James: Just ignore it. Just ignore it. You said you were lying to me when you broke up with me. About what, Deanna?
Deanna: This isn't the best time.
James: Yes, it is. Now tell me. Why did you break up with me?
Starr: James? Are you there?
Dani: Don't you love it?
Téa: Yeah, I do.
Dani: I think I'm gonna hang it over my desk. It reminds me of me with Dad. Mom, do you want this? You should take this. It's really you and your dad, and you don't have that many pictures with him.
Téa: No, no, no. I don't want to take it away from you. I'm glad you like it. I can see it in your room.
Dani: Maybe Uncle Tomás has more.
Téa: Did you ask?
Dani: No. He didn't really say. But he had this envelope that he was kind of hiding.
Jack: No, I'm in lockdown. Mom went DEFCON one over Wheezy. I know, right? Don't worry about it. She'll get over it by Tuesday.
Blair: Yeah, Mom won't get over it. Lost the phone, too, buddy.
Jack: Mom, come on.
Blair: You know what? Non-negotiable. So did you apologize to Shane?
Jack: I couldn't.
Blair: Why not?
Jack: He didn't show up at school today.
Rex: Shane, listen. I'm gonna ask you something, and I need you to be completely honest with us, ok? Do not worry about our feelings. Just tell us the truth. Will you do that?
Rex: Why didn't you let us know what was going on? Did you really think we were gonna go to the principal and make things worse?
Shane: You could've.
Gigi: If you had said, "That's the worst thing you could do, please don't," you think we would've ignored you?
Shane: I guess not.
Rex: Is that what you think? Like I said, do not worry about us. Do you think we'd ignore you? Is that why?
Shane: No. You guys are cool.
Gigi: Not really.
Shane: No, you are. It's me. I'm the embarrassing one.
Rex: Shane, you are not embarrassing. Is that why you didn't tell us?
Shane: I didn't want you to know that I'm such a loser. It was bad enough when Grandma found out. You should've seen the look on her face.
Echo: You slipped the noose...barely.
Clint: Too bad I can't get rid of you.
Echo: Don't be greedy. You avoided prison five different ways. That's a whole lot of good fortune in one week.
Clint: What are you doing in my house?
Echo: I have news, and I wanted to be the one to tell you.
Clint: You're leaving town?
Echo: No. No. Charlie and I are having an affair.
Viki: I can't listen to another apology.
Charlie: I know, and that's not what I was gonna say.
Viki: Sorry. Go ahead.
Charlie: I will be here for Ryder's custody hearing. I'll be in the court. I'll meet the judge. If they come here for a home visit. Whatever you need, I will make sure that the court only sees a stable marriage and a steady guy.
Viki: Funny. That's what I saw.
Charlie: I want to help, Viki. I know that a big part of the custody petition was about us. And I also know that it is important for Ryder to get back in this house. So I won't let you down there.
Viki: What about everywhere else? Are you going to be there to help me raise Ryder till Jessie is back?
Clint: What the hell is the matter with you? You've just gotta have Viki's husband? First you went after me, now you're back for another one?
Echo: You know what? This isn't about Viki, but she thought the same thing, too. But it's not like that.
Clint: Viki knows?
Clint: Because you couldn't keep your big mouth shut?
Echo: I never wanted her to find out, but she caught us.
Charlie: I won't be here to raise Ryder.
Viki: No. And I wouldn't want you here.
Charlie: And that's what I figured. But if I need to be here to convince the court--
Viki: What? You'll suck it up? Stick around? Go through the motions?
Charlie: No, it's not like that.
Viki: That would be so awful. I am not going to pretend for the court.
Charlie: I know that you're not comfortable with this, but if it is the thing that is gonna guarantee that Ryder is safe, doesn't that matter more?
Viki: Even if I wanted your help, Charlie, it wouldn't work. We show up in court pretending to be the happy couple, and Tess shows the judge the picture of you kissing Echo. That would make me as big a liar as you and that-- that woman. I am not going to lie to the court. I do not need your help. So you are free. Go. Be with Echo.
