[Téa praying in Spanish]
Dani: Oh. Isn't that the prayer to St. Jude? The patron saint of hopeless cases?
Starr: How do I look?
Blair: Look at you. You look gorgeous! You have a hot date with James?
Starr: Mmm, sort of. I guess you can say we're celebrating.
Blair: Really? What are you celebrating?
Starr: That his ex-girlfriend is where she belongs. On a bus back to Ohio.
[Smoke alarm beeping]
James: What's going on here? Deanna, is there a fire?
Deanna: I'm really sorry. I was heating up those pot pies from the freezer, and I guess I left the oven go too high.
James: Here. Right here. Ooh. Ooh ooh. Hot, hot! Here! Here. All right, just leave that open until the smoke clears out.
Deanna: So much for dinner.
[Smoke alarm stops beeping]
Deanna: Maybe we can just order some Chinese or something.
James: Deanna, I can't have dinner with you. I have plans with Starr.
Deanna: But we haven't finished talking.
James: What's left to talk about?
Deanna: Now that you know your father forced me to break up with you, doesn't that change things for us?
Starr: You know, you look pretty hot yourself.
Blair: Well, thank you, sweetheart.
Starr: You said that this date was all about getting to know Tomás better.
Starr: Right? Well, I'm sure with the way you look, he will tell you everything that you want to know and then some.
Blair: Well, that is the plan.
Starr: Ok. You have a great time tonight, and good luck.
Blair: Ok, have fun!
Blair: Fun, fun!
Starr: Love ya!
Blair: All right, Tomás Delgado. It's time to find out if you really shot Todd.
Dani: You think Dad's a hopeless case?
Téa : No, no. Just willing to try anything. The doctors say the longer it takes--hey, it can't hurt, right? How you holding up? Hmm?
Dani: I'm fine, I guess. I don't know.
Téa : You want some time alone with your dad?
Téa : Ok.
Téa : Yeah?
Dani: I just want you to know, it wasn't my idea... to turn that syringe that we found here over to the police.
Téa : What syringe?
Nate: Hey, Shaun. Is Dani around?
Shaun: She just went in to be with her mom.
Nate: Oh, thanks.
Shaun: She asked not to be disturbed.
Nate: You mean she doesn't want me to disturb her. Not exactly her favorite person right now.
Shaun: Yeah, I kind of saw that coming. You argued over Uncle Tomás, didn't you?
Tomás: May I come in?
Tomás: Didn't mean to startle you.
Blair: You didn't.
Tomás: Sign on the door says the club is closed for a private party tonight.
Blair: That's right. You're my private party.
Rex: Go on.
Gigi: Are you sure we're doing the right thing?
Rex: Definitely...more or less.
Gigi: Maybe we shouldn't.
Rex: No. We need to hear what Shane said to Dr. Buhari in case he tries to hurt himself again.
Gigi: You're right. We do. We do.
[Knock on door]
Gigi: It's off.
Rex: Hey, what's up?
Natalie: Am I interrupting?
Marty: Who's gonna tell? We're the only two people in the whole world who know the truth. Get out of here. And remember, not one word to John McBain.
John: What don't you want Dr. Buhari to tell me?
Rex: Interrupting? No.
Natalie: Shh. Liam's asleep.
Rex: Oh. Sorry. We were just...
Natalie: Are you sure? 'Cause you both seem kind--
Rex: So what are you and the bambino doing here?
Natalie: Actually need to see if maybe you guys could watch Liam for just a little while.
Rex: Quality time with the nephew? I'm all over that.
Natalie: Really? That's great. Thank you so much. I just got called in to work. I have to process this syringe. Doesn't matter. Brody has to work and baby nurse is off today and Mom had to go to the doctor after Ryder's custody hearing.
Gigi: Is she ok? It's not her heart, is it?
Natalie: No, she's fine. She's not feeling well.
Gigi: Was it something that happened at the hearing?
Natalie: She didn't get the baby.
Gigi: So Ford and Tess got him?
Natalie: No, actually, Joey and Aubrey stepped up at this 11th hour save. I'm sorry. I know that you're friends with Kelly, but I did have to rub it in her face.
