[Flashback to Fox's conversation with Whitney outside the Blue Note.]
Whitney: Love isn't supposed to hurt, and this hurts! I'm hurting, I'm torn! I don't --
Fox: What did you say? Are you in love with me? If you'd only tell me how you feel.
Ethan: Oh, you're up, too, huh?
Fox: I figured I'd get a couple laps in. Whoo!
Ethan: You overdo it? You look like you're in pain.
Fox: Well, love will do that to you.
Fox: That's right -- Fox Crane, playboy of the western world, is in love. Somebody call Liz Smith, right? The tabloids will have a field day with this one. Whew. I used to change girlfriends as often as I changed my socks, Ethan, because, to be honest with you, I guess I never really cared about anything other than myself. Until now. You know, to tell you the truth, if I knew love was going to be like this, I probably would've avoided it for at least a couple of more years, you know? I swear, it's like -- it's like the worst feeling I ever had, you know? I've never felt better.
Ethan: It's -- it's not Theresa, is it?
Fox: No. No, not to worry, former elder Crane brother. It's not Theresa.
Ethan: I'm not worried. I'm not in love with Theresa.
Fox: Right. Look, I don't even want to go there, ok? Whatever goes on between you and your wife and Theresa is between the three of you, and Father Lonigan -- that is, if you still go to confession. I'm in love with someone else.
Ethan: Well? Come on, who? Who is it?
Fox: All right, all right. I guess I got to talk to another guy about this, and I can't really talk to Chad, so, what the hell? It might as well be you. All right, here we go. Um -- I'm in love with Whitney Russell.
[Flashback to T.C.'s discussion with Eve.]
Eve: Yes. Yes, T.C. T.C., it's true. I did -- I did have another pregnancy. I had a baby. I had a baby boy.
Liz: T.C., I saw the light still on. Are you all right?
T.C.: So many lies, and this. I was so confused when Eve told me about losing the baby boy. She led me to believe that that son was mine, and then when she didn't tell me the truth about it -- now I know why -- because the baby wasn't mine. Liz, I grieved so much for that little boy, and for Eve. Now I find out that the baby wasn't mine in the first place. It was Julian Crane's.
Liz: Poor man. You deserve so much better than this. I hate my sister for what she did to you.
T.C.: I love my daughters so much, but I've always longed for a son.
Liz: T.C., You can still have a son. It's not too late. You should have a son of your own, T.C. You deserve it.
T.C.: No, Liz. Eve thinks that she's too old to have another child.
Liz: Eve? T.C., You aren't thinking of taking her back, are you
Eve: Thank you for helping me through this, Julian. I don't think I would've gotten through the night if it wasn't for you.
Julian: I'll always be here for you, my love. I let you down once, but never again, I promise.
Eve: I believe you.
Julian: I have no right to ask, but I want to stay in your life any way I can, no matter how small. Whatever you decide.
Eve: Well, you'll always be part of my life, Julian. We share a child, a son.
Julian: And I hope that the three of us can have a future together. I hope -- I pray that we can finally be the family we should've been all those years ago. Am I crazy to hope for that?
Sheridan: What was that?
Luis: It came from Paloma's room.
Nick: Buenas noches, muchacha. You're mine now. You're all mine, sweetheart.
Singer: I would hold the hand of the one who could lead me places; and kiss the lips of the one who could sing so sweet; and I, would fly on the wings of the bird, I knew could take me highest. Breathe in, breathe out. You keep me alive; you are the fire burning inside of me. You are my passion for life.
Liz: Eve? You want Eve back after everything she's done?
T.C.: No, Liz, of course not. It -- I don't know what I was thinking. Just -- you know, it's going to take me some time to adjust to all of this. You just don't forget about your marriage in one evening.
Liz: No, no, no, of course not, T.C., no matter what sort of marriage it was.
T.C.: I suppose my dream of having a son is dead, as well.
Liz: Never give up on your dreams, T.C. My dreams are what got me through when life got tough.
T.C.: Liz, it would've been so wonderful. I could've passed on the love of tennis to my son just like my father did to me. My father sacrificed so much for me, Liz. Every spare minute he had, he worked with me, he coached me. I would do the same thing for my son. My son could go on to achieve the goals I didn't achieve. He could go on and play the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, the Olympics.
Liz: Excuse me, T.C., but don't you think that sounds just a little bit sexist? I mean, after all, Whitney got pretty close to the top.
T.C.: Yeah -- Liz, I didn't mean it that way. It's just that I finally figured out that Whitney did everything for me. She didn't do it for herself. You know, I spent so much time trying to make her Harmony's own Serena Williams, and then Chad came along and just ruined everything. Whitney wants to sing, and I can't blame her for that. That's her passion. I guess she gets that from her mother.
