Nora: This can't be true. This can't be true.

Bo: It can't, but it is. Honey, Matthew admitted it. We heard him.

Nora: I don't think--no, no. No, no. Our son could not kill someone.

Bo: Matthew shot Eddie Ford, and Clint helped him cover it up.

Nora: It is our job to help him now...only I don't know what to do. Oh! But we have to do something, or else...our son's life is over.

Deanna: Thanks for letting me stay here. James, what was I gonna do? Leave you doing a porn to pay for a motel room? Bobby! Bob! Guess he's not here. Neither is his crazy wife, thank God. Then I guess it's just you and me.

Starr: Mom, don't be so hard on yourself.

Blair: Not hard enough, Starr.

Starr: Hearing Jack talk like that and being so heartless, it must have been a shock.

Blair: It wouldn't have been if I had been paying attention, but I ignored all the signs.

Starr: What kind of signs?

Blair: That my spirited, mischievous little boy was turning into something darker, harder, even dangerous.

Starr: Mom, I know that you're worried about him.

Blair: No, I should be worried about Shane right now. And poor Gigi. I don't even know if she knows where he is. I'm gonna call her. I'm gonna call her and see if there's something that I can do.

Starr: Are you sure that's a good idea?

Blair: I don't know, sweetheart. Jack isn't taking responsibility. Somebody has to.

Gigi: Wait here, ok, while we check in. We'll be right back, ok?

Shane: Ok. I'll be ok.

Rex: I think one of us should stay with him, don't you?

Gigi: Rex, are you sure we should even be here? Shane was so calm on the way over here, but the minute we walked into the hospital, he got all nervous again. Maybe we should just go home and let him chill for a while.

Rex: No, no. We're here now. We should stay. You may know what you're doing with this, but I don't. There are people here who have seen kids in the kind of trouble that Shane's in. They have things to say. I want to hear it.

Gigi: Ok, I'll check in.

Bo: I don't know much right now, but I know that our son's life is not over. Honey, we're gonna take this one step at a time, and we are gonna find a solution.

Nora: You sound so logical, I mean, so sane. I don't know. I feel like ever since we heard that tape, we've just sort of crossed into this world where there's absolutely no sanity and no logic--a world where my son committed murder? I don't like this world. I'd like to go back where everything made sense and where my son was safe.

Echo: Rex, I'm sorry I keep calling, but have you found Shane yet? I'm worried sick here.

[Knock on door]

Echo: I hope that is--please let it be-- Viki. I thought that you were--

Viki: Still with Charlie? In your motel room? No, Charlie and I are done. I came to deal with you.

Echo: So, what is it, Viki? You here to slap me around some more?

Viki: I'm concerned about Shane. Is he still missing?

Echo: I don't know. Rex and Gigi left to go to the school, because they heard that he'd been there recently, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Viki: Well, I pray that he comes home safe very soon. And when he does, I want you off my property permanently.

Deanna: I didn't take a good look when I was here before. It's nice.

James: Yeah? Well, compared to that skeevy motel room, anything's nice.

Deanna: Have you been living here ever since you came to Llanview?

James: Yeah. I was lucky Bobby let me move in, even after I ran off with my dad's money. Still can't believe I did that. I guess after you dumped me, I went a little crazy.

Deanna: James, about that... there's some stuff you need to know about why we broke up.

Bo: I wish I could go back in time... keep my son from getting so hurt and confused that he'd do something he could never take back.

Nora: This is where you're supposed to tell me not to worry.

Bo: I'd give my right arm to be able to tell you something like that.

[Knock on door]

Bo: Destiny.

Destiny: Hi, Commissioner. Is Matthew home? I've been leaving messages, but he hasn't called me back.

Nora: Oh, honey, Matthew can't talk right now. Are you ok?

Destiny: I don't know. Something happened at school. It was really, really bad.

[Cell phone rings]

Blair: Voice mail. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Gigi's not taking my call.

Destiny: And when the video got posted and everybody saw it, Shane was like--I can't even imagine how he felt.