Rex: Natalie, this is between you and Kelly, although you could take the high road.
Natalie: Right. Or I could just keep sticking it to her until she stops seeing John.
Rex: Sorry, sis. I know it's gonna take you a while to get over John.
John: Evening, Dr. Buhari. What brings you out here? What's going on?
Dr. Buhari: Do the right thing, Marty. Tell Lieutenant McBain the truth.
Marty: You know, you're right. It's only fair that you know what's going on. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do this, but...it's about my last therapy session with the good doctor here.
John: What about it?
Blair: I closed the place down so we could have a night to ourselves.
Tomás: So there's no one else here? Not a cook or a busboy?
Blair: You surprised?
Tomás: I just thought you'd pick somewhere more public, with lots of people around to protect you.
Blair: Protect me? From what?
Téa : What are you talking about? What syringe?
Dani: I'm sorry. I thought you would have heard about it by now.
Téa : Tell me.
Dani: It's nothing. Nate and I, we came to see Dad. Uncle Tomás was here. When he left, we found this syringe on the floor.
Téa : Did you ask a nurse about it?
Dani: Yeah, we told the nurse. She said that they didn't use that kind of syringe here. So we told Shaun about it. He got worried that Dad might have been injected with something.
Téa : What? Why am I hearing about this now?
Dani: He's fine, Mom. You know what I mean. The doctors checked him out. Everything's fine, ok. John McBain is on this.
Téa : Wait, wait. How did someone get in here? How did they get past Shaun?
Dani: Because Nate thinks it was someone who was allowed in to see Dad.
Téa : Who?
Dani: Uncle Tomás.
Nate: John McBain's having the needle tested.
Shaun: That's good.
Nate: Yeah, except what if I got her uncle in trouble? She's never gonna forgive me.
Shaun: If you got her uncle in trouble, that means your gut was right and so was mine. That means Tomás Delgado is up to no good.
James: I can't talk about this right now. I have to get dressed. I'm going out with Starr.
Deanna: But it's really important to me that you understand.
James: I do. You were very desperate to find your mom. But what I don't understand is why you couldn't just tell me what was going on instead of breaking up with me.
Deanna: But I told you why. Your father would have backed out of helping me find my mom.
James: Ok, I have got to go get ready to meet Starr.
Deanna: James, I never meant to hurt you, ok? I just wanted to know who my mother is so I can know who I am. Can you forgive me?
Starr: Excuse me.
James: Starr. Hey. This is not what it looks like.
Starr: What is that smell?
Deanna: I burned dinner.
Starr: I'm sorry. I feel like I'm in a "Twilight Zone" here. I could have sworn that we had a dinner date tonight.
James: We do have a date. I just need to go finish getting dressed.
Starr: The weird thing is, is the last time I left, I said good-bye to Deanna, and you were supposed to drive her to the bus station. Why is she here now?
Blair: Why would I need protection from you?
Tomás: I don't want to do this.
Blair: Do what?
Tomás: I don't want to play games and waste time tonight.
Blair: You think I'm playing a game?
Tomás: You tell me. Earlier, you suspected me of trying to kill Todd. I don't think that's changed. When my friend Claude asked you outright if you thought I was guilty, you never answered. I told you I had nothing to do with Todd's shooting. Still, it's obvious that you're not convinced.
Blair: You're really putting it out there, aren't you?
Tomás: I told you, I don't want to waste time.
Blair: Your friend Claude was also worried that I might hurt you. Are you worried about that, too?
Blair: Glad to hear it.
Tomás: But I do think you agreed to this date tonight to find out if I shot Todd.
Téa : Nate thinks the syringe belongs to Tomás? Why?
Dani: Because he's an idiot. We walked in, and Uncle Tomás was standing over Dad.
Téa : Ok.
Dani: Nate thinks that's when Uncle Tomás dropped the syringe, which doesn't even make any sense. Uncle Tomás doesn't have any reason to hurt Dad, does he?
Nate: Your gut's telling you Dani's uncle wants to hurt her dad?
