Passions Transcript Wednesday 3/24/04
Charity: Miguel, my life is so meaningless without you.
Ivy: Ok, charity, I think it's time you and I had a little heart-to-heart.
Charity: I'm sorry, ivy. That's impossible because you don't have a heart.
Ivy: I saw you looking next door -- ah -- watching miguel. You're still longing for him, and it's time you got over it.
Charity: I am over it.
Ivy: No, you're not. And the way I see it, you have two choices. You can either spend the rest of your life crying er what might have been or you can take charge of your life and do something productive. So, what's it going to be, charity?
Miguel: Kay, I don't want to bring you down, but I don't think we can go to this dance.
Kay: Why? I'm sure tabitha wouldn't mind babysitting, would you, tabitha?
Tabitha: Of course not. No, maria and endora have become great pals. What dance?
Kay: Oh, it's the unders' day dance. I've always wanted to go. Hmm? Hey --
miguel: Kay, we can't even afford these tickets. I mean, I -- I can't afford a new suit. You cat t afford a new dress. We just can't afford it.
Tabitha: Oh, it's so hard for new parents to get a night out.
Kay: But it's the founders' day dance.
Miguel: I'm really sorry, kay, but we're just going to have to skip it.
Beth: Ok. What do you think? Is it -- is it romantic enough?
Mrs. Wallace: Hmm. You really think it's smart to keep luis waingng right outside that door while you're setting this trap?
Beth: I just said I needed another minute, but I could use some help. Where is precious when I need her?
Mrs. Wallace: I have no idea. I always wonder where she goes on her night off.
Beth: Ok, I don't think I want to know where she goes.
Mrs. Wallace: Just as long as she takes me with her -- roof!
[Mrs. Wallace chuckles]
Mrs. Wallace: Hmm.
Beth: Ok. All right. Everything looks perfect here. So, how do I look?
Mrs. Wallace: Like a poor man's sheridan crane only with dark hair and that outfit you borrowed from sheridan probably looks better on her.
Beth: Ok, mother, stop it.
Mrs. Wallace: Hmm.
Beth: I'm not going to let you ruin my evening with luis, ok?
Mrs. Wallace: Oh, yeah, fine, fine. I guess you want me to vamoose with little bambino here --
beth: No --
mrs. Wallace: Huh, just so you can seduce luis.
Beth: No, no. I want luis to be with me and our baby.
Mrs. Wallace: Sheridan's baby.
Beth: Shut up!
Mrs. Wallace: Oh.
Beth: You just shut your mouth, you old woman, or I'm going to put arsenic in your gin bottle!
Mrs. Wallace: You shut up! You're going to scare the baby!
Luis: Beth, what's the problem?
Luis: Yeah, I heard yelling. Is everything ok?
Antonio: I love you, sheridan. I love you so much. You're the only woman I ever want in my life.
Sheridan: I love you so much. Oh.
Hmm. Oh, luis!
Singer: I would hold the hand of the one who could lead me places and kiss the lips of the one who could sing so sweet and i would fly on the wings of the bird I knew could take me highest breathe in, breathe out you keep me alive you are the fire burning inside of me you are my passion for life
Charity: Ivy, I know you're living in the house now, but you have no right to lecture me, so why don't you just leave me alone, all right?
Ivy: No, charity, it's not all right. And I'm not going to leave you alone and I am not going to lecture you. I really do want to help you.
Charity: I don't need your help.
Ivy: Yes, you do. Believe me, I understand better than anyone else what you're going through because I know what it's like to desperately love someone and not be able to be with them.
Charity: I'm over it.
Ivy: Charity, you are never going to be able to convince me of that because I was in this same situation with your uncle. Sam was the love of my life and they kept me from him, so I do know how you feel.
Charity: Ok, ivy, how do I feel?
Ivy: Miserable, lonely, depressed. You see miguel with kay. You see them building a life together. But trust me -- you're going about this all wrong.
Charity: Am I?
Ivy: Yes, you are. You're acting like a tramp, throwing yourself on every boy on the block. Please, charity, your life -- it's spinning out of control.