Liz: Whitney can do whatever Whitney sets her mind to.
T.C.: Yeah. But a son -- oh, a son would've been so nice to have. You know, I don't know why I'm going on about this because it's not going to happen.
Liz: No, no, no, T.C. you're right. Your son would be incredible. Don't give up on that dream.
T.C.: Liz, I have to. Eve is out of my life.
Liz: And Eve is the only woman out there? I don't think so, T.C. You can have the son you always wanted, but with another woman.
Julian: Am I mad? Is there hope for us, a future?
Eve: I'm sorry, Julian. Please, I -- I can't think about that right now. I can't think about anything after what just happened with my family.
Julian: Yes, I know. I'm sorry. I -- above all else, I want you to be happy.
Eve: "Happy." That's not even on the horizon anymore.
Julian: Oh, now, don't say that. One day you'll find joy again. I hope it's with me, but if not, so be it. I -- I can't tell you how tortured I am about what happened tonight, but at least something good did come of it. At least now we can search for our son in the open. We can use the media, the police. I'll call the F.B.I. There are no more secrets. We can shout it from the rooftops.
Eve: Oh, god, Julian, I pray you're right, and Alistair has foiled our dream of finding our son so many times, yet that's the only dream I have left.
Julian: But we will find him. I've not forgotten my promise.
Eve: Yes, I'm sure it sounds very silly, but I keep thinking that he could be the one thing that brings Whitney and Simone back to me, and once they get used to the idea that they have a brother, then of course they're going to be curious. You know, and if we find him --
Julian: When we find him.
Eve: When we find him. Then they'll -- they'll meet him, and they'll like him, and they'll welcome him into their lives and -- and then maybe the hatred they have for me will soften up just a little bit.
Julian: Of course it will.
Eve: I hope it's not just another dream. I mean, just think of it -- if our son helped to reunite me with my daughters. But we'd have to find him first. We'd have to find our son.
Ethan: Fox, how can you do this? I thought the four of you were like best friends, practically inseparable, you know?
Fox: You think I wanted this to happen? I think it sucks, frankly. I tried to fight my feelings for Whitney for months, but it's not happening. She's in my genes, and what's worse is she found out. I didn't want to tell her because I didn't want to hurt her, but she found out anyway, and things have been pretty tense between us ever since.
Ethan: Does Chad know?
Fox: Chad -- god, no. No, Chad doesn't know. Thank god.
Ethan: You need to be careful. I've known Chad a long time, you know, and he is true blue. But this could really destroy your friendship, you know -- I mean, even worse.
Fox: No, it's not a big deal; it's not going to come to that, you know? I'm not going to pursue her. There's no way I'm going to take her away from Chad. It wouldn't be right, you know? Besides, it's up to her. It's her choice, you know? If she wants to spend the rest of her life with Chad, then I guess I'll just have to spend the rest of my life getting over her, no matter how much it hurts.
Nick: You made enough noise to wake the dead. It's time to say adios.
Luis: I hope Paloma's ok.
Sheridan: That was a pretty loud crash.
[Knock on door]
Luis: Paloma? Paloma, open up.
Julian: You need to get some sleep. You are exhausted after what's happened. You just can't think straight right now.
Eve: You know, T.C. and I had a rule in our marriage that we would never go to bed angry. We'd stay up, and we'd talk it through, and we'd work it out before we went to sleep, so that it wouldn't get worse.
Julian: Ivy and I were just the opposite. We'd always try to spit out one last bit of hatred before we went to bed, and the battle royal would begin afresh in the morning.
Eve: Don't you see, that's what's going to happen. That's what's going to happen. If I'm not there to talk this through with T.C., it's just going to get worse, then I'm just going to lose all hope of ever getting my family back.
Liz: Hold on to your dream, T.C. Have your son, but with another woman.
T.C.: Liz, where would I find one? I mean, this is a small town, school starts up in a couple of weeks, and I don't have time to date, much less fall in love.
Liz: Well, you shouldn't have to look too far, T.C., the right woman could be right in front of you.
Liz: I'm here, T.C. What about me?
Sheridan: What happened?
Luis: Paloma must've knocked the lamp off the table while she was sleeping.
Sheridan: Oh. Poor thing. She must've had a rough night.
Maria: I heard a big crash. Is -- is everything all right?
Sheridan: Yeah, everything's fine. Paloma just knocked her lamp over.
Martin: Hey, what's going on? Is everything ok?
Maria: Yes, it -- it seems so.
