, but I will. And since I can't order gwen around, I'm bored. I'm going up to bed. Hmm.
Pilar: All right, theresa. Hey, sleep well, mija.
Theresa: Ok, I will. And don't worry about anything, ok?
Theresa: Mr. Wheeler.
Martin: I'm sorry if I'm interrupting.
Theresa: Oh, no, I was just going up to bed. I'm sorry for what you're going through. How is mrs. Wheeler?
Martin: Oh, she's pretty shaken up, as you can imagine.
Theresa: Oh, I can. Shooting a man, especially a powerful man like alistair crane. I hope the police don't charge her.
Martin: Well, we don't know exactly what happened. We'll wait and see how things turn out. But if mr. Crane dies and -- she could be charged with his murder.
Pilar: Most people would pin a medal on her.
Martin: That's what I've heard. Anyway, you know, mrs. Wheeler -- she's out taking a walk to clear her head.
Theresa: Well, why don't you come in, have a drink?
Martin: Thank you.
Theresa: What is it, mama? Why are you staring at him like that?
Pilar: He reminds me so much of your father. I know it's impossible. The way he walks and his build.
Theresa: Yes, it is impossible. And I know you miss papa, but I will never forgive him for abandoning you and all of his kids. Now, I'm going upstairs, ok? Good night, mr. Wheeler.
Martin: Good night.
Martin: Can I get you a drink, mrs. Lopez-fitzgerald?
Pilar: Yes, all right, thank you. Just a small one. And please, call me pilar.
Martin: Ok, and bob.
Pilar: Ok. Oh -- martin's candle has gone out.
Martin's voice: I could try to ease your pain, pilar, but would it if you knew I was martin, your husband?
Luis: Sheridan! Sheridan? Oh, my god, alistair could have ordered a hit on her from his deathbed. I've got to find her.
Sheridan: Oh, mother, I've missed you so much.
Katherine: I know, darling. I've missed you. Oh, can you ever forgive me for leaving you?
Sheridan: Why did you leave me?
Katherine: Oh, my god! Sheridan! Darling. Oh, my god. Oh. Sheridan? Sheridan?
whitney: Fox, you are very uptight. You need to relax.
Fox: No. What I need to do is get my father's attention.
Whitney: Ok. All right. Well, you can conquer the world later. Why don't you try to relax a little bit, ok?
Fox: Yeah, that feels good.
Whitney: Good. Now close your eyes. I can actually think of another way you could relax.
Whitney: No, no, no, don't argue with me. I'm trying to help you out here.
Ethan: Fox, did you -- whoa.
Whitney: Oh, ethan --
ethan: Sorry. I'm sorry. Sorry, sorry. I should have knocked.
Fox: No. No, it's ok. It's fine. What -- what are you doing here this hour?
Ethan: I -- I just came by to pick up some paperwork. I saw your light was on, but -- actually, I wanted to talk to you about how you're going to handle the news coverage about what happened to alistair -- but I'll come back. I'll come back --
fox: No, no, no. Ethan, wait, hold on -- no, it's important. We should probably do that now. You don't mind, do you? It's important work and I --
whitney: Oh. No, no. I understand. No, no, it's really fine.
Fox: You sure?
Fox: You're going to be ok?
Whitney: Yeah, I'll be fine. I'll see you later, then.
Whitney: God, this is not working. I've got to sleep with fox fast. You know what? I need to talk to theresa. She's the only one who will understand what I'm going through.
Ethan: Look, look, I'm really sorry. I had no idea that you and whitney -- it's moving kind of quick, don't you think?
Fox: Well -- no, no. I mean, I don't think so. You know, it's what we both want, so -- besides, you know, I'm not going to lose her to someone else, ethan.
Ethan: Fox, I understand that, but it's going to cause some really bad blood with you and chad, you know.
Fox: Well, you know what, though? Not that it's any of your business, frankly, but chad's going to have to get over it, ok, because whitney and I are a couple now, we're seeing each other, bottom line. It's the way it is.
