Passions Transcript Friday 6/28/02
julian: Things are spinning out of control!
timmy: How does big dog do that?
Crowd: Big dog! Big dog! Big dog! Big dog! Big dog!
Timmy: Oh, that's going to leave a mark.
Brian: So, did you like the car?
Sheridan: You obviously love it, so of course i like it. I just hope she keeps you safe in the race.
Brian: Don't worry. And I appreciate the fact that you came to the states to watch me race. It means a lot.
Sheridan: I want to make make sure that you'll be all right.
Brian: I'll be fine. Come on, you saw the car. It's a powerhouse. It's made out of reinforced steel. It'll be safe. And even if I do crash, I'm going to be completely fine --
sheridan: No, no, don't even think about crashing. You better be right about this car.
Stan: So, how long will it take for the engine to start sparking?
Nick: It's hard to tell exactly, stan. But once brian reaches his full cruising speed, things will definitely start to heat up. And it won't be long before the whole thing goes boom!
Beth: Thanks for walking me home.
Luis: Yeah, well, thanks for being so supportive.
Beth: I feel so horrible about theresa. Do you want to come in for some coffee or something?
Luis: No, actually, I'm going to -- I'm going to go back down to the prison. I have to try at least one more time to get through to theresa, you know?
Beth: You mean, to try and get her to tell you who she's covering for?
Luis: Yeah. I know she didn't kill anyone. I can't stand to see her sitting on death row for something she didn't do.
Beth: I know. I wish there was something i could do.
Luis: Yeah. You've been wonderful. Thank you. Good night.
Beth: Good night. I'll always be here for you, luis. Coming, mother.
Ethan: Alistair. Oh, thank God you're here. Look, theresa's going to be executed. You have to do something.
Alistair: That's why i came to see the governor. I'm here to personally ensure that all the power and influence of the crane empire is brought to bear regarding theresa's death sentence.
Ethan: Thank God. Grandfather, you have to convince the governor to grant theresa clemency. Or at least delay the execution and give me time to file an appeal. Sir, i am sure you'll agree that this order was handed down incredibly fast. There was hardly a day between the trial and the sentencing.
Governor: Mr. Crane, tomorrow is so soon. There are so many documents that need to be drawn up. I'd need an order of execution to sign.
Alistair: I just happen to have one right here.
Governor: But --
alistair: Yours will be in a sling if you don't sign this now.
Governor: Yes, mr. Crane, whatever you want.
Alistair: Excellent. Come tomorrow, theresa crane will be sent to the death chamber for killing my son. And there's not a bloody thing anyone can do to stop it.
Ethan: I'm so relieved you're here, grandfather. I was really afraid that you wouldn't speak up in time to save theresa.
Theresa: Thank you for coming, but a last confession isn't really necessary.
Father lonigan: Why do you say that, theresa?
Theresa: Because I'm not going to die. The cranes will never allow one of their own to be executed.
Father lonigan: Forgive me, but they haven't been very helpful so far.
Theresa: But all of that is going to change. Besides, ethan loves me. Father, he helped deliver my baby, and he loves my baby, too. He will not let me die. I know he won'T.
Singer: I would hold the hand of the one who could lead me places and kiss the lips of the one who could sing so sweet and i would fly on the wings of the bird i knew could take me highest breathe in, breathe out you keep me alive you are the fire burning inside of me you are my passion for life
father lonigan: I have come to persuade you to recant your confession. Your love for ethan is admirable, but it's gone too far. You told me yourself ethan killed julian crane, not you.
Theresa: Yes, but he did it for , father. And I cannot let him be punished for something he did out of love for me.
Father lonigan: And as i said, it's admirable. But what are ethan's feelings for you now?
Theresa: I told you, father, he loves me.
Father lonigan: If he truly loved you, would he be letting you take the blame for something he did?
Theresa: No, father. But that's my point. That's why i know he will not let me be executed. He's doing everything he can to save me. He said he would appeal my case all the way to the supreme court if he had to.
Father lonigan: I am pleading with you to tell the truth -- now, tonight, before it is too late.
Theresa: Please -- please, father, don't worry. It will be all right. I know it.