Shaun: I didn't trust the guy from the first minute I laid my eyes on him. Between me and you, I feel sorry for anybody who gets on his bad side.
Blair: Of course, I want to know who shot Todd. Why don't you just sit down--
Tomás: You have to admit that all you intended this date to be tonight was a fact-finding mission. If that's all tonight is for you, then we should end this here.
Natalie: I'm sorry. I've been going on and on about my problems. It's obvious you two were in the middle of something.
Rex: No, not at all.
Natalie: And you used to be much better liars.
Rex: Shane's going through something.
Natalie: What do you mean?
Rex: He's seeing a therapist. And...this afternoon, Gigi took one of the tapes from his private session with her.
Marty: I'd like to tell you that...the doctor accused me of stealing the recording she made of our last therapy session together. Yep, she has no idea where it is. She obviously can't run her own office, so I can only imagine where my hour with the doctor ended up.
Gigi: Thanks, Rex. I can't believe you just ratted me out.
Rex: She's family, Gigi. It's not like she's gonna turn you in.
Natalie: Yeah, and Rex really isn't the most reliable witness.
Rex: We need to let her know what's going on. The doctor said we can't be secretive about this, because it'll make Shane feel ashamed and he has nothing to be ashamed of. It's the guys who bullied him that should feel bad.
Natalie: Shane was bullied?
Rex: Yeah. It was bad. And he never told us. He kept it all inside until...
Natalie: What happened? Is Shane ok?
Gigi: We hope so. That's why we were gonna listen to the tape of his therapy session to make sure that he doesn't...
Natalie: Listen, if you don't want to tell me or you feel you can't, that's ok.
Marty: My tape could be anywhere. But for the doctor to accuse me is reckless. You know that I would never do anything like that, especially now that I'm getting better. What reason would I have?
John: Is that what happened, Doc?
Gigi: Tell her.
Rex: The kids who bullied Shane...
Rex: It got so bad... they drove him to try to kill himself. They drove him to try to kill himself.
Deanna: Starr, I'm really sorry, but I couldn't leave Llanview without telling James the real reason I broke up with him.
Starr: The real reason?
Deanna: His father made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and I made the mistake of taking it.
Starr: Meaning what?
Deanna: As long as I can remember, I've been searching for my biological mother. But because of some mix-up with the records, the only person who could help me was this one lawyer. James' father found him, but he wouldn't give me the guy's information unless I broke up with James. So I did.
Starr: Eddie wanted to keep his cash cow. I get it. That makes sense. Did you ever find your mother?
Deanna: Not yet. The lawyer-- he wants 20 grand before he'll help me.
Starr: And that's why you're so desperate for cash?
Deanna: Yeah. That's why. You probably don't know what it's like to wonder who your mother is, to see what she looks like, what it would be like to talk to her, how it would feel to have her arms around you. I keep thinking if I could just find her, I'd feel like a whole person. Starr, I never had a family, and it's all I ever wanted. You can understand that, can't you?
Blair: Are you leaving because you're afraid that you're gonna slip up and say something you don't want me to know?
Tomás: No. Should I stay? You won't end the night any closer to knowing who shot your ex-husband than you are now, but you might learn something else-- something you don't want to know.
Blair: What might that be?
Tomás: That we could actually be good together. What do you say, Blair? You willing to take that chance?
Dani: What? Is there some reason Uncle Tomás would want to hurt Dad?
Téa : Mija, Detective McBain asked me about Tomás.
Dani: About what happened to Dad?
Téa : He had some suspicions-- nothing concrete--so I did what any good lawyer would do. I snooped.
Dani: Ok, and?
Téa : Nothing. Nothing. Your uncle swore to me on your grandfather's grave that he had nothing to do with shooting your father, and I believe him.
Dani: You believe him?
Téa : Uh-huh.
Dani: So you don't think he's the person that dropped that syringe?
Blair: Since we're putting our cards on the table, I want you to know that I have been warned to steer clear of you.
Tomás: By my sister.
Blair: John McBain.
Tomás: Of course.