Nora: How can kids be so cruel?

Bo: Jack Manning started all this?

Destiny: When stuff got out on MyFace, I told Shane we should talk to a teacher or somebody, but he wouldn't let me. I wish I hadn't listened to him.

Nora: Do his parents know?

Destiny: They do now. They came to the school looking for him, and they found him.

Bo: Where was he?

Destiny: This is the scary part. On the roof.

Nora: Oh, my God.

Shane: I just don't get why you're making me come here. It's not gonna help.

Rex: It can't hurt, right?

Shane: I just want to go home.

Rex: We will, just as soon as we're done here. Nothing's gonna happen that you don't want to.

Nora: Oh, my God. How could those kids keep tormenting Shane until he felt like he had no way out?

Bo: We don't know for sure, but I'm gonna find out.

Rex: Bo.

Bo: Nora and I just heard about Shane. Where are you?

Rex: In the E.R.

Bo: How's Shane? What's going on?

Rex: Sorry. I can't talk right now.

Bo: They're in the E.R., but Balsom couldn't talk.

Nora: Go. I understand. We'll be fine. Go.

Bo: I'll be right back.

Nora: Ok.

Nurse: Sorry to keep you waiting. How can I help you?

Gigi: I'm trying to find my insurance card. I had insurance with my old job. Now I'm working somewhere else. I think the insurance should still be good.

Nurse: Why don't you tell me what the problem is first?

Gigi: We need a doctor to look at our son.

Nurse: What's the nature of his injuries?

Gigi: No, he doesn't have any injuries.

Nurse: No injuries?

Gigi: He's fine, he's fine.

Nurse: Then why are you here? If you brought him to the E.R., there must be something wrong.

Gigi: There's nothing wrong with my son. He's a beautiful, wonderful boy. He's my life. But something happened, so we came here because...

Nurse: Go on.

Gigi: We didn't know what to do. He, uh...he, um... he, um... he... he tried... he tried to kill himself. He, um...he wanted to... he wanted to jump off of a roof! Oh, God!

Starr: To confirm that you want to delete the account, you click "Y".

Blair: This box right here?

Starr: Yeah.

Blair: Right there?

Starr: Mm-hmm. Done.

Blair: So it's completely deleted.

Starr: Bye-bye, MyFace.

Blair: I just can't believe all those things that he posted, all those nasty things that he said about Shane for so long, for weeks. My gosh, why would Jack feel that he needed to taunt that boy like that, Starr?

Starr: I don't know.

Blair: I should have been checking on him.

Starr: You know what, you weren't even friends with Jack on MyFace. You had no access. I was. I could have seen what he was posting. But instead, I... I figured high school drama. Who wants to deal with that again? If you're going to blame yourself for not knowing what was going on, you have to blame me, too.

Blair: Starr, I'm his mother. It was up to me, not you. I dropped the ball.

Starr: Now that you know the whole story, you're not running from it. You're doing something.

Blair: I don't even know if it will do any good.

Starr: Why would you say that?

Blair: Jack's not sorry. He's not sorry! Either he doesn't know what he did was wrong, or he doesn't care. I don't know which is worse.

[Cell phone buzzes]

Jack: Dragon lady's got me under house arrest, so keep it down. What's going on?

Echo: I'm here for one reason. Rex and my grandson live here, and I'd like to stick by them.

Viki: By all means. You stick by them to your heart's content, anywhere but here.

Echo: That's going to be kind of limiting.

Viki: Yes, yes, it is going to be limiting, especially for one who's so concerned with family unity. Isn't it lovely that your family values co-exist so nicely with your compulsion to sleep with my husband?

Echo: Viki, please, just wait. Can I explain one thing?

Viki: No. There is only one explanation for this. You are a devious, selfish whore, and you've destroyed my marriage and broken my home.

Echo: You can call me whatever you want if it makes you feel better.

Viki: It doesn't.

Echo: I never set out to hurt you, Viki. What happened with Charlie just happened, and I am truly sorry.