Father lonigan: I will pray for you, theresa. And for ethan.
Luis: Father lonigan, why are you praying for ethan?
Ethan: What's wrong? Please, tell the governor that theresa deserves leniency. Look, she didn't kill julian. She's covering for someone.
Ethan: I don't know, she won't tell me. But I know she didn't kill julian. Please, grandfather, help me, all right? Tell the governor that this was a horrible mistake.
Alistair: First of all, no offense, but I'm not your grandfather.
Ethan: Yes, i know that. I've called you "grandfather" my whole life. I'll have to break myself of the habit.
Alistair: Yes, you will.
Ethan: Then i'll call you "alistair," unless you prefer "mr. Crane."
Alistair: I won't stand on ceremony. "Alistair" will be fine.
Ethan: All right. Now, like I said, the reason i'm here is to get the governor to stay theresa's execution. Now, you have great influence on all levels of business and government, alistair. I'm sure a word from you would put a stop to this madness.
Governor: Ethan's right, alistair. What do you have to say about all this?
Timmy: Get up, julian. Please, get up!
Big dog: Is he dead yet?
Timmy: No, the mad C.E.O. Is just fine.
Julian: We did not wrestle like this at harvard.
Timmy: That was college. This is the pros. Now, get up, julian, and get onto that mat. Timmy and julian need that money --
julian: Yes, yes, to find the demon's beak to save charity from the zombie charity.
timmy: It's the demon's horn, the demon's horn.
Julian: Well, can't we just forget about it? Because I'm through.
julian: Oh, no. Help! Murder! Police! Animal control! Oh, no! Oh, have mercy. Please, have mercy! Timmy! Timmy, help me!
beth: Mother, I'm home.
Beth's mother: It's about time, too.
Beth: It'll be much better for luis if he doesn't have to look at that painful reminder of sheridan all the time.
Brian: Hey, how about a nightcap?
Sheridan: Yeah, that would be fabulous. Thank you.
[Knock on door]
maid: Shall I turn down your bed?
Sheridan: Oh, no, that's fine. Thank you.
Maid: Here's the evening's paper, compliments of the hotel.
Brian: Cheers. To a wonderful trip.
Sheridan: I'll drink to that.
Brian: Mmm. You know, I cannot wait for you to meet my family. Especially my little sister, theresa. She's such a carefree romantic.
Sheridan: Really? Tell me about her -- oh! Oh, darn it. I'm sorry, i ruined the paper.
Brian: Hey, it's just the paper.
Sheridan: I love you.
Luis: Father lonigan? Why are you praying for ethan?
Theresa: He's praying that ethan will find a way to get me out of here. Aren't you, father?
Father lonigan: Yes. I'm praying that ethan will do whatever he can to release theresa from this place.
Luis: We're all praying that theresa's released.
Father lonigan: I'll leave you to speak to your sister. I'll come back tomorrow, theresa.
Theresa: Thank you, father.
Guard: Open cell four.
Father lonigan: Luis, try to talk some sense into your sister before it's too late.
Luis: I brought something I'm hoping will do the trick. Thank you.
Guard: You can go on in since you're family.
Luis: Thank you.
Guard: Close cell four.
Theresa: I'm glad you're here. Did you find anything new about my case?
Luis: No. No. I'm not going to find out anything this time of the night.
Luis: But I did bring something I want to show you. Here.
Theresa: Our family album. I haven't seen this for years. Look, mama's pregnant with paloma.
Luis: Yeah. Look, there's little miguel.
Theresa: And little me.
Luis: Antonio and I are here somewhere. There we are, bringing out the pinata.
Theresa: This was before papa disappeared.
Luis: Yeah. We were a great family, weren't we?
Theresa: We were so close. I miss our family.
Luis: Yeah. We should all be together again. All of us. Hey, did i tell you antonio might be coming home?
Theresa: I still can't believe that.
Luis: I hope he does. Maybe he can get you to tell the truth.
Theresa: Luis --
luis: Theresa, after papa disappeared, we bonded closer than any family ever could. Then antonio left. Please, don't leave us, too.
Theresa: I won'T. I'm not going to leave any of you.