Blair: I trust him. Last man he told me stay away from was Elijah Clarke, and that man nearly killed me.
Tomás: Yet here you are, taking your life into your hands with the man you think may have shot your ex-husband.
Blair: Thank you. Your friend Monsieur Calmar thinks that I might just break your heart.
Tomás: An inauspicious beginning at best. I tell you what, can we just put all that aside and see what happens?
Blair: I think that's a fine idea. I'm willing to take that chance.
Starr: You're right. I feel very lucky to have my mom and my family.
James: It's why Deanna missed her bus, Starr, 'cause she had to get all this off her chest.
Deanna: I couldn't let James go on thinking I meant to hurt him.
Starr: Oh, I get it. You came to Llanview to find James to tell him what his dad did to you, and you thought that you two would get back together. Am I right?
Deanna: Yes. That is exactly what I thought.
John: You came all the way out here to ask Marty about a missing tape?
Dr. Buhari: That's what Marty says.
Marty: All right, then. Time for you to leave. John didn't come here to chat with you. He came here for dinner with me. Make yourself at home. You know where stuff is. Put on some music.
Marty: Stop interfering. John left Natalie because he thought Brody was the father of her baby. I'm not gonna have him running back to her because I tell him the truth, not when I'm so close to getting him back.
Dr. Buhari: Lieutenant McBain's too smart not to realize you're hiding something. Whether you tell him or not, the man is going to find out about his son.
Gigi: Just can't believe we didn't see it.
Natalie: You guys are great parents. [Natalie sniffling] You know what... I asked you to be Liam's Godparents because I have the utmost faith in the two of you, and you're doing the right thing. You're getting Shane into therapy. You're doing what you need to do.
Gigi: Like stealing his recording of his first therapy session?
Natalie: Any parent in your situation, I think, would probably want to do the same thing. You're just trying to protect your son. And honestly, I think it's right for you to "borrow" that tape.
Gigi: Yeah, but listening to the tape means I'm betraying Shane's privacy. But before, we didn't even ha... we didn't ev... we didn't even have a clue that he was being tormented so badly that he couldn't see a way out.
Rex: We wanted to make sure that it wouldn't happen again, you know. We can't, can we?
Natalie: You need to do what you feel is right. I know my moral compass has been shot to hell, but if it were my son and there were info about him on that tape, I'd listen to it. I think I have an idea to get you the answers that you need.
Deanna: Even though I was thinking James and I could get back together, I respect that he's with you now. It's great to see him so happy. That's all that matters to me. And I just needed you to know that I loved you, and I didn't mean those terrible things I said.
Starr: Why don't we try this again?
Deanna: Try what?
Starr: Finding a way to get you back to Dayton. James and I can drive you to the bus station, then we can get on with our date.
Nate: I really screwed up when I told her I thought he dropped that needle. I didn't even see anything.
Shaun: So why did you say something?
Nate: Because... as much as her dad hates me, I can't let anything else bad happen to him. It would just kill her.
Shaun: You did the right thing by getting McBain involved, but now you gotta smooth things over with Dani.
Nate: I know I gotta make it right, but I don't even know how. She won't accept any of my calls. Now she's in there, but she doesn't want to be disturbed.
Téa : No. I don't believe that Tomás had anything to do with the syringe you and Nate found, ok? I don't think he's out to get your father.
Dani: Good, because I don't believe that. God, Nate had no right to accuse him of that.
Téa : Sweetheart, don't be mad at Nate. He's only trying to protect your father, which is pretty remarkable considering how your father treated him before all this happened.
Dani: Yeah. Dad was pretty over the top about Nate.
Téa : Ha ha! To be fair, I think there was more going on with your father than just him being overprotective.
Dani: What do you mean?
Téa : I overheard him on the phone a few times. Sounded like someone was pressuring him.
Dani: Who? About what?
Téa : I wish I knew, because whoever it was... I think is the person who did this to him.
Tomás: You know what's bothering me?
Blair: I can't even imagine.
Tomás: Our relationship, or whatever this is, seems to be based around your ex-husband and my sister.
Blair: You know, you're right about that.