Clint: So what is this-- extortion? You want Viki to pay to get rid of you?
Echo: You know, Clint, I've done a lot of lousy things in my life, but not that.
Clint: You don't want the money?
Clint: You want Charlie. So you set it up so Viki would throw the bum out?
Echo: Charlie was already going to leave her.
Clint: No, he wasn't.
Echo: We were talking about how it was going to happen, and Viki walked in on us.
Clint: On you and Charlie?
Echo: Yes. He's always had a very special place in my heart, Clint. I understand him in a way Viki never could.
Clint: Don't you blame Viki for this. It was your scheming to trap him that made all of this happen.
Echo: You know what? I don't blame Viki. I blame you.
Blair: No wonder Shane didn't show up at school today after what you did to him.
Jack: It wasn't just--
Blair: Jack, you stole his clothes. You made a videotape of him naked, and you put it on the Internet. Don't you think that was humiliating?
Jack: You don't even let me finish.
Blair: Ok. Go ahead. Finish.
Jack: It wasn't just me.
Blair: You think that makes it all right? I don't care who else it was. This is about you, Jack, and the kind of man that you're gonna be in this world.
Jack: Yeah. Ok. I'll work on that. Can I just go to my room now?
Blair: No. You're going over to Shane's right now, and you're gonna apologize.
Téa: You think Tomás was hiding something?
Dani: Maybe. He took this drawing out of an envelope and then when I asked him about it, he just kind of acted strange. Then he put the envelope away like he was hiding it. I don't know--maybe they were, like, drawings that he hadn't finished or something.
Téa: Yeah, it sounds like an artist thing.
Dani: I have to study.
Téa: Ok, mi'ja. Go study.
[Knocking on door]
Tomás: How's Todd?
Téa: There's no change. Dani framed that drawing you made of me and Papi.
Tomás: Really? She likes it?
Téa: Yeah. Yeah. She was wondering if you had any other drawings.
Tomás: I don't know. Maybe a few. Can I look later? I'm on my way out.
Téa: Ok, sure, but don't forget, ok?
Tomás: Ok. I won't.
Téa: Ok. Ha!
Starr: Oh, thank God you're here.
James: What's wrong?
Starr: I'm losing my best friend.
James: What? How? Starr, what happened?
Starr: Langston's moving to L.A. and-- Hi. I've seen you before. At Buenos Dias.
Starr: And you added James as a friend on MyFace. Didn't she?
Starr: What is she doing here?
Tomás: This a bad time?
Dani: Mom? What are you doing?
Tomás: Peace offering. It's our wine, the one we had in Paris.
Blair: Why the peace offering?
Tomás: You tell me. What have I done to make you avoid me?
Rex: Grandma was probably very upset, because she does not think you're a loser.
Gigi: Listen to me. You are not a loser. You are handsome. You're talented. You're funny. Smart.
Rex: You're brave. You beat cancer. How many kids your age can say that?
Shane: If I'm so great, why does everybody hate me?
Gigi: Because you are so great. They have to tear you down so they feel better about themselves. They're jealous.
Shane: I seriously doubt that. No one wants to be me.
Rex: Well, maybe not right this minute, but deep down, they know the truth.
Shane: What truth?
Rex: Guys like you end up running the world. You're gonna leave them in the dust someday.
Shane: You actually believe that?
Clint: I can hardly wait to hear this. How am I responsible for you seducing Charlie Banks?
Echo: Oh, I didn't seduce him. You threw the two of us together.
Clint: I would have given the man a Hazmat suit and a long stick if I knew he was susceptible to you.
Echo: Clint, you made it look like Charlie and I had a son together. Remember that? You set this whole thing in motion, because you're a mean, old snake who wouldn't claim his own son.
Clint: Well, the truth is out now.
Echo: Yes, and it broke Charlie's heart. Of course, he turned to me.