Viki: Sorry? You're not sorry. That's a lie. The minute you set foot in this town, your priority was Charlie. You wormed your way into my home. Nothing was off-limits for you. You used your son, your grandson, your drinking to gain his sympathy. Don't tell me it just happened. It was very deliberate on your part. Again. And you got him. Congratulations.

Deanna: But you don't understand.

James: I do. You were very clear. Just like I'm being very clear about how things are right now. Starr and I are together.

Starr: Maybe Jack feels worse than he's acting. Maybe he thinks that not being sorry is more grown up or cool or something.

Blair: Maybe.

Starr: It probably hasn't even sunk in for him yet. Once he thinks about what happened, he'll have to deal with it.

Blair: So you think he's gonna learn something from all of this?

Starr: Look at what happened to me. I learned from that, didn't I?

Blair: Yeah, look at you. You turned out wiser than all the rest of us put together. My beautiful, beautiful grown up little girl. I don't know what I'd do without you, sweetie. I don't know.

Destiny: I should go. You're probably really busy.

Nora: Oh, no. It's ok, sweetheart. Can I get you something to drink? A soda or tea, maybe? I think I can find something in that kitchen to eat.

Destiny: No, thanks. I don't think I can eat anything.

Nora: Sit, sit, sit.

Destiny: You know, I told Shane I know what it's like. Kids used to make fun of me, too, not that long ago. The only one who didn't was Matthew. He's one of the good guys.

Nora: I always thought so.

Destiny: Are you ok, Miss B?

Nora: Yes, I'm fine. As a mother, it's hard to watch bad things happen to good kids like Shane.

Nurse: Your parents will be right in, Shane. Dr. Buhari will be here in a few minutes, ok?

Shane: Yeah, ok.

Rex: You ok?

Gigi: I will be. I have to be for Shane. I think that's it. Thank you.

Nurse: You can go in now.

Gigi: How you doing, honey?

Shane: Better when we go home.

Dr. Buhari: Hi. You must be Shane. I'm Dr. Buhari. You're the parents?

Gigi: Yeah.

Rex: Yeah. I'm Rex Balsom.

Gigi: Gigi Morasco.

Dr. Buhari: So, Shane, can you tell me why you're here?

Brad: Wheezy's parents showed up at school, major freak-out. They were yelling at St. Clair about suing you, me, and anyone that had anything to do with the video.

Jack: Seriously?

Brad: Wheezy's dad was out of control. He said you and me should be expelled. You better be ready, man. Your mom's gonna get a call from St. Clair's office any minute.

Jack: I'm not afraid of St. Queer. I took the video down. He won't be able to trace it to us.

Brad: He doesn't have to. "Density" Evans pretty much ratted you out.

Jack: Why am I not surprised?

Brad: You don't care?

Jack: Why? 'Cause Wheezy's parents got in St. Clair's face? Big deal.

Brad: You don't get it. They were coming down from the roof. That's where Wheezy was. That's where they found him.

Jack: What the hell was he doing on the roof?

Brad: Take one guess.

Jack: Holy crap.

Brad: Word.

Echo: When I first came here, Viki, it was because of Rex, not Charlie. I never intended to fall in love. But you have to understand why. You fell in love with him, too.

Viki: Big difference, Echo. He wasn't married when I met him.

Echo: I know.

Viki: Didn't stop you, did it?

Echo: I tried. I tried to keep it from happening.

Viki: Did you really? Then I have to wonder what constitutes trying in your book. Any honorable, decent person would've walked away.

Echo: That wasn't an option for me. I had to rebuild so much. With Rex and with my grandson, and Charlie did, too. Rex was like a new lease on life for us. We both knew what it was like to lose a child.

Viki: Don't you presume to tell me what it's like to lose a child. I lost a daughter. She died. Charlie lost his son Jared. He died. You never lost a child--you threw him away. You dumped him, because it was too bloody inconvenient to raise him.

Echo: Which is why I am not going to walk away this time! I did it once, and I'll die before I do that to Rex again.