Ethan: You're right. None of my business. I just came by to talk to you about --
fox: No, I think I know why you came here, ethan. You're trying to undercut me, right? You're afraid I might outshine you?
Ethan: No, that's not true, fox.
Fox: No, no, no, no, let me tell you something. I'm not going to let you step over me, ok? And I'm not going to let my father pass me by for my bastard half brother chad.
Julian: Chad, I know that this has all been so traumatic and losing whitney, learning eve and I are your parents, but please, know that we want to be here for you.
Chad: Well, that and a dollar would buy me a cup of coffee.
Julian: I see you haven't thrown away the proposal I sent you.
Chad: Yeah, I hadn't had a chance.
Julian: The offer's still good. You can have whatever you want if you come work for crane industries.
Chad: What, are you bribing me into forgetting that you're a lying piece of trash?
Julian: Yes, I am, but I'm doing it out of love. I think you should consider my offer. Your own recording studio, a beautiful office, whatever salary you think is fair. You can write your own ticket. I know this is hard for you to accept, chad, but I love you. I've done some horrible things, and I want to rectify that. I want to -- I want to be a real father to you, starting now. You remember before you discovered that I was your father? We had a pretty good relationship, didn't we? We -- we can again. You can always count on me to do what's ever best for you, no matter what the price. So what do you say? Will you come work for your old man?
Martin: It -- it must have been very difficult for you when your husband disappeared.
Pilar: It was. Everything changed. I had five children, and my youngest, paloma, was an infant. The police did an investigation, but they never found anything. And finally, they just told me to move on and just to give up. Martin was gone, without a trace.
Martin: That must have been hard to accept.
Pilar: Oh, I've never accepted it, as you can see. I light the candle every night to light the way home for my martin.
Martin: Well, that had to be hard on your children, as well, I would imagine.
Pilar: Yes. Antonio -- well, antonio left soon after, so when luis got older, he became head of the house. I mean, he was both brother and father to miguel and theresa.
Martin: Then you sent your daughter paloma to live in mexico with your sister?
Pilar: Yes. Even after I started working as the crane housekeeper, finances we're really bad. And I just -- I just thought that she would have a better life in mexico, a better life than I could give her. But my heart was broken, you know, and I cried every day, missing her.
Martin: Well, at least paloma had a happy childhood.
Pilar: Yes. And I'm very grateful to you and your wife, to know that my paloma had your love and your guidance all these years.
Martin: Oh, we fell in love with her the moment we met her. She became like the daughter we never had.
Martin: What about you? How did you manage to go on?
Pilar: It wasn't easy. I missed my husband, going to bed alone every night, missing him. I'm sorry. Oh, I'm so sorry. As the kids say, "too much information."
Martin: No, no, please, please, I'm interested. You know, I feel as if we know each other. Your sister spoke of you so often.
Pilar: I feel as though I know you, too, somehow. You know, lately, I have the strongest feeling that martin will be coming home.
Martin: Your eyes shine with love when you talk about him. Do you still love him?
Pilar: Of course I do. He's my husband.
Martin: So, you know, if he did come back, you'd just, you know, forgive him and take him back?
Pilar: I don't care where he's been or what he's done. If he's alive, I would thank god and open my arms to him.
Katherine: Sheridan? Sheridan? Oh, my god. I've got to get help.
My god. It's my grave!
Sheridan: Mama -- mama, oh, come back to me. Please, don't leave me.
Katherine: Oh, sheridan --
luis: Sheridan -- thank god. Is she all right?
Katherine: She must have fainted, but I --
luis: Oh, no, she's sleepwalking. See, she does this when she's stressed out.
Katherine: Sleepwalking? Then she was talking in her sleep?
Luis: Yeah. She won't remember anything. Most of the time, she comes here to the crane mausoleum. Her mother's grave. You know, sheridan's life was never the same after her mother died.