Luis: You won't? Theresa, do you have any idea where you are? You're sitting on death row. You're not going to be walking out of here, not unless you do something, and i mean fast.
Theresa: But there's nothing that i can do. But ethan -- he is going to help me --
luis: No, listen to me! Ethan has done everything that he can do. He can't help you watch your baby grow old. Isn't that what you want? Don't you want to be a mother to your baby boy?
Theresa: Of course that's what i want, luis!
Luis: All you have to do is tell me who killed julian. Just tell me who you're covering for.
Ethan: Alistair, why aren't you saying anything? I mean, surely you don't believe theresa killed julian.
Alistair: Well, someone sure as hell did.
Ethan: Yes, but it wasn't theresa. And I'm really starting to wonder what you're thinking. Why won't you tell the governor to grant theresa clemency?
julian: Oh, thank you, timmy. You're indeed a man of great courage to have risked your life to save me from that vicious brute.
Timmy: Julian saved timmy from that maniacal tin man and that psycho scarecrow. It was the least timmy could do.
Julian: Yes, you're quite right. But nevertheless, I'm grateful.
Referee: This isn't supposed to be a tag team match, but if that's the way you want it, fine by me. Where's big dog's partner?
referee: You can't both be in the ring at once. One of you has to leave.
Julian: Oh, well, then why don't we both get out of here.
Timmy: Sounds like a great idea.
man: Get them!
Theresa: Luis, will you trust me? Trust that i know that i will not die in here.
Luis: Theresa --
theresa: Look, let's talk about something else. Here -- here's you and sheridan. Look. Look how beautiful she was.
Luis: Yeah. I know she was beautiful. But she is gone now.
Theresa: How are things with you and beth?
Luis: I -- I'm thinking about asking her to marry me.
Theresa: Oh, luis, that's wonderful.
Luis: Well, it won't be if you're not alive to come to the wedding.
Theresa: I will be. I will be, luis.
Luis: No, you won'T. Theresa, you won't, not if you don't tell me the truth.
Luis: Theresa, please, just tell me who you're protecting.
Theresa: God, ethan --
luis: Ethan? Ethan is letting you take the fall for his crime? I'll kill him!
Theresa: No! No, no, ethan didn't do it, luis. No! No, no, no. I was just saying that he's going to get me out of here, that he won't let me die. So you have nothing to worry about, luis. My baby will not grow up an orphan. I will definitely be there for him, luis. Ethan promised me.
Governor: Alistair and i were discussing theresa when you arrived, ethan.
Ethan: Well, good. Then you know she shouldn't be punished for this crime.
Governor: Unfortunately, I know nothing of the kind. All of the evidence points toward her guilt, and she made a full confession. And from what I read, she was adamant in insisting she killed julian crane.
Ethan: But she didn't.
Governor: Ethan, you're speaking from your heart. And while I mpathize with you for your loss, theresa was convicted in a court of law of first-degree murder and she must pay for her crime.
Ethan: But I didn't have time to file an appeal, all right? All I'm asking for is a reprieve, all right? To find out what really happened.
Governor: I'm sorry, but it's too late. I've already signed the death warrant.
Ethan: You what?
Governor: This is the signed warrant.
Ethan: No. You can'T. I mean, the death penalty is hardly used in this state. And not without a long, exhausting appeal process. Alistair, look, you have to say something. You can't let this happen. Theresa is innocent. You can stop this. You have to stop this. Oh, my God. You don't want to save theresa, you want her to die. W long until menopause?
Singer: You are my passion for life
beth's mother: Would you hurry up with the food? Because I'm starving.
Beth: I'm coming, mother.
Beth's mother: Where have you been all night?
Beth: I was with luis.
Beth's mother: Luis? Well, I don't get that. He's such a handsome guy. He could have any woman that he wants. What's he doing with you?
Beth: He happens to like me, mother.
Beth's mother: Well, the lord only knows why, little missy. I mean, you're not exactly in his league, are you? Especially after that drop-dead gorgeous sheridan crane that he was running around with last year.
Beth: You're dead, sheridan. You hear me? You are never coming back -- not ever.
Brian: I love you.