Charity: My life is not out of control!
Ivy: Yes, it is! And what you're doing -- it is not going to make miguel forget kay and his obligation to her and the baby.
Charity: I don't want him to forget.
Ivy: So what do you want, charity? Because trust me, right now, you're on a fast track to being a 35-year-old waitress at a bar by the airport.
Charity: That is ridiculous.
Ivy: Is it? You're flunking out of college. You have no skills. You have no direction in your life. Where do you think you're going to end up?
Charity: I don't know, and I don't really care.
Ivy: Charity, please, don't let this breakup with miguel ruin your life. I know. I can keep that from happening.
Charity: Oh. How?
Ivy: Look, when I finally realized that I wasn't going to be with sam, I was just like you. I was angry, I was depressed, I had no direction, and I didn't care, either. And then I realized I can't just let my life go by. I had to do something, so I took charge and d decided to do something productive, and I became the chairperson for all of the crane charities.
Charity: Ok, well, you had money and the power of the crane estate. It's really easy to drown your sorrows at tiffany's and cartier.
Ivy: You know, charity, I grew up with money. It didn't really mean that much. The point is I found a direction for my life, and you have to find something, too.
Charity: Well, I'm hardly going to be the chairperson for the crane charities.
Ivy: No. No, you're not. But there has to be something. Look, if somebody said you could do anything you wanted to do, wh w would that be? If you -- if you could go anyplace you wanted to go, where would that be?
Charity's voice: I would be in miguel's arms.
Miguel: I'm really sorry, kay. I know how much you wanted to go to the dance. We just can't afford it.
Kay: It's all right.
Miguel: No, it's not all right. And it's my fault. The cranes have blackballed me. No one in town will give me a job. Now you have to go off to the cannery and work for peanuts.
Kay: Miguel, hey, it's not your fault. That crazy rebecca is punishing your whole family because she blames theresa for her daughter losing her baby.
Miguel: Yeah, well, whatever. You know, I mean, it's my fault you have to work so hard, and we still can't even afford to go to a dance.
Kay: Miguel, I told you, we're a team. You got to work while I got to stay home with maria. No, now it's your turn to stay home with her, that's all.
Tabitha: You see? She just needed to be with her mummy.
Tabitha: She misses you when you're not here, kay.
Kay: I misserer, too. I miss you. Who would've thought that a baby could wrap herself around my heart this way?
Tabitha: Hmm! I feel the same way about endora. Who'd have thought that?
Kay: Hey! Hey. Come on.
Kay: Come on. Let's go over here. Let's walk around. Will you put maria down for me? I want to spend some time alone with miguel.
Tabitha: Of course. No problem. Kay, dear, why don't you let me put maria to bed? I think she's tired.
Tabitha: Come on, baby.
Kay: Thank u,u, tabitha.
Kay: Are you tired?
Miguel: A little. Taking care of a baby is a lot of work.
Kay: Oh, tell me about it. But you're a great dad.
Miguel: Thanks. You know, to tell you the truth, I'm exhausted.
Kay: I am, too.
[Kay and miguel laugh]
Kay: Sorry. Sorry.
Miguel: I guess this is what our parents meant when they said "just wait until you have kids."
Kay: I guess. But it's still early. Do you want to watch something on tv?
Miguel: I have plans for us, kay.
Kay: You do?
Kay: No way. I've been dying to see this movie.
Miguel: I know. That's why I rented it.
Kay: Oh. This is so nice. Wait a second -- this is, like, the ultimate chick flick. Are you sure you want to sit through it?
Miguel: Yeah, I'm sure.
Kay: You wouldn't want to see something with car chases and explosions?
Miguel: Nope. I want to see this with you. I wanted to do something nice for the mother of my little girl.
Kay: Thank you.
Beth: Luis, there's really no problem.
Luis: Well, like I said, I heard you yelling, so what happened?
Beth: I'm sorry we were so loud, but sometimes mother's hearing aid -- it doesn't work and she can't hear a thing.