Luis: We all just heard a crash, so we came to check it out, and it looked like she knocked the lamp off the table while she was sleeping. Now, let's go. We don't want to wake her up.
Sheridan: Yeah. She was really upset earlier. We should let her sleep.
Luis: Oh, my god. Look at this.
Ethan: I'm your half brother, so do yourself a favor, and go easy on this one because Whitney is a good girl, and Chad is a great guy. I don't want to see this blow up in your face, you know?
Fox: It's not going to blow up in my face. I'll figure out something. I'll get over it. I'll -- I'll move on.
Ethan: You sure about that? I mean, self-denial has never really been your strongest suit.
Fox: True enough. I mean, I don't know -- who knows? Maybe I'm growing up a bit, you know? I'll bury myself in my work. I've already taken on more responsibility at Crane Industries, and at the rate I'm going, I'll be able to work 24/7, so hopefully I'll be able to forget about Whitney out of sheer exhaustion.
Ethan: Well, keep plugging away. Maybe you'll replace Alistair.
Fox: Maybe. Well, what the hell, you know? I got nothing else to live for now, do I? I can't be with the woman that I love, so a guy's got to focus on something. My something is Crane Industries. Tell you what, I'm not going to let anybody stand in my way. I'm going to let the famous Crane gene propel me straight to the top.
Ethan: Fox, no, come on. You know, you've turned into a pretty decent guy since you've come back to Harmony. I would hate for you to hit reverse, turn into another Alistair. It's easy. It's easy to get down that path -- that ugly, ruthless path, and forget -- forget about what matters most in life, you know?
Fox: No, it's not -- it's not going to happen to me. Listen, it's not going to happen. Running Crane Industries is my birthright.
Ethan: Well, it was.
Fox: What the hell does that mean?
Ethan: Well, don't forget, we found out tonight that Julian has another son.
Eve: I need to get home to T.C., and talk things through before his anger hardens, before it gets worse.
Julian: Eve? What do you mean, "gets worse"?
Eve: Liz. When I walked d out that door, I did the one thing that she most wanted me to do. Now all she has to do is work on T.C. while he's hurting, and the next thing you know, she'll be moving into my bed.
Julian: You can't be serious. Tonight?
Eve: Tonight, Julian. This instant. I have to get home and talk things through with T.C. We've always been able to talk before. I have to fight for my marriage before it's too late.
Liz: Think about it, T.C. You don't need to go out searching for a woman. No awkward first dates, no dating services on the internet. I'm right here.
T.C.: Liz, that is very kind of you to offer, and I know you're just trying to make me feel better.
Liz: T.C., I am not offering myself to you out of sympathy. Listen, you have known for a long time that I'm attracted to you, and be honest -- you're attracted to me, too. T.C., Eve hurt you, and she hurt me, too. I think we can make each other feel a lot better.
T.C.: Liz, I need to go to bed. I -- I need to get some rest, I need to try to get some sleep, and I'm just going to have to see you in the morning, ok?
Liz: Ok, T.C. Good night. Sweet dreams.
T.C.: Good night, Liz, and hey, thanks. All right?
Liz: Anytime, T.C. I'm here for you.
Liz: I want you, T.C. Russell, and I always get what I want.
Katherine: What is it, Luis?
Luis: Look what I found.
Luis: What is this?
Sheridan: Oh, god, that's the Crane Industries logo.
Luis: Why would Paloma have this?
Maria: Be calm, Luis. We don't want to wake Paloma. Let's go out. Please.
Luis: Look, do any of you know where Paloma got this?
Martin: Paloma said it was a gift from someone.
Luis: Who? When?
Katherine: I don't know, a few weeks ago. I'm not sure.
Luis: Well, this had to have come from Alistair. Ok, somehow he sent it to Paloma.
Maria: But why would Alistair Crane send this to your sister?
Luis: Because he's out to destroy every member of our family. Paloma's in danger.
Maria: Oh, you actually think he would hurt her?
Luis: Why would you say that? You don't even know Alistair, do you?
Ethan: Yep, surprise, surprise, huh? Julian and Eve Russell have a son, a son with Crane blood that entitles him to everything that the Crane name brings, which includes a claim to the Crane empire.
Fox: Surprise, surprise to you, maybe.
Ethan: Wait a minute, you knew?
Fox: I didn't know any details, but, yeah, I heard rumors that there was somebody out there, sure.
Ethan: Well, you're more of a Crane than I thought if you kept that a secret.
Fox: Well, what's the difference? I mean, think about it. Who else knows? Alistair? He's not going to say anything.