Dr. Buhari: I understand you don't feel like talking. May I speak with your parents for a moment? What happened?

Rex: Shane left us a note that got us pretty scared. When we finally found him, he was on the roof at his school. And he was thinking about jumping.

Dr. Buhari: I see. So is this pretty accurate, Shane? Can you tell me how you ended up on that roof?

Shane: There was a lot going on at school, and I just wanted-- just wanted to make it stop.

Dr. Buhari: Let's do a quick exam to make sure you're physically ok. Any health problems I should know about?

Gigi: Shane was diagnosed with leukemia a couple of years ago. His treatment was completely successful, thank God, and he's been cancer-free since.

Dr. Buhari: That's a lot. Anything else?

Gigi: He has asthma. He uses a rescue inhaler.

Dr. Buhari: The exam could take a few minutes. You can stay or wait outside, whichever you prefer.

Rex: I'm gonna go get some water.

Gigi: I'll stick around.

Rex: Bo. You didn't have to come.

Bo: I know.

Blair: Oh, thank you. I needed that.

Starr: Anytime.

Blair: Ok. Well, now I'm gonna go check and see if your brother's learned how to use that pencil, ok? Ha! Jack?

[Indistinct voices outside]

Jack: Come on. No way Wheezy'd try and off himself. He's too chicken.

Brad: I'm just saying we need to get our stories straight.

Blair: What are you doing out here?

Brad: Hi, Ms. Cramer. We were just--

Blair: Jack is not supposed to have visitors, ok? He's being punished. And if you had anything to do with what happened to Shane Morasco, you need to be punished, too, and be very ashamed. Now get home. You want to tell me what that was about?

Jack: I didn't ask him to come over.

Blair: Then you should've told him to leave. I want you to get upstairs to your room, and I want you to stay there.

Jack: Any more orders?

Blair: Yeah, as a matter of fact. First thing tomorrow, you're gonna apologize to Shane.

Dr. Buhari: Last question. Drugs. Do you smoke pot? Use any other illegal substances?

Shane: No.

Dr. Buhari: Glad to hear it. The basics look good. What can you tell me about why you were on that roof?

Shane: This kid at school-- Jack Manning--and his friends were all out to get me. They were making up nicknames, posting things online. They thought it was funny.

Bo: How is Shane?

Rex: He doesn't want to be here, but I thought...he needs to talk to somebody, right?

Bo: Absolutely.

Rex: He just wants this all to just go away, like it never happened. I do, too.

Bo: I know the feeling, but you can't hide from this kind of stuff. It'll come back and bite you.

Rex: Standing on that roof, I just kept thinking "How did we end up here?" How did we end up to a place where one step, one little step means the end of everything that matters? My son wouldn't be my son. He would just be memories. Bunch of...photographs, and every time I think about him, it'll be like this stab in my chest.

Bo: Just thank God that you and Gigi got there when you did.

Rex: What kind of parents are we? Our son's been going to school in a cold sweat for weeks, for months, and we don't see it.

Bo: Maybe he didn't want to let you see it.

Rex: I just think about him being by himself trying to hold it together, and I just--oh, God. I gotta get it together. I can't let Shane see me like this.

Bo: Shane is not here right now.

Rex: I gotta pull it together.

Bo: Take your time. This didn't just happen to Shane. This happened to all of you.

Rex: You're still here for me, after everything I did to David.

Bo: That's over, Balsom. That's the last we have to say about it.

Rex: Thanks.

Bo: You're a strong man, and you're gonna have to be to handle all this. Let Shane know that he can lean on you. And if there's anything that you need, then you let me know.

Viki: Rewriting history is so easy, isn't it, Echo? Reuniting with your family. That's not what brought you here. It was Charlie. Don't bother to apologize, because what you did was not ok.

Echo: Well, I'm flawed, Viki, but you know what? Charlie is, too, which is probably why we connected, which is also why maybe in the end, he chose me. We're not all perfect like you.