Luis: Ah. Well, that's too bad.
Luis: Hey, mrs.ówallace? Mrs.ówallace? Maybe you just need a new battery!
Mrs. Wallace: What?
Mrs. Wallace: I need a bakery?
Luis: I'll get her one tomorrow.
[Beth and luis chuckle]
Beth: That would be redlly sweet.
Luis: Yeah. Whoa. What's all this?
Beth: Well -- ahem -- since you're here, I thought you could join me for dinner.
Luis: Wow. That's really sweet of you, beth. You know, I don't want you to go to any trouble here.
Beth: It was no trouble, no trouble.
Beth: Well, I'm going to put little martin down for his nap, ok?
Luis: All right.
Beth: Come on, baby. Are you coming, mother?
Luis: Good night, martin.
Beth: Night-night, daddy. Oh, say "bye-bye."
[Mrs. Wallace chuckles]
Beth: Come on, mother.
Mrs. Wallace: Oh, yeah, I'm coming. Good night, sweet prince.
Luis: Good night, mrs. Wallace.
Mrs. Wallace: You are evil, missy, pure evil. Kidnapping sheridan's baby, trying to make luis think that he is yours? God's going to get you for this.
Beth: I don't care. I'm going to do whatever I have to to make sure luis is mine forer.R.
Mrs. Wallace: Oh --
luis: I know what's going on here, beth. Trying to get me to remember all the good times we shared, start a future together again. How could I forget you, sheridan? I just pray that you remember that I'm the man you want to be with and not my brother.
Antonio: What did you just say?
Sheridan: I'm so sorry.
Antonio: You called me luis?
Sheridan: I'm so sorry. I -- I didn't mean to --
antonio: No, sheridan, I know exactly what you meant. You called me by my brother's name while we're making love. You called me luis. I think we both know exactly what you meant.
Ivy: You know, charity, I am not a particularly spiritual person, but apparently you've forgotten that you almost died once and you were given this miracle, this second chance at life.
Charity: You're right, actually. I had kind of forgotten.
Ivy: Well, you should never forget that. I mean, timmy would have wanted his heart to go to someone who's doing something with her life.
Charity: Sweet timmy.
Ivy: I didn't really know him, but apparently he must have been wonderful because everybody loved him.
Charity: He was amazing.
Ivy: You know, when julian traveled with him that summer, he even managed to melt julian's cold heart. So don't waste his, charity. Think of what timmy would think of you if he saw what you'd been doing with your life these past few months.
Tabitha: Oh. Oh, my timmy. My timmy still lives on.
Charity: I don't think he'd like me very much.
Ivy: So think of something he would like. What would you like to do with your life, charity?
Charity: I don't know. Alall I ever -- all I ever thought I wanted to do was marry miguel and have a family with him. So, now --
tabitha: Well, endora and maria are safely tucked into bed. Ooh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you were watching something.
Miguel: No, that's ok, tabitha. I was just going to pause the movie and go make some popcorn.
Kay: Mmm. Thank you. You read my mind.
Miguel: Well, I know that you can't watch a movie without popcorn. I'll be right back.
Kay: Don't forget the salt.
Miguel: All right.
Tabitha: Must say, I'm impressed. You and miguel looked very cozy on this sofa together.
Kay: Oh, isn't it wonderful? I can feel us getting closer and closer. Oh, and before you know it, watching a movie won't be the only thing we're going to do on this couch.
Tabitha: Oh, please. Too much information.
Kay: Well, we're not a couple yet, but we're on our way. Tonight, watching a movie with him that he picked out especially for me and being so close to him on the couch -- it's everything I ever dreamed of.
Tabitha: I must say, you seem awfully happy for someone dead on their feet from working in that ghastly cannery all day.
Kay: Hmm. Well, I never said everything was perfect. But I have tonight with him, and nothing can take that away from me.
Kay: I'll get it. Lenox residence. This is kay. Tonight? Right now? Oh. Yeah, I -- I don't think I can -- I know, I know, but I -- oh. All right, I'll be there.