Singer: You are my passion for life
theresa: Don't you worry, my babies. As soon as you're born, the two of you, little ethan, and I will be one big happy family, no matter what gwen, rebecca, or ivy try to do to stop us.
[Knock on door]
Theresa: Come in.
Whitney: Hey. I'm glad you're still awake.
Theresa: Hey. What's wrong?
Whitney: Well, it's chad -- it's -- it's fox. I don't know what I'm going to do.
Ethan: Hold on a minute, all right? I'm not here to take anything away from you. I came to get some papers -- papers that, mind you, have nothing to do with crane industries.
Ethan: Really. They're just papers that theresa needs to sign. They deal with the pregnancy. Besides, you know -- hey, you know as well as I do that even if I wanted to move up the corporate ladder ahead of you it'd be pretty impossible, now that I don't have the crane blood, right?
Fox: Right, exactly, I know, but I was just afraid maybe you forgot for a second there.
Ethan: Hmm. No, fox, I haven't forgotten about that. Julian made sure that I would never forget that. He threw me out of the house, he threw me out of my job. He threw me out of the family when he found out sam bennett was my dad. I don't think I'd forget about that.
Fox: Hey, listen, ethan, man, I'm sorry. I -- I'm not trying to attack you. I just -- man, I'm under so much pressure here lately.
Ethan: Look, I understand. But I do want you to know something. I got a chance to look at your plan in the conference room, the one that you drew up about the news coverage for alistair.
Ethan: And it's good, fox. It's brilliant.
Fox: You really think so?
Ethan: Absolutely. Given the short amount of time you had to work on it, yeah.
Fox: Yeah, you know, if I could just get my old man to look at it.
Ethan: Oh, I'm sure he has other things on his mind right now.
Ethan: And what is this about chad? What, he wants to bring chad into the company?
Fox: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I know, and get this -- he wants to give him the corner office.
Ethan: You're kidding. The great office in the corner?
Fox: Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yeah, that's right. You know, I want that office. It's actually one of the reasons I'm here tonight, you know. I want to show my old man that I'm competent. And I'll be damned if I'm going to let somebody come in who doesn't know anything about the family business try to take over my position simply because he found out he was a crane.
Ethan: Chad is a crane, fox. I mean, how does he feel about it?
Fox: Well, you know chad. You know, he doesn't want anything to do with crane industries -- or julian crane.
Julian: So what do you think, chad?
Chad: I don't know. Yeah, I don't know what I think anymore.
Julian: Well, I'll give you all the time you need. Just look at the proposal again and know that I want to be your father -- I mean, a real father. But I'll do whatever you like, and you'll take your time.
Chad: Man. I can't believe julian crane is my father. Now what do I do?
Martin: Pilar, I don't understand how you can be so devoted to a man who abandoned you.
Pilar: Well, we don't know that for sure. For a long time, luis thought that martin had been kidnapped or that he left for some extremely important reason. Whatever the reason, I know my husband loved us.
Martin: But you never heard a word from him in all those years.
Pilar: As I said, I -- martin probably didn't have a choice. My husband would never abandon his family. Maybe he left to protect us in some way -- although from what, I don't know.
Martin: But you didn't have to be alone all those years. You could have, you know, had him declared dead and gotten on with your life. A beautiful woman like you, you could have easily remarried.
Pilar: No. Martin and I took vows -- "till death do us part." I will remain loyal to my husband until I know he's dead, or until he comes back to harmony and tells me he doesn't want me anymore. Sometimes, I wish I'd hear that he's dead, because sometimes it's worse not knowing.
Martin: Pilar, there's something that I have to say to you.
Gwen: Who are you calling?
Rebecca: An old friend, someone who's going to put a stop to theresa once and for all. Binky? Is that you?
Binky: Yes. Who's this?
Rebecca: Oh, benjamin cahill, don't tell me you don't recognize my voice.
Rebecca: Mm-hmm. It's me.