Deanna: Look, I know you and Starr are together, ok? I just don't want you to have the wrong idea about what happened to us.

James: Stop. It doesn't matter, Deanna. Like I said, we're done. Right now we need to think about how we're gonna get you back to Dayton. Here's an extra pillow.

Deanna: Don't worry about the sheets. I can just sack out on the couch. Unless it's already taken?

James: That's where Bobby's sleeping.

Deanna: But not his wife?

James: Don't ask, all right? It's complicated.

Deanna: So does that mean we're sharing your room?

Blair: There Jack was, just standing outside talking to his friend Brad as if nothing was wrong. So much for him learning a lesson.

Starr: Like I said, you just have to give it some time. That's what Dad would say, right?

Blair: What I wouldn't give to have your dad here right now. I know that he could get through to Jack, because they have that special connection. I can't do it, Starr. I can't--I can't do this by myself. I'm sorry.

Starr: You don't have to apologize.

Blair: I just want my son to grow up to be a decent man. Is that too much to ask?

Nora: No, Destiny, you've been a good friend to Shane. You tried to get him to accept help. So, no, there's no blaming yourself, ok? You've been a good friend, just like you've always been a good friend to Matthew.

Destiny: Matthew's been good to me, too.

Nora: Have you noticed anything different about him lately?

Destiny: He's been pretty quiet, but I know he was worried about you and his dad and all the stuff with his uncle. Why?

Nora: Oh, no reason. Just keep being a good friend to him, ok? It's always nice to have someone in your corner. How's Shane?

Bo: He's fine. He's probably back home by now.

Destiny: Really? He's gonna be ok?

Bo: Looks that way.

Destiny: Thank God. I didn't really mean to stay so long.

Nora: Oh, please. It's fine. It's quite all right. Oh. Oh. You take care of yourself and come by anytime, all right?

Destiny: Thanks. Bye. Bye.

Nora: Ok, is Shane really gonna be all right?

Bo: I hope so. He's getting help. That's what's important.

Nora: So he is gonna be all right.

Bo: Let's hope.

Nora: Now the question is, Bo... will Matthew ever be all right again?

Rex: Everything ok?

Dr. Buhari: I'm glad you brought Shane in today. It was the right thing to do. This is some information about suicide prevention with a number to a hotline. I'd also like you to call my office to set up an appointment. I think Shane could benefit from therapy. And family sessions might be a good idea as well.

Gigi: Ok.

Shane: Can I go home now?

Dr. Buhari: I want you to take this first. This has my office number and my cell number. You can call me anytime, ok? You have the guidelines for the next 24 hours. I need to know you'll follow them carefully.

Rex: We will.

Dr. Buhari: Good. I don't feel hospitalization would be productive for Shane right now. You realize your parents won't be leaving you alone anytime soon. One last thing, Mr. Balsom. Are there any firearms in your house?

Rex: No.

Dr. Buhari: Then you're free to go home.

Rex: You heard the doctor. Let's roll.

Gigi: Thank you.

Nora: Rex and Gigi found Shane on the roof?

Bo: He was on the edge.

Nora: [Gasps] Oh, my God.

Bo: Somehow they managed to talk him down. Red?

Nora: Yeah?

Bo: You ok?

Nora: Yeah, I'm just thinking about Gigi. Standing there watching her son about to hurt himself and knowing there was nothing that she could do.

Bo: Totally powerless.

Nora: The worst feeling in the world.

Bo: Well, at least they're doing something now. They've got him in the hospital.

[Nora gasps]

Bo: What? What is it?

Nora: I remember. I remember what happened the night that Eddie was murdered.

Viki: Echo... this is our last conversation. Ever. As soon as Shane is safely home, you are gonna collect whatever belongs to you here, and you're gonna get out, and you will never come back. I don't ever want to see your lying face on my property again.

James: Yeah. Sorry. My room seems to be the only option.

Deanna: That's ok. Won't be the first time we've slept in the same bed before, right?

James: Uh, no. Actually, you'll take the bed, and I'll take the floor.