Miguel: Who was that, kay?
Kay: It was the cannery. One of the workers called in sick and they're short-handed, so I have to go back in to work.
Kay: Yes -- right now.
Sheridan: Antonio, please forgive me. I don't know why I said luis' name. I wasn't --
antonio: Sheridan --
sheridan: Even thinking about him.
Antonio: Sheridan, it's ok. It's all right. I understand.
Sheridan: You do? Because I don'T.
Antonio: You were just going through a bunch of pictures, old pictures of you and luis, and it made you remember your past. Look, I know you love me now and I know you want to spend the rest of your life with me.
Sheridan: Yes. Yes, antonio, you are the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. Thank you for being so understanding.
Antonio: Of course I understand. I love you, sheridan, and I always will, and I know that you're always going to love me. Luis is just a memory from your past.
Beth: Well, ok. I guess let's sit.
Luis: All right.
Beth: Oh, wait -- no. Music. Music first.
Beth: Luis, listen.
Luis: Hmm? Oh, yeah. That was our favorite song in high school.
Luis: Still a great tune.
Beth: What a coincidence.
Mrs. Wallace: Yeah, right -- "coincidence." She called that radio station a hundred times to request that song.
Beth: Well, you know what? We've got to dance to this. Come on.
Luis: Sure, sure. Ok, ok.
[Beth and luis laugh]
singer: You are my passion for life
charity: I have no idea what I'm going to do, ivy. Like I said, I -- I didn't get past planning to marry miguel and have babies.
Ivy: Well, what about when you were a little girl? Certainly you had some dreams then.
Charity: I don't -- no. I mean, my mom and I were always moving and -- I was never in a school club or making any friends. But then I moved to harmony and I met miguel, and all of a sudden it was like my life was all planned t and I had a purpose. I was going to marry miguel, and we were going to go to college and get jobs and -- I don't know -- have a family together. It didn't matter what we did. It was just that we were going to be -- that we would be together.
Ivy: Yeahi I had those exact same dreams with sam. And then life threw me a major curve ball, kind of the same one they've thrown you.
Charity: Yeah. I really don't know atat to do. I don't know where to -- where to turn, so --
ivy: Ok. Ok, ok. I -- I have an idea. I know exactly how we're going to find out what you're going to do with your life. I'm going to find a way to make you happy again, charity.
Charity: I don't think it's possible, ivy. I don't think that -- I don't think that I'm ever going to be happy again.
Kay: I can't believe I have to go back to work.
Tabitha: Oh, that's too bad, kay.
Kay: I know. I really wanted to watch the movie with you.
Miguel: Just call them back and tell them you can't make it.
Tabitha: Yeah, can you do that?
Kay: I don't know. Maybe I could. I mean, it's not my regular hours. It's just an extra shift. Ok, I'll call and see if I can cancel. Shoot. No, no. It's maria's hospital bills. No, I have to go back to work. I can't afford to turn down extra money. And it's good money. It's time and a half for overtime.
Miguel: I hate that you have to go back. I mean, you're so tired and -- I'm the one that should be going off to work.
Kay: No, miguel, ok, you're doing more than your share, between taking care of maria and going to school. Hey, one of these days, the cranes -- they're going to forget all about the grudge that they have against you and your family and you'll be able to go back to work.
Tabitha: She's right, of course. After all, you had nothing to do with gwen losing her baby. That was your sister's fault.
Miguel: Says rebecca.
Kay: Hey, I don't mind working, ok? I'll see you later.
Miguel: That's maria. I'll go see what she needs.
Kay: Bye. Gosh, it's not fair. All I wanted was one night with him.
Tabitha: Oh. Well, look at the bright side. At least he'll be here when you get back.
Tabitha: Just stay the course, kay. One day, miguel will be yours forever.
Kay: I'm trying to believe it, tabitha. Got to go back to work.
Kay: Being a grownup sucks.
Sheridan's voice: Why are you always on myinind, luis? Why?