Clint: Ok. He turned to you. Echo, you're the winner. I am the big, bad wolf, but now the fun is over. So just send him back to his home and his wife.
Echo: That's not up to me.
Clint: Charlie loves Viki.
Echo: Not anymore. He's in love with me now.
Blair: You haven't done anything, Tomás.
Tomás: I've called and left messages. I know you don't want to go out with me, but I thought we were at least friends.
Tomás: Except you act like I'm gonna do my niece harm.
Blair: You're talking about Capricorn? I told you, I haven't been myself. I'm worried. About Todd.
Tomás: And me. Ever since we ran into your friend the detective, you've been avoiding me. And I have to wonder...do you think I had something to do with what happened to Todd?
Charlie: I tried to tell you but with everything that was going on, all the crisis--
Viki: What did you try to tell me?
Charlie: About what happened with Echo.
Viki: Ah. You mean about the night when the weddings fell apart, and you accidentally found yourself in bed with her?
Charlie: I hope I didn't make it sound that cheap. But it's true that I didn't go there with the intention of sleeping with Echo. And I certainly didn't intend to fall in love with her. It just...
Viki: Oh, no, don't, don't, don't, don't. Please do not tell me that it just happened, as if you were some sort of innocent bystander in your own life. We make choices in life, Charlie, you know? You can choose to stop yourself or you can choose not to stop yourself, and you chose, you chose to do something that would destroy us. That didn't happen. You made it happen. Please go. Just take your things and go.
Clint: Charlie Banks does not love you.
Echo: Why is that so hard to believe? You had real feelings for me once, Clint, a long time ago.
Clint: It's because I was young and real stupid. Charlie's smarter than that.
Echo: Well, he's with Viki right now telling her he's leaving.
Clint: That son of a bitch. Doesn't he know what Viki's going through?
Echo: I know.
Clint: No, you don't. You have no idea what it's like to watch your child come apart, and this time take an innocent baby with her.
Echo: Charlie and I feel terrible about everything that's going on with your daughters.
Clint: You and Charlie are both losers. And you're gonna end up back in Atlantic City, huddled around a fire, sharing a bottle of rotgut.
Echo: Why are you taking this so personally, Clint? It's not like somebody cheated on you.
Clint: It's worse. Someone's cheated on Viki, and she doesn't deserve this. Why did you come here?
Echo: I want your silence. Charlie believes that you tricked both of us into thinking Rex was his son, and I want it to stay that way.
Shane: You guys would say, like, anything now, wouldn't you?
Rex: Well, we're just telling you the truth.
Gigi: We love you.
Shane: I'm not worth the trouble.
Rex: Hey. Listen to me. You are worth everything.
Gigi: And Shane, honey, we need you to promise us that you will never try to-- that you'll never try to hurt yourself again.
Blair: John said that he found a Euro at the crime scene. I told him it could be anybody's.
Tomás: It could.
Blair: He also said that he had wounded the gunman, and I do remember after the shooting, you holding your side in pain, and you were a little vague about what-- what are you doing?
Tomás: John McBain did not shoot me. I'll prove it to you.
Téa: I'm--I'm snooping.
Dani: I got that.
Téa: I was looking to see if Tomás had any more drawings.
Dani: Why didn't you just ask him?
Téa: How do you know I didn't ask him?
Dani: Please don't go all lawyer on me. You shouldn't be going through Uncle Tomás' things.
Téa: He's my brother.
Dani: So that means that I can go through Jack's stuff?
Téa: Well, whatever money you find, we split, ok?
Téa: No! Ha ha! No. You can't go through Jack's things.
Dani: Do you go through my things?
Téa: Why? Is there something you're hiding from me?
Dani: No, that's not the point. Mom, you shouldn't be in here.
Téa: You know what? You're right. I'm wrong.
Dani: What are you really doing, Mom?
James: Starr, this is Deanna Forbes. Deanna, Starr Manning.
Deanna: Nice to meet you.
Starr: You, too, Deanna Forbes. You two dated, right?