Ethan: I don't think so. I think that's even more of a reason to be concerned, Fox. I mean, it would be just like Alistair to keep a guy like that in his pocket to use as a threat to you if you got out of line. I'll tell you what, if Eve and Julian ever find this son, he could just come right out and say he wanted a piece of the family business, too, for his own. And then -- then you would have another half brother to compete with.
T.C.: Eve? [T.C. is being awakened by a kiss.]
Luis: How do you know that Alistair would try and hurt Paloma? You don't even know him!
Martin: Well, no. I'm just going by what you two told me, and from what I've heard about him. He's a ruthless man. If that's true, and he's after your family, then hell, yes, I'm worried he'll hurt Paloma.
Luis: He will. There's no doubt in my mind.
Maria: Oh, my god. He would actually go after a young girl?
Maria: I'm going to make sure that the windows are locked.
Luis: You know, I hoped Paloma would be safe down here in Mexico. I guess that was just a fantasy. Obviously, Alistair knows where Paloma is, and this necklace proves it.
Sheridan: My father's a monster. I know that now. It's unbelievable when I say it out loud, but he's tried to kill me several times.
Luis: He blew up a boat we were on down in Bermuda.
Sheridan: He even blew up his own plane to try to kill me, but instead he killed Luis' brother, Antonio.
Katherine: Yes, we saw that on the news. It was terrible.
Luis: Right before we came down here, he blew up a car that Sheridan was in. Damn him! You know, first he's killed my brother, now he's going after my sister? I am not going to let him hurt her. I swear he will not touch her.
T.C.: Eve, what the hell are you doing here? Liz.
Liz: T.C., I should be insulted that you didn't recognize my kiss, but I'm not.
T.C.: Liz, what are you doing here?
Liz: What does it look like I'm doing? I want you, T.C. I want to be with you. I want to make love to you, and admit it -- you want to be with me, too.
T.C.: No, Liz. Liz, this isn't right.
Liz: There is nothing more right than love. We aren't doing anything wrong, T.C.
T.C.: Liz, I'm still married.
Liz: Yes, but where is your wife right now?
T.C.: I don't know.
Liz: Well, I'll tell you where. The minute you dumped her, she went right back and jumped into Julian's bed.
T.C.: No. Eve would never do that.
Liz: Come on, T.C. Think about all the things that you learned about her, and she has played you for a fool since the first day you met her. And for months now, she has been sneaking around behind your back, meeting Julian in odd, secluded places, hugging and kissing him and doing who knows what. Poor Whitney. She knew all about it, and it tore her apart, and she couldn't tell you. She kept their dirty little secrets because she loves you. She didn't want to see you hurt.
T.C.: I can't believe that she hurt Whitney that way. But, Liz, two wrongs don't make a right. Now, you shouldn't be here.
Liz: I called Eve's service just a minute ago. They said she could be reached at that number.
T.C.: It's the Crane mansion.
Liz: Yes, T.C. I'm so sorry, but she's there now with Julian, in his bed, doing god knows what.
T.C.: What about Julian's wife?
Liz: Well, knowing Rebecca, she's probably taping it.
T.C.: Liz, come on.
Liz: T.C., I am sorry, but we don't know how far Eve will go. Look at all the terrible lies she's told you, all the awful things she's kept from you. You don't owe Eve anything. She has betrayed you over and over and over again. T.C., it's time you did something for you. I'm here, T.C. I want to make love to you like no woman ever has -- the way you deserve.
Julian: Eve, listen to me. Don't go. T.C.'s more than angry. I don't want you to get hurt. You know how he is when his temper's out of control.
Eve: No, no. With any luck, he's cooled down now, and Liz will probably be gone, so she won't be there to egg him on, and then we can just sit down and talk. I can explain my past to him and how it all happened, and he'll understand. I know he will. He has to.
Julian: I'll drive you.
Eve: No. No, Julian. Your presence would just make things worse than they already are. I need to do this myself, on my own.
Julian: Take any car in the garage. The keys are in a rack by the door.
Eve: Thank you, Julian. Well, I'm off to save my marriage and my family. Wish me luck.
Luis: That bastard, Alistair. There is no way that I am letting him get anywhere near my sister.
Maria: Luis, por favor, calmate. You'll wake her. I checked, and the windows are locked. Everything is secure. No one will get in to hurt Paloma tonight.
Luis: Gracias. Go to bed, ok? I'm not taking any chances. I'm going to stay up all night and stand guard outside her door.
Martin: I'll keep you company. With the two of us, there's not a chance in hell that bastard Crane will get in here tonight.
Maria: All right.
Nick: Now, where were we before we were so rudely interrupted? Oh, that's right. You're mine, sweetheart. All mine. [Talking to Paloma.]