Binky: Oh, my heavens.
Binky: You know, rebecca, I was just thinking about you. I was thinking about that night in new orleans. I've never seen a woman earn so many beads.
Rebecca: Oh, binky, that was a wonderful night, wasn't it?
Binky: Oh, becky, it was memorable.
Rebecca: I know. Oh, listen, binky, I need your help with a little problem I'm having. Do you have time to listen?
Binky: Absolutely, darling. I can always make time for you.
Rebecca: Oh, binky, you are such a doll. I need your help to get revenge on this woman who has been a pain in my backside for years. But let me tell you all about her. You see, I don't even know why she's in our life. I mean, the woman is practically an immigrant.
Martin: I have something to tell you.
Pilar: Wait. Wait. I know what you're going to say.
Martin: You do?
Pilar: Yes. You're going to say what every one of my friends has always told me for years -- to just accept the loss, that martin's never coming back. But that's something I can't do.
Martin: What if he doesn't ever come back?
Pilar: I will never stop hoping. I know he will come back to me. I just -- I wish he was here with me to grieve for our son antonio. Only another parent can understand what I'm going through. Please, you mustn't feel sorry for me. I've had a good life, despite all my hardships, because I have incredibly wonderful children.
Martin: Yes, they -- they do seem like good people.
Pilar: And while I said that I would open my arms to martin if he came back, my children don't feel the same. Luis and theresa have a lot of resentment and anger towards their father. And if martin comes home, they would have a tough time forgiving him, and he would have a tough time explaining to them his absence.
Sheridan: Mother, why did you leave me?
Katherine: I -- I'm so sorry for what she's been through.
Luis: So am I. Hey. You know, I hate to even ask you this, but if you could just pretend to be her mother, it would really help her through the sleep zone. And she just needs a little kindness.
Katherine: Oh. Sheridan, I'm so sorry I had to leave you. I had no idea that alistair would be so cruel to you. I love you, sheridan. I love you. I love you.
Sheridan: Oh, mommy! I miss you so much! Mommy.
Martin: Yeah, well, it sounds like luis and theresa are pretty resentful about their father.
Pilar: Yes, they are. I think they would rather believe him dead. I will never, ever give up hope. It's what keeps me going. When antonio came home, it gave me more hope for martin's return.
Martin: I hope you're not crushed if he never does.
Pilar: Oh, I don't even think about that possibility. You know, the more I talk to you, the more you remind me of my husband. It's uncanny.
Pilar: Yes. I never talk to anyone about my husband. But you're so easy to talk to.
Martin: I'm glad.
Martin: Anyway -- you know, whatever happens, I wish you the best.
Sheridan: I missed you so much, mommy. Why did you have to leave me?
Katherine: I had to leave, darling. I never meant to hurt you.
Luis: I think she's asleep now. All right, thanks for playing along. I'll put her to bed now, ok?
Katherine: Is she all right?
Luis: Yeah, yeah, she'll be fine.
Sheridan: Oh --
luis: All right.
Sheridan: Oh --
luis: Come on, I'll walk you to the main house.
Katherine: Oh, that's not necessary, luis. No.
Luis: Look, I'm sorry to put you through this.
Katherine: Oh, anything to help.
Luis: Thanks. All right, come on. Come on, honey.
Sheridan: All right.
Katherine: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, my darling sheridan, I caused you so much pain.
Theresa: Whitney, what's going on?
Whitney: Well, first off, chad and I reached an agreement to be friends, and we're just going to keep our distance from each other for a little while.
Theresa: Well, that's good. What about fox?
Whitney: I realize you are right about fox and that he'd be a good husband and father, and I'm going to try to move forward with him.
Theresa: So, what's the problem?
Whitney: Well, he's so busy with his work right now. He's so busy with his work, he doesn't have any time for me.
Theresa: Whitney, he really loves you. You just have to be patient. I mean, what's the rush?