Starr: It's funny. I've never seen you at L.U. before.
Deanna: Oh, no, no. I'm from Dayton.
James: Yeah. We knew each other a long time ago.
Starr: You dated a long--
Deanna: It wasn't dating. James and I were in love. He was my first love.
Starr: He was?
Starr: See, I didn't know that. I also didn't know that she didn't go to L.U.
James: You left before I could explain. Don't you remember?
Starr: That's now how it went, James.
Deanna: Well, I better get dressed. Ok if I use your room? All my stuff's already in there.
Deanna: Hey, nice meeting you.
James: I guess she's not what you expected today.
Starr: You mean Deanna? Your first love from Dayton? Whose stuff is in your room? No, James, that's not what I was expecting. What's going on?
James: Starr, nothing is going on, ok? I didn't even know Deanna was here. When she friended me on MyFace, I thought she was still in Dayton.
Starr: But she was here.
James: Right. Gigi recognized her picture on my computer screen, and she told me that Deanna was staying at the Minute Man Motel. So I went to see her.
Starr: You went to see her?
Clint: You don't want Charlie to know that you're as big a liar as I am? Is that it?
Echo: There's nothing to be gained by telling him.
Clint: Oh, you don't want him to know that you're a manipulative bitch, because if he did, he would chew his arm off, go running back home.
Echo: That won't happen.
Clint: No. It won't, not if you make me the bad guy.
Echo: You are the bad guy. I never wanted to lie to Charlie, but you're the one that wouldn't claim your own son.
Clint: You were more than willing to go along with that because you wanted Charlie.
Echo: Because I wanted a real father for my son. It should've been you. It could be you right now, Clint. You have a son. You have a wonderful grandson who's in so much trouble. He needs real help, and where are you?
Clint: What kind of trouble is Shane in? Is he sick again?
Echo: No. He's being bullied. It got so bad that he ran away yesterday.
Clint: Bullied by who? Give me some names.
Echo: What difference does it make?
Clint: Nobody picks on my grandson and gets away with it.
Echo: So now he's your grandson?
Shane: I don't know what to say.
Gigi: We need you, Shane, to make a pact with us that you won't try to hurt yourself again.
Rex: Ok. Now, whatever that was, whatever you just thought, you can say it.
Shane: Going off of that roof would have fixed everything.
Rex: What, because Jack and his little friends would finally see you face down on a pavement and then care? That's what you said.
Rex: Ok, but if you did that, then they win. At least that's what they'd think.
Rex: The only way you win is by living, by being who you are, ok, and then that way--and I promise--you win.
Gigi: Now you have to promise us that if you ever feel close to that again that you reach out to me or your dad or your therapist. Promise us that you'll never do that again.
Blair: Ok. All right. Stop.
Tomás: No. I want to prove it to you.
Blair: No, no. You keep your clothes on, all right? I don't have time for this right now.
Tomás: Someone shot the father of your children, and you don't have time?
Blair: My son, he-- he's in a cri-- he's in a crisis. Well, I'd like to say he's in a crisis, but it's more than that.
Tomás: All right, Blair. What's wrong?
Blair: I'm afraid Todd and I may have raised a sociopath.
Rex: Please, Shane, promise us.
Rex: I need to hear you say it.
Gigi: And mean it.
Shane: I promise that I'll never try to...off myself again. Can I have something to eat?
Gigi: Yes. Yes. Of course. Come on.
Tomás: You think Jack is acting out because of Todd's injury?
Blair: I don't think so. I think this behavior started a while ago. I don't know exactly when it started. I'll admit, Jack has always been really sharp around the edges, but he's never been this cruel. You know, it's probably, I was too easy on him.
Tomás: No, no, no, no. Being too hard is what backfires. Look at Todd. Looks what he's done with Dani and her boyfriend.
Blair: What, there's no winning here?
Tomás: Boy, I'm the wrong guy to ask. Parenting, it seems completely impossible to me, but I know you're good at it.