Mrs. Wallace: Oh, please, angels, you can't let this happen. You can't let beth suck luis into her spider web again. Come on! God, don't let this happen!
Beth: Oh, I wish they would play that song again, but --
[New song plays]
Beth: Well, this song is good to dance to, too, right?
Luis: Yeah, sure. What the hell.
[Beth and luis chuckle]
Sheridan: I love you so much.
Beth: What -- what -- why did you stop?
Luis: Oh, I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't even say anything. It's just that I was thinking of sheridan.
Luis: No, beth, I'm sorry. It's just that sheridan and I danced to that song before, and it just -- well, it reminded me of the memories we shared together.
[Beth turns music off]
Be:: When are you going to forget about sheridan? Look at this beautiful dinner that I made for you. And this romantic setting -- doesn't it mean anything to you, luis? What do I have to do to make you forget about her? you with a southpaw swing. Great champion he is. Who could have imagined
charity: I mean it, ivy. I don't think I'm going to be happy again.
Ivy: All right, ok. Then we just won't aim for happiness right now. We'll just try to find something to focus your energy, to keep your mind off what you think you've lost.
Charity: Ok, like what?
Ivy: I don't know. Ok, there must be something. Let's see, all right. Oh, I know. Ok. Fitness. What about massage therapy or dance?
Charity: I've never thought about any of those things.
Ivy: Ok, how about math? Are you good with finances? Do you like finances? What about customer service or dealing with people?
Charity: I'm not particularly good with strangers.
Ivy: No, you're not, are you? You're shy. Ok. What's your major in college this year?
Charity: Undeclared. I don't have a major.
Ivy: Aha. That's it -- your computer.
Ivy: The key to the rest of your life -- it's your computer.
Luis: Beth --
beth: No, luis --
luis: Beth --
beth: I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry, ok? I just -- I get really frustrated, you know, because I go to this -- this huge effort, and then you barely notice.
Luis: Beth, I'm the one who's rrrry, ok? Now, I understand that you're frustrated, and, hey, come on. I completely appreciate it, ok? It's just that something -- it kept reminding me of sheridan, and it wasn't just that song, ok? Look, the truth is I thought I smelled her perfume on your dress.
Beth: Yeah, well, that's because she let me wear this dress tonight. It -- it's hers.
Luis: Ah. Oh, my god. I thought it looked familiar.
Beth: Yeah. She just wanted to help me look good for you tonight.
Luis: I see. Look, beth, you know, I'm sorry to spoil your evening, but I can't stay.
Beth: No, please don't go.
Luis: No, I'm sorry. It's just -- you know what? The timing is totally wrong, all right? I need to go.
Beth: Ok. Because I certainly don't want to force you into anything, ok? Maybe next time you'll stay for dinner.
Luis: Yeah. Hey, hey, maybe next time, ok?
Luis: All right. Good night.
Beth: Good night.
Beth: Damn you, sheridan!
Mrs. Wallace: Brava, brava, brava, bethie. You handled that one really well. He couldn't wait to get out of here!
Beth: You shut up or you're next, old woman. You're next!
charity: This is the key to the rest of my life, ivy?
Ivy: Look at all these bookmarks.
Charity: Chanel, dior, yves saint laurent.
Ivy: That's it.
Charity: What's it? I was just looking them up because I was making a costume for a production --
ivy: No. All of these bookmarks have something in common -- fashion. That's it. That's what you're passionate about. Look. You have always loved experimenting around with your clothes.
Charity: Well, sure, ivy, but, I mean, I wouldn't say I'm passionate about it. I just enjoy it.
Ivy: That's perfect. Ththat's why you've got to do it. Look, look -- oh, it's great. You -- you could go to a design school. You could study fashion. You could become a designer, a buyer or seller, whatever you want to be.
Charity: A designer?
Ivy: Yes. Charity, your passion was fashion and you didn't even know it. I think we've found your direction. And, you know, it could lead you to the runways of paris.
Dort: Why the long face, dutchess? We're making time and a half on this shift.
Kay: I know, but I was all settled in watching a movie with miguel.