Sheridan: I love you, too. You know, I can't wait to go back to your hometown with you and meet your family. They all sound so wonderful.
Brian: They are wonderful. And I know they're going to love you. I'm going to win this race and take that money and pay nick off, then I'm going to take you back to harmony so you can meet my family.
Sheridan: Harmony. You know, even the name is pretty.
Brian: Yeah, it is, isn't it?
Sheridan: You know, when we were there, it just seemed like such a sweet, homey place.
Brian: It is. It's a special place. I think I'm going to go over and check out that car again. You want to go with me?
Sheridan: Of course. But later.
Luis: Do you realize how crazy you sound? "Ethan promised me"?
Theresa: Ethan did promise me, luis. And I believe him.
Luis: Theresa, you have got to get your head out of the clouds and get your feet on the ground. Now, i appreciate the way that ethan is going to bat for you, but you don't know if he's going to be successful or not. Theresa, you've been convicted of first-degree murder. You have been sentenced to die by lethal injection. Don't you realize how serious this is?
Theresa: Of course I know how serious this is, luis. But you don't know how much ethan loves me. No matter how many lies I told, no matter how many bad things that i did to him -- including sleeping with the man he grew up believing was his father -- ethan still loves me, now more than ever, and he will not let me die.
Ethan: Why are you doing this?
Alistair: I have my reasons.
Ethan: Tell me what they are.
Alistair: Sorry, ethan, I don't owe you any explanation.
Ethan: Then i don't have to stand for this. WΡηΡΡΡ >ρ ?=I=i
Ethan: I won't let you sign theresa's life away.
Alistair: A very noble display, but a complete waste of energy. The governor can have another warrant drawn up and signed within moments. If you rip that one up, he'll just sign another one.
Governor: Alistair's right, ethan. This is pointless.
Ethan: I -- i can't believe this. I knew the cranes were evil when i thought I was one of them. I mean, the way you treated sheridan? She was your daughter. And luis -- he still blames you and julian for his father's disappearance. But why do you choose to be so vengeful on the next generation?
Alistair: I have no time for this nonsense. If you really love theresa as much as you say, I suggest you get over to the prison and spend her remaining hours on earth with her.
Ethan: Her remaining hours? What are you talking about?
Alistair: I suppose you didn't notice the execution date before you ripped up the death warrant. It's set for tomorrow.
Ethan: Tomorrow? No, this -- this can't be happening. This is a nightmare.
Governor: I'm afraid it is, ethan. It's happening tomorrow.
Alistair: And the sooner the better.
Governor: Don't make me call secuty.
Alistair: Why should i expect any less from a bennett? That's exactly how sam would have responded -- with his fists. True cranes don't waste their time getting mad. They just get even.
Governor: Alistair, are you sure you want to go through with this? Ethan is right, you know. No one's ever been executed so quickly before, and theresa's never been in trouble with the law.
Alistair: Theresa lopez fitzgerald crane must die -- tomorrow.
Nick: That ought to do it, stan.
Stan: Yeah, it should work.
Nick: Can't wait to see the big bang. And poor little diana's going to be crushed. She won't know where to turn or what to do.
Stan: You'll be there to help her, right?
Nick: That's right, stan. I'll be there to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. I'll be her knight in shining armor. I'll sweep her off her feet and marry her. And then i'll make the grand discovery that she's not diana at all, that she's none other than the incredibly wealthy sheridan crane.
Stan: Well, by that time, you'll be rolling in the dough.
Nick: That's right. Her dough.
nick: Come on.
Brian: There she is -- the other woman in my life. How did I get so incredibly lucky to have two beautiful women in my life like you guys, huh? I'm going to check out that engine.
Julian: Oh, God.
Timmy: Timmy thinks he and julian lost them.
Julian: That's a good thing because julian can't run another step. He needs to rest his weary bones. There's a shed over there. Maybe timmy and julian can't rest their bones there.
Julian: This is a pigsty.
Timmy: At least it's indoors, away from the wolves and the bears.
Julian: You're right. It looks absolutely inviting. But it's locked.
Timmy: Maybe there's a key at that house on the hill.
Julian: What? Are you talking about that ramshackle mess up there?
julian: It's worth a shot. Let's go.