Whitney: Well, I mean, I just want to move forward with my life, that's all.
Theresa: But you've been through a very traumatic time. Don't push it. Just let your relationship develop with fox. Just take things as they come, and just wait. It'll happen.
Whitney: I don't want to wait. I can't wait.
Theresa: I understand. Fox is a wonderful man. You don't want some other woman to come along and snap him up.
Whitney: Yeah, yeah. That's exactly right.
Theresa: Oh, believe me, you do not have to worry. Fox has been in love with you for a very long time. He's not going anywhere.
Whitney: Yeah, well, how can you be so sure of that?
Theresa: Just be patient. In time you and fox will connect.
Whitney's voice: I don't have time. I have to seduce fox now.
Fox: So what do you think? You know, you think I'm right on this? Show the world that crane industries is business as usual, with or without alistair crane?
Ethan: I think you nailed it on the head. I think it's a brilliant plan.
[Knock on door]
Fox: Dad. Just the man I wanted to see. Look, I've handled everything, and I've prepared a speech for you to give the media.
Julian: Well, this is -- this is good. This is great -- great work, ethan.
Ethan: Julian, no, no, this is not my work.
Julian: Well, I'm glad you called ethan in for help on this.
Ethan: Julian, this is entirely fox's project. I had nothing to do with it.
Julian: Oh, no?
Ethan: No, no, I just came in to get some papers. This -- he did this all by himself.
Julian: Then good work, fox.
Fox: You don't believe him, do you? You think he's lying to try to make me look good.
Julian: Well, I'm -- I'm sure his work was minimal.
Fox: Uh-huh. Look, I want to show you a couple of other things that I've been working on -- also without ethan's help. It's an idea on how to handle the international markets.
Julian: That's all fine and wonderful, but, first, there's someone I want to introduce you to, someone that's going to be working with you.
Fox: What do you mean, working with me? A critical cables leaving the subdead in the water where british crews off of the coast of ireland, canadian sailor lieutenant
martin: Oh, katherine. Are you ok?
Katherine: Oh, martin. I was out walking, and I ran into sheridan. I didn't realize it, but she was sleepwalking. She was so pitiful, martin. She thought she was a little girl again, and she called me "mommy." I thought she knew the truth.
Martin: I had a similar experience with pilar. She was telling me how hard life was after I left. Katherine, you were so right. We can never tell anyone who we really are. Never.
Rebecca: So, binky, can you take care of this little problem for me?
Binky: Absolutely, becky, but I'm going to need for you to take care of something for me, too, if you know what I mean.
Rebecca: Binky, i know exactly what you mean. And don't you worry. You know me. I can meet your needs, no matter how kinky.
Binky: Oh --
rebecca: So, how soon can you come over?
Binky: Well, it'll take me a little time to draw up the papers, but I can come over right after that, if it's not going to be too late.
Rebecca: Don't be silly. I am dying to see you. Bye-bye, now.
Gwen: You are incorrigible.
Rebecca: But I do get the job done. Now, don't worry, everything is going to work out just fine. You are going to get your babies, and theresa is going to be looking up the wrong end of the pinata.
Theresa: You really need to relax, whitney. You and fox need to take your time, get to know each other, and give him time to establish himself at crane industries.
Whitney: Yeah, I know he's into his work right now, but --
theresa: Then give him the space to pursue it. You know, I think you should wait at least a couple of months before you get heavy into a relationship with fox.
Whitney: A couple of months? I don't have that much time. I can't wait a couple of months for fox.
Fox: You brought someone in to work with me? Who? Ethan?
Ethan: No, no, julian didn't say anything about this to me.
Fox: Well, then who?
Julian: Would you send in our new man, please?
Chad: Hello, brother.
Rebecca: Theresa's up to no good, and I am going to stop her.
Tabitha: Doesn't look like she needs any loosening up.
Fox: One person the world's going to look to as the next alistair crane, and, gentleman, make no mistake, that one person is going to be me!