Tomás: Because when Téa thought she was dying, she wanted Daniella to be with you. She wouldn't trust her only child to anyone in this world who wasn't the absolute best.
Téa: I told you what I was looking for. What else would I be looking for?
Dani: I don't know. You're an adult, but you're going through your brother's room to look at his stuff.
Téa: I guess that is strange. I don't know what I'm looking for. Tomás has been gone so long, I guess I was just looking for something familiar, something that reminded me of my family, something that comforted me.
Dani: Mom, you should take that picture that he gave me.
Téa: Oh, no. I want you to have that. I just want something. I--
Dani: You want Dad home.
Téa: I do.
Dani: It's so weird to be in his house without him. Mom...it's ok. You can do this. You can cry about it, ok? You got to miss him even more than I do.
Téa: I do. I do miss Todd.
Clint: What did these bullies do to Shane?
Echo: They wrote terrible things about him online. They teased him about his asthma, called him Wheezy. One day, they stole his inhaler, and he had an asthma attack that nearly killed him.
Clint: Those bastards.
Echo: And they stole his clothes after Gym class yesterday, and they took videos of him naked, and they posted it online.
Clint: No wonder the boy ran. Did Rex and Gigi find him?
Echo: They brought him home yesterday, but I don't know where he was. Nobody wanted to talk.
Clint: Give me the names, and those kids will wish they'd never been born.
Echo: You care.
Clint: I care about justice.
Echo: You care about your grandson.
Charlie: Well, here's most of it.
Viki: That's no more than you came with.
Charlie: Yeah. Well, I haven't picked up much since, and you didn't need anything. At least the house didn't. It was all set.
Viki: Yeah. It always has been without you.
Charlie: So there is a few things left, so if you just call me and let me know when'd be a good time for me to come down--
Viki: No. No. Don't, ok? I'll send stuff to you, I guess, at that motel.
Charlie: Yeah. That's good for now, but I don't mind coming back and--
Viki: No. Don't Charlie. Really, don't. I need you to go right now. I don't want to see you again. Whoa.
James: Starr, I went to find Deanna, because Gigi told me she looked sad, like something might be wrong. I mean, she was staying at the Minute Man Motel, and it's not exactly the nicest place, so I was worried. I was, and I went to go see her.
Starr: But now she's here in your room with her stuff.
James: Ok. Look. She's broke, ok? She didn't have any money to pay for the motel, so I told her that she could crash here until she goes back to Ohio.
Starr: She's crashing in your room?
James: Well, she can't sleep out here. I mean, God, with Bobby and Tess and the baby everywhere. Starr, I slept on the floor. Look. Hey, hey, this is not something you've got to be worried about, ok?
Starr: You're sure about that?
James: Yeah. I'm just trying to help her out. That's all. Look. Deanna and I are done. We broke up a long time ago. I'm with you, ok?
Starr: Can I ask you a question?
Starr: How'd you break up?
James: She dumped me.
James: Yeah. Yeah. It was pretty bad.
Starr: James, why didn't you ever tell me about her?
Blair: Thank you.
Tomás: Anytime. You want advice from someone who knows absolutely nothing about parenting, you call me. I'm your man.
Blair: I'll keep that in mind.
Tomás: You call me anyway. I miss you.
Shane: Can I go upstairs now? I just want to work on my comic. That's all.
Shane: You guys aren't gonna make me go to school, are you?
Gigi: We have a lot of stuff to figure out, but we won't do anything that isn't ok with you, all right? Don't worry. I'll be right up.
Shane: I'll be there.
Rex: Ok. We're not supposed to hover or invade his privacy. That's in the list of don'ts.
Gigi: Are you ready to leave him completely alone?
Gigi: Do you think he meant that promise?
Rex: I don't know. He definitely wanted to shut us up. I'll just check in with the school if he ever goes back.
Gigi: We're taking him to the shrink as soon as he's rested.
Rex: Yeah. Maybe we should see one, too, at least me.