Tomás: So that ends now.
Blair: And how do we do that?
Tomás: I want to know about you, Blair. Who were you before you met Todd Manning? Who were you before that photo I found of you on your wedding day?
Blair: Hmm. Who was I before I met Todd Manning? I was a gold-digger. I did whatever I had to do for money. If that meant marrying the wealthiest, most powerful man in town even though he was decades older than me and I couldn't stand him, I did it. I was hoping he would die so I could have his money.
Tomás: Wow. I'm sure you had your reasons.
Blair: It's my mother. She didn't raise me. She was mentally ill most of her life, and I went from foster home to foster home. So I did whatever I had to do to make sure my mother was taken care of.
Tomás: So whatever you did was justified.
Blair: Maybe. But having good reasons for doing bad things doesn't make it right, now does it?
Tomás: I think it does.
Blair: Ok, so what bad things have you done for all the right reasons?
Marty: See, I knew I was right about your thing with Kelly. It's rebound. Try to make you forget about Natalie. I really just don't understand how she could have lied to you all those months about the baby. What was she thinking?
John: I don't know. You're the shrink. You tell me.
Marty: I don't know. I don't get it. She must have known that as soon as you found out the truth, you'd have every reason in the world to break up with her.
John: Yeah. But you know, for some reason, you think you're the one responsible for breaking us up. Why is that?
Natalie: This tape is sensitive, but you need answers and you don't want to betray Shane's trust. So let me do the dirty work. I'll listen to the tape for you.
Gigi: You'd listen to our son's therapy session.
Natalie: Yeah, why not? Listen, I'll let you know if there's anything you need to know. I'll tell you. And if there's nothing there, I won't. Then your hands are clean. That way, you won't have any knowledge of anything Shane doesn't want you to know.
Dani: Did you check out the calls or anything, see where they were calling from?
Téa : Dani, you know me better than that. 'Course I did.
Dani: What did you find?
Téa : It was a restricted number. And when I asked your father, he'd clam up, so--listen to me. Listen. All we can do is keep protecting him the way Nate was. When he wakes up, I'll ask him who wanted him dead and why.
Téa : Dani, what is it? What is it, honey?
Dani: Mom. I know we haven't talked about this. Dad's been out a long time.
Téa : I know.
Dani: What do you think's going to happen? You still think he's going to wake up? Mom?
[Knock on door]
Shaun: It's me--Shaun.
Téa : Yeah. What is it? What's going on? Is everything ok?
Shaun: Everything's cool. I just wanted to tell Dani Nate's out here with me, and he's waiting to talk to you-- only if you want.
Téa : You should go talk to him. Ok? You should go talk to him, honey.
Dani: You're not gonna answer me about Dad.
Téa : Listen to me. Your father's gonna wake up. Ok?
Nate: So what did she say?
Nate: How did she look? Did she look angry? Upset?
Shaun: I did what I could. There's nothing else I can tell you.
Nate: Thanks for trying, Shaun.
Téa : Does that feel good? I know how much you like it when I massage your earlobes. [Sniffling] I lied to Dani her whole childhood about you. And now she's growing up, and I'm still lying to her. I just don't know how to tell her. It's hard to keep hoping, Todd.
Tomás: I've done a lot of wrong things for the right reasons, starting with leaving my family to go on a world tour as a concert musician.
Blair: Come on, that doesn't sound so wrong to me.
Tomás: I left my family, Blair. They didn't mean much to me. I took them for granted. My father died, and I wasn't there. I was too busy. I was wrapped up in my own life. Maybe I could have been a better brother to Téa. Maybe I could have helped her.
Blair: I think Téa's done all right on her own.
Tomás: I'm not so sure about that.
Blair: Excuse me. Were you about to talk about Todd?
Tomás: I thought we agreed to put that aside.
Blair: We did.
Tomás: The point is, I'm here for Téa now, Téa and Danielle. I feel like I'm finally getting my life back together. I'm getting my family together again. That's what matters to me. That and you. I have a confession to make, Blair.
James: Starr. Twinkle, I told you, Deanna and I--we got into a pretty intense conversation, and she missed her bus. We haven't had a chance to figure out another plan.