Julian: Just when you think it can't get any more bizarre.
Boy: Who is it?
Timmy: Two weary travelers.
Julian: Good evening -- uh -- madam.
Boy: I ain't no madam.
Julian: I'm so sorry. I didn't realize there were people like you living in new england.
Boy: You mean, like poor, white trash? Oh, yeah. We live everywhere nowadays. Now, tell me, what do you want? Before i blow your heads off. So, what do you want?
Luis: Theresa, stop kidding yourself. Just because ethan loves you, that doesn't mean that he's going to be able to save you.
Theresa: He will, luis. You'll see. Please, don't worry about me.
Luis: I can't help but worry about you. You're nuts! I can't do this anymore. I've got to get out of here. Guard! I'll see you tomorrow.
Theresa: Wait, luis, wait -- don't worry about me, please. I'm going to be ok.
Theresa: I will be all right. I'm getting out of here. I am. Little ethan, let me see. Peekaboo! Where's mommy? Here she is. Yes. Yeah, you like that one, huh? Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Come here. Oh, baby. Oh, you're the beautiful boy in the whole world. Yes. Yes, you are. Yes, you are.
Ethan: Honey, i'm home.
Theresa: Look, daddy's here. Hi, baby. Yes.
Theresa: We've missed you.
Ethan: I missed you, too. And you -- you get bigger every time i see you. Daddy loves you so much.
Theresa: As if you were his own flesh and blood. Yeah.
Ethan: Absolutely. I'm the luckiest man in the world. You know that?
Theresa: I'm the luckiest woman in the world.
Guard: You have another visitor. You're the busiest death row inmate i've ever seen.
Theresa: Ethan. What's wrong? Why do you look so terrible?
Boy: So, what do you want?
Timmy: Timmy and julian need a place to sleep.
Julian: Yes. We were wondering if we might use that shed down the hill.
Boy: You got any money?
Timmy: Well, actually, timmy --
julian: Excuse me. No, we don't have any money. And even if we did have some money, we certainly wouldn't spend it on a pigsty like that. So good night. My boy --
man: Hold it there, fellow. You sure are pretty.
Beth's mother: The cheese is hard as a rock. The tea is cold. I ask for hot tea --
hot tea -- and you give me this junk I can't even drink.
Beth: Mother, the last time you said the tea was hot and it burned your mouth, so I put an ice cube in it. W, just drink it already! I don't know how much longer i can take this.
[Knock on door]
beth: Mother, I'm going to be out on the porch for a while.
Beth: Luis, hi.
Luis: Yeah. I know it's late, but -- do you mind?
Beth: Are you kidding? You know i love being with you.
Beth: So, how's theresa doing?
Luis: Yeah, well, not good. She thinks that the cranes are going to help her, but if they were going to do that, they would have already done it.
Beth: So you don't think there's any hope that theresa might say who she's protecting?
Luis: I'm running out of hope. You know, I've tried everything i can think of. Everyone else has tried everything. I don't know. Maybe if antonio were here, he could get through to her. But, of course, he's nowhere to be found.
Beth: I'm so sorry. I wish there was something i could do.
Luis: I just need to hold you. I need you so much right now.
Beth: Listen, I'm not going anywhere, ok? I'm going to be here for as long as you need me.
Beth's mother: Well, I bet luis would just love to see this.
Brian: This car is so sweet. It's got a 350-cubic inch v-8 engine in it. It's got a full-blown exhaust, oversized cams.
Brian: Wait a minute. What's this?
Theresa: Ethan, please. What is it? Why do you look this way?
Ethan: I went to the governor to plead on your behalf.
Theresa: You did? I knew you'd do something. I knew that you wouldn't desert me.
Ethan: I'm sorry, theresa.
Ethan: The governor turned me down. He signed the warrant for your execution.
Theresa: He signed it? Ok. Well, when does it happen? I mean, do we have time to appeal?
Ethan: No, we don't have time. The execution's set for tomorrow.
Bertha: Uh-oh, mrs. Crane. Looks like they're getting the spa ready for you, and I don't think that's a shot of b-12 they're going to give you.
Ethan: Theresa -- theresa --