Dort: Oh. You trying to tell me you don't need the money?
Kay: Of course I need it, but I also need some time alone with my man.
Dort: Oh, my --
kay: What's so funny? Why are you laughing?
Dort: Hey, get used to it, kid. The only man you're going to be spending your nights with for the rest of your life is charlie the tuna.
Beth: I am so sick of listening to you put me down and hope that I'm going to fail. I'm going to wring your neck.
Mrs. Wallace: No, no, no. If you kill me, you're going to be put into jail for the rest of your life and you'll never get luis!
Beth: They'll never know that it was me.
Mrs. Wallace: Oh, yes, they will! And they'lfifind my body, and they'll find your prints and D.N.A. And stuff, and then they will know! They will know it was you!
Beth: This is all sheridan's fault. Because she probably knew that this dress was drenched in her perfume and she knew that it would make luis think about her.
Mrs. Wallace: Well, if it is, it serves you right.
Beth: Oh, don't push your luck, edna.
Mrs. Wallace: Oh, bethie. Bethie, do yourself a favor here. You got to face the facts. Luis doesn't want you. Look at everything you have done, honey, to get him back, and none of it -- none of it, bethie, has worked.
Mrs. Wallace: Come on. You got to get a clue here. You're never going to have luis. You are never going to have him -- never.
[Luis and sheridan laugh]
Luis: There. Now the whole world will know about our lo.. think I got an idea that will make you feel better.
Luis: Yeah. And it'll just be a chance for the two of us to spend some time together.
Sheridan: Hmm. I'm intrigued.
Luis: Oh. I think you'll be a hell of a lot more than that. It wasn't ever supposed to turn out like this. Now sheridan and antonio are together, right now, as husband and wife. Damn it. Sheridan belongs with me.
Ivy: This -- this is wonderful.
Oh. I'm going to start looking into the very best schools of design right away, and, you know, maybe we can get a scholarship from the crane foundation, so don't worry about money.
Charity: Ivy -- what if you give me a scholarship and I'm not any good?
Ivy: Well, you're never going to know unless you try, are you, charity? So you have to try because if you don't, believe me, you're going to regret it for the rest of your life.
Charity: I can't have any more regrets.
Kay: You don't know what you're talking about, ok? This is not what the rest of my life is going to be like.
Dort: Oh, yeah? Reality check, kay bennett. This is your life -- missing out on your family, too tired to make love to your man, too tired to play with your kids.
Woman: Yeah, all these extra hours are going to help you out with your bills.
Second woman: Just barely.
First woman: But they're also going to take you away from your man and your kids, and that's just the way it is.
Dort: U'u're watching your whole life go down the toilet, you don't even know it.
Dort: Yeah! It happened to me when I was your age. I was like you, young and pretty, and I had --
Dort: Hey! That's right, that's right. I was a looker. Look what happened to me. Same thing's going to happen to you, kid, so get used to it.
Kay: No. It'll never happen to me.
Dort: Ok, don't believe me, but I'm telling you the truth, which is more than anyone did for me when I was in your place. So look around, dutchess, because your life is over forever.
Mrs. Wallace: Think about it, bethie, huh? Look at everything that you did to try and keep luis. You kidnapped sheridan. You kept her down in that basement. You stole her baby. You pretended you were pregnant. You made luis think that it was your baby, and then you tried to kill sheridan, but she came back! And even with sheridan trying to help you tonight, you still could not hold on to luis! Honey, you couldn't do it! He rejected you!
Beth: Ok, shut up. Mother, I'll figure out a way to get luis. I swear I will. And some way, someday, somehow, sooner or later, luis is going to come back to me.
Luis: Will you ever come back to me, sheridan? Will we ever be happy together again? Or are we over forever?
Antonio: Hey, there.
Antonio: Hot chocolate's ready. Want to go back to the bedroom, finish what we started?
Antonio: All right.
Sheridan: I'll be right there.
Antonio: Ok, I'll be waiting.
Sheridan: I'm so sorry, luis.