Rex: I wanted to throttle Jack manning. Every time I think about what happened, what almost happened--
Gigi: Me, too. Shane isn't the only one that doesn't want him back at that school. I don't want him near Jack manning ever again.
Blair: Ok, you're gonna apologize to Shane now.
Jack: I have to study.
Blair: Well, you know what? You can do it after you're finished apologizing.
Jack: This is child abuse.
Blair: Oh, yeah. Is it?
Blair: You know what? If you'd come when I called, none of this would have happened. Now let's go.
Echo: You can ruin everything for me, but what does that get you? You walked away from a murder charge. You beat the rap for changing Rex's paternity. You're a free man, Clint.
Clint: Yeah. I plan on enjoying it.
Echo: So enjoy it. Enjoy it, but please just let me be. I'm sorry about Viki. I really am. But nothing is going to change if you tell Charlie I lied. Those two are still through.
Clint: Oh, keep on saying it.
Echo: I make Charlie happy. He's lost two sons in the last few years, one because of you. He can be happy, Clint. You can let him be happy. You can be a human being if you want to be. So please just let him be.
Clint: This is very touching, but I'm not buying it. You are not doing this for Charlie. You're doing this for yourself.
Charlie: Do you know that I have been afraid of losing you since the day that we met?
Viki: Well, you made it happen.
Charlie: I just couldn't let you see me fall apart, ok, and that's my problem--I know--but it's a real one. I just couldn't let you see me be that weak, and so when I lost Rex, I went to Echo because she's like me, and we grieved together, and it grew into something.
Viki: I don't want to hear that.
Charlie: You know, the day that you waited on me at the Bon-Jour, you saved my life. Maybe you're sorry that I stopped at your table that day, but you turned my life around.
Viki: No, Charlie. I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry at all, but it's over now. We're getting a divorce.
Echo: So what's it gonna be? You already made everyone believe that Rex was Charlie's son. All I'm asking is that you make people believe that I was fooled, too.
Clint: Oh, God, I don't know.
Echo: Well, at least that's not a no.
Clint: It's not a yes, either.
Viki: Charlie, our marriage is over. You're in love with Echo. We need to get a divorce.
Charlie: Yeah. I guess that's where we are at. I'm sorry.
Viki: So am I. Wait. Wait. This is yours.
Rex: No matter where Shane goes now, we have to fill in Llanview High about Jack and all his little friends.
Gigi: Definitely. Maybe Pennsylvania even has a law against bullying.
Rex: I don't know. I'm gonna check with Bo. You're doing great, Geeg. Yes. You are. We're gonna get Shane through this.
Gigi: We'll all make it.
Rex: We will. Call me if you need anything or you're worried or whatever.
Gigi: I'm gonna go upstairs and hang out with Shane.
Rex: All right.
Blair: Jack said that Shane gave this to him and said he didn't need it anymore...
Rex: That may be.
Blair: And even if Jack were telling the truth, we know why Shane--
Rex: No! You don't know, ok? I need to go. You need to leave.
Blair: But Jack is here to make things right. He really wants to apologize.
Rex: Your kid doesn't get to go anywhere near my son, ok? He's done enough.
Blair: I know, and it was horrible. He knows--
Rex: You don't know!
Blair: Did something happen to Shane?
Rex: He tried to kill himself.
Starr: You have never talked about Deanna, James, ever.
James: I didn't know what to say. I mean, she dumped me. It was over. What was there to talk about, Starr?
Starr: I don't know. I guess it must have really hurt you.
James: It was a long time ago.
Starr: James, is she the one that got away?
Deanna: Hey, do you still like breakfast for dinner? I saw some eggs in the fridge.
James: No. Deanna, you don't have to do that. Don't worry about it.
Deanna: It's no trouble.
Starr: You know what? I have a better idea. Why don't I take you and James out to dinner tonight? This way, we can get to know each other better.
James: That is a great idea. Let's go right now. Let's grab our stuff. Come on. Let's go.
James: Are you coming? Let's go.