Fox: You know, let me tell you something. It doesn't make any sense for me to compete with some mythical half brother for top-dog position.
Ethan: Well, to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
Fox: Look, I was raised a Crane, ok? It's in my blood. I've been around the family business my entire life.
Ethan: Yeah, well, this guy has the same blood that you have in his veins -- Crane blood, Crane genes. That's all Alistair cares about.
Fox: Yeah, well, you know, you're forgetting one minor, little detail. My grandpappy's a bit of a racist, so I seriously doubt he's going to hand over the entire Crane empire to some bastard grandson with an African American mother.
Ethan: Yeah. Well, don't forget the color that Alistair cares about more than any other -- green. The almighty dollar, Fox. You know, the expansion of the family business is the only thing that man cares about. It's the only thing that warms his heart. That guy will topple governments, he will sacrifice family members. Forget about morality. He'll probably even disregard his own personal prejudices to further his own aims. Look, I'm -- I'm not trying to drive you crazy. I'm sure this guy, whoever he is, he probably has no interest in the family business whatsoever. If we're lucky, he'll probably just make a real interesting addition to Rebecca's table at Thanksgiving.
Fox: I'm sure, yes. But if he does have an interest in running the family business, you can bet that Rebecca will probably just shoot him, stuff him, and serve him at the Thanksgiving table. She's not big on sharing, that one.
Ethan: No. I wouldn't put that past her. Well, lots of luck, Mr. Crane. [Ethan heads up to bed.]
Fox: You know what? Whoever you are, watch out. Because I'll be damned if I let Julian's bastard come between me and what's rightfully mine.
T.C.: Liz, I just --
Liz: No, no, no, T.C. Don't speak. Time for words is over. Let me make you forget all your troubles. Let me make love to you.
Eve: Oh, god, please give me another chance to save my marriage. T.C. is so angry. If you could just have him remember what we had together, because I do love him so.
Liz: Oh, T.C. I can't wait. I want you so much.
T.C.: I want you too, Liz.
Katherine: If the men are going to stay up all night protecting Paloma, they're going to need some coffee.
Sheridan: One by one, my father is destroying their family. Now it's Paloma. My father is absolutely relentless.
Katherine: And he tried to kill you more than once. You've been through so much, Sheridan.
Sheridan: My own father wants me dead. How could anyone wish such harm upon their own child?
Katherine: Your father is a monster from hell! Well, it's what you've said. It's what I've read. I'm just so grateful that you have such a good man to protect you.
Sheridan: I know. But what's happening to Luis and his family -- it's all my fault.
Katherine: Don't say that. That's not true.
Sheridan: Yes, it is true. Alistair hates the Lopez-Fitzgeralds. He -- he killed Antonio. He can't accept the fact that I love Luis. Their whole family is being destroyed. My father just toys with their lives. He takes pleasure in causing them pain. But you know what, though? It's not just me. My father's hatred for their family -- it goes deeper than me. It's like he's punishing them for something, like he's getting revenge on them. I can tell you this -- Luis and I, we are determined to find out why my father hates his family so much. We're not going to stop until we find out the truth.
Luis: Well, at least Paloma's safe for the night. And I'll be damned if I let Alistair hurt another person that I love.
Martin: You must be careful.
Luis: I will. Can you imagine putting a bomb in your own daughter's car? That's part of the reason we came down here, you know, to get Sheridan away from her father.
Martin: No place is safe from Alistair Crane. He will always find you, eventually.
Luis: If I didn't know better, I'd say you were speaking from personal experience.
Martin: No, of course not. Based on what you've said -- I mean, the man is obviously an unspeakable criminal. But, my god, Luis, he killed your brother Antonio, and now he's after your sister Paloma.
Luis: And he's not going to get away with it. My family is going to be safe no matter what.
Martin: And I'm here. I'll help you.
Luis: Well, I appreciate that, but I don't want you getting involved. All right, now, as far as Alistair's concerned, you're an innocent bystander. You don't deserve Alistair's wrath.
Martin's inner voice: My son, if you only knew. The danger you're in is all my fault. If anyone's going to stop Alistair, it's me. At least Paloma's safe for the night. There's no one going through that door.
Nick: Ready to take a little trip? They think sleeping beauty's all safe and sound in here. By the time they find out you're gone, it's going to be too late, and once Mr. Crane is finished with you, no one's going to see you again, ever.
NEXT ON PASSIONS:
Sheridan: It's my father's calling card. He had Paloma kidnapped.
Martin: And he's headed further into the jungle!
Luis: He's not getting away.
Liz: Where are you going?
T.C.: I'm going to find my wife.
Eve: Julian, don't go. I don't want to be alone tonight.