Starr: But the buses run all night, don't they?
Deanna: Have you ever taken a long bus ride at night? It's really creepy.
Starr: Well, what if one's leaving soon? Why don't I check the schedule? It would be a shame for you to miss it, right?
Rex: Don't you have to get to work?
Natalie: I don't think my uncle's gonna fire me if I'm just a little bit late. This is Shane. This is way more important. I swear, I will tell you if there's a hint of anything that Shane's thinking about hurting himself again.
Rex: It's really nice of you to offer.
Natalie: Listen, I get it now. I'm a parent, and I realize that you would break any law, you would break down any door, you would level anyone or anything just to make sure that your kid's safe.
Rex: Here you go.
Marty: Kelly told you that, didn't she? Ah, this is one hell of a day for Marty. First my shrink loses the recording of my therapy session. And now I'm just trying to have a nice evening with you, I find out that I'm being completely misrepresented.
John: How so?
Marty: Kelly got it all wrong. I didn't tell her that I broke you and Natalie up. I told her that I could have, that I knew about the baby because of the paternity test and that I could have broken you two up, but I didn't.
John: No, there's more to it than that, you know? You reached out to me, and I appreciate that. I do. But I don't want there to be any secrets between us. Natalie kept secrets, and look how that turned out.
Marty: It was unforgivable.
John: Yes, it is. So I'm asking you, is there anything you want to tell me?
Marty: I do want to have a clean slate with you, and I can't do that if you don't know what I did. So it's time to tell you.
Deanna: Hey, Starr, thanks. It's awesome of you to try and help me out of town, but you don't have to do this.
Starr: I don't mind.
James: Starr's really good at finding out what we need to know, right?
Deanna: But I don't need to know the bus schedule.
James: You don't have enough money for any other way back to Dayton.
Deanna: That's ok.
Starr: What do you mean?
Deanna: Because I've decided to stay in Llanview.
Rex: Ready to go?
Gigi: Right, yeah. We'll let you get to it.
Natalie: Guys, you're already doing the right thing here. Shane's probably already on the mend. As soon as I listen to this tape, I think we're all gonna feel a whole lot better.
John: You want to make a fresh start with no secrets between us.
Marty: I do.
John: So what is it you want to tell me?
Marty: First there's something I need to find out about you.
Natalie: Hey, sweetie. You doing ok? Oh, Liam. I don't know what I would do if anyone ever tried to hurt you.
Nate: I'm sorry I was suspicious of your uncle.
Dani: No, I'm sorry. I should have realized that you were just looking out for my dad.
Nate: Considering how well your dad and me get along, I can understand why you'd be confused. But I never should have let my stupid hunch get between us.
Dani: No, it didn't get between us, not really. I'm not mad at you anymore.
Nate: Good to know.
Dani: Come here.
Nate: I love you, Dani.
Dani: I love you, too. Nothing's gonna come between us.
Nate: Not even if your dad wakes up?
Dani: No, not even him. Besides, my mom thinks the reason he was so over the top about you is because something else was on his mind.
Dani: She's not really sure, but she thinks my dad might have known someone was after him.
Blair: What do you have to confess?
Tomás: When I made that portrait of you, I dreamed of meeting you. Of course, I never thought it would happen, but somehow you managed to find me. I've been waiting years to get to know you. Now the more I know about you, the more I want to be with you.
Blair: Well, I have a confession to make, too. I feel the same way about you.
Téa : I've been here a long time. I'm tired, Todd. Our daughter caught me praying to St. Jude [Speaking Spanish]. I know how much you like it when I speak Spanish. I don't know who else to turn to, Todd. I don't know if I should keep hoping. I don't know if I can. [Téa crying]
Todd: [Groans] Geez, enough with the waterworks already.
Téa : Ha ha ha!
On the next "One Life to Live"...
Téa : You're awake!
Shaun: Now maybe we'll get some answers.
Tomás: The more I want to be with you.
Starr: You're going to live here?
Rex: Don't play that!
Marty: I can make you happy.