[Door closes]

Blair: It's finally coming back to bite me.

Starr: What are you talking about?

Blair: My bad parenting.

Starr: Would you stop?

Blair: No, Starr. I've been completely selfish. Selfish and preoccupied, making bad choices with bad men, and Jack's behavior is my reward.

Starr: Jack is still a kid. And there is time to straighten him out. And you want to talk about mothering? You once told me that the best thing I could do for Hope is to make her feel loved. Totally, unconditionally, forever and always, no matter what. And that's what you did for me, Mom. So don't tell me what kind of mother that you are, because I already know.

Blair: Thank you so much. Thank you.

Bo: The night that Eddie was murdered?

Nora: Yes. It just came back to me. I was--I was at the motel room.

Bo: Ok, slow down.

Nora: No, no. No. I was-- remember I couldn't remember anything before? I couldn't remember what happened? I could get as far as Eddie's door, and then I got the door open, but I could never remember what I saw. Well, I do. I remember it now. I know what I saw.

Bo: Maybe you should take it easy.

Nora: No, no, it's ok. It's ok. It was Matthew.

Bo: Matthew?

Nora: Yes. I saw Matthew. He was sitting on the floor in the motel room... next to Eddie's dead body.

Bo: You saw this?

Nora: Yes. Oh, God. He must've been waiting for Clint. Oh, I can see it clear as day. Oh, my God. The look on his face. Oh, God, Bo. He looked so little and so lost. He never even saw me standing in the doorway.

Bo: But I thought Matthew said that the door was locked when Clint got there.

Nora: Yeah, he did, didn't he?

Bo: And you saw him?

Nora: Oh, yes. Definitely. Definitely. He must've locked the door later. He must've locked the door after I left. Oh, my God, Bo. I left!

Bo: Honey, listen. It's ok.

Nora: No! It's not ok. For God's sake, it's not ok. My son was in pain, and I left him! I ran away. Oh, my God. What kind of a mother does that? What kind of a mother abandons her own child when he needs her the most?

Echo: Is Shane all right?

Rex: No. He's not ok, Echo.

Echo: But he will be?

Rex: I think this might take a while.

Echo: Whatever it is, we're all gonna help him get better... as a family. I love you.

Rex: Thank you for staying.

Echo: Call me.

Rex: Shane in bed?

Gigi: He's brushing his teeth.

Rex: He's in the bathroom? Did you...

Gigi: I scoped out the medicine cabinet. Razors, scissors, rubbing alcohol, aspirin. Are we supposed to lock it up?

Rex: I don't know.

Gigi: I guess we could put it in the trunk of the car. I can't believe this. Hiding things from my own son. When did I stop seeing him, Rex? When did I stop... feeling his pain?

Rex: We're gonna get through this. All right? I promise. We're gonna get through this together.

Bo: Honey... listen to me. You are a great mother.

Nora: I think Matthew would disagree with you right about now.

Bo: Are you kidding? He's the proof. He's a great kid.

Nora: Bo, he killed a man.

Bo: But that's not your fault. It's Clint. He drove him to it.

Nora: Yes, you're right. But that's who he went to for help while I left him in a motel room.

Bo: It's not your fault. Look, you were in a car accident. You had a head injury. You were confused.

Nora: Confused.

Bo: And you were traumatized by everything that Eddie Ford did to you in that same room.

Nora: No, Bo, that's not an excuse. It's no excuse.

Bo: You don't need an excuse. This is not the time for blame.

Nora: Are you kidding? If there was ever a time for blame...

Bo: Do you think that it's Rex and Gigi's fault that Shane ended up on that roof? Do you blame them for that?

Nora: No, of course not.

Bo: Good. Because that's not what Shane needs right now. And that's not what Matthew needs right now.

Nora: I wish I knew what Matthew needed.

Bo: Matthew needs what we always give him--love. And that's what Rex and Gigi have to give Shane, and that's what we have to give Matthew, and that's the only thing that's gonna get us all through this.
